The selectivity control of Pd nanoparticles (NPs) in the direct CO esterification with methyl nitrite toward dimethyl oxalate (DMO) or dimethyl carbonate (DMC) remains a grand challenge. Herein, Pd NPs are incorporated into isoreticular metal–organic frameworks (MOFs), namely UiO‐66‐X (X=‐H, ‐NO2, ‐NH2), affording Pd@UiO‐66‐X, which unexpectedly exhibit high selectivity (up to 99 %) to DMC and regulated activity in the direct CO esterification. In sharp contrast, the Pd NPs supported on the MOF, yielding Pd/UiO‐66, displays high selectivity (89 %) to DMO as always reported with Pd NPs. Both experimental and DFT calculation results prove that the Pd location relative to UiO‐66 gives rise to discriminated microenvironment of different amounts of interface between Zr‐oxo clusters and Pd NPs in Pd@UiO‐66 and Pd/UiO‐66, resulting in their distinctly different selectivity. The synergy of unusual X-aggregation induced luminescent chromophores and heavy Pb(II) ions has facilitated excellent X-ray scintillation of two structurally similar Pb-SMOFs, which are heat-resistant due to solvent-free lattices. Solid-state X-ray scintillators are widely applied in medical imaging and space exploration. However, it is still a great challenge to probe into the intrinsic nature of scintillating behaviour due to the ambiguous structure–function relationship. Herein, four structure-defined X-ray scintillating Pb(ii)-based metal–organic frameworks (SMOFs) were successfully obtained under solvothermal conditions, [Pb(1,4-ndc)(DMF)]n (SMOF-1), [Pb(1,4-ndc)(DMA)]n (SMOF-2), [Pb2(2,6-ndc)2(H2O)]n·nDMF (SMOF-3) and [Pb4(2,6-ndc)3Cl2]n (SMOF-4), where 1,4-H2ndc = 1,4-naphthalene dicarboxylate, 2,6-H2ndc = 2,6-naphthalene dicarboxylate, DMF = N,N-dimethylformamide, and DMA = N,N-dimethylacetamide. SMOFs 1–4 show scintillating signals under X-rays triggered by a highly purified tungsten target. Compared with SMOFs 1–3, SMOF-4 exhibits excellent scintillating performance owing to its solvent-free and denser structure, which favours more efficient conversion ability of X-rays to visible light. X-ray stimulated luminescence (XSL) spectra present multiple emission peaks, which is further confirmed by wavelength-dependent luminescence spectra under UV-Vis light, and density of state and DFT calculations. The synergistic effects of heavy metal Pb(ii) centres as effective X-ray absorbers and organic ligands as luminescent motifs endow these Pb(ii)-based MOFs with application prospects in X-ray detection. Abstract: Recently, the emergence of photoactive metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) has given great prospects for their applications as photocatalytic materials in visible‐light‐driven hydrogen evolution. Herein, a highly photoactive visible‐light‐driven material for H2 evolution was prepared by introducing methylthio terephthalate into a MOF lattice via solvent‐assisted ligand‐exchange method. Accordingly, a first methylthio‐functionalized porous MOF decorated with Pt co‐catalyst for efficient photocatalytic H2 evolution was achieved, which exhibited a high quantum yield (8.90 %) at 420 nm by use sacrificial triethanolamine. This hybrid material exhibited perfect H2 production rate as high as 3814.0 μmol g−1 h−1, which even is one order of magnitude higher than that of the state‐of‐the‐art Pt/MOF photocatalyst derived from aminoterephthalate. A dual temperature- and light-responsive C2H2/C2H4 separation switch in a diarylethene metal-organic framework (MOF) is presented. At 195 K and 100 kPa this MOF shows ultrahigh C2H2/C2H4 selectivity of 47.1, which is almost 21.4 times larger than the corresponding value of 2.2 at 293 K and 100 kPa, or 15.7 times larger than the value of 3.0 for the material under UV at 195 K and 100 kPa. The origin of this unique control in C2H2/C2H4 selectivity, as unveiled by density functional calculations, is due to a guest discriminatory gate-opening effect from the diarylethene unit. Herein, we report a novel high-dimensional I3O3 organic–inorganic hybrid framework, namely [Cd3(OH)2(tza)2]n (1) (H2tza = 1H-tetrazolate-5-acetic acid), where a rare pure ths inorganic connectivity of Cd–Ohydroxyl is observed. We demonstrate herein a promising pathway towards low-energy CO2 capture and release triggered by UV and visible light. A photosensitive diarylethene ligand was used to construct a