Since the 1960s, when numerous analyses of the culture of contemporary society, in which video games are integrated, have been carried out, they have been increasingly conceived as a cultural product, in contrast to those approaches that have tended to highlight the video game as a technological element. From the perspective of the Frankfurt School, which coined and developed the concept of cultural industry, video games produce and reproduce certain values and ideas of modern society and are immersed in the so-called phenomenon of gamification. GENDER-based violence , *EDUCATIONAL sociology , *BACHELOR'S degree , *VIOLENCE prevention , *EDUCATIONAL benefits - Abstract
The core theme of this article is the issue of education and gender violence and social networks. The population group to be analysed is made up of young university students from the Bachelor's Degree in Education and Sociology at the University of Alicante, since this is a risk group when it comes to reproducing sexist behaviour and, furthermore, because education in egalitarian values can be fundamental in the prevention of gender violence. There are many variables to be taken into account in the phenomenon of gender violence, including age, which is also related to education. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

YOUNG adults , *RURAL youth , *REGIONAL development , *GOVERNMENT policy , *RURAL-urban migration , *FARMERS' attitudes - Abstract
In the last decades, Brazil has followed an increase in the debate on the relevance of family farming, mainly concerning its importance as a transformation agent of the rural and for regional development. Thus, education, understood as a transforming agent, gains a fundamental role. In this sense, this work aimed to understand the perception of family farmers in the municipality of Vitorino, Paraná, about education in rural areas and its importance as a strategic element for the maintenance of young people in the countryside. For this, interviews were conducted with twenty family farmers in the municipality. From the interviews, it was possible to understand that although most rural schools in the municipality were closed, rural children and youth have access to education, but in urban schools. However, the urban curriculum, for the most part, does not value the rural way of life, which ends up contributing to the exodus of rural youth. In this sense, it is important to create educational strategies and public policies to strengthen the succession and permanence of young people in the countryside, ensuring the social reproduction of family farming. Abstract: In Argentina, decree law 22.278 / 80 governs juvenile criminal regulation. This decree is a remnant of the last dictatorship that was not modified despite numerous legislative initiatives that propose sanctioning systems or juvenile criminal regimes with standards of rights appropriate to the International Convention on the Rights of the Child (CIDN). The lack of adaptation places the country in flagrante infraction and this was manifested in successive reports of the Committee on the Rights of the child. Argentina was also observed by the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) for the issuance of sentences of life imprisonment for those who committed crimes while minors, a situation of particular seriousness, since most of the countries of the region adapted their laws and they set ceilings to deprivation of liberty. To the legislative failure, it follows a judicial punitivism in fact. The objective of the article is to describe the keys of punitivism through the follow-up of five paradigmatic failures dictated in recent years.

