We investigate a braneworld model generated by a global monopole in the context of Brans-Dicke gravity. After solving the dynamical equations we found a model capable to alleviate the so-called hierarchy problem. The obtained framework is described by a hybrid compactification scheme endowed with a seven-dimensional spacetime, in which the brane has four non-compact dimensions and two curled extra dimensions. The relevant aspects of the resulting model are studied and the requirements to avoid the well known seesaw-like behavior are discussed. We show that under certain conditions it is possible to circumvent such a pathological behavior that characterizes most of the models that exhibit hybrid compactification. Lastly, we deepen our analysis by considering possible extensions of this model to a setup with multiple branes and orbifold-like extra dimension. For this, we compute the consistency conditions to be obeyed by this more general configuration as predicted by the braneworld sum rules formalism. We investigate the effective Dirac equation, corrected by merging two scenarios that are expected to emerge towards the quantum gravity scale. Namely, the existence of a minimal length, implemented by the generalized uncertainty principle, and exotic spinors, associated with any non-trivial topology equipping the spacetime manifold. We show that the free fermionic dynamical equations, within the context of a minimal length, just allow for trivial solutions, a feature that is not shared by dynamical equations for exotic spinors. In fact, in this coalescing setup, the exoticity is shown to prevent the Dirac operator to be injective, allowing the existence of non-trivial solutions., Comment: 9 pages

We formulate a class of stochastic partial differential equations based on Kelvin’s circulation theorem for ideal fluids. In these models, the velocity field is randomly transported by white-noise vector fields, as well as by its own average over realizations of this noise. We call these systems the Lagrangian averaged stochastic advection by Lie transport (LA SALT) equations. These equations are nonlinear and non-local, in both physical and probability space. Before taking this average, the equations recover the Stochastic Advection by Lie Transport (SALT) fluid equations introduced by Holm (Proc R Soc A 471(2176):20140963, 2015). Remarkably, the introduction of the non-locality in probability space in the form of momentum transported by its own mean velocity gives rise to a closed equation for the expectation field which comprises Navier–Stokes equations with Lie–Laplacian ‘dissipation’. As such, this form of non-locality provides a regularization mechanism. The formalism we develop is closely connected to the stochastic Weber velocity framework of Constantin and Iyer (Commun Pure Appl Math 61(3):330–345, 2008) in the case when the noise correlates are taken to be the constant basis vectors in $$\mathbb {R}^3$$ R 3 and, thus, the Lie–Laplacian reduces to the usual Laplacian. We extend this class of equations to allow for advected quantities to be present and affect the flow through exchange of kinetic and potential energies. The statistics of the solutions for the LA SALT fluid equations are found to be changing dynamically due to an array of intricate correlations among the physical variables. The statistical properties of the LA SALT physical variables propagate as local evolutionary equations which when spatially integrated become dynamical equations for the variances of the fluctuations. Essentially, the LA SALT theory is a non-equilibrium stochastic linear response theory for fluctuations in SALT fluids with advected quantities.

The prediction of climate change and its impact on extreme weather events is one of the great societal and intellectual challenges of our time. The first part of the problem is to make the distinction between weather and climate. The second part is to understand the dynamics of the fluctuations of the physical variables. The third part is to predict how the variances of the fluctuations are affected by statistical correlations in their fluctuating dynamics. This paper investigates a framework called LA SALT which can meet all three parts of the challenge for the problem of climate change. As a tractable example of this framework, we consider the Euler–Boussinesq (EB) equations for an incompressible stratified fluid flowing under gravity in a vertical plane with no other external forcing. All three parts of the problem are solved for this case. In fact, for this problem, the framework also delivers global well-posedness of the dynamics of the physical variables and closed dynamical equations for the moments of their fluctuations. Thus, in a well-posed mathematical setting, the framework developed in this paper shows that the mean field dynamics combines with an intricate array of correlations in the fluctuation dynamics to drive the evolution of the mean statistics. The results of the framework for 2D EB model analysis define its climate, as well as climate change, weather dynamics, and change of weather statistics, all in the context of a model system of SPDEs with unique global strong solutions.

