Background: Tuberculosis (TB) is a major cause of death worldwide, and Chinese TB burden ranked the second globally. Chinese primary healthcare (PHC) sectors implement the TB Control Program (TCP) to improve active case finding, referral, treatment adherence, and health education. This study aimed to identify barriers and enablers of TCP implementation in high TB burden regions of West China. Methods: We conducted a representative study using mixed-methods in 28 counties or districts in Chongqing Municipality and Guizhou Province of West China from October 2021 to May 2022. Questionnaire surveys and semi-structured in-depth interviews were conducted with 2720 TB healthcare workers (HCWs) and 20 interviewees in PHC sectors. Descriptive statistical analysis was used to investigate TB HCWs' characteristics, and path analysis model was utilized to analyze the impact of associated factors on TCP implementation. Thematic framework analysis was developed with the guide of the adapted Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research (CFIR) on factors of TCP implementation. Results: This study found that 84.6% and 94.1% of community and village HCWs had low professional titles. Based on the results of multiple regression analysis and correlation analysis, lower TB core knowledge scores (-0.09) were identified as barriers for TCP implementation in community PHC sectors, and low working satisfaction (-0.17) and low working willingness (-0.10) are barriers for TPC implementation in village PHC sectors. The results of in-depth interviews reported barriers in all domains and enablers in four domains of CFIR. There were identified 19 CFIR constructs associated with TCP implementation, including 22 barriers such as HCWs' heavy workload, and 12 enablers such as HCWs' passion towards TCP planning. Conclusions: With the guide of the CFIR framework, complex factors (barriers and enablers) of TCP implementation in PHC sectors of West China were explored, which provided important evidences to promote TB program in high TB burden regions. Objective: Recombinant humanized type III collagen (rhCol III) is a highly adhesive biomaterial composed of 16 adhesion‐related tandem repeats refined from human type III collagen. Here, we aimed to investigate the effect of rhCol III on oral ulcers and reveal the underlying mechanism. Methods: Acid‐induced oral ulcers were induced on the murine tongue, and rhCol III or saline drops were administered. The effect of rhCol III on oral ulcers was assessed using gross and histological analyses. The effects on the proliferation, migration, and adhesion of human oral keratinocytes were investigated in vitro. The underlying mechanism was explored using RNA sequencing. Results: Administration of rhCol III accelerated the lesion closure of oral ulcers, reduced the release of inflammatory factors, and alleviated pain. rhCol III promoted the proliferation, migration, and adhesion of human oral keratinocytes in vitro. Mechanistically, the enrichment of genes associated with the Notch signaling pathway was upregulated after rhCol III treatment. Delirium, a form of acute cerebral dysfunction, is a common complication of postoperative cardiac surgery in children. It is strongly associated with adverse outcomes, including prolonged hospitalization, increased mortality, and cognitive dysfunction. This study aimed to identify risk factors and incidence of delirium after cardiac surgery in children to facilitate early identification of delirium risk and provide a reference for the implementation of effective prevention and management. A systematic literature search was conducted in PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, Cochrane Library, Scopus, CNKI, Sinomed, and Wanfang for studies published in English or Chinese from the inception of each database to November 2023. The PRISMA guidelines were followed in all phases of this systematic review. The Risk of Bias Assessment for Nonrandomized Studies tool was used to assess methodological quality. A total of twelve studies were included in the analysis, with four studies classified as overall low risk of bias, seven studies as moderate risk of bias, and one study as high risk of bias. The studies reported 39 possible predictors of delirium, categorized into four broad groups: intrinsic and parent-related factors, disease-related factors, surgery and treatment-related factors, and clinical scores and laboratory parameters. By conducting qualitative synthesis and quantitative meta-analysis, we identified two definite factors, four possible factors, and 32 unclear factors related to delirium. Definite risk factors included age and mechanical ventilation duration. Possible factors included developmental delay, cyanotic heart disease, cardiopulmonary bypass time, and pain score. With only a few high-quality studies currently available, well-designed and more extensive prospective studies are still needed to investigate the risk factors affecting delirium and explore delirium prevention strategies in high-risk children. Background: China has the third-largest burden of tuberculosis (TB) cases in the world with great challenges towards ending TB. Primary health care (PHC) sectors play a critical role in TB prevention and control in communities under the Chinese integrated TB control model. However, there is a lack of comprehensive review of research evidence on TB control in PHC sectors under the integrated TB control model in China. Methods: This review was conducted following the PRISMA guidelines. Articles published from 2012 to January 2022 were searched from four international and three Chinese databases. Studies conducted inside mainland China and relevant with TB control service in PHC sectors under the integrated model were included. After study selection, data extraction, and quality assessment, the meta-analysis was performed with RevMan using a random-effect model.When I2 was more than 50%, subgroup analysis was performed to explore possible reasons for heterogeneity. We also conducted a post hoc sensitivity analysis for outcomes after meta-analysis by exclusion of studies with a high risk of bias or classified as low quality. Results: Forty-three studies from 16 provinces/municipalities in China were included in this review, and most studies included were of medium quality. PHC sectors in East China delivered TB control service better overall than that in West China, especially in tracing of patients and TB case management (TCM). In meta-analyses, both the pooled arrival rate of tracing and pooled TCM rate in East China were higher than those in West China. TB patients had a low degree of willingness to receive TCM provided by healthcare workers in PHC sectors nationwide, especially among migrant TB patients. There were 9 studies reporting factors related to TB control service in PHC sectors, 6 (2 in East and 4 in West China) of which indentified several characteristics of patients as associated factors. The context of PHC sectors was demonstrated to influence delivery of TB control service in PHC sectors in 5 studies (3 in East, 1 in Middle and 1 in West China). Most studies on strategies to promoting TB control services in PHC sectors were conducted in East China and some of these studies identified several online and offline interventions and strategies improving patients' treatment compliance [pooled OR (95% CI): 7.81 (3.08, 19.19] and awareness of TB [pooled OR (95% CI): 6.86 (2.16, 21.72)]. Conclusion: It is of urgent need to improve TB control in PHC sector in China, particularly in West China. Formative and implementation research with rigorous design are necessary to develop comprehensive, context-specific, and patient-centered TB control strategies to promote ending TB in China. This paper develops a multivariate spatial model for the joint analysis of daytime and nighttime crash frequencies by injury severity in traffic analysis zones (TAZs). The model specification allows for spatial correlation across TAZs, heterogeneous effects specific to crash time and severity, and correlations across response types under a Bayesian multivariate conditional autoregressive framework. One hundred and thirty one TAZs in Hong Kong, China, with traffic crash, traffic flow, roadway network, and land use data for a one-year period are selected to calibrate the advocated model. Considerable spatial and heterogeneous effects are found for each type crash frequency. Significant correlations exist in the heterogeneous effects for various severity levels and those for daytime and nighttime. The Bayesian estimates of the regression coefficients reveal that there are significant inconsistencies in the set of factors contributing to zonal daytime and nighttime crashes at various severity levels. Since the Anthropocene, biodiversity loss owing to human activity and climate change has worsened. Quercus gilva is an evergreen oak species native to China, Japan, and South Korea and is threatened by a long history of human impact. The purpose of this study was to (1) reassess the threatened category of Q. gilva based on a detailed survey, and (2) identify the genetic structure and diversity of Q. gilva based on genomic data. First, we conducted a detailed survey of the populations in China. Second, we collated all the literature and information. Finally, genome-wide genetic variation was analyzed based on 65 individuals from 22 populations. We found that Q. gilva has suffered rapid population decline, and at present, most populations are very small. The evolutionary path of Q. gilva was from the southwest to east