The International Conference on Advances in Plasma Science and Technology (ICAPST-20) was held for the first time on February 12–14, 2020. The host institution was the Sri Shakthi Institute of Engineering and Technology, Coimbatore, India. As Dr. K. The combined IEEE International Conference on Plasma Science (ICOPS) (held annually) and Pulsed Power Conference (held biennially) are merged once every six years, sponsored by the Plasma Science and Applications Committee (PSAC) and the Pulsed Power Science and Technology Committee (PPS&T) of the IEEE Nuclear and Plasma Science Society (NPSS). The joint conference, called the Pulsed Power and Plasma Science Conference, was held on June 23–28, 2019, in Orlando, FL, USA. The conference’s technical program included a wide range of topics, which ranged from fundamental research to traditional and emerging technology applications. The conference had over 800 accepted abstracts, representing scientists from over 30 countries. The program also included a minicourse on “Computational Methods in Plasma Physics.” This year the PPPS sessions were enhanced by a number of exceptional plenary talks. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The editorial is intended to serve as an introduction to a new series of Special Issues in the "IEE Transactions of Plasma Science." Beginning with this issue of selected contributed oral papers from the International Conference on Plasma Science (ICOPS) 2003. It was decided that candidates papers for the special issue would be limited to subset of all papers actually presented at ICOPS. nominations from oral contributed papers for the selection process for this Special Issue. The manuscripts represented in this Special Issue are drawn from all the disciplines of plasma science represented at ICOPS.
