Birdsong is one of the most complex signals in the animal world, as it may consist of many different sounds grouped according to certain rules. Singing acts as a distant signal, indicating, e.g., the species and gender identity of the singer. However, territorial songbirds also use singing as an interactive social signal during territorial disputes, as well while interacting with female. In these contexts, males vary the type and timing of their songs to convey graded information about their motivational state, and those variations can play a role in communication. In this review, we considered how male songbirds vary their singing in territorial context. To study such variations, researchers usually simulated territorial intrusion by broadcasting conspecific singing in territories, including singing modified in a manner necessary for the researcher. For comparison, we considered briefly how singing vary in intersexual context. The author of the paper focuses on the role of singing complexity in communication. Therefore, not all known context-dependent changes in singing are considered, but only those related to “complexity”: the diversity of song/sound types and the transitional patterns of different song/sound types in the course of singing. Our review has shown that males change their singing when they detect environmental changes such as the appearance of a female or a competitor as follows: 1) song rate increases, 2) syllable rate increases, 3) song-type switching rate increases, 4) song-type diversity increases (i.e., the observed repertoire size), and 5) longer and more complex songs are predominantly used. In some species, the song bout organization may also change, but the data is still scarce. Typically, one or more, but not all the aforementioned acoustic behaviors have been found in a given song-bird species. All these behaviors (tactics) come down to a single strategy, namely: maximizing the acoustic diversity over a short period of time (e.g., several minutes), that is, increasing the number of different song and/or note types. The proximate causes of how the increased acoustic diversity work in the territorial competition context might lie in a sensory, or perceptual bias of the receiver. Namely, habituation should occur to repeated presentation of the same song type faster than to presentation of different song types. Therefore, by vocalizing more diversely, males more effectively influence the signal recipient’s behavior.

New ways of working are being embraced by early childhood educators as they cope with demands from national reforms and changing communities. While reformers are pressing for social equity and improved outcomes for families and children, communities are diverging in terms of ethnicity, culture, language and socioeconomic status. As a consequence, early childhood educators are being challenged to expand their existing repertoire of practices in order to more effectively provide quality learning experiences for every child in their care. Practice enhancement and differentiated pedagogy are needed to address the additional needs of an increasing number of diverse learners. Community expectations are particularly focused on better educational supports for children in five cluster areas: • Culturally diverse and Indigenous backgrounds • ‘at risk’ because of socio-economic and abuse conditions • Communicative, emotional and behavioural disorders • Disabilities and learning difficulties and • Recognised gifts and talents This chapter focuses on some everyday ractices that can be used strategically to better support all children, including those with additional educational needs. All practices are well supported in the literature and are substantiated by either research findings or strong, socially determined values. They also very ‘doable’ and sustainable in today’s dynamic and multifaceted early childhood settings. Seven keys practices will be introduced, together with examples of how they can be applied to both enhance the learning of individual children and to strengthen a sense of group belonging. The practices are: • Having positive beliefs about all children • Learning about each child • Building meaningful relationships around the child • Creating supportive learning environments for the child • Providing engaging learning experiences for the child • Differentiating instruction for the child • Using child progress data to improve learning and teaching

In a recent column one television critic for Toronto's The Globe and Mail bemoans the loss of "aggressive interviewing in Canadian television." He points out that "At their best, good television interviewers...have an edge and persistence that makes some subjects quirm and sweat. For viewers there is always the chance something revealing or unexpected will occur and it is this element of surprise that is altogether too rare in the painfully polite and well-behaved studios of both the state broadcaster (CBC) and the private networks." In her discussion of political interviews on Israeli television, Blum-Kulka (1983) likens such interviews to a game between speakers which "when the game is well played by all interactants, is drama" (146). "The goal of the interviewers," she states, "is not necessarily to corner the politician but to get him to state his opinions and analysis of political issues, in a manner that is quotable" (146). Blum-Kulka points out that political interviews represent a distinct genre or register wherein speakers adhere to Grice's Cooperative Principle and engage in supportive or non-supportive moves largely determined by reinforcement or non-reinforcement of presuppositions represented in the questions posed by interviewers. In the data which I examine, which consist of 23 interviews done by four interviewers, two female, two male, three Canadian, one American, and which range from political to topical interviews on both television and radio, interviewers employ an extensive repertoire of speech acts which includes requests for information, assertions, requests for confirmation, rhetorical questions, socratic questions, clarifications, and comments or evaluations. As one would expect, requests for information are the principal speech act employed by interviewers. Moreover, most requests for information employed by interviewers are direct requests. Nonetheless, a significant percentage of requests for information are indirect. Interviewers, in effect, ask to ask. For example, interviewers can state directly "Tell me about downsizing and your views on it, because it's certainly the buzzword on the current economy," using an imperative, but they can also employ a range of indirect forms such as

A neuronal ensemble represents the concomitant activity of a specific group of neurons that could encompass a broad repertoire of brain functions such as motor, perceptual, memory or cognitive states. On the other hand, a memory engram portrays the physical manifestation of memory or the changes that enable learning and retrieval. Engram studies focused for many years on finding where memories are stored as in, which cells or brain regions represent a memory trace, and disregarded the investigation of how neuronal activity patterns give rise to such memories. Recent experiments suggest that the association and reactivation of specific neuronal groups could be the main mechanism underlying the brain's ability to remember past experiences and envision future actions. Thus, the growing consensus is that the interaction between neuronal ensembles could allow sequential activity patterns to become memories and recurrent memories to compose complex behaviors. The goal of this review is to propose how the neuronal ensemble framework could be translated and useful to understand memory processes.

Objective Vaccine hesitancy is a persistent barrier to vaccination uptake, and health professionals report interactions with such parents to be difficult. Using discourse analytic techniques, we examine the foundation of a therapeutic relationship: the display of empathy and attempts to build rapport, in consultations between immunisation specialists and vaccine reluctant parents. Methods Consultations between consenting clinicians and parents in two Specialist Immunisation Clinics in Australia were recorded. Twelve conversations between the clinicians and parents were analysed using interactional sociolinguistic (IS) discourse analytic methods. Results This paper takes a case study approach by citing two interactions that exemplify the interactional work of the consultants as they strive to engender mutual understanding and goodwill, noting examples of discursive choices that demonstrate empathy and the building of rapport. Conclusion Awareness of discourse strategies that interweave relational and clinical goals enable a more nuanced understanding of communication skills that support a guiding partnership in vaccine related decisions with parents. Practical implications Through highlighting the strategic interactional work that displays empathy and builds rapport, we can inform educational approaches and build a repertoire of communication choices that strengthen the communication skills of health professionals.

