BACKGROUND Blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasm (BPDCN) is a rare and highly aggressive hematopoietic malignancy. BPDCN is difficult to diagnose because of the overlap in morphologic and immunophenotypic features with various cutaneous lymphatic hematopoietic tumors. CASE SUMMARY We report on three BPDCN cases, all characterized by skin nodules and examined by histology, immunohistochemical detection, in situ hybridization for Epstein-Barr virus, and follow-up. We also review the relevant literature. All patients were positive for CD56 and negative for Epstein-Barr encoded small RNA. Two patients had bone marrow involvement. Chemotherapy is the main treatment for BPDCN, but case 1 showed bone marrow suppression and case 2 developed recurrence after chemotherapy. Case 1 survived for 7 mo, case 2 for 17 mo, and case 3 for 9 mo. CONCLUSION An accurate pathological diagnosis is a precondition for treatment, and the diagnosis of BPDCN should be based on a combination of clinical symptoms, pathological characteristics, immunophenotype, and other auxiliary examinations. It is necessary to clarify the clinicopathological features and biological behavior of BPDCN to improve its understanding by both clinicians and pathologists. Case 2 survived significantly longer than the other two cases, suggesting that the treatment received by case 2 was more effective.

Source engineering is an emerging technique to achieve steep-slope switching FET. To bridge the new carrier filtering mechanism and device performance, a multiscale simulation framework is presented in this article and is applied in Si nanowire (NW) cold source FET (CSFET). By the fit-parameter-free density functional theory (DFT) method, the key component of cold source (CS) design for broken-gap-like band alignment and high cold carrier injection is demonstrated. The novel device switching mechanism is also verified in the entire device scale with fully quantum atomistic tight-binding (TB) and nonequilibrium Green’s function (NEGF) methods. Although these tools are physics-based and accurate, the device scale is limited, and the computation burden is heavy. Thus, half-empirical TCAD simulation is suitable for device design and path-finding in realistic geometry. Key components of the CS and energy filtering effect can be verified by DFT-NEGF and TB-NEGF methods. Based on TCAD results, we implement a circuit-level benchmark for early stage path-finding. The results show that gate-all-around (GAA) Si NW CSFET is a potential candidate for low-power application, which enables supply voltage scaling.

BACKGROUND Hypertensive intracerebral hemorrhage is a common critical disease of the nervous system, comprising one fifth of all acute cerebrovascular diseases and has a high disability and mortality rate. It severely affects the patients’ quality of life. AIM To analyze the short-term effect and long-term prognosis of neuroendoscopic minimally invasive surgery for hypertensive intracerebral hemorrhage. METHODS From March 2018 to May 2020, 118 patients with hypertensive intracerebral hemorrhage were enrolled in our study and divided into a control group and observation group according to the surgical plan. The control group used a hard-channel minimally invasive puncture and drainage procedure. The observation group underwent minimally invasive neuroendoscopic surgery. The changes in the levels of serum P substances (SP), inflammatory factors [tumor necrosis factor-α, interleukin-6 (IL-6), IL-10], and the National Hospital Stroke Scale (NIHSS) and Barthel index scores were recorded. Surgery related indicators and prognosis were compared between the two groups. RESULTS The operation time (105.26 ± 28.35) of the observation group was min longer than that of the control group, and the volume of intraoperative bleeding was 45.36 ± 10.17 mL more than that of the control group. The hematoma clearance rates were 88.58% ± 4.69% and 94.47% ± 4.02% higher than those of the control group at 48 h and 72 h, respectively. Good prognosis rate (86.44%) was higher in the observation group than in the control group, and complication rate (5.08%) was not significantly different from that of the control group (P > 0.05).The SP level and Barthel index score of the two groups increased (P < 0.05) and the inflammatory factors and NIHSS score decreased (P < 0.05). The cytokine levels, NIHSS score, and Barthel index score were better in the observation group than in the control group (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION Neuroendoscopic minimally invasive surgery is more complicated than hard channel minimally invasive puncture drainage in the treatment of hypertensive intracerebral hemorrhage; however, hematoma clearance is more thorough, and the short-term effect and long-term prognosis are better than hard channel minimally invasive puncture drainage.

In online cheer and dance education, teacher needs to evaluate students’ performance manually based on their uploaded training videos. However, conventional training evaluation models suffer from the problems of strong subjection, low efficiency, low accuracy, and fuzzy training paths. To address these problems, we closely collaborate with domain experts and characterize requirements to design a comprehensive visualization system DanceVis, which has the characteristics of objective evaluation, fine-grained analysis, high efficiency, high accuracy and clear training paths, so as to track the dynamic changes of groups and individuals from coarse-to-fine granularity, the global-to-local dimension, and the time dimension. In terms of dimensional analysis, we divide the overall cheerleading dance performance of one student into nine dimensions, and these scores are calculated to a visual quantitative score that can replace the expert score. Simultaneously, we track the individual performance change through the dimension scores of in-class and after-class. In terms of group analysis, a nonlinear dimensionality reduction and clustering method is proposed to classify trainees and further build group portraits which help propose training paths for each group. In terms of individual analysis, we use human pose estimation method to automatically analyze videos, which improves the analysis efficiency, and obtains individual global performance curves. We invite experts to conduct with DanceVis, and demonstrate the usability of the system through expert interviews. The results show that DanceVis can fully make up for the shortcomings of existing training evaluation models, and greatly improve the efficiency and accuracy of online cheer and dance training.

The conversion of CO2 into CO, CH4 and other hydrocarbons through solar energy can alleviate the energy shortage problem. We design a novel photocatalyst with S defects CuIn5S8@MoSe2 hollow structure. The interlayer-expanded MoSe2 can increase the adsorption of intermediates. The unique hollow structure can improve the light utilization efficiency and the electron–holes separation. CuIn5S8 with S vacancies in bimetallic sites has high selectivity and photocatalytic reduction of CO2 activity. Therefore, S vacant CuIn5S8 confined in a few-layers MoSe2 with interlayer-expanded hollow heterostructures exhibit super performance for photocatalytic CO2 reduction. After 8-h light reaction, the outputs of CO and CH4 for the 15.3 wt% CuIn5S8@MoSe2 sample containing S vacancies (Vs) are 30.4 and 14.7 µmol·g−1, respectively. The mechanism is also investigated in detail through in situ Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy technology.

