Background: This study optimized the minimum detectable difference (MDD) of gamma camera SPECT images via the Taguchi analysis and an indigenous V-shaped slit gauge. The latter was customized to satisfy the Taguchi analysis’ quantitative requirements. Methods: The slit gauge MDD quantification of derived SPECT images was based on a pair of overlapped-peak profiles obtained from a tangent slice of the V-shaped slit with two adjacent peaks. Using the revised Student’s t-test with a multiplied constant, 1.96, the MDD was defined as the minimum distance between two peak centers, which deviation was large enough to ensure a 95% confidence level of their separation. In total, eighteen combinations of six gamma camera scanned factors (A-F), namely (A) collimator, (B) detector to target distance, (C) total counts, (D) acquired energy width, (E) Matrix size, and (F) zoom of collected ROI with each of two or three levels were organized into 18 groups to collect the slit gauge images according to Taguchi L18 orthogonal array. Next, three well-trained radiologists ranked the scanned gauge images to derive the fish-bone-plot of signal-to-noise ratio (S/N, dB) and correlated ANOVA. Results: The quantified MDD was proposed to verify the optimal suggestion of gamma camera scanned protocol, and obtained the MDD as 8.44, 7.88, and 7.40 mm for the 2nd group of the original L18, conventional, and optimal presets, respectively. Conclusions: The optimal preset of gamma camera was achieved according to Taguchi analysis. The MDD-based approach was found more beneficial in evaluating the spatial resolution than the line pair/cm approach in routine quality control in this study.

The minimum detectable difference (MDD) at various beats/min (BPM) of CT angiography (CTA) was evaluated using an oblique V-shape line gauge and poly methyl methacrylate (PMMA) phantom in this study. The customized phantom with the size of [Formula: see text][Formula: see text]cm3 was made from a 1[Formula: see text]cm-thick PMMA. The reciprocating mechanism in the phantom was run by a step motor with an eccentric gear connected to a crank rod to provide a stable harmonic motion, simulating the cardiac beats. The MDD has a unique feature in defining the quality characteristic of CT-scanned images and provides more information than simple line pair/cm in the previous studies. The derived MDD was quantified according to various BPM, and the CTA factor combination was preset following either the conventional recommendation or the optimal one. In doing so, the performance was substantiated by the Taguchi-based signal-to-noise ratio and integrated by another index, namely, figure of merit (FOM). The MDD and corresponding [Formula: see text] (dB) changed from [Formula: see text][Formula: see text]mm to [Formula: see text][Formula: see text]mm and from 16.7[Formula: see text]dB to 14.2[Formula: see text]dB, respectively, for conventional settings; while those obtained for the optimal preset changed from [Formula: see text][Formula: see text]mm to [Formula: see text][Formula: see text]mm and from 12.2 dB to 16.4 dB, respectively of CTA at 0–90 BPM. The integrated FOM values for conventional or optimal cases were 1240 and 1337, respectively. The MDD proved to be a useful technique in justifying the CTA-scanned images. For compliance with previous studies, MDD results can be converted to the line pair/cm results, but it is more informative than the quantized number of line pairs.

Background: Remdesivir, a nucleoside analogue antiviral drug developed for Ebola, is approved by the US Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of COVID-19. However, the findings of randomised controlled trials (RCTs) and observational studies vary regarding the effectiveness of remdesivir. We aimed to comprehensively review the available evidence identify the effectiveness and safety of remdesivir in patients with COVID-19.Methods: Seven databases (PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, Wanfang database, SinoMed, Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure and Chinese Science Journal Database) were searched for literatures published until November 2020.Following the PRISMA flow diagram, we included RCTs and prospective observational studies that reported the effectiveness and safety of remdesivir in patients with COVID-19. With extracting study details, as well as patient characteristics and outcomes, data were meta-analyzed by using Review Manager software version 5.4.1. Meta-analyses were conducted with fixed-effect model or random-effect model to calculate risk ratio (RR).Results: Four studies involving 2,279 patients were included in this meta-analysis. Compared with placebo, 10-day remdesivir was associated with significant increased clinical improvement on days 14 and 28 with RR 1.19 (95%CI 1.09-1.30) and RR 1.09 (95%CI 1.03-1.16). The clinical improvement of 5-day remdesivir was better than 10-day remdesivir on days 7 with RR 1.20 (95%CI 1.02-1.41), but the efficacy advantage of 5-day remdesivir disappeared on days 14 (RR 1.08; 95%CI 0.90-1.29). Remdesivir was associated with lower serious adverse events rates and grade 3 or 4 adverse events rates as compared with placebo with RR 0.75(95%CI 0.63-0.89) and RR 0.89(95%CI 0.80-0.99). Compared with 10-day remdesivir, 5-day remdesivir for patients with COVID-19 decreased the risk of serious adverse events rates and grade 3 or 4 adverse events rates with RR 0.65(95%CI 0.47-0.88) and RR 0.74 (95%CI 0.58-0.95). Conclusions: Our meta-analysis suggested that remdesivir would increase clinical improvement conditions and decrease serious adverse events on patients with COVID-19. 5-day remdesivir had the similar clinical effectiveness and mortality with 10-day remdesivir, and had lower serious adverse events rate. Comprehensive considering the cost and benefit, 5-day remdesivir may be a better therapeutic option if available medical resources are limited.

