One type of computational indeterminacy arises from partitioning a system's physical state space into state types that correspond to the abstract state types underlying the computation concerned. The mechanistic individuative strategy posits that computation can be uniquely identified through either narrow physical properties exclusively or wide, proximal properties. The semantic strategy posits that computation should be uniquely identified through semantic properties. We develop, and defend, an alternative functional individuative strategy that appeals—when needed—to wide, distal functions. The impact and influence that a religious tradition can have amongst culturally out-group populations can be quite unexpected and can even "boomerang" back home in equally unpredictable ways. This article explores one example of a Chinese religion's unexpected cultural influence within the Western psychiatric community using religious Daoism and its appropriation by analytical psychologist Carl Jung. Although elements of religious Daoism, such as Daoist Internal Alchemy or the Yijing, integrated into a system of psychiatric practices, its influence was not straightforward. It will be argued that Jungian ideas such as active imagination, individuation, and synchronicity were directly influenced or inspired by Jung's exposure to religious Daoism through Richard Wilhelm, Daoist texts, and his own adoption of Daoist Internal Alchemy techniques, an influence which would reverberate through both Western and Chinese popular culture. This article addresses the presence in Jung's writings of the archetypes of meaning ('the wise old man') and anima ('life itself'), understood as personalized, yet also timeless, transformative 'complexes of experience'. In this perspective, Elijah-Philemon, Salomé- anima , Ha, Ka, and Phanēs belong to a kinship that Jung endeavored to retrace to its furthest reaches, the Islamic and Gnostic layers soon giving way to their ancient Egyptian Hermetic roots. By engaging dialogically with these figures, hence by recognizing their transpersonal and transhistorical agency, Jung succeeded in reviving 'that most ancient', deeply feminine, form of thinking which understands intelligence as 'an autonomous activity whose object [mankind] is' (Jung, 1968a, § 79). The challenge of developing an embodied, feeling-based relationship with the archetypal figures of cosmic psyche remains sound advice today, besieged as we are by increasingly meaning-deprived and life-wanting approaches to 'intelligence', construed as an autonomous, hence artificially-reproducible, activity whose subject mankind purports to be. The author draws on Gilbert Simondon's concept of individuation to theorize "doxastic individuation" as a process of doxa formation in online communities. Doxastic individuation involves the resolution of tensions in the network's experiences, emotions and values, culminating in multifaceted doxa that render users compatible and promote interchange. The author's theorization is accompanied by analyses of a populous online community on a major social media platform (AskReddit) and a niche music forum (I Hate Music). This essay explores the relevance of Jungian individuation within African feminist political philosophy. It examines the rise of populism in Africa and the persistent debate between individualism and communitarianism, which often distracts from addressing patriarchy. By integrating Jungian individuation with African feminism and Yoruba cosmology, a novel approach is proposed to transcend this dualism. The essay critiques the rise of Populist Anti-Western Nativism (PAWN), highlighting its detrimental impact on African feminist efforts and its promotion of reactionary, patriarchal, and populist beliefs. Through a personal journey of individuation, the essay illustrates how this process can foster both individual autonomy and community well-being. This paper makes a distinction between ahistorical causal-functional kinds and historical kinds, which include both type- and token-historical kinds, some of which are "copied kinds." After showing how these distinctions play out in various social sciences, a number of reasons are put forward for the historical individuation of some social kinds. As in the natural sciences, historical individuation in the social sciences can enable us to infer common causes, explain synchronic causal properties, and discover exceptions to causal regularities, among other epistemic aims. The dual stream model of the human and non-human primate visual systems remains Leslie Ungerleider's (1946–2020) most indelible contribution to visual neuroscience. In this model, a dorsal "where" stream specialized for visuospatial representation extends through occipitoparietal cortex, whereas a ventral "what" stream specialized for representing object qualities extends through occipitotemporal cortex. Over time, this model underwent a number of revisions and expansions. In one of her last scientific contributions, Leslie proposed a third visual stream specialized for representing dynamic signals related to social perception. This alteration invites the question: What is a visual stream, and how are different visual streams individuated? In this article, we first consider and reject a simple answer to this question based on a common idealizing visualization of the model, which conflicts with the complexities of the visual system that the model was intended to capture. Next, we propose a taxonomic answer that takes inspiration from the philosophy of science and Leslie's body of work, which distinguishes between neural mechanisms, pathways, and