of China and then to Japan and South Korea. Quercus gilva showed no distinct genetic structure and had a relatively low genetic diversity. Among the 22 populations, most populations in southwestern China, South Korea, and Japan had high genetic diversity. The populations in Jingning (Zhejiang province; ZJN), Wuyuan (Jinaxi province; JWY), and Zherong (Fujian province; FZR) suffered a strong bottleneck. In conclusion, Q. gilva is an endangered species native to East Asia. Because of the very low genetic diversity of Q. gilva and most populations are small, we need to (1) strengthen the protection of this species, (2) conduct conservation actions with in-situ reinforcement populations, and (3) select populations with high genetic diversity as provenances for afforestation efforts. The incidence of cancer is increasing today, particularly lung and chest cancer. Employing novel methods to detect cancer in its earliest stages and discover painless, noninvasive treatments are urgently needed. The goal of the proposed study is to investigate the value of automated breast volume scanning (ABUS) in conjunction with contrast-enhanced ultrasonography (CEUS) in properly diagnosing breast cancer in its early stages and the effectiveness of neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) in treating the disease. For the research study, information on 98 patients who had NAC and surgery in the breast surgery department of the Shaanxi Provincial Cancer Hospital has been gathered. All patients have received four cycles of NAC and underwent conventional ultrasound (HUSS), CEUS, ABUS, and pathological examination. At the same time, receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis, single factor, multiple linear regression, and other methods have also been used to analyze the diagnostic efficacy of breast cancer and NAC efficacy evaluation results. The study of this paper is totally based on the data collected from Shaanxi Provincial Cancer Hospital. The statistical and computational analyses are performed on the data collected for drawing inferences. When the findings are compared to the results of the pathological examination, HUSS has demonstrated a significant distinction between benign and malignant diagnoses with a statistical value of P < 0.05.ABUS combined with CEUS has shown no considerable differences in correlation study. Except for negative likelihood ratio, the diagnostic performance indexes of CEUS+ ABUS are substantially higher than HHUS with P < 0.05. ROC curve analysis is also performed which shows that CEUS and ABUS combination has higher precision in the analysis of breast cancer. Background: Long-term antiviral treatments are associated with a significantly lower hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) incidence in chronic hepatitis B (CHB) patients by reducing HBV DNA concentrations. However, it is still controversial whether antiviral strategies affect HCC development in antiviral treatment-naïve CHB patients. This study aimed to estimate the incidence of HCC in antiviral treatment-naïve CHB patients who were treated with Entecavir (ETV) and Tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate (TDF) and compare the efficacy of two treatment regimens in HCC reduction.Methods: The PubMed, Embase, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, and Wanfang databases were systematically searched until June 24, 2021. The pooled incidence and 95% confidence interval of HCC were calculated by the Freeman-Tukey double arcsine transformation method. The efficacies of ETV and TDF treatments in HCC reduction were compared through a network meta-analysis.Results: A total of 27 studies were identified as eligible for this systematic review. The incidence densities in the ETV and TDF treatment groups were 2.78 (95% CI: 2.21-3.40) and 2.59 (95% CI: 1.51-3.96) per 100 persons-year among patients with preexisting cirrhosis and 0.49 (95% CI: 0.32-0.68) and 0.30 (95% CI: 0.06-0.70) per 100 persons-year among patients without preexisting cirrhosis. As the proportion of CHB patients with preexisting cirrhosis increased, the incidence density of HCC also increased gradually. Compared with other Nucleos(t)ide analogs (NAs) treatments, ETV and TDF treatments significantly lowered the risk of HCC, with hazard ratios (HRs) of 0.60 (95% CI: 0.40-0.90) and 0.56 (95% CI: 0.35-0.89), respectively. However, there was no difference in the incidence density of HCC between ETV and TDF treatments (HR = 0.92, 95% CI: 0.71-1.20) regardless of preexisting cirrhosis.Conclusion: ETV and TDF treatments were associated with significantly lower risks of HCC than other NAs treatments. However, no difference was observed between ETV and TDF treatments in the risk of HCC development regardless of preexisting cirrhosis among treatment-naïve CHB patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Persistent luminescence is an optical phenomenon where solid phosphors can store photoenergy in defects and release the energy by luminescence after stopping excitation. Due to the intriguing optical characteristics, the defect luminescence based persistent phosphors have attracted enormous attention in recent decades, especially in biomedical fields such as biosensing and bioimaging. Persistent luminescence nanoparticles (PLNPs) can effectively avoid the autofluorescence interference from complex samples or tissues, leading to significantly improved sensitivity in biological analysis. In this review, we summarized the methods to control the optical performance of PLNPs from the perspectives of controlled synthesis and defect regulation, and emphasized the close relationship between their optical performance and applications. We further provided a summary about a series of PLNPs nanoprobes designed by our group for biosensing and bioimaging. Our efforts, summarized in this review, will not only open a window for manipulating luminescence in PLNPs, but also further promote the application of PLNPs in biomedicine. Objective: To determine the cost effectiveness of molecular monitoring in patients with chronic myeloid leukemia in the chronic phase (CML-CP) compared to no molecular monitoring from a Chinese payer perspective. Methods: Analyses were conducted using a semi-Markov model with a 50-year time horizon. Population data from multicenter registry-based studies of Chinese patients with CML-CP informed the model. Transition probabilities were based on time-to-event data from the literature. Utility values were obtained from published studies and were assumed to be the same for patients with and without molecular monitoring. Costs were based on values commonly used in the Chinese healthcare system, including drug acquisition, drug administration, follow-up, treatment for disease progression, molecular monitoring, and terminal care costs, and were in the local currency (2020 Chinese Yuan RMB [¥]). Outcomes were total life-years (LYs) and quality-adjusted life years (QALYs), lifetime costs, and incremental cost-effectiveness ratio. Results: Molecular monitoring was dominant to no molecular monitoring, with increased LYs (1.52) and QALYs (1.90) and costs savings (¥93,840) over a lifetime compared to no monitoring in discounted analyses. The opportunity of patients that receive molecular monitoring to discontinue treatment during treatment-free remission, an opportunity not afforded to those without molecular monitoring, was the principle driver of this result. Results were similar across multiple clinical scenarios. Particularly, molecular monitoring remained dominant even if the proportion of patients achieving deep molecular response (DMR) was reduced by 10%-30%, or the proportion of patients maintaining DMR for 1 year was reduced by 10%-30% or increased by 10%. Cost savings in these scenarios ranged from ¥62,230 to ¥103,964. Conclusions: Overall, this analysis demonstrates that adherence to guideline recommendations of regular molecular monitoring of patients with CML-CP treated with TKIs provides significant clinical benefit that leads to substantial cost savings compared to no molecular monitoring from the perspective of a Chinese payer. In a time where healthcare systems have limited resources to allocate to optimal patient care, investment in molecular monitoring is an ideal choice for improving patient benefits at a reduced cost. A full‐scale wastewater treatment plant in China experienced unintentional anammox bacterial enrichment on biofilm carriers placed in the anaerobic and anoxic zones of an anaerobic/anoxic/oxic process under ambient temperatures and without bioaugmentation. Here, we show that microaerophilic conditions resulting from air scouring needed for biofilm carrier suspension in the anaerobic/anoxic zones can support a robust nitritation/anammox process. Results from an in situ on/off air scouring test showed that air scouring strongly induced both ammonia and total inorganic nitrogen removal in the anaerobic/anoxic zones. Ammonium concentration in the anaerobic and anoxic tanks remained constant or even slightly increased when air scouring was off, indicating that air scouring made a noticeable difference in nitrogen profiles in the anaerobic/anoxic zones. Various batch tests further indicated that partial denitrification is not likely to generate nitrite for anammox bacteria. Robust nitritation, and anammox on the carriers, can occur at low dissolved oxygen conditions, as measured in the full‐scale facility. The observations show that mainstream deammonification without sidestream bioaugmentation at moderate temperature is feasible and further