Children act prosocially already in their first years of life. Research has shown that this early prosociality is mostly motivated by sympathy for others, but that, over the course of development, children's prosocial behaviors become more varied, more selective, and more motivationally and cognitively complex. Here, we review recent evidence showing that starting at around age 5, children become gradually capable of strategically using prosocial acts as instrumental means to achieve ulterior goals such as to improve their reputation, to be chosen as social partners, to elicit reciprocity, and to navigate interpersonal obligations. Children's sympathy-based prosociality is thus being extended and reshaped into a behavioral repertoire that enables individuals to pursue and balance altruistic, mutualistic, and selfish motives.

There are many ways in which one can look at language. In the linguistics of the past hundred years or so, the study of languages has largely been informed by ideologies and concepts that result out of a very specific history and process of disciplining. Language, viewed through the particular looking glass of linguistics tends to turn into structure, governed by rules; a repertoire of forms which are used in specific contexts (known by skilled speakers) and which are largely transparent in sound and meaning. Noisy environment and opaque babble are usually not what linguists are trained to look at as 'language', and neither have we been trained to consider the deviant in language - a secret code, a special register - as that what is most powerful, most relevant and most important in language. Special styles, in other words, and noisy communication are largely considered marginal fields of interest, while language-as-standard, and 'every-day communicative practices' are usually taken as the adequate basis for most descriptive, typological and documentary work. Yet, epistemological discourse on language and communication outside this paradigm often tends to reveal that speakers see precisely the special styles, secret codes and spiritually heightened forms of language as the ones that deserve particular attention and expertise.

A prominent figure in national ballet, Oleg Danovski is one of the personalities of 20th century ballet. He gave the world a vast repertoire consisting of classical, neoclassical, modern ballets, Romanian ballets, and divertimentos for operas. Despite his success with classical ballet staging that would make him famous abroad, the choreographer also turned his attention to folklore, by addressing specific local themes. Thus, through this desire to study and stylize the folk dance, he brought an important contribution to the Romanian cultivated dance, from which the image of the Romanian character dance would stem. He was devoted to the idea of Romanian ballet theater and he advocated for original music for ballet, a national repertoire and the development of the Romanian ballet school. His Romanian creations are precious pages of the history of Romanian ballet that should not be forgotten, and that have enormously contributed to the enrichment of the original choreographic repertoire.

Under what conditions can voting turnout be transformed into a contentious repertoire? Based on the two case studies of the Umbrella Movement and the Anti-Extradition Law Amendment Bill movement in Hong Kong, I compare how movement actors used the electoral arena to leverage their causes. I propose a new relationship between street and electoral politics – short-term mobilization that turns voting turnout into a contentious repertoire. I posit three necessary scope conditions for movements to perceive this electoral strategy as viable: (1) protest cycle precedes and/or overlaps with the electoral period, (2) election perceived to be competitive, and (3) closing of political opportunity window for street mobilization. I further argue that the tactics movements pursue in the electoral arena is conditional on the relationship between movement actors and political elites, and regime type. In democratic regimes where parties and elections are institutionalized and less volatile, movements are on a more solid ground to invest in a long-term electoral strategy with existing parties. Contrarily, electoral competition in authoritarian regimes tends to skew toward incumbent's advantage. Movement activists and political elites may seek short-term strategic mobilizations focusing on the election at hand rather than a long-term plan. This argument illuminates the common ground between collective action and voting, and thus bridging the two sets of literature for further engagement, as recent movements such as the Black Lives Matter and the Sunrise Movement in the United States and Navalny's anti-Putin movement in Russia are mobilizing their supporters to take on the electoral arena.

The purpose of the article is to identify the role of Н. Aleksandrovych 's work in the choreographic culture of Ternopil region. Methodology. A set of methods was applied, including the analysis of the literature and source base, systematization of information, consideration of events on a chronological basis. Scientific novelty. For the first time, the creative activity of Halyna Stepanivna Aleksandrovych, a teacher-methodologist at the Terebovlya College of Culture and Arts, an excellent student of education in Ukraine, was comprehensively analyzed and her role in the choreographic culture of Ternopil region was clarified. Conclusions. Н. Alexandrovich is one of the leading specialists in the regional choreographic culture of Ternopil region, which for fifty years has been teaching, folklore, choreography, education and promotion. The basis of the repertoire of the folk dance ensemble "Dzherelo" created by her consists of works recorded by Н. Alexandrovich in the process of field research and skillfully processed for performance in the stage. In "Dzherelo" the teacher combines educational, upbringing and artistic functions: in addition to purely professional tasks (formation of a highly professional dancer and leader of the choreographic team) is the formation of students' choreographic worldview, the formation of national-patriotic values through joining, distinguished by the author's style, which are a significant contribution to the development of choreographic culture of the region and Ukraine as a whole.

This paper traces the recent turn to humour, irony and ambiguity embodied in the adaptation of memes into the repertoire of online propaganda of the militant neo-Nazi group the Nordic Resistance Movement; in a process, we dub the ‘memefication’ of white supremacism. Drawing on a combination of quantitative visual content analysis (VCA) and in-depth visual analysis focused on iconography and symbolism, we explore all memes (N = 634) created and circulated by the group around the 2018 general elections in the country. The analysis proceeds in two steps: First, we present the results of the VCA in which we identified five thematic categories of memes crafting white supremacy, xenophobia, homophobia, misogyny and anti-Semitic ideas onto esoteric and popular culture iconography then to map these across a matrix of content and form. We then proceed to the analysis of the cluster of memes coded as violent to explore the iconography and symbolism used to promote violence and death threats and render them banal. We draw on a range of recent scholarship on the entanglement of memes in the rise of the far- right and engage critical perspectives on the necropower of fascism to explore the interplay between ambiguous, playful and jokey imagery on the one hand and the murder fantasies and serious threat of white supremacist violence at the heart of neo- Nazi ideology, on the other.

