The global energy system is in transition. It is attempting to reach net‐zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. The systemic changes mean that the role of bioenergy will change. The potential of bioenergy to make a flexible contribution to the energy system is key for the achievement of global emission reduction ambitions and the functioning of the low‐carbon energy system and economy. As the volume of sustainably available biomass resources is limited, defining the contributions from bioenergy to a low‐carbon energy system and finding balances – and ideally synergies – between the different possible energy and climate system services that biomass can provide will be very important. The recognized system services include, among others, the flexible operation of bioenergy plants to integrate variable renewable energy sources and to provide negative carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. Interest in flexible operation of bioenergy value chains, bioenergy with carbon capture and utilization as well as synergies with renewable hydrogen‐based value chains has increased recently. The objective of this paper is to present a holistic definition of flexible bioenergy as a system service based on the work conducted in International Energy Agency (IEA) Bioenergy Technology Collaboration Programme's Task 44 Flexible Bioenergy and System Integration, and to provide some practical examples. The paper also presents the different bioenergy system services and considers their definitions and interactions, as this is important in energy system design. The definition of flexible bioenergy shows that the flexibility provision from bioenergy goes far beyond the traditional definition of providing short‐term flexibility in the power sector. Indicators to demonstrate the value of services as well as further quantitative assessment of synergies and trade‐offs are needed to valorize the different services from bioenergy and create viable business cases. Key long-lived greenhouse gases (CO2, CH4, and N2O) are perhaps among the best-studied components of the Earth's atmosphere today; however, attempts to predict or explain trends or even shorter-term variations of these trace gases are not always successful. Infrared spectroscopy is a recognized technique for the ground-based long-term monitoring of the gaseous composition of the atmosphere. The current paper is focused on the analysis of new data on CO2, CH4, and N2O total columns (TCs) retrieved from high resolution IR solar spectra acquired during 2009–2022 at the NDACC atmospheric monitoring station of St. Petersburg State University (STP station, 59.88°N, 29.83°E, 20 m asl.). The paper provides information on the FTIR system (Fourier-transform infrared) installed at the STP station, and an overview of techniques used for the CO2, CH4, and N2O retrievals. Trends of key greenhouse gases and their confidence levels were evaluated using an original approach which combines the Lomb–Scargle method with the cross-validation and bootstrapping techniques. As a result, the following fourteen-year (2009–2022) trends of TCs have been revealed: (0.56 ± 0.01) % yr−1 for CO2; (0.46 ± 0.02) % yr−1 for CH4; (0.28 ± 0.01) % yr−1 for N2O. A comparison with trends based on the EMAC numerical modeling data was carried out. The trends of greenhouse gases observed at the STP site are consistent with the results of the in situ monitoring performed at the same geographical location, and with the independent estimates of the global volume mixing ratio growth rates obtained by the GAW network and the NOAA Global Monitoring Laboratory. There is reasonable agreement between the CH4 and N2O TC trends for 2009–2019, which have been derived from FTIR measurements at three locations: the STP site, Izaña Observatory and the University of Toronto Atmospheric Observatory. Legislation regulating the sustainability requirements for hydrogen technologies relies more and more on life cycle assessments (LCAs). Due to different scopes and development processes, different pieces of EU legislation refer to different LCA methodologies, with differences in the way multifunctional processes (i.e., co-productions, recycling, and energy recovery) are treated. These inconsistencies arise because incentive mechanisms are not standardized across sectors, even though the end product, hydrogen, remains the same. The goal of this paper is to compare the life-cycle greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions of hydrogen from four production pathways depending on the multifunctional approach prescribed by the different EU policies (e.g., using substitution or allocation). The study reveals a large variation in the LCA results. For instance, the life-cycle GHG emissions of hydrogen co-produced with methanol is found to vary from 1 kg CO 2 -equivalent/kg H 2 (when mass allocation is considered) to 11 kg CO 2 -equivalent/kg H 2 (when economic allocation is used). These inconsistencies could affect the market (e.g., hydrogen from a certain pathway could be considered sustainable or unsustainable depending on the approach) and the environment (e.g., pathways that do not lead to a global emission reduction could be promoted). To mitigate these potential negative effects, we urge for harmonized and strict guidelines to assess the life-cycle GHG emissions of hydrogen technologies in an EU policy context. Harmonization should cover international policies too, to avoid the same risks when hydrogen will be traded based on its GHG emissions. Cement and concrete are essential for global development. However, cement manufacture is responsible for around 7–8% of global greenhouse gas emissions, with significant growth anticipated. Beyond efficiencies in cement manufacturing, other strategies for using less cement in construction through applying the principles of efficient design, circular economy and reuse also have the potential to reduce emissions. A further option is to move towards cements with different compositions and inherently lower embodied carbon dioxide. This paper focuses on these materials and the challenges to their widespread adoption, drawing mainly on applied research, trials and standardisation activities conducted in the UK and the EU. In addition to modification of standards, basic technical and practical information such as strength development curves, durability, site considerations and a shared broad body of evidence are key for specifiers to consider when using any new cement. The paper describes the role of standards and specifications and the underpinning information (applied research, published case studies and experience) essential in getting any new cement adopted. The quantification of emissions of greenhouse gases and air pollutants through the inversion of plumes in satellite images remains a complex problem that current methods can only assess with significant uncertainties. The anticipated launch of the CO2M (Copernicus Anthropogenic Carbon Dioxide Monitoring) satellite constellation in 2026 is expected to provide high-resolution images of CO2 (carbon dioxide) column-averaged mole fractions (XCO2), opening up new possibilities. However, the inversion of future CO2 plumes from CO2M will encounter various obstacles. A challenge is the low CO2 plume signal-to-noise ratio due to the variability in the background and instrumental errors in satellite measurements. Moreover, uncertainties in the transport and dispersion processes further complicate the inversion task. To address these challenges, deep learning techniques, such as neural networks, offer promising solutions for retrieving emissions from plumes in XCO2 images. Deep learning models can be trained to identify emissions from plume dynamics simulated using a transport model. It then becomes possible to extract relevant information from new plumes and predict their emissions. In this paper, we develop a strategy employing convolutional neural networks (CNNs) to estimate the emission fluxes from a plume in a pseudo- XCO2 image. Our dataset used to train and test such methods includes pseudo-images based on simulations of hourly XCO2 , NO2 (nitrogen dioxide), and wind fields near various power plants in eastern Germany, tracing plumes from anthropogenic and biogenic sources. CNN models are trained to predict emissions from three power plants that exhibit diverse characteristics. The power plants used to assess the deep learning model's performance are not used to train the model. We find that the CNN model outperforms state-of-the-art plume inversion approaches, achieving highly accurate results with an absolute error about half of that of the cross-sectional flux method and an absolute relative error of ∼ 20 % when only the XCO2 and wind fields are used as inputs. Furthermore, we show that our