Smart Spring is a kind of active vibration control device based on piezoelectric material, which can effectively suppress the vibration of the shaft system in an over-critical state, and the selection of control strategy has great influence on the vibration reduction effect of the Smart Spring. In this paper, the authors investigate the control of the over-critical vibration of the transmission shaft system with Smart Spring, based on the ADAMS and MATLAB joint simulation method. Firstly, the joint simulation model of three-support shafting with Smart Spring is established, and the over-critical speed simulation analysis of the three-support shafting under the fixed control force of the Smart Spring is carried out. The simulation results show that the maximum vibration reduction rate is 71.6%. The accuracy of the joint simulation model is verified by the experiment of the three-support shafting subcritical vibration control. On this basis, a function control force vibration control strategy with time-varying control force is proposed. By analyzing the axis orbit of the shafting, the optimal fixed control force at different speeds is obtained, the control force function is determined by polynomial fitting, and the shafting critical crossing simulation under the function control force is carried out. The simulation results show that the displacement response of the shafting under the function control force is less than that under the fixed control force in the whole speed range.

Four-stage main helicopter transmission system occupies several strong points like good carrying capacity and is addressed by many scholars. However, the influence of variable parameters on natural characteristics in a three-engine helicopter, is not to be investigated, according to the limited published issues. Thus, in the study, a vibration model of the four-stage main helicopter transmission system is established through the lumped mass method. In the model, many factors, including time-varying meshing stiffness and torsional stiffness of gear shaft are considered. The differential equation of the system is solved via the Fourier method, 27-orders natural frequency and modal shape corresponded by each degree of freedom (DOF) of the system are obtained. The influence of the shaft torsional stiffness on the first five orders of the system natural frequency is studied. Besides, the impact of the matching relationship of key shafts’ torsional stiffness on the system stability is analyzed. These contributions would improve modification developments of four-stage deceleration helicopter in future.

The “thermal effect” of the green roof system on the pollutant dilution process would be analyzed in this research. Different arrangement schemes (on the rooftop, windward side and leeward side) of the green roof system would alter the thermal buoyancy distribution in the street canyon, thus change the overall flow field and pollutant dilution condition Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) technique along with the Renormalization Group (RNG) k-e turbulence model has been adopted for the simulation work. Cases without the green roof system are assumed to be uniformly heated and are prepared for benchmark comparisons. Six aspect ratios (H/W) and ten ranks of unstable thermal stratifications (Rb) are selected to consider the influence of street canyon morphology and thermal buoyancy. Results demonstrate that the lateral deployment of green roof system performs better than the rooftop deployment and the situations without green roof system. In the windward cooling cases, a single vortex is formed in the canyon center and dramatically reduces the pollutant retention time τ when H/W > 1, while in the leeward cooling cases, a “free airflow” region is formed in all the tested aspect ratios expect for H/W = 0.5. The rooftop deployment scheme has negative effects, not just decaying ventilation performance, but also delaying pollutant dispersion period. Present research could benefit the rational design of the green roof system in the urban building clusters, and further enhance its cooling capacity for the built energy conservation.

Purpose: The root of Cynanchum auriculatum Royle ex Wight, known as Baishouwu, has been widely used for a tonic supplement since ancient times. The current study was performed to explore the effect of Baishouwu extract on the development of experimental hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and the potential mechanism involved. Methods: Rats were injected diethylnitrosamine (DEN) to initiate the multistep hepatocarcinogenesis. Animals were treated concurrently with Baishouwu extract given daily by oral gavage for 20 weeks to evaluate its protective effects. Time series sera and organ samples from each group were collected to evaluate the effect of Baishouwu extract on hepatic carcinogenesis. Results: It was found that Baishouwu extract pretreatment successfully attenuated liver injury induced by DEN, as shown by decreased levels of serum biochemical indicators (AST, ALT, ALP, TP, and T-BIL). Administration of Baishouwu extract inhibited the fibrosis-related index in serum and live tissue, respectively from inflammation stage to HCC stage after DEN treatment. It significantly reduced the incidence and multiplicity of DEN-induced HCC development in a dose-dependent manner. Macroscopic and microscopic features suggested that pretreatment with Baishouwu extract for 20 weeks was effective in inhibiting DEN-induced inflammation, liver fibrosis, and HCC. Furthermore, TLR4 overexpression induced by DEN was decreased by Baishouwu extract, leading to the markedly down-regulated levels of MyD88, TRAF6, NF-κB p65, TGF-β1 and α-SMA in hepatitis, cirrhosis, and hepatocarcinoma. Conclusion: In conclusion, Baishouwu extract exhibited potent effect on the development of HCC by altering TLR4/MyD88/ NF-κB signaling pathway in the sequence of hepatic inflammation-fibrosis-cancer, which provided novel insights into the mechanism of Baishouwu extract as a candidate for the pretreatment of HCC in the future.