optimization by a more dedicated design can result in improved nitrogen removal in cases when chemical oxygen demand is limited in mainstream wastewater treatment. Vehicle to vulnerable road user (VRU) crashes occupy a large proportion of traffic crashes in China, and crash injury severity analysis can support traffic managers to understand the implicit rules behind the crashes. Therefore, 554 VRUs-involved crashes are collected from January, 2017, to February, 2021, in a city in northern China, including 322 vehicle-pedestrian crashes and 232 vehicle-bicycle crashes. First, a descriptive statistical analysis is conducted to investigate the characteristics of VRUs-involved crashes. Second, the extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost) model is introduced to identify the importance of risk factors (i.e., time of day, day of week, rushing hour, crash position, weather, and crash involvements) of VRUs-involved crashes. The statistical analysis demonstrates that the risk factors are closely related to VRUs-involved crash injury severity. Moreover, the results of XGBoost reveal that time of day has the greatest impact on VRUs-involved crashes, and crash position shows the minimum importance among these risk factors. Spontaneous anammox bacteria enrichment at mainstream conditions was reported in a full‐scale Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) in a temperate zone of China. The mainstream anammox was observed after WWTP process retrofit, which constructed a hybrid sludge retention time (SRT) system by providing moving carriers in the anaerobic/anoxic tank and was initially designed to enhance the denitrification process in a conventional anaerobic/anoxic/oxic process. The hybrid SRT system achieved 86.0 ± 4.6% total nitrogen (TN) removal via combined mainstream anammox and conventional denitrification. Autotrophic denitrification via mainstream anammox was confirmed by various shreds of evidence including high‐throughput sequencing, specific anammox activity test, and 15N isotopic tracing. Long‐term anammox bacteria existence in the biofilm of the carrier in anoxic zones was detected in a much higher relative abundance compared with other spots. The contribution of anammox activity to TN removal was estimated at around 20%–30%. The reasons leading to spontaneous anammox enrichment were mainly attributed to the carriers for slow‐growing bacteria growth and dissolved oxygen gradient in the anoxic tank (caused by intermittent aeration) for nitrite production. The insights of this full‐scale case study provide important perspectives for future mainstream anammox application, and also the design of an energy‐neutral WWTP process. Two new species of Spiradiclis (Rubiaceae), Spiradiclis repens L. Wu & Yan Liu and S. reticulata L. Wu, Q Yuan & Jian‐Ling Li are described and illustrated here. Spiradiclis repens is morphologically similar to S. karstana in having a creeping habit, puberulent stems, elliptic to oblong leaves and slenderly salverform corolla, but differ by having less numerous flowers on linear stipules, terminal cymose inflorescences, peduncles 4.0–12.0 mm long, and corolla lilac or pale pink and glabrous inside. Spiradiclis reticulata is close to S. emeiensis and S. malipoensis in that their capsules are ellipsoid and slightly compressed from both sides, but the former can be distinguished from the latter two by having 2‐lobed stipules, monostylous flowers and slenderly cylindrical corollas. Abstract Managing the complex demands on available energy, food and water is a fundamental challenge for a world with increasingly tenuous resource pools. The North China Plain's groundwater crisis has become increasingly serious due to decades-long over-exploitation for irrigation to pursue high grain yield. This combined challenge motivated investigation of ways to mitigate the groundwater table decline while fostering the use of renewable bioenergy resources. To provide insights about tradeoffs among water, food and energy, we performed a six-year experiment from 2010 to 2015 in the North China Plain where groundwater use, biomass and biofuel production and water use efficiency were compared for four cropping systems. They are winter wheat-summer maize (WM, grains, 1-year cycle), ryegrass–sweet sorghum (RS, forage plus bioenergy crops, 1-year cycle), winter wheat–summer maize→ ryegrass–sweet sorghum (WMRS, forage, bioenergy plus grain crops, 2-year cycle), and perennial switchgrass (SG, bioenergy crop). Actual evapotranspiration (ET a) and recharge to groundwater were calculated and validated using observed soil moisture contents. Results showed ET a of the cropping systems were statistically similar ranging from 694 to 730 mm yr−1 with the exception of switchgrass which was significantly less at 504 mm yr-1. The water table was projected to decline by about 1.3 m yr-1 for all three multi-crop rotations and 0.4 m yr-1 for switchgrass. In terms of bioethanol production per unit land and per unit ET a , the ryegrass-sweet sorghum (RS) rotation performed best with 25.0 m3 ha-1 and 5.7 L m-3 outperforming the yearly winter wheat–summer maize (WM) rotation (11.7 m3 ha-1 and 3.3 L m-3) and switchgrass (11.4 m3 ha-1 and 2.6 L m-3). The multiple year rotation of winter wheat–summer maize→ ryegrass–sweet sorghum (WMRS) yielded 16.9 m3 bioethanol per hectare and 4.3 L m-3 bioethanol per m3 ET a. When optimizing bioethanol against net groundwater depletion, RS and switchgrass outperformed the two grain-based rotations with 15.5 L and 14.4 L of bioethanol per m3 of depleted groundwater, ahead of WMRS at 10.9 L m-3 and WM at 9.1 L m-3. Immunosuppressive agents have been recognized as a factor affecting bone metabolism. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the influence of FK-506 administration on the healing of bone around titanium implants. Thirty-two male mice were randomly allocated to two groups: the FK-506 group ( n = 16 mice), which received subcutaneous administration of FK-506 (1 mg kg−1 d−1); and the control group ( n = 16 mice), which received saline solution by the same route of administration. After 2 wk, one titanium implant with sandblasted/acid-etched surface was placed in the femur. The therapy continued until the mice were killed 2 and 4 wk after surgery. The femurs with implants were evaluated by biomechanical testing and histologic analysis. The bone-implant contact ( BIC) and bone volume ( BV/ TV) within a 100- μm-wide circumferential zone lateral to the implant surface were histomorphometrically analyzed. Compared with the control group, the FK-506 group showed significantly lower BIC and BV/ TV at both 2 and 4 wk. Biomechanical tests showed that FK-506 significantly impaired the strength of bone-implant integration at both 2 and 4 wk postoperatively. Abstract: With the rapid motorization in China, parking has become increasingly difficult and costly for automobile users. However, the effects of parking on the society go far beyond vehicle owners' costs. To inform decision makers in China and cities in similar motorizing societies, this study describes the market and policy trends of automobile parking in Chinese cities. Available data show that the gap between supply and demand in parking has enlarged, while most city governments have little experience and are institutionally unprepared for the proper planning, regulation, and management of parking. International experience and the Chinese problems call for a reform in urban parking management in order to promote sustainable urban transportation and maximize social welfare. The Integrated Biosphere Simulator (IBIS)-a Dynamic Global Vegetation Model-was validated by simulating the potential natural vegetation map of China using data on monthly mean climate from 1961 to 1990, soil texture, and topography. Although the vegetation map simulated by IBIS was able to describe the sketch of vegetation patterns in China, the distributions of several plant functional types (PFTs) and vegetation types were still simulated incorrectly, especially in eastern temperate areas, southern subtropics, the southern Sichuan basin, and the Hengduan mountains area. By adjusting some of the climatic constraints and physiological parameters of PFTs defined in IBIS, the simulated distributions of PFTs became reasonable, and the simulated vegetation map fitted the natural vegetation map better. The kappa statistic between the simulated and the natural vegetation maps was 0.76, an increase of 16.9% from the previous parameter adjustment of 0.65. Correspondingly, the degree of agreement between these two maps rose from 'good' to 'very good'. After the parameter adjustments, IBIS became more suitable for the large-scale simulation of Chinese natural vegetation distributions and could provide a powerful support to reveal the dynamic responses of terrestrial ecosystems to climate change in China. In a study of 315 HBV specimens obtained from southern China, 240 (76.9%) were assigned to genotype B, 72 (22.9%) were genotype C, two (0.6%) were genotype A and one (0.3%) was genotype D. Statistical analysis revealed that variables such as age, gender, HBV vaccination rate, hepatitis anamnesis rate, anti-HBs and HBeAg prevalence and virus load were insignificant between genotype B ( n = 240) and genotype C cases ( n = 72) ( P > 0.05). However, the frequency of amino acid (aa) substitutions in the major hydrophilic region (MHR; aa 99-169) and the putative HLA class I-restricted cytotoxic T lymphocyte (CTL) epitope region of the S gene, as well as the overlapping polymerase/RT region (aa 32-212), were