streams. In this taxonomy, visual streams are superordinate to pathways and mechanisms and provide individuation conditions for determining whether collections of cortical connections delineate different visual streams. Given this characterization, we suggest that the proposed third visual stream does not yet meet these conditions, although the tripartite model still suggests important revisions to how we think about the organization of the human and non-human primate visual systems. In this paper, we articulate a functional approach to cognitive capacities. It is a restricted functionalism for various reasons, but especially because it does not claim that all cognitive (and/or mental) entities and processes are functional in the sense of a systemic capacities approach. One of the central aims of a cognitive theory consists in providing explanations of behavioral phenomena of (human and non-human) animals, and of the phenomena that are involved in those explanations. We accept that part of what lies at the heart of these explanations are certain functional entities –we call them "cognitive functional systems" –which in our view stand for most of the cognitive capacities of an organism; that is, systems that are individuated primarily by the main cognitive functions they undertake. Additionally, in the paper, we go into further detail concerning these functional systems, their internal organization, the nature of their causal interactions, etc. We also argue that some of these classes of cognitive functional systems (i.e., cognitive capacities) can be construed as "natural kinds" whenever their kinds of functional organizations are understood as kinds of hierarchically ordered classes of information processing events that are related among each other in regular (often complex) ways. I argue that Grim's diagonalization argument against the possibility of omniscience is not sound by arguing that the properties of being a proposition or a truth are not legitimate sortal properties. Thus, the fact that there can be no set corresponding to the extension of these properties does not imply that there is no completed totality of the things possessing it. First, I demonstrate that a correspondence theory of truth implies that propositions are non-linguistic representations of a type that resist determinate and uniform individuation into units and allow for arbitrary division into parts that are also propositions. The property is, therefore, an abstract mass property with no determinate cardinality of individuals that possess it. I then sketch a new theory of omniscience with this as its basis. Trauma-informed practices in school settings aim to help students understand how past traumas may trigger memories of hurt and neglect, how they can distinguish these earlier memories from the present, so that they can form themselves into healthy, functioning adults. Although approaches adopted thus far may remedy students' cognitive, emotional, and social well-being, little is done to address the spiritual needs that many students may also need to individuate and lead healthy lives in an often difficult world. To address this gap, this article applies Jung's work on individuation in the context of spirituality, shamanism, and Bakhtin's idea of the carnivalesque, together with the groundbreaking HBO television series The Leftovers, for insights into how teachers can better address traumas that young people experience and may struggle to overcome. How does personal identity multiplicity—a self-perception with more elements—help an individual connect with others? I argue that identity multiplicity increases the likelihood of establishing professional network ties through two mechanisms: individuation, or the tendency of a potential network partner to view one as an individual as opposed to a representative of a category; and identity homophily, or the attraction and interaction opportunities that emerge as a function of shared identity elements with a potential partner. The benefits of identity multiplicity are particularly strong for promoting interracial ties as individuation reduces racial stereotyping. The aim of this work is to show more consciously and tangibly how and under which conditions we can optimally develop our inner potential in today's world. The work defines a theoretical mathematical model that is intended to show the dynamics of individuation a priori on the individual and collective level and describes the associated variables with this mathematical model in detail. The work gives insights on how and why information in today's world transmit by the construction of memory traces and emotionally charged stimuli. Moreover, it introduces ideas about the role of quantum physical processes in the emergence of consciousness and intrinsic mobilization of energy. Three hypothetical courses are described: under which conditions an individual grows, regresses over time and how a natural course looks like. The work concludes with an ethical dilemma about what it means to be and remain a human being who can control his or her animal instincts and what we should normatively align our human progress with throughout our lives. Furthermore, the work explores implications based on the decision of the two options artificial intelligences choose in the ethical dilemma. The work is intended to derive insights and new ideas for change on the individual and collective level to be able to progress productively and responsibly. Over the past 20 to 30 years, relational, post‐humanist, processual, and non‐representational approaches to space and place have gained an increasing purchase