This paper proposes an IoT-based intelligent hydroponic plant factory solution called PlantTalk. The novelty of our approach is that the PlantTalk intelligence can be built through an arbitrary smartphone. We show that PlantTalk can flexibly configure the connections of various plant sensors and actuators through a smartphone. One can also conveniently write Python programs for plant-care intelligence through the smart phone. The developed plant-care intelligence includes automatic LED lighting, water spray, water pump and so on. As an example, we show that the PlantTalk intelligence effectively lowers the CO2 concentration, and the reduction speed is 53% faster than a traditional plant system. PlantTalk has been extended for a plant factory called AgriTalk.

Attention mechanism has been proved to be able to improve the quality of neural machine translation by selectively focusing on partial words of a source sentence during translation process. Attention mechanism usually focuses on local attention by using solely the linear index distance of words while ignores syntax structures of sentences. In this paper, we extend local attention through syntax distance constraint, and propose an attention mechanism based on a new syntactic branch distance, which simultaneously pays attention to words with similar linear index distances and syntax-related words. Based on the English-to-German translation task, experiment results showed that our model outperforms a recent baseline method with an improvement of 1.61 BLEU points, demonstrating the effectiveness of the proposed model.

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) first emerged in December 2019 in Wuhan, China, and has since spread rapidly worldwide. As researchers seek to learn more about COVID-19, the disease it causes, this novel virus continues to infect and kill. Despite the socioeconomic impacts of SARS-CoV-2 infections and likelihood of future outbreaks of other pathogenic coronaviruses, options to prevent or treat coronavirus infections remain limited. In current clinical trials, potential coronavirus treatments focusing on killing the virus or on preventing infection using vaccines largely ignore the host immune response. The relatively small body of current research on the virus indicates pathological responses by the immune system as the leading cause for much of the morbidity and mortality caused by COVID-19. In this review, we investigated the host innate and adaptive immune responses against COVID-19, collated information on recent COVID-19 experimental data, and summarized the systemic immune responses to and histopathology of SARS-CoV-2 infection. Finally, we summarized the immune-related biomarkers to define patients with high-risk and worst-case outcomes, and identified the possible usefulness of inflammatory markers as potential immunotherapeutic targets. This review provides an overview of current knowledge on COVID-19 and the symptomatological differences between healthy, convalescent, and severe cohorts, while offering research directions for alternative immunoregulation therapeutic targets.

Broadcast is an important operation in Cognitive Radio Networks (CRNs). How to achieve broadcast in an energy-efficient way is important since users in CRNs are usually battery-powered. Existing single-channel broadcast mechanisms are not suitable for CRNs because multiple channels can be used in a CRN. Most existing multi-channel broadcast schemes rely on a common control channel (CCC) to support broadcast. However, finding such a CCC in a CRN is difficult because an unlicensed user's available channels are changed over time and space. In this paper, we focus on an environment where no broadcast structure or CCC is established in advance while a node is equipped with one CR transceiver and does not aware of the locations and distances to other nodes. We have defined the one-hop Minimum Multichannel Set Cover (MMSC) problem and the multi-hop Minimum Cost Broadcast (MCB) problem in such an environment. Both problems are NP-hard and we have proposed a heuristic solution, the Energy-Efficient Broadcast (EEB) protocol, to solve them. Considering the uncertain primary user occupancy issue, the EEB protocol features a distributed solution that uses only local information. Simulation results verify that EEB effectively reduces energy consumption and achieves high packet delivery ratio.

The CT scan protocol optimization for peripheral arterial occlusive disease (PAOD) syndrome was performed by organizing seven CT factors [kVp, mAs, pitch, field of view (FOV) (mm), time of rotation (s), slice thickness (mm), and matrix size] into Taguchi unique [Formula: see text] orthogonal array. The minimum detectable difference (MDD) in the optimizing process was quantified by adopting a customized line group gauge. Besides, three qualified experts in radiology examined by the double-blind criterion the gauge scanned images and ranked them, yielding the optimal setting of CT scan protocols. The latter setting for PAOD included the kVp of 100, mAs of 240, pitch of 0.513, FOV of 320[Formula: see text]mm, rotation time of 0.75[Formula: see text]s, slice thickness of 4.0, and matrix size of [Formula: see text]. The ANOVA and revised Student’s [Formula: see text]-test verified the smallest MDD as 1.43[Formula: see text]mm at a 0.45-mm gauge depth. The ranking process, which makes it possible to magnify and emphasize the imaging correlation among groups, was found to be preferable to grading in the optimization process. The comparative analysis of various MDDs obtained from different medical facilities and literary sources was performed, which revealed that the cardiac X-ray provided the finest spatial resolution according to the quantified MDD. Meanwhile, the CT scan protocol for PAOD adopted in this study had finer MDD than that for the abdomen due to comparatively low kVp or/and mAs.