significantly higher in genotype C group than genotype B ( P < 0.001). Abstract: Food consumption appropriates not only arable land but grassland and other various agricultural land resources. It is of great use to analyse time series of ecological appropriation for food consumption of Chinese rural residents from the perspective of total agricultural land resources and then overall evaluation of resource basis to ensure food security with structure upgrading of food consumption. Firstly the appropriated land categories and domestic conversion factors of food consumption items were discussed. Accordingly, the ecological footprint (EF) model with refined factors was applied to macro-estimate the ecological pressure of food consumption and the changes of Chinese rural residents in the latest 30 years. The study indicated that ecological appropriation increased from 1.465 national standard acre (nsa) in 1980 to 1.782 nsa in 2006 with the changes of Chinese food consumption structure of rural residents, and especially the direct appropriated arable land has declined dramatically since 2000. The consumption category of grain was the largest category per capita in spite of decreasing percentage, so staple foods like grain products, vegetables were always laid the first place even though the consumption pattern has changed greatly. Food EF had a strong correlation with expenditure on food over the period; furthermore, it can be evidently proved by an elasticity of per capita meat and aquatic products EF 0.43. The overall ecological pressure of food EF of Chinese rural residents has increased unsteadily, as the grain-consuming animal products and aquatic product contributed to this. The comparison of dynamic analysis of food EF calculated by fixed yields and variable yields indicated that higher productivity of arable land has greatly alleviated the pressure on resources demanded by the process of structure upgrading of the food consumption of rural residents in China. Due to its numerous environmental extremes, the Tibetan Plateau-the world's highest plateau-is one of the most challenging areas of modern human settlement. Archaeological evidence dates the earliest settlement on the plateau to the Late Paleolithic, while previous genetic studies have traced the colonization event(s) to no earlier than the Neolithic. To explore whether the genetic continuity on the plateau has an exclusively Neolithic time depth, we studied mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) genome variation within 6 regional Tibetan populations sampled from Tibet and neighboring areas. Our results confirm that the vast majority of Tibetan matrilineal components can trace their ancestry to Epipaleolithic and Neolithic immigrants from northern China during the midHolocene. Significantly, we also identified an infrequent novel haplogroup, M16, that branched off directly from the Eurasian M founder type. Its nearly exclusive distribution in Tibetan populations and ancient age (>21 kya) suggest that M16 may represent the genetic relics of the Late Paleolithic inhabitants on the plateau. This partial genetic continuity between the Paleolithic inhabitants and the contemporary Tibetan populations bridges the results and inferences from archaeology, history, and genetics. BACKGROUND: Drug resistance profiles of human immunodeficiency virus-1 (HIV-1) in treatment-naïve infections have been reported in developed countries. However, little is known in developing countries, including China, especially in treatment-naïve volunteer blood donors. STUDY DESIGN AND METHODS: Fifty-two HIV-1–positive samples of blood donors were collected from 2005 to 2006 in Yunnan, China. Recent and long-term infections were distinguished by the HIV-1 subtypes B, E, and D immunoglobulin G-capture enzyme immunoassay assay. The nucleotide sequences of pol genes were amplified and sequenced. Phylogenetic tree and drug resistance analyses were performed. RESULTS: Of 49 samples successfully analyzed, circulating strains were circulating recombinant form (CRF)08_BC (51.0%), CRF07_BC (24.5%), CRF01_AE (20.4%), and B (4.1%). No protease inhibitors (PI) major drug resistance mutation (DRM) was detected. Six samples (12.2%) displayed seven minor PI DRMs. Nine samples (18.4%) displayed 10 nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor DRMs, and DRMs to nonnucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors were present in one sample (2.0%). There was only one sample of the 49 (2.0%) in which the DRMs were of sufficient magnitude to result in a clinical change to drug susceptibility, but even in this sample, the clinical effect of these DRMs was predicted to be low. Significant differences were not observed between the long-term and recent infected population. Differences in DRMs were not observed between peripheral blood mononuclear cells and plasma within an individual. CONCLUSIONS: CRF_BC was the dominant subtype circulating in HIV-1–infected donors in Yunnan. Prevalence of genotypic drug resistances among donors in Yunnan was low in this study. Total dissolved gas (TDG) supersaturation caused by dam operations can cause fish gas bubble disease (GBD) and even fish kill. Few studies have examined the effects on pelagic species. Here, we examined the tolerance and avoidance characteristics of silver carp (Hypophthalmichthys molitrix), a pelagic fish widely distributed in the Yangtze River basin in China, under stress caused by TDG supersaturation. Silver carp had an average mortality rate of 7.5% ± 1.8%, 92.5% ± 1.8%, and 97.5% ± 1.8% under 130%, 140% and 150% TDG supersaturation for 72 h of exposure, respectively. The average median lethal time (LT 50) of silver carp was 18.1 h and 8.0 h under 140% and 150% TDG supersaturation, respectively. Bubbles and congestion appeared in the fins, gills and skin of silver carp. Silver carp can detect and avoid high TDG supersaturation. Significant avoidance behaviors were displayed by silver carp and the final avoidance rate was over 80% under 130% or above TDG conditions. The decline of bus ridership is increasingly prevalent in cities in both developed and emerging economies around the world. While researchers have made many efforts to explain why choice riders switch to other transportation modes in single-city cases, why cities vary in the performance of maintaining bus ridership is still largely unknown. This study examines the changes in bus ridership among 175 medium and small-sized cities without urban rail transit from 2010 to 2019 in China and links a few determining factors to such changes by deploying fixed effects panel models and piecewise regression models. Both heterogeneity and nonlinear relationships in the dynamics of bus ridership changes are confirmed. The results demonstrate that cities at different development stages perform diversely in maintaining bus ridership, due to the variations in travel demand and travel choice preferences in those contexts. Increased private car ownership and widening income inequity both contribute to bus ridership decline while an expansion of bus fleet sizes is associated with more bus patronage. These relationships are all displayed as nonlinear formats; the effects can diminish when influencing factors reach a certain level during the growth of cities. The research outcomes may inform policymakers that cities at different development stages need to adopt context-based strategies instead of simply copying from elsewhere. • The impact of influencing factors on injury severity of side crashes at intersections and role of striking and struck vehicles are investigated. • Bayesian bivariate probit model is proposed to accommodate the correlation between the injury severity levels of striking and struck vehicles, and Bayesian approach via Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) is employed to estimate the model. • The Bayesian bivariate probit model can effectively address the correlation and provide better model fit than Bayesian univariate probit model. • The findings can help designers and management departments improve the safety at intersections. This paper aims to identify the factors associated with injury severity of side crashes at intersections and to provide suggestions for developing countermeasures to mitigate the levels of injuries. In order to investigate the role of striking and struck vehicles in side crashes simultaneously, bivariate probit model was proposed and Bayesian approach was employed to evaluate the model, compared to the corresponding univariate probit model. Crash data from Beijing, China for the period 2009–2012 were used to carry out the statistical analysis. Based on the investigation with vehicles and data analysis on events, 130 intersection side crash cases were selected to form a specific dataset. Then, the influence of human, vehicles, roadway and environmental variables on crash severity was examined by means of bivariate probit regression within Bayesian framework. The effects of the factors on striking vehicle drivers and struck vehicle drivers were considered separately and simultaneously to find more targeted conclusions. The statistical analysis revealed vehicle type, lane number, no non-motorized lane and speeding have the corresponding influence on the injury severity of striking vehicles, while time of day and vehicle type of struck vehicles increased the likelihood of being injured. From the results it can be concluded that there indeed exists correlation between striking and struck vehicles in side crashes, although the correlation is not so strong. Importantly, Bayesian