SOCCER referees , *CRONBACH'S alpha , *PSYCHOLOGICAL tests , *MORALE - Abstract
The objective of this research was to analyze the level of psychological maturity of the young referees of the Catalan Football Federation, showing the relationship between psychological maturity, age and gender. The sample consisted of 248 people aged between 15 and 18 years (M age = 17.14 and SD = 0.26). Methodology: Psychological Maturity Assessment Scale was applied (Morales, Camps, & Lorenzo, 2012). The questionnaire takes into account the dimension of individual adequacy, focusing on the evaluation of the autonomy and responsibility of the individual to function independently, controlling their own life and reducing their dependence on others. A Cronbach's Alpha was obtained in the application for an acceptable level of reliability at the total level of the Questionnaire (a = 0.755). From the analysis, 28.3% of the subjects are characterized by a high degree of psychological maturity, 65.7% by a medium degree of psychological maturity and only 6 % of the sample is characterized by a low degree of maturity. The medium average level of psychological maturity reached corresponds to similar studies carried out, indicating that soccer referees have some control over their own lives, but they do not have the capacity to assume the consequences of their actions. SUBSTANCE abuse prevention , *MENTAL health promotion , *PROTECTIVE factors , *SUBSTANCE abuse , *MEDICAL personnel , *PREVENTION , *DIRECT-to-consumer prescription drug advertising - Abstract
The consumption of psychoactive substances in Colombia has increased, both legal and illegal, especially in university students, if we review the national studies on consumption developed by the Colombian Drug Observatory (2016), we can conclude that not only does consumption increase, but the age of onset decreases, which also constitutes greater needs for care in specialized services for substance abuse. Research questions arise: what are the substances consumed by young university students in Colombia? What risk and protective factors are prioritized in university contexts for the prevention of substance abuse? The objectives of this research were: to identify which drugs are being consumed by young people and how the foundations of prevention programs are established. Methodologically, to carry out the present narrative review, a search was carried out in PubMed, Lilacs, Scielo, Dialnet databases. A chain search was also performed and other studies were located using bibliographic reference lists of the studies retrieved in the primary search. This is a narrative review was carried out under criteria of international standards. The critical evaluation of the articles consisted of the complete reading of the study, its evaluation and filling of the data collection instrument. Those studies published in duplicate or found in more than one database were considered only once. Once all the sources were integrated, it was decided to organize the evidence found by cities, consumption substances, risk perception, risk and protection factors. The results show an emphasis on the consumption of alcohol and tobacco. Marijuana as an illegal substance is the most consumed and considered the initiation channel for other substances. After these, relatively significant use of inhalants, cocaine and LSD is shown. It is evident that the consumption of psychoactive substances presents a behavior similar to that reported by epidemiological studies, the prevalence of consumption is higher for legal substances, as well as the age of onset is lower for these. In conclusion, the following stand out as risk factors: the life cycle and ease of access; and as a protective factor: satisfaction with the career and a positive vision of the future. With this panorama, the Ministry of National Education of Colombia (MEN) (2008) proposes as a strategy to reduce academic dropout, the creation of psychological support programs for students that are focused on the identification and monitoring of people at risk of consumption of psychoactive substances. It is necessary to build campaigns within the framework of social advertising in two scenarios: one, communications conceptualized by professionals towards public awareness training; and two, prevention campaigns to focus on areas and foci of influence, sectored and atomized to specific problems, specific substances and target adopting public. Likewise, the preventive practices that must be incorporated must aim at three areas: recognition of the negative consequences of drug abuse; clear, systematic and efficient communication; and to the promotion of sound decision-making by young people. The promotion of mental health in national health systems and professional health organizations need prevention campaigns with the participation of communities. Within the limitations of this study, this article is the product of the narrative review carried out for Colombia, as it is described geographically, only characterization of three of the regions is obtained and with a strong emphasis on studies of the capital city (Bogotá), the other two regions that are not described are areas with an active presence of illicit crops that generate a permanent relationship of the communities with the substances, and even with indigenous groups with consumption associated with their cultural identity, aspectsthat are not reflected by not have information on these areas. ALCOHOLISM , *YOUNG adults , *ALCOHOL drinking , *QUESTIONNAIRES , *ACQUISITION of data , *INTERNET surveys - Abstract