estimations are only slightly affected by the absence of NO2 fields or a detection mechanism as additional information. Finally, interpretability techniques applied to our models confirm that the CNN automatically learns to identify the XCO2 plume and to assess emissions from the plume concentrations. The Geostationary Carbon Cycle Observatory (GeoCarb) was selected as NASA's second Earth Venture Mission (EVM-2). The scientific objectives of GeoCarb were to advance our knowledge of the carbon cycle, in particular, land–atmosphere fluxes of the greenhouse gases carbon dioxide (CO 2) and methane (CH 4) and the effects of these fluxes on the Earth's radiation budget. GeoCarb would retrieve column-integrated dry-air mole fractions of CO 2 (XCO2), CH 4 (XCH4) and CO (XCO), important for understanding tropospheric chemistry), in addition to solar-induced fluorescence (SIF), from hyperspectral resolution measurements in the O 2 A-band at 0.76 µ m, the weak CO 2 band at 1.6 µ m, the strong CO 2 band at 2.06 µ m, and a CH 4 /CO band at 2.32 µ m. Unlike its predecessors (OCO-2/3, GOSAT-1/2, TROPOMI), GeoCarb would be in a geostationary orbit with a sub-satellite point centered over the Americas. This orbital configuration combined with its high-spatial-resolution imaging capabilities would provide an unprecedented view of these quantities on spatial and temporal scales accurate enough to resolve sources and sinks to improve land–atmosphere CO 2 and CH 4 flux calculations and reduce the uncertainty of these fluxes. This paper will present a description of the GeoCarb instrument and the L2 retrieval algorithms which will be followed by simulation experiments to determine an error budget for each target gas. Several sources of uncertainty will be explored, including that from the instrument calibration parameters for radiometric gain, the instrument line shape (ILS), the polarization, and the geolocation pointing, in addition to forward model parameters including meteorology and spectroscopy, although there are some other instrument-related sources of uncertainty that are left out for this study, including that from "smile", the keystone effect, stray light, detector persistence, and scene inhomogeneity. The results indicate that the errors (1 σ) are less than the instrument's multi-sounding precision requirements of 1.2 ppm, 10 ppb, and 12 ppb (10 %), for XCO2 , XCH4 , and XCO , respectively. In particular, when considering the sources of uncertainty separately and in combination (all sources included), we find overall RMSEs of 1.06 ppm for XCO2 , 8.2 ppb for XCH4 , and 2.5 ppb for XCO , respectively. Additionally, we find that, as expected, errors in XCO2 and XCH4 are dominated by forward model and other systematic errors, while errors in XCO are dominated by measurement noise. It is important to note that the GeoCarb mission was canceled by NASA; however, the instrument is still in development and will be delivered to NASA, in full, with the hope that it will eventually be adopted in a future mission proposal. A lifecycle assessment to estimate greenhouse gas emissions in Australia from the paper cycle is summarised. The greenhouse gas emissions from paper in Australia in 1999/2000 were estimated to be 12.1 million tonnes (Mt) of CO2 equivalent. Nearly half of this amount consisted of CH4 emissions from landfilled waste paper. Various waste management options were modelled to investigate the greenhouse impact of a tonne of paper over its whole lifecycle. Options that keep paper out of landfills significantly reduce greenhouse emissions, waste-to-energy recovery being most effective. Recycling is also beneficial, and is of particular interest from a management perspective because it can be controlled by the pulp and paper industry. The climate system responds to changes in the amount of atmospheric greenhouse gases or aerosols through rapid processes, triggered within hours and days, and through slower processes, where the full response may only be seen after centuries. In this paper, we aim to elucidate the mechanisms operating on time scales of hours to years to better understand the response of key climate quantities such as energy fluxes, temperature, and precipitation after a sudden increase in either carbon dioxide (CO2), black carbon (BC), or sulfate (SO4) aerosols. The results are based on idealized simulations from six global climate models. We find that the effect of changing ocean temperatures kicks in after a couple of months. Rapid precipitation reductions start occurring instantly and are established after just a few days. For BC, they constitute most of the equilibrium response. For CO2 and SO4, the magnitude of the precipitation response gradually increases as surface warming/cooling evolves, and for CO2, the sign of the response changes from negative to positive after 2 years. Rapid cloud adjustments are typically established within the first 24 h, and while the magnitude of cloud feedbacks for CO2 and SO4 increases over time, the geographical pattern of the equilibrium cloud change is present already after the first year. While there are model differences, our work underscores the overall similarity of the major time-varying processes and responses simulated by current global models and hence the robustness of key features of simulated responses to historical and future anthropogenic forcing. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which is the United Nations body for assessing the science related to climate change, has recently recognized the natural carbonation process as a way of carbon offsetting with mortar and concrete. Accordingly, this activity could be recognized as a carbon removal process for which certification should be granted. The aim of the certification of carbon removal is to promote the development of adequate and efficient new carbon removal processes. Therefore, the main objective of this study is to provide reliable results on carbon dioxide uptake by cement-based materials in Spain. Yearly, greenhouse gas emissions are reported to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) by each country, and the natural carbonation should be added up to the carbon accounting. Therefore, natural carbonation should be included in the IPCC Guidelines for National Greenhouse Gas Inventories, and such accounting information should be made available promptly to the national regulatory authorities. This paper provides the results of carbon dioxide uptake by Spanish cement-based materials from 1990 to 2020 by using an easy method of estimating the net carbon dioxide emissions (simplified method) considering the carbon dioxide released by the calcination during clinker production (process emissions). The utilization of geological formations, distinguished by natural porosity and permeability and protected by low-permeability caprock, has emerged as an effective strategy for carbon dioxide (CO2) storage. This method significantly contributes to mitigating anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions and addressing the challenges of climate change. Recent research has unveiled the potential of CO2 to enhance geothermal heat energy extraction in geothermal reservoirs by acting as a subsurface heat exchange fluid. This review paper explores the viability of CO2 in augmenting geothermal heat energy extraction, comparing it to conventional water-based geothermal systems. Special emphasis is placed on CO2 plume geothermal (CPG) systems, characterized by rapid deployment and long-term utilization of geothermal energy resources. With the overarching objective of establishing net-zero energy communities, the analysis of such systems offers a comprehensive understanding of their features, providing a fresh perspective on extracted energy within the context of energy supply in integrated, sustainable energy in built systems. Notably, these systems demonstrate efficacy in meeting the power requirements of an energy community, spanning both distinct heating and electricity needs. However, the key challenge lies in selecting suitable locations. This scientific review aims to comprehend the characteristics of CPG under specific temperature and pressure conditions while optimizing subsurface permeability. A key goal of the Paris Agreement (PA) is to reach net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2050 globally, which requires mitigation efforts from all countries. Africa's rapidly growing population and gross domestic product (GDP) make this continent important for GHG emission trends. In this paper, we study the emissions of carbon dioxide (CO 2), methane (CH 4) and nitrous oxide (N 2 O) in Africa over 3 decades (1990–2018). We compare bottom-up (BU) approaches, including United Nations Convention Framework on Climate Change (UNFCCC) national