In diesem Artikel stellen wir eine Software vor, mit der sich Studien zu Such- und Informationssystemen realisieren lassen. Das Relevance Assessment Tool (RAT) soll umfangreiche Untersuchungen mit Daten von kommerziellen Suchmaschinen unterstützen. Die Software ist modular und webbasiert. Es lassen sich damit automatisiert Daten von Suchmaschinen erfassen. Dazu können Studien mit Fragen und Skalen flexibel gestaltet und die Informationsobjekte anhand der Fragen durch Juroren bewertet werden. Durch die Modularität lassen sich die einzelnen Komponenten für eine Vielzahl von Studien nutzen, die sich auf Web-Inhalte beziehen. So kann die Software auch für qualitative Inhaltsanalysen eingesetzt werden oder durch das automatisierte Scraping eine große Datenbasis an Web-Dokumenten liefern, die sich quantitativ in empirischen Studien analysieren lassen. In this article, we present a software that can be used to carry out studies on search and information systems. The goal of the Relevance Assessment Tool (RAT) is to support extensive research using data from commercial search engines. The software is a modular web-based software with which data from search engines can be recorded automatically, studies with questions and scales can be flexibly designed and the information objects can be evaluated by jurors on the basis of the questions. Due to the modularity the individual components can be used for a multitude of studies relating to web content. Thus, the software can also be used for qualitative content analyses or, through automated scraping, can provide a large database of web documents that can be analysed quantitatively in empirical studies. In diesem Aufsatz stellen wir eine repräsentative Multimethodenstudie (bestehend aus Umfrage, aufgabenbasierter Nutzerstudie und OnlineExperiment) zum Wissen und Verhalten der deutschen Internetnutzer bezüglich der Anzeigen auf Google-Suchergebnisseiten vor. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass die überwiegende Mehrzahl der Nutzenden nicht hinreichend in der Lage ist, Werbung von organischen Ergebnissen zu unterscheiden. Die aufgabenbasierte Studie zeigt, dass lediglich 1,3 Prozent der Teilnehmenden alle Anzeigen und organischen Ergebnisse richtig markieren konnten. 9,6 Prozent haben ausschließlich korrekte Markierungen vorgenommen, dabei aber keine Vollständigkeit erreicht. Aus den Ergebnissen der Umfrage geht hervor, dass es viele Unklarheiten gibt über das Geschäftsmodell von Google und die Art und Weise, wie Suchmaschinenwerbung funktioniert. Die Ergebnisse des Online-Experiments zeigen, dass Nutzende, die die Unterscheidung zwischen Anzeigen und organischen Ergebnissen nicht verstehen, etwa doppelt so häufig auf Anzeigen klicken wie diejenigen, die diese Unterscheidung verstehen. Implikationen für die Forschung ergeben sich in den Bereichen Wiederholungsstudien bzw. Monitoring der Anzeigendarstellung, vertiefende Laborstudien, Modelle des Informationsverhaltens, Informationskompetenz und Entwicklung fairer Suchmaschinen. In this paper we present a representative multi-method study (consisting of survey, task-based user study, and online experiment) of the knowledge and behaviour of German Internet users regarding Google ads. The results presented show that the overwhelming majority of users are not well able to distinguish advertisements from organic results on Google's search engine results pages. The task-based study showed that merely 1.3 percent of participants were able to mark all areas correctly. We also found that another 9.6 percent of participants had all their identifications correct but did not mark all results they were required to mark. From the survey, we found that there is a high degree of uncertainty about Google's business model and the way search engine advertising works among users. Results from the online experiment show that users with little knowledge of the distinction between ads and organic results click on advertisements approximately twice as often than users with a correct understanding.Implications for research include incentive for replication studies and monitoring of advertisement presentation, in-depth laboratory studies, models of information behaviour, information literacy and the development of fair search engines. Instructions for many different topics, so called Tutorials, have experienced a boom for some time passed. More and more offers are posted online; consequently the demand for proper platforms and search engines increases in order pool the variety and make it more searchable. This paper will focus on the less considered phenomena of a "Tutorial" and the search for this special medium. Different terms of the word "Tutorial" as well as social drivers that influence the increasing trend to produce and receive Tutorials are focused in this paper. Currently existing special search engines as one approach to search for Tutorials will be collected and accessed by their strengths and weaknesses in a market observation. The European search engine market has been dominated by one single search engine, namely Google, for many years. Most commentators agree that this situation is undesirable, and a discussion has started on ways to solve this problem. This article discusses different approaches, and then focuses onthe idea of building an OpenWebIndex (OWI). This index should be provided in the form of a public infrastructure. The core idea here is to unlink the data underlying a search engine (the index) and the (search) services themselves. Many such services could be built on the basis of one index. Information seeking in search engines can be regarded as a sequence of decisions a user needs to make to fulfil his information need. As search engines are the most-used service on the Internet, their importance cannot be underestimated. The power of search engines results from search engine providers' decisions on what users get to see on the results pages, including decisions on the results' positions and their display. There are many steps within the searching process where the design of the search engine can influence a user's decision for or against a certain result. Taken together with external influences of search results (e.g., through search engine optimization), users are guided towards certain results and results types, as well. This article considers the influence the design of search engines and the (assumed) intent of the search engine providers have on users' decisions within the searching process. The article reviews several online search engines for children. The author discusses the use of search engines including Blinde Kuh, fragFINN, and Helles Koepfchen by German children and examines the role of the Bundesfamilienministerium (Federal Family Ministry) in the administration of Blinde Kuh.