The present study aimed to analyze the correspondence between estimates of alcohol consumption obtained through retrospective measurements (Alcohol Consumption Questionnaire--ACQ--) and an Alcohol Consumption Diary. A sample of 134 young people (M age = 23.31 years, SD = 3.18) from Cordoba, Argentina, reported their alcohol consumption daily over a 60-day period. At the end of the first and second month, the participants completed the ACQ, which measures alcohol use retrospectively during the last 30 and 60 days. The participants also completed the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test and the Young Adult Alcohol Consequences Questionnaire. Data collection was done through online surveys, so the sample was non-probabilistic (i.e., a convenience sample). The correlation between estimates obtained through the Alcohol Consumption Diary and those obtained retrospectively (ACQ) was examined. Overall, these estimates were found to be strongly correlated. The correlations between estimates of quantity (= 0.75), usual frequency (= 0.64), and frequency of consumption until drunkenness (= 0.74) had a large effect size for both the first- and second-month data. The greatest correspondence was found between estimates of usual quantity (0.77). This study provides evidence on the validity of retrospective estimates of alcohol consumption while also emphasizing the importance of using indicators of usual and hazardous alcohol consumption in recent time periods. Introduction: The rejection of our own body image can lead to serious health problems such as anorexia or bulimia nervosa, especially among young population. Objective: To apply an edu-entertainment strategy to improve the body image of young people from the center of the Ecuadorian highlands. Methodology: A questionnaire about the degree of acceptance of body image (real BMI vs ideal BMI) was handed out to 788 university students. Half of them previously took part in a literary strategy consisting of writing in pairs a short story related to anorexia or bulimia nervosa. Results: The control group has a worse physical image of themselves compared to the experimental group. Participants evaluated the literary dynamics as quite entertaining and educational. There is no relation between the degree of acceptance of body image and identification with the story, but there is a relation between this acceptance and the number of close people with this type of eating disorders, as well as the assessment of their own diet and feeling comfortable with their own body. Conclusion: The dynamics used can be useful as part of health communication interventions in order to solve these problems. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

CARDIOVASCULAR diseases risk factors , *BLOOD pressure , *HEALTH of adults , *DIABETES , *OBESITY - Abstract
Background: Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are the main cause of morbidity and mortality in the adult population worldwide. Most studies on risk factors have focused on children and adults of mature age. Quite the opposite, there are few which specifically analyze young individuals. Objectives: The objectives of the study were to determine cardiovascular risk factors in young Mexican adults. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional, descriptive, and observational study was carried out on a healthy sample of 198 young Mexican university-level adults, aged from 18 to 25 years who, after completing a questionnaire, were evaluated on anthropometric and blood pressure parameters. A comparative analysis of the results was made according to sex and with findings from other studies. Results: In 46% of the subjects, an atherogenic diet was identified (predominant among males). About 59.1% of the individuals were classified as sedentary (mostly women). About 91.4% of the sample had two or more associated antecedents of CVD (and other associated conditions) in their family background, the most frequent being diabetes mellitus (71.2%), systemic hypertension (64.6%), and overweight or obesity (56.6%). In 25.8% of the individuals, overweight was observed (more frequent among women). In males, a higher proportion of alterations in blood pressure levels was described. Conclusions: The most frequently identified findings correspond to the group of modifiable minor risk factors, which could allow the development of preventive measures, inasmuch as these are subjects in which the modification of harmful behaviors and habits is achievable and timely. Objective: the objective of the present study was to determine if there are differences in terms of university adaptation in Peruvian first-year students of health sciences, with respect to sex and age-group (youth and adults). Materials and methods: the sample consisted of 759 students (74.8% women), mostly young students (92.2%), and were assessed with the Student Adaptation to College Questionnaire. Results: women have a better academic and institutional adaptation, although they exhibit less personal-emotional adaptation. No differences were found in social adaptation between men and women. Regarding age, young students present less personal-emotional and institutional adaptation than adult students, and no differences were found in relation to academic adaptation. Conclusions: sex and age-group are relevant aspects in the study of university adaptation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

