Production platforms present an attractive solution to managing increasing product variety in production systems. Forming production systems platforms can potentially facilitate changeable manufacturing and co-development of products and production systems. One of the first steps in developing a production platform is the identification of the potential candidates. A scheme for classification coding of production systems is presented. Coded production systems can be compared across a manufacturer’s departments in order to identify commonalities between systems, and thus identify candidates for platform development. The production system classification code consists of four sub-codes with four to ten digits each describing physical or logical characteristics on production system or cell levels. The four sub-codes are structured into blocks of classification code, which digitally represent and describe complete production systems. They facilitate the comparison and identification of similarity and commonality patterns using the code digits and values. A production system case study is used for illustration and is represented as a block of code following the developed coding scheme. The production systems classification code can be used as a decision support tool in the early phases of production systems platform development, and for capturing information on the rationale, structure, processes and enablers of flexible and changeable production systems.

This paper conducts an in-depth study on the current problems of decentralized and single teaching resources, and combines the characteristics of immersion and interaction of virtual reality technology to build an online professional teaching resource library platform for virtual simulation. From the platform development standards, platform construction design and platform application flow, this paper makes a detailed research and illustration to provide reference for researchers engaged in the reform of professional teaching resource library platform.

This paper describes the work pursued within the TV-assistdem project, an AAL initiative, the aim of which is to develop a technological tool to facilitate remote support to patients affected by Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI). The idea is to exploit TV-based transmission of data and video-interactivity among health-professionals, patients, caregivers and family members to support MCI older users. The objective of TV-assistdem goes beyond the realisation of the necessary technological effort, and extends to the delivery of a longitudinal experimentation on an European scale. The paper gives an overview of the project and presents the results of the user requirements elicitation effort carried out during the first phase involving users to gather valuable indications for the platform development. A presentation of the platform functionalities is also provided and the current status of the implementation effort is finally presented.

This paper is about the models translation support for mobile robotic platform simulation. Application of expert system and multilanguage translation tools were proposed to hasten and simplify the process of models’ code generation in the required format at mobile robotic platform development. Usage of intelligent support and the created translating module was explained and illustrated on the example of models conversion into the format required for Robot Operating System. The Developed application was examined and the results were reviewed.

Online discussion platforms have the potential to support or even improve older adults’ well-being. Nonetheless, potential health benefits are often shaped by the usability of such platforms. Improving usability is imperative to maximize these potential benefits. As a part of a qualitative analysis of a study of an online community for older adults with frailty symptoms, we developed and refined a coding scheme targeting usability. The scheme was derived by reviewing contemporary literature on user experience, usability, and health information technology in older adults. Our review revealed challenges to apply commonly used terms to summarize our qualitative data. For example, the concept of perceived usability has different meanings and definitions in existing frameworks as they pertain to user engagement and technology adoption (specifically, the Technology Acceptance Model) than usability in an online discussion context for older adults. Because none of the meanings of usability fully encompassed the breadth of this concept for older users, we developed a coding scheme that is practical and captures a broad range of older adults’ perceptions of usability. Through qualitative analysis of the online discussion content using the newly developed coding scheme, new themes emerged such as confusing layout (e.g., difficulty in locating discussion boxes), insufficient instruction or training (trouble posting discussions), unwanted results (e.g., pressed a wrong key), and memory issues and cognitive burden. This presentation describes the process of developing a coding scheme, illustrates nuances of meanings in concepts related to usability, and presents preliminary results of our qualitative analysis.

This paper was studied on the important function of mobile interactive model for the Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) under Chinese context. We did empirical study to find out which function should be considered when designing a mobile MOOC platform. The author conducted a questionnaire in Distance Education School of Zhejiang University from the perspective of the main online learning users. We used the method of factor analysis by SPSS16.0 to analyze the research results. Through simplifying the interactive function of each module and analyzing the research results, the important function of mobile interactive model for MOOC composed of 5 modules and 7 factors were put forward. Our works have certain reference to the study of platform development and development for MOOC. Keywords: Mobile learning, Interactive mode, Factor analysis, MOOC.

This paper proposes an open healthcare platform structure design and suggests an authenticated registration process that links to a mobile device to enable convenient registration and sharing of diverse types of medical devices and services. Furthermore, in order to verify the effectiveness of the proposed registration method, the paper introduces and implements a health IoT-based mobile application. This research was completed with the intent that the results will contribute to user authentication and platform development for IoT-based medical devices in the future

Classifying and abstracting the temporal information of land environment in this paper, from the aspects of air, earth and life, analysising temporal logic and description in geographic entities of land environment, abstract lot to spatial objects, exploring that the definition of space object, temporal evolution and organization and storage methods of dynamic spatio-temporal data; combining closely the object-oriented with the SOA, constructing a model that SOA-based spatio-temporal data frame of "air-earth-life" in land environment. Studies have shown that, it’s the internal demand and the inevitable choice for platform development of integrated information management in land environment to construct by using SOA.

The sentiment information implied in the content of Social Networking Services (SNS) is of great technical and social significance, which has attracted a lot of researchers in different fields. Chinese text sentiment analysis is still in its starting stage, and most of the previous sentiment analysis algorithms are either inaccurate or inefficient. The purpose of this paper is to propose an algorithm performing well in both accuracy and efficiency, and apply it into a real time platform. A sentiment analysis algorithm on Chinese micro-blog content is introduced firstly, which achieves an outstanding accuracy but performs badly in efficiency. Then we optimize it with three strategies: data structure optimization, query strategy optimization, and parallel optimization. The experiment shows these strategies are very effective and the optimized algorithm is over 100 times more efficient than the basic algorithm. Based on the optimized algorithm, a text sentiment analysis platform is developed for real time sentiment. The platform offers two main functions including text sentiment analysis and user sentiment timeline. The results are outputted through a group of open APIs, which can be revoked by other developers and reduces their development costs. As a whole, the platform performs well on responding rate, capacity of concurrent users, stability and expandability.

In a recent project aimed at building a general purpose embedded application development platform, we developed an Eclipse-based IDE to accelerate our embedded development process, codify our Linux embedded software development knowledge on one extensible platform, and standardize tools, scripts, and libraries within our organization. This paper shows the approach that we used to collect domain-specific experience, component-based layered architecture of Eclipse-based platform, and our experiences on Eclipse.

This talk will give an overview of the 5-year National Basic Research Program of China (also known as the 973 Program) on Wireless Sensor Networks that was launched in September 2006 and sponsored by the Ministry of Science and Technology. This national research project involves researchers from many major universities in China and Hong Kong, and aims to tackle fundamental research issues rising in three major application domains: coal mine surveillance, water pollution monitoring, and traffic monitoring and control. The distinctive feature of this project is that it will present a systematic study of wireless sensor networks, from node platform development, core protocol design and system solution development to critical problems. This talk will address the research challenges, current progress, and future plans.

We discuss the development of a prototype of a multiuser online edutainment platform to provide an immersive and engaging learning and teaching experience. This project is aimed at developing a cyberworld with game-based learning modules that have collaborative, intuitive, assistive, and educational features. Users (teachers, students, contributors) will be able to select, customize, sequence, and integrate edutainment content in a modular way. This mechanism is inspired from the in-game level design engine technology in videogames. To support learners with physical and mental disabilities, technologies such as intelligent agents and assistive devices are employed. Edutainment modules to assist patients in rehabilitation and to support children with specific learning disabilities are developed. This platform is developed and evaluated in 4 stages: standalone, integrated, online, and multiuser. To ensure scalability and transferability, this platform is developed based on the SCORM standard.
