Sustainable Development Projects (PDS) are settlements aimed at environmental conservation, through agricultural production activities associated with sustainability. However, many settlements suffer from anthropogenic activities (such as deforestation and burning) to prepare the soil. For this reason, this study aims to analyze the period from 2003 to 2018 at three-year intervals with the generation of thematic maps, which represent the variations of vegetation, anthropized areas and heat spots in relation to the occupation and management of the settlement area. For this, images from the Landsat 5/8 satellite from the INPE image catalog and data from BDQueimada were used, which were treated in the QGIS software using the Supervised Classification (SCP) method. Thus, resulting in the computation of 84 heat spots, 9.25 km 2 of anthropized area in the studied period. It should also be noted that in the period from 2015 to 2018, the greatest number of heat spots was observed, even with the reduction in the evolution of anthropized areas. So, it is possible to detect with this study the evolution in the hotspots and reduction of vegetation, from the use of geotechnologies to detect these points that offer conservation risk to the vegetation of the settlement.

The reduction of forest areas in recent years has influenced landscape fragmentation, compromising ecosystem functions. The natural forest, in addition to maintaining biodiversity, is capable of improving the hydrological conditions of the watershed. This study aimed to characterize the landscape structure of the remaining forest fragments in the São Bartolomeu river basin, at the Zona da Mata of Minas Gerais State, and to assess their physiographic and pedological representativeness. The study area is responsible for most of Viçosa’s water supply, while it is undergoing an urbanization process, reinforcing the need for ordering the use, besides the evaluation of priority areas for conservation. The studies related to the landscape structure were based on the metrics of forest fragments. The representativeness was analyzed regarding the aspects of topographic compartmentation, slope faces, and soils, using the Chi-square test. The natural forest presents fragments varying from medium to large size, with satisfactory proximity between them. However, the forest patches have irregular shapes, favoring the edge effect with a tendency towards irregularity as the fragment size increases. The results of the physiographic and pedological representativeness indicate that the land uses are dependent on the location in the landscape. According to the statistical test, the forest occurs less frequently than expected on the river terraces (48.3%) and convex slopes (2.3%), as well as on the Red-Yellow Acrisols (53.1%), and on the north (28.5%) and west (20.9%) faces. For urban planning and biodiversity conservation purposes, it is recommended to balance the forest area in the different compartments of the landscape, giving priority to the connection of forest fragments. RESUMO Nos últimos anos, a redução de áreas florestais tem influenciado na fragmentação da paisagem, comprometendo funções dos ecossistemas. A floresta natural, além da manutenção da biodiversidade, é capaz de melhorar as condições hidrológicas da bacia hidrográfica. Sendo assim, o objetivo deste estudo foi caracterizar a estrutura da paisagem dos fragmentos florestais remanescentes e avaliar a sua representatividade fisiográfica e pedológica na bacia hidrográfica do ribeirão São Bartolomeu, Zona da Mata mineira. A região de estudo é responsável pela maioria do abastecimento de água do município de Viçosa, ao mesmo tempo em que está passando por um processo de urbanização, reforçando a necessidade de um processo de ordenação de uso e avaliação de áreas prioritárias para conservação. Os estudos relacionados à estrutura da paisagem foram baseados nas métricas dos fragmentos florestais. A representatividade foi analisada quanto aos aspectos da compartimentação topográfica, das faces de orientação e dos solos, por meio do teste de Qui-Quadrado. A floresta natural apresentou fragmentos de tamanhos médios elevados e boa proximidade entre os fragmentos, contudo com formas irregulares que favorecem o efeito de borda, havendo uma tendência de irregularidade à medida que se aumenta o tamanho do fragmento. Os resultados das representatividades fisiográficas e pedológica mostraram que os usos do solo são dependentes da localização na paisagem. No resultado do teste estatístico, a floresta ocorre com menor frequência que o esperado nos terraços fluviais (48,3%) e encostas convexas (2,3%), nos Argissolos Vermelho-Amarelo (53,1%) e nas faces norte (28,5%) e oeste (20,9%). Para fins de planejamento urbano e conservação da biodiversidade, recomenda-se equilibrar a área florestal nos diferentes compartimentos, dando prioridade à conexão dos fragmentos florestais.

Recovering of degraded areas depends not only on the choice of native species to be planted, but also on the requirements of planted seedling species in terms of soil fertility, mainly in tropical areas. This study aims to assess the effects of calcium (Ca) and soil base saturation (V%) on the growth of seedlings of eight tree species native to the Atlantic Forest biome and commonly used in restoration plantings in the study region. Seedlings were grown in a greenhouse over a period of four months in Haplic Arenosol dystric soil with low calcium content and high aluminum saturation, and were subjected to four different treatments: (i) control; (ii) lime addition until V%=40 (V40); (iii) lime addition until V%=70 (V70); (iv) addition of calcium chloride and magnesium until V%=70 (VMg70). On average, seedlings treated only with lime (V40 and V70) gave similar results, showing an increase in both shoot and root dry plant biomass. Different absorption by species belonging to different successional groups were observed. Pioneer and early secondary species showed similar behavior regarding nutrient use efficiency. Seedling fertilization increases the chances of success of restoration plantings in degraded areas by favoring seedling biomass gain and nutrient absorption, and increasing overall V% through lime fertilization. The patterns for pioneer and secondary species found in this study could contribute to decision making in restoration projects and to native seedling production of white-sand forest native species.

In this study an economic analysis was conducted to evaluate problem associated with a geographical information system (GIS) using facility location models for the p-median in order to optimize the location of aerodromes for the aerial fertilization (coverage fertilization) of eucalyptus plantations. The location model was tested on a 9,095.65 ha farm located in the Tres Lagoas municipality in the Mato Grosso do Sul State, in Brazil. The non-capacitated p-median location model, available in ArcGIS, was evaluated in the location-allocation module. Simulations were performed based on one to five aerodromes. The fertilization and setup costs were calculated for each scenario. The results showed that the p-median location model was efficient in determining the optimal location of aerodromes. The economic analysis of the location model found that the lowest costs are incurred when using three aerodromes. Key words: Combinatorial optimization, operational research, aerial fertilization.

RESUMO O estudo foi realizado em todo o estado do Espírito Santo, com o objetivo de delimitar as Áreas de Preservação Permanentes (APPs) na ótica da Lei 12.651/2012 (Código Florestal) e ressaltar a importância de identificar as áreas de forma automática. Cada APP possui uma metodologia própria para o seu mapeamento, entretanto, todas foram mapeadas com o auxílio de geotecnologia. O estado possui 22,43% de sua área de APPs, distribuídas ao longo da faixa marginal dos cursos d’água (10,42%); no entorno de lagos e lagoas naturais (0,67%); no entorno dos reservatórios d’água artificiais (0,02%); no entorno das nascentes (0,89%); em encostas com declividades superiores a 45º (0,24%); em restingas (1,92%); em manguezais (0,19%); em topo de morros (8,98%); e em altitudes superiores a 1.800 metros (0,19%) da área total do estado. O presente estudo serve como subsídio técnico para avaliação e quantificação da APPs em um Estado, visto que é o primeiro em nível estadual no Brasil sobre o tema. ABSTRACT The study was conducted across the state of Espirito Santo, with the objective of limiting the Permanent Preservation Areas (PPAs) by optical law 12.651/2012 (forest code) and highlight the importance of identifying those areas automatically. Each PPA has its own methodology for their mapping, however, all were mapped with the aid of geotechnology. The state has 22.43% of its PPA area distributed along the marginal strip watercourses (10.42%); in the surroundings of lakes and natural ponds (0.67%); around the artificial water reservoirs (0.02%), in the vicinity of springs (0.89%) in the hillsides with slopes greater than 45° (0.24%); in restingas (1.92%); in mangroves (0.19%); on top of hills (8.98%); and in higher than 1800 meters (0.19%) of the total area of the state altitudes. This study serves as a technical subsidy for evaluation and quantification of PPAs in a State, since it is the first one in a state level in Brazil on the issue.

