This article explores the concept of joking nationalism, which captures how seriousness and silliness as public modalities interact to shape sentiment and understanding of national identity. Combining humor studies concepts with online ethnography and rhetorical analysis, we show how joking nationalism allows for reflexivity regarding national identity ambiguities, in how the Reddit community r/Sweden responded to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the subsequent Swedish NATO-application process. r/Sweden offers space for open-ended, playful, and negotiating rhetoric, aiding communal self-exploration and emphasizing reflexivity, at a time when Swedishness is challenged. African architecture has historically been subjected to variants of appropriation and materialisation with multifarious effects on identity formation. In particular, its forced engagement with colonial powers followed by relatively repressive post-colonial regimes, left legacies of multi-layered elitist and totalitarian inscriptions. This article critically reviews the ways in which Zimbabwean iconic architecture has come about and how it produces identities. It specifically considers ancient, modern and postmodern architecture namely state owned and controlled buildings, museums and monuments, statues and cityscapes. The article argues that the various forms of architectural re-figuration do not necessarily signify collective historic memorialisation, heritage preservation and national identity formation but are part of a hegemonic statecraft. Using data from an original country-wide survey (N = 4,000) and series of in-depth interviews conducted across Kazakhstan in 2023, this paper explores respondents' perceptions of civic and ethnic identity and belonging in Kazakhstan's nation-building project. This article also serves as an enhanced follow-up study of an earlier survey-based project conducted in 2016 (N = 1,600) across Kazakhstan. Usage and cross-comparison of these comprehensive datasets collected in 2016 and 2023 will permit to trace changes and dynamics in the national identity perception in Kazakhstan and to assess the interplay between the civic nation-building policies of the Kazakhstani state and perceptions of ordinary Kazakhstanis. The United States boasts the largest Nigerian diaspora, a group reputed to be among the most educated and highest achieving diasporans in that country. In explaining the Nigerian successes in the US, this article identifies Nigerian exceptionalism as a key factor, here framed around the concept of national narcissistic grandiosity. Although Nigeria is not a nation-state but a state of many nations, Nigerians in the US are constructing the nearest thing to an ideational national identity outside Nigeria. This identity formation is based on the idea that diaspora, which means dispersing or scattering, often undergoes a three-way evolutionary process of shedding, retaining and acquiring identity, which creates interstitial spaces for the emergence of new identities. Contributing to previous research on schoolscape, this study explores artifacts crafted by international student organizations (i.e., flyers and roll-up banners) across a U.S. university campus. Specifically, drawing on elements from geosemiotics (i.e., visual semiotics, place semiotics, and interaction order), the authors examined (1) how the producers convey their identities through both multilingual and multimodal practices, and (2) how the artifacts interact with the surrounding space. Considering the ephemeral nature of the artifacts under scrutiny, pictures of the actual artifacts were collected over a two-month period in 2024. The findings show that the sign makers constructed their identities through varied semiotic resources, including text, images (e.g., national flags, natural elements, historical landmarks), typography (e.g., typographic mimicry), colors indexing ethnocultural and/or national identities or university affiliation, code preferences, and linguistic choices creating multiple interaction orders. Regarding the emplacement of the artifacts, different patterns emerged, including a preference for authorized spaces over those associated with transgressive semiotics, and, more generally, a shift towards digital spaces for organizational promotion. The absence of ripeness in Russia’s war against Ukraine begs the question of why both China and Türkiye have intervened diplomatically in the conflict. One possible answer resides in the role of mediation and diplomacy in ameliorating the ‘authoritarian control problem.’ Informed by constructivist insights on the co-constitutive relationship between identities and interests, we advance the hypothesis that Chinese and Turkish involvement in the war in Ukraine is primarily explained by its utility for consolidating national identity and, by extension, securing regime authority over domestic society. We test this hypothesis through use of critical event analysis, examining major installments in the trajectory of Chinese and Turkish diplomacy in the war. Our analysis reveals a correlation between Chinese and Turkish mediation and the self-serving process of national identity consolidation. We conclude with consideration of the implications of this finding for this special issue’s theme of ‘peace through victory.’ [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The unity of a nation is founded on an ‘us/them’ opposition that creates a ‘constitutive outsider’ within or outside the nation state. The formation of national identities is therefore an outcome of internal conflicts. Using Derrida’s deconstructionist approach, this article extends the language of difference beyond the human friend/enemy frontier in forming national imaginations to include the creation of a constitutive outsider through agitations against commercial brands. It is argued that the ‘Other’ in national identity can be commercial actors, especially when the homeland’s internal outsider emanates from anti-brand narratives against established local brands. Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) is used to illustrate how the anti-brand flare-ups in a spontaneous call for product boycott and buycott in a Kenyan Facebook group covertly united the nation through the use of the exclusive and inclusive ‘we’ of consumer nationalism. The exclusive ‘we’ in Facebook comments brought together the reader and the writer, with the outsider being the boycotted brand, while with the inclusive ‘we’ of reader, writer, and good brand, nationhood was seen in comments campaigning for Kenyans to ‘buycott’ the brand. It is proposed that anti-brand activism be considered ‘resistance’ that creates a constitutive outsider − the enemy around whom the nation is reproduced. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In Panama, "Generation Y" was identified at the beginning of this millennium, which was two decades after the first reports of such a generation. However, the overall evolution caused by globalization and digital development generated changes at the collective level in society, as is to be expected. This article aims to provide a look at how Panamanians identified as Generation Y or Millennials express their national identity, values, and sense of belonging. This article presents a descriptive approach performed on the responses to a national survey of a sample of 384 people considered Millennials for the project "Panama's millennials: sense of belonging and national identity in a globalized society". The main findings show that this generation is very much in favor of equal rights between men, women, immigrants, and disabled persons; they advocate pro-social issues but show differences regarding the protection of the future. The majority of them disagree with civil society organizations, do not identify with the health system, nor do they recognize quality in the education system or state-sponsored employment-generating activities. Alongside concerns for animal welfare, concerns for land, water, and climate are undermining established food identities in many parts of the world. In Aotearoa New Zealand, agrifood relations are bound tightly into national identities and the materialities of export dependence on dairying and agriculture more widely. Dairy/ing identities have been central to national development projects and the politics that underpin them for much of New Zealand's history. They are central to an intransigent agrifood political ontology. For the last decade, however, they have been challenged by the identity politics of ethical food consumption. This paper explores the ensuing contests and asks how they are reshaping agrifood identities. We draw on interviews with 15 participants in Aotearoa New Zealand who have made dietary transitions that reduce or exclude dairy products. Our aim is not to identify a new post-dairying identity or claim a reconfigured national identity, but to examine the collision of production-consumption values in the context of a dominant place-based food identity. We ask how participants navigate contradictory commitments to becoming 'good environmental citizens' whilst remaining 'good national citizens'. The paper offers insights for examining similar struggles elsewhere and the potential to shift agrifood relations and undermine entrenched political ontologies through ethical food consumption values. This study seeks to determine to what extent the Baghdadi Shahsavans have been successful in maintaining their tribal identity after years of living in Qom and what strategies have they employed for this? The method used in this research for data collection and analysis is the Grounded Theory. The findings show that the majority of Baghdadi Shahsavans have a much greater sense of belonging to tribal identity compared to urban identity. Even their interest in Qom arises through tribal affiliation, which is strengthened through intra-group relations. The findings show that the preservation of tribal identity has been possible because of three strategies: (1) the demarcation of identity, which results from cultural pride and attributing positive features to own tribe, (2) the preservation of cultural identity, which includes the preservation of customs and traditions, adherence to intra-group visits, cherishing tribal music, and speaking in Shahsavani, and (3) insisting on the tribal identity in response to threatening dangers. This study shows that Baghdadi Shahsavans prioritize their Iranian national identity over urban identity indicating that both tribal and national identities hold more significance for them compared to urban identity. This study also examined the lifestyle of Baghdadi Shahsavans after making settlements in Qom. The paper examines some issues of Hungarian-Slovak national reconciliation. Above all, from the point of