inventories, FAO, PRIMAP-hist, process-based ecosystem models for CO 2 fluxes in the land use, land use change and forestry (LULUCF) sector and global atmospheric inversions. For inversions, we applied different methods to separate anthropogenic CH 4 emissions. The BU inventories show that, over the decade 2010–2018, fewer than 10 countries represented more than 75 % of African fossil CO 2 emissions. With a mean of 1373 Mt CO 2 yr -1 , total African fossil CO 2 emissions over 2010–2018 represent only 4 % of global fossil emissions. However, these emissions grew by +34% from 1990–1999 to 2000–2009 and by +31% from 2000–2009 to 2010–2018, which represents more than a doubling in 30 years. This growth rate is more than 2 times faster than the global growth rate of fossil CO 2 emissions. The anthropogenic emissions of CH 4 grew by 5 % from 1990–1999 to 2000–2009 and by 14.8 % from 2000–2009 to 2010–2018. The N 2 O emissions grew by 19.5 % from 1990–1999 to 2000–2009 and by 20.8 % from 2000–2009 to 2010–2018. When using the mean of the estimates from UNFCCC reports (including the land use sector) with corrections from outliers, Africa was a mean source of greenhouse gases of 262221863239 Mt CO 2 eq. yr -1 from all BU estimates (the subscript and superscript indicate min–max range uncertainties) and of +263717615873 Mt CO 2 eq. yr -1 from top-down (TD) methods during their overlap period from 2001 to 2017. Although the mean values are consistent, the range of TD estimates is larger than the one of the BU estimates, indicating that sparse atmospheric observations and transport model errors do not allow us to use inversions to reduce the uncertainty in BU estimates. The main source of uncertainty comes from CO 2 fluxes in the LULUCF sector, for which the spread across inversions is larger than 50 %, especially in central Africa. Moreover, estimates from national UNFCCC communications differ widely depending on whether the large sinks in a few countries are corrected to more plausible values using more recent national sources following the methodology of Grassi et al. (2022). The medians of CH 4 emissions from inversions based on satellite retrievals and surface station networks are consistent with each other within 2 % at the continental scale. The inversion ensemble also provides consistent estimates of anthropogenic CH 4 emissions with BU inventories such as PRIMAP-hist. For N 2 O, inversions systematically show higher emissions than inventories, on average about 4.5 times more than PRIMAP-hist, either because natural N 2 O sources cannot be separated accurately from anthropogenic ones in inversions or because BU estimates ignore indirect emissions and underestimate emission factors. Future improvements can be expected thanks to a denser network of monitoring atmospheric concentrations. This study helps to introduce methods to enhance the scope of use of various published datasets and allows us to compute budgets thanks to recombinations of those data products. Our results allow us to understand uncertainty and trends in emissions and removals in a region of the world where few observations exist and where most inventories are based on default IPCC guideline values. The results can therefore serve as a support tool for the Global Stocktake (GST) of the Paris Agreement. The dairy sector significantly contributes to global food production, however, it is closely associated with environmental concerns, specifically the emission of greenhouse gases such as methane (CH4) and carbon dioxide (CO2). The research problem focuses on the environmental impact of livestock farming, particularly in relation to the emission of greenhouse gases (GHG) such as methane (CH4) and carbon dioxide (CO2). Therefore, the objective of this paper was to assess the spatial variability of CH4 and CO2, as well as the thermal environment through the Temperature and Humidity Index (THI) and of air velocity (V, m s-1) in a Compost Bedded Pack (CBP). The experiment was carried out in October 2023, in a commercial dairy cattle facility measuring 54×22×4.5 m (length×width×height) that housed 80 lactating cows. Measurements were collected at 75 points, 0.25 m above the bedding, for one minute in each point. To characterize the distribution of gases and the thermal environment, the data were underwent geostatistical techniques and kriging maps. THI values ranged from 72.4 to 78.4, categorizing the animals into two environments within the facility, comfort and alert to thermal conditions. The maximum recorded for CO2 was 713.60 ppm in the region with a low ventilation incidence. CH4 reached a ranging from 103.38 to 196.73 ppm in areas with low ventilation and higher temperatures. The use of geostatistics enabled the characterization of spatial variability of greenhouse gases CH4 and CO2, as well as THI and V. Analyzing these variables is crucial for implementing mitigation actions and developing an increasingly sustainable production system. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Since 1999, Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) has been coordinating a multi-laboratory comparison of measurements of long-lived greenhouse gases in whole air samples collected at the Global Atmosphere Watch (GAW) Alert Observatory located in the Canadian High Arctic (82 ∘ 28 ′ N, 62 ∘ 30 ′ W). In this paper, we evaluate the measurement agreement of atmospheric CO 2 , CH 4 , N 2 O, SF 6 , and stable isotopes of CO 2 (δ13 C, δ18 O) between leading laboratories from seven independent international institutions. The measure of success is linked to target goals for network compatibility outlined by the World Meteorological Organization's (WMO) GAW greenhouse gas measurement community. Overall, based on ∼ 8000 discrete flask samples, we find that the co-located atmospheric CO 2 and CH 4 measurement records from Alert by CSIRO, MPI-BGC, SIO, UHEI-IUP, and ECCC versus NOAA (the designated reference laboratory) are generally consistent with the WMO compatibility goals of ± 0.1 ppm CO 2 and ± 2 ppb CH 4 over the 17-year period (1999–2016), although there are periods where differences exceed target levels and persist as systematic bias for months or years. Consistency with the WMO goals for N 2 O, SF 6 , and stable isotopes of CO 2 (δ13 C, δ18 O) has not been demonstrated. Additional analysis of co-located comparison measurements between CSIRO and SIO versus NOAA or INSTAAR (for the isotopes of CO 2) at other geographical sites suggests that the findings at Alert for CO 2 , CH 4 , N 2 O, and δ13 C–CO 2 could be extended across the CSIRO, SIO, and NOAA observing networks. The primary approach to estimate an overall measurement agreement level was carried out by pooling the differences of all individual laboratories versus the designated reference laboratory and determining the 95th percentile range of these data points. Using this approach over the entire data record, our best estimate of the measurement agreement range is -0.51 to + 0.53 ppm for CO 2 , -0.09 ‰ to + 0.07 ‰ for δ13 C, -0.50 ‰ to + 0.58 ‰ for δ18 O, -4.86 to + 6.16 ppb for CH 4 , -0.75 to + 1.20 ppb for N 2 O, and -0.14 to + 0.09 ppt for SF 6. A secondary approach of using the average of 2 standard deviations of the means for all flask samples taken in each individual sampling episode provided similar results. These upper and lower limits represent our best estimate of the measurement agreement at the 95 % confidence level for these individual laboratories, providing more confidence for using these datasets in various scientific applications (e.g., long-term trend analysis). Despite the efforts to transition to a low carbon economy, greenhouse gas emissions are surging to critical levels. Carbon dioxide removals (CDR) methods, such as direct air capture (DAC), have been gaining substantial public attention in the last few years. DAC is essential in curbing CO2 concentrations and achieving climate targets. It is said that DAC can be deployed at anywhere, but a throughout life cycle assessment (LCA) is imperative to prove its viability. Therefore, this paper aims to explore the feasibility of constructing a 1 MT CO 2 plant in Ireland, using Kinsale and Corrib gas fields as storage points. The results showed that the country is an ideal candidate for scaling up this emerging industry. The efficiency is primarily influenced by the construction of the pipeline section, given a reliable sources of heat and electricity. The study highlights the significant impact of distances to the storage points on feasibility, favouring counties near of the gas fields. Carbon dioxide (CO2) is a known greenhouse gas and one of the largest contributors to global warming in the Earth's atmosphere. The remote detection and measurement of CO2 from industrial emissions are not routinely carried out and are typically calculated from the fuel combusted or measured directly within ducted vents. However, these methods are not applicable for the quantification of fugitive emissions of CO2. This work presents the results of remote measurement of CO2 emissions using the differential absorption lidar (DIAL) technique at a wavelength of ~2 µm. The results from the DIAL measurements compare well with simultaneous in-stack measurements, these datasets were plotted against each other and can be described by a linear regression of y (t/h) = 1.04 x − 0.02, suggesting any bias in the DIAL data is likely small. Moreover, using the definition outlined in EN 15267-3 a lower detection limit of 0.12 t/h was estimated for the 2 µm wavelength DIAL data, this is three orders of magnitude lower than the corresponding CO2 detection limit measured by NPL in the 1.5 µm wavelength region. Thus, this paper demonstrates the feasibility of high-resolution, ground-based DIAL measurements for quantifying industrial CO2 emissions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