Previous studies have demonstrated that patients with schizophrenia (SZ) have greater rate of metabolic disorder as compared with the control population, which likely be the consequence of use of atypical antipsychotics. Olanzapine is a widely used antipsychotic, which increases the weight of SZ patients. However, the underlying mechanism remains poorly understood. Here we report the metabolomics-based understanding of the weight gain induced by olanzapine. 57 first-episode drug-naïve patients (FEDN) were recruited, of whom 27 patients completed a 4-week clinical trial. We then profiled the metabolomes of their plasma with the LC-MS-based nontargeted metabolomics approach at the baseline and after olanzapine monotherapy for 4 weeks. We observed that the plasma of the olanzapine-treated patient had significantly higher lysophosphatidylcholine (LysoPC), lysophosphatidylethanolamine (LysoPE) and lower carnitine as compared with that of the baseline plasma samples. Moreover, regression analyses indicated that the change of LysoPC(14:0) level was an independent contributor to the olanzapine-induced weight gain. Our study suggests that the metabolomics-based approach may facilitate the identification of biomarkers associated with the metabolic disorder causing by antipsychotic in schizophrenia patients.

BACKGROUND Cockayne syndrome (CS) is a rare inherited disease characterized by progressive motor symptoms including muscle weakness, joint contracture, ataxia, and spasticity. Botulinum neurotoxin type A has been used for conditions such as dystonia and spasticity, but it has rarely been used in patients with CS. CASE SUMMARY We report a 6-year-and-9-mo old girl diagnosed with CS who received an injection of botulinum neurotoxin type A to manage her difficulty with walking. A total dose of 210 units of botulinum neurotoxin type A was administered into the bilateral tibialis posterior and gastrocnemius muscles. To evaluate the treatment effects on spasticity, joint contracture, pain, and ataxia, measurement tools including the Modified Ashworth Scale, the passive range of motion, the Faces Pain Scale-Revised, and the Scale for the Assessment and Rating of Ataxia, were employed. The first week after the injection, the Modified Ashworth Scale score for the plantar flexors and foot invertors improved bilaterally, along with advancements in the passive range of motion of the bilateral ankles and a lower score for the Faces Pain Scale-Revised. These treatment effects persisted to the 8th week post-injection, but returned to baseline values at the 12th week post-injection, except for the pain scale. CONCLUSION Botulinum toxin injection can thus be considered as a treatment option for lower extremity spasticity, joint contracture, and pain derived from CS.

Due to melanoma is one of the skin cancers with the highest mortality rate and have a large amount of data during the collection and diagnosis, there is an urgent need to improve the diagnostic efficiency and accuracy. However, there remain problems in analyzing medical big data for skin lesion application, such as the intra-class variation and inter-class similarity in skin lesion images and the lacks of ability to focus on the lesion area affecting the classification results of the model. To address these dilemmas, in this paper, we proposed a novel machine learning-based approach that builds on top of DenseNet. It combines the attention mechanism and large margin loss to enhance the classification accuracy in terms of intra-class compactness and inter-class separability. We evaluated our model on ISIC 2017 (International Skin Imaging Collaboration) dataset, which has achieved 92% of Mean AUC. The experimental results show the effectiveness of our solution outperforms the state-of-the-art significantly in classify skin lesion and can accurately classify malignant melanoma on medical images.

This study aimed to evaluate the predictive potential of peri-treatment peripheral blood cells (PBC) in disease progression hazard in esophageal cancer following chemoradiotherapy.Patients and Methods: A total of 87 patients with primary esophageal squamous cell carcinoma were subjected to definitive concurrent chemoradiotherapy in a Phase II trial. PBC parameters (hemoglobin, neutrophils, platelets, lymphocytes, and monocytes) were collected at seven time points throughout the course of radiotherapy. The potential of peri-treatment PBC parameters to predict the 3-year cumulative hazard of tumor progression was evaluated.Results: Patients with disease progression displayed distinct distribution patterns of peri-treatment PBC compared to that in patients without disease progression. Greater prediction capabilities for risk of locoregional disease progression were found in PBC collected after the start of radiotherapy compared to those in their pretreatment counterparts, and in individual parameters rather than cell-to-cell ratios. The most predictive PBC parameters were integrated by summation and designated as a PBC score (PBCS), which further augmented their predictive power. Patients classified according to their PBCS (high vs medium v. low) had significantly different 3-year cumulative hazards of locoregional progression (58% vs 29% vs 7%, P = 0.0017). Multivariate analysis confirmed that high PBCS (HR, 12.2; 95% CI, 2.0– 76.3; P = 0.007) and medium (HR, 5.8; 95% CI 1.2– 27.7; P = 0.028) were independent indicators of locoregional progression.Conclusion: Systematic analysis of PBC distribution in esophageal cancer patients undergoing definitive chemoradiotherapy could help predict long-term locoregional progression hazard after treatment.Keywords: peripheral blood cell parameters, integration, discriminatory capacity, tumor control failure, esophageal squamous cell carcinoma, chemoradiotherapy

Starting from medical big data, this article uses data mining technology to analyze and study the pathogenic factors of lung cancer based on the lung cancer electronic medical record data from the oncology department of the authoritative third grade A hospital for many years. With respect to the processing of huge data from electronic medical records for lung cancer, traditional serial Apriori algorithm has the disadvantages of scanning database frequently, running slowly and consuming large amount of memory resources. Therefore, an improved Apriori algorithm based on MapReduce distributed computing model of Hadoop platform is proposed. The experimental cluster and lung cancer data mining experiments show that the improved Apriori algorithm has higher execution efficiency and good system scalability in dealing with lung cancer big data, and can well mine the relationship between lung cancer and pathogenic factors, which has important guiding significance for assisting the clinical diagnosis and risk prediction of lung cancer.

Background: Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disease characterized by progressive decline in cognitive function. Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is an important risk factor for AD. Glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) has been identified to be effective in T2DM treatment and neuroprotection. Objective: The present study investigated the neuroprotective effects and possible mechanisms of DAla2GIP-Glu-PAL, a novel long-lasting GIP analogue, in APP/PS1 AD mice. Methods: Multiple behavioral tests were performed to examine the cognitive function of mice. In vivo hippocampus late-phase long-term potentiation (L-LTP) was recorded to reflect synaptic plasticity. Immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence were used to examine the Aβ plaques and neuroinflammation in the brain. IL-1β, TNF-α, and cAMP/PKA/CREB signal molecules were also detected by ELISA or western blotting. Results: DAla2GIP-Glu-PAL increased recognition index (RI) of APP/PS1 mice in novel object recognition test, elevated spontaneous alternation percentage of APP/PS1 mice in Y maze test, and increased target quadrant swimming time of APP/PS1 mice in Morris water maze test. DAla2GIP-Glu-PAL treatment enhanced in vivo L-LTP of APP/PS1 mice. DAla2GIP-Glu-PAL significantly reduced Aβ deposition, inhibited astrocyte and microglia proliferation, and weakened IL-1β and TNF-α secretion. DAla2GIP-Glu-PAL also upregulated cAMP/PKA/CREB signal transduction and inhibited NF-κB activation in the hippocampus of APP/PS1 mice. Conclusion: DAla2GIP-Glu-PAL can improve cognitive behavior, synaptic plasticity, and central pathological damage in APP/PS1 mice, which might be associated with the inhibition of neuroinflammation, as well as upregulation of cAMP-/PKA/CREB signaling pathway. This study suggests a potential benefit of DAla2GIP-Glu-PAL in the treatment of AD.