bivariate probit model can address the role of striking and struck vehicles in side crashes simultaneously and can accommodate the correlation clearly, which extends the range of univariate probit analysis. Simple Summary: Total dissolved gas (TDG) supersaturation severely threatens the survival of fish downstream of hydraulic structures in the Yangtze River due to flood discharge. However, existing findings mostly demonstrate the effect of TDG on the tolerance of benthic fish in China. Few studies have attached great importance to investigating the impact of TDG supersaturation on pelagic fish. Furthermore, varied flow of flood can lead to varied TDG levels in the spill season. Fish resided in the downstream of high dams may experience a period of chronic exposure at a low TDG level before the arrival of flood peak. However, rare achievement has reported that the survival situation of fish exposed to TDG supersaturated water with a high level after receiving chronic exposure. This study investigates the tolerance of bighead carp (Hypophthalmichthys nobilis) (pelagic fish) to TDG supersaturation and determine the effect of a high level of TDG supersaturation on its survival after chronic TDG exposure. The results showed that TDG led to apparent abnormal behaviours and gas bubble disease signs in bighead carp. The tolerance of bighead carp declined with increasing TDG levels. Compared with the large juvenile bighead carp, the small juvenile bighead carp are more sensitive to TDG. Furthermore, the results indicated that bighead carp subjected to acute exposure after long term chronic exposure are more vulnerable to TDG. The data from this study may provide valuable information related to protecting aquatic organism diversity and establishing water quality standards related to TDG supersaturation. To assess the effect of TDG on the survival of different sizes of pelagic fish, bighead carp (Hypophthalmichthys nobilis) were subjected to TDG supersaturated water at levels of 125, 130, 135, and 140%. The results showed that apparent abnormal behaviours and symptoms of gas bubble disease (GBD) were observed in bighead carp. The survival probability of large and small juvenile bighead carp declined with increasing TDG levels. The median survival time (ST50) values of large juvenile bighead carp were 74.97 and 31.90 h at 130% and 140% TDG, respectively. While the ST50 of small fish were 22.40 and 6.72 h at the same TDG levels. In comparison to the large juvenile bighead carp, the small juvenile bighead carp showed weaker tolerance to TDG supersaturated water. Furthermore, acute lethality experiments after chronic exposure to TDG were initiated to further investigate the effect of TDG on bighead carp. The juveniles were first subjected to 115% TDG supersaturated water for 96 h. After chronic exposure, live fish were immediately transferred to TDG supersaturated water at levels of 125, 130, 135, and 140%. The results demonstrated that no fish died under chronic exposure and few fish exhibited slight GBD symptoms. The ST50 values for bighead carp subjected to acute exposure after chronic exposure were 61.23 and 23.50 h at 130 and 140%, respectively. Despite many prior studies about the determinants of city-level private car ownership in China, limited studies investigate the effects of vehicle regulation policies and relative price (the ratio of the average car price to GDP per capita) on city-level private car ownership simultaneously. Thus, panel data of 212 cities in China from 2006 to 2015 were collected to explore these effects. The potential explanatory variables include relative price, vehicle regulation policies, socio-economic factors, urban characteristics of the city, and transportation-related factors. The pooled model, fixed-effects model, and random effects model are constructed to analyze the panel data. With the fixed effect on the temporal trend, the fixed-effects model turns out to be the best. Variables including relative price, license plate lottery, vehicle use restriction based on the last digit of the license plate, the average salary of employed workers, and the number of taxis per 10,000 population are all found significant. Supportive policies for alternative fuel cars do not significantly affect private car ownership. One percent increase in the relative price is associated with a 0.08% decrease in private car ownership. The license plate lottery and vehicle use restriction policies would reduce private car ownership by 18.94% and 7.7%, respectively. Different modes of hydropower flood discharges (regular vs. intermittent) from the Dagangshan hydropower station in China were studied in July and September 2017 to study the impact of TDG supersaturation on two native fish species in the downstream Dadu River. The average TDG supersaturation value was 114.3% in July under the regular discharge mode. In September, the supersaturation of TDG fluctuated in response to the intermittent discharge mode with an average TDG of 119.3%. Apparent gas bubble trauma was found on young-of-the-year (YOY) Prenant's schizothoracin and elongate loach in cages at different water depths during the flood discharge period. The mortality rate of YOY Prenant's schizothoracin and elongate loach in cages with water depths of 0–1 m were 16.25% and 2.5%, respectively, in July. The fluctuating TDG levels with higher peaks in September caused higher fish mortality rates. The final mortality rates of YOY Prenant's schizothoracin and elongate loach in cages with water depths of 0–1 m were 75% and 33.75%, respectively. Fish in the cages at a 0–3 m water depth survived better than those in the cages at a 0–1 m water depth. The critical swimming speeds (U crit) of YOY Prenant's schizothoracin and elongate loach without exposure to TDG supersaturation were 11.64 and 16.76 BL s−1, respectively. The COVID-19 has created significant impacts on the economy and individual life around the world. Various countries and cities have adopted corresponding control measures to reduce transport activities and maintain social distance to combat the spread of COVID-19. In the circumstances, residents only maintained essential travel to ensure a normal and fundamental life. In order to explore the impacts of the epidemic and control measures on individually essential travel, we have collected 513 questionnaires between February and March 2020 in China to investigate the various characteristics of essential travel. Using a multivariate logistic regression model, we examine the major factors that potentially impact the mode choices of essential travel. Results show that various socioeconomic, transport supply, health concern and travel purpose have significantly influenced travel mode choices of essential travel. The concept of essential travel will, in the era of port-pandemic, have profound implications on transportation policy making, especially on how to improve the fundamental welfare of the disadvantaged population. Despite massive investments, bus ridership has constantly declined in many cities worldwide. As public transit systems are evolving from bus-based to mixed structured, the longitudinal interactions between bus and urban rail transit (URT) have attracted the growing attention of transportation planners in many cities. Based on complex network theory and minimum spanning tree method, we examine network and scale effects of rail transit on conventional bus. Fixed effect models (FEMs) and generalized additive models (GAMs) are developed to identify non-linear causal effects of explanatory variables on bus transit ridership, rail transit ridership and total transit ridership, using China's city-level data during 2005–2020. The results showed when GDP per capita exceeded 75,000 yuan, residents would start switching away from bus; (2) for cities with advanced URT networks, simply improving bus service quality or constructing the rail network is not as effective as optimizing both together. Therefore, we recommend that for cities where the URT was less developed, financial resources need to be strategically invested in the bus transit networks so as to accommodate citizens' travel demand. Meanwhile, collaborative multimodal public transportation planning is essential for sustainable urban transportation development. Evaporitic deposits put great influence on the division of diagenetic systems, and different diagenetic systems experienced different diagenetic evolutions during geological history. In this research, we investigated genesis mechanism of dolomite in different diagenetic system from the Cambrian in Tarim Basin through the analysis of sedimentology, petrology and geochemistry. We conclude that the pre-salt was an open hydrothermal fluid transformation system, the inter-salt system was a nearly closed evaporation system dominated by seawater, and evaporated seawater caused dolomitization by reflux-seepage process. While the post-salt system was mainly affected by meteoric water. Abundant energy resources that are found in Tarim Basin are hosted in pervasively dolomitized carbonates of the Cambrian age. The thick dolostone is distributed widely, deeply buried and quite complex in diagenesis. The middle Cambrian gypsum sequence is widespread in west of the Tarim basin. From bottom to top, the Cambrian is divided into pre-salt, inter-salt and post-salt with various diagenesis types and degree causing different sealing properties. Subsurface core samples from the three systems were studied using cathodoluminescence (CL), isotope studies (δ13C, δ18O and 87Sr/86Sr), fluid inclusion, and elemental