Alevi ve Bektaşi inancına göre, manevi bir dünyada yaratanla bütünleşme hali olan ve aynı zamanda müziğin bir uygulama alanı olarak kullanıldığı cem törenleri, müziğin aktarımı ve devamlılığı bakımından önemli bir yere sahiptir. Bununla birlikte cemlerde icra edilen eserler müzikal anlamda Tasavvufi Türk Halk Müziğinin repertuvarını da oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmaya konu olan Otman Baba Süreği cemlerinde karşımıza çıkan repertuvar içerisinde de söz konusu repertuvar örneklerinden nefesler ve semahlar yer almaktadır. Ancak icra edilen semahlar üzerine yazılmış kaynakların sınırlı olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Bu çalışmada araştırmaya konu olan Otman Baba’dan kısaca bahsedilerek cemlerde bir ibadet uygulaması olan semahın, etimolojik anlamına ve konuyla ilgili çeşitli görüşlere yer verilecektir. Daha sonra çalışmanın asıl kısmını oluşturan Otman Baba Süreği cemlerinde dönülen Turnalar Semahı’nın bölümleri, icra ediliş biçimi, figüratif yapısı, kişi sayıları hakkında bilgiler verilip bu semahın yörede yaşayan dede/babalar, zâkirler ve insanlar için ne ifade ettiği aktarılacaktır. Son olarak eser müzikal yönden (ritmik, makamsal, melodik) incelenecektir. Çalışmada esas olarak, Otman Baba Süreğinde yer alan Turnalar Semahı’nın yerel müzik özelliklerinin ortaya konulması, dönülen semahın temel müzik özellikleri ile birlikte yerel özelliklerinin belirlenmesi ve daha sonra yapılacak olan benzer çalışmalara müzik analizi açısından katkı sağlayacağı düşünülmektedir. Neste ensaio, proponho uma reflexão sobre os limites da justiça a partir do conceito de “diferença”, considerando a perspectiva dos povos indígenas. Argumento que esses povos não estão no passado, mas oferecem futuros possíveis por meio de um repertório ético ainda amplamente ignorado de atitudes de responsabilidade e cuidado frente ao que é outro. Analiso alguns elementos do sistema alimentar entre os indígenas guaranis, cuja incompreensão por parte de uma abordagem da alimentação baseada em nutrientes permite elucidar dois modos articulados de operação da colonialidade, conforme ensinou Denise Ferreira da Silva: exclusão e oclusão. Concluo com a defesa de uma pactuação descolonizante pela participação de profissionais indígenas e negros(as) nos processos de decisão e gestão em saúde como meio de efetivar a universalidade no acesso ao cuidado e à proteção do Estado.

The challenges that the English as a Second Language (ESL) learners encounter during the reading process impede their reading comprehension. During the reading process, they need to pick up the information and stimulation around the text to comprehend it. Learners with a low vocabulary repertoire usually face difficulties to understand the lengthy text. Therefore, in this study, a mobile application labelled ‘Balloon Vocabulary’ was developed to help Ibanese tertiary learners to enjoy their reading and develop their vocabulary repertoire. This study employed a mixed-method approach that aimed to seek the perceptions of 125 tertiary level Iban learners on the usage of ‘Balloon Vocabulary’ towards improving their vocabulary repertoire. This study was also embarked to discover the learners’ performance after they completed both pre-test and post-test by using the application. Descriptive and inferential analyses were used to analyze the data. The qualitative data were analyzed and transcribed into themes. From the findings, the process of experiencing gamification and language games has led the learners to discover their skill related to vocabulary. Furthermore, their passion for learning was increased due to the involvement of technology in learning. This application is hoped to serve as a potential platform for learners to gain new experience dealing with new technological ways of learning English. Then, it will tread a new path for teachers as they will be able to attract learners’ attention and realign their focus to achieve desired content in learning.

In the effort to upgrade pupils' vocabulary learning experience, the potential of interactive educational games is increasingly explored as supplementary teaching and learning materials. While the eagerness to integrate mobile technology into English language education is noticeable, there is a lack of evidence on Malaysian English as Second Language (ESL) learners' views of the feasibility of online games in vocabulary learning. This study aims to determine the degree of improvement in pupils' vocabulary performance. The quantitative data was analysed using descriptive and dependent t-test analysis. The cross-sectional survey was adapted from the ACRS-V model. The questionnaire was distributed to Year 5 pupils from a national primary school in Negeri Sembilan who are using the syllabus of The English Language Curriculum for Primary Schools (KSSR). The findings show a moderate level of Satisfaction, Attention, Relevance, Confidence and Volition. In addition, a paired sample t-test indicates a significant improvement in the pupils’ vocabulary scores after using WordWall (WOW) as a vocabulary learning supplementary material. The effect size demonstrated is also larger regarding its effects in behavioural sciences. This study provides important insights as a guide for primary school English teachers in integrating online games as a learning tool for English language learning, especially in developing pupils’ English vocabulary repertoire.

A proposta deste artigo é enfocar a condição do Brasil como cultura tradutora, com um segmento de títulos traduzidos cuja robustez muito se deve às inúmeras retraduções de clássicos. São reescritas simultâneas ou sucessivas que derivam de motivações variadas — textuais, ideológicas, políticas, estéticas, epistemológicas — e recorrem a diferentes estratégias tradutórias para concretizar os objetivos de seus promotores e atender às expectativas do público a que se destinam. Para exemplificar a fecundidade dessa prática, será abordada, a partir de uma visão panorâmica, a trajetória em português do Brasil de um autor específico, presença certa nos cânones literários formados ao menos no Ocidente: William Shakespeare, cuja obra dramática é objeto de traduções, retraduções e adaptações para o português do Brasil desde o século XIX.

