The article reports on the National Library Legislative Day (NLLD) in Washington D.C. held on May 2, 2006. Library advocates representing 47 states attended the event. Illinois topped the attendance list with over 60 delegates. American Library Association President Michael Gorman talked about the responsibility of all the delegates. Unofficial word of the Nominating Committee's final selections got out at the Annual Conference of the ALA on June 24 to 29, 1989 in Dallas, Texas, where the candidates were overheard joking about a cost-effective single campaign button: Vote for Pat. American Libraries confirmed by phone that O'Brien, director of the Dallas Public Library, and Schuman, president of Neal-Schuman Publishers, have accepted the nominations but the Nominating Committee won't confirm until after the Executive Board gives approval at its fall meeting on November 1 to 2. The winner of the election, to be held in Spring 1990, will serve as vice-president/president-elect 1990-91. Petition candidates may file with the executive director of ALA up to four months before the next Annual Conference on June 23 to 28, 1990.

The author discusses the American Library Association (ALA) Haiti Library Relief Fund to support the reconstruction of Haitian libraries which was destroyed on January 12, 2012 in the Haiti earthquake.