In the code for design of steel structures, the effective length factor of the support and other web members of the steel trusses composed of double angle steel were taken as 1.0 and 0.8, respectively. However, the effective length factor of the support and other web members did not take into account factors such as the stiffness provided by non-adjacent members, the stiffness of the joint itself, and the influence of load changes in the code for design of steel structures. To consider the above influencing factors, a finite element model, based on the steel truss atlas, was established in Abaqus, the elastic restraint stiffness of the web member end was obtained through numerical analysis. The equation was established according to the restraints of the web member end, and the effective length factors of the web member were obtained by solving the equation with Matlab. The analysis found that the elastic restraint stiffness of the web member provided by the bottom chord would not increase by increasing the tension of the bottom chord within the range of elastic deformation. The elastic restraint stiffness of the web member provided by the top chord would not weak by increasing the pressure of the top chord within the range of elastic deformation. It was recommended that the effective length factors of the support and other web members of the steel truss should be 0.8 and 0.7, respectively.

This paper discussed the effect of different buried depth (B) of the twin-tunnels using scale experimental model and discrete element method (DEM). The diameter (D) of the twin-tunnels is 6.2 m, and the spacing between the two tunnels is 0.25 D. Five cosine functions are used to simulate the vibration load of the train passing through the first tunnel, which is very convenient to simulate the longitudinal movement of the train in two-dimensional DEM. In the 1/20 scale experimental model, self-made gypsum rings were used to simulate the tunnel liner, and the vibrator applied the train load. Surface uplift, the displacement and deflection of sleepers, as well as the displacement, velocity, acceleration and strain of the tunnel's liner and the surroundings are discussed with different buried depths twin-tunnels (0.5 D, 1.0 D, and 1.5 D). It is found that the buried depth of the tunnel will seriously affect the effect of train vibration on adjacent tunnels. The displacement, velocity, and acceleration in the vertical direction are much larger than the values in the horizontal direction. The deflection of sleepers during vibration will cause an unsafe run of the train in adjacent tunnel and pose risks to liner. It is suggested to build twin-tunnels with larger buried depth if the economy and technology requirements are satisfied. The research is expected to prove a reference for similar projects.

As a new product of high-value utilization of lignin, lignin micro/nano particles (LMNPs) have attracted the attention of researchers due to their non-toxicity, corrosion-resistance, UV resistance, and other excellent characteristics and potential application value. This article outlined the main preparation methods of LMNPs at the current stage, summarized and compared them from three perspectives of preparation technology, final product state and product composition. Subsequently, based on the different focuses of the properties of LMNPs, their application research progress as fillers, UV blockers, drug delivery carriers, among others, were introduced. Then a concise analysis of the technical and economic assessment and life cycle assessment of LMNPs in the process of industrialization was made. Finally, the main problems at present and the future development directions were analyzed and prospected to provide references for the deep processing of forest resources and the development of bio-based nanomaterials.

Background. The impact of postmastectomy radiotherapy (PMRT) in patients receiving neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) is unclear. The purpose of this study is to identify the patients who may benefit from PMRT. Methods. We retrospectively analysed patients with clinical stage II-III breast cancer who underwent NAC and modified radical mastectomy at our centre from 2007 to 2015. We investigated the relationship amongst locoregional recurrence rate (LRR), disease-free survival (DFS), and clinical pathological characters. Results. A total of 554 patients were analysed in this study. The median follow-up time was 65 months. Amongst the patients, 58 (10.5%) had locoregional recurrence, 138 (24.9%) had distant metastasis, and 72 (13.0%) patients died. The 5-year cumulative incidence of LRR and DFS was 9.2% and 74.2%, respectively. A total of 399 (72%) patients received PMRT and 155 (28%) did not. The 5-year LRR of the patients with PMRT (7.3% vs. 14.1%, P = 0.01 ) decreased significantly. We found that PMRT was an independent prognostic factor of LRR and DFS. Patients with the persistent involvement of 1–3 lymph nodes (ypN1) and more than 4 positive lymph nodes (ypN2-3) had a better outcome after PMRT than those without. However, the LRR and DFS of patients with negative lymph nodes at the time of surgery (ypN0) and who received PMRT showed no significant benefits. Amongst all patients with the three molecular subtypes of breast cancer, patients with triple-negative breast cancer had the highest pathological complete response rate but the worst prognosis ( P = 0.001 ). Conclusion. Results showed that PMRT significantly reduced the LRR of patients with clinical stage II-III breast cancer after receiving NAC and mastectomy. YpN0 patients derived no local control or survival benefit after receiving PMRT, whereas those with ypN1 and ypN2-3 could obviously benefit from PMRT.

Due to the physical characteristics that the magnetic dipole target signal (MDTS) decays with the third power of distance and the fact that the measured data contain usually environmental magnetic noise such as diurnal variation noise and cultural noise, it is very difficult to detect long-distance magnetic targets. In this paper, the complete ensemble empirical mode decomposition with adaptive noise (CEEMDAN) algorithm which is an improved version of empirical mode decomposition (EMD) algorithm and pattern recognition algorithm are combined to construct a novel magnetic target detection algorithm(CEEMDAN-PR). CEEMDAN algorithm can effectively decompose the measured magnetic signal into multiple intrinsic mode functions (IMFs), and reduce the aliasing effect between modes. Then, the pattern formed by the characteristics of magnetic dipole signal is used to match the signal reconstructed by the sum of several IMFs to obtain the optimal reconstructed signal. Some simulation tests illustrate that this algorithm has good detection performance.

A novel STING agonist, CDGSF, ipsilaterally modified with phosphorothioate and fluorine, was synthesized. The phosphorothioate in CDGSF might be a site for covalent conjugation. Injection of CDGSF generated an immunogenic ("hot") tumor microenvironment to suppress melanoma, more efficiently than dithio CDG. In particular, immunization with SARS-CoV-2 spike protein using CDGSF as an adjuvant elicited an exceptionally high antibody titer and a robust T cell response, overcoming the drawbacks of aluminum hydroxide. These results highlighted the therapeutic potential of CDGSF for cancer immunotherapy and the adjuvant potential of the STING agonist in the SARS-CoV-2 vaccine for the first time.

