Introduction/purpose:The paper presents the development of logistics as a specific field of military branch, a contemporary field of business and a scientific discipline which inspires many researchers, theorists and practitioners to approach logistical problems from various aspects. The essence of logistics is an integrated approach to all its constituent activities, which reduces costs and increases the efficiency and effectiveness of the logistics system in supporting the primary activities of an organization or a technical system. Due to intensive and multidimensional development of logistics and its applications in various fields, the need for highly educated logistics personnel with specialized knowledge for performing a wide range of activities in the logistics system is becoming increasingly necessary. Methods: Based on the description of military, business, national and humanitarian logistics and a comparative analysis, their mutual relationship is shown. Results: Based on the performed analysis, an explanation of the importance of studying logistics as a multidisciplinary science and pointing out the need for specific training of logistics personnel was given. Conclusion: Logistics is intensively developing in various fields depending on the goals of the system (organizational and technical) it supports. In general, commercial logistics is evolving faster than military logistics, and many innovative commercial logistics solutions are being deployed in military logistics. However, certain solutions that produce good results in the commercial sector do not produce adequate results in the military. Therefore, it is necessary to carry out research and study of the functioning of logistics systems in different fields and carefully integrate individual solutions into the military logistics system. As the most complex logistics system, military logistics requires specific staffing and training of logistics professionals.

The divergent evolution of e-commerce has complicated its correspondingly logistics management. However, few studies have explored e-commerce logistics business models via big data analytics. Hence, this investigation explores e-commerce logistics business models from unstructured big data. Specifically, this work develops a hybrid content analytical model to scrutinize essential knowledge of e-commerce logistics. The empirical results of the proposed model incorporate theories of resource dependence theory (RDT) and innovation diffusion theory (IDT) to generate logistical strategies. Ten critical themes of e-commerce logistics from topic mining are “Southeast Asia’s e-commerce logistics payments”, “E-commerce order management”, “E-commerce logistics cloud services”, “E-commerce logistics package management”, “Europe e-commerce trends”, “India’s e-commerce logistics”, “E-commerce distribution management”, “Tax policies”, “E-commerce logistics platforms”, and “E-commerce logistics networks”. Moreover, the fundamental rule of “cross-border e-commerce logistics” is uncovered by the association rules model. The proposed hybrid content analytics framework provides a research foundation for e-commerce logistics management. Furthermore, e-commerce logistics can be implemented by vital strategies: “Establish inter-organizational and technical collaboration to create positive operations performance” and “Comprehend law, policy, and cultural differences to customize appropriate technologies of e-commerce logistics”.

Problems in transportation and logistics had to be tackled long before computers and Operational Research (OR) became available to support decision making. After the first optimization models were developed, OR has substantially contributed in making transportation systems efficient and companies with complex transportation and logistics problems competitive. Over the years, technology has evolved and the same has done OR. In this paper, the history of problems and OR contributions in transportation and logistics will be shortly reviewed together with the evolution of technology. Then, the future trends in this area will be discussed together with potential OR contributions.

Logistics sustainability plays a critical role in our daily life since logistics involves in large number of resources such as manpower, transportation vehicles, warehouses, and products which should be sustainably leveraged. One possible way to achieve the sustainability is to make the coordinated development of logistics and economy. Due to the complexity of the logistics industry, better coordination among all relevant parties are challenging. The purpose of this research is to analyze the key factors on the coordinated development between metropolitan economy and logistics. This paper uses a Bayesian Network to examine their impacts. Several contributions are significant. Firstly, it is observed that the coordinated development of metropolitan economy and logistics heavily relies on their development levels as their posterior probability values are both over 80%. Secondly, two causation chains greatly affected the coordinated development are found. Scientific value of this research is that special attentions should be paid to key factors like logistics infrastructure investment, the development level of logistics industry, basic research and development level, and the technological development level within the chains when carrying out sustainable decision-makings.