The approach to nonholonomic Ricci flows and geometric evolution of regular Lagrange systems [S. Vacaru: J. Math. Phys. \textbf{49} (2008) 043504 \& Rep. Math. Phys. \textbf{63} (2009) 95] is extended to include geometric mechanics and gravity models on Lie algebroids. We prove that such evolution scenarios of geometric mechanics and analogous gravity can be modelled as gradient flows characterized by generalized Perelman functionals if an equivalent geometrization of Lagrange mechanics [J. We consider position-dependent mass (PDM) Lagrangians/Hamiltonians in their standard textbook form, where the long-standing \emph{gain-loss balance} between the kinetic and potential energies is kept intact to allow conservation of total energy (i.e., $L=T-V$, $H=T+V$, and $dH/dt=dE/dt=0$). Under such standard settings, we discuss and report on $n$-dimensional PDM damped harmonic oscillators (DHO). We use some $n$-dimensional point canonical transformation to facilitate the linearizability of their $n$-PDM dynamical equations into some $n$-linear DHOs' dynamical equations for constant mass setting. Consequently, the well know exact solutions for the linear DHOs are mapped, with ease, onto the exact solutions for PDM DHOs. Analogs are nearest neighbors of the state of a system. By using analogs and their successors in time, one is able to produce empirical forecasts. Several analog forecasting methods have been used in atmospheric applications and tested on well-known dynamical systems. Although efficient in practice, theoretical connections between analog methods and dynamical systems have been overlooked. Analog forecasting can be related to the real dynamical equations of the system of interest. This study investigates the properties of different analog forecasting strategies by taking local approximations of the system's dynamics. We find that analog forecasting performances are highly linked to the local Jacobian matrix of the flow map, and that analog forecasting combined with linear regression allows to capture projections of this Jacobian matrix. The proposed methodology allows to estimate analog forecasting errors, and to compare different analog methods. 10 pags., In this article, we reexamine the derivation of the dynamical equations of the Ashtekar-Olmedo-Singh black hole model in order to determine whether it is possible to construct a Hamiltonian formalism where the parameters that regulate the introduction of quantum geometry effects are treated as true constants of motion. After arguing that these parameters should capture contributions from two distinct sectors of the phase space that had been considered independent in previous analyses in the literature, we proceed to obtain the corresponding equations of motion and analyze the consequences of this more general choice. We restrict our discussion exclusively to these dynamical issues. In this paper, we have investigated the non-adiabatic spherical gravitational collapse in the framework of the $f(R,T)$ theory of gravity with a locally anisotropic fluid that undergoes dissipation in the form of heat flux, free-streaming radiation, and shearing viscosity. The dynamical equations are analyzed in detail, both in the Newtonian and post-Newtonian regimes. Finally we couple the dynamical equations to the full causal transport equation in the context of Israel-Stewart theory of dissipative systems. We studied the impact of field heterogeneity on entrainment in a system of uniformly interacting phase oscillators. Field heterogeneity is shown to induce dynamical heterogeneity in the system. In effect, the heterogeneous field partitions the system into interacting groups of oscillators that feel the same local field strength and phase. Based on numerical and analytical analysis of the explicit dynamical equations derived from the periodically forced Kuramoto model, we found that the heterogeneous field can disrupt entrainment at different field frequencies when compared to the homogeneous field. This transition occurs when the phase- and frequency-locked synchronization between groups of oscillators is broken at a critical field frequency, causing each group to enter a new dynamical state (disrupted state). Self-gravitating kink solutions of a two-dimensional dilaton gravity are revisited in this work. Analytical kink solutions are derived from a concise superpotential formalism of the dynamical equations. A general analysis on the linear stability is conducted for an arbitrary static solution of the model. A study of a complete cosmological model based on an asymmetric scalar doublet represented by the classical and phantom scalar Higgs fields is carried out. At the same time, the assumption about the nonnegativity of the expansion rate of the Universe, which in some cases contradicts the complete system of Einstein's equations, was removed. A closed system of dynamic equations describing the evolution of the cosmological model is formulated, and the dependence of the topology of the Einstein - Higgs hypersurface of the 5-dimensional phase space of the dynamical system that determines the global properties of the cosmological model on the fundamental constants of the model is investigated. The framework of a kind of noncanonical warm inflation is introduced, and the dynamical equations of this scenario are presented. We propose the slow roll approximations and give some redefining slow roll parameters in this scenario which remain dimensionless. Performing systemic stability analysis, we calculate the slow roll conditions to guarantee that slow roll approximations hold. The slow roll conditions suggest slow roll inflation in general noncanonical warm inflationary scenario can still exist, and in addition, the slow roll approximations are more easily to be satisfied. A general equation of state is considered for analysing the possible behaviors for (Early) dark energy that alleviates the Hubble parameter tension problem. By departing from the possible evolution for the (Early) dark energy density and the corresponding dynamical equations, the equation of state is obtained, which allow us to analyze qualitatively the cosmological evolution and the dominance of each term in the equation of state along the cosmic expansion, which show some interesting consequences as the occurrence of (past) future singularities. Then, by considering two general models, their free parameters are fit with different sources of data, showing the goodness of the fits in comparison to more standard models. We perform numerical simulations of a long-range spherical spin glass with two and three body interaction terms. We study the gradient descent dynamics and the inherent structures found after a quench from initial conditions, well thermalized at temperature $T_{in}$. In large systems, the dynamics strictly agrees with the integration of the mean-field dynamical equations. In particular, we confirm the existence of an onset initial temperature, within the liquid phase, below which the energy of the inherent structures undoubtedly depends on $T_{in}$. This behavior is in contrast with that of pure models, where there is a 'threshold energy' that attracts all the initial configurations in the liquid. We present a detailed study of the dynamics associated with the ghost sector of quenched QCD in the Landau gauge, where the relevant dynamical equations are supplemented with key inputs originating from large-volume lattice simulations. In particular, we solve the coupled system of Schwinger-Dyson equations that governs the evolution of the ghost dressing function and the ghost-gluon vertex, using as input for the gluon propagator lattice data that have been cured from volume and discretization artifacts. In addition, we explore the soft gluon limit of the same system, employing recent lattice data for the three-gluon vertex that enters in one of the diagrams defining the Schwinger-Dyson equation of the ghost-gluon vertex. The results obtained from the numerical treatment of these equations are in excellent agreement with lattice data for the ghost dressing function, once the latter have undergone the appropriate scale-setting and artifact elimination refinements. Moreover, the coincidence observed between the ghost-gluon vertex in general kinematics and in the soft gluon limit reveals an outstanding consistency of physical concepts and computational schemes., Comment: 34 pages, 12 figures

