According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, drought coverage in the Lower 48 States decreased slightly from February 27 to April 2. March storms helped replenish soil moisture in the Plains and Midwest, while the middle and northern Atlantic states experienced their wettest March on record. California received above-average rainfall and snowpack, ending its drought. The eastern half of the country experienced warmer temperatures, while the Pacific Coast and High Plains had near- or below-normal temperatures. Notable weather events included tornado outbreaks, heavy rainfall, and wildfires in certain areas. In April, Alaska had near to above normal snowpack, and the Bering Sea had slightly higher sea ice extent than the previous year. The month also saw severe thunderstorms, a high number of tornadoes, and a mix of extreme temperatures across the United States. Texas faced heavy rainfall and flooding, while Alaska experienced above-average precipitation and significant snowfall. [Extracted from the article]
