In the title compound, C22H20O5, the substituted benzene rings are twisted away from the furan ring, making dihedral angles of 54.91 (14) and 20.96 (15)° with the furan ring. The dihedral angle between the two benzene rings is 46.89 (13)°. One ethyl group of one ethoxycarbonyl unit is disordered over two sets of sites with occupancies of 0.56 (12) and 0.44 (12). In the crystal, weak intramolecular C—H...O hydrogen bonds link the molecules into chains along the c axis.

The title compound, C25H20N4·4H2O, crystallizes with the organic molecule lying on a twofold rotation axis through the methylene bridge C atom; there are also two water molecules in the asymmetric unit. The crystal structure is stabilized by C—H...O, O—H...O and O—H...N hydrogen bonds, linking the water molecules to each other and to the pyridine N atom.

Inorganic binder used in casting process has the advantages of low odor, labor-friendly conditions, and relatively low cost, which is one of the main development directions for casting molding materials in the future. However, compared to organic binders (such as resin binders), inorganic binders exhibit lower bonding strength and are more sensitive to environmental humidity. This sensitivity poses challenges, particularly in the reclamation of used sand, thus limiting their broader application. In this paper, the research and application status of inorganic binders (mainly silicate inorganic binders) and their curing methods are summarized. In addition, the research and application of phosphate inorganic binders and 3D printing inorganic binders that are being developed are introduced. Meanwhile, a detailed comparative analysis is conducted on the challenging issue of "reclamation for used sand" in the application of inorganic binders. To date, the therapeutic methods for ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke are still limited. The lack of oxygen supply is critical for brain injury following stroke. Hyperbaric oxygen (HBO), an approach through a process in which patients breathe in 100% pure oxygen at over 101 kPa, has been shown to facilitate oxygen delivery and increase oxygen supply. Hence, HBO possesses the potentials to produce beneficial effects on stroke. Actually, accumulated basic and clinical evidences have demonstrated that HBO therapy and preconditioning could induce neuroprotective functions via different mechanisms. Nevertheless, the lack of clinical translational study limits the application of HBO. More translational studies and clinical trials are needed in the future to develop effective HBO protocols. Abstract Background The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of different doses of ginsenoside Rb1 (GRb1) pretreatment on spinal cord ischemia-reperfusion (SCII) in rats and explore the potential mechanisms about the expression of survivin protein after the intervention. Methods A total of 90 healthy adult Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were randomly divided into six groups: sham-operated (n = 15), SCII model (n = 15), and GRb1-treated groups (n = 60). The GRb1-treated group was divided into four subgroups: 10 mg/kg, 20 mg/kg, 40 mg/kg, and 80 mg/kg (n = 15). The corresponding dose of GRb1 was injected intraperitoneally 30 min before operation and every day after operation. Forty-eight hours after model establishment, the neurological function of hind limbs was measured with Basso, Beattie, and Bresnahan (BBB) scale. The superoxide dismutase (SOD) and malondialdehyde (MDA) levels in serum and spinal cord tissue were detected respectively. The expression of survivin protein was observed by immunofluorescence staining. HE and TUNEL staining were used to observe neural cell injury and apoptosis, respectively, in the spinal cord of rats with SCII. Results The intervention of different doses of GRb1 could increase SOD activity and decrease MDA content in serum and spinal cord tissue, increase survivin protein expression, and decrease neuronal apoptosis. It was dose-dependent, but there was no significant change between 40 mg/kg and 80 mg/kg. Conclusions GRb1 could reduce the cell apoptosis induced by SCII through inhibiting oxidative stress. It can also inhibit apoptosis by promoting the expression of Survivin protein. Ginsenoside Rb1 had a dose-dependent protective effect on SCII in the dose range of 10 mg/kg–40 mg/kg.

The article presents the results of a study that examined the effectiveness of human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells transplantation in the spinal cord in promoting regeneration of axon and functional recovery after spinal cord injury using rat models. According to the authors, recovery of hindlimb locomotor function was improved after the transplantation and accompanied by increased length of neurofilament-positive fibers. They add that transplanted stem cells were able to survive and produce large amounts of neurotrophin-3 in the spinal cord.

A new fluorescent molecule clip derived from diethoxycarbonyl glycoluril with two 2,5-diphenyl-furan sidewalls was designed and synthesized. Its structure and conformation was confirmed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The dihedral angle between the imidazolone rings is 73.12 (3)°. Two symmetry-equivalent six-membered triazine rings are fused to the glycouril unit to form rigid side walls of a molecular clip. Background: The choroid plexuses, which could secrete a number of neurotrophins, have recently been used in transplantation in central nervous system diseases. Aims: To study the mechanism of nerve regeneration in the central nervous system by grafting choroid plexus tissues. Study Design: Animal experimentation. Methods: The choroid plexuses from the lateral ventricles of neonatal rats were cultured in adherent culture, and immunocytochemical methods were used to analyse the progenitor cells on days 2, 6, and 10 after seeding. Results: Expression of both nestin and glial fibrillary acidic protein was observed in small cell aggregates on day 2 in primary culture. Most of the nestin-positive cells on day 6 were immunoreactive to glial fibrillary acidic protein antibody. No cells expressing nestin or glial fibrillary acidic protein were seen on day 10. Conclusion: These experimental results indicate that the choroid plexus contains a specific cell population – progenitor cells. Under in vitro experimental conditions, the progenitor cells differentiated into choroid plexus epithelial cells but did not form neurons or astrocytes.

Hypersensitive C-reaction protein (hsCRP) may be a risk factor for cognitive impairment resulting from Alzheimer's disease (AD), stroke, and vascular dementia. This study explored the correlation of peripheral blood hsCRP level with cognitive decline due to high altitude exposure. The study was conducted on 100 male military participants who had never been to high altitude. Cerebral oxygen saturation monitoring, event related potentials (P300, N200) detection, and neurocognitive assessment was performed and total hsCRP, interleukin-6 (IL-6), and homocysteine was estimated at 500 m altitude, 3650 m altitude, 3 day, 1, and 3 month post arriving at the base camp (4400 m), and 1 month after coming back to the 500 m altitude. High altitude increased brain oxygen saturation, prolonged P300 and N200 latencies, injured cognitive functions, and raised plasma hsCRP levels. But they all recovered in varying degrees at 1 and 3 month post arriving at the base camp (4400 m). P300 latencies and hsCRP levels were strongly correlated to cognitive performances. These results suggested that cognitive deterioration occurred during the acute period of exposure to high altitude and may recover probably owning to acclimatization after extended stay at high altitude. Plasma hsCRP is inversely correlated to neurological cognition and it may be a potential biomarker for the prediction of high altitude induced cognitive dysfunction.