within anglophone human geography, whether underpinned by academic engagements with Western philosophy, anthropology, or indigenous thinking and praxis. One approach by anglophone geographers has been to incorporate assemblage thinking into constructivist and representational accounts of the building, settling, and/or disassembling of places, but here I argue that assemblage may not be the best way to do this if we wish to foreground process and the dynamism of places. Assemblage theories place too much emphasis on the structural logics and thing‐like qualities of identifiable places, even when they aim to focus on the processual or verb‐like qualities of places. I suggest that geographers who are keen to advance processual and dynamic understandings of place can usefully (re)focus their attention on Deleuze and Guattari's writings on the ritournelle (refrain) because they articulate many of the rhythmic, repetitive, differentiated, intensive, affective, eventful, and performative qualities of placing and emplacement, while resisting any easy assimilation into constructivist and representational ‘building’ perspectives which foreground the assembly and disassembly of worlds. I outline the usefulness of Gilbert Simondon's writings on individuation and crystal growth for understanding individual‐milieu relations, before discussing Deleuze and Guattari's description of the refrain as being like a ‘glass harmonica’, which captures the reverberative, refractive, and rhythmic aspects of the concept. I then revisit a series of well‐established debates about the relationship between place and placelessness, or places and ‘non‐places’, suggesting how placelessness and non‐places can be linked to either a failed process of individuation or to uneventful expressions of a series of circulating, deterritorialising, and territorialising refrains which have differing rhythmic effects. In recent discussions, the widespread conviction that scientific individuation practices are governed by theories and concepts of biological individuality has been challenged, particularly by advocates of practice-based approaches. This discussion raises questions about the relationship between individuation practices and concepts of individuality. In this paper, I discuss four studies of host–parasite systems and analyze the respective individuation practices to see whether they correspond to established concepts of biological individuality. My analysis suggests that scientists individuate biological systems on different levels of organization and that the researchers' respective emphasis on one of the levels depends on the explanandum and research context as well as epistemic aims and purposes. It thus makes sense to use different concepts of individuality to account for different individuation practices. However, not all individuation practices are represented equally well by concepts of biological individuality. To account for this observation, I propose that concepts of individuality should be understood as abstracted, idealized, or simplified models that represent only certain aspects of scientific practice. A modeling account suggests a pluralistic view of concepts of biological individuality that not only allows the coexistence of different kinds of individuality (e.g., evolutionary individuality, immunological individuality, ecological individuality) but also of normative and descriptive concepts. Polysemy has recently emerged as a popular topic in philosophy of language. While much existing research focuses on the relatedness among senses, this article introduces a novel perspective that emphasizes the continuity of sense individuation, sense regularity, and sense productivity. This new perspective has only recently gained traction, largely due to advancements in computational linguistics. It also poses a serious challenge to semantic minimalism, so I present three arguments against minimalism from the continuous perspective that touch on the minimal concept, the distinction from homonymy, and the quasi‐rule‐like nature of polysemy. The division of the races, created for the economic and political purposes of justifying slavery and colonialism, is a deep, entrenched, social structure which creates and promotes white privilege and is one within which we all live. No one can be free from it. This presentation is rooted in the assumption that the problem of racism today is a problem of whiteness and that it is an examination of this construct, therefore, which needs to be central to seeking a solution to this destructive dynamic. The work required of whiteness and the letting go of privilege is essential if we are to dismantle the system of racism that is so embedded within our society. I argue this is no altruistic endeavour but that, whilst clearly doing untold harm to people of colour, such a system also limits and distorts the development and individuation of white individuals and the society in which we are citizens. Is Being a mere sum of separate things variously re‐combined over time? Or is it not there at all, arising from nothing more than the projection of a fevered metaphysical imagination? Or might it be the intrawoven phenomenon of all we experience, grounded in a single underlying all‐determining nature? This is the first of a pair of articles on the ontological issues that prompted a philosophical fork between pluralism, nihilism, and monism in India. The present article will focus on Indian critiques of metaphysical pluralism based on the apparent incoherence of ultimately individuating reality's building blocks. The second article will focus on debates about grounding