Biomass estimation plays an important role in forest management being applied in most carbon sequestration studies, assessment of forest succession, conservation of natural resources, quantification of nutrient cycling, energy planning where forest biomass is used as primary fuel for power generation and harvest planning and stock management in pulp industry. Using data from Advanced Visible and Near Infrared Radiometer type 2 (AVNIR-2) and Phased Array type L-band Synthetic Aperture Radar (PALSAR) sensors onboard Advanced Land Observing Satellite (ALOS), above-ground biomass (AGB) estimates were generated via artificial neural networks for a eucalyptus planting area in Minas Gerais State, Brazil. With 206 inventory plots, computed coefficient of determination between AGB estimates and observed values within validation sample was 0.95. Relative root mean square error was 2.87% with errors ranging from −8% to 4%. These results demonstrated artificial neural networks higher performance in modeling eucalyptus biomass based on Multispectral and SAR data over previous study, in which multiple linear regression method was applied in the same dataset, achieving R2 equal to 0.71.

Este trabalho teve como objetivo delimitar, de maneira automática, as áreas de preservação permanentes e identificar as ocorrências de conflitos legais de uso da terra na bacia do ribeirão São Bartolomeu, situada no município de Viçosa, Minas Gerais. Aplicando-se a técnica clássica de fotointerpretação visual em tela a uma ortoimagem do satélite Ikonos II, foi possível mapear 9 classes de uso e cobertura da terra. O mapeamento automático das áreas de preservação permanentes, com base no Código Florestal brasileiro e respectivas Resoluções do CONAMA, resultou na identificação de 1.530,67 ha de áreas protegidas, distribuídas nas seguintes categorias: ao longo dos divisores d'água (1.037,32 ha), encostas com declividades superiores a 45 graus (5,51 ha), nascentes e suas respectivas áreas de contribuição (436,06 ha), zonas ripárias (325,96 ha) e no topo de morros (27,96 ha). Essas áreas especialmente protegidas correspondem a 54,15 % da área total da bacia estudada, que é de 2.826,83 ha. Identificaram-se 905,14 ha (59,70 %) de APPs ilegalmente utilizadas em empreendimentos agropecuários, sendo as classes de pastagem com 40,06% (613,12 ha) e de cafezal com 7,12 % (109,02 ha) as principais ocorrências. The objective of this study was to map, automatically, the permanent preservation areas and to identify land use conflicts in São Bartolomeu watershed, State of Minas Gerais Brazil. Using an Ikonos II orthoimage and geoprocessing resources, it was possible to map nine land use land cover classes through a visual interpretation. Automatic mapping of the permanent preservation areas based on the Brazilian forest code and the respective acts of CONAMA resulted in the identification of 1,530.67 protected areas, distributed in the following categories: along ridgelines (1,037.32 ha), steep slopes greater than 45 degrees (5.51 ha), spring-waters and their contribution areas (436.06 ha), riparian zones (325.96 ha) and on upper third of hilltops (27.96 ha). This areas specially protected corresponded to 54.15 % of the total basin, which is 2,826.83 ha. It was identified 905.14 ha (59.70 %) of protected areas being illegally in agricultural business, with pasture with 40.06% (613.12 ha) and coffee with 7.12 % (109.02 ha), the predominant classes.

Este trabalho teve como objetivos mapear e classificar as áreas preservadas num projeto de base florestal. Foram classificadas, na região do Médio Vale do Rio Doce, no Leste do Estado de Minas Gerais, duas áreas com cobertura florestal nativa e plantações de eucalipto: Área de Cocais (região montanhosa) e Área de Ipaba (região de baixadas). Foram utilizados mapas, técnicas de interpretação visual de ortofotocartas, levantamentos de campo e análise de documentos sobre as áreas estudadas. A classificação dos estágios de sucessão seguiu os parâmetros estabelecidos na Resolução No 10 do CONAMA, de 1º de outubro de 1993. Foram elaborados diagramas de perfis verticais dos estádios de sucessão florestal e demais tipos vegetais mapeados nas áreas de estudo. Na região montanhosa sobressaíram, em área, os estágios inicial (52%) e médio (31%) e na região de baixadas, os estágios médio (33%) e inicial (23%). Nas regiões de montanhas e de baixadas, os fragmentos pequenos (< 5 ha), em maior número (69%), contribuíram com apenas 10% (2.462 ha) da área total preservada na região montanhosa e 6% (2.907 ha) na região de baixadas. Os fragmentos com mais de 50 ha, em menor número, com menos de 5%, contribuíram com 53% da área total dos fragmentos florestais na região montanhosa e com 67% na região de baixadas, indicando, em ambas, alta conectividade entre fragmentos. The objectives of this work were to map and classify the preserved areas in a forestry based project. In the region of the medium Vale do Rio Doce, located in the Eastern part of the State of Minas Gerais, two areas with native forest cover and eucalypt plantings were classified as follows: Areas of "Cocais" (hilly region) and Areas of "Ipaba" (lowland region). Maps, techniques of visual interpretation of orthophotocharts, field surveys and analyses of documents of the areas studied were used. The classification of the successional stages followed the parameters established in the No 10 Resolution of CONAMA, of October 1st, 1993. Diagrams of vertical profiles of the forest successional stages and those of the other plant types mapped in the area studied were made. In the hilly region the initial (52%) and medium (31%) stages were the major ones in the area. And in the lowland region, the medium (33%) and initial (23%) stages were in the majority. Both in the hilly and in the lowland region the small fragments (< 5 ha in greatest number 69%) contributed to only 10% (2,462 ha) of the total preserved area in the hilly region, and 6% (2,907 ha) in the lowland region. The large fragments, with more than 50 ha, with the smallest number, less than 5%, contributed to 53% of the total preserved area in the hilly region and with 67% in the lowland region, indicating, in both cases, a high connectivity among fragments.

A falta de estudos básicos necessários para o plano de manejo vem retardando a implementação efetiva de diversas Unidades de Conservação na região amazônica. Neste trabalho, interpretações de imagens orbitais e semiorbitais aliadas a trabalhos de campo foram utilizadas para a caracterização geoambiental da Floresta Nacional (FLONA) do Purus. Através da geração de mapas temáticos, criou-se uma base digital georreferenciada que constitui a primeira plataforma para o SIG da FLONA. Foram identificados quatro geoambientes principais: Platôs Dissecados com Mata sobre Latossolos e Argissolos; Encostas e Rampas com Mata sobre Argissolos; Planícies Aluviais Eutróficas com Neossolos Flúvicos e Gleissolos; e Planícies Aluviais Distróficas com Gleissolos. Os aluviões holocênicos na área sob influência do rio Purus são ricos em nutrientes (eutróficos), com influência de sedimentos subandinos. Em contraste, a maior parte da FLONA possui solos extremamente ácidos e pobres em nutrientes (distróficos), formados a partir do intemperismo de sedimentos da Formação Solimões. O manejo dessas áreas deve visar ao incremento do aporte de biomassa na superfície dos solos, aumentando a eficiência da ciclagem de nutrientes pela vegetação, já que a reserva química natural é extremamente baixa. The lack of basic studies for the elaboration of management plans has delayed the effective implementation of conservation units in the Amazon region. In this work, the interpretation of orbital and sub-orbital images, together with field surveys were used for the geoenvironmental characterization of the Purus National Forest (PNF). A georreferenced digital database composed of thematic maps was produced and constitutes the base of a GIS for the PNF. Four geoenvironments were identified and mapped: Dissecated Plateaux with forest vegetation on Latosols and Argisols; Forested slopes on Argisols; Alluvial plains with eutric soils; Alluvial plains with dystric soils. The holocenic alluviums influenced by the Purus River are eutric, and receive sub-Andenean sediments. On the other hand, most of the PNF has extremely poor and acid soils related to the Solimões Formation. Since the nutrient levels in the mineral substrate are very low, the management of these areas should seek the increment of biomass in the system, which would enhance nutrient cycling by the vegetation since the nutrient levels in the mineral substrate are very low.

