The only reason that the multinational Medium-Extended Air Defense System (Meads) program may be able to survive despite a lack of support from the U.S. Army is mainly due to the Pentagon's desire to publicly display support for international programs. The main reason for the Army's decision to scrap the Meads program is its escalating costs.