We present a complete theory of higher-order autonomous contact mechanics, which allows us to describe higher-order dynamical systems with dissipation. The essential tools for the theory are the extended higher-order tangent bundles, ${\rm T}^kQ\times{\mathbb R}$, whose geometric structures are previously introduced in order to state the Lagrangian and Hamiltonian formalisms for these kinds of systems, including their variational formulation. The variational principle, the contact forms, and the geometric dynamical equations are obtained by using those structures and generalizing the standard formulation of contact Lagrangian and Hamiltonian systems. As an alternative approach, we develop a unified description that encompasses the Lagrangian and Hamiltonian equations as well as their relationship through the Legendre map; all of them are obtained from the contact dynamical equations and the constraint algorithm that is implemented because, in this formalism, the dynamical systems are always singular. Recent years have seen the flourishing of research devoted to quantum effects on mesoscopic and macroscopic scales. A complete bifurcation analysis of explicit dynamical equations for the periodically forced Kuramoto model was performed in [L. M. Childs and S. H. Strogatz. Chaos 18 , 043128 (2008)], identifying all bifurcations within the model. We show that the phase diagram predicted by this analysis is incomplete. Our numerical analysis of the equations reveals that the model can also undergo an abrupt phase transition from oscillations to wobbly rotations of the order parameter under increasing field frequency or decreasing field strength. This transition was not revealed by bifurcation analysis because it is not caused by a bifurcation, and can neither be classified as first nor second-order since it does not display critical phenomena characteristic of either transition. We investigate the linear dynamics of an electromagnetic field propagating in curved spacetime in the presence of plasma. The dynamical equations are generically more involved and richer than the effective Proca equation adopted as a model in previous work. We discuss the general equations and focus on the case of a cold plasma in the background of a spherically-symmetric black hole, showing that the system admits plasma-driven, quasibound electromagnetic states that are prone to become superradiantly unstable when the black hole rotates. The quasibound states are different from those of the Proca equation and have some similarities with the case of a massive scalar field, suggesting that the linear instability can be strongly suppressed compared to previous estimates. We introduce an improved form for the anisotropic hydrodynamics distribution function which explicitly takes into account the free-streaming and equilibrating contributions separately. We demonstrate that with this improvement one can better reproduce exact results available in the literature for the evolution of moments of the distribution function, in particular, for moments which contain no powers of the longitudinal momentum in their definition (m=0 moments). Using the resulting dynamical equations, we extract the non-equilibrium attractor associated with our improved aHydro ansatz and demonstrate that the improvement also allows one to better reproduce the exact dynamical attractor obtained using kinetic theory in the relaxation time approximation, particularly at early rescaled times and for m=0 moments., 22 pages, 4 figures