Purpose Sustainability-related risk management of logistics service providers (LSPs) is an essential part of sustainability performance of focal companies, as logistics services touch the entire supply chain (SC) – from raw material sources to end-customers. The purpose of this paper, draws on resource-based view and stakeholder theory in exploring how companies can manage environmental and social sustainability-related risks from logistics service suppliers. This kind of capability is essential in order to maintain reputation in the eyes of stakeholders, and to maintain long-term financial performance. Design/methodology/approach The data of this multiple-case study were collected from semi-structured interviews in eight case-companies in Finland. Five of the cases are primary logistics buyers, and three represent LSP companies. Findings The cross-case analysis showed that primary buyers of logistics services use their sustainability criteria as a prerequisite for LSP candidates, and when the level is adequate and equal, other factors, e.g. price and capacity, are decisive. Based on the analysis, large LSPs are preparing for the future competition, and act in a more sustainable manner than their customers (buyers) expect at the moment, while small LSPs strictly comply with the regulation. However, buyers’ requirements for sustainable logistics services are increasing as the stakeholder expectations for comprehensively sustainable SCs are growing. Originality/value Only little research has been conducted on sustainable logistics from the buyer company’s risk management perspective. This paper adds the knowledge of sustainability-related risk management in purchasing of logistics services and in the logistics industry.

Article presents information as a valuable strategic resource and its increasing role over time, basing on polish and foreign definitions of logistics. Lastly, a definition for information logistics has been proposed.

Despite its deep historical roots, at the present time there are no methods for solving logistics problems that allow to work out a unified approach to choosing the best option, relying on all relevant factors. The method of choosing the optimal parameters of the logistics stock of a logistics operation is based on the possibility of estimating the efficiency of a global economic operation model with distributed parameters. The method is based on the logistic operation model, which includes the possibility of variation by factors such as changes in the volume and price of purchases, changes in the delivery time, the possibility of accounting for changes in demand from the established mark-up and how to build the forecast. Since the demand for commodity products in open systems is of a probabilistic nature, the method involves solving a logistics problem with three probable outcomes. These outcomes are expressed in the possibility of creating models of operations of three classes: surplus operations, coordinated and deficit operations. On the basis of the proposed method, a software product is created that converts the initial data of the logistics task into a system of indicators on the basis of which it is possible to carry out an objective choice of the insurance stock size. Based on such indicators as potential effect and resource intensity, the efficiency indicator of both a separate logistic operation and the efficiency of the logistics process can be determined. The best option is determined by the results of structural and parametric optimization. Based on the results of optimization, the optimal parameters of operational forecasting are determined, the justified level of the insurance stock is selected.

Previous research indicates that logistics reorganizing can contribute to improved performance in the construction industry. In this paper, the opportunities for such reorganizing are investigated by focusing on the connection between logistics operations at the construction site and operations undertaken before building materials land at sites. The aims of the study are: (1) to empirically explore strategic actions to reorganize construction logistics by improving the connections between on-site and off-site logistics, and (2) to develop a theoretical framework for analysis of potential options for reorganizing. The empirical inquiry involves a case study of a logistics specialist’s efforts to reorganize on-site logistics and the associated consequences for off-site operations. The study is based on 28 interviews with representatives of 13 organizations. The study provides two types of contributions. First, the theoretical framework, rooted in industrial network theory, enables analysis of reorganizing of activities, resources and actors to improve logistics performance. Second, the empirical study shows that a logistics specialist can improve on-site logistics substantially. However, such reorganizing requires adjustments of off-site logistics that may be resource demanding. Therefore, effective connecting of on-site and off-site operations calls for extended interaction between the actors in terms of joint planning and exchange of information.

In the development of modern logistics, ports which are the hub of land and water transportation of goods, have been playing a more and more significant role in international trade and logistics. In order to form logistics service supply chain alliance of port enterprises, enhance service efficiency of port logistics, it finds out that there are shortage in some aspects by investigating and comparing, including development layout of port service, basic establishment, standard of logistics and technology training and supply chain alliance construction progress. On the basis, in the era of supply chain management or Port Logistics, it provides some suggests for building the alliance in ports service supply chain. These suggestions can provide some advantage for port logistics development.

As the largest archipelago nation in the world, Indonesia’s logistics system has not shown excellence according to the parameters of logistics performance index and based on logistics costs percentages from overall GDP. This is due to the imbalances of trading on the western and eastern regions in Indonesia, which impacts the transportation systems costs to and from the eastern regions. Therefore, it is imperative to improve the competitiveness of Indonesian maritime logistics through maritime logistics network design. This research will focus on three levels of decision making in logistics network design, which include type of ships in the strategic level, shipping routes in the tactical level, and container allocation in the operational level with implementing butterfly routes in Indonesia’s logistics networking problems. Furthermore, this research will analyze the impact of Pendulum Nusantara and Sea Toll routes against the company profits and percentages of containers shipped. This research will also foresee how demand uncertainties and multi-period planning should affect decision making in designing the Indonesian Liner Shipping Network.

