1. A Teacher's Guide to Technology-Based Self-Monitoring Strategies for Student Behavior

Abstract

Students with disabilities may demonstrate high rates of off-task behavior, resulting in poor academic achievement. To decrease students' off-task behavior, teachers can identify student-guided supportive strategies to limit the amount of time they dedicate to behavior management. Moreover, when teachers use effective student-guided strategies that reflect high social validity, ease of use, and low intrusiveness, benefits are maximized and students will maintain their use of the strategy. This article provides step-by-step procedures for designing a technology-based self-monitoring (TBSM) strategy that increases the acceptability and continued use of standard self-monitoring procedures. Necessary adjustments to typical self-monitoring strategies considering technology-based delivery methods, including selecting and evaluating mobile applications, are introduced.

14. The Effects of CellF-Monitoring on Students' Academic Engagement: A Technology-Based Self-Monitoring Intervention

Abstract

Students who are not academically engaged spend less time mastering material, are less likely to be successful in school, and are more likely to be disruptive. The purpose of the current brief report was to investigate the effects of a technology-based self-monitoring intervention on elementary students' academic engagement during independent work time. The intervention, CellF-Monitor, is an iPad application that allows individuals to self-rate their on-task behavior. In this multiple-baseline, single-case-design study, four nominated students used the CellF-Monitor during independent work time in their regular education classrooms. Systematic direct observations, self-ratings, and teachers' Direct Behavior Ratings of academically engaged and on-task behaviors were collected to measure students' behavioral changes from baseline to the intervention and reinforcement phases. Visual analyses illustrated positive effects of the CellF-Monitor on academic engagement and on-task behavior, and findings were augmented by effect size estimates.

33. Does Providing Transition Services by Age 14 Produce Better Vocational Outcomes for Students with Intellectual Disability?

Abstract

This study examined the potential impact providing transition services early had on the vocational outcomes achieved by young adults with intellectual disability. Two groups were compared: 7,520 individuals from states requiring transition services be addressed in individualized educational programs (IEPs) by age 14 and 7,520 individuals from states requiring transition services be addressed by age 16. Individual from both groups were matched based on seven demographic variables. Results found that, in each of the 4 years (2007-2009) examined, individuals from the early transition states were more likely to be employed by the time their cases were closed than their matched peers from the later transition states. Specifically, over this 4-year period, 58.8% of participants from the early transition states became employed compared with 45.6% for individuals from later transition states.

Abstract

Se documentó la sostenibilidad y el manejo de la cacería del venado de cola blanca (Odocoileus virginianus, Zimmermann, 1780) a partir de los restos arqueológicos localizados en Aguazuque (2725±35 A.P.-5025±40 A.P.). Se analizaron cambios en la proporción de animales de diferentes clases de edad, en la proporción de sexos y en las tallas. Se encontró cierta tendencia hacia la cosecha de individuos de las clases de edad adulto joven y adulto viejo. Se cazaron en la misma proporción tanto machos como hembras. No se halló evidencia de la reducción en la talla de los animales con el tiempo. Los resultados sugieren una tendencia al manejo de la cacería del venado de cola blanca en Aguazuque.

Abstract

This study determine the mechanical performance of a 40 mm thick overlay using UHPFRC (Ultra High-Performance Concrete) as the outer surface for restoring a flexible pavement structure. A 30 m long test section was built, divided into two 15 m sections. Section 1 was restored with a 60 mm overlay of Hot Mix Asphalt -HMAand Section 2 was restored with a 40 mm overlay of UHPFRC without intermediate transverse joins. The two sections were instrumented with pressure cells in order to evaluate the vertical load in the inner fiber of each restoration layer. The mechanical properties of the materials were evaluated, the structural modeling was carried out with the falling weight deflectometer (FWD) and the Bisar 3.0 software. The structural modeling showed an 82% increase in the lifecycle for the section restored with UHPFRC. The functional evaluation of the rehabilitated structures was carried out considering parameters as: friction, percentage of cracking, rutting, international roughness index -IRI- and smoothness.