We obtain an exact correspondence between the dynamical equations in Israel-Stewart (IS) theory and first-order causal and stable (FOCS) hydrodynamics for a boost-invariant system with an ideal gas equation of state at finite baryon chemical potential. Explicit expressions for the temperature and chemical potential dependence of the regulators in the FOCS theory are given in terms of the kinetic coefficients and constant relaxation time of the IS theory. An autonomous holonomic dynamical system is described by a system of second order differential equations whose solution gives the trajectories of the system. The solution is facilitated by the use of first integrals (FIs) that are used to reduce the order of the system of differential equations and, if there are enough of them, to determine the solution. Therefore, in the study of dynamical systems, it is important that there exists a systematic method to determine the FIs of second order differential equations. On the other hand, a system of second order differential equations defines (as a rule) a kinetic energy (or Lagrangian), which provides a symmetric second order tensor that we call the kinetic metric. This metric via its symmetries (or collineations) brings into the scene the differential geometry that provides numerous results and methods concerning the determination of these symmetries. It is apparent that if one manages to provide a systematic way that will relate the determination of the FIs of a given dynamical system to the symmetries of the kinetic metric defined by this very system, then one will have at his/her disposal the powerful methods of differential geometry in the determination of the FIs and, consequently, the solution of the dynamical equations. This was also a partial aspect of Lie’s work on the symmetries of differential equations. The subject of this work is to provide a theorem that realizes this scenario. The method we follow has been considered previously in the literature and consists of the following steps: Consider the generic quadratic FI of the form I=Kab(t,qc)qaqb+Ka(t,qc)qa+K(t,qc), where Kab(t, qc), Ka(t, qc), and K(t, qc) are unknown tensor quantities and require dI/dt = 0. This condition leads to a system of differential equations involving the coefficients Kab(t, qc), Ka(t, qc), and K(t, qc) whose solution provides all possible quadratic FIs of this form. We demonstrate the application of the theorem in the classical cases of the geodesic equations and the generalized Kepler potential in which we obtain all the known results in a systematic way. We also obtain and discuss the time-dependent FIs that are as important as the autonomous FIs determined by other methods.

Utilising Onsager's variational formulation, we derive dynamical equations for the relaxation of a fluid membrane tube in the limit of small deformation, allowing for a contrast of solvent viscosity across the membrane and variations in surface tension due to membrane incompressibility. We compute the relaxation rates, recovering known results in the case of purely axis-symmetric perturbations and making new predictions for higher order (azimuthal) $m$-modes. We analyse the long and short wavelength limits of these modes by making use of various asymptotic arguments. We incorporate stochastic terms to our dynamical equations suitable to describe both passive thermal forces and non-equilibrium active forces. We derive expressions for the fluctuation amplitudes, an effective temperature associated with active fluctuations, and the power spectral density for both the thermal and active fluctuations. We discuss an experimental assay that might enable measurement of these fluctuations to infer the properties of the active noise. Finally we discuss our results in the context of active membranes more generally and give an overview of some open questions in the field., 14 pages, 9 figures

The Kuramoto model serves as a paradigm to study the phenomenon of spontaneous collective synchronization. We study here a nontrivial generalization of the Kuramoto model by including an interaction that breaks explicitly the rotational symmetry of the model. In an inertial frame (e.g., the laboratory frame), the Kuramoto model does not allow for a stationary state, that is, a state with time-independent value of the so-called Kuramoto (complex) synchronization order parameter $z\equiv re^{i\psi}$; Note that a time-independent $z$ implies $r$ and $\psi$ both time independent, with the latter fact corresponding to a state in which $\psi$ rotates at zero frequency (no rotation). In this backdrop, we ask: Does the introduction of the symmetry-breaking term suffice to allow for the existence of a stationary state in the laboratory frame? Compared to the original model, we reveal a rather rich phase diagram of the resulting model, with the existence of both stationary and standing wave phases. While in the former the synchronization order parameter $r$ has a long-time value that is time independent, one has in the latter an oscillatory behavior of the order parameter as a function of time that nevertheless yields a non-zero and time-independent time average. Our results are based on numerical integration of the dynamical equations as well as an exact analysis of the dynamics by invoking the so-called Ott-Antonsen ansatz that allows to derive a reduced set of time-evolution equations for the order parameter., Comment: 10 pages, 7 figures

