The article reports that the Israeli peace camp has failed to become a significant political movement because it could not find a peace partner among the various Palestinian movements. Some Israeli Jews maintain that living in occupied Palestine is a religious obligation and that modern European Jews are the direct descendants of the ancient Hebrews, who had exclusive rights to Palestine. The author says Secular Israelis who reject a one-state solution in favor of an exclusive Jewish state fear and mistrust their non-Jewish neighbors.