With climate change, more intense weather phenomena can be expected, including pressure drops related to the arrival of an atmospheric front. Such drops of pressure are the main reason for gas emissions from closed mines to the surface, and a closed, empty mine shaft is the most likely route of this emission. Among the gases emitted, the most important are carbon dioxide and methane, creating a twofold problem—greenhouse gas emissions and gas hazards. The work presented in this paper simulated the spread of the mentioned gases near such an abandoned shaft for four variants: model validation, the most dangerous situations found during measurements with or without wind, and a forecast variant for a possible future pressure drop. It was found that a momentary CO2 emission of 0.69 m3/s and a momentary CH4 emission of 0.29 m3/s are possible, which for one hour of the appropriate drop would give hypothetically 2484 m3 CO2 and 1044 m3 CH4. In terms of gas hazards, the area that should be monitored and protected may exceed 25 m from a closed shaft in the absence of wind influence. Flexible gas sensors, which can detect gas markers from the human body and hazardous gases from the environment, are attracting tremendous attention recently. Carbon nanotube (CNT) films are explored for flexible gas sensors due to its sensing ability at room temperature, strong adsorption for foreign molecules, mechanical robustness, and remarkable flexibility, and providing nanoscale surfaces with large surface area for various functional materials, etc. In this paper, recent advances in flexible gas sensors based on CNT films are reviewed. It discusses various strategies to design the structure of flexible CNT films and improve flexibility/stretchability performance. It generalizes different types of sensitive materials loaded for detected gases and analyzes the sensing mechanism of CNT films, with interface interactions and synergistic effects leading to an improvement in gas sensing. In addition, it discusses the preparation of CNT self‐standing films and the use of flexible substrates in transformation and assembly, in order to enable CNT films with improved flexible properties. CNT films show remarkable response and flexibility to hazard or greenhouse gases, such as ammonia, nitrogen dioxide, hydrogen, nitric oxide, carbon dioxide, and others. Hybrid calcium carbonate (HCC) is prepared by pre-flocculating calcium oxide and ground calcium carbonate (GCC) with ionic polymers, and by injecting carbon dioxide to the pre-flocculated flocs until termination of the reaction at neutral pH. When used in papermaking, HCC gave higher bulk, higher stiffness, and higher tensile strength than GCC did. Furthermore, when higher wet pressing pressure was applied to the paper containing HCC, higher solid content was achieved with still better stiffness, smoothness, and tensile strength in comparison with the paper containing GCC. Actually, very high bulk of the HCC containing paper was compromisingly reduced to obtain high solid content by applying higher wet pressing pressure. Higher solid content achieved by combination of HCC technology and higher wet pressing pressure resulted in paper drying energy savings of more than 10%, while a high quality of all the essential printing paper properties was maintained. The ability of global transport models to go up in resolution becomes discriminating for greenhouse gas atmospheric inversions. This paper describes the porting on Graphics Processing Units of the global transport model currently used in the European operational Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) for CO2 and N2O inversions. It represents an important milestone to achieve sub‐degree resolution. The code includes not only the direct model but also its tangent‐linear and its adjoint versions which are needed in variational inversions. Tests were carried out for CO2 at a resolution of 2.50° in longitude, 1.27° in latitude and 79 layers in the vertical, corresponding to 1,626,768 3D cells, 4.5 times more than the current standard resolution of the model used in the CAMS reanalyzes. A month's worth of computation of the tangent‐linear and of the adjoint versions now takes 2.5 min, including 50 s for reading meteorological data. Plain Language Summary: Atmospheric transport models are intensively used to infer global greenhouse gas emissions and removals, from atmospheric measurements: a single global analysis involves repeated and long transport simulations. This intensive use has limited the spatial resolution of such analyses despite an increasing need for national greenhouse gas budgets, despite an increasing number of corresponding space‐based observations at kilometer resolution, and despite an increasing number of high‐quality surface measurements made in sites marked by strong local influences. Despite the efforts to transition to a low carbon economy, greenhouse gas emissions are surging to critical levels. Carbon dioxide removals (CDR) methods, such as direct air capture (DAC), have been gaining substantial public attention in the last few years. DAC is essential in curbing CO2 concentrations and achieving climate targets. It is said that DAC can be deployed at anywhere, but a throughout life cycle assessment (LCA) is imperative to prove its viability. Therefore, this paper aims to explore the feasibility of constructing a 1 MT CO 2 plant in Ireland, using Kinsale and Corrib gas fields as storage points. The results showed that the country is an ideal candidate for scaling up this emerging industry. The efficiency is primarily influenced by the construction of the pipeline section, given a reliable sources of heat and electricity. The study highlights the significant impact of distances to the storage points on feasibility, favouring counties near of the gas fields. Carbon dioxide, or CO2, is responsible for most global greenhouse gas emissions. Sequestering CO2 in concrete can potentially reduce carbon emissions while simultaneously improving concrete's characteristics. This study's main objective is to use carbon dioxide in the Ready-Mix Concrete (RMC) during the mixing phase. This study also investigates the effects of carbon dioxide incorporation on the properties of concrete at different dosages (0% to 0.20% by weight of the binder) and binder types such as Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) and Portland Pozzolana Cement (PPC). Through a detailed experimental study, the paper seeks to understand the changes in the various mixes' fresh, hardened, and microstructural properties. The results indicate that carbon dioxide had no adverse effect on fresh concrete properties, with minor changes leading to improved performance in concrete samples at precise dosages. The microstructural results reveal that the concrete tends to densify by utilizing the optimum dosage of carbon dioxide and thus achieve the best performance. Concrete mixtures treated with CO2 showed increased compressive strength; 0.10% CO2 in OPC-based mixes gave up to 30% benefit, and 0.05% in PPC-based mixes gave up to 25%. PPC-based had the highest compressive strengths at later ages, OPC-based at early ages. The time of set was reduced by 18% in OPC mixes and 28% in PPC mixes. Furthermore, the addition of CO2 during mixing had a positive impact on the concrete's durability. Background: Greenhouse gases (GHGs) are significant contributors to climate change, and CO2 equivalent (CO2-e) is measured to compare emissions from GHGs. The healthcare sector contributes 4.4% of global CO2-e emissions, mainly with energy consumption and, in lesser extent, waste production. In this regard, bronchoscopy procedures produce a large amount of waste and are responsible for a significant consumption of