The dynamics of a two-dimensional Bose-Einstein condensate in a presence of quantum fluctuations is studied. The properties of localized density distributions, quantum droplets (QDs), are analyzed by means of the variational approach. It is demonstrated that the super-Gaussian function gives a good approximation for profiles of fundamental QDs and droplets with non-zero vorticity. The dynamical equations for parameters of QDs are obtained. Fixed points of these equations determine the parameters of stationary QDs. The period of small oscillations of QDs near the stationary state is estimated. It is obtained that periodic modulations of the strength of quantum fluctuations can actuate different processes, including resonance oscillations of the QD parameters, an emission of waves and a splitting of QDs into smaller droplets., 7 pages, 7 figures. A nematic liquid crystal confined to the surface of a sphere exhibits topological defects of total charge $+2$ due to the topological constraint. In equilibrium, the nematic field forms four $+1/2$ defects, located at the corners of a regular tetrahedron inscribed within the sphere, since this minimizes the Frank elastic energy. If additionally the individual nematogens exhibit self-driven directional motion, the resulting active system creates large-scale flow that drives it out of equilibrium. In particular, the defects now follow complex dynamic trajectories which, depending on the strength of the active forcing, can be periodic (for weak forcing) or chaotic (for strong forcing). In this paper we derive an effective particle theory for this system, in which the topological defects are the degrees of freedom, whose exact equations of motion we subsequently determine. Numerical solutions of these equations confirm previously observed characteristics of their dynamics and clarify the role played by the time dependence of their global rotation. We also show that Onsager's variational principle offers an exceptionally transparent way to derive these dynamical equations, and we explain the defect mobility at the hydrodynamics level., 16 pages, 7 figures

In this paper, we have continued the work of Herrera \emph{et al.} \cite{herrera2012dynamical} in $f(G)$ gravitational theory. For this purpose, a spherically symmetric fluid exhibiting locally anisotropic pressure along with the energy density, is taken under consideration. The perturbation scheme is imposed on modified field equations and the dynamical equations. The collapse equation is devised from these perturbed equations which stimulates to disclose the instability zone under both Newtonian and post-Newtonian constraints. The physics of Markovian open quantum systems can be described by quantum master equations. These are dynamical equations, that incorporate the Hamiltonian and jump operators, and generate the system's time evolution. Reconstructing the system's Hamiltonian and and its coupling to the environment from measurements is important both for fundamental research as well as for performance-evaluation of quantum machines. In this paper we introduce a method that reconstructs the dynamical equation of open quantum systems, directly from a set of expectation values of selected observables. We benchmark our technique both by a simulation and experimentally, by measuring the dynamics of a trapped $^{88}\text{Sr}^+$ ion under spontaneous photon scattering., 6 pages, 6 figures. We address the many-atom emission of a dilute cloud of two-level atoms through a renormalized perturbation theory. An analytical solution for the truncated coupled-dipole equations is derived, which contains an effective spectrum associated to the initial conditions. Our solution is able to distinguish precisely classical from semi-classical predictions for large atomic ensembles. This manifests as a reduction of the cooperativity in the radiated power for higher atomic excitation, in disagreement with the fully classical prediction from linear optics. Moreover, the second-order cooperative emission appears accurate over several single atom lifetimes and for interacting regimes stronger than those permitted in conventional perturbation theory. We can compute the semiclassical dynamics of hundred thousand of interacting atoms with ordinary computational resources, which makes our formalism particularly promising to probe the nonlinear dynamics of quantum many-body systems that emerge from cumulant expansions., 5 pages, 2 figures and supplementary information

The thermodynamics of Universe in the Eddington-Born-Infeld (EBI) theory was restudied by utilizing the holographic-style gravitational equations that dominate the dynamics of the cosmical apparent horizon $\Upsilon_{A}$ and the evolution of Universe. We started in rewriting the EBI action of the Palatini approach into the Bigravity-type action with an extra metric $q_{\mu\nu}$. With the help of the holographic-style dynamical equations, we discussed the property of the cosmical apparent horizon $\Upsilon_{A}$ including timelike, spacelike and null characters, which depends on the value of the parameter of state $w_{m}$ in EBI Universe. The unified first law for the gravitational thermodynamics and the total energy differential for the open system enveloped by $\Upsilon_{A}$ in EBI Universe were obtained. The stationary distribution of a fully chaotic system typically exhibits a fractal structure, which dramatically changes if the dynamical equations are even slightly modified. Perturbative techniques are not expected to work in this situation. In contrast, the presence of additive noise smooths out the stationary distribution, and perturbation theory becomes applicable. The study of perturbation of self-gravitating celestial cylindrical object have been carried out in this paper. We have designed a framework to construct the collapse equation by formulating the modified field equations with the background of $f(R,T)$ theory as well as dynamical equations from the contracted form of Bianchi identities with anisotropic matter configuration. We have encapsulated the radial perturbations on metric and material variables of the geometry with some known static profile at Newtonian and post-Newtonian regimes. We examined a strong dependence of unstable regions on stiffness parameter which measures the rigidity of the fluid. Also, the static profile and matter variables with $f(R,T)$ dark source terms control the instability of compact cylindrical system.