Este estudo teve como objetivos elaborar um mapa de uso da terra com base nas imagens do satélite IKONOS II, delimitar de maneira automática as áreas de preservação permanente e identificar a ocorrência de conflitos de usos, tendo como referência legal o Código florestal e a Resolução n.º 303 do CONAMA. A pesquisa foi desenvolvida na entorno do Parque Nacional do Caparaó, pertencente aos municípios de Alto Jequitibá, Alto Caparaó, Caparaó e Espera Feliz, todos situados no estado de Minas Gerais. Utilizando os recursos disponíveis no geoprocessamento, foi possível mapear 8 classes de uso da terra e delimitar as áreas de preservação permanente situadas em áreas com altitudes superior a 1.800 metros (8,42 ha), no terço superior dos morros (18,67 ha); encostas com declividade superior a 45 graus (92,96 ha); nascentes e suas respectivas áreas de contribuição (1.989,44 ha); margens dos cursos d´água com largura inferior a 10 metros (3.957,19 ha); e no terço superior das sub-bacias (6.031,54 ha), perfazendo um total de 12.098,22 ha (48,06%) da área total da bacia. A área de uso indevido correspondeu a 8.922,91 ha (73,75%), sendo as classes cafezal (5.183,43 ha) e pastagem (3.650,74 ha) as principais ocorrências nessas áreas. Apenas 2.160,69 ha (18,40%) das áreas de preservação permanente estão protegidas por vegetação nativa. The objective of this work was to prepare a map of land use based on the IKONOS II sattelite images, to automatically determine the permanent preservation areas and to identify the occurrence of use conflicts, using as legal reference the Forest Code and the nº 303 Resolution of the CONAMA. The research was developed around the Caparaó National Park, in lands of the municipalities of Alto Jequitibá, Alto Caparaó, Caparaó and Espera Feliz, all of them located in the State of Minas Gerais. Using the resources available in the geographic processing, it was possible to map 8 classes of land use and to delimitate the permanent preservation areas located in regions above 1,800 meters of altitude (8.42 ha), the third upper part the hills (18.67 ha); an hillsides with slopes above 45 degrees (92.96 ha); water course margins with width below 10 meters (3,957.19 ha); and the upper third part the sub basins totalizing 12,098.22 ha (48.06%) of the basin total area. The area of improper use corresponds to 8,922.91 ha (45.49 %), being the classes coffee crop (5,183.43 ha) and clear pasture (3,650.74 ha) the main occurrences in these areas. Only 2,160.69 ha (18.40 %) of the permanent preservation areas are protected by natural vegetation.

RESUMOO presente trabalho teve por objetivo avaliar o potencial de utilização de imagens de satélites para mapeamento de fragmentos florestais monodominados por Myracrodruon urundeuva em Tumiritinga, MG. Foram avaliadas diferentes combinações de bandas multiespectrais para a classificação supervisionada de imagens Rapideye e TM - Landsat 5. O melhor resultado encontrado para a classificação da imagem Rapideye apresentou índice Kappa igual a 80 e Kappa Condicional para a classe aroeira monodominante igual a 90. Para a imagem TM - Landsat 5 os índices Kappa e Kappa Condicional para a classe aroeira foram respectivamente 80 e 76. Através dos mapas temáticos produzidos observou-se que 22% do município de Tumiritinga se encontra sob ocupação da aroeira em monodominância. Pode-se concluir que as imagens Rapideye e TM - Landsat 5 podem ser utilizadas no mapeamento do uso e cobertura do solo na região de estudo, e, no entanto, a imagem Rapideye mapeou fragmentos florestais com monodominância de aroeira com melhor acurácia. A análise do uso e cobertura do solo em Tumiritinga não retrata, para a região de estudo, o quadro anunciado de espécie ameaçada de extinção, no qual M. urundeuva se encontra. ABSTRACTThe aim of this work was to evaluate the potential of Landsat-TM5 and Rapideye images for the mapping of forests with monodominance of aroeira in the municipality of Tumiritinga, Minas Gerais state, Brazil. We assessed different combinations involving bands of multispectral image, principal components, and normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) for the supervised classification of Rapideye and Landsat/TM5 images. The thematic maps were evaluated by Kappa and conditional Kappa indexes for “aroeira” soil use class and by the analysis of Confusion Matrix. The best performance for the Rapideye classification showed Kappa 80 and Conditional Kappa 90 indexes. The best Landsat-TM5 classification produced Kappa 80 and conditional Kappa 76 indexes. The thematic map produced shows that 22% of the municipality is under the occupation of aroeira in monodominance. The study showed that both images can be used for mapping land use and land cover in Tumiritinga, and that Rapideye images produced best performance to mapping aroeira monodominance. The thematic map produced shows that 22% of the municipality is under the occupation of M. urundeuva in monodominance, and that this species is not endangered in Tumiritinga, Minas Gerais state.

Dentre as paisagens do médio rio Araguaia, destacam-se as extensas planícies e depressões sazonalmente alagadas. Nelas se inserem formações florestais higrófilas denominadas Ipucas, como enclaves peculiares pela sua fitossociologia e ambiente pedogeomorfológico. Esses fragmentos florestais naturais ocorrem na planície fluvial, em região de ecótono entre o Cerrado e a Floresta Amazônica. Neste estudo, foi selecionada uma área de 8.200 ha, situada no Município de Lagoa da Confusão, TO, sendo caracterizados nove perfis de solos em diferentes pedoambientes e suas inter-relações nas paisagens da planície do Araguaia, com ênfase nas áreas de Ipucas. Os pedoambientes apresentam grande diversidade, com amplo domínio de solos gleizados, pobres em nutrientes e com plintita em subsuperfície, com teores variáveis de carbono orgânico. Excetuando as áreas de calcário aflorante na borda elevada da planície, onde predominam Cambissolos Háplicos eutróficos com acentuada riqueza química, os solos predominantes no interior da planície do Médio Araguaia, dominantemente Plintossolos e Gleissolos, são acentuadamente pobres em nutrientes e ácidos, mesmo sob formações florestais de Ipucas. Nessas últimas, há um acúmulo de matéria orgânica pelo ambiente hidromórfico redutor e ácido. Por serem áreas extremamente frágeis a intervenções antrópicas, e pouco interligadas, as Ipucas devem ser consideradas áreas de preservação permanente, sendo estreitamente ligadas ao ciclo hidrológico da planície do Araguaia. Amongst the landscape features of Mid Araguaia river valley, there are vast coalesced floodplains and waterlogging depressions, all seasonally inundated. There, scattered forest fragments are found, being regionally called 'Ipucas', with peculiar floristic and geomorphic features. These forest fragments are elements of the natural transition zone (ecotone) between Amazonia Forest and Cerrado. We selected an area of approximately 8.200 ha in the municipality of 'Lagoa da Confusão', for detailed studies of nine soil profiles. All pedoenvironments were characterized, with emphasis on the Ipucas and their ecological relationships. There is a dominance of nutrient-depleted soils, most with gleying and plinthite, with varying amounts of organic carbon. Except for the Eutrophic Haplic Cambisols on calcareous substrate from the elevated border, all soils from the floodplain (Dystrophic Plinthosols and Gleysols) are acid and nutrient-poor, even under 'Ipucas' forest formation. In the Ipucas, organic matter accumulates due to acid-reducing condition, being extremely fragile to human intervention. For this reason, and considering the low degree of connection between forest fragments, Ipucas should be considered as permanent protected areas, being closely related to the overall hydrological cycle of the Araguaia floodplain.