analysis for rare earth elements (ΣREE) to determine the origin of the dolomitizing fluids. Trace elements and isotope data show that high salinity seawater was most likely responsible for dolomitization of pre-salt system. Likewise, the pre-salt system has been the result of an open hydrothermal fluid transformation system. The inter-salt system was sealed by the upper gypsum layer and lower gypsum layer. The gypsum layer not only enhanced the sealing property of inter-salt strata but also impeded dolomitization, where the evaporating seawater caused dolomitization by reflux-seepage process. Therefore, the inter-salt system was a nearly closed evaporation system dominated by the seawater. The geochemical parameters reveal that the post-salt system has a variety of fluid sources and mainly interacts with meteoric water and seawater, since the C isotope was clearly negative and Y/Ho ratio was found low(＜30). Abstract: In China, no data are available to evaluate the interchangeability between Chinese domestic inactivated hepatitis A vaccines (Healive) and imported inactivated hepatitis A vaccines (Havrix). A double-blind, randomized controlled study was to compare interchangeability and safety of Healive and Havrix among Chinese children. Vaccine was administered to 303 healthy children at 0 and 6 months in one of four vaccine regimens: Healive–Healive; Healive–Havrix; Havrix–Healive or Havrix–Havrix. We collected sera samples at 0 (before vaccination), 6 (before second dose) and 7 months (after second dose), and compared groups in terms of proportion of sero-conversions which is defined as ≥20mIU/ml, and geometric mean concentrations (GMCs) of anti-hepatitis A virus (HAV) antibody. Seroconversion rates were 133/133 (100%) for those received one dose of Healive and 105/131 (80.2%) for those received one dose of Havrix at 6 months, respectively (P <0.001), GMCs for Healive and Havrix were 126.1 and 40.9mIU/ml (P <0.001), respectively. At 7 months, the seroconversion rate was 100% among all groups. The GMC after two doses of Healive was 8905.5mIU/ml compared with 1900.9mIU/ml after two doses of Havrix (P <0.001). The GMC in the Healive–Havrix group was 3275.8mIU/ml compared with 4165.8mIU/ml in the Havrix–Healive group (P =0.058). There is not different of reported adverse reactions across the groups. An extensive literature survey of over 17 Journals was carried out on Chinese sponges and their natural products in the period from 1980 to 2001. This review is thus intended to provide the first thorough overview of research on marine sponges from China Ocean territories. Information is provided about the rather-limited taxonomic study of Chinese marine sponges, with an analysis on their distribution and diversity. Research findings on the natural products and their bioactivity screening from Chinese sponges are summarized. The weaknesses, gaps and problems in the past R&D program of Chinese sponges are identified, which point to the future opportunities in exploiting these huge untapped sponge resources. The report is expected to serve as an entry point for understanding Chinese sponges and for furthering R&D on their bioactive compounds for new drug development. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Total dissolved gas (TDG) supersaturation caused by flood discharge water poses a threat to vital activities such as migration, foraging, and evasion in fish species upstream of the Yangtze River, which may impair the ability of fish to pass through fishways during the migration period, causing poor utilization of fishways. Previous studies have shown that TDG supersaturation reduces the critical and burst swimming abilities of fish, suggesting potential adverse effects on swimming performance. However, studies focusing on the impact of TDG on fish swimming behavior in experimental vertical-slot fishways remain scarce. Therefore, in this study, silver carp (Hypophthalmichthys molitrix) and ya-fish (Schizothorax prenanti) were used as the study species, and comparative passage experiments were carried out in an experimental vertical slot fishway to systematically analyze the effects of TDG supersaturation on their passage behavior. The passage success of the silver carp was 57%, 39%, 26%, and 27% at TDG levels of 100%, 110%, 120%, and 130%, respectively. Passage success of ya-fish was 73%, 37%, 31%, and 35% at TDG concentrations of 100%, 110%, 120%, and 130%, respectively. The passage time for both species increased significantly with increasing TDG levels. Furthermore, the passage routes of silver carp changed significantly compared to the control group, whereas the passage routes of ya-fish changed insignificantly. High levels of TDG supersaturation (≥120%) also contributed to a higher mortality rate of ya-fish passing through the vertical slot fishway. Urban-rural integration is the critical process of urbanization, while during this process there are various corresponding problems generated, safety is the most important one, especially at urban-rural fringe areas due to mixed traffic flow and complicated land use. This study intended to investigate the injury severity interaction between urban area and urban-rural fringe area, and explore the correlation within injury severity levels and heterogeneity attributed to unobserved factors. To address the correlation and heterogeneity issues, a grouped random parameters seemingly unrelated bivariate (SUB) probit model was proposed, in which the SUB probit model addressed the correlation of residuals, while the random parameters model accommodated the heterogeneity due to unobserved factors. By comparing the pooled with random parameters models, the results showed that random parameters SUB probit model performed better than the pooled one, and the dataset collected from 2013 to 2017 in Chengdu, China was adopted to illustrate the proposed model. It is found that crash location, speed limit and age of person injured are significant for injury severity in urban and urban-rural fringe areas, but crash form plays a significant role in urban area while number of persons involved should be paid more attention due to injury severity in urban-rural fringe area. Some empirical suggestions are presented to improve the safety in urban and urban-rural fringe areas.

To understand the current status of public knowledge of automated external defibrillator (AED) and their willingness to use public AED in Hubei Province, along with the influencing factors. A self-designed questionnaire was used for convenience sampling of the public in Hubei Province. The questionnaire consists of three parts: basic information, AED knowledge questions, and willingness to use public AED and influencing factors. Data was collected between May 2022 and March 2023. A total of 1561 valid questionnaires were collected from 1602 distributed. In the study conducted in Hubei Province, it was found that 875 respondents (56.05%) had knowledge of automated external defibrillator, and they achieved an average score of 39.27 ± 29.17. The pass rate for the survey was 28.11%. Several factors were identified as significant influencing factors, including gender, age, education level, occupation related to medicine, residential location in the past three years, family members with cardiovascular disease, marital status, residential population density, whether there are family members over 65 years old, and participation in AED-related training (P < .05).Furthermore, 692 respondents (72.99%) expressed their willingness to cardiopulmonary resuscitation for someone experiencing cardiac arrest. On the other hand, 686 respondents (43.95%) had no knowledge of AED. Among those who were not willing to perform defibrillation, the highest percentages cited "fear of incorrect use" (129, 31.2%) and "fear of harming the patient" (121, 29.3%) as their reasons. The study also found statistically significant differences in the willingness to use public AED based on participation in training, education level, residential location, family members with cardiovascular disease, population density, and the presence of elderly family members aged 65 or over (P < .05). In conclusion, the study highlights the general lack of public knowledge regarding AED in Hubei Province. However, there is a strong willingness among respondents to provide help during cardiac arrest situations. With the development of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, there have been doubts about the necessity of vaccine boosters for healthy adults. However, due to the lack of relevant evidence, current research is unable to provide reliable medical advice for COVID-19 boost in healthy adults. We conducted a retrospective observational study to evaluate the effectiveness of different COVID-19 vaccination regimens by investigating the SARS-CoV-2 infection status of healthy donors in Southeast China. From December 2022 to February 2023, 737 healthy adult blood donors were analyzed. Results showed that any COVID-19 vaccine boosts reduced the risk of Omicron BA.5.2/BF.7 infection compared to only receiving prime vaccination (rVE = 16%, 95%CI = 4, 27%). The second boost further enhanced vaccine effectiveness compared to the received first booster (rVE = 39%, 95%CI = 16, 55%). Through retrospective observation of healthy adults during the BA.5.2/BF.7 surge in China, we found that boost vaccinations significantly reduce the risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection and disease. Findings show healthy adults benefit from boost vaccinations, even if not at high-risk for severe COVID-19.