The dynamics of any spherical cosmology with a scalar field (`scalaron') coupling to gravity is described by the nonlinear second-order differential equations for two metric functions and the scalaron depending on the `time' parameter. The equations depend on the scalaron potential and on the arbitrary gauge function that describes time parameterizations. This dynamical system can be integrated for flat, isotropic models with very special potentials. But, somewhat unexpectedly, replacing the `time' variable by one of the metric functions allows us to completely integrate the general spherical theory in any gauge and with apparently arbitrary potentials. The main restrictions on the potential arise from positivity of the derived analytic expressions for the solutions, which are essentially the squared canonical momenta. An interesting consequence is emerging of classically forbidden regions for these analytic solutions. It is also shown that in this rather general model the inflationary solutions can be identified, explicitly derived, and compared to the standard approximate expressions. In present work, we show how the threshold expansion formula of N identical bosons in finite volume may be derived by iterations of Faddeev-type coupled dynamical equations. The energy shift of N-boson system near threshold is dominated by zero momenta mode of N-body amplitudes with all particles nearly static. The dominant zero momenta mode and subleading nonzero momenta mode contributions are connected through finite volume Faddeev-type coupled dynamical equations. Eliminating nonzero momenta modes by iterations ultimately yields an analytic expression that can be solved by threshold expansion.

A sequential estimator based on the Ensemble Kalman Filter for Data Assimilation of fluid flows is presented in this research work. The main feature of this estimator is that the Kalman filter update, which relies on the determination of the Kalman gain, is performed exploiting the algorithmic features of the numerical solver employed as a model. More precisely, the multilevel resolution associated with the multigrid iterative approach for time advancement is used to generate several low-resolution numerical simulations. These results are used as ensemble members to determine the correction via Kalman filter, which is then projected on the high-resolution grid to correct a single simulation which corresponds to the numerical model. The assessment of the method is performed via the analysis of one-dimensional and two-dimensional test cases, using different dynamical equations. The results show an efficient trade-off in terms of accuracy and computational costs required. In addition, a physical regularization of the flow, which is not granted by classical KF approaches, is naturally obtained owing to the multigrid iterative calculations. The algorithm is also well suited for the analysis of unsteady phenomena and, in particular, for potential application to in-streaming Data Assimilation techniques.

The Traditional Approximation of Rotation (TAR) is a treatment of the dynamical equations of rotating stably stratified fluids where the action of the Coriolis acceleration along the direction of the entropy (and chemicals) stratification is neglected while assuming that the fluid motions are mostly horizontal because of their inhibition in the vertical direction by the buoyancy force. This leads to neglect the horizontal projection of the rotation vector in the equations for the dynamics of gravito-inertial waves (GIWs) that become separable as in the non-rotating case while they are not in the case with the full Coriolis acceleration. This approximation has been broadly applied in stellar (and planetary) astrophysics to study low-frequency GIWs. TAR is built on the assumptions that the star is spherical (i.e. its centrifugal deformation is neglected) and uniformly rotating while an adiabatic treatment of the dynamics of the waves is adopted. However, it has been recently generalised with including the effects of a differential rotation. We aim to do a new generalisation that takes into account the centrifugal acceleration in the case of moderately uniformly rotating deformed stars. As in the case of a differentially rotating spherical star, the problem becomes 2D but can be treated analytically if assuming the Cowling, anelastic and JWKB approximations, which are relevant for low-frequency GIWs. It allows us to derive a generalised Laplace tidal equation for the horizontal eigenfunctions and asymptotic wave periods that can be used to probe the structure and dynamics of rotating deformed stars thanks to asteroseismology. Extrinsic noise-induced transitions to bimodal dynamics have been largely investigated in a variety of chemical, physical, and biological systems. In the standard approach in physical and chemical systems, the key properties that make these systems mathematically tractable are that the noise appears linearly in the dynamical equations, and it is assumed Gaussian and white. In biology, the Gaussian approximation has been successful in specific systems, but the relevant noise being usually non-Gaussian, non-white, and nonlinear poses serious limitations to its general applicability. Here we revisit the fundamental features of linear Gaussian noise, pinpoint its limitations, and review recent new approaches based on nonlinear bounded noises, which highlight novel mechanisms to account for transitions to bimodal behaviour. We do this by considering a simple but fundamental gene expression model, the repressed gene, which is characterized by linear and nonlinear dependencies on external parameters. We then review a general methodology introduced recently, so-called nonlinear noise filtering, which allows the investigation of linear, nonlinear, Gaussian and non-Gaussian noises. We also present a derivation of it, which highlights its dynamical origin. Testing the methodology on the repressed gene confirms that the emergence of noise-induced transitions appears to be strongly dependent on the type of noise adopted, and on the degree of nonlinearity present in the system., Review paper, 17 pages, 8 figures

