Abstract

Research has been conducted on the chiral pilocarpine analogue. The synthesis of this analogue where the lactone ring is replaced by oxazolidinone and the bridging methylene group is in the ketone oxidation state has been carried out and the results are reported.

Abstract

A novel methodology for the synthesis of ketones from carboxylic acids was developed. Five cyclohexanecarboxylic esters exhibited a wide variation in the amounts of ketones generated. These differences were attributed to their ability to react with reagents and to form intermediates. However, employment of acyl hemiacetal derivatives resulted in the ready formation of the derivatives.