The contribution continues the previous section entitled "Concept of logistics service", where the logistics of services is characterized as a special part of the logistics and defined the essence of the services and especially logistics of services. The contirbution deals with the classification and description of logistics of services in various fields. The problem, which the article is devoted to, is the identification and classification of logistics of services in various fields of industry and non-manufacturing sector. The aim is to identify and describe logistics of services in various fields ranging from industry over health care to transportation. Individual fields can be further characterized and specially study, on the logistic side as well as on the logistics of services side. The main orientation for the analysis of the areas is in the logistics of services. Services are an inseparable aspect of human life and the more advanced company, the bigger interest for services. The same is true for the companies from various fields. The richer and more advanced companies, the bigger interest in ensuring their faultless service and professional operation and logistics of services not excluding.

In this paper, we address the problem of collaboration between logistics objects. This collaboration aims to effectively plan, implement, and control the flow of services and goods between a point of origin and a point of destination while ensuring their secure, optimized, and efficient distributions to consumers anytime, anywhere. To this end, we propose a multi-agent based solution where the architecture of each agent includes concurrent individual and collective Belief-Desire-Intension (BDI) structures to support and balance self and collaborative objectives. Our solution, which is adapted and applied to the context of smart logistics, puts a special focus on the important issue of logistics risk management.

The paper examines correlation in planning and organizing logistics of supplying goods and the issue of safety at urban roads; a model to determine the time of goods delivery is proposed on the basis of logistic concept “just-in-time” that takes into account the requirements of road safety on the one hand, and the customer-oriented approach of delivery, applied technologies and management solutions, on the other. The model is based on an integrated approach to the management of logistics processes; it can serve as a basis for decision making among departments in transport enterprises, logistics departments at industrial and trade enterprises, and corporate consumers. The paper also proposes to add the second level parameters to the system of logistics key performance indicators (KPI); these parameters would allow evaluating the target performance in goods transportation, as well as actual performance of logistics operations, including transportation in terms of road safety.

In the face of first-mover advantage in the logistics system of Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) from Europe and the United States and other countries, and various problems in the promotion of logistics EDI system in our country, at this stage, China should adjust and improve effectively from five directions, such as formulating standards, legal protection, enhancing cognitive, support from the government and attention from enterprises in order to truly promote the construction and development of EDI logistics system in China.

Smart logistics solutions have been developed in order to alleviate the adverse impacts of increasing goods’ transport in urban areas. However, the outcome can be questioned, unless proper assessment is conducted to compare impacts during or after implementing these solutions. Simulation has been proved as valuable tool to assess impacts of the logistics solutions, before their actual implementation in the field, and support the decision making process. This study contributes in presenting the current state of practice in modeling smart logistics solutions, provides a roadmap in simulation techniques for urban freight transportsolutionsandimprovesthe knowledge around the patterns currently followed.

The use of logistic approach at machine-building enterprises has considerable results. The application of tools and methods "kaidzen" and lean production al-lows to achieve substantial efficiency increase of en-terprise activity, labor productivity, improvement of product quality and growth of competitiveness without considerable capital investments. These logistic systems are implemented success-fully at the Russian machine-building enterprises. JSC Lyudinovsky Locomotive Works successfully realizes the quality system "5 S kaidzen", and SA "UK "BMZ" in April, 2016 has received certificate of compliance for the Quality management system of Economical production. These systems have allowed to reduce losses considerably and to increase product quality. Thus, applying the logistic approach in the organi-zation of production processes at machine-building enterprises leads to improvement of product quality, increase in competitiveness both on internal and on international markets.

The purpose of this research is to investigate how logistics outsourcing performs activities that have been traditionally carried out within the outsourcer’s company. The study examines the characteristics of logistics and transport services, which are important in cooperation with service providers. Two groups were formed according to the average values of the characteristics of logistics activities. ‘Cost, quality and response’ are important for the first group, while ‘logistics, environment and the ability to adapt to client processes’ are important for the second group. The results of the survey carried out in Slovenian enterprises show that both groups are primarily interested in express freight and shipment services, the difference lying in the understanding of logistics, mutual trust and brand recognition. The findings will be useful both in business practice and for managers, providing them with a better understanding of the performance of logistics outsourcing.