We study the performance of long short-term memory networks (LSTMs) and neural ordinary differential equations (NODEs) in learning latent-space representations of dynamical equations for an advection-dominated problem given by the viscous Burgers equation. Our formulation is devised in a nonintrusive manner with an equation-free evolution of dynamics in a reduced space with the latter being obtained through a proper orthogonal decomposition. In addition, we leverage the sequential nature of learning for both LSTMs and NODEs to demonstrate their capability for closure in systems that are not completely resolved in the reduced space. We assess our hypothesis for two advection-dominated problems given by the viscous Burgers equation. We observe that both LSTMs and NODEs are able to reproduce the effects of the absent scales for our test cases more effectively than does intrusive dynamics evolution through a Galerkin projection. This result empirically suggests that time-series learning techniques implicitly leverage a memory kernel for coarse-grained system closure as is suggested through the Mori–Zwanzig formalism.

We intend to introduce classically a special Lagrangian density in such a way that, firstly, it leads to a special non-topological solitary wave solution, secondly, the stability of that is guaranteed properly, and thirdly, its dominant dynamical equations reduce to the standard nonlinear Klein-Gordon equations. For these purposes, we have to consider a new term in the Lagrangian density, whose role is like a massless phantom that surrounds the special solitary wave solution and resists any change in its internal structure.

Mechanisms of pattern formation---of which the Turing instability is an archetype---constitute an important class of dynamical processes occurring in biological, ecological and chemical systems. Recently, it has been shown that the Turing instability can induce pattern formation in discrete media such as complex networks, opening up the intriguing possibility of exploring it as a generative mechanism in a plethora of socioeconomic contexts. Yet, much remains to be understood in terms of the precise connection between network topology and its role in inducing the patterns. Here, we present a general mathematical description of a two-species reaction-diffusion process occurring on different flavors of network topology. The dynamical equations are of the predator-prey class, that while traditionally used to model species population, has also been used to model competition between antagonistic ideas in social systems. We demonstrate that the Turing instability can be induced in any network topology, by tuning the diffusion of the competing species, or by altering network connectivity. The extent to which the emergent patterns reflect topological properties is determined by a complex interplay between the diffusion coefficients and the localization properties of the eigenvectors of the graph Laplacian. We find that networks with large degree fluctuations tend to have stable patterns over the space of initial perturbations, whereas patterns in more homogenous networks are purely stochastic., 11 pages, 9 figures

Receptor-mediated endocytosis requires that the energy of adhesion overcomes the deformation energy of the plasma membrane. The resulting driving force is balanced by dissipative forces, leading to deterministic dynamical equations. While the shape of the free membrane does not play an important role for tensed and loose membranes, in the intermediate regime it leads to an important energy barrier. Here we show that this barrier is similar to but different from an effective line tension and suggest a simple analytical approximation for it. We then explore the rich dynamics of uptake for particles of different shapes and present the corresponding dynamical state diagrams. We develop and implement a novel finite difference lattice Boltzmann scheme to study multicomponent flows on curved surfaces, coupling the continuity and Navier-Stokes equations with the Cahn-Hilliard equation to track the evolution of the binary fluid interfaces. The standard lattice Boltzmann method relies on regular Cartesian grids, which makes it generally unsuitable to study flow problems on curved surfaces. To alleviate this limitation, we use a vielbein formalism to write down the Boltzmann equation on an arbitrary geometry, and solve the evolution of the fluid distribution functions using a finite difference method. Focussing on the torus geometry as an example of a curved surface, we demonstrate drift motions of fluid droplets and stripes embedded on the surface of such geometries. Interestingly, they migrate in opposite directions: fluid droplets to the outer side while fluid stripes to the inner side of the torus. For the latter we demonstrate that the global minimum configuration is unique for small stripe widths, but it becomes bistable for large stripe widths. Our simulations are also in agreement with analytical predictions for the Laplace pressure of the fluid stripes, and their damped oscillatory motion as they approach equilibrium configurations, capturing the corresponding decay timescale and oscillation frequency. Finally, we simulate the coarsening dynamics of phase separating binary fluids in the hydrodynamics and diffusive regimes for tori of various shapes, and compare the results against those for a flat two-dimensional surface. Our finite difference lattice Boltzmann scheme can be extended to other surfaces and coupled to other dynamical equations, opening up a vast range of applications involving complex flows on curved geometries.