photochromic diarylethene metal-organic framework (DMOF). A local photochromic reaction originating from the framework movement induced by the photoswitchable diarylethene unit resulted in record CO2-desorption capacity of 75 % under static irradiation and 76 % under dynamic irradiation. Less attention has been paid to the solvent-dependent chirality transformation behavior of coordination compounds when using achiral precursors. We have successfully prepared one known helical achiral compound ( α -[AgL] n ∙ n H 2 O, 1 ) using water or DMSO as a solvent, one new helical homochiral MOF ( β -[AgL] n ∙ n H 2 O, 2 ) using DMF, dimethyl acetamide or ethanol as a solvent, and one new non-helical achiral compound ([Ag 2 L(NO 3 )] n , 3 ) using n -propyl alchohol or cyclohexanol as a solvent, with the V-shaped achiral ligand 3-aminobenzoic acid (HL) as a ligand. Achiral 1 can be converted from chiral isomeric 2 through recrystallization in water. Such successive chirality transformation (achirality → chirality → achirality) behavior is probably proportional the polarity of the used solvent: cyclohexanol ( 3 ) < n -propyl alchohol ( 3 ) < ethanol ( 2 ) < dimethyl acetamide ( 2 ) < DMF ( 2 ) < DMSO ( 1 ) < water ( 1 ). A precise control strategy has been employed to regulate the electronic structure and catalytic microenvironment of Pd nanoparticles through the synergistic effect of metal nodes and linker groups within the UiO-66. The higher electronegativity TiIV species and nitro-functionalized linker groups as electron acceptors effectively reduced the electron density of Pd species and synergistically promoted the activation of CO and MN. As a result, Pd@Ti-Zr-UiO-66-NO 2 exhibits excellent performance in direct CO esterification to DMC. While the microenvironment around metal catalytic sites is recognized to be crucial in heterogeneous catalysis, its roles in CO esterification to dimethyl carbonate remain subtle. Herein, Pd nanoparticles are confined into the metal–organic frameworks with TiIV metal substitutions and functional linker groups, namely Pd@Ti-Zr-UiO-66-X (X = H, NH 2 , NO 2). The partial substitution of metal nodes by Ti species can dramatically enhance the activity of CO, and synergistically improves catalytic performance with electron-withdrawing functionalized nitroxide linkers. As a result, Pd@Ti-Zr-UiO-66-NO 2 exhibits superior conversion of CO (67.5%), selectivity for DMC (83.5%, based on all products) and WTY for DMC (1725 g·kg cat −1·h−1) much higher than those of Pd@Zr-UiO-66-H with conversion of CO (46.4%), selectivity for DMC (87%) and WTY for DMC (1175 g·kg cat −1·h−1). Based on results of experimental and DFT calculation, the synergistic effect of highly electronegative Ti species and nitro-functional linker groups with electron-withdrawing ability realizes the precise control of the electronic structure and microenvironment of Pd NPs. The number of charges transferred from Pd NPs to Zr-UiO-66 and Ti-Zr-UiO-66-NO 2 increased from 1.83 to 2.69 e, respectively. The microenvironment of electron-deficient palladium species and Ti-Zr-UiO-66-NO 2 promotes the activation of MN and CO, which exhibits a superior performance in direct CO esterification to dimethyl carbonate. This study not only provides a new approach for rational modulation of the chemical microenvironment of metal centers and optimization of catalytic performance but also offers important insights for the design of heterogeneous catalysts. Abstract Materials that may show photochromism under X-rays have higher spatial resolution for visual low-energy X-rays detection over the commercial instruments and greater X-ray sensitivity than silver salt-based radiographic films. In this work, we discovered that the known MOF, [Zn(OOCH) 2 (Bpy)] n (Bpy = 4,4′-bipyridine), showed rare photochromic behaviour upon irradiation of hard and soft X-rays at room temperature. Abstract The assembly of a carboxylate substituted anthracene derivative with barium(II) salt yielded a 3D luminescent metal-organic framework [Ba 2 (adda) 2 (H 2 adda)(H 2 O) 2 ] n 1 (H 2 adda = (2 E ,2′ E)-3,3′-(anthracene-9,10-diyl) diacrylic acid), which was structurally characterized by elemental analysis, powdered and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Compound 1 exhibits a "turn on" luminescence response toward 4-nitrobenzoic acid (4-NBA) different