view of the fear that a critique of the internal contradictions of national identity, which examines the form of identity to which they owe their influence and power, can provoke in the bearers of traditional national identity. Awareness, culture, and national identity are fundamental aspects of an individual or group's character, closely tied to their reality and existence. Identity encompasses a system of material, moral, and social elements, ultimately forming an integrated intellectual system of knowledge. This integration is achieved through a sense of belonging and national identity, as exemplified by the French philosopher Descartes, who famously stated, "I think, therefore I exist," emphasizing that cognition leads to a sense of existence. Since the establishment of the Iraqi state in 1921, social diversity has been a defining characteristic of Iraqi society. However, with the occupation, significant challenges emerged, including sectarian and denominational divisions fueled by cultural and ideological differences. These divisions facilitated regional and international interventions, turning Iraq into a battleground for foreign interests at the expense of the Iraqi people. Such interventions undermined Iraq's sovereignty and sparked conflicts among political leaders over the division and fragmentation of the nation, a reality that has profoundly impacted every facet of Iraqi life. This article deals with the research of identity using toponyms in Albanian and Kosovar city centres, bringing a different perspective to the question via comparatively examining the urban toponyms. The research was undertaken in the centres of five Albanian and five Kosovar cities, and the names of streets, squares, and parks have been placed into categories: people, geography, events, organizations, and other. Urban toponyms have been categorized according to importance on the local, national, pan-Albanian, and international levels. We analyse the geopolitical background and current status of the problem of identity, which is reflected in urban toponyms, and conclude that there is significant evidence to point out that the two identities have diverged. Kosovo's national identity, as reflected in its urban toponyms, is formed by its struggle for independence and not an unequivocal adoption of a pan-Albanian identity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This research focuses on the development of national identity among students in rural schools in Havana between 1936 and 1952. There is a scarcity of studies on rural education in Cuba and its role as a social institution. Most research has concentrated on the historical progression of the educational process rather than on the specific characteristics of rurality in Cuba and its influence on the formation of national identity. As a result, this study is grounded in gnoseological, axiological, and practical-methodological frameworks concerning rural schools in Havana during the specified period, allowing for the revelation of their contribution to the development of national identity between 1936 and 1952. This enriches historical studies on these educational institutions, which is the primary objective of the research. The Arabian Gulf region has witnessed tremendous social, political and economic change in recent decades. The State of Qatar's ambitious global visions mean that it is a significant player in both creating and riding these transformational waves. Yet with a minority citizen population of only ~12%, protecting the language, culture and values of the nation in the midst of rapid development and modernization presents unique challenges that most governments do not have to grapple with. This has led to strategic and legal stances and policies as well initiatives by governmental and non‐governmental organizations to maintain and develop national identity and Qatari culture. Through a systematic literature review, this paper synthesizes available evidence regarding national identity for Qatari citizens. It explores dominant themes that emerged in the literature related to identity in Qatar, namely: architecture, education and language policy, gender, media and social media, museums, politics and governance, and sports. Each are synthesized, from which we offer reflections on what is (not) known regarding national identity, identifying a number of areas in need of research related to better understanding the complexity and diversity within the citizen population. This research highlights the crucial role of design in tracing cultural transformation and its implications for national identity, particularly in the context of Indonesia-China bilateral relations. Design, as a reflection of culture, embodies the values, beliefs, and aesthetics of a nation. The objectives of this research are to (1) explore the role of design in cultural transformation, (2) analyze the influence of bilateral relations on design, (3) assess national identity in design, (4) identify design innovations for cultural diplomacy, and (5) investigate cultural dissemination through design. This study employs a qualitative method with a case study approach. Data were collected through literature review, document analysis, and in-depth interviews with design experts, cultural scholars, and government officials from Indonesia and China. The results reveal that bilateral relations between Indonesia and China have led to significant