We study the quantum mechanical many-body problem of $$N \ge 1$$ non-relativistic electrons with spin interacting with their self-generated classical electromagnetic field and $$K \ge 0$$ static nuclei. We model the dynamics of the electrons and their self-generated electromagnetic field with the so-called many-body Maxwell–Pauli equations. Here we construct time global, finite-energy, weak solutions to the many-body Maxwell–Pauli equations under the assumption that the fine structure constant $$\alpha $$ and the nuclear charges are not too large. The particular assumptions on the size of $$\alpha $$ and the nuclear charges ensure that we have energetic stability of the many-body Pauli Hamiltonian, i.e., the ground state energy is finite and uniformly bounded below with lower bound independent of the magnetic field and the positions of the nuclei. This work serves as an initial step towards understanding the connection between the energetic stability of matter and the well-posedness of the corresponding dynamical equations.

As an extension of the isotropic setting presented in the companion paper [J. Phys. A 52, 144002 (2019)], we consider the Langevin dynamics of a many-body system of pairwise interacting particles in $d$ dimensions, submitted to an external shear strain. We show that the anisotropy introduced by the shear strain can be simply addressed by moving into the co-shearing frame, leading to simple dynamical mean field equations in the limit ${d\to\infty}$. The dynamics is then controlled by a single one-dimensional effective stochastic process which depends on three distinct strain-dependent kernels - self-consistently determined by the process itself - encoding the effective restoring force, friction and noise terms due to the particle interactions. From there one can compute dynamical observables such as particle mean-square displacements and shear stress fluctuations, and eventually aim at providing an exact ${d \to \infty}$ benchmark for liquid and glass rheology. The ghost-gluon scattering kernel is a special correlation function that is intimately connected with two fundamental vertices of the gauge sector of QCD: the ghost-gluon vertex, which may be obtained from it through suitable contraction, and the three-gluon vertex, whose Slavnov-Taylor identity contains that kernel as one of its main ingredients. In this work we present a detailed nonperturbative study of the five form factors comprising it, using as starting point the `one-loop dressed' approximation of the dynamical equations governing their evolution. The analysis is carried out for arbitrary Euclidean momenta, and makes extensive use of the gluon propagator and the ghost dressing function, whose infrared behavior has been firmly established from a multitude of continuum studies and large-volume lattice simulations. In addition, special Ans\"atze are employed for the vertices entering in the relevant equations, and their impact on the results is scrutinized in detail. Quite interestingly, the veracity of the approximations employed may be quantitatively tested by appealing to an exact relation, which fixes the value of a special combination of the form factors under construction. The results obtained furnish the two form factors of the ghost-gluon vertex for arbitrary momenta, and, more importantly, pave the way towards the nonperturbative generalization of the Ball-Chiu construction for the longitudinal part of the three-gluon vertex., Comment: 47 pages, 16 figures, expanded version matching the published one

We investigate some consequences of a specific non-conservation of the energy-momentum tensor on the physics of certain cosmic string configurations. This non-conservation is induced by a new gravitational theory recently introduced as an attempt to incorporate dissipative systems in the gravity description. This model of gravity is endowed with a variational principle, where an action-dependence on the geometric sector is assumed. For the Abelian-Higgs string we derive the dynamical equations and provide the numerical solutions describing the behavior of the Higgs and gauge fields as well as the profile of the metric functions for different cases of the parameter that characterises the model. Additionally, from this numerical approach we find how the inner structure of the cosmic string is affected by this underlying gravitational theory, by analyzing the deviations both on the mass per unit length and the deficit angle of the string. Next, we proceed with an analytical treatment obtaining the solution close to the string axis and also the corresponding vacuum solution. Our analytical results are also complemented with the study of a thick cosmic string model, where the defect is endowed with finite core. In this case we have obtained the proper interior solution which joined together with the vacuum metric outside provides an exact solution for the exterior geometry which generalizes previous results and leads to a decreasing of the mass per unit length of the cosmic string., 12 pages, 8 figures.