In this paper, we analyze the choice of interoperability approach for the provision of disaster management systems (DMS) when resources are distributed across districts and, in times of disaster, resources can be shared. The degree to which sharing (a spillover) can be coordinated efficiently depends on resource interoperability. In this public sector setting, we model the provisioning of DMS as the choice between interoperability approaches; in decreasing order of centralization they are integrated, unified, and federated. A unique feature of our setting is that the interoperability approach is a collective decision by districts. Districts choose their own DMS resources and interoperability effort, and face different interoperability efficiency and technology misfit costs depending on the interoperability approach. We find that any approach can be an equilibrium depending on interoperability efficiency, and that when the social optimum deviates from the equilibrium, the socially optimal approach is more centralized. When subsidies and taxes are implemented, the socially optimal interoperability approach can be achieved with budget balance. When only subsidies can be used, the socially optimal approach can be achieved but only under certain interoperability efficiency and misfit cost conditions is there a net social gain. Having an initial level of interoperability causes the equilibrium interoperability approach to shift toward a less centralized one. Our results generalize to other settings characterized by interoperability concerns, collective decisions, and spillovers.

Images created from measurements made by wireline microresistivity imaging tools have longitudinal gaps when the well circumference exceeds the total width of the pad-mounted electrode arrays. The gap size depends on the tool design and borehole size, and the null data in these gaps negatively affect the quantitative evaluation of reservoirs. Images with linear and texture features obtained from microresistivity image logs have distinct dual fabric features because of logging principles and various geological phenomena. Linear image features usually include phenomena such as fractures, bedding, and unconformities. Contrarily, texture-based image features usually indicate phenomena such as vugs and rock matrices. According to the characteristics of this fabric-based binary image structure and guided by the practice of geological interpretation, an adaptive inpainting method for the blank gaps in microresistivity image logs is proposed. For images with linear features, a sinusoidal tracking inpainting algorithm based on an evaluation of the validity and continuity of pixel sets is used. Contrarily, the most similar target transplantation algorithm is applied to texture-based images. The results obtained for measured electrical imaging data showed that the full borehole image obtained by the proposed method, whether it was a linear structural image reflecting fracture and bedding or texture-based image reflecting the matrix and pore of rock, had substantially good inpainting quality with enhanced visual connectivity. The proposed method was effective for inpainting electrical image logs with large gaps and high angle fractures with high heterogeneity. Moreover, ladder and block artifacts were rare, and the inpainting marks were not obvious. In addition, detailed full borehole images obtained by the proposed method will provide an essential basis for interpreting geological phenomena and reservoir parameters.

Background/Aims: Esophagogastric junction adenocarcinoma (EJA) is a malignant tumor associated with high morbidity and has attracted increasing attention due to a rising incidence and low survival rate. Pathological biopsy is the gold standard for diagnosis, but noninvasive and effective tests are lacking, resulting in diagnoses at advanced stages. This study explored the diagnostic value of insulin-like growth factor binding protein 7 (IGFBP7) in EJA. Methods: A total of 120 EJA patients and 88 normal controls were recruited, and their serum levels of IGFBP7 were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was used to assess the diagnostic value, and Pearson chi-square analysis was used to evaluate the correlation between IGFBP7 and clinical parameters. Kaplan-Meier survival analysis was carried out to assess the effect of IGFBP7 on overall survival (OS). Purpose: To observe the effects of cross-linked hyaluronic hydrogel on retina struct and intraocular biocompatibility in rabbits. Methods: the polymer-derived hyaluronic acid which was formed by UV light cross-linked with N-vinyl-pyrrolidone. Free hyaluronic acid levels were detected by spectrophotometric method. Vitrectomy was then performed in the rabbits, and then cross-linked hyaluronic acid hydrogels of different concentrations were injected. Intraocular pressure measurements, cornea check-up, and B-ultrasound examination were performed during the follow-up period. After six weeks’ follow-up, the rabbits were sacrificed, and both eyes were removed. The eyeballs were fixed for HE staining, and the polymer materials were observed under electron microscopy. Results: The synthetic hydrogel present a transparent substance with a refractive index similar to that of the human vitreous body, which also had sufficient viscosity and elasticity for intraocular usage by rheological measurements. The results of the free hyaluronic acid test showed that the hydrogel had little degrade within one month. The results of the histology, intraocular pressure, B-ultrasound and retinal ultrastructure suggested that cross-linked hyaluronic acid hydrogel had superior tissue biocompatibility intraocular for six weeks. Conclusions: Hyaluronic acid-based cross-linked biopolymers had good biocompatibility in rabbit, which also shown promising potential as vitreous substitutes in clinical practice.

Background Patients with isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH) mutant gliomas have better survival and appear to be more sensitive to chemotherapy than their IDH wild-type counterparts. We attempted to assess the correlations of vessel size imaging (VSI) values with IDH mutation status and patient survival in diffuse lower-grade glioma (LGG). Methods We enrolled 60 patients with diffuse LGGs, among which 43 had IDH-mutant tumors. All patients underwent VSI examination and VSI values for active tumors were calculated. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were established to evaluate the detection efficiency. Logistic regression was employed to determine the ability of variables to discriminate IDH mutational status. Kaplan-Meier survival analysis and Cox proportional hazards models were utilized to estimate the correlations of VSI values and other risk factors with patient survival. Results We observed that VSI values were lower in IDH-mutant LGGs than IDH wild-type LGGs. The VSImax and VSImean values had AUC values of 0.7305 and 0.7401, respectively, in distinguishing IDH-mutant LGGs from IDH wild-type LGGs. Logistic regression showed that VSImean values, age and tumor location were associated with IDH-mutant status, and the formula integrating the three factors had an AUC value of 0.7798 when distinguishing IDH-mutant LGGs from IDH wild-type LGGs. Moreover, LGG patients with high VSI values exhibited worse survival rates than those with low VSI values for both progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS). Multivariate Cox proportional hazards regression analysis suggested that IDH mutation status, VSImean values and multiple lesions or lobes were risk factors for PFS of LGG patients. Conclusion VSI value is associated with IDH genotype and maybe an independent predictor of the survival of patients with LGGs.