Análises técnica e econômica foram realizadas em imagens dos sensores IKONOS, TM/Landsat 5, ETM+/Landsat 7 e CCD/CBERS, objetivando a verificação da viabilidade destas como base de dados em projetos de reforma agrária. Essas análises efetuadas e a situação de mercado indicaram que a imagem IKONOS apresenta excelente desempenho técnico, mas o custo de aquisição inviabiliza sua utilização como base de dados para a reforma agrária. A imagem do Landsat 7, com baixo custo de aquisição, apresentou grande viabilidade técnica para fins de reforma agrária. No entanto, a perda do contato com a plataforma Landsat 7 inviabilizou a compra de novas imagens do sensor ETM+. A imagem CCD/CBERS apresentou a segunda maior similaridade com a verdade de campo e o menor índice Kappa para a classificação. Apesar do baixo índice de exatidão para a classificação, as análises de custo, o lançamento do CBERS-2 e a possibilidade de correção dos problemas de radiometria podem tornar as imagens da plataforma CBERS-2 concorrentes de peso no mercado e, ainda, preencher a lacuna deixada pela perda do Landsat 7. A imagem do Landsat 5 apresentou o mais baixo desempenho técnico nas análises efetuadas. Entretanto, seu potencial como base de dados é amplamente reconhecido pelo INCRA, que ainda utiliza tais imagens. O declínio da vida útil do Landsat-5 atribui mais importância ao lançamento do CBERS-2. Technical and economical analyses were performed on IKONOS, Landsat TM 5 and Landsat ETM+ 7 and CCD/CBERS data in order to verify their feasibilities to subsidy agrarian reform projects. Results showed that IKONOS data presented excellent technical viability but its high cost prevents its use. Landsat ETM+ 7 data, with low cost, presented good technical viability, however due to the problems occurring in the satellite operation, its use was also prevented . CCD/CBERS data presented the second best similarity with the ground truth data, although it has presented the small kappa statistic index for the classification. With the launch of the CBERS 2, along with its low cost and possible radiometry correction, it is expected that CCD/CBERS can become a good source of data for agrarian reform projects. Landsat TM 5 data presented the worst technical viability, however, its low cost and potential use as data base is recognized by INCRA, which continues using it as the major source of data for agrarian reform projects.

Este estudo teve como objetivos elaborar um mapa de uso da terra com base nas imagens do satélite IKONOS II, delimitar de maneira automática as áreas de preservação permanente e identificar a ocorrência de conflito de uso, tendo como referência legal o Código florestal e a Resolução n. 303, do CONAMA. A pesquisa foi desenvolvida na bacia hidrográfica do rio Alegre, situada no sul do estado do Espírito Santo. Utilizando os recursos disponíveis no geoprocessamento, foi possível mapear 12 classes de uso da terra e delimitar as áreas de preservação permanente situadas no terço superior dos morros (49,7 ha); encostas com declividade superior a 45 graus (27,5 ha); nascentes e suas respectivas áreas de contribuição (1.975,6 ha); margens dos cursos d´água com largura inferior a 10 metros (2.818,3 ha); e no terço superior das sub-bacias (4.695,8 ha), perfazendo um total de 9.566,9 ha (45,95%) da área total da bacia. A área de uso indevido correspondeu a 7.499,7 ha (43,80%), sendo as classes cafezal (979,6 ha) e pastagem (6.179,8 ha) as principais ocorrências nessas áreas. Apenas 1.780,7 ha (18,61%) das áreas de preservação permanente estão protegidas por vegetação nativa.

Este trabalho teve como objetivo estimar a biomassa aérea de um fragmento de Floresta Estacional Semidecidual, situada no município de Viçosa-MG, através de imagens ortorretificadas do satélite IKONOS. Com base em dados de inventário florestal, conduzido em 15 parcelas de 1000 m² (20 m × 50 m), foram obtidas as estimativas dos estoques de biomassa aérea, a partir de equações alométricas. Estas estimativas foram relacionadas com variáveis digitais (reflectância nas quatro bandas multiespectrais e em 12 índices de vegetação), extraídas das imagens digitais, empregando-se Redes Neurais Artificiais (RNA). Os resultados mostraram que, para as condições da área de estudo, o emprego da técnica de RNA com apenas as bandas 1, 2, 3 e 4 do satélite IKONOS como variáveis de entrada foi eficiente para estimar a biomassa aérea total, embora os resíduos tenham sido ainda menores quando foram utilizadas as quatro bandas e os 12 índices de vegetação. The objective of this study was to use a set of orthorectified IKONOS satellite data to estimate aerial biomass in a semideciduous seasonal forest fragment located in Viçosa, state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. Estimates of above ground biomass were obtained with allometric equations based on forest inventory data conducted in fifteen 1,000 m² (20 m × 50 m) parcels. These estimates were related to digital variables (reflectance of four spectral bands and 12 vegetation indices) extracted from digital images using Artificial Neural Network (ANN). The results showed that for the conditions of the study area, the use of ANN with only bands 1, 2, 3 and 4 of the IKONOS satellite as input variables was efficient to estimate the total aerial biomass, although the residual was even lower when 4 bands and 12 vegetation indices were used.

A espécie florestal Myracrodruon urundeuva (Fr. All.) figura desde 1992 na lista de espécies da flora brasileira ameaçadas de extinção e, contudo, manifesta comportamento monodominante em algumas regiões do Estado de Minas Gerais, sobretudo na região do Médio Rio Doce. Este trabalho teve por objetivo comparar métodos de classificação supervisionada de imagens Rapideye para mapeamento de fragmentos florestais monodominados por Myracrodruon urundeuva em Tumiritinga, MG. Foram avaliadas a classificação pelo algoritmo da Maximaverossimilhança (Maxver) e a classificação por Redes Neurais Artificiais (RNA). Foram testadas 19 combinações envolvendo diferentes bandas, componentes principais e o índice de vegetação da diferença normalizada para a classificação da imagem Rapideye. O treinamento da rede foi realizado variando-se a taxa de aprendizado, o número de interações e o número de neurônios na camada interna. A avaliação dos mapas temáticos produzidos foi realizada através dos índices Kappa e Kappa condicional para a classe de uso do solo "aroeira" e pela análise das Matrizes de Confusão. O método que apresentou melhor desempenho foi a classificação de todas as bandas da imagem Rapideye pelo algoritmo Maxver, apresentando coeficientes Kappa 80 e Kappa condicional 90. O mapa temático gerado teve exatidão do usuário igual a 93% e exatidão do produtor igual a 90%, sendo as maiores confusões do classificador para a classe Aroeira Monodominante acometidas entre as classes Mata Nativa e Pasto Manejado. Da imagem temática produzida, extraiu-se a informação de que 22% do Município de Tumiritinga se encontrava sob ocupação da aroeira em monodominância. A análise do uso e cobertura do solo no município não retrata, na região de estudo, o quadro anunciado de espécie ameaçada de extinção, no qual M. urundeuva se encontra. M. urundeuva (Fr. All.) is a tree currently listed as endangered species of Brazilian Flora since 1992. However, it manifests monodominance in some regions of Minas Gerais state, especially in middle Rio Doce. The objective of this work was to compare supervised methods of classification of Rapideye images for forest fragments monodominated by Myracrodruon urundeuva mapping, in Tumiritinga, MG. The maximum likelihood (Maxlike) and the artificial neural networks (ANN) classification were assessed. Nineteen combinations involving different bands, the principal components and the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) were tested for classification of Rapideye image. The neural network training was conducted by varying the learning rate, the number of interactions and the number of neurons in the hidden layer. The thematic maps were evaluated by Kappa and conditional Kappa index for "aroeira" soil use class and by the analysis of the Confusion Matrix. The best performance was achieved by the Maxever algorithm using all bands of Rapideye image, getting a Kappa index of 80 and conditional Kappa index of 90. The thematic map presented user's accuracy equal to 93% and producer's accuracy equal to 90%. The greatest errors of classification for "aroeira monominant" class were related to the "native forest" and "managed pasture" classes. The thematic map produced shows that 22% of the town is under occupation of M. urundeuva in monodominance and this specie is not endangered in Tumiritinga, Minas Gerais.

