In this experiment, fenvalerate antibodies were immobilised on the electrode by the crosslinking with glutaraldehyde modified on the glassy carbon electrode (GCE) via chitosan. Fenvalerate was measured by the increase of electron transfer resistance when the immune reaction occurred with Fe(CN)6(3-)/Fe(CN)6(4-) as the probe. Under optimal conditions, the change of resistance is in a linear relationship with the logarithm of the concentration in the range of 1.0×10(-3)∼1.0×10(1)mg/L (R=0.998) with a detection limit of 0.80 μg/L. This method bears such merits as simplicity of operation, high sensitivity, wide linear range, specificity, reproducibility and good stability. The immunosensor was applied in the detection of real samples of tea, achieving satisfactory results, and it could be regenerated after being placed alternately in 0.5 mol/L HCl and 0.5 mol/L NaOH solutions., (Copyright © 2013 Elsevier Ltd. Metal-organic frameworks have been the subject of intense research because of their unique physicochemical properties. The presented study investigates the application of multi-wall carbon nanotubes and metal-organic frameworks (MWCNTs@Cu3(BTC)2) nanoparticles-modified electrode for the determination of trace levels of lead. The nanocomposites were prepared by solvothermal synthesis and characterized in detail. The experimental procedure was carried out by accumulating lead on the electrode surface and subsequently measuring with differential pulse anodic stripping voltammetry in a lab-on-valve format. The main parameters affecting the analytical performance, including the amount of MWCNTs@Cu3(BTC)2 suspension, supporting electrolyte and its pH, stripping mode, and flow rate, have been investigated in detail. Under the optimum conditions, the oxidation peak current displayed a calibration response for lead over a concentration range from 1.0 × 10(-9) to 5.0 × 10(-8) mol L(-1) with a excellent detection limit of 7.9 × 10(-10) mol L(-1). The relative standard deviation of 7 successive scans was 3.10% for 1.0 × 10(-8) mol L(-1) lead. The established method showed a great improvement in sensitivity and sample throughput for lead analysis.

A Fe(3)O(4)/multiwall carbon nanotubes/β-cyclodextrin (Fe(3)O(4)/MWCNTs/β-CD) modified electrode, for highly sensitive and automated hypoxanthine measurements, was developed in a sequential injection lab-on-valve system. The electrochemical oxidation behavior of hypoxanthine was investigated in phosphate buffer solution by cyclic voltammetry and linear sweep voltammetry. The Fe(3)O(4)/MWCNTs/β-CD modified electrode exhibits preferably analytical characteristics in electrocatalytic activity towards the oxidation of hypoxanthine. Under optimized conditions, the log oxidation peak current intensity was proportional to log hypoxanthine concentration covering the range from 5.0×10(-8) to 1.0×10(-5) mol L(-1) with a correlation coefficient of 0.9965. A detection limit of 0.3×10(-8) mol L(-1) was achieved along with a sampling frequency of 20 h(-1). This hyphenated system offers some advantages in terms of rapidness, sensitivity and ease of manipulation. An ultrasensitive electrochemical method for simultaneous determination of lead and cadmium was first developed using the novel bismuth-Nafion-medical stone doped disposable electrode (an improved wax-impregnated graphite electrode). Through the synergistic sensitization effect of the resulting composite material, the disposable electrode showed remarkable electrochemical responses to lead and cadmium. The oxidation of the two metals produced two well-defined and separated square wave peaks at about -0.62 V for Pb(2+) and -0.85 V for Cd(2+), respectively. The effects of the amount of medical stone, concentration of Nafion, thickness of bismuth, pH of buffer solution, deposition potential, accumulation time, voltammetric measurement and possible interferences were investigated in detail. Under the optimal conditions, the fabricated electrode exhibited linear ranges from 2.0 to 12.0 μg L(-1) with detection limit of 0.07 μg L(-1) for lead and 2.0-12.0 μg L(-1) with detection limit of 0.47 μg L(-1) for cadmium. A novel photoelectrochemical sensor for detection of the organophosphorus pesticide (OP) dichlofenthion using nanometer-sized titania coupled with a screen-printed electrode is presented. Nonelectroactive dichlofenthion can be indirectly determined through the photocatalytical degradation of dichlofenthion with nanometer-sized titania. The electrochemical characterization and anodic stripping voltammetric performance of dichlofenthion were evaluated using cyclic voltammetric (CV) and differential pulse anode stripping voltammetric (DPASV) analysis, respectively. DPASV analysis was used to monitor the amount of dichlofenthion and provide a simple, fast, and facile quantitative method for dichlofenthion. Operational parameters, including the photocatalysis time, pH of buffer solution, deposition potential, and accumulation time have been optimized. The stripping voltammetric response is linear over the 0.02-0.1 and 0.2-1.0 μmol/L ranges with a detection limit of 2.0 nmol/L. The assay result of dichlofenthion in green vegetable with the proposed method was in acceptable agreement with that of the gas chromatograph-mass spectrometer (GC-MS) method. The promising sensor opens a new opportunity for fast, portable, and sensitive analysis of OPs in environmental samples.