energy. Objective: We aimed at quantifying the impact on waste mass production, energy consumption, and recyclability of bronchoscopic procedures. Methods: We conducted a prospective single-centre observational study; for each type of procedure (performed with either reusable or single-use instruments), the number of items used, their weight, and recyclability were evaluated, as well as the material of which recyclable waste was made of. We then calculated the total amount of waste produced, its recyclability, energy consumption, and CO2-e produced over 10 days of activity in our Interventional Pulmonology Unit. Results: Sixty procedures generated 61,928 g of waste, of which only 15.8% was potentially recyclable. Single-use instruments generated nearly twofold more recyclable waste than reusable ones, 80% during the procedure phase. Reusable instruments generated 45% of waste during the reprocessing phase, of which 50% was recyclable. The recyclable material was totally composed of paper and plastic. During 10 days of activity, we consumed 64 kWh and produced more than 67 kg of CO2-e due to non-recyclable waste and energy consumption. Conclusions: Our results confirm the compelling need to recycle as many materials as possible, even if the amount of recyclable waste is limited. In this respect, official documents issued by international societies are urgently needed to align our activity with climate requirements and improve the sustainability of our work. National targets for CO 2 reduction in the German building sector have stagnated due to low refurbishment rates. This paper proposes an alternative approach using highly efficient, decentralized energy systems. By combining photovoltaic (PV) systems and combined heat and power (CHP) plants controlled by a modified hierarchical control algorithm, CO 2 emissions can be reduced. Results from a single-family home show a 13% CO 2 reduction with only 11% higher operational costs on heating days. On summer days, up to 50% CO 2 emissions can be avoided without additional costs. The control algorithm easily adapts to changing input parameters, making it suitable for different countries and business cases. Overall, with its modified control, the PV-CHP hybrid system can effectively reduce CO 2 emissions and adapt to varying conditions. The paper is devoted to comparative analysis of detailed gas-geochemical studies carried out in the Alekseev Bay (Peter the Great Gulf, Japan Sea) in 1989 and 2022. The distribution of methane and carbon dioxide in water is given in details. CTD measurements were made to determine water temperature and salinity. The main regularities in the distribution of gas geochemical fields in the Alekseev Bay (Peter the Great Gulf) are shown basing on the available geological information, taking into account the materials of the predecessors. The results obtained are in demand both in theoretical studies of the gas geochemical fields distribution on the Earth's surface in connection with the seismotectonic and geological features of the region, and in the practice of developing methods and technologies for measuring the balance flows of the main greenhouse gases, emission and absorption. The Thermal and Near-Infrared Sensor for Carbon Observation Fourier-Transform Spectrometer-2 (TANSO-FTS-2) onboard the Japanese Greenhouse Gases Observing SATellite-2 (GOSAT-2) observes a wide spectral region of the atmosphere, from the ShortWave-InfraRed (SWIR) to the longwave Thermal InfraRed radiation (TIR) with 0.2 cm -1 spectral sampling, and the corresponding spectral resolution (full width at half maximum, FWHM) of TIR region is less than 0.27 cm -1. TANSO-FTS-2 has operated nominally since February 2019, and the atmospheric radiance spectra it has acquired have been released to the public. This paper describes an updated model for spectral radiance calibration and its validation. The model applies to the version v210210 TIR products of TANSO-FTS-2 and integrates polarization sensitivity correction for the internal optics and the pointing mirror thermal emission. These correction parameters are characterized by an optimization that depends on the difference between the spectral radiance of TANSO-FTS-2 and coincident nadir observation data from the Infrared Atmospheric Sounding Interferometer (IASI) on METOP-B. To validate the updated spectral radiance product against other satellite products, temporally and spatially coincident observation points were considered for the simultaneous nadir overpass (SNO) from February 2019 to March 2021 from the Atmospheric Infrared Sounder (AIRS) on Aqua, IASI on METOP-B, and TANSO-FTS on GOSAT. The agreement of brightness temperatures between TANSO-FTS-2 and AIRS and IASI was better than 0.3 K (1 σ) from 180 to 330 K for the 680 cm -1 CO 2 spectral range. The brightness temperatures between TANSO-FTS-2 and TANSO-FTS of version v230231, which implemented a new polarization reflectivity of the pointing mirror and was released in June 2021, generally agree from 220 to 320 K. However, there is a discrepancy at lower brightness temperatures, pronounced for CO 2 spectral ranges at high latitudes. To characterize the spectral radiance bias for along-track and cross-track angles, a 2-orthogonal simultaneous off-nadir overpass (2O-SONO) is now done for TANSO-FTS-2 and IASI, TANSO-FTS-2 and AIRS, and TANSO-FTS-2 and TANSO-FTS. The 2O-SONO comparison results indicate that the TIR product for TANSO-FTS-2 has a bias that exceeds 0.5 K in the CO 2 spectral range for scenes with forward and backward viewing angles greater than 20 ∘. These multi-satellite sensor and multi-angle comparison results suggest that the calibration of spectral radiance for TANSO-FTS-2 TIR, version v210210, is superior to that of the previous version in its consistency of multi-satellite sensor data. Freshwater resources are scarce globally, and the increase in carbon dioxide (CO 2) concentration leads to both a decrease in soil moisture and arid climate, further limiting agricultural production. Therefore, it is critical to achieve water efficiency in agriculture under elevated CO 2 concentration. A comprehensive analysis was conducted on the research topic of efficient agricultural water under elevated CO 2 concentration using bibliometric methods. The results show that the number of papers on this research has changed from an accumulation phase (1992–2005, 395) to a growth phase (2006–2023, 963). "Carbon dioxide", "water-stress", "growth", "photosynthesis", "yield", and other keywords have been the focus of past research in this area. Kimball BA and Ainsworth EA are the most influential authors in this area. Leakey's (2009) paper in "Experimental Botany" was the most contributing study, summarizing six lessons about the effects of CO 2 enrichment on the relationship among carbon, nitrogen, and water in plants. The United States and China were the most influential countries. Over time, research has shifted from an early focus on atmospheric CO 2 change itself to the response of crops to elevated CO 2 in agricultural production. The efficient crop production strategy under the interaction of environmental factors is becoming a hot spot for future research, and the emission and use of greenhouse gases, the improvement of crop quality, and the efficient guidance of models are also worth exploring. Overall, this study presents a quantitative analysis and comprehensive review of past research conducted on the effect of water and fertilizer on agricultural production under CO 2 enrichment. The Geostationary Carbon Cycle Observatory (GeoCarb) was selected as NASA's second Earth Venture Mission (EVM-2). The scientific objectives of GeoCarb are to advance our knowledge of the carbon cycle, in particular, landatmosphere fluxes of the greenhouse gases carbon dioxide (CO2) and methane (CH4), and the effects of these fluxes on the Earth's radiation budget. GeoCarb will retrieve column integrated amounts of CO2 (XCO2), CH4 (XCH4) and CO (XCO, important for understanding tropospheric chemistry), in addition to Solar-Induced Fluorescence (SIF), from hyperspectral resolution measurements in the O2 A-band at 0.76 µm, the weak CO2 band at 1.6 µm, the strong CO2 band at 2.06 µm, and a CH4/CO band at 2.32 µm. Unlike it's polar orbiting predecessors (OCO-2/3, GOSAT-1/2, TROPOMI), GeoCarb will be in a Geostationary orbit with a sub-satellite point centered over the Americas. This orbital configuration combined with its high spatial resolution imaging capabilities will provide an unprecedented view of these quantities on spatial and temporal scales accurate enough to resolve sources and sinks to improve land-atmosphere CO2 and CH4 flux calculations and reduce the uncertainty of these fluxes. This paper will present a description of the GeoCarb instrument and the L2 