O objetivo deste trabalho foi mapear e quantificar as áreas de preservação permanente (APPs) de acordo com a Resolução no 303/02 do CONAMA para, então, com base no mapa de uso da terra e cobertura vegetal, identificar e quantificar os eventuais conflitos de uso da terra, com vistas a nortear o cumprimento da lei e promover o uso adequado dos recursos da sub-bacia hidrográfica do rio Camapuã/Brumado, MG. Utilizaram-se uma imagem digital do sensor ETM+/LANDSAT 7, bases cartográficas planialtimétricas do IBGE para a área de estudo, e os softwares Anudem 5.2, Erdas Imagine 9.2 e ArcGIS 9.3. As APPs ocuparam 63.095 ha, representando 57,0% da área total da sub-bacia (110.711,9 ha). Com relação às categorias de APPs, o terço superior da bacia, ao longo das linhas de cumeada, correspondeu a 52,6% dos 63.095 ha; as zonas de proteção às margens dos cursos d'água, a 31,4%; a proteção das nascentes, a 15,6%; e as encostas com declividade superior a 45° e o terço superior de morros totalizaram 0,4%. As áreas de terço superior da bacia, ao longo das linhas de cumeada, foram as mais desrespeitadas (55,9%), seguidas das margens de curso d'água (23,12%), proteção de nascentes (20,83%), encostas com declividade superior a 45° (0,3%) e terço superior de morros (0,1%). Foram identificados 21.939,3 ha de APPs sendo explorados por atividades agropecuárias, o que representa 34,8% do total de APPs. Entretanto, constatou-se que 30.734,3 ha dos 47.616,9 ha situados fora das áreas de APP, i.e., 64,5% das áreas legalmente passíveis de conversão de uso da terra, estavam cobertos por vegetação nativa. Encontraram-se sólidas evidências de que a falta de conhecimento a respeito da espacialização das APPs dentro da propriedade é a principal causa do descumprimento da lei. A delimitação e espacialização das APPs pelo geoprocessamento viabilizam a aplicação da legislação florestal, contribuindo notoriamente para minimizar os conflitos de uso da terra e evitar a degradação dos remanescentes florestais pela formação de corredores ecológicos naturais que mitiguem os efeitos deletérios da fragmentação de habitats. The major bottleneck towards environmental compliance and law enforcement in Brazil is the lack of up-to-date maps accurately depicting the boundaries of protected areas as set by the Forest Code. A detailed study carried out over the Camapuã/Brumado watersheds, based on CONAMA's Act nº 303/2002, was meant to identify and quantify eventual land use legal conflicts. An ETM+/LANDSAT 7 digital image, topographic datasets and the softwares Anudem 5.2, Erdas Imagine 9.2 and ArcGIS 9.3 were used to create visual depictions of both permanent preservation areas (PPA) and land use/land cover. PPAs corresponded to 57,0% of the total area of the watersheds (110.711,9 ha), being 52,6% located on the upper third of hills along the watersheds' divides, 31,4% on riparian zones, 15,6% around springs and their drainage areas and 0,4% combining the areas situated on hillsides with slopes greater than 45° and on the upper third of hills. On one hand, farming activities were identified on 22.000 ha, representing 35% of the protected areas. On the other hand, 31.000 ha, accounting for 65% of the total area that could be legally converted to agricultural lands, were still preserved by native vegetation. These empirical evidences corroborate the hypothesis that the lack of suitable maps showing the limits of protected areas - a responsibility of Brazilian government - forces farmers to operate on the margin of the law, being the primary cause of illegal land use.

Conduziu-se este trabalho, com o objetivo principal de identificar e quantificar os fragmentos florestais aptos para averbação como reserva legal, nos imóveis rurais da bacia hidrográfica do ribeirão São Bartolomeu, município de Viçosa, MG. Os procedimentos metodológicos incluíram: 1) o mapeamento de 78 fragmentos florestais mediante interpretação visual de uma imagem Ikonos II ortorretificada; 2) a delimitação das Áreas de Preservação Permanente a partir de um modelo digital de elevação hidrograficamente condicionado e 3) o mapeamento de 292 imóveis rurais por meio de entrevistas com os proprietários, utilizando uma imagem do sensor Ikonos no formato analógico. Em seguida, efetuaram-se cruzamentos dos mapas gerados, permitindo a identificação dos fragmentos passíveis de serem averbados como reserva legal do imóvel. Os resultados indicaram que, do total de imóveis avaliados, apenas 41 (14,04%) possuem acima de 20% de cobertura florestal, estando aptos a atenderem a legislação ambiental no que se refere à reserva legal. The major objective of this work was to identify and quantify forest fragments suitable to be used as private protected land in rural properties located in the São Bartolomeu creek watershed, State of Minas Gerais, Brazil. The methodological procedures included: mapping of 78 forest fragments through the visual interpretation of an Ikonos II satellite image; delineation of Permanent Preservation Areas (PPAs) from a hydrographically conditioned digital elevation model and mapping of 292 rural properties through interviews with owners, with the aid of a printed Ikonos II image. The generated maps were overlapped (crossed), allowing the identification of forest fragments that could be used as private protected land in rural property. The result indicated that, from the total of properties evaluated, only 41 (14.04%) have more than 20% of forest cover, and therefore, are in condition to attend the environmental law for private protected land.

Variáveis climáticas são essenciais para a compreensão das condições ambientais que influenciam o crescimento e o desenvolvimento vegetal. Nos últimos anos, as pesquisas que utilizam dados climáticos e técnicas de sensoriamento remoto em análises espaço-temporais da demanda por água e energia das plantas têm-se intensificado. O SEBAL (Surface Energy Balance Algorithms for Land) é um dos algoritmos mais destacados em estudos que envolvem estimativas dos fluxos de energia em grandes áreas, e pode ser aplicado com poucas medições de campo. Este trabalho, realizado no Município de Santa Bárbara, Minas Gerais, objetivou estimar os componentes do balanço de energia e, por conseguinte, a evapotranspiração em plantios de eucalipto com aplicação do algoritmo SEBAL e de imagem do sensor TM do satélite Landsat 5. As estimativas foram realizadas para cena do dia 20/06/2003. Considerando apenas as áreas referentes aos plantios de eucalipto (sete anos de idade), foram obtidos valores médios de saldo de radiação (Rn), fluxo de calor no solo (G), fluxo de calor sensível (H), fluxo de calor latente (LE) de 420,12 W m-2, 81,80 W m-2, 149,93 W m-2, 188,39 W m-2, respectivamente. Para a evapotranspiração real horária (ETr h), o valor médio obtido foi de 0,28 mm h-1. As estimativas mostraram-se condizentes com dados da literatura, no entanto pesquisas com maior controle experimental devem ser realizadas. Climatic variables are essential for understanding the environmental conditions that influence plant growth and development. In the last years, research works which use climatic data and remote sensing techniques in spatial and temporal analyses of the demand for water and energy in plants has been intensified. SEBAL (Surface Energy Balance Algorithms for Land) is one of the most prominent algorithms for studies involving energy flow estimates in large areas, and it can be applied with few field measurements. The objective of this work, conducted in the municipality of Santa Bárbara, Minas Gerais, Brazil, was to estimate energy balance components, and therefore the evapotranspiration in eucalyptus crops by applying the SEBAL algorithm and TM sensor image of the Landsat 5 satellite. Estimates were made for the scene on day 6/20th/2003. Considering only the areas related to the eucalyptus crops at seven years of age, it was obtained mean values of net radiation (Rn), soil heat flux (G), sensible heat flux (H) and latent heat flux (LE) of 420.12 W m-2, 81.80 W m-2, 149.93 W m-2, 188.39 W m-2, respectively. For actual hourly evapotranspiration (ETr h), the mean value obtained was 0.28 mm h-1. The estimates are consistent with literature data, but future studies with greater experimental control should be carried out.