The miniaturized lab-on-valve (LOV) manifold well hyphenated with indirect biamperometry is presented for automated determination of trace level concentrations of organic environmental pollutants by programmable flow. The experimental procedure was carried out by means of taking o-phenylenediamine (OPDA) as a model analyte, relying on the Fe(iii)/Fe(ii) couple that served as an indicating redox system. The miniaturized electrochemical flow cell (EFC) designed and processed was integrated into the LOV module which is assembled with two identical polarized platinum electrodes between which a small potential difference (ΔE) was applied, to implement automated on-line analysis in a closed system. Factors affecting analytical performance are discussed, including indicating redox systems, concentration of indicating system, the acidity, the potential difference, and flow variables in the LOV. The calibration curve showed an excellent linearity in the concentration range of 5.0 × 10(-7) to 1.0 × 10(-4) mol L(-1) (R(2) = 0.9993). The limits of detection (LOD) and quantitation (LOQ) for OPDA were found to be 1.1 × 10(-7) and 3.7 × 10(-7) mol L(-1), respectively. A sampling frequency of 40 h(-1) was obtained along with an R.S.D. of 2.8% at 1.0 × 10(-6) mol L(-1) OPDA (n = 11). The proposed procedure was successfully applied to the assay of OPDA in industrial waste water.

A ultrasensitive, simple and convenient electrochemical method was firstly developed for the determination of prochloraz and its metabolites as 2,4,6-trichlorophenol (2,4,6-TCP) using nano-aperture medical stone. Compared with the undoped disposable electrode (UDE), nano-aperture medical stone doped disposable electrode (MSDDE) not only significantly enhances the oxidation peak current of 2,4,6-TCP but also lowers the oxidation overpotential, suggesting that the nano-aperture MSDDE can remarkably improve the sensitivity of 2,4,6-TCP. The experimental conditions such as pH values of buffer solution, the content of nano-aperture medical stone, accumulation potential and time were optimized for the determination of 2,4,6-TCP. At optimal conditions, the oxidation peak current is proportional to the concentration of 2,4,6-TCP over the range from 6.0 × 10(-9) to 8.0 × 10(-5)mol L(-1). Finally, this novel method was successfully employed to detect prochloraz and its metabolites in orange rind with the detection limit of 8.4 × 10(-10)mol L(-1) (0.3 ng g(-1)) and the method was validated by gas chromatography., (Copyright © 2010 Elsevier B.V. A new petentiometric method to determine peroxide hydrogen and glucose had been studied. This method had been applied on the petentiometric determination of peroxide hydrogen and glucose in the total ionic strength adjustment buffer (TISAB) (pH 7.5) solution with the glassy electrode modified by the calix[4]arene. The glassy carbon electrode covered with the calix[4]arene depended on the H(2)O(2) concentration in the range of log[H(2)O(2)] from -3.3 to -1.2 in the solution of TISAB (pH 7.5) with nearly Nernstian slope of about 65.6+/-3 mV and the detection limit of peroxide hydrogen was 4.0x10(-5) mol L(-1). The glassy carbon electrode covered with the calix[4]arene depended on the glucose concentration in the range of log[glucose] from -3.6 to -2.8 in the solution of TISAB (pH 7.5) with nearly Nernstian slope of about 50.2+/-2 mV and the detection limit of glucose was 2.0x10(-5) mol L(-1). The electrode had the good selectivity, sensitivity, stability and repeatability.

Serotonin (5-HT) is released from the enterochromaffin cells and plays an important role in regulating intestinal function. Although the release of 5-HT is well documented, the contribution of the serotonin reuptake transporter (SERT) to the levels and actions of 5-HT in the intestine is unclear. This study aimed to demonstrate real-time SERT activity in ileal mucosa and to assess the effects of SERT inhibition using fluoxetine. Electrochemical recordings were made from the mucosa in full-thickness preparations of rat ileum using a carbon fiber electrode to measure 5-HT oxidation current and a force transducer to record circular muscle (CM) tension. Compression of the mucosa stimulated a peak 5-HT release of 12 +/- 6 microM, which decayed to 7 +/- 4 microM. Blockade of SERT with fluoxetine (1 microM) increased the peak compression-evoked release to 19 +/- 9 microM, and the background levels of 5-HT increased to 11 +/- 7 microM (P < 0.05, n = 7). When 5-HT was exogenously applied to the mucosa, fluoxetine caused a significant increase in the time to 50% and 80% decay of the oxidation current. Fluoxetine also increased the spontaneous CM motility (P < 0.05; n = 7) but did not increase the CM contraction-evoked 5-HT release (P > 0.05, n = 5). In conclusion, this is the first characterization of the real-time uptake of 5-HT into the rat intestine. These data suggest that SERT plays an important role in the modulation of 5-HT concentrations that reach intestinal 5-HT receptors.

Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and cysteic acid based on electrochemical oxidation of L-cysteine (CySH) to form a novel composite thin film material at a glassy carbon electrode (GCE) for electroanalytical determination of nimesulide. The determination of nimesulide at the composite modified electrode with strong accumulation of nimesulide was studied by differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). The peak current obtained at +1.251 V (versus SCE) from DPV was linearly dependent on the nimesulide concentration in the range of 1.0 x 10(-7) -1.0 x 10(-5) M in 0.05 M H(2)SO(4) solution with a correlation coefficient of 0.997. The detection limit (S/N = 3) was found to be 5.0 x 10(-8) M. The low-cost modified electrode showed good sensitivity, selectivity, stability and had been applied to the determination of nimesulide in pharmaceutical formulation and human serum samples with satisfactory results.

Biomorphic calcium phosphate (CaP) microspheres with hierarchical porous structure were synthesized using natural cole pollen grains as templates and were further employed for the immobilization of horseradish peroxidase (HRP). Scanning electron microscopy and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy revealed (a) the porous structure of the CaP microspheres, (b) the effective immobilization, and (c) the retention of the conformation of HRP on CaP. The immobilized HRP was placed on a glassy carbon electrode where it underwent a direct, fully reversible, and surface-controlled redox reaction with an electron transfer rate constant of 1.96 s. It also exhibits high sensitivity to the reduction of HO The response to HO is linear in the 5.00 nM to 1.27 μM concentration range, and the sensitivity is 30357 μA⋅mM⋅cm. The detection limit (at an SNR of 3) is as low as 1.30 nM. The apparent Michaelis-Menten constant ( K) of the immobilized enzyme is 0.92 μM. This new CaP with hierarchical porous structure therefore represents a material that can significantly promote the direct electron transfer between HRP and an electrode, and is quite attractive with respect to the construction of biosensors. Benorilate was determined by the differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) using a carbon paste electrode in 1.25 x 10-3 mol . l-1 KH2PO4 and Na2HPO4 buffer solution (pH = 6.88, 25°C). The anodic peak potential was +1.020V (versus saturated calomel electrode (SCE)). A good linear relationship was realized between the anodic peak currents and benorilate concentrations in the range of 2.0 x 10-7 to 4.5 x 10-4mol . l-1 with the detection limit of 5.0 x 10-8mol . l-1. The recovery was 94.3 to 104.6% with the relative standard deviation of 3.5% (n = 9). The pharmaceutical preparations, benorilate tablets samples, were determined with desirable results. Abstract: This study was carried out to develop the application of modified carbon fiber electrode in environmental detection, by which chromium (III) ion in water could be electrochemically detected. The modified carbon fiber electrode manifested a linear response within the range of 1.9×10−6–4.6×10−4 molL−1 (R =0.9939) and the detection limit was 7.9×10−7 molL−1. The effect factors were studied to reveal the optimal conditions in the detection of chromium (III) in water, such as pH of total ionic strength adjustment buffer, the concentration of calix[4]resorcinarene, sweep cycles, and so on. The modified carbon fiber electrode, the diameter of which was about 7μm, was characterized by field emission scanning electron microscopy and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. Also, the proper mechanism was discussed. The identification of chromium (III) was mainly attributed to the cavity of the calix[4]resorcinarene that the chromium (III) ion could enter into the inner of calix[4]resorcinarene because of the particular structure of calix[4]resorcinarene. In this work, novel perovskite-type calcium titanate nanoparticles (CaTiO 3 NPs) were for the first time exploited for the immobilization of proteins and the development of electrochemical biosensor. The CaTiO 3 NPs were synthesized with a simple and cost-effective route at low temperature, and characterized by scanning electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopic spectrum, electrochemical impedance spectrum, UV–visible spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectrum, and cyclic voltammetry, respectively. The results indicated that CaTiO 3 NPs exhibited large surface area, and greatly promoted the direct electron transfer between enzyme molecules and electrode surface. The immobilized enzymes on this matrix retained its native bioactivity and exhibited a surface controlled, quasi-reversible two-proton and two-electron transfer reaction with an electron transfer rate of 3.35 s −1 . Using glucose oxidase as model, the prepared glucose biosensor showed a high sensitivity of 14.10±0.5 mA M −1 cm −2 , a wide linear range of 7.0×10 −6 to 1.49×10 −3 M, and a low detection limit of 2.3×10 −6 M at signal-to-noise of 3. Moreover, the biosensor also possessed good reproducibility, excellent selectivity and acceptable storage life. An electrochemical method for the indirect determination of acetamiprid was studied, using titanium dioxide