Introduction Low body weight in Parkinson's disease (PD) is poorly understood despite the associated risks of malnutrition, fractures, and death. Sarcopenia (loss of muscle bulk and strength) and frailty are geriatric syndromes that are likewise associated with adverse health outcomes, yet have received scant attention in PD. We studied body composition, sarcopenia, frailty, and their clinico-biological correlates in PD. Methods 93 patients and 78 spousal/sibling controls underwent comprehensive assessment of diet, clinical status, muscle strength/performance, frailty, body composition (using dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry), and serum levels of neurogastrointestinal hormones and inflammatory markers. Results PD patients were older than controls (66.0 ± 8.5 vs. 62.4 ± 8.4years, P = 0.003). Mean body mass index (24.0 ± 0.4 vs. 25.6 ± 0.5kg/m2, Padjusted = 0.016), fat mass index (7.4 ± 0.3 vs. 9.0 ± 0.3kg/m2, Padjusted Conclusions We found reduced body fat with relatively preserved skeletal muscle mass, and a high prevalence of frailty, in PD. Further studies are needed to understand the patho-mechanisms underlying these alterations.

This paper presents a new approach for obstacle avoidance of small mobile robots, which combine the position sensitive detector (PSD) with digital compass. It is important for an autonomous robot to explore its surroundings in performing the task of localization and navigation for searching. Because of the complexity of the environment, one simple kind of sensors is not sufficient for robot to accomplish these tasks. In this paper, the small mobile robots are enabled to identify barriers and distinguish surroundings by using the angle signal from the digital compass which is generally mounted on the robot. Experimental results indicate that this approach based on digital compass shows great potential in autonomous robot obstacle avoidance.

With the development of automobile industry, more and more people need automotive information. Meanwhile, there’s a great deal of network information which makes people gather information hard. To make people acquire the automotive information more efficiently, an Automotive News Push System is desperately needed. A distributed focused crawler is proposed for the system to assure that the information is accurate and timely. In this paper, distributed system framework and webpage classification are analyzed. Experimental results show that the frameworkare effective, the accuracy and efficiency of crawling are both improved.

With the arrival of the era of 3G mobile communications, people need not only to meet the call, SMS service, and begin to pursue more realistic visual and interactive experience. The paper developed the virtual campus roaming system of the Wuhan University of Technology for the Android platform based on the Baidu map of the mobile version of the API (Android) and OpenGL ES development tools. Users may select the Campus location of Wuhan University of Technology in the Android mobile phone and can query the campus road, the corresponding function architecture position and 3D virtual scene graph; at the same time they can accept the new information campus. The system of design cannot only provide users with a conventional mobile map services, but also show their location of the 3D scene graph. It is more intuitive to display location information, enhance the campus scenery and culture readability.

Background: The 7 th TNM staging is the first authoritative standard for evaluation of effectiveness of treatment of gastric cancer worldwide. However, revision of pN classification within TNM needs to be discussed. In particular, the N3 sub-stage is becoming more conspicuous. Methods: Clinical data of 302 pN3M0 stage gastric cancer patients who received radical gastrectomy in Tianjin Medical University Cancer Institute and Hospital from January 2001 to May 2006 were retrospectively analyzed. Results: Location of tumor, depth of invasion, extranodal metastasis, gastric resection, combined organs resection, lymph node metastasis, rate of lymph node metastasis, negative lymph nodes count were important prognostic factors of pN3M0 stage gastric cancers. TNM stage was also associated with prognosis. Patients at T2N3M0 stage had a better prognosis than other sub-classification. T3N3M0 and T4aN3aM0 patients had equal prognosis which followed the T2N3M0. T4aN3bM0 and T4bN3aM0 had lower survival rate than the formers. T4bN3bM0 had worst prognosis. In multivariate analysis, TNM stage group and rate of lymph node metastasis were independent prognostic factors. Conclusions: The sub-stage of N3 may be useful for more accurate prediction of prognosis; it should therefore be applied in the TNM stage system.

Background Gualou Xiebai Decoction (GXD) is a well-known traditional Chinese recipe. It has been used to treat cardiovascular disorders for nearly two thousand years. But there is a lack of reports on cardiac fibrosis and underlying mechanism. Methods Myocardial infarction was performed by ligation of left anterior descending coronary artery (LAD) in male Wistar rats. Rats with myocardial infarction were treated with GXD (1.14 g/kg, 4.53 g/kg) daily for 4 weeks. Cardiac function was evaluated by echocardiography. Hemodynamic parameters and infarct size were measured in each group. Myocardial enzymes were examined by biochemical tests. Inflammatory cytokines were assessed by ELISA, and interrelated proteins were detected by western blot. Results Cardiac function was significantly improved in GXD-treatment rats after myocardial infarction (MI), which was accompanied with decreased infarct size. Administration of GXD to myocardial fibrosis rats significantly ameliorated the activities of AST, LDH and CK-MB in serum. The increase in inflammatory factors (TNF-α, IL-1β) were markedly reduced upon GXD treatment. Furthermore, the inflammatory mediators (NF-κB p65, TNF-α, MCP-1) were down-regulated by GXD in the myocardial fibrosis rats. Conclusions Treatment with GXD improved cardiac function induced by myocardial fibrosis by inhibiting expression of inflammatory mediators associated with NF-κB.