retrieval algorithms which will be followed by simulation experiments to determine a relatively comprehensive error budget for each target gas. Several sources of uncertainty will be explored including that from the instrument calibration parameters for radiometric gain, the instrument line shape (ILS), the polarization, and the geolocation pointing, in addition to, forward model parameters including that from meteorology and spectroscopy. The results indicate that the errors (1κ) are less than the instrument's multi-sounding precision requirements of 1.2 ppm, 10 ppb, and 12 ppb (10%), for XCO2, XCH4, and XCO, respectively. In particular, when considering the sources of uncertainty separately and in combination (all sources included), we find overall RMS errors of 1.06 ppm for XCO2, 8.2 ppb for XCH4, and 2.5 ppb for XCO, respectively. Additionally, we find that, as expected, errors in XCO2 and XCH4 are dominated by forward model and other systematic errors, while errors in XCO, like SIF, are dominated by measurement noise. Carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) technology is considered an effective way to reduce greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide (CO2), which is significant for achieving carbon neutrality. Based on Derwent patent data, this paper explored the technology topics in CCUS patents by using the latent Dirichlet allocation (LDA) topic model to analyze technology's hot topics and content evolution. Furthermore, the logistic model was used to fit the patent volume of the key CCUS technologies and predict the maturity and development trends of the key CCUS technologies to provide a reference for the future development of CCUS technology. We found that CCUS technology patents are gradually transforming to the application level, with increases in emerging fields, such as computer science. The main R&D institutes in the United States, Europe, Japan, Korea, and other countries are enterprises, while in China they are universities and research institutes. Hydride production, biological carbon sequestration, dynamic monitoring, geological utilization, geological storage, and CO2 mineralization are the six key technologies of CCUS. In addition, technologies such as hydride production, biological carbon sequestration, and dynamic monitoring have good development prospects, such as CCUS being coupled with hydrogen production to regenerate synthetic methane and CCUS being coupled with biomass to build a dynamic monitoring and safety system. The presented paper deals with the testing of a possibility to reduce emissions of undesirable greenhouse gases (CH 4 , CO 2; NO x) and their mixture (biogas) during the storage of digestate using applications of secondary plant metabolites (tannins). The experiment was conducted in laboratory conditions in which the digestate was placed in fermentation chambers. Prior to the fermentation process, preparations were applied to the digestate, which contained tannins: Tanenol Antibotrytis (TA), Tanenol Clar (TC) and Tanenol Rouge (TR) in three concentrations (0.5, 1.0 and 2.0% w/w). The application of these preparations demonstrably affected the production of biogas and the contents of CH 4 , CO 2 and N therein. The application of TR preparation in the concentration of 1.0% and 2.0% significantly reduced the production of biogas as compared with all variants. The preparation further inhibited the process of CH 4 development. In contrast, the other preparations with the content of different kinds of TA and TC increased the production of biogas (on average by 15%), CH 4 (on average by 7%) and CO 2 (on average by 12%) as compared with the control variant and TR variant. These two variants reduced the concentration of N in biogas on average by 38%. Thus, the tested Tanenol tannin preparations can be used in different concentrations either to control emissions of greenhouse gases during the storage of digestate or, in case of increased production of CO 2 for its reuse in order to increase methane yields in the process of anaerobic fermentation. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the association between hydroelectric energy consumption and CO 2 emissions in the USA from 1980:1 to 2019:8 by using the wavelet transform model. This research revealed that (a) in the short runs (at higher frequencies), hydro energy uses intensified CO 2 emissions for the periods 1990:01–1992:12, 1994:01–1994:12, and 2002:07–2007:11, and (b) during the longer periods (at lower frequencies), however, hydro energy consumption diminished CO 2 emissions for the periods 1983:01–2001:12 and 2011:01–2017:03. The paper explained as well why hydro energy can yield adverse and affirmative contributions to Greenhouse gas emissions by emphasizing the role of energy generation from hydro plants in shorter runs and longer runs in the USA considering all sub-samples of the sample period 1980:1–2019:8. Following China and the United States, India is the third highest CO2 emitter in the world. With its fast rising population and an industry primarily reliant on coal and oil, the country's emissions will continue to rise unless appropriate measures are taken. In India generally the carbon sequestration is done by storing CO2 in sedimentary basins where it gets capped by the impermeable cap rocks. The study aims to unfold the other techniques of carbon sequestration in subsurface formations, except for narrating the different types of carbon capture and sequestration techniques along with its storage in different types of environments. For instance, abiotic and biotic environments for CO2 sequestration. It further talks about carbon injections of oceanic, geological, and terrestrial types, to name just a few. Types of carbon emission sources are discussed too. In this paper three different approaches are described for carbon mitigation, namely CarbFix, CO2 Plume technology and Carbon Trading. A prefeasibility study was done in order to implement the three techniques in Dholera geothermal region in Gujarat, India. The objective of this study was to use a random‐effects model of meta‐analysis to merge various heritability estimates of different gas emission traits (methane yield [METY], methane production [METP], carbon dioxide production [CO2], the sum of carbon dioxide and methane production [METP + CO2], METPMETP+CO2 ratio, and oxygen consumption [O2]) and their genetic association with growth and partial efficiency traits in sheep. A total of 53 genetic correlations and 47 heritability estimates from 13 scientific articles were used in the meta‐analysis. The included papers were published between 2010 and 2022. To measure heterogeneity, Chi‐square (Q) test was performed, and the I2 statistic was determined. The average heritability estimates for the studied traits were low to moderate and ranged from 0.137 (for METY) to 0.250 (for METP + CO2). The heterogeneity test of heritability estimates indicated that heritability estimates for METY, O2 consumption, and METPMETP+CO2 had low Q values and non‐significant heterogeneity (p > 0.10). However, the average heritability estimates for other traits experienced significant heterogeneities (p < 0.10). The genetic correlation estimate between METP with O2 was −0.597 (p < 0.05), but its genetic correlations with other gas traits ranged from 0.593 (with METP + CO2) to 0.653 (CO2; p < 0.05). Also, mean estimates of genetic correlation between METP with live weight (LW), feed intake (FI), and residual feed intake (RFI) were 0.719, 0.598, and 0.408, respectively. The genetic correlations of CO2 with performance traits varied from 0.641 (with RFI) to 0.833 (with FI; p < 0.05). The paper presents an assessment of the change in carbon dioxide and methane concentrations in the atmosphere over Bulgaria over the last 13 years. GOSAT data for the period April 2009 to the end of 2021 are used for this purpose. The data are presented as monthly averages with a spatial resolution of 2.5×2.5 degrees. Nitrous oxide (N2O) is the third important long‐lived greenhouse gas next to carbon dioxide and methane and croplands are considered biogeochemical hotspots of soil N2O emissions. To reduce soil N2O and other greenhouse emissions, climate‐smart agricultural practices including biochar application have been applied. Many studies have been conducted with biochar application but results from these studies are not conclusive. To address this issue, meta‐analysis, a quantitative review that synthesizes results from multiple independent studies, has been widely used. The results from different meta‐analyses also differ but are seldomly evaluated. In this study, we evaluated meta‐analyses on the effects of biochar application on soil N2O emissions. A grand mean response ratio (RR) was further proposed to estimate an overall effect and