Este trabalho teve como objetivo principal mapear as classes de cobertura e o uso da terra, bem como as áreas de preservação permanente (APPs) e de reservas legais de imóveis rurais. A área de estudo compreendeu parte dos municípios de Canaã, Araponga e Ervália, Estado de Minas Gerais. Foi utilizada uma imagem ortorretificada de alta resolução do sensor Ikonos II com 1 m de resolução espacial. A partir da interpretação visual da imagem, foram criadas sete classes temáticas, a saber: cobertura florestal, pasto sujo, pasto limpo, cafezal, edificações, área agrícola e reflorestamento. As APPs foram obtidas a partir de um modelo digital de elevação hidrologicamente consistente. Os resultados mostraram a predominância das classes de cafezal com 24,5% e de cobertura florestal com 28,8%, perfazendo mais de 50% da área de estudo. As áreas delimitadas como de preservação permanente totalizaram 55,1%. The main objective of this work was to map land use/land cover classes, permanent preservation areas and legal reserve areas in farms. The study area comprised part of the municipalities of Canaã, Araponga and Ervália, in the State of Minas Gerais, Brazil. A high resolution ortorectified image from the sensor Ikonos II with a 1-m spatial resolution was used for the study. The visual image interpretation generated 7 thematic map classes: forest cover, "clean" pasture and "overgrown" pasture, coffee plantation, build areas and areas of farming and reforestation. The permanent preservation areas were obtained from a hydrologically consistent digital elevation model. Results showed a predominance of the classes coffee plantation (24.5%) and forest cover (28.8%), totalizing more the 50% of the study area. Permanent preservation areas occupied 55.1%.

Este trabalho teve como objetivo comparar as imagens orbitais fornecidas pelos satélites CBERS-2, IRS-P6 e Quickbird para o mapeamento dos estádios de sucessão florestal, utilizando-se diferentes métodos de classificação de imagens digitais. A área de estudo incluiu as reservas de floresta nativa pertencentes ao projeto florestal Macedônia, localizado nos Municípios de Bugre e Ipaba, entre os paralelos 19º19'00"S e 19º24'30"S e os meridianos 42º27'00"W e 42º21'00"W, Estado de Minas Gerais. Foram utilizadas as classificações visual, por pixel e por regiões. Para fins de avaliação da fidedignidade da classificação de cada método, de forma particular, foi gerada a matriz de erros e calculado o índice Kappa. Para testar a significância estatística da diferença entre dois índices Kappa, foi utilizado o teste Z. De maneira geral, os melhores resultados foram as classificações obtidas nos métodos por regiões e visual, apresentando valores de Kappa mais elevados que as classificações por pixel; a imagem resultante da fusão da imagem IRS com a CBERS, classificada pelo método de regiões, obteve o melhor índice Kappa, estando dentro do nível considerado como bom. Os problemas de separação entre as classes resultaram em classificações com baixo nível de exatidão, o que pode ser explicado pela semelhança espectral entre os alvos (estádios inicial, médio e avançado de sucessão florestal), pequena variação entre os valores numéricos dos pixels, existência de sobreposição entre classes e baixa resolução espectral dos sensores. The objective of the present work was to compare the orbital images from the CBERS 2, IRS-P6 and the Quickbird satellites, for the mapping of the stadiums of ecological succession, using different methods of classification of orbital images. The study area included the native forest reserves of the Macedônia forest project, located in the cities of Bugre and Ipaba, between the parallels 19º19'00"S and 19º24'30"S and the meridians 42º27'00"W and 42º21'00"W, Minas Gerais state. The visual, per region and pixel-based classifications were used. In order to evaluate the classification accuracy of each method, a matrix of errors was generated and the Kappa index was calculated. The Z test was used in order to test the statistical significance of the difference between two Kappa indices. Altogether, the best results were the classifications obtained in the visual and region-based methods, with values of kappa higher than those for pixel-based classifications. The image resulting from the fusion of IRS and CBERS images, which were classified through the method of regions, obtained the best Kappa index, and was in the level considered as good. The problems of separation among the classes resulted in classifications with a low degree of accuracy. This can be explained by the spectral similarity present between the targets (initial, medium and advanced stadiums), the small variation among the numerical values of the pixels, the existence of overlapping among classes and the low spectral resolution of sensors.

O objetivo deste trabalho foi comparar procedimentos de amostragem para espécies florestais com populações raras e padrão de distribuição espacial agregado. Para isso, foi simulada uma população em uma floresta de 90 ha, subdividida em 100 unidades amostrais (N = 100) de 9.000 m² de área cada uma, apresentando número total de indivíduos igual a 44, a qual foi submetida a três procedimentos de amostragem: amostragem casual simples; amostragem sistemática; e amostragem adaptativa em cluster, com amostras iniciais selecionadas casual ou sistematicamente. Após as análises, verificou-se que a amostragem sistemática foi o melhor procedimento para estimar o número total de indivíduos da espécie em questão. Além disso, constatou-se a necessidade de investigar o efeito do tamanho e forma de parcelas, a escala de agregação e o tamanho da população, bem como suas combinações, sobre a eficiência dos estimadores da amostragem adaptativa em cluster. The objective of this work was to evaluate the procedure adaptive sampling procedure used in forest inventories for species with low population density and aggregated spatial distribution pattern, in relation to procedures normally used in forest inventories. Thus, a population was simulated in a 90 ha forest, subdivided into 100 units (N = 100) with areas of 9,000 m² each, presenting 44 individuals of a given species, and submitted to three sampling procedures: simple random sampling; systematic sampling and adaptive cluster sampling, with initial samples selected through simple random sampling and systematic sampling. After analyses, it was verified that the systematic sampling was the best procedure to estimate the total number of individuals of the studied species. Besides, it was observed the need of further investigation on the effect of the size and form of plots, the aggregation scale and size of the population, and their combinations, on the efficiency of the estimators of the adaptive cluster sampling.

O objetivo principal do trabalho foi analisar a dinâmica da estrutura da paisagem em um projeto de produção florestal, entre os anos de 1980 e 2004, enfatizando-se as alterações ocorridas na paisagem após a implantação de talhões de eucalipto. A área de estudo compreendeu os limites do projeto de produção florestal Macedônia, localizado nos Municípios de Bugre e Ipaba, região leste do Estado de Minas Gerais. O mapeamento do uso da terra referente ao ano de 1980 foi realizado por meio da interpretação visual de um mosaico de fotografias aéreas. Para o mapeamento do uso da terra referente ao ano de 2004, foi empregada uma imagem multiespectral do satélite Quickbird. A caracterização quantitativa da estrutura da paisagem foi descrita utilizando-se índices de ecologia da paisagem. Constatou-se que os plantios de eucalipto foram implantados em áreas de pastagem arborizada (45,2 %) e pastagem limpa (46,9%). Essas duas classes foram as que mais tiveram seu uso alterado; elas deram lugar principalmente a florestas nativas (15,6%). Constatou-se que, dos 938,6 ha das florestas nativas em 1980, 846,42 ha mantiveram inalteradas as respectivas áreas. A conectividade entre as reservas florestais nativas também diminuiu, de 165,04 m de distância mínima média entre elas em 1980 para 15,86 m no ano de 2004. O manejo integrado da propriedade alterou positivamente a estrutura da paisagem, alterando também o uso predominante destinado à produção de madeira e à preservação e conservação da biodiversidade. The main goal of this work was to analyze the dynamics of landscape structure in a Forest Production Project from 1980 to 2004,focusing on the changes in landscape after the implementation of eucalyptus stands. The study area corresponded to the limits of the Macedônia forest project, located in Bugre and Ipaba, in eastern Minas Gerais. The 1980 land use mapping was achieved through visual interpretation of a mosaic of air photographs. For the 2004 land use mapping, a multispectral image from the Quickbirb satellite was used. The quantitative characterization of landscape structure was described by using the landscape ecology indices. The eucalyptus plantations were confirmed to be implemented in tree-pasture areas (45.2%) and in open pasture (46.9%). These two classes presented the greatest alteration in use, giving place especially to native forests (15.6%). It was also confirmed that out of the 938.6 ha of the native forests existing in 1980, 846.42 ha did not suffer any alteration. The connection between the forest reserves also decreased from 165.04m of minimum average distance between them in 1980 to 15.86m in 2004. The integrated management of the property changed the structure of landscape positively,also altering the predominant use aimed to wood production, and biodiversity preservation and conservation..