Crop monitoring play an important role in the management of agricultural production. This paper presents an integrated platform of crop condition monitoring and diagnosis based on internet of things, as well as its structure and function design. The platform adopted the technology of the internet of things; it achieved fine management of seed and cultivates process by the means of agriculture information real-time collection and monitoring. The platform has certain application value in many agriculture activities, such as livestock management, aquaculture and other and so on.

In order to process the hardened face-gear, the worm for face-gear is studied. The research includes designing and dressing method of worm. According to the meshing relationship of face-gear, worm and shaper, coordinate systems of face-gear, worm and shaper are established. By envelope theory, the face-gear tooth surface are obtained, worm tooth surface and shaper tooth surface. The solid models of face-gear, worm and shaper were built, and the approach of dressing was simulated for hardened face-gear processed.

The nonlinear torsional vibration model of a two-stage planetary gear system is established taking errors of transmission, time varying meshing stiffness and multiple gear backlashes into account. The solution of the equations is determined by using ODE45. The influences of transmission errors on the load sharing behavior are assessed and some useful theoretical guidelines for the design of planetary gear systems are provided at last.

In order to process the hardened face-gear, and improve the surface’s accuracy, the grinding process of face gear is studied. According to the equation of tooth surface, the tooth surface is drawn by a series of space curve, the contact point’s trajectory and velocity at the processing of grinding are determined in three coordinate directions. The model of grinding machine is set up, and analyses the movement of relationship between tool and face-gear. The simple grinding wheel apply complex movement to grinding process the face-gear is successful.

Active control landing gears are used to alleviate vibration during aircraft taxiing. A nonlinear stochastic dynamics model is established, considering the aircraft body pitch movement and elastic vibration excited by the random runway. The equivalent linearization method is adopted to ensure the model linearity near the balance point, and the Gaussian random process of the runway is generated from the Gaussian white noise using a shape filter. Based on the stochastic optimal control theory, the LQG controller is designed along with weighted quadratic performance index for a better ride comfort, shock absorption, road holding and least energy expenditure. The algebraic Riccati and Lyapunov equations are solved to obtain stationary response while taxiing aircraft at a constant velocity and the differential Riccati and Lyapunov equations are solved to obtain the nonstationary response while taxiing aircraft at a variable velocity. The aircraft dynamic responses are obtained through the runway random process modeled by Monte Carlo method. Simulation results show that active control landing gear can give a better ride comfort, shock absorption and road holding performance no matter whether taxiing is at constant or variable velocity.

According to the theory of planet gear drive and the actual design requirements of ship reducer, the mathematical model of optimization for power distributional planet gear drive is set up, the optimization design variables, the optimization objective function and the restraint conditions are definited. On the base of the establishment of three hierarchical optimization method, to take advantage of its powerful optimization toolbox in Matlab, combine the basic algorithm of optimization design, optimize respectively power distributional planet gear drive from three single-objective optimization for the lightest weight, the smallest center distance, most efficient and from one multi-objective optimization of the lightest weight and smallest center distance. The optimal results showed that ship reducer weight could be further reduced.

Iodinated contrast media (iodinated CM) have increased ability to absorb x-rays and to visualize structures that normally are impossible to observe in a radiological examination. The use of iodinated CM may destory renal function, commonly known as contrast-induced nephropathy (CIN), which can result in acute renal failure (ARF). This review article mainly focuses on the following areas: (1) classifications of iodinated CM: ionic or non-ionic, high-osmolarity contrast media (HOCM), low-osmolarity contrast media (LOCM) and iso-osmolarity contrast media (IOCM); (2) an introduction to the physical and chemical properties of the non-ionic iodinated CM; (3) the management of anaphylactic reaction by iodinated CM; (4) a suggested single injection of adult doses and maximum dose for non-ionic iodinated CM; (5) the molecular mechanism of contrast-induced nephropathy (CIN); (6) In vitro studies on iodinated CM. Based on above information, this review article provide an insight for understanding the drug safety of iodinated CM.

Because rigidity of either hub or rim of diaphragm coupling is much greater than that of the disk, and asymmetrical bending is under the condition of high speed revolution, an assumption is made that each circle in the middle plane before deformation keeps its radius unchanged after deformation, but the plane on which the circle lies has a varying deflecting angle. Based on this assumption, and according to the principle of energy variation, the corresponding Euler’s equation can be obtained, which has the primary integral. By neglecting some subsidiary factors, an analytic solution is obtained. Applying these formulas to a hyperbolic model of diaphragm, the results show that the octahedral shear stress varies less along either radial or thickness direction, but fluctuates greatly and periodically along circumferential direction. Thus asymmetrical bending significantly affects the material’s fatigue.

