The article reports on the battle among Democratic candidates who want to win the nomination for presidential election in the U.S. Senator Albert Gore Jr. captured five states which is surprising for someone who skipped Iowa and New Hampshire. Meanwhile, Jesse Jackson also won five which shows that he had broadened his appeal beyond the African-American vote. It is noted that Massachusetts Governor Michael S. Dukakis became the first Democrat to win convincingly outside his home region.