Flexible production and perception of vocalizations is linked to an impressive array of cognitive capacities including language acquisition by humans, song learning by birds, biosonar in bats, and vocal imitation by cetaceans. Here, we characterize a portion of the repertoire of one of the most impressive vocalizers in nature: the humpback whale. Qualitative and quantitative analyses of sounds (units) produced by humpback whales revealed that singers gradually morphed streams of units along multiple acoustic dimensions within songs, maintaining the continuity of spectral content across subjectively dissimilar unit "types." Singers consistently produced some unit forms more frequently and intensely than others, suggesting that units are functionally heterogeneous. The precision with which singing humpback whales continuously adjusted the acoustic characteristics of units shows that they possess exquisite vocal control mechanisms and vocal flexibility beyond what is seen in most animals other than humans. The gradual morphing of units within songs that we observed is inconsistent with past claims that humpback whales construct songs from a fixed repertoire of discrete unit types. These findings challenge the results of past studies based on fixed-unit classification methods and argue for the development of new metrics for characterizing the graded structure of units. The specific vocal variations that singers produced suggest that humpback whale songs are unlikely to provide detailed information about a singer's reproductive fitness, but can reveal the precise locations and movements of singers from long distances and may enhance the effectiveness of units as sonar signals.

We draw from the meaning-making practices on the margins, the communicative repertoires of the multilingual and multicultural students at two Southern African universities: the University of Zambia in Lusaka, Zambia; and the University of Malawi in Zomba, Malawi. As our locus, we are interested in the unique linguistic/semiotic coinages which constitute the students’ linguistic repertoires as multilingual innovations amenable to placemaking. In an attempt to do this, we purposefully unearth lexical innovations which we analyse within the broader framework of translanguaging. Thus, we show the emergence of (new) lexical items through the (re-)invention and disinvention of communicative resources, and the deployment of material artefacts of place as a basis for the creativity and innovation through repurposing of lexical items for new uses. Thus, we privilege students as active manipulators of their communicative practices by showing the semiotic/linguistic creativity and innovation inherent in their repertoires.

The De Geer family established themselves in Sweden as iron industrialists during the early seventeenth century, but they maintained close contact with the Netherlands. The family built up a prestigious library at Leufstabruk, in northern Uppland. The objects in the Leufsta Music Collection contained a significant amount of music in the form of printed sheet music and manuscripts, which were most likely gathered during the long lifetime of baron Charles De Geer (1720-1778). Compared to the works he collected in his youth in the Netherlands, the printed scores linked to Charles De Geer’s later period in Sweden show a change of taste in both repertoire and collecting behavior. This article deals with the bindings of the sheet music in the Leufsta collection, which give us clues of both De Geer’s acquisition and his approach to his music scores from their purchase to binding, labelling, cataloguing and practical use.

This article revisits the discussion whether The dialoges of creatures moralysed, the English translation of the Dialogus creaturarum, was printed and published by the early sixteenth-century Antwerp publishers-printers Marten de Keyser or Jan van Doesborch. This investigation presents a more complete picture of the publishing repertoire of Van Doesborch for the English market and increases our knowledge about the relations between publishers in Antwerp in the first half of the sixteenth century. After reconsidering the attributions to De Keyser and Van Doesborch I will bring up arguments in favour of their colleague Willem Vorsterman as publisher of The dialoges of creatures moralysed. By 1530/31 Vorsterman had access to part of the printing material of Jan van Doesborch as well as to a Bastarde letter type – probably cut by De Keyser – that is the same as the one used in The dialoges of creatures.

This paper presents an analysis of the trailers of a telefiction series originally produced in English and simultaneously distributed in Spanish in Latin America. Looking (aired between 2014 and 2016 by HBO) was a contemporary dramedy series, a hybrid genre typical of the quality TV promoted by HBO, whose plot dealt with the life of three gay friends living in San Francisco. The aesthetics of the series reveals the auteur cinematic work of Andrew Haigh, a film director who applied his visual narrative repertoire to Looking. Using the multimodal analysis model proposed by Kaindl (2020) and the structure of communicative modes proposed by Chaume (2004) and Stöckl (2004), the translation and Latin American adaptation of two trailers of the series are studied to understand whether the semiotic integration of the paratexts portraits or intensifies the narrative aspects of the hybrid genre series.

This text is an introduction to the thematic block of the journal Social Sciences and Humanities Studies on the literary and theatrical aspects of Bosnian drama and theater. It recalls the presence of theatrical and sub-theatrical phenomena on the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina in antiquity, and then lists the specifics of Bosnian culture in the Middle Ages, from which arises a specific relationship to drama and theater. The attitude of Islamic culture towards theater and drama significantly influenced the status that drama has even after the departure of the Ottoman Empire from Bosnia and Herzegovina. With the arrival of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, there are significant differences concerning European civic theater. Through the most important conclusions from the individual texts that make up this block, the status that Bosnian drama has in our theatrical culture is pointed out.

LLas imágenes de tipos populares se erigieron como repertorios angulares en la conformación de los imaginarios de nación en América Latina, de ahí la importancia de su estudio para comprender la cultura visual decimonónica de territorios como Chile y Perú. Estas representaciones se desarrollaron fundamentalmente a partir de medios manuales (pintura y estampa), y en ellas se debaten cuestiones de gusto, asociadas a una estética de lo pintoresco, y se evidencian las tensiones y convergencias de varias funciones y demandas de la imagen modélica. Sin embargo, durante la segunda parte del siglo XIX, esta tradición se enfrentará al advenimiento del medio fotográfico. Las repercusiones y transformaciones que esto implicó serán discutidas en el presente artículo, considerando el componente documental e informativo que la fotografía habría potenciado en un repertorio constituido particularmente, aunque no exclusivamente, en una estética de lo pintoresco. De esta manera, el ensayo propone una lectura historiográfica que analiza la constitución de esta tradición mediante casos particulares referidos al contexto chileno y peruano, para luego pensar su reformulación tras la incursión del aparato fotográfico.