the impacts of experiment setting, properties of biochar and soil, and agricultural practices. We found 18 meta‐analysis papers were published between 2014 and 2022. Sample size (publications or experiments) varied from less than 30 to more than 1000, with a mean sample size of 275. RR was calculated in all studies except one. While four meta‐analyses did not find a significant effect of biochar application on soil N2O emissions, all others reported reductions of soil N2O emissions, but the magnitude ranged from −10.5% to −54.8%. Synthesizing all results from these meta‐analyses, we found that biochar application overall significantly reduced the soil N2O emissions by 38.8%. The impacts increased with experimental duration till one and half years and reduced after that. Biochar application rate and C:N ratio had large influence on the effects of biochar application on soil N2O emissions. This study demonstrated that while meta‐analysis provides a more comprehensive and better estimation, the inconsistence among these studies may need to be further evaluated. Satellites provide global long-time series of spatio-temporal continuous CO2 observations. However, it is difficult to be applied to the study of small-scale carbon cycle because of its low spatial resolution. In this paper, the Greenhouse Gases Observing SATellite (GOSAT) XCO2 data are super-resolution reconstructed using bicubic interpolation, which improved the spatial resolution from 2.5o to 0.5o. CO2 measurements from ten selected TCCON sites are used to compare with the reconstructed GOSAT. Further, the high accuracy Orbiting Carbon Observatory-2 (OCO-2) data analysed by the combination of geographical grid statistics and kriging is used to evaluate the reconstructed data. The results show that compared with the original GOSAT data, the reconstructed GOSAT data not only improves the spatial resolution but also has little loss of the average accuracy. China's economy has made significant strides in the past three decades. As a direct result of China's "one belt, one road" (OBOR) initiative, the country's rate of industrialization and urbanization is currently the fastest in the entire world. This rapid development is largely dependent on the enormous amounts of energy currently being consumed and forms the foundation of the world's high levels of carbon emissions. It is generally agreed that the production of greenhouse gases, particularly carbon dioxide, is the primary contributor to the current state of climate change. In this paper, a CO2 emission prediction model based on Bi-LSTM is constructed. In order to conduct empirical tests on the model, this study uses data from South Asian countries and China from 2001 to 2020. China's CO2 emissions from 2022 to 2030 were predicted along with those of other countries in order to study the combined effects of the scientific and technological progress, industrial structures, and energy structure factors affecting CO2 emissions. When compared with the LSTM and GRU methods, the Bi-LSTM model's results produced lower MAE, MSE, and MAPE values, indicating that it performs better. According to the findings, carbon emissions represent a significant problem that will become much worse in the future due to China and India's high emissions, particularly in the next 10 years, if the government does not implement policies that help reduce those emissions. Global warming has in recent years become a cause for serious concern. It is believed to result from the release of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, particularly carbon dioxide. Upon assessing the recent developments, it can be learnt that attempts in relation to the reduction of anthropogenic carbon dioxide content and decreasing the emission of greenhouse gases appear to be among the key issues. Despite a range of technologies and approaches established over the years, the issue of separating carbon dioxide from gas streams still cannot be addressed. Notwithstanding having developed new methods, another substantial challenge identified in the area is the growth of adsorbents with relatively higher performance. It is worthy of note that they help balance an array of optimization‐needed factors which include efficiency, engineering feasibility and costs. Zeolites, metal‐organic frameworks, silica and activated carbon are among the adsorption materials which are widely discussed in the literature. Accordingly, recent studies focusing on such materials are comprehensively discussed and summarized in this review. Besides, the cost, carbon capture capacity and selectivity which are among the major concerns with respect to selecting adsorbents are compared in this paper. Furthermore, both the privileges and drawbacks of each type of adsorbent are presented in this manuscript. Despite the encouraging results achieved in this study, developing more effective adsorbents to capture carbon dioxide remains a fundamental challenge. The use of non-metallic, textile reinforcement structures in place of steel reinforcement is a key component in making concrete constructions more sustainable and durable than they currently are. The reason for this is the corrosion resistance of textile reinforcements, which makes it possible to reduce the thickness of the concrete cover and at the same time extend the service life of concrete structures. This reduces the amount of cement required and thus also the emission of the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide (CO2). By means of textile manufacturing technologies, customized, load-adapted reinforcement topologies can be adjusted to the requirements of highly stressed and well-designed concrete components. The objective of this paper is to give an overview of recent research literature dedicated to textile reinforcement structures that are already used for concrete applications in the construction industry as well as those currently under development. Therefore, textile reinforcement structures, which are divided into one-, two- and three-dimensional topologies, as well as common materials used for textile-reinforced concrete (TRC) are reviewed. Most research has so far been devoted to two-dimensional textile reinforcement structures. Renewable-energy-based microgrids (MGs) are being advocated around the world in response to increasing energy demand, high levels of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, energy losses, and the depletion of conventional energy resources. However, the high investment cost of the MGs besides the low selling price of the energy to the main grid are two main challenges to realize the MGs in developing countries such as Iran. For this reason, the government should define some incentive policies to attract investor attention to MGs. This paper aims to develop a framework for the optimal planning of a renewable energy-based MG considering the incentive policies. To investigate the effect of the incentive policies on the planning formulation, three different policies are introduced in a pilot system in Iran. The minimum penetration rates of the RESs in the MG to receive the government incentive are defined as 20% and 40% in two different scenarios. The results show that the proposed incentive policies reduce the MG's total net present cost (NPC) and the amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. The maximum NPC and CO2 reduction in comparison with the base case (with incentive policies) are 22.87% and 56.13%, respectively. Power to gas (PtG) technologies, especially Power to methane has been deemed as one of the promising pathways for the conversion of CO 2 into valuable gaseous fuel. Many reports have reviewed the academic literature related to CO 2 methanation. While the benefits of high temperature methanation for overall process efficiency are well understood, the potential for low-temperature methanation is less understood. In particular the opportunities that arise from coupling a low-temperature methanation process with low temperature hydrogen production technologies, such as PEM electrolysis, have received little attention. It is therefore considered valuable to provide a critical review of the state of the art of this technology at low temperature conditions for the interests of broader research community. In this paper we focus on the recent work around low temperature CO 2 methanation including reaction thermodynamics and kinetics, catalyst materials including supports and promoters, and suitable reactor technologies. We discuss each of these critical aspects of the technology and identify key challenges and opportunities for low temperature CO 2 methanation (methanation conducted at temperatures less than 300 °C). As part of this paper, we also present the results of an ASPEN Plus simulation study based on data available from