of the causal powers that shape the world and fix it modally. I trace critiques of pluralism (the view found in Vaiśeṣika and Abhidharma that Being is composed of plural fundamental 'bits') through to the competing conclusions of the Madhyamaka 'emptiness' view, and Vedānta's idea that there is a single ground of all Being. For the nihilists, commonsense realism about Being must be repudiated in such a way as to destroy the notion of Being itself. For the monists, the philosophical problems with a pluralistic ontology show that Being is a complex yet holistic medium, and the ground of a cosmos‐defining modal inheritance. Thus in each article I tell the story of how debates about individuation, relation, causation, recombination and modal inheritance blossomed into some of history's most radical philosophies of Being—and in each I set out some prospects for the monistic view's core ontological claims that Being is, and is one. Onofri [Onofri, A. 2018. 'The Publicity of Thought.' Philosophical Quarterly 68 (272): 521–541.] proposes an individuation criterion for thoughts that purports to satisfy both shareability (the notion that different thinkers, or a single thinker at different times, can and generally do think type-identical thoughts) and Frege's constraint (according to which two thoughts are different if it is possible for a rational subject to endorse one while rejecting the other). Fuzzy relational music perception concerns the representation of congruent connections between musical features as fuzzy relations used to individuate and assemble concepts and conceptual hierarchies. This article presents two universal fuzzy domains of discourse, harmony H and grouping G, which partition sets using triangular norms (t-norms) based on generalised harmonic root support and generalised time regularity, respectively. Fuzzy relations between the sets of the domains are formed in the innate fuzzy neural architecture of a dedicated music faculty. Fuzzy relations are shown to be necessary representations for interconnection between the domains to individuate and assemble concepts. Concepts are individuated and assembled by virtue of fuzzy set resemblance relations between domains, or fuzzy logical implication relations in one or both domains through time. Fuzzy resemblance relations comprise the properties of weak reflexivity, weak symmetry and antitransitivity in a H X G Cartesian product space. Fuzzy implication relations involve fuzzy overlap (or continuation) of elements, calculated using a t-norm operator (min operator), in one or both domains of the product space. Supplementary theory is incorporated to explain polyphonic structure, involving pluralistic superimposition of independent fuzzy relational hierarchies. Broadly, fuzzy relational music perception is a rationalistic model that builds on generative theories and associative--statistical and connectionist approaches by providing a compact and coherent process for determining interaction across musical parameters. Cognitive-behavioral interventions for anxiety and obsessive–compulsive disorder have received a great deal of attention for their growing evidence base. These therapies focus on symptom elimination by way of cognitive and behavioral change and, though undoubtedly helpful, miss important symbolic aspects of the client's experience of these disorders that have the potential for meaning and the resolution of traumatic history. Jungian psychotherapy, like other depth-oriented and humanistically oriented approaches, is concerned both with meaning in the client's life and the process by which the client becomes more themselves by integrating fragmented, wounded, and hidden aspects of the psyche—a process known as individuation. This article integrates Jungian concepts with trauma theory to generate an integrative framework for psychotherapy with individuals with anxiety and obsessive–compulsive disorder. The case of "Stefan," which provides a description of trauma-informed psychotherapy incorporating eye movement desensitization and reprocessing within a Jungian framework, is then presented to illustrate key elements of this theoretical integration. Although overparenting is a growing phenomenon across the globe, there is a severe lack of longitudinal studies examining the trajectory of overparenting and its effects on early adolescent development, particularly in non‐Western contexts. The study collected three waves of longitudinal data from 1328 early Chinese adolescents in Hong Kong with an interval of 1 year to examine the stability and change of perceived paternal and maternal overparenting and their effects on adolescent psychological wellbeing. The results indicated that perceived paternal and maternal overparenting declined over time. Besides, adolescents reported lower anxiety and depressive symptoms when they perceived a steep decline in maternal overparenting. Adolescent anxiety at earlier time points also predicted a steeper decline in paternal and maternal overparenting trajectories respectively. Furthermore, we identified gender differences in the initial level of paternal overparenting and the trajectory of maternal overparenting, as well as the effects of rates of change of maternal overparenting on adolescent anxiety and depressive symptoms. The findings give support for self‐determination theory and the separation‐individuation model, suggesting that changes of overparenting may hinder adolescents' desires for autonomy and self‐direction, which may increase their psychological morbidity. This review offers a Jungian interpretation of the movie Encanto, which