A foreword to the March 2010 issue of "Architecture Australia" is presented.

The article discusses the role architects in reducing the climate change impact on the environment. This call for action includes a blueprint that essentially supports reduction of carbon emission targets up to 90%, design buildings to be carbon neutral in energy use and 30% reduction in emissions of existing buildings by 2020. The author contends that with cooperation from its international counterparts and other stakeholders, this call will feed into the climate change discussion in Copenhagen in December 2010.

The author discusses sustainable architecture and cities in Australia. According to a report, half of the world's population lives in cities since 2008 and the world urban population rises by about 1.2 million weekly. These are parts of the world defined as climate change vulnerable and include Australian cities. The author says that sustainability is a vital part of architecture and architects can help deal with the environmental challenge. She challenges city planning and wasteful building designs to move toward sustainable cities and architecture.