As the U.S. military faces an increasing need to deploy across a range of military operations and environments, the ability to establish and sustain logistics support remains a major challenge. The Engineer Research and Development Center is currently developing the Planning Logistics Analysis Network System (PLANS), a decision support tool, to facilitate strategic and operational logistics planning. This paper describes a site selection protocol for logistics operations occurring without a suitable port, commonly referred to as Logistics over-the Shore (LOTS) operations. The model uses multi- objective decision analysis techniques to weight different operational criteria to determine the best overall site for logistics over the shore operations. This tool will enhance the time and accuracy in determining an optimal site that meets the decision maker’s specific operational needs.

By coordinating their activities, companies aim to provide available products for their clients in the right place and time. Logistics activities have always been essential for companies, and therefore the logistics of the business and the management of the supply chain is a synthesis of many concepts, principles and methods from some of the most traditional fields of marketing, manufacture, accountability and transport, and also of the disciplines of mathematics and economy. This paper deals with the main aspects of logistics, business and management of the supply chain, and with the main aspects of the strategies and competitive incomes of the company. These aspects include transportation, inventory, processing, purchase, storage, treatment, packing, the standards of customer service and production. We have also described the role of the marketing of logistics as a system of planning which guarantees that the order will be executed in time, in the fastest way possible and with a low cost. The effective management of distribution channels affects the firms to realize an efficient process of distribution, in distributing the final products from the producer to the last consumer and in this way it helps these firms to grow their market and sales, and built strong relations with their clients. This paper includes empirical data that were collected by questionnaires and interviews, and subsidiary data as well, based on the review of the existing literature regarding logistics and the management of distribution channels. The collection of primary data was realized by the compilation of a questionnaire, which helped in developing contacts. The research was realized with owners, directors, managers and other holders of Kosovan companies. The sample is intentional (not probable).

The approach to integrate a fourth-party logistics service provider in the German Agricultural Bulk Logistics sector marks a new concept that aims at achieving sustainable development goals in transportation, i. e., by realising full truck loads. Against the background of steadily growing transport volumes, it is of paramount importance to develop sustainability concepts in order to mitigate the impacts on the environment. At present, the processes in the domain of the German Agricultural Bulk Logistics sector are characterised by bulk transports, small and medium sized actors and paper-based processes, which offers high potential for process optimizations in terms of sustainability. Therefore, the German Agricultural Bulk Logistics sector currently explores the approach of including a fourth-party logistics service provider into its transport processes in order to render these more sustainable and reduce costs. The objective of this paper is to present the general idea of implementing a fourth-party logistics service provider into a transportation (planning) process, to clarify the different functions of the participating parties and to introduce the modified transportation planning process as artefact. By means of a mixed method approach, we deliver qualitative insights based on semi-structured interviews and quantitative insights based on simulations. Effects and benefits of the approach are identified by means of a case study. Involving the fourth-party logistics service provider as well as the associated transportation planning process in the mentioned logistics area can lead to cost savings up to 38%, helps to reduce environmental pollution and mitigates social barriers in form of existential fears. The results demonstrate the applicability of the fourth-party logistics service provider approach in the sector and underline that this approach supports the achievement of sustainable development goals in transportation. Furthermore, we identify sustainable characteristics and present the mixed method approach which functions as an assessment framework for the fourth-party logistics service provider approach. Furthermore, by adopting the documented features of sustainable supply chain management in the fourth-party logistics service provider approach, an additional value is generated.

The article deals with the design of service logistics, its definition, intersections and classification. It is meant to define the objects and subjects, which create the service logistics that would be used as a base for the subject, which is oriented to the particular area. The aim of the article is to set a complete and transparent source of information to formulate the areas of service logistics for the scientific-technical materials from the particular area. To meet the objectives, it is necessary to work the analysis of the theoretical knowledge in the area of services. The particular aim is to analyse the current state of the information-giving area, concerning the services and service logistics in general. This analysis will be transformed into the third particular aim, which is the synthesis of the service logistics itself and its defined content.

The paper deals with logistics risk management safety program of new and renovated machines, which as members of the management of company must deal with. There are accountable consequences of untreated risks that may stop a dangerous event. In this case, damage can be life or health of users or it can create damage to their property i.e. that may end up as damage of the machine. Contribution from own perspective is focused on: defining the basic concepts of base solution, logistics system methodology management of technical risks and logistic system analysis of the machinery.

Reverse logistics, the movement of materials back up the supply chain, is recognised by many organisations as an opportunity for adding value. The paper considers the theoretical framework and the conception of reverse logistics in literature and practice. The objective of the article is to propose tangible solutions which eliminate the imbalances in reverse logistics and improve the waste management in the company. The case study focuses on the improvement in the process of waste packaging in the context of sustainable development as a part of reverse logistics in the surveyed industrial company in Slovakia.