won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature in 2022. The review demonstrates how Encanto is a deeply Jungian movie as transformation and healing occurs in the family members only after they become aware of their excessive and fixated identification with their own personas. Dissolution of personas precipitates a crisis that then accompanies various encounters with the shadow. This study reviews recent advances in osteometric, genetic, geochemical, and digital modeling applications since 2014 to demonstrate the expanded range of analyses and skeletal elements that can be used to separate individuals from commingled contexts. While traditional methods remain foundational to commingling resolution, new advances allow increased individuation, identification of human versus non‐human remains, and an amplified scale of assemblages that can be analyzed. This summary offers ways for practitioners to consider the juxtaposition of analytical goals, time, financial concerns, and methods when managing commingled assemblages. Forensic anthropology and bioarchaeology case studies illustrate differences related to application of methods in terms of recovery environments, project goals, and recovered materials. Whether the goal is to isolate and individuate only major elements or as many bones as possible, in nearly all cases, it is best practice to combine several types of methods to fulfill the project scope within the established parameters. This paper explores Gilbert Simondon’s Individuation in Light of Notions of Form and Information, taking the question of animality as the guiding thread. It analyzes whether in this book there is an anthropological approach that allows us to sharply separate the individuation of man from that of other animals. The initial hypothesis is that such a conception of anthropogenesis, with the humanist exceptionalism and speciesism that it implies, is incompatible with the system deployed there by Simondon. Throughout the paper, it is highlighted that Simondon’s ontology, with its ambiguities and tensions around this issue, demands to think of another concept of animality than the one he inherits from the philosophical tradition against which he stands. The author presents a long analysis of a patient, Giulia, whose obstinate will to achieve evokes the workings of alchemical sulphur at its fieriest and a dread of its coniunctio with alchemical salt. Jung's description of these symbols in Mysterium Coniunctionis offers a useful imaginal perspective to clinical work in the area of compulsion and its possible transformations. Right from the start, the analytic relationship appeared to be mirrored and affected by this alchemical perspective. However, it was only after much time, uncertainty and emotional endurance that a fuller psychological experience of sulphur and salt could be accessed, allowing the analysis to take a more imaginative and mercurial turn. The current paper argues for an onto-genetic account of our relationships with digital technologies, that captures the excessive operation of data and the meta-stabilizing role of emotion in the operation of individuation. Drawing on Gilbert Simondon's (2020a. Individuation in light of notions of form and information. Trans. T. Adkins. London: University of Minnesota Press; 2020b. London: University of Minnesota Press.) notions of information and emotion, the paper captures the deep integration of datafication in everyday life, and the operation of emotion to (meta)stabilize the pressure and tension that data generating practices present to psychosocial life. Data can operate across individual and collective life, and therefore present a tension that emotion operates to address in ensuring the persistence of the individual. The paper concludes with an argument for the value of the notion of emotional in-formation for capturing the simultaneity of data and emotion in the ongoing constitution of individuals. How does agency emerge eventfully in processes of organizational becoming? This article aims to address this question by developing a process theory of agency based on Gilbert Simondon's philosophical writings on individuation as a communicative phenomenon and Brian Massumi's writings on affect. This theory views agency as an affective force, expressed as a communicative event, that governs the transition from one process of individuation to another, producing an enhanced ability to act and potentially leading to a collective process of transindividuation that is essential to organizational becoming. In turn, this article not only offers novel theoretical as well as methodological insights for organizational research, but also highlights researchers' ethical responsibilities toward those whose individuation is precarious and who may not be able to partake in certain processes of organizational becoming. AbstractParts of Islamist Studies, Security and Conflict Studies, and Terrorism Studies reduce Shia combatants to indoctrinated masses due to their biased scholarship. Their approach remains top-down and macro-level, overlooking lived experiences and individual perceptions of those engaged in political violence. Accordingly, this article critically engages with such scholarship by highlighting how lived experiences and individual perceptions configure non-ideational paths toward political violence. I propose an ethnographically guided phenomenological inquiry of Shia nonstate armed actors and their situatedness in warscapes. I use the concept of warscapes and the complexities of individuation in warscapes to highlight the conceptual necessity of theorizing political violence from relational grounds that blurs the boundaries of micro-level and meso-level analysis. These relational grounds are shaped by inhumanities that predate conflicts and political violence reticulate inhumanities into a network that constitutes warscapes. I show this by combining the ethnography of Shia transnational militancy with the political histories of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. My critical interventions propose that Shia militancy is not only about sectarian divisions in Iraq, Lebanon, Syria or Yemen and the Islamic Republic of Iran’s defending its territories by other means. Shia militancy is also about individual worldviews, governing the multitudes, domestic politics, taming the Shia citizenry and the state keeping entropy and disorder low. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Polysemy is a phenomenon involving single lexical items with multiple related senses. Much theorizing about it has focused on developing linguistic accounts that are responsive to various compositional and representational challenges in semantics and psychology. We focus on an underexplored question: Why does systematic polysemy cluster in the ways it does? That is, why do we see certain regular patterns of sense multiplicity, but not others? Drawing on an independently motivated view of kind cognition – i.e. the formal structures for different classes of kind representations – we argue for an answer centered on conceptual individuation. Specifically, we argue that classes of kind concepts vary in what they individuate (i.e. counting as one and specifying what makes it the same or different from others). By elucidating these differences, we can explain why a range of patterns of systematic polysemy are found cross-linguistically and why other patterns are not attested. Overall, our account provides an explanatory framework addressing an important question at the interface between language and mind and opens new avenues for future theoretical and empirical research. In this article, I examine the consequences of Mamou's recent solution to the so-called problem of reindividuation. The problem is first proposed by John Broome as an argument against the Humean view of rationality and subjective decision theory. Essentially, Broome argues that the reindividuation of outcomes must be constrained in some way if the axioms of rationality are not to be vacuous, but the constraints on individuation cannot be consistent with the Humean view of rationality. Mamou offers an elegant Humean solution to this problem. We do not need such rules for reindividuation since the subjective decision theory operates under the assumption of maximal relevance of description, and only under that assumption do the axioms tell anything. Thus the problem of reindividuation dissolves in a quite natural and simple way. However, I argue that if we connect this solution to the topic of justification for the requirements of rationality, problems arise. I examine the influence of the solution on the common argument for the axioms of decision theory, the so-called money-pump arguments. These arguments are a staple in the justification of the axioms of subjective decision theory. I argue that they are in collision with Mamou's solution. This collision brings us to the dilemma: either accept Broome's conclusions or lose the money-pump arguments as an effective tool for justification of the axioms. This article discusses the origins of a special issue of Deleuze and Guattari Studies, which was prompted by the COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting social isolation. The author, Étienne Balibar, reflects on the deepening social inequalities during the pandemic and the impact on social cohesion. Balibar identifies two simultaneous processes: the passive synthesis of the human species due to the viral contagion and the anthropological fracture that creates divisions within society. The article also explores the wars in Ukraine and Gaza, highlighting the role of colonization in these conflicts. Taketori monogatari, dating from the Heian period - 794 to 1185 -, is the result of a community richly cultivated in serenity and with a great attachment to the arts. Eleven centuries after finding the oldest manuscript we have access to, Studio Ghibli releases the animated adaptation of the narrative, called The Tale of Princess Kaguya (かぐや姫の物語/Kaguya-hime no Monogatari). The research aims to verify the considerations about the original relationship between myth and literature, proposed by Eleazar M. Meletinsky (1987), and to analyze the symbolic structures that can emerge from the works - using authors such as Northrop Frye (1957) and Hayao Kawai (2007), for example, as a theoretical contribution. The importance of the study is revealed when we consider the scarce body of Brazilian research on Japanese literary studies and, in particular, on Taketori monogatari and the (re)signification caused by it through film adaptation. Finally, the constitution of the narrative is defended as capable of being understood similarly to a totalitarian symbol of the individuation process, proposed by Jung (s/d apud MIELIETINSKI, 1987), of the circularity of birth-development-decline-death-rebirth. However, faced not only by individuals from the 10th century of the Japanese nation, but also by the living subjects of the 21st century, thus justifying the re-updating of the myth within Studio Ghibli's animated adaptation of the 21st century. Self-esteem plays a significant role in an individual's healthy development. However, it is not uncommon for Chinese people to suffer from lower self-esteem. The cultural