photocatalysts coupled with a carbon paste electrode. The cyclic voltammetric results indicated that the photocatalytic degradation compound of acetamiprid had electroactivity in neutral solutions. The amount of acetamiprid was further indirectly determined by differential pulse anodic stripping voltammetric analysis as a sensitive detection technique. The experimental parameters were optimized with regard to the photocatalytic degradation time, pH of buffer solution, accumulation potential and accumulation time. Under optimal conditions, the proposed electrochemical method could detect acetamiprid concentrations ranging from 0.01 to 2.0 μM, with a detection limit (3 S/N) of 0.2 nM. Moreover, the proposed method displays excellent selectivity, good reproducibility, and acceptable operational stability and can be successfully applied to acetamiprid determination in vegetable samples with satisfying results. Abstract: Multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs)–nanoflake-like SnS2 nanocomposite were designed for immobilization of glucose oxidase (GOx). The direct electrochemistry of GOx and glucose sensing at MWCNTs–SnS2 modified glassy carbon electrode were studied. Compared with single MWCNTs or SnS2, the MWCNTs–SnS2 film has larger surface area and provides a more favorable microenvironment for facilitating the electron transfer between enzyme and electrode surface. The properties of GOx/MWCNTs–SnS2 were examined by scanning electron microscopy, UV–vis spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and cyclic voltammetry. The immobilized enzyme on MWCNTs–SnS2 composite film retained its native structure and bioactivity and showed a surface controlled, reversible two-proton and two-electron transfer reaction with a apparent electron transfer rate constant of 3.96s−1. The constructed glucose biosensor exhibits wider linear range from 2.0×10−5 M to 1.95×10−3 M, much lower detection limit of 4.0×10−6 M at signal-to-noise of 3 and higher sensitivity of 21.65mAM−1 cm−2 than our previous nanoflake-like SnS2-based glucose sensor. The proposed biosensor has excellent selectivity, good reproducibility, and acceptable operational stability and can be successfully applied in the reagentless glucose sensing at −0.43V. Abstract: In this paper, a facile electrochemical alloying–dealloying technique was performed in aqueous media to prepare a nanoporous platinum (Pt) electrode with high sensitivity for glucose sensing. A homogeneous Pt–Cu alloy was electrochemically deposited on a glassy carbon electrode at room temperature, and then Cu in the alloy was selectively dissolved by electrochemical method from the Pt–Cu alloy resulting in the nanoporous platinum film with a higher surface area. A roughness factor of the electrode was determined from the ratio of the true area to the geometric area, and it was up to 184. This nanoporous platinum exhibits high stability and remarkable catalytic activity for glucose oxidation in pH 7.0 PBS. It is also resistant toward poisoning by some common interfering species such as uric acid and p-acetamidophenol. Under the optimal experimental conditions, the nanoporous platinum film responded to glucose with a good linear dependence in the range from 1.00×10−5 to 8.14×10−3 M and the detection limit was 7.75×10−6 M (S/N=3). Abstract: A novel urchin-like In2O3–chitosan modified glassy carbon electrode (GCE) is for the first time prepared. The direct electrochemistry of glucose oxidase (GOD) immobilized on the surface of modified GCE and biosensing are studied. The urchin-like In2O3 nanostructure-based matrix has large specific surface area and provides a favorable and biocompatible microenvironment for promoting the direct electron transfer between proteins and electrode surface. The properties of different modified electrode are characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), electrochemical impedance spectra (EIS), UV–vis spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and cyclic voltammetry, respectively. The constructed glucose biosensor shows wide linear range (5.0×10−6 to 1.3×10−3 M), low detection limit (1.9×10−6 M), a Michaelis–Menten constant of 0.37mM. The proposed biosensor has good sensitivity, excellent selectivity, good reproducibility and stability. Abstract: This work exploited a sequential injection lab-on-valve (LOV) system for the determination of cadmium by anodic stripping voltammetry (ASV). A miniaturized electrochemical flow cell (EFC) was fabricated in LOV, in which a nafion coated bismuth film electrode was used as working electrode. The cadmium was electrodeposited on the electrode surface in bismuth solution, and measured with the subsequential stripping scan. Under optimal conditions, the proposed system responded linearly to cadmium concentrations in a range 2.0–100.0μgL−1. The detection limit of this method was found to be 0.88μgL−1. By loading a sample volume of 800μL, a sampling frequency of 22 determinations h−1 was achieved. The repeatability expressed as relative standard derivation (R.S.D.) was 3.65% for 20μgL−1 cadmium (n =11). The established method was applied to analysis of trace cadmium in environmental water samples and the spiked recoveries were satisfactory. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]