Our previous research has shown that seeding amniotic epithelial cells (AECs) in chemically extracted acellular muscle scaffold (CEAMC) better promotes the functional recovery of spinal cord injury (SCI) than scaffold alone. However, the massive death of transplanted cells, which is related to early inflammatory response, is still a problem in cell therapy. Our previous study proved that nordihydroguaiaretic acid (NDGA) inhibits inflammation after SCI. In this study, we tested a strategy of combining the early administration of NDGA and the transplantation of AEC-seeded CEAMC to treat SCI. The results showed that simply increasing the number of surviving AECs had no significant benefits in SCI therapy, but NDGA administration ameliorated transplanted AEC survival demonstrating the potential value of NDGA in the cellular transplantation treatment of SCI.

Behcet's disease (BD) accompanied by intestinal involvement is called intestinal BD. Although recent studies have attained positive feedback with the administration of anti-TNF-α agents in patients with BD, only a few reports on the study of etanercept in intestinal BD have been found. In this study, 35 cases of intestinal BD were treated with conventional therapy (prednisone or methotrexate) for a minimum period of 3 months (group 1). Another 19 patients who failed to respond to conventional therapy were then treated with etanercept (25 mg twice a week for 3 months). During each subsequent relapse, the patients were given the same treatment. The main outcome measures were the four criteria for diagnosis of BD (buccal ulcers, genital ulcers, ocular lesions, and skin lesions), the manifestation of intestinal involvement (abdominal symptoms, double-balloon enteroscopy), laboratory examinations of the acute phase reactants (erythrocyte sedimentation rate) and C-reactive protein, and relapses. As a result of the administered therapy, the healing rate of buccal and genital ulcers, the remission rate of ocular lesions, skin lesions, and abdominal symptoms, the healing rate of intestinal ulcers, and the recovery rate of ESR and CRP were significantly higher in group 2 than those of group 1. The relapse rate in the etanercept therapy was reduced significantly when compared with conventional therapy group. In conclusion, etanercept treatment, in contrast to the conventional therapy, can result in better curative effect and less adverse reactions in intestinal BD.

AIM: To investigate the impact of prognostic nutritional index (PNI) on the postoperative complications and long-term outcomes in gastric cancer patients undergoing total gastrectomy. METHODS: The data for 386 patients with gastric cancer were extracted and analyzed between January 2003 and December 2008 in our center. The patients were divided into two groups according to the cutoff value of the PNI: those with a PNI ≥ 46 and those with a PNI < 46. Clinicopathological features were compared between the two groups and potential prognostic factors were analyzed. The relationship between postoperative complications and PNI was analyzed by logistic regression. The univariate and multivariate hazard ratios were calculated using the Cox proportional hazard model. RESULTS: The optimal cutoff value of the PNI was set at 46, and patients with a PNI ≥ 46 and those with a PNI < 46 were classified into PNI-high and PNI-low groups, respectively. Patients in the PNI-low group were more likely to have advanced tumor (T), node (N), and TNM stages than patients in the PNI-high group. The low PNI is an independent risk factor for the incidence of postoperative complications (OR = 2.223). The 5-year overall survival (OS) rates were 54.1% and 21.1% for patients with a PNI ≥ 46 and those with a PNI < 46, respectively. The OS rates were significantly lower in the PNI-low group than in the PNI-high group among patients with stages II (P = 0.001) and III (P < 0.001) disease. CONCLUSION: The PNI is a simple and useful marker not only to identify patients at increased risk for postoperative complications, but also to predict long-term survival after total gastrectomy. The PNI should be included in the routine assessment of advanced gastric cancer patients.

To investigate the effects of extended lymphadenectomy and postoperative chemotherapy on gastric cancer without lymph node metastasis.Clinical data of 311 node-negative gastric cancer patients who underwent potentially curative gastrectomy with more than 15 lymph nodes resected, from January 2002 to December 2006, were analyzed retrospectively. Patients with pT4 stage or distant metastasis were excluded. We analyzed the relationship between the D2 lymphadenectomy and the 5-year survival rate among different subgroups stratified by clinical features, such as age, tumor size, tumor location and depth of invasion. At the same time, the relationship between postoperative chemotherapy and the 5-year survival rate among different subgroups were also analyzed.The overall 5-year survival rate of the entire cohort was 63.7%. The 5-year survival rate was poor in those patients who were: (1) more than 65 years old; (2) with tumor size larger than 4 cm; (3) with tumor located in the upper portion of the stomach; and (4) with pT3 tumor. The survival rate was improved significantly by extended lymphadenectomy only in patients with pT3 tumor (P = 0.019), but not in other subgroups. Moreover, there was no significant difference in survival rate between patients with and without postoperative chemotherapy among all of the subgroups (P0.05).For gastric cancer patients without lymph node metastasis, extended lymphadenectomy could improve the survival rate of those who have pT3-stage tumor. However, there was no evidence of a survival benefit from postoperative chemotherapy alone.