Há, no âmbito do gerenciamento de recursos hídricos, uma carência por sistemas de aplicação global que referenciem, indiquem e identifiquem, de forma única e eficiente, a organização espacial das bacias hidrográficas e respectivas redes de drenagem. Neste trabalho, propôs-se uma modificação no sistema de endereçamento originalmente concebido por Otto Pfafstetter. A nova metodologia utiliza tão-somente as redes de drenagem no formato vetorial e considera, em vez da área das bacias, o comprimento dos seus cursos d'água para codificá-los. Essa estratégia elimina o elevado ônus associado à obtenção de dados de altimetria e à derivação dos respectivos modelos digitais de elevação, imprescindíveis à correta determinação das áreas de contribuição das bacias hidrográficas. Adicionalmente, elimina-se o esforço computacional das operações baseadas em localização espacial, uma vez que agora é possível realizá-las exclusivamente por atributos. Com base nessa metodologia, desenvolveu-se o aplicativo Otto-Sys, utilizando a linguagem de programação AML, nativa do sistema de informações geográficas Arc/INFO workstation. Para exemplificar os resultados da otto-codificação por comprimento dos cursos d'água, apresentou-se um estudo de caso utilizando a rede de drenagem do rio Caeté, afluente do rio Iaco, pertencente à bacia do rio Purus, no Estado do Amazonas. O detalhamento dessa hidrografia vetorial implicou cinco níveis de codificação. Tendo-se codificado toda a rede hidrográfica, qualquer sistema de informações geográficas, mesmo aqueles que não dispõem de recursos específicos para análises e navegação em redes, poderá oferecer serviços de navegação topológica, organização, estruturação, endereçamento e gerenciamento dessas bases de dados. Desse modo, o acesso em tempo real a tais procedimentos poderá ser perfeitamente estendido a qualquer dispositivo capaz de acessar os sistemas web. This paper presents a new numbering system based on the Pfafstetter codification scheme developed for stream networks. Its main advantage is the use of the segments' length instead of the catchments' areas for establishing the Pfafstetter code, therefore eliminating the need for elevation data. This methodology was then implemented in a software named Otto-Sys, developed for Arc/INFO workstation in AML. In order to present the results of this new approach, a case study was carried out for the stream network of the Caeté River, a tributary of Iaco River, belonging to the Amazon River basin. The details of such a digital hydrographic dataset led to 5 level-deep codes. Each codification level is stored as a new column of the attribute table and the corresponding level dictates the number of digits of the code. Once this codification scheme has been established, network-tracing tasks can be performed in any geographic information system using only attribute queries. This strategy speeds up such processes enabling them to be extended to real-time web-based devices.

O presente trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar o método para delimitação da bacia de contribuição à montante de um ponto selecionado sobre o hidrografia e a obtenção das respectivas características morfométricas, a partir de bases de dados estruturadas topologicamente. Para tanto, utilizou-se o aplicativo Hidrodata 2.0, desenvolvido para o ArcINFO workstation, comparando os seus resultados com os do processo convencional. Os resultados comprovaram que o tempo de processamento demandado para delimitação de bacias e extração de suas características morfométricas a partir de uma base de dados estruturada topologicamente se manteve baixo e constante. Concluiu-se que o método apresentado poderá ser aplicado em qualquer bacia hidrográfica, independentemente do seu tamanho, mesmo com o uso de computadores de configuração mais modesta. The present work aims to present and to evaluate a method for topologically structuring large databases, implemented as a set of AML routines for ArcINFO workstation named Hidrodata. The results proved that the processing time for delineating drainage areas and extracting their morphometric characteristics was kept low and constant. The use of a topologically structured database resulted in a lower demand of processing capacity. It was concluded that the presented approach can be applied for any watershed, independently of its size, even with the use of less-sophisticated computers.

RESUMO n O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar, atravOs da anAElise espacial de dados geogrAEficos, a precisao de procedimentos de mapeamento das populaAies de cigarras (Quesada gigas Oliver) em povoamentos de paricAE (Schizolobium amazonicum Huber ex Ducke), localizados no MunicIpio de Dom Eliseu, PA, mediante a aplicaAao de dois interpoladores (krigagem e inverso do quadrado da dist‚ncia). Para tal, foram registradas amostras na intensidade de um ponto a cada 30 ha, onde se realizou a contagem do nœmero de cigarras por planta (cigarras/AErvore), obedecendo ‡ estratOgia de amostragem convencionalmente usada pela empresa proprietAEria do reflorestamento em estudo. As anAElises indicaram que a intensidade amostral empregada neste trabalho nao foi suficiente para permitir a detecAao de forte dependŒncia espacial do nœmero de cigarras/AErvore nas AEreas estudadas. Devido a essa baixa dependŒncia espacial, os resultados dos dois mOtodos de interpolaAao (krigagem ordinAEria e inverso do quadrado da dist‚ncia) apresentaram-se semelhantes. JAE os deste trabalho indicaram que as estratOgias de amostragem utilizadas devem ser melhoradas para gerar mapas de prediAao mais precisos da quantidade de cigarras/AErvore nos reflorestamentos de paricAE. ABSTRACT n The objective of this study was to evaluate the occurrence of buzzers (Quesada gigas Oliver) in Parica (Schizlobium amazonicum Huber ex Ducke) stands using spatial geographic data analysis, in Dom Eliseu, Para, Brazil, based on the application of two interpolators (kriging and distance square inverse).Thus, points were set up in a density of one point for every 30 hectares, with one tree sampled per point, obeying the sample strategy conventionally used by the company which owns the reforestation stand under study. The analysis indicated that the sampling intensity utilized in this work was not sufficient to allow a strong spatial dependence of the number of buzzers/tree in the study area. Due to this low spatial dependence, the results of both interpolation methods (ordinary kriging and distance square inverse) were similar. The results of this work indicate that the sampling strategies must be improved to generate better and more precise buzzer/tree prediction maps for the Parica reforestation stand.

O estudo teve como objetivos elaborar o mapa de uso da terra e diagnosticar, em nível de paisagem, os fragmentos de vegetação florestal nativa por meio da classificação visual da imagem do satélite IKONOS II. A pesquisa foi desenvolvida na bacia hidrográfica do rio Alegre, situada no extremo sul do Estado do Espírito Santo, Brasil. Foram mapeadas 12 classes de uso da terra, destacando-se 475 fragmentos florestais. As classes cafezal (2.086,2 ha), pastagem (14.130,1 ha) e fragmento florestal (2.978,9 ha) ocuparam 92,16% (19.195,2 ha) da área total da bacia, que é de 20.819,8 ha. A maioria dos fragmentos florestais possui formas fortemente alongadas e área média de 6,3 ha. Também se constatou que a maior parte está sujeita a um elevado nível de perturbação, com 452 e 166 fragmentos florestais vizinhos às classes pastagem e cafezal, respectivamente. The main objective of this study was to create land use and diagnosis maps, at landscape level, of the native forest fragmentation through visual classification using IKONOS II data. The study was conducted in the river Alegre watershed, situated in the south region of State of Espirito Santo, Brazil. Twelve land use classes were mapped, pointing out 475 forest fragments. The classes of coffee plantation (2,086.2 ha), pasture (14,130.1 ha) and forest fragmentation (2,978.9 ha) occupied 92.16% (19,195.2 ha) of the total study area, which was about 20,819.8 ha. The majority of the forest fragments presented strongly elongated shapes, with an average of 6.3 ha. It was also noticed that most of them presented a high level of disturbance, with 452 and 166 forest fragments neighboring the pasture and coffee plantation classes, respectively.