In the highly competitive economy, logistics performance measurement is a primary concern among practitioners and academia. The World Bank Logistics Performance Index (LPI) has produced the benchmark for more than 100 countries covering six main components that are related to the trade facilitation in the context of the logistics supply chain. However, the output of the index is based on logistics service providers, thus measuring the performance from the perspective of users, which does not only serve as a comparison study, but also remains as the ultimate study to prove the friendliness of logistics and trade facilitation involved in import and export processes. In the present work, six (6) components were used to assess logistics performance including environmental friendly. Results revealed that trade friendliness by the logistics services is improved and requires further analysis, according to the central hub of each sector in Malaysia. It attracts future development for the manufacturing industry by having excellent logistics services facilities.

Önsel Ekici, Şule (Dogus Author) A country's ability to trade globally depends to a great extent on the traders' access to efficient logistics networks. The efficiency of logistics networks, in its turn, depends on government services, investments, and policies. Building infrastructure, developing a regulatory regime for transport services, and designing and implementing efficient customs clearance procedures are the areas where governments play an important role. One of the measures for logistics performance at national level is the Logistics Performance Index (LPI) published by the World Bank Group. LPI is composed of six indicators namely customs, infrastructure, service quality, timeliness, international shipments, and tracking and tracing. This study argues that there is a close relationship between global competitiveness and the logistics efficiency of a country and it analyzes the validity of these relations using an artificial neural network (ANN) and cumulative belief degrees (CBD) approach. For this purpose; initially, a screening process is carried out to find the World Economic Forum's competitiveness indicators that may have an impact on each of the LPI indicators. Subsequently, the relationship between the competitiveness indicators and LPI indicators is analyzed using ANN where the LPI indicators are represented by CBDs. As a case study, this methodology is used to analyze Turkey's logistics performance and to develop the basic strategies to be adopted by the government to achieve a targeted LPI level for the country. Among the many factors relating to logistics performance, it was found that fixed broadband Internet availability is the most important target area for improvement related to sustainable logistics policy.

The paper deals with the importance of logistics in innovation process. The issue is focused on management of different logistic processes building on the innovation and on innovation process. However, logistics is an essential part of this process. The results describe logistics chain within innovation process for the satisfaction of customers´ demand and fulfilment of customers’ requests on the innovation. This approach involves “7S of logistics” which means: “create proper innovation, in the proper quality, for the right place and in the right time, as well as, with the proper price and package”.

The 2015 Strategic Defence and Security Review envisages a return to contingency following more than a decade of enduring operations in the Middle East, but little thought is given to what this will mean for joint logistics. In this article, Andrew Curtis argues that current arrangements do not produce a fit-for-purpose command-and-control capability, nor do they fulfil the requirement for integrated training of high-readiness logistics units. He instead proposes a combined-arms approach – overseen by the existing, dedicated standing logistics headquarters – to ensure the effective integration of joint logistics force elements in future operations.

Outbound logistics management practices, specific to India have drawn limited attention in the past. Recently though, this sector has garnered renewed attention of researchers and practitioners. Through an exploratory study, we attempt to understand and illustrate the outbound logistics management practices of automotive industry in India. Outbound logistics is divided into a set of interlinked functions based on a logistics framework and described accordingly. Based on findings from the exploratory study and extant literature in this field, a framework for the development of integrated logistics management practices in the aut omotive industry in India is derived and several research directions are proposed.

With the development that the demand for agricultural products consumer market is gradually toward to the direction of complication, the existing agricultural logistics organizational model can’t adapt to the characteristics of agricultural product logistics and the changes in consumer demand. Based on the analysis of virtual operation trend of agricultural product logistics enterprise, this paper explicits the concept and characteristics of agricultural product virtual logistics enterprise and proposes four steps to build an agricultural product virtual logistics enterprise, including the analysis of key elements about agricultural product virtual logistics enterprises, the needs identification about agricultural product logistics business, the project decomposition of agricultural product virtual logistics enterprise and the partner selection in agricultural product virtual logistics enterprise.