SUICIDAL behavior in college students , *IDEA (Philosophy) , *REGULATION of body weight , *WEIGHT loss , *BODY image , *STEROIDS - Abstract
Objective: To identify the prevalence of suicidal ideation and attempted suicide among university students and its relationship with weight control practices. Method: This is a quantitative cross-sectional analytical study, with a sample for voluntary adherence. The analyzes were performed using the Stata 11 statistical package. Participants: College students of both sexes from five campuses (N = 7235) Federal University of Mato Grosso, Brazil. Results: The prevalence of suicidal ideation for the studied population was 25.9%. As for suicidal ideation, for the students, the chances of achieving the result were 68% higher. Body perception was also associated with attempted suicide. Conclusion: The prevalence of suicidal ideation found was considered high and, for suicide attempts, the findings corroborate the current literature. Suicide attempt was highest among young people between 16 and 25 years old and women. Regarding body perception, those who considered themselves overweight were more likely to have ideation and attempts, as well as those who used steroids and the induction of vomiting or use of laxatives as a way to lose weight. It is necessary to analyze the context in which university students live, recognizing the diverse influences in the establishment of consumption patterns, as well as patterns for the ideal body. The use of online social media has opened a line of inquiry focused on the phenomenon of addiction as a result of the intensive use of technologies and Internet, especially for vulnerable groups of the population such as youth and adolescents. This has led to the search for diagnostic instruments, where self-awareness scales have gained ground. This article sought to validate and adapt the social media addiction scale designed by Sahin to the Mexican context. The resulting instrument is a useful tool given the inexistence of its kind in the Mexican literature to gather information as regards the level of the people's addiction to online social media. This article analyzes the media representation of youth movements that fight against climate change, taking as a reference their main organizations: Fridays for Future and Extinction Rebellion. Methodology is based on a content analysis of 262 news pieces published during the peak period of the 2019 mobilizations in four Spanish online newspapers of reference: El País, Eldiario.es, ABC and La Vanguardia. The results show that the self-described progressive media offer a more favorable attitude towards the mobilizations, especially when addressing Fridays for Future, while the conservative ones move between a position of neutrality and opposition, less benevolent in the case of Extinction Rebellion. Although the newspapers offer a contextualized view, supported by the activists’ accounts, the representation of the protests tends to be somewhat sensationalist and more focused on the conflict than on its political agenda: in the case of Fridays for Future, they tend to an exotic personalization it in the figure of Greta Thunberg, whose proposals are rarely announced, while in the case of Extinction Rebellion some of their non-violent actions and performances are portrayed in an anecdotal way. The article shows the results of an investigation that has had for general objective to analyze the assessments of the young students of the telebachilleratos community, in particular of the received formation, as well as the impacts in their perspective in the future. Under a qualitative look, in particular with the application of a questionnaire of open questions to the students, and from the perspective of the new rurality and the accumulation of disadvantages, we access the evaluations of young people about their passage through this educational modality. First, they are characterized as young people who work and study, with work as the main activity in the rural context. Also stand out his valuations on the attendance to TBC, that is to say the proximity, possibility of continuing working, little expense, low enrollment, better attention and learnings. The impact on their future prospects is discussed, finding in the work one of the impossibilities of accessing higher education, and showing the disadvantaged conditions they face despite attending secondary education, placing, among others, the absence of youth sociability as one of the most outstanding aspects by the same actors. INTERREGIONALISM , *TRANSPORTATION , *SOCIAL mobility , *RESIDENTS , *QUALITATIVE research - Abstract
Recent years have seen the Israeli state investing considerable efforts in the alleviation of unprecedentedly high inter-regional inequalities. Improved transportation networks intended to better connect peripheral residents to centrally located opportunities have been at the heart of this policy known as 'periphery cancellation'. In this article, we study strategies deployed by young peripherals as they engage with the statist call for enhanced mobility between regions. Drawing on qualitative research conducted at 'A Center for the Young' in a small town in the predominantly rural Upper Galilee, we examine the extent to which young adults negotiate the recent state-led mobility turn. Taking a critical nobilities approach, we argue that statist aspirations of mobilizing peripherals to central hubs collide with socio-spatial constraints faced by many young residents. The official call for mobility is frequently met by a sense of