from most nitroaromatic compounds displaying a "turn-off" luminescence stimulus. Increasing luminescence intensities with addition of 4-NBA in 1 dispersed in DMF are attributed to the dissociation of H 2 adda, evidenced by 1H NMR. Compound 1 is effective as a potential 4-NBA detector by establishing the relationship between the luminescence intensity of 1 and the molar concentration of 4-NBA. Abstract The appearance of the nitrogen-rich energetic MOFs provides another opportunity for the new-generation of high energetic explosives. In this work, an insensitive energetic nitrogen-rich ligand, 3-amino-1, 2, 4-triazole (Hatz) was imported into the system of transition-metal azides via the coordination polymerization strategy in the hope to prepare mixed-ligand nitrogen-rich high energetic MOF materials with low sensitivity and finally a solvent-free 3D energetic compacted metal-organic framework (MOF), Cd 3 (atz) 4 (N 3 ) 2 ( 1 ) was successfully isolated under hydrothermal conditions. Compound 1 was characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction, IR spectroscopy, elemental analysis (EA), different scanning calorimetry (DSC), and thermogravimetry analysis (TGA). Topological analysis shows that the 3D framework of 1 can be abstracted into a ten-connected topological network. The volatile azido ion can be viewed as a counter anion to be stabilized in a 3D framework as the connection of Cd(II) ions with two independent atz− ligands still remains a 3D framework. Compound 1 has a high calculated density ( ρ ) of 2.517 g cm−3. The standard molar enthalpy of formation ( Δ f H o ) of 1 was calculated to be 1330.10 kJ mol−1, which is higher than those of most of the previously 3D energetic MOFs. Sensitivity tests demonstrate that 1 is insensitive to external mechanical stimuli. TGA demonstrates that 1 has an excellent thermostability which can be stable up to 372 °C. Compound 1 can be served as a high-energy-density material with a favorable level of safety due to its excellent energetic performances, low sensitivities and excellent thermostability. Self-assembly reaction of Pb(NO 3 ) 2 with thiophene-2, 5-dicarboxylic acid (H 2 TDC) led to an acentric three-dimensional (3D) metal-organic framework under solvothermal conditions, namely, Pb(TDC) ( 1 ). The 3D framework of 1 is a pillared-layer structure with the I 2 O 1 type which is composed of a 2D inorganic Pb–O–Pb substructural layer and two independent μ 6 -TDC 2- anions pillars. This 3D framework shows a six-connected pcu topological net according to the topological analysis. Compound 1 crystallizes in an acentric space group and displays potential ferroelectric property which could be due to the swing of the thiophene rings. The remnant polarization ( P r ), coercive field ( E c ) and saturation spontaneous polarization ( P s ) of 1 are ca. 0.034 μC cm −2 , 15.7 kV cm −1 and 0.0997 μC cm −2 , respectively. Among the H 2 TDC-based MOFs, the present compound is the first example which shows ferroelectric property. Scintillators that exhibit X-ray stimulated light response have attracted increasing attention for their wide application in medical diagnosis and treatment, security inspection, industrial flaw detection and other aspects. However, the broader application of traditional inorganic and organic scintillators has been limited by their high preparation cost or poor adaptability to changeable environments. Here, a scintillating 1D metal–organic framework (MOF) [Pb(adda)(DMF)] n 1 (H 2 adda = (2 E ,2′ E)-3,3′-(anthracene-9,10-diyl) diacrylic acid, DMF = N , N -dimethylformamide) was prepared by a low-cost and short-cycle solvothermal process. Benefiting from the intrinsic synergistic effect of functional motifs and robust architecture, sensitive and steady X-ray response signals of 1 are demonstrated with an excellent linearity to the X-ray dose rates and stable light output under 9 h per day continuous irradiation during five days. In addition, the flexible MOF-based scintillator film is firstly applied in X-ray imaging application, which achieves a relatively high spatial resolution of 5.5 lp mm−1. A scarce highly sensitive primary explosives with excellent thermal stability was obtained. A new sensitive structural motif was first revealed for primary explosives. Although many primary explosives have been reported to date, there