O presente trabalho foi realizado em uma área de plantios de Eucalyptus de propriedade da Acesita Energética Ltda. Os plantios estão localizados nos municípios de Turmalina, Minas Novas, Veredinha e Capelinha, em Minas Gerais. O estudo teve como objetivo avaliar a viabilidade técnica da adoção de imagens Landsat-7 ETM+ para o mapeamento dos talhões de eucalipto. Foram empregadas duas metodologias de digitalização, em mesa e em tela. Duzentos e cinqüenta e quatro talhões foram digitalizados e a área de cada talhão foi calculada e comparada com os valores tomados como referência, fornecidos pela empresa. Como principais resultados citam-se: na digitalização em mesa, 43,30% dos talhões apresentaram erros na faixa de 0 a 5% e 64,95% na faixa de 0 a 10%, enquanto que na digitalização em tela os valores encontrados foram, respectivamente, 48,43% e 70,48%; não se aconselha o mapeamento de divisas com essa metodologia, uma vez que elas requerem maior exatidão; levantamentos expeditos ou de reconhecimento podem ser realizados com qualquer uma das metodologias. Use of orbital images for mapping Eucalyptus forest plantations in the north region of Minas Gerais state, Brazil Abstract The present work was carried out in an eucalypt stand area, belonging to the Acesita Energética Ltda. The stands are located in the municipalities of Turmalina, Minas Nova, Veredinha and Capelinha, Minas Gerais State, Brazil. The objective of this study was to evaluate the technical suitability of adoption of Landsat TM-7+ data for mapping Eucalyptus stands. Two digitalization methodologies were used, on digitizing tablet and screen. A total of 254 stands were digitalized and the area of each stand was calculated and compared with values taken as reference, provided by the Acesita Ltda. The main results were: on the tablet digitalization, 43.30% of the stands presented errors in the range of 0 to 5% and 64.95% in the range of 0 to 10%, while on the screen digitalization the values found were, respectively, 48.43% and 70.48%. It is not recommended to map limits with this methodology since they require a greater accuracy; expedite or recognizing surveys can be carried out with either methodology.

A demarcação das áreas de proteção no topo de morros e ao longo dos divisores d'água é um processo complexo, dificultando a fiscalização e, por conseguinte, o fiel cumprimento da legislação. Como alternativa aos métodos tradicionalmente utilizados - mapas topográficos, levantamentos de campo e uso dos restituidores - na execução dessa tarefa, apresenta-se uma nova metodologia, alicerçada na modelagem numérica do relevo e implementada em um sistema de informações geográficas. O processo é todo automatizado e alicerça-se em um conceito relativamente novo de modelos digitais de elevação hidrologicamente consistentes, tendo como vantagens a confiabilidade e a reprodutibilidade dos resultados obtidos, além da economia óbvia de tempo e mão-de-obra. A partir da disponibilização gratuita pela NASA dos dados SRTM (Shuttle Radar Topography Mission) para todo o continente americano, os resultados indicaram claramente que a aplicação da Lei Florestal no Brasil passa a ser tão-somente uma vontade política. The demarcation of permanent preservation areas is a complex process, jeopardizing both the surveillance tasks and law enforcement. This paper presents a GIS-based alternative to the traditional labor-intensive approach - manual features extraction using paper maps and photogrammetry techniques. The methodology relies on the new recent concept of hydrologically correct digital elevation models and has as principal advantages the consistency and reproducibility of the results, besides savings on both time and labor. Considering the recent availability by NASA of SRTM (Shuttle Radar Topography Mission) data on a continental scale, the results clearly show that, from now on, the enforcement of the Forest Code in Brazil is just a matter of political willingness.

Este estudo foi conduzido em uma área localizada no município de Lagoa da Confusão, Estado do Tocantins, com os objetivos de diagnosticar fragmentos florestais naturais, denominados regionalmente de "ipucas", e mapear as diferentes feições fisionômicas e o uso antrópico da área. Para realização deste estudo utilizou-se um sistema de informações geográficas, IDRISI 2.0. O principal resultado obtido foi o histórico de perturbação que se intensificou a partir da criação do Estado do Tocantins e da implantação do Projeto Rio Formoso para o cultivo de arroz irrigado; em relação à classificação fisionômica e ao uso antrópico foram individualizadas 73 "ipucas". A partir das variáveis consideradas verificou-se que, em relação à área, 56,16% dos fragmentos possuem áreas de até 5,00 ha e apenas quatro apresentaram áreas superiores a 100,00 ha. Aproximadamente 50% destas possuem formas alongadas, o que indica alta relação perímetro/área. Apenas três "ipucas" apresentaram índice de circularidade (C) próximo de 1. Foram identificadas oito feições circunvizinhas às "ipucas". Destas, cinco são ambientes naturais (varjão-sujo, varjão-limpo, pastagem natural, corpos d'água e afloramento rochoso) e as demais resultantes de ações antrópicas (área agrícola, pastagem plantada e rede viária). This study was carried out at the county Lagoa da Confusão, Tocantins, Brasil, aiming to diagnose natural forest fragments, denominated "ipucas", as well as to map different phytophysiognomic features and anthropic land uses. The basic tool used was a Geographic Information System (GIS - Idrisi 2.0 for Windows). The main results achieved were: the disturbance history of the region increased after creation of the state of Tocantins and the implementation of the Rio Formoso rice crop project; 11 cover types were identified and mapped in the area; seventy three "ipuca" natural forest fragments could be individualized and mapped, being 56% smaller than 5.00 ha and only four greater than 100.00; about 50% of these fragments have elongated shape, indicating a high perimeter/area relationship, while only three presented a circularity index close to 1.00; eight neighborhood types were identified, with five from natural environments and three resulting from anthropic effects.

Neste trabalho realizou-se o mapeamento dos conflitos de uso da terra nos anos de 1987 e 2007, em uma microbacia situada no município de Viçosa, Minas Gerais. Foram usadas Ortofotos e imagens ortoretificadas do satélite Ikonos obtidas, respectivamente, em 1987 e 2007. Utilizando-se técnicas de fotointerpretação de imagens, foram mapeadas as áreas de nove classes de uso da terra, mediante interpretação visual em tela. Os mapas de uso da terra gerados foram cruzados com um mapa de Áreas de Preservação Permanentes (APP's) para definir as áreas de uso indevido. Os resultados obtidos mostram que a classe classificada como pastagem ocupou em torno de 50% das APP's nas duas datas avaliadas. As classes (agricultura e café) tiveram suas áreas de ocupação em APP's ligeiramente aumentadas. Ao comparar as duas datas (1987 e 2007), todas as classes de uso da terra ocuparam mais de 30% das APP's, evidenciando um aumento do uso indevido do solo. In this study, we aimed to map the land use conflicts occurred in 1987 and 2007 in a watershed located in the municipality of Viçosa, Minas Gerais state, Brazil. To this end, we used Orthophotos and orthorectified images obtained by the Ikonos satellite in 1987 and 2007, respectively. Using photo interpretation techniques, nine classes were mapped through on-screen visual interpretation. The land use maps generated were compared with a map of Permanent Preservation Areas (PPAs) to define misuse areas. The main results indicated that the Pasture class occupied approximately 50% of the evaluated data in both PPAs. Agriculture and Coffee classes had their areas of occupation in PPA increased slightly. In general, all classes of land use occupied more than 30% of PPAs on the two dates analyzed, indicating a high rate of misuse.