BACKGROUND Severe hyperlipemia (SHLE) has an impact on the results of many kinds of laboratory tests. Complete blood count (CBC) examination by automated blood cell counter (ABCC) is a quick and convenient measurement for screening abnormalities of blood cells that are triggered by various pathogenic insults in disease diagnosis and for monitoring changes in the treatment of existing hematological conditions. However, CBC results are frequently affected by many intrinsic and extrinsic factors from blood samples, such as in the setting of hypergammaglobulinemia and certain anticoagulants. SHLE could also affect CBC results. CASE SUMMARY A 33-year-old Chinese male presented with painful foot numbness and abdominal pain. He was initially misdiagnosed as having a myeloproliferative neoplasm (MPN) because of the marked abnormalities in CBC examination by the ABCC. Morphological evaluation of the bone marrow smears and biopsy showed no evidence of MPN. Gene mutations in Breakpoint cluster regions-Abelson murine leukemia viral oncogene homologue 1 (BCR-ABL1), Janus kinase 2 (JAK2), calreticulin (CALR), myeloproliferative leukemia virus (MPL), and colony-stimulating factor 3 receptor (CSF3R) were negative. Having noticed the thick chylomicron layer on blood samples and the dramatically fluctuating CBC results, we speculated that the fat droplets formed by shaking the blood samples in the setting of SHLE were mistakenly identified as blood cells due to the limited parameters of ABCC. Therefore, we removed a large part of the chylomicron layer and then reexamined the CBC, and the CBC results, as we expected, differed significantly from that of the sample before the chylomicron layer was removed. These significant differences had been validated by the subsequently repeated laboratory tests by measuring dual blood samples that the chylomicron layer was removed in one sample and was not in another, and comparing the CBC results. Computerized tomography reexamination of the upper abdomen revealed an exudative lesion surrounding his pancreas. After intensive consultation, definitive diagnosis was made as recurrent pancreatitis, hyperlipemia and pseudoerythrocytosis. CONCLUSION SHLE may become a potential cause of misdiagnosis of hyperlipemia-related diseases as MPNs and the resultant mistreatment. It may also lead to the misinterpretation of transfusion indications in patients with hematological disorders who critically need blood transfusion for supportive treatment.

The purpose of this study was to identify independent prognostic factors for breast cancer patients with T1–2 tumors and 1–3 positive lymph nodes, and discuss the role of postmastectomy radiotherapy(PMRT) in these patients. Between January 2005 and December 2015, the data on 840 eligible patients with breast cancer were retrospectively reviewed. Of these patients, 368 women received PMRT and 472 did not. The endpoints were locoregional recurrence (LRR) and distant metastasis (DM). With a median follow-up of 62.0 months, multivariate analysis identified the following independent risk factors for increased LRR: tumor size ≥ 4 cm (HR: 2.994, 95% CI: 1.190–7.535, P = 0.020), ER- and PR-negative tumor (HR: 2.540, 95% CI: 1.165–5.537, P = 0.019), preoperative high neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) (HR: 4.716, 95% CI: 1.776–12.528, P = 0.002)and low neutrophil-to-monocyte ratio (NMR) (HR: 0.231, 95% CI: 0.084–0.633, P = 0.004). And independent risk factors for increased DM: ER- and PR-negative tumor (HR: 2.540, 95% CI: 1.880–5.625, P = 0.000), high NLR (HR: 2.693, 95% CI: 1.426–5.084, P = 0.002) and low NMR (HR: 0.460, 95% CI: 0.257–0.824, P = 0.009). Lycopodii herba (SJC), a traditional Chinese medicine, has the effect of dispelling wind and eliminating dampness (a therapeutic principle and method of traditional Chinese medicine for rheumatoid arthritis), relaxing tendon and activating collaterals. However, the major effective components and its therapeutic mechanism were unclear. In this study, different SJC samples with slightly different compositions were prepared by extracting with different concentrations of ethanol. Then, the therapeutic effects on rheumatoid arthritis (RA) of different SJC samples were evaluated. Finally, the spectrum-effect relationship between UPLC-Q-TOF/MS fingerprints and the effect of RA was explored to screen the effective components. Western blotting was used to study the potential mechanism. The volume of hind paw and the level of RF, TNF-α, and IL-1β were lower after administrating with different SJC samples, compared with the model group. Histopathological findings also confirmed that SJC could relieve the symptoms of RA. Combined with identification of the components in plasm from SJC, lycojaponicumin C, des-N-methyl-α-obscurine, 8β-acetoxy-12β-hydroxy-lycopodine or 8β-acetoxy-11α-hydroxy-lycopodine or 8β-hydroxy-11α-acetoxylycopodine were considered to be the major effective components. The mechanism may be related to AChE/NF-κB signaling pathway. This work provides a general method to screen the potential effective components of herb medicines and would be benefit to understand the mechanism of SJC for the treatment of RA.

In order to improve the efficiency of emergency evacuation of subway passengers, the concept of ‘guide partition’ is put forward, and an intelligent algorithm of guide partition for emergency evacuation of subway stations is proposed according to the theory of allocation problem in operational research. First an evacuation partition optimization algorithm based on the shortest path principle and based on exit capacity for non-standard allocation problem is proposed, according to the solution of service facility allocation and site selection problem in operational research. Secondly, the passengers evacuation area is divided to partitioned evacuation zones. Combined with the advantages of cellular automata model, the evacuation simulation software of Building Exodus is used for simulation and comparison of the advantages of the proposed intelligent algorithm. Finally, the evacuation partition intelligent algorithm considering the exit capacity is applied to the Military Museum Station of Beijing subway to obtain the numbers and distribution of guiders on each floor. The results show that the proposed algorithm can help the subway station staff to better determine the number, location and influence range of each guider, and effectively improve the utilization rate of evacuation exits, reduce evacuation time and improve evacuation efficiency..

The estimation of the PM2.5 concentration based on satellite remote sensing is currently a hot topic for research, with machine learning algorithms starting to be applied to the estimation model. However, there are few comparisons between different machine learning algorithms, and few scholars objectively evaluate the estimation performance of machine learning algorithms under different weather conditions. In this study, PM2.5 concentration was estimated by six commonly used machine learning algorithms, and their performances were compared in four different weather conditions in the Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei (BTH) region. The results showed that decision tree and random forest consistently performed well in different weather conditions, while SVM performed poorly. When the PM2.5 concentration was greater than 150 μg/m3, the R and RMSE values for decision tree were 0.854 and 31.53 μg/m3, respectively, while the evaluation coefficient of SVM algorithm was only 0.597 and 49.31 μg/m3, it was worth noting that all algorithms performed better in this interval than in others. This study also focused on the development of an optimal combination algorithm to estimate PM2.5 concentration under different weather conditions and got a good application effect. The results of this research may provide a theoretical basis and an important reference for the application of machine learning algorithms in the field of remote sensing.