Recently, stathmin 1 has been proposed to function as an oncogene based on some relevant studies in multiple types of human cancers. However, the role of stathmin 1 in gastric cancer carcinogenesis has not been elucidated yet. The aim of this study was to investigate the expression of stathmin 1 as well as its association with overall survival of gastric cancer patients. The expression of stathmin 1 was detected by real-time quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction and Western blotting in gastric cancer and adjacent nontumor tissues. In addition, stathmin 1 expression was analyzed by immunohistochemistry in paraffin samples from 210 primary gastric cancer patients. The expression levels of stathmin 1 mRNA and protein in gastric cancer tissues were both significantly higher than those in adjacent nontumor tissues. In addition, the expression of stathmin 1 is correlated with Lauren's classification, depth of invasion, lymph node metastases, and tumor node metastasis (TNM) stage (all P < 0.05). Univariate analysis showed that high stathmin 1 expression was associated with poor prognosis in gastric cancer patients (P = 0.040). Multivariate analysis demonstrated that only lymph node metastasis and TNM stage were the independent prognostic indicators for gastric cancer. Stathmin 1 expression status is not an independent prognostic factor for patients with gastric cancer. Further subgroup analysis revealed that stathmin 1 expression was significantly correlated with prognosis in diffuse type gastric cancer. This research showed that the stathmin 1 overexpression might play an important role in the pathogenesis and subsequent progression of gastric cancer. Stathmin 1 could also be a potential therapeutic target in gastric cancer, especially for diffuse type gastric cancer.

Objectives The present study is aimed to investigate the effect of Gualou Xiebai Decoction (GXD) ethanol extract on myocardial fibrosis and clarify the possible mechanism. Methods Rats with ligated left anterior descending coronary artery were treated with GXD ethanol extract (1.14 g/kg, 2.27 g/kg, 4.53 g/kg) daily via gavage for 4 weeks. Histopathological changes and collagen distribution were evaluated by haematoxylin and eosin and Masson staining. The mRNA levels of Collagen I and Collagen III were detected by real-time PCR. The expressions of TGF-β1, TGFβ receptor (TGFβR)I, TGFβRII, P-Smad2/3 and Smad7 were determined by Western blot. Results GXD treatment was significantly reduced the heart weight/body weight ratio (P < 0.05) as well as the left ventricle weight/body weight ratio (P < 0.05). It also significantly alleviated the degree of inflammation, decreased myocardial collagen volume fraction (P < 0.05 ∼ 0.01), together with markedly prevented the upregulations of Collagen I and Collagen III (P < 0.05 ∼ 0.01). Moreover, GXD downregulated expressions of TGF-β1, TGFβRI, TGFβRII, Smad2/3 whereas improved Smad7 expression in the myocardial fibrosis rats. Conclusions GXD ameliorates myocardial fibrosis induced by cardiac infarction with ligated left anterior descending coronary artery, the mechanism maybe involve in inhibiting the TGF-β1 signalling pathway.

Although decoupled plasma nitridation (DPN) post high-k dielectric deposition shows the better threshold voltage shift than post deposition anneal (PDA), the non-adequate plasma nitrogen (N) concentration and anneal temperature still can dominate the device performance. Using these two variables to probe the impact of HK deposition integrity and the interface quality between channel and gate dielectric is an undetected and published topic. In the experiment, the lower N-concentration and higher anneal temperature is beneficial to the higher drive current and lower threshold for NMOSFET. However, the PMOSFET prefers the lower anneal temperature as well as lower N-concentration. Additionally, the phenomena for the combination of DPN process and strain engineering causing the non-uniform trend distribution of subthreshold swing with device channel lengths were exposed.

Reported literatures have investigated the effects of pMOSFETs with embedded SiGe source/drain stressor, but devices incorporated with biaxial strain and embedded SiGe source/drain has not been clearly probed. In this study, the characteristics of devices containing biaxial strain and embedded SiGe source/drain stressor as well as different channel lengths were explored. According to the experimental results at high temperature stress, the saturation current of the embedded SiGe source/drain pMOSFETs degraded 5.5%, which was more serious than Si-control devices' 4.8% degradation. It is presumable that embedded SiGe source/drain induces more traps or interface states on the channel surface. In the channel hot carrier stress, the worst case in current degradation also demonstrated the identical trend.

The embedded SiGe source/drain stressor helpful to promote the drive current involves etching out the source/drain silicon and replacing it with SiGe filler. This process uses the lattice mismatch between silicon and germanium atoms making the silicon channel compressive. This compressive stress enhances hole mobility, and the pMOSFET performance can be enhanced. In this study, the characteristics of devices contained biaxial strain in channel and embedded SiGe source/drain stressor with different channel lengths and the channel hot carrier (CHC) in short channel pMOSFETs was explored, too.