Agricultural and fishery products are during transport often require low temperature conditions of transport, in order to meet the basic performance of the product. Enterprises must change the product logistics and transport conditions for cold chain that can be applied to the field of logistics and ensure its quality. In this paper, logistics and transportation in Ningbo, for example, found that the highest close level Ningbo Economic development and agriculture; it is necessary to strengthen the control of agricultural cold chain logistics during transport, logistics and transport to ensure the quality of agricultural products, so that consumers get satisfaction products, and improve the reputation and service levels. From the enterprises themselves, we must introduce advanced technology and equipment, the introduction of outstanding intellectuals, strengthen the company’s management and monitoring level, and improve the cold chain logistics and transport capacity, to provide support and protection for the economic development of enterprises.

In twenty-first century, the information revolution changes the way of human life, changes the enterprise business process, and further promotes the development of economic information and economic globalization. Especially in the new Internet era, the rapid development of E-business enterprise continues to heat up. Under the informatization of E-business enterprises, the circulation of commodities, logistics, capital flow and information flow unite highly. The important part of the development of E-business enterprises cannot be separated from the effective management and controlling of logistics costs, especially the cost of controlling of self-logistics system. The research on logistics cost management is very important for the E-business enterprise management. In order to survive and develop, the E-business enterprise according to the environment and their own development, must continuously improve the logistics cost management method, especially find a breakthrough point in the new economic environment, strengthen its logistics cost controlling, follow the trend of the times, and enhance the self-competitiveness. The article will discuss the logistics cost management status and existing problems in the self-logistics business enterprises, and put forward some suggestions.

When considering a complete ecological assessment of logistics activities and the development of comprehensive decarbonization strategies, it's important to address not only transportation but the warehousing and transshipment processes as well. In national inventories, the total energy demand of warehousing can equal around one quarter of the transport emissions. The issue of energy-efficient processes at logistics facilities gains importance because of changing regulations and market requirements (e.g. the new European Energy Efficiency Directive which prioritizes the energy demand of buildings). Furthermore, logistics companies tend to realize energetic and/or ecological improvements at logistics facilities and report savings achieved.As opposed to logistics facilities, the ecological assessment of transportation and the derivation of appropriate environmental performance indicators (EPI) are widely standardized (cf. EN 16258). How to assess, monitor and manage greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) at warehouses or terminals are still major research and standardization issues. That is why the Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics has defined a comprehensive assessment approach for logistics facilities, calculated specific emission factors and developed a flexible yet detailed allocation scheme for different logistics services (e.g. refrigerated warehousing). This article addresses the developed method and provides an argumentative basis for further standardization. This will be realized by the presentation of a classification scheme for logistics facilities based on ecological aspects and the consideration of attributes of logistics items in the discussion about how GHG emissions of logistics facilities are usually influenced. To illustrate strengths and weaknesses of the method, exemplary implementations at facilities of the research partner, DB Schenker, will be published. Focus will be on the emissions of a cross-docking center, a warehouse and a spare parts depot.The provided assessment method for GHG emissions of logistics facilities and the allocation scheme for EPIs enable logistics companies to monitor and manage the emissions of goods storage and transshipments on a continual basis. Consequently, the method can trigger the development of decarbonization strategies at logistics facilities and foster an organizational or technological improvement process.

The rapid development of the Internet and the use of new possibilities which the digital technologies have brought about, have made significant changes in all the areas of business, including logistics. The question of whether the advantages of information technology should be used in integrated logistics is no longer posed, rather a new question arises - 'How to exploit the advantages of the modern electronic business?'. This work attempts at answering this broad & complex question. All the subsystems of integrated logistics, such as warehousing, order processing and supply, must be integrated in one unique system via IT. A well established information; system may improve the company's attempts to satisfy the customer's needs, thus improving the aim of the integrated logistics. The practice of successful companies has shown that the elements of integrated logistics, such as low stock levels, just in time delivery, the possibility of replacement of goods depend on timely and accurate flow of information. The application of IT enables faster processing of information, which influences the logistics systems management significantly. Nowadays, the most widely used IT in logistics are: DSS, EDI, barcode technology, RFID. The efficient consumer service policies will soon be inconceivable without the use of these technologies, which is the reason, why they are explored with special attention in this part of the paper. The final part of the paper will show a practical example of the usage of RFID technology for the reduction of fresh food waste in retail. RFID technology enables the optimization of the entire logistics system, since it monitors the stock continually regardless of whether the products are in the process of manufacturing, distribution center, a retail store or in transport.