cultural transformations in design. Cultural exchange and design collaboration have produced innovative works that incorporate elements from both countries. This transformation has influenced the national identities of both countries by strengthening the sense of unity, increasing tolerance and intercultural understanding, and creating new opportunities for cultural diplomacy and bilateral cooperation. The conclusion of this research is that design is not only a tool to reflect culture but also a bridge to strengthen cooperation and understanding between cultures. Culture-specific vocabulary denotes objects that bear cultural weight and are not readily translatable or understood in other languages. The present study explores cultural items in an endangered language, Juhuri (Judeo-Tat), the traditional language of Mountain Jews (MJ) who immigrated to Israel and the United States. A set of ten items, five cultural and five neutral, served as stimuli for a picture recognition task inserted in a questionnaire distributed to MJs from three generations (G1, G1.5, and G2). In addition, participants rated their ethnocultural and national identities and their level of Juhuri proficiency. Results yielded significantly better recognition of culture-specific over neutral items by G1.5 and G2 participants, but no difference among more proficient G1 participants. Regression analyses revealed a significant effect of MJ identity on the recognition of cultural items. Neither Israeli nor American national background had an effect on the recognition of either cultural or neutral items. The findings shed light on the role of ethnocultural identity in the recognition of culture-specific vocabulary. Results are discussed in terms of research on heritage language maintenance and shift, identity, and the status of the MJ community in both countries. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Understanding the dynamics of the global market and the need to stand out in an increasingly competitive environment, countries choose to transform themselves into attractive consumer products through their country brands. In 2005, during the Álvaro Uribe administration, the Colombia is Passion campaign was launched with the objective of promoting a new image of the country at the global level. The objective of this research was to identify the aesthetic and ideological forms that given through the national identity discourse of this brand. A qualitative study was developed based on a hermeneutic method and a retrospective approach. A semi-structured interview guide was applied to 24 participants. The data were systematized and analyzed through nvivo 12. It was found that Colombia is Passion was based on the reproduction of the belief system of a professional elite through processes of aestheticization of politics in the public space, which was apprehended, internalized, and reproduced again by the individual, structuring a discourse of national identity based on passion. This research attests to the principle of originality by starting with an innovative proposal that proposes a different perspective in the approach to the Country Brand phenomenon. Anniversaries occupy an important place in the dynamics of Argentine schools. Their origin dates back to the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, when they were installed by the State as tools for social cohesion and construction of a homogeneous national identity. Currently, didactics discusses their link with the disciplinary teaching of Social Sciences, as well as their capacity to generate new meanings. In this framework, October 12th is a key date by which different readings of the past are called into question. "Day of race," which was established in 1917, has been historically approached from the European perspective of discovery. Within a framework of different claims, its name was changed in 2010, when it became the "Day of Respect for Cultural Diversity", thus opening the door to new meanings and possible approaches. This article aims to delve into the ways in which the October 12th anniversary is worked on in two institutions in the south of Córdoba: one at Preschool and the other at the Primary Level. We seek to identify the links between the commemoration and teaching discipline, the sense of identity that is put into play, and the place given to regional history in the reconstruction of the past. The defining feature of the nuclear-free movement in New Zealand was people power: a groundswell of popular support which achieved a major change in government policy and became a turning point in our national identity. Creative expression was crucial to building visibility for the cause. By looking at the textiles produced at this time, we can both read the history of the movement and understand how New Zealanders saw ourselves and our place in the Pacific. Banners, fabric prints, and t-shirts used conventional protest messaging like peace signs and caricatures of key political figures. But it is the imagery chosen to support these messages which echoes a wider conversation in New Zealand's identity as a Pacific nation. In the 1980s and 1990s, an emerging "Pasifika" movement in craft and fashion adopted Pacific Island imagery to create a unique New Zealand style. Anti-nuclear textile designs formed a part of this, drawing upon the romanticized image of palm-tree-fringed islands, a natural paradise in