The artistic doctoral project of soprano Kajsa Dahlbäck is in two parts. The theme of the concert series is “The female soprano within the baroque repertoire 1600–1750” and that of the thesis is “Singing-in-the-world – a phenomenological study on the singer’s inner work”. In her concerts, Dahlbäck has performed music from different parts of Europe and particularly from communities with female singers, such as for instance Italian nun convents, Vivaldi’s time at La Pietà in Venice and the court of Swedish Queen Christina in Stockholm and Rome. In her thesis, Dahlbäck shares insights from her experience as a singer specializing in early music as well as the genre’s generally intimate concert and rehearsal atmosphere. Experience texts from rehearsals and concerts have been mirrored against phenomenological theories. The practice-based triadic concept of body–breath– mind is linked to the theoretical singing-in-the-world. Body–breath–mind is the foundation for singing-in-the-world, a synthesis of the phenomenological tradition of Heidegger’s being- in-the-world (in-der-Welt-sein), Merleau-Ponty’s being toward-the-world (suis à) and in recent years Škof and Berndtson’s breathing-in-the-world.

O presente artigo apresenta o resultado de uma pesquisa do tipo “estado da arte” sobre a História da Educação Musical nos Anais dos Congressos Nacionais e Encontros Anuais da Associação Brasileira de Educação Musical (ABEM). O trabalho baseou-se principalmente nos referenciais teóricos de Norma Ferreira (2002) e Patrícia Oliveira (2018) sobre o estado do conhecimento, e selecionou 25 comunicações por meio da leitura de títulos, resumos e pesquisa das palavras chaves. As comunicações foram organizadas por meio de tabela, contendo o ano de publicação, autoria, título e instituição, agrupados por eixos temáticos (grupos) dispostos em gráficos, contendo o ano e a quantidade de trabalho. Os resultados tomam a História da Educação como um campo de produção de conhecimento a ser explorado, observando aspectos fornecidos pelas temáticas historiográficas protagonizadas, a saber: estudos autobiográficos; ideologias e repertório didático; instituições educativas.

Ernest Bloch compôs em 1923 a obra “Baal Shem: Three Pictures of Chassidic Life”, constituída por três movimentos representativos do imaginário hassídico, respetivamente “Vidui”, “Nigun” e “Simchas Torah”. O segundo movimento tornou-se uma peça amplamente conhecida e incorporada ao repertório de violinistas. Bloch associa o nigun, interpretado pela voz humana, ao violino, colocando-o no lugar do Cantor ou Rabino. O violino incorpora o personagem orante que caracteriza o nigun, inclusive no gestual, utilizando a música como um veículo da materialidade para a transcendência (devekut). Através da análise expressiva, o presente ensaio pretende evidenciar as similaridades entre a composição “Nigun” e o género musical homónimo, ressaltando o gesto musical e a liberdade interpretativa, e despertar algumas reflexões sobre o tema, sem a pretensão de apresentar respostas definitivas ou conclusivas.

Este artigo buscou analisar relatos de acadêmicos de diferentes cursos de graduação e pós-graduação de uma Universidade do Vale do Itajaí/SC que participaram do Programa de Intercâmbio Internacional do Governo Federal brasileiro, Ciências sem Fronteiras (CsF). Trata-se de uma pesquisa qualitativa do tipo descritivo-interpretativista, caracterizada como um estudo de caso. Tem-se como instrumento de coleta de dados relatos escritos de oito acadêmicos de diferentes cursos da instituição que participaram do CsF entre 2012 e 2017. Os resultados apontaram que, se por um lado os discursos dos acadêmicos pautam-se em uma formação pessoal e profissional qualificada para o mercado de trabalho, assim como a ampliação do repertório linguístico e cultural; por outro lado, ainda se evidenciam desigualdades sociais, culturais, econômicas, geográficas pelo acesso ainda restrito pelas/das classes populares ao CsF. Considera-se que tal estudo empreende reflexões para uma melhor compreensão sobre a internacionalização no currículo na Educação Superior.

Este artigo apresenta uma compreensão de práticas sociais de leitura e oralidade em inglês desenvolvidas a partir da obra literária “The Wizard of Oz” na voz de estudantes do 5º ano do Ensino Fundamental de uma Escola Pública Municipal localizada em Blumenau/SC. Tal abordagem qualitativa assenta-se na Teoria Histórico-Cultural e nos Estudos dos Letramentos. Como instrumento de geração de dados foram utilizados um recorte de desenhos, produzidos coletivamente por um total de 16 estudantes matriculados em uma turma do 5º ano do Ensino Fundamental, com idades entre 9 e 10 anos A análise dos dados aponta para a constatação de que as práticas sociais de leitura e de oralidade desses sujeitos proporcionaram não apenas a apropriação de conhecimentos científicos desenvolvidos a partir desta sequência didática envolvendo música, filme e a obra “The Wizard of Oz”, mas também a ampliação do repertório cultural e linguístico dos estudantes no âmbito da interação com a língua inglesa. Considera-se, assim, importante que as aulas de línguas na Educação Básica tenham foco nos conceitos linguísticos para a interação em diversas práticas em distintas esferas sociais em que estes sujeitos circulam, assim como estejam orientados para a reflexão sobre o repertório cultural e a dimensão intercultural dos diferentes usos da linguagem.

Coworking is a worldwide trend that is growing in Brazil. More than a workplace, a collaborative, creative and innovative environment favors networking. However, for the person to enjoy these possibilities, it is necessary to have some social skills developed and applied. In this paper, we sought to understand how interpersonal relationships occur in coworking, what the quality of these relationships is like, and whether they depend on having a repertoire of previously developed social skills or whether coworking can be a place for developing social skills. For this, ten semi-structured interviews were conducted with professionals from different areas working in a coworking, personally inviting each one of them. These interviews with them were explored through Bardin's Content Analysis (1977) under the categories of: (1) social skills, (2) unassertive / aggressive behaviors, (3) coworking view, and (4) others. A review is made of the main characteristics of coworking, which is pointed as a place that favors the feeling of community, as well as an understanding of the importance of social skills. As a result, it was found that both the prior development of social skills to integrate with coworking and the willingness of the professional to develop their social skills in coexistence with others who share the same space is necessary. This article uses an interdisciplinary approach to analyze textual sources from nomadic civilization. Linguistic analysis has been increasingly used due to the emergence of a huge array of autochthonous and authentic written sources. It is impossible to extract the necessary historical information from those sources without using a new research method. This study aims to apply discourse analysis to medieval textual sources called edicts published in 1400–1635 by the leaders of the Central Asian states. This approach is expected to enable a detailed study of the structure of edicts, as well as speech patterns and terms used in the text. The results of the study revealed the structure of the examined edicts, as well as socio-cultural, economic, and communicative features of the nomadic society. First, the discourse repertoire of Edicts from Sygnak is rather unique, as evidenced by comparative analysis of patents from the cities of Sygnak, Sayram and Turkestan located in the Syr Darya basin. Second, edicts in this study reflect the result of the mutual influence of sedentary and mobile lifeways. Third, the arguments behind certain speech patterns used in the examined edicts emerged under the influence of Turkic traditions.