Gross tumor volume of esophagus (GTVe) was manually contoured on the CT images before treatment, at a twentieth fraction of radiotherapy, at completion of CRT and three months after treatment. GTVe reduction ratio (RR) was calculated to reveal changes of tumor volume by time. The Kaplan–Meier method was used to estimate survival and for univariate analysis. The Cox regression model was performed for multivariate analysis.Results: Predominant reduction of GTVe was observed during the first 20 fractions of radiotherapy. Age, pretreatment GTVe, GTVe three months after treatment and GTVe RR at twentieth fraction of radiotherapy were all significantly associated with overall survival (OS) in a univariate analysis. Gender was correlated with locoregional recurrence-free survival (LRRFS) in univariate analysis. Multivariate analysis showed that GTVe ≤ 20 cc, GTVe RR at twentieth fraction of radiotherapy ≥ 35% were positive predictive factors of OS and pretreatment GTVe ≤ 20 cc was prognostic for a favorable LRRFS.Conclusion: Pretreatment tumor volume and intratreatment volume reduction ratio are reliable prognostic factors for esophageal cancer treated with definitive CRT.Keywords: esophageal neoplasms, chemoradiotherapy, computed tomography, response evaluation, prognosis

The Faraday laser, with Faraday anomalous dispersion optical filter (FADOF) as frequency-selection element, is a natural narrow-bandwidth light source for laser physic experiments. In this work, a dual-frequency (DF) Faraday laser is demonstrated for the first time on Cs D2 line at 852 nm. The frequencies of the two modes of DF Faraday laser hinge on the peak transition frequencies of 852 nm FADOF transmittance spectrum corresponding to the ground state $F=4$ and $F=3$ . The frequency difference between the two modes is tunable over a range of 1.4 GHz with the temperature of Cs vapor cell inside the FADOF. The linewidth of each laser mode is less than 33 kHz. Furthermore, the most probable linewidth of the beat-note spectra between the two modes is 902.95 Hz at different vapor-cell temperatures. Such a DF Faraday laser has many potential applications in atomic physics, such as sub-Doppler spectroscopy and coherent population trapping atomic clocks.

Background To explore the cross-sectional and longitudinal associations between frailty and incident depressive symptoms in a Chinese elderly sample. Methods We analysed data of 1264 older Chinese elders aged 70-87 years in the Rugao Longevity and Ageing Study. The frailty phenotype was assessed using the Fried criteria and depression symptoms was measured by the Geriatric Depression Scale. Results At baseline, 10.6% of participants had depressive symptoms and 9.0% had frailty. In cross-sectional analysis, both pre-frailty (odds ratio (OR) = 2.18, 95% CI 1.35-3.51) and frailty (OR = 4.64, 95% CI 2.49-8.66) were associated with depressive symptoms. In longitudinal analyses, frailty (OR = 2.12, 95% CI 1.17-3.83), instead of pre-frailty, was associated with 1.5-year incident depressive symptoms in a full-adjusted model among participants free of baseline depressive symptoms. In the components of frailty, lower grip strength was associated with increased risk of depressive symptoms onset (OR = 1.56, 95% CI 1.06-2.29). Conclusions Frailty and lower grip strength were associated with incident depressive symptoms in a Chinese elderly sample. Interventions designed to prevent depressive symptoms may be useful by utilising physical aspects of the elderly population.

This study proposes an optimisation approach of high torque density with guaranteed anti-short-circuit performance for the dual redundant permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) in an aerospace application. The 10-pole/12-slot dual redundant PMSM with concentrated single-layer windings is firstly proposed, which can restrain the short-circuit current by the slot design to increase the phase inductance. Since the anti-short-circuit design may result in the torque density degradation of the dual redundant PMSM, the influence of the slot parameters on the torque performance of the dual redundant PMSM is thoroughly investigated, including the electromagnetic torque, braking torque, and no-load torque. Furthermore, the genetic algorithm-based optimisation method is proposed to maximise the torque density of the dual redundant PMSM, while the anti-short-circuit performance can also be guaranteed. Simulation and experimental results are conducted to verify the effectiveness of the proposed optimisation method.

In this article, a new type of reticulated joint, named the steel–concrete composite reticulated shell joint, is proposed. The proposed reticulated shell joint consists of an inner circular steel pipe, an outer circular steel pipe, a steel cover plate, and internal concrete. Five test specimens were tested under axial compression. The variable study included the wall thickness of the inner and outer circular steel pipes and the radius of the inner circular steel pipe. The test specimens exhibited a high bearing capacity and good plastic deformation ability under axial compression. The test results show that the wall thickness of the outer circular steel pipe and the radius of the inner circular steel pipe have a great influence on the bearing capacity of the steel–concrete composite reticulated shell joint, while the wall thickness of the inner circular steel pipe has little influence on the bearing capacity of the steel–concrete composite reticulated shell joint. Based on the test of the steel–concrete composite reticulated shell joints under axial load, the three-dimensional nonlinear finite element model was used to analyze the mechanical properties of the steel–concrete composite reticulated shell joints under axial compression. The results of the finite element analysis showed good agreement with the experimental results. The formula for calculating the bearing capacity of the joint is derived. By comparing with the experimental results, the calculated results are basically consistent with the experimental results.

Background Retinoblastoma (RB) is the most common intraocular malignancy in children. Long non-coding RNA X-inactive specific transcript (lncRNA XIST) has been reported to be associated with RB, but research on the mechanism of XIST is not well studied. Methods Expressions of XIST, microRNA-140-5p (miR-140-5p), and sex-determining region Y-related high-mobility group box 4 (SOX4) were analyzed by qRT-PCR or Western blot. Relationships of XIST, SOX4, and miR-140-5p were evaluated by dual-luciferase reporter assay and Spearman’s analysis. Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8) and Transwell assay were performed to assess the function of XIST on RB cell proliferation and invasion. Results In RB tissues, XIST and SOX4 expressions were obviously increased, but the miR-140-5p expression was markedly reduced. XIST expression was positively related to SOX4 expression while negatively correlated with miR-140-5p expression, and negative correlation was exhibited between miR-140-5p and SOX4 expression in RB tissues. XIST was confirmed to directly bind to miR-140-5p, and SOX4 was one target of miR-140-5p. XIST knockdown could impede RB cell proliferation and invasion, while miR-140-5p inhibition reversed the effects. In addition, XIST overexpression or miR-140-5p inhibition could abrogate the inhibition of SOX4 silencing on cell proliferation and invasion of RB cells. Conclusions XIST was obviously increased in RB tissues and cells, and XIST inhibition repressed the proliferation and invasion of RB cells by miR-140-5p/SOX4 axis, which may provide new understandings of the XIST molecular mechanism in RB.

The current study aimed to evaluate the clinical practice for hemodynamic tissue signature (HTS) method in IDH genotype prediction in three groups derived from high-grade gliomas. Preoperative MRI examinations of 44 patients with known grade and IDH genotype were assigned into three study groups: glioblastoma multiforme, grade III, and high-grade gliomas. Perfusion parameters were analyzed and were used to automatically draw the four reproducible habitats (high-angiogenic enhancing tumor habitats, low-angiogenic enhancing tumor habitats, infiltrated peripheral edema habitats, vasogenic peripheral edema habitats) related to vascular heterogeneity. These four habitats were then compared between inter-patient with IDH mutation and their wild-type counterparts at these three groups, respectively. The discriminating potential for HTS in assessing IDH mutation status prediction was assessed by ROC curves. Compared with IDH wild type, IDH mutation had significantly decreased relative cerebral blood volume (rCBV) at the high-angiogenic enhancing tumor habitats and low-angiogenic enhancing tumor habitats. ROC analysis revealed that the rCBVs in habitats had great ability to discriminate IDH mutation from their wild type in all groups. In addition, the Kaplan-Meier survival analysis yielded significant differences for the survival times observed from the populations dichotomized by low ( 4.31) rCBV in the low-angiogenic enhancing tumor habitat. The HTS method has been proven to have high prediction capabilities for IDH mutation status in high-grade glioma patients, providing a set of quantifiable habitats associated with tumor vascular heterogeneity. • The HTS method has a high accuracy for molecular stratification prediction for all subsets of HGG. • The HTS method can give IDH mutation–related hemodynamic information of tumor-infiltrated and vasogenic edema. • IDH-relevant rCBV difference in habitats will be a great prognosis factor in HGG.