spatial (im)mobility articulated by young agents who deploy instead alternative strategies to achieve socio-spatial mobility. Termed refusal, circulation, and refuge, these strategies draw on notions of peripheral stagnation, attributed to both state policies that have long marginalized the area as well as rooted conventions about the social and cultural inertia of peripheral residents. These strategies, we contend, widen existing inequalities between central haves and peripheral have nots while solidifying a sense of socio-spatial disenfranchisement among many of its young inhabitants. This article presents a research on the relationship between young students and the classroom and it has the objective of verifying if they appreciate what they live in class. This study was carried out in a high school, and the methodological procedures for data collection included focal grouping, interviews and questionnaires. The research on the area of youth, with a focus on Youth Sociology, was the main theoretical approach adopted. The results showed that, different from what common sense predicts, young students value school knowledge, and appreciate the classroom. However, they miss finding in this kind of knowledge a more inclusive, meaningful space where their cultures are respected. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Non-suicidal self-harm (NSA) is a growing phenomenon, according to many organisations such as UNICEF, and it affects young people to a large extent. Our aim is to find out what types of users and posts occur on Twitter and what the community's reactions are like. Is twitter a place to find support from other users and professionals or is twitter a place where self-harming behaviour is normalised. For a month we downloaded messages tagged with the hashtags #selfharm, #shtwt or #ouchietwt. We then retrieved likes, retweets and replies by grouping all messages into conversations. Finally, we retrieve information from the profiles of the users involved. For each tag we graphically represent the network structure formed by the interactions, being the users the nodes of the network and the interactions (likes, replies or retweets) the lines that join the nodes. It can be clearly seen how likes are the most frequent interaction, and which profiles generate the most responses and support. A manual review of the messages with the most support reveals that they are almost all messages with explicit photos of open injuries. The responses they elicit are likes, congratulations and messages of admiration. From the data obtained, we conclude that Twitter reinforces self-injurious behaviour, mainly by obtaining recognition from the community through likes. Interactions between self-injurers and health professionals on Twitter are minimal if not non-existent. Self-medication is a latent problem in our society. It is the own initiative or decision to take drugs, the consumption of drugs regardless of their origin, or medical prescription1,2. This has been increasing and has become a phenomenon that is highly studied by researchers. Thus, in pre-pandemic times, self-medication was a considerable problem in several countries, although with differences between countries in Europe and Latin America. So we have, in Spain3; The National Health System announced that in 2017 15.3% of people self-medicate. Also, in Mexico4; 86% consume medications without a doctor's prescription.

- Abstract
The sense of coherence is one of the protective factors that is becoming important in the prevention of drug use. This is why to identify the relationship between the sense of coherence and the consumption of alcohol in university students is relevant. The design was descriptive correlational with stratified probabilistic sampling, the final sample was 227 young people enrolled in a private university. This study found that women have a high low-risk consumption and a risk consumption (30.3% and 33.3%, respectively) compared to men who reported higher harmful consumption (59.1%). A negative and significant correlation was found between the sense of coherence and the alcohol consumption measured by the AUDIT (rs = -.197, p =.004), with the risk consumption (rs= -.206; p= .003) and harmful consumption in university students (rs= -.275; p=.001). Based on the above, it is concluded at higher sense of coherence, lower risk and harmful alcohol consumption. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
This text gives an account of the formation of a group of Indigenous University Students in the Metropolitan Area of Guadalajara (ZMG) who had the initiative to generate their own spaces and actions to reflect on the factors (migration, education and identity) that influence their personal and professional formation. An additional purpose was to outline actions to collectively address the problems that affect indigenous people in the context of the city. The systematization of their reflections is presented within the framework of three meetings organized in a self-managed way in 2014. Within the process, there were four main results: 1) Create a climate of trust that allows the free expression of ideas; 2) analyze common experiences that allow us to reach reflections that had been hardly achieved without this dialogue; 3) strengthen multiple identity as a young indigenous university student; and 4) open discussion opportunities that favor the agency capacity of indigenous university students as managers in the creation of their own opportunities and for other indigenous youth.