In this study, we aimed to investigate the long-term spatiotemporal changes in hydrodynamics, antibiotics, nine typical subtypes of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs), class 1 integron gene (intI1), and microbial communities in the sediments of a semi-enclosed estuary during ecological restoration with four treatment stages (influent (#1), effluent of the biological treatment area (#2), oxic area (#3), and plant treatment area (#4)). Ecological restoration of the estuary reduced common pollutants (nitrogen and phosphorus) in the water, whereas variations in ARGs showed noticeable seasonal and spatial features. The absolute abundance of ARGs at sampling site #2 considerably increased in autumn and winter, while it significantly increased at sampling site #3 in spring and summer. The strong intervention of biological treatment (from #1 to #2) and aerators (from #2 to #3) in the estuary substantially affected the distribution of ARGs and dominant antibiotic-resistant bacteria (ARB). The dominant ARB (Thiobacillus) in estuarine sediments may have low abundance but important dissemination roles. Meanwhile, redundancy and network analysis revealed that the microbial communities and intl1 were key factors related to ARG dissemination, which was affected by spatial and seasonal ecological restoration. A positive correlation between low flow velocity and certain ARGs (tetM, tetW, tetA, sul2, and ermC) was observed, implying that flow optimization should also be considered in future ecological restoration to remediate ARGs. Brackish water aquaculture has brought numerous economic benefits, whereas anthropogenic activities in aquaculture may cause the dissemination of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) in brackish water sediments. The intricate relationships between environmental factors and microbial communities as well as their role in ARGs dissemination in brackish water aquaculture remain unclear. This study applied PCR and 16S sequencing to identify the variations in ARGs, class 1 integron gene (intI1) and microbial communities in brackish water aquaculture sediment. The distribution of ARGs in brackish water aquaculture sediment was similar to that in freshwater aquaculture, and the sulfonamide resistance gene sul1 was the indicator of ARGs. Proteobacteria and Firmicutes were the dominant phyla, and Paenisporosarcina (p&#95; Firmicutes) was the dominant genus. The results of correlation, network and redundancy analysis indicated that the microbial community in the brackish water aquaculture sediment was function-driven. The neutral model and variation partitioning analysis were used to verify the ecological processes of the bacterial community. The normalized stochasticity ratio showed that pond bacteria community was dominated by determinacy, which was affected by aquaculture activities. The total nitrogen and organic matter influenced the abundance of ARGs, while Proteobacteria and Thiobacillus (p&#95;Proteobacteria) were the key antibiotic-resistant hosts. Shrub removal is a common management method in forest ecosystems, but comparatively little is known regarding the effects of shrub removal on soil microbial communities among primary forest, secondary forest, and plantation forests in temperate forests, which limits our accurate assessment of sustainable management of understory vegetation removal. Given this, we used a long-term operation experiment across a contrasting mixed broadleaved-Pinus koraiensis forest, Betula platyphylla forest, and Larix gmelinii plantation forest to explore the variations of soil properties and microbial community after 5 years of shrub removal on Changbai Mountain, as well as the contribution of the soil properties and understory plant diversity to the soil microbial community. The results demonstrated that shrub removal could significantly alter soil SWC and TN, TP, and AP contents of the L. gmelinii, as well as N/P of B. platyphylla. Moreover, shrub removal also clearly improved soil bacterial Pielou&#95;e index and Simpson index of mixed broadleaved-P. koraiensis and soil bacterial Simpson index of L. gmelinii, and decreased soil fungal Pielou&#95;e index and Shannon index of L. gmelinii and soil bacterial Pielou&#95;e index and soil fungal Shannon index of B. platyphylla. Identically, shrub removal notably altered the soil bacterial community composition. Soil characteristics and understory plant diversity accounted for 48.02% and 26.88%, and 45.88% and 27.57% of the variance in the bacterial and fungal community composition, respectively. Infection caused by respiratory viruses can lead to a severe respiratory disease and even death. Vaccination is the most effective way to prevent the disease, but it cannot be quickly applied when facing an emerging infectious disease. Here, we demonstrated that immunization with an aluminium-zinc hybrid particulate adjuvant (FH-001) alone, bearing great resemblance in morphology with commonly used aluminium-based adjuvants in vaccines, could quickly induce mice to generate a broadly protective immune response to resist the lethal challenge of influenza B viruses. Furthermore, a multi-omics-based analysis revealed that the alveolar macrophage and type I interferon pathway, rather than adaptive immunity and type II interferon pathway, were essential for the observed prophylactic effect of FH-001. More importantly, a similar protective effect was observed against influenza A virus strain A/Shanghai/02/2013(H7N9), A/California/04/2009(H1N1) and respiratory syncytial virus. Therefore, we introduced here a new and promising strategy that can be quickly applied during the outbreak of emerging respiratory viruses.

Freshwater reservoirs are an important source of the greenhouse gas methane (CH 4 ). However, little is known about the activity and structure of microbial communities involved in methanogenic decomposition of sediment organic matter (SOM) in cascade hydropower reservoirs. In this study, we targeted on sediments of three cascade reservoirs in Wujiang River, Southwest China. Our results showed that the content of sediment organic carbon (SOC) was between 3% and 11%, and it's positively correlated with both C/N ratio and recalcitrant organic carbon content of SOM. Meanwhile, SOC content was positively correlated with CH 4 production rates but had no significant correlation with total CO 2 production rates of the sediments, when rates were normalized to sediment volume. Resultantly, the sediment anaerobic decomposition rates hardly significantly increase along with the SOC content. These results suggested that the terrestrial organic matter accumulated after damming stimulated CH 4 production from the reservoir sediments even though its decomposition rate was limited. Meantime, high throughput sequencing of 16S rRNA genes indicated that not only the hydrogenotrophic and acetoclastic, but also the methylotrophic methanogens (Methanomassiliicoccus) are abundant in the reservoir sediments. Moreover, metagenomic sequencing also suggested that methylotrophic methanogenesis are potentially important in the sediment of cascade reservoirs. In this study, we investigate the seroprevalence of SARS-CoV-2 antibodies among blood donors in the cities of Wuhan, Shenzhen, and Shijiazhuang in China. From January to April 2020, 38,144 healthy blood donors in the three cities were tested for total antibody against SARS-CoV-2 followed by pseudotype SARS-CoV-2 neutralization tests, IgG, and IgM antibody testing. Finally, a total of 398 donors were confirmed positive. The age- and sex-standardized SARS-CoV-2 seroprevalence among 18-60 year-old adults (18-65 year-old in Shenzhen) was 2.66% (95% CI: 2.24%-3.07%) in Wuhan, 0.033% (95% CI: 0.0029%-0.267%) in Shenzhen, and 0.0028% (95% CI: 0.0001%-0.158%) in Shijiazhuang, respectively. Female sex and older-age were identified to be independent risk factors for SARS-CoV-2 seropositivity among blood donors in Wuhan. As most of the population of China remained uninfected during the early wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, effective public health measures are still certainly required to block viral spread before a vaccine is widely available.