Background Little is known about the influence of marital status on Chinese prostate cancer (PCa) patients. Marital status may have an impact on overall survival in Chinese men with prostate cancer. Methods We identified 4,208 Chinese patients diagnosed with PCa between 2004 and 2015 in the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database. Univariate and multivariate Cox proportional hazard models were used to determine the impact of marital status on the overall survival (OS) of Chinese PCa patients. Survival analysis was performed using the Kaplan-Meier method. Smoothing function and threshold effect analysis were performed to determine the turning points of variables. Results Univariate analysis demonstrated that marital status, prostate-specific antigen (PSA) category, surgery status, T stage, N stage, and M stage were associated with OS. Multivariate analysis further indicated that marital status, PSA category, surgery status, T stage, and M stage were independent risk factors of OS. Survival analysis demonstrated that the nonwidowed group had a better OS than the widowed group. The risk of poor OS increased rapidly with the PSA level up to the turning point 15.6 and 45.4 ng/mL in the nonwidowed group (HR =1.089; 95% CI: 1.064–1.115; P

BACKGROUND Cumulative evidence suggests that the aberrant immune responses in acquired aplastic anemia (AA) are sustained by active chronic infections in genetically susceptible individuals. Recently, the constant source to trigger and sustain the pathophysiology has been proposed to come from the altered gut microbiota and chronic intestinal inflammation. In this case, our serendipitous finding provides convincing evidence that the persistently dysregulated autoimmunity may be generated, at least in a significant proposition of AA patients, by the altered gut microbiota and compromised intestinal epithelium. CASE SUMMARY A 30-year-old Chinese male patient with refractory severe AA experienced a 3-month-long febrile episode, and his fever was refractory to many kinds of injected broad-spectrum antibiotics. When presenting with abdominal cramps, he was prescribed oral mannitol and gentamycin to get rid of the gut infection. This treatment resulted in a quick resolution of the fever. Unanticipatedly, it also produced an excellent hematological response. He had undergone three episodes of recurrence within the one-year treatment, with each recurrence occurring 7-8 wk from the gastrointestinal inflammation eliminating preparations. However, subsequent treatments were able to produce subsequent remissions and consecutive treatments were successful in achieving durative hematological improvements, strongly indicating an etiological association between chronic gut inflammation and the development of AA. Interestingly, comorbid diseases superimposed on this patient (namely, psychiatric disorders, hypertension, insulin resistance, and renal dysfunction) were ameliorated together with the hematological improvements. CONCLUSION Chronic gut inflammation may be responsible for AA pathogenesis. The comorbidities and AA may share a common etiological association.

The fast and diversified development of Internet services leads to numerous services with differentiated delay tolerance of optical connections set-up are converging in the optical network. Consequently, the average set-up delay of optical connection is increased, which will inevitably bring pressures to optical networks. To solve this problem, a delay aware routing spectrum assignment (RSA) algorithm based on services scheduling in priority queues with dynamic virtual topology construction (QVT-RSA) is proposed. First, the QVT-RSA algorithm reasonably identifies various different services and arranges them in order according to their priority, waiting time and delay tolerance requirements. Then, software defined networks (SDN) controller with multi-threads technology is adopted to innovatively parallel serve the ordered service requests to reduce the average set-up delay of optical connections, which also offset the induced delay caused by services scheduling. The network resource is accurately shared among multi-threads using the proposed mutual exclusive resource utilization model realized by dynamic virtual topology construction. The continuously coloring and usable virtual topology linkage reconfiguration can provide topology resources for service requests and adapt the dynamic transformation among serving, waiting and new arriving service requests. The shortest-path routing and first fit spectrum assignment (SPFF-RSA) algorithm is used as the baseline algorithm. Furthermore, by combining the SPFF-RSA algorithm and partial strategy of our strategy, the QSPFF-RSA and V-RSA algorithms are proposed as baseline algorithms as described in V-B. The simulation experiment results demonstrate that the average optical connections set-up delay of QVT-RSA algorithm is reduced compared with SPFF-RSA and QSPFF-RSA algorithms, and the blocking probability of QVT-RSA algorithm is reduced compared with SPFF-RSA, QSPFF-RSA and VRSA algorithms. The optical connections set-up success probability within delay tolerance about high, medium and low priority services of QVT-RSA algorithm is higher than that of the SPFF-RSA, QSPFF-RSA and VRSA algorithms.

Device operations of the monolayer molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) based FETs are analyzed using first principle atomistic simulations, revealing the similarity of device operation in monolayer and Si transistors. Taylor expansion is employed on Si potential modeling framework, assuming an ultra-thin (delta function like) channel for MoS2 devices. The method accurately reproduces the gate control of the MoS2 FETs in both long channel and short channel transistors including the subthreshold characteristics. First principle simulations verify the developed model, suggesting that the monolayer MoS2 MOSFET can be modeled by extending Si MOSFET equations with incorporating material parameters.

With XML becoming a promising standard for data storage, describing, transferring and exchanging information on the Internet, data security and privacy protection of XML become the focus of research in recent years. In order to achieve the authorization of legitimate user and ensure the secure access to sensitive information, in this paper, in the context of cloud storage, with the purpose of sharing sensitive XML information, a polynomial authorization scheme with Kerberos authentication was proposed, which was based on the users' access purpose and privacy policy. In this scheme, first, Kerberos authentication was used to identify the user, and then the polynomial whose coefficients were from the leaf node address was used to complete the authorization of user. For the legitimate user, under the interaction of authorization polynomials and the global structure view, authorization matrix is generated dynamically, its temporary and dynamic characteristics greatly improves the security of the system. Finally, with the help of authorization matrix and auxiliary information tables, security queries were successfully completed. The experimental results show that the scheme not only effectively protects XML sensitive data, but also reduces the server's storage pressure, at the same time it is beneficial to the rapid search and information positioning.

