Mild keratoconus is diagnosed through wavefront aberrometry while advanced cases are diagnosed through the so-called Munson's sign. A procedure is suggested for arresting keratoconic progression while keratoplasty or corneal transplantation is necessary in extreme cases. Rigid gas-permeable contact lenses are the recommended primary treatment to restore functional vision.

According to the author, studies have shown that solution-induced corneal staining (SICS) is not linked with increased risk of microbial keratitis (MK), but associated with decreased comfort.