Background: China has a large population of older people, but has not yet undertaken a comprehensive study on the prevalence, risk factors, and management of both dementia and mild cognitive impairment (MCI)., Methods: For this national cross-sectional study, 46 011 adults aged 60 years or older were recruited between March 10, 2015, and Dec 26, 2018, using a multistage, stratified, cluster-sampling method, which considered geographical region, degree of urbanisation, economic development status, and sex and age distribution. 96 sites were randomly selected in 12 provinces and municipalities representative of all socioeconomic and geographical regions in China. Participants were interviewed to obtain data on sociodemographic characteristics, lifestyle, medical history, current medications, and family history, and then completed a neuropsychological testing battery administered by a psychological evaluator. The prevalence of dementia (Alzheimer's disease, vascular dementia, and other dementias) and MCI were calculated and the risk factors for different groups were examined using multivariable-adjusted analyses., Findings: Overall age-adjusted and sex-adjusted prevalence was estimated to be 6·0% (95% CI 5·8-6·3) for dementia, 3·9% (3·8-4·1) for Alzheimer's disease, 1·6% (1·5-1·7) for vascular dementia, and 0·5% (0·5-0·6) for other dementias. We estimated that 15·07 million (95% CI 14·53-15·62) people aged 60 years or older in China have dementia: 9·83 million (9·39-10·29) with Alzheimer's disease, 3·92 million (3·64-4·22) with vascular dementia, and 1·32 million (1·16-1·50) with other dementias. Overall MCI prevalence was estimated to be 15·5% (15·2-15·9), representing 38·77 million (37·95-39·62) people in China. Background: Timely diagnosis of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection is a prerequisite for treatment and prevention. The serology characteristics and complement diagnosis value of the antibody test to RNA test need to be demonstrated., Method: Serial sera of 80 patients with PCR-confirmed coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) were collected at the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, China. Total antibody (Ab), IgM and IgG antibodies against SARS-CoV-2 were detected, and the antibody dynamics during the infection were described., Results: The seroconversion rates for Ab, IgM and IgG were 98.8%, 93.8% and 93.8%, respectively. The first detectible serology marker was Ab, followed by IgM and IgG, with a median seroconversion time of 15, 18 and 20 days post exposure (d.p.e.) or 9, 10 and 12 days post onset (d.p.o.), respectively. The antibody levels increased rapidly beginning at 6 d.p.o. and were accompanied by a decline in viral load. For patients in the early stage of illness (0-7 d.p.o), Ab showed the highest sensitivity (64.1%) compared with IgM and IgG (33.3% for both; p<0.001). The sensitivities of Ab, IgM and IgG increased to 100%, 96.7% and 93.3%, respectively, 2 weeks later. When the same antibody type was detected, no significant difference was observed between enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays and other forms of immunoassays., Conclusions: A typical acute antibody response is induced during SARS-CoV-2 infection. Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a novel and lethal infectious disease, posing a threat to global health security. The number of cases has increased rapidly, but no data concerning kidney transplant (KTx) recipients infected with COVID-19 are available. To present the epidemiological, clinical, and therapeutic characteristics of KTx recipients infected with COVID-19, we report on a case series of five patients who were confirmed as having COVID-19 through nucleic acid testing (NAT) from January 1, 2020 to February 28, 2020. The most common symptoms on admission to hospital were fever (five patients, 100%), cough (five patients, 100%), myalgia or fatigue (three patients, 60%), and sputum production (three patients, 60%); serum creatinine or urea nitrogen levels were slightly higher than those before symptom onset. Four patients received a reduced dose of maintenance immunosuppressive therapy during hospitalization. As of March 4, 2020 NAT was negative for COVID-19 in three patients twice in succession, and their computed tomography scans showed improved images. Although greater patient numbers and long-term follow-up data are needed, our series demonstrates that mild COVID-19 infection in KTx recipients can be managed using symptomatic support therapy combined with adjusted maintenance immunosuppressive therapy., (Copyright © 2020 European Association of Urology. Dark carbon fixation (DCF) by chemolithotrophic microbes can make considerable contribution to inorganic carbon fixation in aquatic ecosystems. However, little is known about the importance and diversity of chemolithotrophic microbes in cascade reservoir sediments. In this study, we determined the potential DCF rates of sediments of three cascade reservoirs in Wujiang River basin by carbon isotopic labeling. The results showed that the DCF rates of the surface sediments ranged from 1.5 to 14.7 mmol C m -2 d -1 . The ratio of DCF to mineralization rate of sediment organic matter of surface sediment was between 11.6%~60.9%. High-throughput sequencing analysis of cbbL and cbbM genes involved in Calvin Benson Cycle indicated that cbbL-carrying CO 2 -assimilating bacteria included diverse functional groups, while cbbM type was mostly involved in sulfur oxidation. The sediments of Hongfeng (HF) reservoir, which has much longer hydraulic residence time (HRT) and locates in most upstream of a major tributary of Wujiang River, have substantially higher DCF rates. The cbbL and cbbM communities in HF were dominated by sulfur oxidizing bacteria, and were largely different from that in the other two reservoirs. Our results suggested that chemolithotrophy plays an important role in carbon cycling of sediments in cascade reservoir. In circumstances where total dissolved gas (TDG) levels are variable, the peak TDG and duration are expected to be the dominant drivers of fish survival. Focusing on the peak TDG and duration in natural rivers, a laboratory experiment and field experiments in the upper Yangtze River were conducted with Prenant's Schizothoracin ( Schizothorax prenanti ), a rare species inhabiting the upper Yangtze River, to examine the tolerance characteristics of fish under varying gas supersaturation levels. The results of the field experiments showed that TDG supersaturation in natural rivers changed greatly during the flood period due to reservoir regulation. The survival of fish was affected by TDG levels, water depth and TDG fluctuation range. A high TDG level, and shallow compensatory water depth caused fish mortality in the field experiment to be higher in September than in July. The results of the laboratory experiment showed that fish tolerance was lower under fluctuating TDG supersaturation than under constant TDG supersaturation. The tolerance of fish to TDG supersaturation varied depending on peak TDG and duration. Under the fluctuation range of 115-125%, fish survival in the 6 h-6 h cycle was significantly different from that in the 8 h-8 h cycle. The fluctuation cycle did not affect fish survival at the fluctuation range of 110-130%. Intermittent lower TDG supersaturation does not significantly increase the tolerance of fish. This study revealed the tolerance characteristics of resident fish in the upper Yangtze River to TDG supersaturation, which provides a reference to the ecological operation of reservoirs and may contribute to the protection of aquatic organisms.

Microplastics are emerging contaminants of increasing concern. Despite the occurrence of microplastics in farmland soils, the knowledge on microplastics in rice-fish co-culture ecosystems is limited. In this study, we investigated the distribution of microplastics in three rice-fish culture stations in Shanghai. During non-rice and rice-planting periods, microplastics in water, soils and aquatic animals (eel, loach and crayfish) were systematically assayed using methods of NaCl density extraction, H 2 O 2 digestion and micro-fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. Results showed that average microplastic abundances were 0.4 ± 0.1 items L -1 , 10.3 ± 2.2 items kg -1 , 1.7 ± 0.5 items individual -1 in water, soils and aquatic animal samples, respectively. We found an increasing trend in microplastic abundances in water, soil and animal samples from non-rice period to rice-planting period. Almost all of microplastics were found in digestive tracts of animals. Major microplastics were small (<1 mm) polyethylene and polypropylene fibers, with color of white and translucent. Size, shape, color and polymer type distributions of microplastics were similarly found in environmental and animal samples. Moreover, microplastic abundances in aquatic animals correlated to abundance in farmland soils. This study, for the first time, reveals the occurrence and characteristics of microplastic pollution in rice-fish culture ecosystem which suggests the potential ecological risks of microplastics in the agroecosystem., (Copyright © 2018.