With the increasingly fierce market competition, China has more sound market economy system. Competition in the market price on the important position of the company is also increasing. It increases its profit source which can provide third-party logistics services business. Third-party logistics enterprises should put the customer requirements on an important position and meet the requirements of customers with the lowest prices. Our third-party logistics companies should know as soon as possible about the process of supply chain operations, and actively involved, starting from its own characteristics. And our third-party logistics companies control the entire supply chain from the perspective of the total cost of logistics companies. To accelerate the development of cost control and improvement, our third-party logistics companies improve their competitiveness, become a very important sector of our economy and the development of new economic growth point, build closer cooperation between the various companies in the supply chain and achieve long-term development.

E-commerce is booming with the development of new business model and will be continuously boosted in the several decades. With large number of enterprises carrying out E-commerce, logistics driven under the background has been largely influenced. This paper presents the state-of-the-art E-commerce logistics in supply chain management from a view of practice perspective. Worldwide implementations and corresponding models together with supporting techniques are reviewed in this paper. Typical E-commerce logistics companies from North America, Europe, and Asia Pacific are comprehensively reviewed so as to get the lessons and insights from these practices. Opportunities and future perspectives are summarized from the practical implementations so that interested companies like E-commerce and logistics companies are able to get some guidance when they are contemplating the business.

The purpose of this study is to let the entire logistics system be managed in cyberspace by effectively sharing the logistics information between companies involved in the process, changing conventional commerce to electronic commerce. Most of the goods traded through electronic commerce are small goods involving small business transactions. This produces many problems in shipping and delivery and the leads an inefficient logistics system. Another problems is that there is no sharing of information that process the logistics flow and no systematic management of pick-up and delivery information. As a result, rise in logistics cost, longer delivery period and poor service quality are inevitable and these results are becoming an obstacle in the widespread usage of the electronic commerce. Companies that are part of logistics center can cooperate logistics business in Cyber space and share the entire logistics information through the cyber logistics center. This turns out in effective sharing of logistics information, and thus, allows efficient management of logistics, improves logistics service, and reduces logistics cost.

Such logistics parks play an important role in a corporation creating operating profits as well as acting as a method of alternative investment for individuals. Logistics parks no longer simply store materials, but have become a place that plays an important role in various areas of corporate and individual activities, and thus the analysis of the selection of the location of logistics parks and the related characteristics is extremely important. There are many existing studies on the selection of locations of logistics parks but work on the factors related to location selection by industry seem lacking. As such, in the course of this study we have used preceeding studies to draft a questionnaire on which selection factors affect the selection of logistics park location in different industries and conducted empirical analysis of the questionnaire results to uncover the factors that affect the selection of the locations of logistics parks in different industries.

Logistics has been evolving by facing challenges and adopting innovation. This comment paper provides a better understanding about what will be logistical challenges in the future and how the future logistics industry will be reshaped by these challenges. The future logistics market is expected to offer great benefits for the society, for industry, for each logistics service provider, for all stakeholders, and ultimately for shippers. In the future, the logistics industry needs to design for additional parameters such as carbon emission reduction, reduced fuel consumption, lower traffic congestion, higher visibility on the cargo and information, enhanced collaboration, shared physical distribution, identifying sourcing issues, and increased logistics innovation.

In the fierce competition at the global logistics markets, Korean logistics providers were deemed more vulnerable than global logistics providers in terms of the quality and price competitiveness. To strengthen their competitiveness, logistics providers in Korea have focused on delivering integrated logistics services. In this regard, the Korean government has enacted the “Integrated Logistics Industry Certification Act” in 2006 to assist integrated logistics providers to offer logistics services based on their specialization and differentiation. It has been several years since the system was implemented, and the evaluation of the system implementation was necessary. Hence, in our study, we attempt to examine the efficiency and productivity of fourteen certified Korean logistics providers employing the DEA (Data Envelopment Analysis) method with a five-year panel data since the inception of the Act. Through our static and dynamic analyses, We found that Pantos Logistics and HYUNDAI Glovis are running their businesses at the highest level of efficiency and Hanjin Transportation was the most stable company in their logistics operation.