In the Kazakh educational process today, in addition to the generally recognized arrangements and treatments of world music classics and original works for viola, national music adapted for viola is actively involved. There are several collections of works for viola edited, arranged and processed by such authors as A.Nurbayeva, E.Liberchuk, Ya.Fudimana, N.Sagimbayeva, D.Makhmud. The musical literature presented in these collections is widely used at different levels of education – by students of music schools, colleges and even universities of the republic, which is mainly due to the limited repertoire. The article deals with the transcription of N.Karimov's «Kuy» for violin and chamber orchestra by M. Sagatov as one of the first experiments in interpreting the sound of dombra kuy in viola music.

O vigente artigo apresenta e discute resultados de uma intervenção pedagógica realizada por meio do Programa de Residência Pedagógica vinculado ao Curso de Licenciatura em Geografia da Universidade Federal de Pernambuco (UFPE), numa série do 7º ano do Ensino Fundamental da Escola Municipal São Cristóvão. Apoiando-se na Lei 10.639, que estabelece o 20 de novembro como o Dia Nacional da Consciência Negra e a obrigatoriedade do ensino da história e cultura Africana e Afro-brasileira, a intervenção teve como objetivo principal abordar a temática da Cultura Afro-brasileira e a Consciência Negra de forma lúdica, a fim de desmistificar e fortalecer o repertório sociocultural dos estudantes. Utilizando o lúdico como elemento facilitador no ensino da Geografia e dessa temática transversal, no contexto das aulas remotas devido a pandemia, buscou-se engajar os estudantes a aprender de forma ativa. Nesse cenário, empregou-se recursos visuais em slides, no primeiro momento, de forma expositiva e dialogada. E em seguida, utilizou-se a plataforma onlineWordwall, que viabilizou a integração entre conteúdos e a interatividade, a partir de um jogo, entre os sujeitos envolvidos.

The article elucidates the issue of phytonomes revealed in the poetic collection “Litoral” by Victor Lazaruk and analyzes the semantic and stylistic potential of these lexemes with an emphasis on the functional and stylistic features of floral names in terms of the poetic speech units. The phytonomes that occur in the poetic collection of Victor Lazaruk’s “Litoral” form a rich in repertoire thematic group of vocabulary. The degree of signifiers' representation in it is various. Fixed in the collection florolexemes are divided into several lexical and semantic subgroups: dendro-lexemes (trees, shrubs/bushes), names of herbaceous plants, and crops. The total number of the recorded units is 83 (33 names of woody plants, 44 names of herbaceous plants, 6 names of crops). The functional activity of the lexical-semantic group of florolexemes can be illustrated by the following quantitative indicators: total – 242 word usage; dendro-lexemes – 142 word usage; names of herbaceous plants – 88 word usage; crops – 12 word usage. Dendro-lexemes birch (29 fixations) and oak (20 fixations) demonstrate the highest frequency level. The case study material testifies to the productivity of flora-lexemes in the function of style-semes and expressemes with a wide emotional and evaluative potential. The figurative meaning of phyto-names is always a matter of the author’s individual comprehension. The study has revealed that most of these floral names are distinguished by positive-emotional and minor coloration. In numerous landscape descriptions, flora-lexemes are organically woven into the linguistic and poetic structure of the text. They create a distinct local-national coloring of the image, characterize the seasonal changes of nature, symbolize the attributes of space, embody the unity of generations, glorifying the glorious past and giving faith in a bright future.

Complex tasks often cannot be addressed with expertise, but instead by assembling a diverse cognitive repertoire in teams. In such cases, engaging diversity may enhance performance. Yet various behavioral and social limits often deter organizations from recognizing or integrating valuable diversity. I argue that random selection is an undervalued tool for capturing the diversity bonus because it helps address: (1) the paradox of merit, by avoiding fruitless deliberation; (2) biased reasoning, by deciding on the basis of no reason; and (3) learning traps, by discovering self-confirming false beliefs. More generally, incorporating random selection in organizational design can generate a less-is-more effect: deciding by blind luck means exercising less control over outcomes but achieving more by saving time and resources, as well as detecting and sanitizing biased reasons.

When music educators discuss repertoire, they often discuss what pieces to perform and when in the year to perform them. In this article, I ask, “ Who should choose the music for ensemble study, and how should it be chosen?” I share a rationale for why music educators might include students in ensemble repertoire selection and several ways they might open the repertoire so their students can contribute to the process. Based on my interest in how teacher–student dialogue can occur in this process, I draw from conversations I had with six orchestra teachers and twenty-seven of their students. The approaches presented here come from my interviews with these six teachers, from others with whom I have since collaborated, and from my own experience as an educator. Music educators may find these approaches useful for discussion, study, and implementation of more inclusive practice.

In this article, I propose some ways that music educators might become anti-racist. I explore the ways that Whiteness manifests in music education and subsequently examine actions we might take to resist this Whiteness. Ultimately, I suggest anti-racism as a way forward for music education. I delineate some of the ways that Whiteness operates in music education, not to discourage educators but rather to encourage us to notice the way Whiteness pervades our field.