expectation of respect for and obedience to authorities often increases the challenges for Chinese people to achieve individuation. Subjectivity of being and the authenticity of a true self is ignored and even must be renounced in order to fit oneself into the cultural and societal system. What can psychotherapy do to enhance self-esteem? Psychoanalytic psychotherapy provides a way for individuation through enhancing realistic self-esteem. In the psychoanalytic and psychodynamic situation, patients' individuality is encouraged. Moreover, it provides a new relationship where ruptures can be dealt with for the purpose of personal growth. Self psychology will be the theoretical foundation for this paper to illustrate that enhancing realistic self-esteem can a be a maturational step for individuation in working with Chinese patients. Two cases are presented to illustrate how psychoanalytic psychotherapy can help with self-esteem. Both cases involve young Chinese people struggling with damaged self-esteem. In the first case, I will focus on how interpretations can help the patient gain insights and to encourage further exploration. What does it mean to teach philosophy today? This question occupies a central position in Bernard Stiegler's thinking and his practice. For Stiegler, to teach philosophy is to initiate, so that an individuation, or a quantum leap, could take place within and between the teacher and the participants. This article traces a mystagogical thinking in Stiegler's work, especially his reading of Plato and Simondon. This article examines how digital technology, especially social media platforms, shaped the risk of gender-based violence (GBV) in Zimbabwe during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Informed by the social identity model of deindividuation effects theory and based on both primary and secondary sources, it argues that the use of social media influenced GBV in Zimbabwe in both negative and positive ways. The study mainly found that positively, social media was used to raise awareness, report GBV cases, and mobilize social, financial, and emotional support, as well as sharing survival strategies by GBV survivors and those who support them. Negatively, the use of social media empowered online GBV perpetrators by awarding them anonymity. It also promoted and propagated multiple cases of GBV, and perpetuated gender inequality. Another negative effect is that social media was inaccessible to all victims of GBV. The article concludes that the relationship between social media and GBV remains strong and complex. Therefore, there is a need to strengthen the opportunities offered by social media platforms in the fight against GBV and end the Zimbabwean experience during COVID-19 whereby social media empowered the perpetrators at the expense of the victims. This article explores the involvement of interoception in the multisensorial experience "Seeing is believing" by Australian artist Eugenie Lee. At the center of this piece is the experience of pain in the absence of tissue damage. Through cognitive manipulation, immersive experience, and elucidation, the piece involves the physical, mental, and social levels of experience and dissolves a strict separation between them. The new phenomenologies of pain enabled here, I will argue, challenge our common conceptions of health and well-being through the experience of sensorial processes and processes of sense-making that we are usually unaware of and that do not fit the ideals of healthy bodies as whole, intentional, and secluded from the environment. I will use research from cognitive science on interoception as a lens to understand how "Seeing is believing" offers a counter-conception to the flexible, productive, and medicated body of liberal capitalism. And I will think this alternative further with Gilbert Simondon's concept of the metastable equilibrium to connect my study to the philosophical and media-theoretical discourse about individuation, our becoming of subjects. The purpose of this article is to critically and comprehensively approach Halbwachs' concept of Collective Memory, with the aim of recognising: i) the current relevance of this concept concerning contemporary social issues, where dominant and subaltern experiences and memories are combined within complex processes of individuation, transgenerational transmission and normative constitution of societies, ii) to compare the treatment of the concept of collective memory from the theorisations present in Halbwachs, Freud, and Canguilhem, to identify possible lines of discussion between these perspectives. We normally assume that there’s just one conscious individual per animal. Some question this, suggesting that there may be nonhuman taxonomic groups whose normal, adult members house more than one conscious subject. Call this the multitudes view (‘MV)’. Our aim is methodological: we hope to understand how we might assess whether MV is true. To that end, we distinguish two strategies for counting conscious subjects: the duplication strategy and the mind-first strategy. We use human split-brain patients and octopuses to illustrate the prospects and limitations of each approach, as some have argued that both sets of individuals contain multitudes. We’ll contend that while the duplication strategy is applicable to split-brain patients, it isn’t apt for octopuses. The mind-first strategy fairs better here, but there’s a catch: it requires, in a way the duplication strategy does not, numerous contentious assumptions about the nature of mentality, the individuation of minds, and consciousness to simply get off the ground.