Purpose. The purpose of the article is to present the factors affecting the implementation of the controlling in logistics enterprises in Poland and importance of this concept for this type of companies. Methodology. The objective has been achieved by obtaining the results of empirical research which was conducted in the years 2011 to 2013 among logistics companies in Poland by means of the questionnaire survey and the telephone interviews. To analyse the data and results descriptive statistics and selected statistical methods have been used. Results. The results of the empirical study showed that there is little difference between the implementation of controlling systems and its lack in logistics enterprises. Most often mentioned factors for implementation of controlling are: the size of businesses and insufficient performance measurement in different areas within a company. Furthermore, all the desirable effects from the implementation of controlling obtained, they were quite highly rated by the surveyed companies, but the most important is to obtain to improvement of activities within planning, organization and controlling. Generally, respondents perceive the controlling as an concept coordination and support in decision – making oriented. This also confirms the location of the controlling departments in the survyed companies, which is located near the main leadership (management board) taking the form of a unit at the headquarters. The theoretical contribution. The importance of controlling system is widely described in the literature in the context of the manufacturing companies, but rarely in the context to logistics enterprises, which currently play a special role in the process of creating value. In addition, the specificity of this type of business entities and allows indicating – concept of logistics controlling. Knowledge of the state of implementation of controlling in logistics enterprises, i.e. factors affecting this process and from this concept effects derived, taking into account the situational and constraints theory, it allows the author to deepen the analysis of this research problem in terms of measurement of cost, performance and other aspects of logistics. Practical implications. The research problem by the author undertaken is important for business practice. Despite a positive trend of the implementation of controlling in logistics enterprises in Poland, further analysis of research results shows that many of tasks of controlling are done in other departments e.g. logistics departments, and tools of controlling are often used occasionally. This may mean that the analyzed concept is not well known in the logistics business. Therefore, the scientists with practitioners together should develop effective tools and methods that would be useful within logistics controlling, taking into account the financial and non-financial aspects. Health-care costs are increasing rapidly in the developed countries. For many years, logistics has been identified as one of the major cost factors. Such escalating cost is a serious concern for most hospitals as providers of affordable health care but many time-sensitive logistics services are essential and indispensable. In this paper, we discuss various logistics issues that are cost concerns for most hospitals and address a particular hospitalinternal courier service logistics as an example. Applying optimization-based approaches on real-world data from a particular hospital in Portugal, we demonstrate how efficiency and effectiveness can be improved. Computational results show that solution approach based on optimization and process re-engineering can not only improve the performance measure by more than 50% but also reduce resources necessary to maintain the same level of service as before by 16.67%. With the rapid development of e-commerce, customer demand for diversity and timeliness has also increased, in fact, B2C e-commerce business lead higher requirement for logistics service. At the same time, the aviation logistics has become a new growth point of China's logistics transportation development, airport logistics construction and development has become an important force to promote regional economy .In this paper, we make empirical analysis about the logistics performance evaluation of Zhengzhou airport, China. The result shows that reliability, economy, time, service flexibility and information are five key factors that will influence the logistics performance. On this basis, we put forward relevant policy suggestions.

Advanced computer systems played an important role in economic life for a long time. We can notice it in all aspects of business operations, including logistics. IT systems are important not only in the logistics activities of individual operators, but they also improve activities within integrated supply chains. The article focuses on the proper selection of IT system for logistics operations. It presents a comparison of selected IT systems dedicated to logistics: their range of functionalities and features, as well as the ability to use it in specific types of enterprises. The main aim of the article is to analyze the suitability of each ERP systems in two main areas of logistics: storage and transport. The author also attempts to select optimal solution for a particular economic operator.

This requires the coordination of the flow of material, money and information. The velocity of doing business has increased and manual operations have been automated. Modern Logistic Information Systems (LIS) with all its logistics related sub systems are replacing muscle power with brain power and pencil and paper with smart phones and social media. The virtual aspect of logistics has become equally important to the physical realm of transportation and warehousing. Supply Chain Management (SCM) deals with getting the right stuff to the right people at the right time in the right amount. To accomplish this task there are a number of more or less integrated logistics software application. Demand forecasting models based on historical data from data marts and data warehouses with built in seasonality and pricing models. Load planning software to appropriately palletize, containerize and load trucks, trains and vessels. Route planning software with real time traffic and weather updates combined with Global Positioning Systems (GPS) to reduce transportation time and fuel costs. Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) to receive, put-away, store, receive and marshal the shipment. Electronic documents accompany the shipment from purchase order, letter of credit to customs clearing and back-haul charges. While these applications in the past have been mostly desktop applications used in the office at the management level, the move is to mobile applications. Logistics support plays a critical role in the delivery of quality health care services, particularly in developing countries. This study utilised systems methodology and Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) analysis to develop a support framework for a Vision Centre in rural Vietnam. The methodology employs elements of both “soft” (in particular Checkland's Soft Systems Methodology approach) and “hard” systems practices to develop an accessible and robust logistics planning tool.