which grotesque mushroom clouds had no place. The objective of this study is to delve into the intricate facets of national identity as manifested in the historical trajectory of Hajduk Split. It endeavours to scrutinize the interplay and evolution of diverse identity constructs, encompassing regional, national, and supranational dimensions. Furthermore, the research aims to dissect the influence of successive political regimes on the club and its responsive mechanisms, thereby offering a nuanced comprehension of the intricate dynamics shaping identity formation and evolution. The main findings of this article highlight the ability of Hajduk to navigate and maintain its distinct identity amidst the backdrop of shifting ideologies. Despite the prevailing ideological currents, the club managed to function relatively independently while preserving its identity. The analysis underscores the importance of discerning the nature and direction of external pressures and the club’s capacity to resist them, particularly evident in the tension between Yugoslavism and pan-Croatian sentiments. Locating the people's intense identity consciousness in the region within the larger Indian national identity crisis, this article deals with how the distinct religious identities and practices of the Hindus and Christians are forged in Northeast India. As a betwixt and between people (neither fully Indic nor Sino, but a combination), the people's new identities are shaped between South Asian Indic culture and East Asian Confucian values. While conversion has been attributed to Christianity mostly, the article shows how the people in the region converted from their Sino-Tibetan primal religion to Hinduism, forming distinct Hindu traditions. Despite the growing attention to the everyday, nation-building literature has paid insufficient attention to the ways in which national identity is strengthened as a side effect of measures that are not initially conceived of as nation-building activities. This article examines contemporary examples of such non-traditional processes of nation-building by reviewing the unintended consequences of political measures not directly targeting identity construction. We focus on processes of identity construction in Kyrgyzstan and Estonia that have emerged as a side effect of nation branding. In both cases, the primary goal of the national government was not necessarily to boost national identity but rather to re-brand the country for international audiences. We argue, however, that these efforts at external image projection and change have also influenced the ways in which national identities are understood, perceived, and reproduced by domestic populations. The article addresses the issues of population migration, both planned and systematic, as well as uncontrolled and illegal, which have become an integral part of the existence of a globalized world. These processes serve as a vivid example of the blurring of borders and demonstrate the deepening interdependence of various factors and regions in the socio-economic, political, and cultural-spiritual spheres. Understanding migration processes, as multidirectional movements within the socio-cultural space of individuals and communities, driven by both objective and subjective reasons, is particularly important for Ukraine during the war with Russia, which has led to the displacement of numerous internally displaced persons, as well as the migration of millions of women and children beyond Ukraine's borders. The concept of liminality, especially in migration, is explained, explored, and philosophically substantiated, and how it influences migration processes in general, acculturation, and the adaptation of emigrants to foreign environments. It explores how this concept affects migration processes in general, acculturation, and the adaptation of emigrants to a foreign environment. The study looks into changes in micro-and macro-societies, the cultural environment of emigrants, and presents the author's concept of acquiring dual identity as one of the positive outcomes of the liminal state of emigrants. This concept suggests that quality integration into a foreign space can be achieved while preserving one's own national identity and gaining a new status as an immigrant. This paper explores English national identity through qualitative interviews with English-identifying voters in rural South-West England, amidst post-Brexit and COVID-19 uncertainties. Analysing 16 in-depth interviews, the study uncovers micro-level foundations of English identity, revealing a multifaceted view where participants consider it an absent identity. As members of the dominant cultural group, they define Englishness by their perceived 'normal,' distancing anything diverging from their norms as foreign. The study suggests a connection between English identity and reactive resentment towards perceived asymmetrical identity norms compared to neighbouring devolved nations. These findings shed light on the nuanced nature of English identity in rural areas and contribute to discussions about fostering a progressive and inclusive English identity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article explores the dynamic relationship between food, national identity and tourism in the context of Greenland, showing how food contributes to identity development and how in turn identity communication fuels tourism attraction and gastrodiplomacy. In the following, we first offer a review of current literature on national food identity and introduce Greenland, an Arctic nation moving toward independence from the kingdom of Denmark, as an interesting and understudied field of study. Drawing on four case narratives, we describe different food tourism situations which illustrate four examples of Greenlandic food practices. In our analysis of Greenlandic food experiences, we show the coexistence of different Greenlandic food practices in the tourism offer: food as traditional, as natural, as hybrid and as innovative. In our conclusion, we come back to the issue of national identity, discussing the role of tourism in maintaining and constructing food identities in Greenland. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Nations are resilient and often taken for granted as an analytical category in most social sciences. Academic literature has highlighted the industrial and capitalistic origins of nationalism, espousing the formation of modern statehood as well as the revitalized re-elaboration of ethno-genetic elements into that same modernity, even when 'imagined' and 'invented'. Certainly, the organizational and ideological capacities of nation-states are sociologically 'grounded', yet less attention has been given to nations' capacity to adapt their sociogenetic identity. The Balkans is a geography where various nations live together. Turks, who first appeared in the Balkan lands in the 4th century, have been extremely influential in the region since the Ottoman period. Balkan Turks developed Turkish literature through various publications in the cities they lived in. Sesler Journal enabled the Turks living in North Macedonia to continue their literary activities. In Sesler Journal, the works of many Balkan Turkish writers, including poetry, stories, scientific publications, and theater texts, have met with the readers. There are elements of their cultural identity in various artistic activities of the Balkan Turks. One of the branches of art in which cultural identity comes to the fore is theater. In this study, an analysis was made of the songs and folk songs identified in Turkish theater based on the theater script published in Sesler Journal. As an important part of Turkish theater, the works of writers such as Şerafettin Nebi, Hüseyin Süleyman, Süreyya Yusuf, Hasan Mercan, İlhami Emin, Cemail Maksut were examined in Sesler Journal. This research was carried out to identify and qualitatively analyze literary elements such as songs and folk songs that are frequently encountered in theater scripts. A remarkable amount of song and folk song usage is observed in the North Macedonian Turkish Theater during the examined period. This situation has been closely associated with the need to protect and preserve national identities in the post-Ottoman period. It is seen that Turkish theater is an important tool to ensure the continuation of Turkish identity. Songs and folk songs stand out in theater scripts not only as entertainment elements but also as important elements that enable the audience to establish an emotional bond by reflecting a cultural and historical background. It is thought that the intensive use of such literary elements contributes to the integration of the audience with their national identities and to the process of keeping these identities alive. This essay was prompted by a review by the Scottish poet, Robert Crawford, of Clare Bucknell’s recent book, The Treasuries: Poetry Anthologies and the Making of British Culture (2023). It provides a reading of Bucknell’s book in the light of other anthologies. So it is not in itself a review but, rather, a series of reflections on the construction and nature of anthologies stimulated by my reading of Bucknell’s book. Crawford insists on the omissions in Bucknell’s account from a Scottish perspective. But I want to take in a wider perspective, one that includes national identity. Initially, I focus on the index and on the entry for Palgrave’s father and his Jewish name. This leads to a discussion on the authoritative appearance of The Golden Treasury and perhaps on what it is hiding. The essay takes issue with the partial view of English poetry, where Wordsworth is afforded the most poems, and eighteenth-century poets hardly feature. The second half discusses Bucknell’s chapter on the popularity of poetry therapy and her omission of any discussion of recent women’s poetry. The anthology she dismisses out of hand is Yeats’s The Oxford Book of Modern Verse 1892-1935. Such a conclusion invites a response at some length. The focus then shifts to another Irish writer, William Allingham, and his largely forgotten anthology, Nightingale Valley, which was published the year before The Golden Treasury and which Palgrave sought to better. In his thought-provoking choices, which includes possibly the first printing of Blake’s poems in an anthology, Allingham provides a counter to those who read poetry and literature simply in terms of the way they reflect history. Using the relational identity perspective of critical constructivism, it is proposed that Japan's national identity (i.e., the state narrative) has been a political construction made by decision-making leaders, and has been established on selectively replicating foreign entities, with the aim of providing order and legitimation to the authorities while pursuing