O presente trabalho objetiva analisar as estratégias utilizadas por graduandos em Letras da Universidade Federal do Piauí em seus percursos de navegação em ambiente de busca online para realizar tarefas acadêmicas. Os resultados aqui apresentados são fruto de pesquisa cuja coleta de dados de 20 informantes (10 cursando o 6º período e 10 cursando o 9º período) foi realizada a partir de três etapas: aplicação de questionário pré-leitura; realização de tarefas de navegação, leitura e produção de texto; e aplicação de questionário pós-tarefa. Os caminhos utilizados pelos informantes observados na execução das tarefas da segunda etapa, analisados em conjunto com os dados da primeira e da terceira etapas evidenciam que não há como garantir que habilidades relacionadas ao letramento digital ou ao letramento acadêmico, tratados separadamente, são mais funcionais para que os alunos consigam atender aos seus objetivos de leitura. Em vez disso, numa perspectiva integrada e situada, ficou evidenciado que os dois tipos de letramento são mobilizados pelos alunos de maneira estratégica, a depender do seu repertório de habilidades e dos caminhos de navegação que escolhem percorrer.

The concept of "private theater" is primarily related to its economic status. Private theater retains the model of independent theatrical business that has characterized the life of French theater - even before the significant step in the development of state support for the theatrical arts by the French authorities in the second half of the twentieth century. The Boulevard Theater is a theater that plays common household performances on modern subjects in such genre as comedy, drama, vaudeville and farce. The name of the boulevard theaters comes from the theaters built in the XVII-XVIII centuries on the Boulevard Temple in Paris. The first boulevard theater was opened in 1759 by Jean-Baptiste Nicole. The theater was originally named after Nicole himself, and the owner himself gave performances of puppets and acted as an actor. From 1772 the theater became known as the "Royal", and after the revolution of 1792 it was renamed Goethe, under which it still exists. After the Freedom of Theater Act of 1791, boulevard theaters were given the opportunity to add plays by Cornell, Moliere, and Racine to the repertoire. The Theâtre Varietes is a private boulevard theater that is situated at boulevard Montmartre, 2nd arrondissement, in Paris. It was declared a monument historique in 1975. It owes its creation to the theater director Mademoiselle Montansier (Marguerite Brunet). Imprisoned for debt in 1803 and frowned upon by the government, a decree of 1806 ordered her company to leave the Theâtre du Palais-Royal which then bore the name of "Varietes". The decree's aim was to move out Montansier's troupe to make room for the company from the neighboring Theâtre-Francais, which had stayed empty even as the Varietes-Montansier had enjoyed immense public favor. Strongly unhappy about having to leave the theater by 1 January 1807, the 77-year-old Montansier gained an audience with Napoleon himself and received his help and protection. The theater is headed by theater manager Jean-Manuel Bazhen, the deputy director is Lenec Lebrun. In the structure of the theater there is a department of ticket management, which is in charge of the box office, administrative department (administrators, accountant, security and safety), artistic and production (technical) part headed by the production manager, as well as the press and advertising department. Affordable ticket prices, a variety of productions and a constantly updated repertoire are the main components of the success of the Theâtre Varietes. The experience of state support of French theatrical art is indicative for Ukraine. A significant part of the financing of both state and non-state theaters is provided by the state. The state finances various forms of ownership, namely public, private, municipal, equity and others through its regional cultural centers, which operate in each department. Ukrainian private theater has the potential for development, and the experience of organizational and creative activities of private theaters in Paris will turn out well for Ukraine.

O texto apresenta a atuação filosófica de Ailton Krenak (1953– ) a partir da ideia de sujeito coletivo ou pessoa coletiva. Para isso, questiona-se uma espécie de senso comum ocidental que considera o labor filosófico como algo que se realiza individualmente; e as noções de ancestralidade, memória e tradição vêm à baila para procurar elucidar a forma com que o autor em tela propõe outra lida com o repertório intelectual e cultural de diversos temas da Filosofia. A partir disso, percorre-se uma série de seus textos, a fim de indicar as relações entre sua memória ancestral e alguns temas que aparecem em sua produção filosófica.

The article looks at the social roles of the sibling and the sibling-in-law among older adults and how these roles are interconnected. It is based on an analysis of data collected in Czechia in 2017-2019 from 91 qualitative interviews and three focus groups with participants aged 50+. The concept of social roles used here considers a plurality of role repertoires, which actors can choose from, combine, and variously emphasise. Focusing on the social roles of the sibling and the sibling-in-law shows how each of these roles is specific. Both of these roles have a repertoire of targeted support for sibling/ kin cohesiveness and a repertoire of common solidarity and sociability. The sibling's role also includes repertoires of intimate closeness and emergency assistance. Both roles can be performed as a minimalist repertoire. The repertoire of the sibling-in-law role is defined in relation to the role of the sibling/the life partner; the minimum expectation of a sibling is to not avoid contact with others and to show an interest in his/her sibling. Both roles are based on mutual autonomy and at the same time a willingness to maintain the sibling / kin relationship. How the two roles interfere and interact with each other is clear and provides insight into other dimensions of both roles. While it is possible to remain with the minimalist repertoire, it can generally be said that the role of a sibling and the role of a sibling-in-law acquire increasing importance as people grow older.