the literature to highlight the potential energy efficiency gains of a low temperature methanation process. The paper discusses the use of measurements of the IKFS-2 hyperspectral infrared sounder installed on Meteor-M polar-orbiting weather satellites for remote derivation of the atmospheric parameters related to so called essential climate variables (ECV) of the atmosphere, whose monitoring is necessary to characterize the climate system and its changes. The ECVs include the concentrations of the main atmosphere greenhouse gases (water vapor, carbon dioxide, methane, and ozone), characteristics of clouds and aerosols, as well as vertical temperature profiles, near-surface temperature, etc. A brief description of the IKFS-2 instrument and the results of its operation on board the Meteor-M spacecraft No. 2 during the period from the autumn of 2014 till now is given. The possibility of forming multiyear homogeneous series containing IKFS-2 measurements and satellite-based estimates of the aforementioned atmospheric ECVs is analyzed. An advanced method for deriving the total content of atmospheric carbon dioxide from IKFS-2 measurements is presented. Summary: Anthropogenic activities including the combustion of fossil fuels have led to a dramatic increase in the rate of carbon dioxide (CO2) emission in the last three decades. Since fossil‐based fuels are still the predominant energy source for this century, CO2 is a colossal problem. It is emitted as a consequence of combustion and human activities and is a major greenhouse gas (GHG) that significantly contributes to climate change and global warming, making CO2 emission a worldwide problem. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has proposed a 45% decrease in anthropogenic CO2 emissions by 2030, with a target of "net‐zero" CO2 emissions by 2050. Despite its harmful effects, CO2 has the potential to be used for a wide range of different industrial needs, after its capture. CO2 capture technologies are still in the early stage of development because of economic and technological issues. However, in the future, carbon capture and related application technologies and methods may become easier and more accessible due to the new developments in the materials synthesis, strategies and skills and inexpensive utilization, and functioning cost of the employed methods. Furthermore, carbon capture system (CCS) might improve the recent power plan system properties. Concerning climate change, carbon capture is deemed as a promising solution to prevent CO2 emissions. CO2 capture, storage, and utilization are garnering intensive interest from scientists worldwide. This review paper identifies and gave particular attention to the literature on the recent CO2 capture technologies, for example, adsorption, absorption, membrane, and algae‐based separation techniques for pre‐combustion, oxy‐fuel combustion, and post‐combustion periods. Aside from all of these capture technologies, the utilization and application of captured CO2 in various industrial fields such as solvents, chemicals, and fuels are evaluated. There are many types of methods for monitoring atmospheric greenhouse gases, and the differences between the methods have introduced many uncertainties for the accurate monitoring of atmospheric greenhouse gases. In this paper, the monitoring methods of 7 long-lived greenhouse gases (LLGHG), including carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), nitrous oxide (N2O), hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), perfluorocarbons (PFCs), sulfur hexafluoride (SF6) and nitrogen trifluoride (NF3), which are regulated and controlled in the Kyoto Protocol and the Doha Amendment, were summarized, and the principle, characteristics and application research progress of each method were systematically studied. Besides, their application scope was analyzed, and the domestication research of relevant instruments was analyzed and prospected. At present, the monitoring methods of atmospheric greenhouse gases are developing towards automation and multi-component simultaneous rapid detection, and are accelerating its integration with new technologies such as big data and satellite remote sensing monitoring; top-down and bottom-up methods are used to provide strong data support for carbon peaking and carbon neutral management decisions in various countries. German industry is committed to climate targets, but faces uncertainty regarding feasible transformation pathways in terms of future renewable energy availability, the speed of technology development, and the future regulatory framework. The Carbon2Chem® project aims to develop flexible solutions for the chemical utilization of CO/CO2 in various industries with hard‐to‐abate CO2 emissions. This paper presents general strategies for using Carbon2Chem® technology in the transformation process to reduce CO2 emissions and provide sustainable feedstocks to the chemical industry, both in the short and long term. Bioadsorbent, obtained as a result of the processing of bio-waste, has recently gained popularity as a material that adsorbs greenhouse gases, mainly carbon dioxide. Bio-waste, mainly residues from food industry operations, is a waste to be landfilled or composted and can be a potential substrate for bioadsorbent production. Bioadsorbents used for carbon capture must, above all, have low production costs and high adsorption efficiency. This review covers popular bioadsorbents that have been tested for their ability to adsorb carbon dioxide. The paper compares bioadsorbent production methods, physicochemical properties, adsorption isotherms, surfaces, and their porosity. There is a lack of data in the literature on the topic of carbon dioxide adsorption on large-scale plants in the target environment. Tropical climate-smart agriculture could be a cost-effective and scalable nature-based solution toward achieving net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the coming decades. Nevertheless, the lack of integrated on-farm CO 2 , CH 4 , and N 2 O flux measurements remains a barrier to including these systems in certification programs and the carbon (C) market. This systematic literature review critically examines field-measured GHG emission studies within climate-smart agri-systems in Brazil, aiming to: (i) integrate GHG-measured data, (ii) explore geographical representativeness and connections between organizations and authors, (iii) analyze distributions of studied GHG molecules, climate-smart system types, and productive components, (iv) conduct a meta-analysis on the adoption of climate-smart agriculture, and (v) identify methodological and scope gaps, providing insights for future research directions. The systems considered include no-till, well-managed pasture, integrated crop-livestock, and integration with trees (i.e., crop-forestry, livestock-forestry, crop-livestock-forestry, and multistrata agroforestry). Out of 1200 papers mentioning GHGs and climate-smart systems, 74 contained reliable on-farm flux measurements. Most authors were Brazilians affiliated with Embrapa and public Universities. Studies concentrated on the Atlantic Forest and Cerrado, with scarce data for other biomes. Over half of the trials assessed individual GHG molecules and only one climate-smart system. Urochloa spp. and Avena spp. were the most studied forage genera, while soybeans and corn dominated annual crops. Eucalyptus spp. and beef cattle were common trees and animals. No-till, integrated crop-livestock, and agricultural integrations involving trees showed soil C–CH 4 influx from 0.8 to 1.0 kg ha−1 y−1. Transitioning from pasture monoculture to integrated systems decreased N–N 2 O emissions by up to 1.63 kg ha−1 y−1. Converting extensive grazed land to intensified-integrated systems reduced animal CH 4 intensity, with cuts of up to 122 g CH 4 per kg of average daily weight gain. Future research must urgently address methodological issues, such as de-standardization (e.g., 8–10 flux units found per GHG molecule) and the absence of crucial ancillary variables. In conclusion, adopting diversified climate-smart agri-systems shows potential to mitigate GHG emissions, but caution is advised when extrapolating our numerical findings due to limited data across Brazilian edaphoclimatic conditions. We urge scientists to prioritize frequent on-farm measurements of all three GHGs (CO 2 , N 2 O, and CH 4) along with agroecosystem C sequestration across multiple climate-smart systems, enabling reliable and comparable net GHG flux calculations to identify the most sustainable option. Advancing and standardizing GHG measurements in Brazil offer an opportunity to enhance GHGs inventory accuracy, calibrate models, and promote policies and investments that expand refined tropical climate-smart agriculture.