a distinctive nationalist narrative. In the Edo period with China, in the imperial era with the West, and in the post-war phase with the United States; It is observed that there continually exists a teacher o "civilized center" (Hua) who exerts great influence over the country, and that Japanese leaders seek to selectively replicate, while maintaining a particular notion of national identity. The great temporal extension of the research is defended, arguing the nature of the objective as well as the importance of a broad and different view other than modern State-centrism in International Relations. Electoral spots are an especially significant element of political parties' campaign strategies, and they are keys for building their identities. This article analyzes the spots from the election campaign for Spain's general elections of April 28, 2019, and it observes how the differentiation strategies of the parties can be understood through their different attitudes to the historic process. Using references to memory studies, it proposes a semiotic square that summarizes the different positions of each party with respect to this variable. In so doing, the article intends to shed light on the profound logic of positioning used in these elections. Moreover, as the different attitudes to the historic process seem to be related to contrasting ways to consider the national identity, we believe that the proposed model could be extended to other similar cases. This article explores how women contributed to the construction of the nation through the transformation of culinary culture. Women from both elite and popular sectors undertook to change daily habits with the aim of creating a modern society that could foster the republican project. The article analyses the changes in eating habits, the position of women in society, and how they adapted the consumption of European goods and recipes. This article proposes to review the categories through which the study of the relationship between national identities and football was founded in Latin America, especially those of "public arena", inspired by the work of Clifford Geertz, and that of "free zones" of a culture, introduced by the Argentine anthropologist Eduardo Archetti to investigate the foundation of a "popular sporting nationalism" in the early twentieth century. To this end, it examines the ways in which Argentina's recent victory in the Qatar 2022 World Cup was narrated in television accounts and in the experience of fans, as well as the vicissitudes of its (impossible) political capture. This essay explores the concept of nation branding and its importance in shaping a country's image and reputation on the global stage. It discusses this concept using the example of two Latin American countries, Peru, and Mexico. As nations increasingly compete on the global arena, branding strategies have become essential for projecting a positive image that attracts investment, tourism, and international recognition. Moreover, nation branding is steadily growing in importance and more and more countries around the world are devoting resources to developing their nation brand. By exploring the cases of Peru and Mexico, this study shows the components of nation branding in practice. In addition, the essay discusses the potential benefits of implementing a nation branding strategy, especially in an increasingly connected and competitive world. This paper aims to shed light on the complexities of nation branding and encourages a critical examination of the strategies used by countries in defining their national identity on the global stage. An extensive literature investigates individual support for European integration. However, support for differentiated integration has only recently become an important topic of study for public opinion scholars. Previous literature on this issue has not probed how differentiated integration is shaped by exclusively national identities and whether the effect varies by how differentiation has been framed. Using survey data from 2020 to 2021, I show that exclusively national citizens are most likely to support differentiated integration that allows for greater national autonomy and may oppose differentiation whose primary goal is to facilitate further integration. However, I find no clear link between elite framing of differentiated integration and popular support for it. This raises important questions both about what kind of differentiated integration will enjoy public legitimacy and how cues shape support for European Union (EU) differentiation. The purpose of the article is to highlight the fundamental markers and national essential codes of the cultural-historical progress of Ukrainian identity based on the historiographic elaboration in the field of identity (national, civilizational), emphasizing the particular importance of the problem raised in the conditions ofa borderline situation (borderline situations actualize the need to rethink all components of the nation existence and the search for new paradigms of development) -- Russia's war against Ukraine. The methodology is based on the complex use of scientific principles (historicism, impartiality, systematicity, continuity, etc.), as well as the application of general scientific, interdisciplinary, special historical methods (generalization, comparative analysis, intellectual reflection, historiographical analysis and