Background and Study Aim: The purpose of this article is to describe and analyze students' disruptive behavior and teacher trainee responses before and after a “Body Language and to Speak in Public” training module for school teachers at the end of initial training physical education teachers (PET). Material and Methods: Delayed video scope analysis was conducted using the "Disciplinary Incidents Observation System (DIOS)" of “Brunelle J.” (1996) [7]. Results: The data collected, it can be deduced that the courses directed by trainee students during work readiness internships show a high degree of disruption, since there is a rate of 1.3 and 1.01 DB per minute. Conclusions: The frequency of onset of disruptive behaviors (DB1 and DB2) is slightly lower in sessions facilitated by trainees who have been trained in "Body language and public speaking". Similarly, at the level of disruptive behaviors (DB3), the trainees who underwent the training realized a greater decrease in the frequency of appearance of these behaviors. Faced with these disruptive behaviors, the trainees who attended the training were slightly more interactive in their reactions during the sessions. The impact that this study could have on the initial training of physical education teachers (PET). The results of our studies illustrate the reality of the practice of future teachers during the internship preparation to professional life. Indeed, they constitute a repertoire to perceive the different disruptive behaviors of students and the reactions of trainee students to these behaviors. By way of this presentation, our work can certainly be used as part of the initial training of PET and in formalizing the professional skills repository., Contexte et objectif de l'étude: Le but de cet article est de décrire et d'analyser le comportement perturbateur des élèves et les réponses des enseignants stagiaires avant et après un module de formation «Langage corporel et parler en public» destiné aux enseignants à la fin de la formation initiale des enseignants d'éducation physique (ANIMAUX). Matériel et méthodes: L'analyse de la vidéo différée a été réalisée à l'aide du "Disciplinary Incidents Observation System (DIOS)" de "Brunelle J." (1996) [7]. Résultats: Les données recueillies, on peut en déduire que les cours dirigés par les étudiants stagiaires lors des stages de préparation au travail montrent un degré élevé de perturbation, puisqu'il y a un taux de 1,3 et 1,01 DB par minute. Conclusions: La fréquence d'apparition de comportements perturbateurs (DB1 et DB2) est légèrement plus faible dans les séances animées par des stagiaires formés au «langage corporel et à la prise de parole en public». De même, au niveau des comportements perturbateurs (DB3), les stagiaires ayant suivi la formation ont réalisé une plus grande diminution de la fréquence d'apparition de ces comportements. Face à ces comportements perturbateurs, les stagiaires qui ont assisté à la formation ont été un peu plus interactifs dans leurs réactions lors des séances. L'impact que cette étude pourrait avoir sur la formation initiale des professeurs d'éducation physique (PET). Les résultats de nos études illustrent la réalité de la pratique des futurs enseignants lors du stage de préparation à la vie professionnelle. En effet, ils constituent un répertoire pour percevoir les différents comportements perturbateurs des élèves et les réactions des élèves stagiaires à ces comportements. A travers cette présentation, nos travaux peuvent certainement être utilisés dans le cadre de la formation initiale du PET et de la formalisation du référentiel de compétences professionnelles.

The study relevance is due to the anniversary of the writer (200th anniversary of his birth), the demand for his works among the residents of the Siberian-Far-Eastern region in the pre-revolutionary period, the importance of studying library funds to reconstruct the potential reading circle of the region's population. Due to the lack of comprehensive studies of library collections of pre-revolutionary libraries in Siberia and the Far East, this article first considers the presence of works by A. F. Pisemsky in the libraries of the region in the late XIX - early XX centuries. The article objective is to identify the writer’s works in the libraries of the Siberian-Far Eastern region during this period. Tasks are to: 1) reconstruct the repertoire of the works by A. F. Pisemsky in the libraries of the region in the pre-revolutionary period; 2) calculate quantitative indicators of their availability; 3) identify lifetime editions of the writer in library collections. The author applies the comparative analysis, statistical, chronological, source-based methods. Information is given from 34 catalogs of pre-revolutionary libraries of Siberia. They reflect the funds of 24 libraries located in 4 provincial, 5 regional and 4 county centers of the region. The libraries of municipal public and local commercial and public meetings prevail among them, chosen as the most open and, thereby, most accessible for readers. For the first time, quantitative indicators of the presence of the works of A. F. Pisemsky in Siberian and Far Eastern libraries in the pre-revolutionary period were calculated and analyzed. The study results show that many of them had works by the writer during the period under review. Their funds included most of the famous works of this author. The most frequently found publications have been identified, as well as publishers whose products were presented in the libraries of the region. The revealed data allow reconstructing partly library collections and the potential repertoire of reading of Siberian and Far Eastern residents in the late XIX – early XX centuries, clarifying and supplying the picture of library business in the region in the pre-revolutionary period.

Cross-cutting exposure (i.e., the exposure to dissonant views) is a central component of political discussion among citizens. Although political discussion is a crucial form of political engagement and a well-known source of dissonance, little is known about the impact of cross-cuttingness (vs. like-mindedness; CCLM) elicited by media news on political discussion. In the present pre-registered online experiment (N = 725), news stories were manipulated to induce CCLM and investigate its positive effect on political discussion via a specific path: deliberative thinking and the repertoire of arguments. Although no total effect of CCLM on participating in a political discussion (operationalized as discussion intent) was found, a structural equation model showed specific indirect positive effects via our hypothesized paths. Our study therefore lends support to the positive democratic implication of cross-cutting exposure. Data and material are publicly available via https://osf.io/cpnzy/.

This paper aims to understand how young Muslims in the super-diverse city of Antwerp negotiate the tensions between their religious identification and the broader cultural framework of individualism. Young Muslims in Antwerp face the challenge to present themselves as autonomous, while maintaining their religious identification. Based on 26 interviews with Muslim students in two secondary schools, we describe how presenting a dignified self to both non-Muslim and Muslim audiences requires a delicate balancing act. Drawing conceptually from cultural sociology, we explore how our respondents present themselves towards various audiences by selectively employing elements from the cultural repertoire of ‘religious individualism’. In our analysis, we examine four ways in which respondents employ this repertoire to rework the potential tensions and present themselves as agentive within their religious framework. We also discuss how negotiating a contested identity requires more taxing boundary work for girls, and how they challenge gender norms without denying their religious identification. Overall, our analysis demonstrates how young Muslims in a West European context engage in complex boundary work and creatively draw on the cultural repertoire of religious individualism to negotiate their multiple identifications.

Summary Multilingual environments and migration have led to an increasing number of multilingual students, and consequently, to a need to take the varying linguistic repertoire of students into account in education. The aim of the present study is to explore Linguistically Sensitive Teaching (LST) as a possible linguistically inclusive approach and to examine how LST is perceived by pre-service primary teachers in the multilingual context of the Basque Autonomous Community (BAC), where the majority language, Spanish; the minority language, Basque; and the foreign language, English are included in the curriculum, all while some students might have other additional home languages that are not part of the curriculum. The methodological approach is a qualitative research study, in which data have been collected among a group of pre-service primary teachers from the BAC through written reflections, focus groups and observations. The results show the perceptions of the pre-service teachers on education policies in relation to linguistically sensitive teaching practices, good practices identified during their school placements, possibilities to promote Linguistically Sensitive Teaching in the classroom, the role of the minority language Basque in LST, and the threats, challenges and opportunities perceived in LST. It is concluded that despite some basic notions of LST, the lack of in-depth knowledge of pre-service teachers is visible, advocating for the need to include formation on LST in Initial Teacher Training.