are three great challenges for researchers: 1) the persistent enhancement of the energetic properties of primary explosives, 2) the elucidation of sensitive structural motifs of the primary explosives, and 3) the establishment of the structural model of primary explosives with remarkable ignition performance and good thermostabilities. In this study, we employed the rigid tetrazole ligand to obtain two 3D energetic metal–organic frameworks (EMOFs) [Cu(N 3)(tz)] n 1 and [Cd 3 (N 3) 2 (tz) 3 (OH)] n 2 (Htz = tetrazole). Due to the rigid and cheated 3D nitrogen-rich metal–organic frameworks, both of the two compounds exhibit decent thermostabilities (>180 °C), and good energetic performance. In particular, the thermal decomposition temperature (T dec) of 1 is high up to 265 °C, which is higher than those of all hitherto known cupper azide-based primary explosives, including copper azide@carbon (called MOFT-CA, T dec = 204 °C) and [Cu(N 3) 2 (MTZ)] (called Cu-MTZ, MTZ = 1-methyl-5 H -tetrazole, T dec = 148 °C). Meanwhile, sensitivity tests reveal that the Impact sensitivy (IS) of 1 is ≤ 1.0 J, and the Friction sensitivity (FS) of 1 is ≤ 5.0 N, which is comparable with MOFT-CA (IS = 1 J, FS = 5 N), and superior to Cu(N 3) 2 with IS «1 J, FS « 0.1 N. Theoretical calculations demonstrate that there exists the new sensitive structural motif of azide-based EMOFs, strong repulsive steric clashes between the tetrazole ligand and azide ions, which was revealed for the first time. In addition, structural anaysis deduces that the sensitive structural motif inlaying the rigid 3D framework constucts the new structural model, which provides guidance and reference in exploring advanced primary explosives with excellent thermal stabilities. A novel open-framework cadmium selenite bromide, [Cd10(SeO3)8Br4]·HBr·H2O (1), has been obtained by a solid-state reaction at 450°C, and the structure has been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. Compound 1 crystallizes in Pbcm of the orthorhombic system: a=10.882(3), b=16.275(5), c=18.728(6)Å, V=3317(2)Å3, R1/wR2=0.0411/0.0659. Compound 1 is characteristic of a novel 3-D open-framework structure, composing ∞ 2[CdSeO3] layers and the pillars of edge-shared CdO3Br2 square pyramids. The lattice water molecules and the HBr molecules locate in the voids of the framework. Optical absorption spectrum of 1 reveals the presence of an optical gap of 1.65eV. Abstract: Hydrothermal reaction of NaN3, Na(4-cba) (4-Hcba = 4-cyanobenzoic acid) and ZnBr2 afforded a novel 3D Zn(II) coordination polymer [Zn2(4-tzba)2(H2O)]n 1 (4-H2tzba = 4-(5H-tetrazol)benzoic acid). In situ [2+3] cycloaddition reaction of nitrile and azide in the presence of ZnBr2 yielded tetrazolate-5-carboxylate 4-tzba2− ligand. Compound 1 displays an unprecedented four-connected topological network with 1D hexagonal channels constructed from trigonal rings [Zn3(4-tzba)6]. The solid-state photoluminescent studies revealed that 1 exhibits a strong blue emission mainly originating from 4-tzba2− ligand-centered charge transition. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: A series of lanthanide(III) complexes with chelidamic acid ligand, [Ln(C7H2NO5)·3H2O] n ·nH2O (Ln=La (1), Y (2), Sm (3), and Nd (4)), [Gd2(C7H2NO5)3·4H2O] n ·2nH2O (5) and [Ce(C7H2NO5)·1.5H2O] n (6), have been synthesized by hydrothermal method and structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Complexes 1–4 are isostructural and possess 2D framework. Complex 5 contains two different Gd(III) ions linked through carboxylate group to form a 2D framework. Complex 6 exhibits a (44) topology 2D network. The variable-temperature magnetic properties of 3 and 5 have been investigated. Furthermore, the photoluminescent properties of 1, 2, 3, and 5 at room temperature were also studied. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

A 3-D metal-organic framework [Cd(BPHY)(SA)] n 1 (BPHY = 1,2-bis(4-pyridyl)hydrazine, H 2 SA = succinic acid) has been solvothermally synthesized. Compound 1 features a 2-fold pillar-layered structure and crystallizes in a non-centrosymmetric space group ( I 2). It is testified to be second harmonic generation (SHG) active. The blue photoluminescence of 1 is attributed to BPHY-centered charge transition demonstrated by theoretical calculation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