Computerized detection is a promising method for monitoring adverse drug events (ADEs); however, this method is currently in its infancy and is a new area of exploration in China. This study aimed to develop a computerized ADE alarm and assessment system to help pharmacists effectively detect, assess, and analyze possible ADEs in patients in China.Based on the clinical characteristics of these adverse drug events, we designed combined multiparameters as ADE alert rules to be assembled into detection configurations. We also developed system function modules by extracting data from the People's Liberation Army (PLA) general hospital information system (electronic medical records). Positive predictive values were calculated for the alert.Five function modules were created in this platform: automatic screening, assisted evaluation, risk characteristic analysis, report generation into SRS (spontaneous reporting system), and a dictionary database. Four ADE alert configurations were set in our ADE alarm and assessment system: drug-related thrombocytopenia, anemia, liver injury, and kidney injury. The positive predictive values of the 4 monitored ADEs were approximately 44.4% to 95.8%.An automatic ADE screening system was established for hospitalized patients in Chinese medical institutions. Compared with previous studies, combined drug-event alerts and a system-assisted assessment interface performed better than alerts based only on laboratory values. Furthermore, this platform's assisted-layered evaluation and risk factor analysis functions could save considerable time for professionals and improve early prevention of potentially serious ADEs. To date, this system has been applied in 10 large-scale medical institutions.

Aim This study aimed to determine whether serum ferritin (SF) is an independent risk factor of the incidence of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and rapid renal function decline (RFD) in male Tibetan patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Methods We performed a retrospective cohort study that included 191 male Tibetan patients with T2DM without CKD. Patients were divided into three groups according to the level of SF. Objective The prevalence of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) has been increasing worldwide, and the risk of infection has increased due to the use of immunosuppressive and biologic medications. Some of these infections can be prevented with vaccinations. The aim of this study was to evaluate the vaccination practices of Chinese gastroenterologists for patients with IBD. Methods Questionnaires based on quick response codes were sent using email and the WeChat platform to gastroenterologists at 20 hospitals in China. The vaccination practices of the gastroenterologists, including vaccinating for hepatitis B, hepatitis A, and varicella, were assessed. Results Of the 468 gastroenterologists who received the questionnaire, 307 (65.6%) completed it. Of the gastroenterologists who were most concerned about hepatitis B; 83.4% always or frequently asked about an infection history, 53.7% took an immunization history, and 73.6% tested patients for hepatitis B infection. However, few gastroenterologists did so for hepatitis A or varicella. The proportion of patients who were asked about an infection and immunization history and tested for varicella infection was 16.0%, 15.0%, and 9.4%, respectively. Only a few gastroenterologists recommended vaccination for patients without an infection before IBD medical treatment (26.7% for hepatitis A, 45.6% for hepatitis B, and 28% for varicella vaccination). Conclusion Vaccination practices for patients with IBD used by Chinese gastroenterologists vary greatly, suggesting that education about immunization is needed.

Controlling effective separation of carriers at the interface is a key element to realize highly efficient halogenated perovskite-based optoelectronic devices. Here, a comprehensive study of interfacial properties for CsPbBr3 nanocrystals (NCs)/graphene heterostructure is performed by the combination of theoretical and experimental methods. Enhanced visible light absorption is observed experimentally in the CsPbBr3 NCs/graphene heterostructure. The strong photoluminescence quenching phenomenon and improved photoresponse prove the efficient interfacial charge transfer from the perovskite CsPbBr3 NC layer to the graphene side. Significantly, theoretical calculations suggest that an intrinsic built-in electric field, pointing from graphene toward CsPbBr3, promotes the separation of photoinduced carriers at the CsPbBr3 NCs/graphene interface and simultaneously inhibits the recombination of electron-hole pairs. Thus, the high optoelectronic performance can be obtained in the CsPbBr3 NCs/graphene heterostructure, as shown in our experiment. Moreover, the CsPbBr3 NCs/graphene heterostructure exhibits smaller effective mass than that of CsPbBr3 NCs, indicating that the heterostructure does possess a high carrier mobility, which can further accelerate the separation of photogenerated carriers. Furthermore, the calculated results reveal that, accounting for the presence of the stronger built-in electric field, larger band bending value, and smaller effective mass, the PbBr2/graphene interface can realize the separation of the photoinduced carriers more effectively than the CsBr/graphene interface and thus more efficiently facilitate electron transfer from the perovskite optical absorber side to the graphene electronic transport side. Our findings provide valuable insight into perovskite/graphene-based photodetector devices via the interface engineering project.

This study aimed at investigating whether depression symptoms are associated with prevalent and incident physical frailty in Chinese older population. We analyzed data of 1168 older Chinese adults aged 70 and above in the aging arm of the Rugao Longevity and Aging Study (RuLAS). Depressive symptoms (Geriatric Depression Scale ≥ 6) were assessed by the Geriatric Depression Scale. Frailty was defined using Fried phenotype criteria at baseline and 3-year survey. At baseline, 8.9% of the participants had depression symptoms. The prevalence of pre-frailty and frailty were 34.5% and 5.9%, respectively. The percentages of depressive symptoms increase from robust (5.3%) to pre-frail (11.2%), and then to frail (31.9%) groups. After adjustments of multiple covariates, depressive symptoms were associated with both prevalent pre-frailty (OR = 1.75, 95% CI 1.08–2.84) and prevalent frailty (OR = 5.64, 95% CI 2.85–11.14) at baseline. At 3-year survey, 9.3% participants reported the development of frailty. After multiple adjustments, depressive symptoms were associated with a 2.79-fold (95% CI 1.09–7.10) increased risk of 3-year incident frailty. Depressive symptoms are associated with prevalent and incident frailty in Chinese older population. Together with the observations of the European populations, depressive symptoms may be a candidate risk factor of frailty.

Background:Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is an autosomal dominant hereditary disease characterised by left ventricular asymmetry hypertrophy. However, our knowledge of the genetic background in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy cases is limited. Here, we aimed to evaluate pathogenic gene mutations in a family with high-risk hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and analyse the genotype/phenotype relationships in this family.Methods:The proband, her parents, and her niece underwent whole-exome sequencing, and the genotypes of family members were identified using Sanger sequencing. mRNA expression was detected using reverse transcription sequencing. Structural impairments were predicted by homologous modelling. A family survey was conducted for patients with positive results to obtain information on general clinical symptoms, electrocardiography, ambulatory electrocardiography, echocardiography, and 3.0T cardiac magnetic resonance findings. Regular follow-up was performed for up to 6 months.Results:Five family members, including the proband, carried a cleavage site mutation in theMYBPC3gene (c.2737+1 (IVS26) G>T), causing exon 26 of theMYBPC3gene transcript to be skipped and leading to truncation of cardiac myosin-binding protein C. Family survey showed that the earliest onset age was 13 years old, and three people had died suddenly at less than 40 years old. Three pathogenic gene carriers were diagnosed with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, and all showed severe ventricular septal hypertrophy.Conclusion:The c.2737+1 (IVS26) G>T mutation in theMYBPC3gene led to exon 26 skipping, thereby affecting the structure and function of cardiac myosin-binding protein C and leading to severe ventricular hypertrophy and sudden death.