synthesis, historical-chronological, historical-comparative, systematic -structural, historical-genetic, historical-typological, etc.) and approaches (interpretive, cultural-historical, civilizational, systemic, system-thinking, pluralistic, etc.). Conclusions. The full-scale Russo-Ukrainian war is full of critical situations in which the problems of existence, freedom, civilizational choice, and the formation of a complete national identity acquire a special and exceptional meaning. The Ukrainian reality actualizes the need to understand the national essential codes and outline the worldview guidelines for the nation progress. The difficulties in solving this problem are conditioned by the fact that the various models of national identity generated by discourses do not always correspond to the mental programs of individuals who make up such a community as a nation. By choosing victory in the hard confrontation with the Russian aggressor, we are constructing our civilizational future and building our civilizational subjectivity. In today's realities, we are witnessing a radical transformation of Ukrainian society, rethinking the value-based paradigm, constructing identity parameters, and forming a new generation of Ukrainians. Turning to the methodology of the national-existential hermeneutics of the cultural-historical existence of Ukrainian identity from the perspective of searching for the national horizon and the civilizational matrix of Ukrainians seems to be extremely important. Many studies point to the importance of parents in shaping the ethnic and/or political identity of their offspring. However, there is a lack of consensus on the pattern of influence of fathers and mothers in the process of political socialization. While studies in the United States and Japan show the mother to be more influential than the father in transferring political identity to children, studies in China show that both parents have equal importance. We suggest that these differences are owing to different trajectories of modernization. Using Taiwan as a case study and drawing on the theory of compressed modernity, we demonstrate how compressed modernization generates a different shift in the pattern of parental political socialization. We show that before Taiwan's experience of compressed modernization, both parents influenced children's sense of Taiwanese-ness, while only the father was influential after compressed modernization. We also show the significance of a macro-level perspective for explaining differences in the micro-level socialization perspective. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This research analyzes the variation of identity and stereotype represented by the protagonists of these three Ecuadorian films, studying how these films propose an idea of national identity where identification, image and stereotype prevail. A tus espaldas, Ratas, Ratones Rateros y El Pescador is the object of study, so I carry out a film analysis of the scenes that I consider of vital importance to understand the different representations of identity, based on concepts of culture, representation, stereotype, cinema, identification and identity, inferring how these concepts affect the behavior and conduct of the Ecuadorian mountain and coastal mestizo. Within the objective, the theoretical understanding of identity and the interpretation of the proposal of cinema to represent national identity stands out, therefore, definitions and notes on debates on identity are addressed, accompanied by the visual analysis of the selection of scenes., which is considered that identity is at stake, building the theoretical position, and highlighting the representation of identity. This study examines how tribes in Jordan defend their members accused of corruption. The data come from three major public statements by three large tribes in response to highly publicized accusations of corruption. Using positioning theory, the analysis shows that this collectivist discourse is centered on self-glorification; stressing loyalty, belonging, and national identity; invoking religious narratives; and attacking accusers. It relies heavily on intertextuality, invoking of past events and master narratives, and recreating local traditional storylines. While Western culture focuses on defending the individual, collectivist culture focuses on defending the group/community and reflects the group's feeling of being a victim. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Republic of Moldova is one of the largest wine producers in Europe, and winemaking, both domestic and commercial, is deeply embedded in its society. State officials, wine marketing specialists, and subsistence winemakers in their discourses often tie wine and winemaking to a national framework, conceptualizing it as a "cultural product" that is typically Moldovan. The author makes use of ethnographic fieldwork to analyse how national identification becomes something salient among workers in the wine industry—if it does so at all—and what role nationhood plays in winemaking workers' self-image. That wage work in winemaking means different things to manual workers and managers, and to subsistence winemakers. For the workers, their dependence on low remuneration and the division of the production process makes their work less a matter of national identification and "cultural production" than a purely instrumental activity.