Strained engineering in nano process technology is considered to be a promising enhancements on the electric characteristics of MOSFET devices. Both tensile and compressive strains are applied to NMOS and PMOS individually using silicon nitride as contact etching stop layer (CESL). As appeared in this study, the electrical characteristics are to be compared with or without strain on 10µm/10µm (channel length/ width) at various temperatures, and more benefits of compressive CESL and tensile CESL for NMOS and PMOS, respectively, are seen. One thus goes on to check with the trans-conductance (g m ) and the leakage current. The data that were shown assure us the next-generation promising devices.

First the S3C2410 platform is given based on the Embedded Linux, and the develop software environment on the platform. And then describe how to achieve the image collection on the platform, introduce the program of video capture, accomplish the JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group) compression achievement and realize MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service) transmission based on GPRS. It can be widely used in agriculture monitoring system.

To analyze the risk factors for interval time, number and pattern of hepatic metastases from gastric cancer after radical gastrectomy, and provide evidence for predicting and preventing hepatic metastasis from gastric cancer after radical gastrectomy.A retrospective study of 87 patients with hepatic metastasis who underwent radical gastrectomy for gastric cancer from 1996 to 2001. The data was analyzed to evaluate significant risk factors for interval time, number and pattern of hepatic metastases originating from gastric cancer after radical gastrectomy.The size of gastric cancer and lymph node metastases were independently correlated with the interval time of hepatic metastases; the depth of invasion was independently correlated with the number of hepatic metastases; while the depth of invasion and Lauren classification were independently correlated with the pattern of hepatic metastases.We evaluated the interval time of hepatic metastases with the size of gastric cancer and lymph node metastases. The depth of invasion could be used to evaluate the number of hepatic metastases, while the depth of invasion and the Lauren classification could be used to evaluate the pattern of hepatic metastases in patients who underwent radical gastrectomy.

Aim To evaluate effects of reconstruction procedures on post-operative outcomes and nutritional status after total gastrectomy. Methods The study group comprised 704 consecutive patients with gastric cancer who underwent total gastrectomy between December 1985 and December 2003. Six alimentary reconstruction procedures were performed, including jejunal continuity [Braun, modified Braun I and II and functional jejunal interposition (FJI)] and jejunum transection [“P” Roux-en-Y and “P” jejunal interposition (PJI)]. The duodenal food passage was maintained only by FJI and PJI. We evaluated the time interval to restore food intake after surgery and the incidence of complications and nutritional status for 12 months. Results Patients who received jejunum transection required 7.8 ± 2.5 days and 11.9 ± 4.9 days to restore liquid and semi-liquid food intake, respectively, which reduced to 3.9 ± 2.1 days for liquid and 7.9 ± 3.9 days for semi-liquid food intake by jejunum continuity. The incidence rates of reflux esophagitis and Roux-en-Y syndrome in patients receiving jejunum transection were 23.5% and 42.4%, respectively, which were decreased to 9.35% and 14.7%, respectively, by jejunal continuity. Furthermore, prognostic nutrition index score of patients receiving the procedures maintaining duodenal food passage (52.9 ± 10.9) was higher than that of patients without the duodenal food passage (46.7 ± 8.2). Conclusion Jejunal continuity and duodenal food passage showed beneficial effects on clinical outcomes after surgery. Among these six procedures, FJI was the only procedure to combine the benefits of jejunal continuity and maintaining the duodenal food passage, indicating that FJI has potential clinical application to improve the quality of patient's life after total gastrectomy.

Objective The aim of this study was to investigate the prognostic value of metastatic lymph node ratio (LNR) in patients having radical resection for stage III gastric cancer. Methods A total of 365 patients with stage III gastric cancer who underwent radical resection between 2002 and 2008 at Tianjin Medical University Cancer Institute and Hospital were analyzed. The cut-point survival analysis was adopted to determine the appropriate cutoffs for LNR. Kaplan–Meier survival curves and log-rank tests were used for the survival analysis. Results By cut-point survival analysis, the LNR staging system was generated using 0.25 and 0.50 as the cutoff values. Pearson's correlation test revealed that the LNR was related with metastatic lymph nodes but not related with total harvested lymph nodes. In the nano-regime MOSFET devices, the punch-through effect is more distinct, retarding the reliability tolerance, such as electro-static discharge or latch-up applications. Through the measurement in various device lengths under contact-etch-stop-layer strain process or without strain effect for 45 nm complementary MOS process, the difference of punch-through effect and junction breakdown integrity were able to be classified and exhibited in design applications. After tested data analysis, the junction breakdown issue in PMOSFET was usually greater than that in NMOSFET due to the doping concentrations and the doping species. Generally, the junction breakdown value is independent of channel length variation except the existence of some damage close to the gate/source or gate/drain fringe. In addition, the punch-through voltage for PMOSFET as source/drain current IDS = 1 μA is also larger than that observed for NMOSFET.
