A novel three-dimensional europium metal-organic framework (Eu-MOF), [Eu(L)(OAc)(DMA)] n ( 1 ), has been successfully obtained based on a newly designed ligand 4′-(3,5-dicarboxyphenyl)-4,2′:6′,4″-terpyridine (H 2 L). The structure of 1 was established by single crystal X-ray diffraction technique, and structure analysis shows that two Eu 3 + in 1 are 4-fold bridged by two η 1 :η 1 :μ 2 carboxylates from L 2 − and the other two η 1 :η 2 :μ 2 carboxylates from acetic acid, respectively. The binuclear [Eu 2 ] were further linked by L 2 − to form a 3D framework. The investigations on luminescent properties reveal that 1 can detect Al 3 + quickly with relatively high sensitivity and selectivity. More importantly, it displays high thermal and solvent stability. Additionally, a self-made fluorescence test paper fabricated based on 1 was used to detect Al 3 + in practice. Abstract: Three new nickel(II) complexes [Ni2(btec)(azopy)2(H2O)8]·2H2O (1), {[Ni(H2btec)(azopy)(H2O)2]·(azopy)} n (2) and {[Ni4(btec)2(azopy)3(H2O)10]·8H2O} n (3) (H4btec=1,2,4,5-benzenetetracarboxylic acid; azopy=4,4′-azobispyridine) have been synthesized by tuning the reaction temperature and the metal–ligand ratio. They were characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction and elemental analysis. 1 shows a binuclear structure, 2 exhibits a 2D grid, and 3 features an interesting 3D framework with (63)(4.62)(42.62.82) topology formed by two types of interlocked 2D layers. Abstract: Two 2D cadmium coordination polymers {[Cd(pda)(2,2′-bpy)(H2O)]·H2O} n (1) and {[Cd(pda)(4,4′-bpy)(H2O)]·2H2O} n (2) (H2pda=3,4-pyridinedicarboxylic acid; 2,2′-bpy=2,2′-bipyridine; 4,4′-bpy=4,4′-bipyridine) have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, infrared spectroscopy and X-ray single crystal diffraction. The 3D supramolecular structures of both 1 and 2 are constructed by hydrogen bonds between the 2D layers. Importantly, there are intramolecular π⋯π stacking interactions in both of the compounds. Three-dimensional silver/polyethyleneimine/alginate hydrogel beads have been prepared successfully via a facile and simple one-pot assembly method, which can be used efficiently in catalytic hydrogenation reaction of p -nitrophenol under batch and fixed-bed experiment. Polyethyleneimine is used to reduce and limit the growth of nano-silver particle and alginate microsphere is used as the catalyst carrier, leading to form well silver nanoparticles dispersion. Several characterizations were applied to the materials, such as X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. As-prepared catalysts only spent 120 s finishing reaction at ambient temperature (20% silver load) and stable catalytic performance with high conversion percentage for p -nitrophenol about 90% at 298 K under fixed-bed condition. The relationship between concentration and time was well depicted by Pseudo-first order kinetic model. The catalytic performance for recycled catalyst remained highly efficient, and the conversion efficiency of 96.4% can be maintained after 10 cycles. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

One three-dimensional Gd(III) coordination polymer with 1,2-phenylenediacetate (PDA 2 − ), [Gd 2 (PDA) 3 (H 2 O) 2 ]·3H 2 O (1), has been successfully synthesized and characterized. Single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis shows that 1 consists of 1D wave Gd-based chain unit and PDA 2 − linker. Magnetic studies suggest the presence of ferromagnetic Gd ⋯ Gd coupling in the 1D chain unit of 1. Three-dimensional (3D) hierarchical cabbage-like carbonaceous materials (Fe/CCMs- X , X means treating temperature) have been successfully prepared employing combinatorial processes of cobalt-assisted hydrothermal carbonization (HTC) of furfural and subsequent iron salt impregnation and thermal treatment. This new absorbent was characterized using powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), N 2 adsorption–desorption isotherms, Raman spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and vibrating sample magnetometry (VSM) techniques. The maximum reflection loss (RL) of Fe/CCMs-500 reached −22.9 dB, and the effective absorption bandwidth (RL ⩽ −10 dB) was 4.32 GHz (7.76–9.84 GHz and 11.20–13.44 GHz) corresponding to an absorber thickness of 2.5 mm, a low loading amount of iron (6.83%) component and high carbon content (69.8%), clearly demonstrating its wide absorption frequency range and strong absorption ability. The tetranuclear nickel cluster {[Ni4(L)4(C2H5OH)4]· 7H2O} (1) was synthesized based on the tridentate Schiff base ligand H2L = 1-phenyl-3-[(2-hydroxyphenyl)imino]-1-butanone. The structure of 1 was determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. It exhibits a discrete [Ni4O4] cluster. Magnetic studies indicate that ferromagnetic interactions exist within compound 1. Adsorptive desulfurization (ADS) is an effective method for the selective capture of thiophenic sulfur compounds, and the ADS capacity of an adsorbent has been demonstrated to strongly depend on the dispersion degree of active species. Herein, series of zirconia-modified SBA-15 (ZrSBA-15) framework with uniformly dispersed Cu sites have been prepared via a urea-assisted homogeneous deposition strategy, aiming for efficient adsorption towards thiophene. The resultant materials were thoroughly characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), N 2 adsorption–desorption isotherms, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and diffuse reflectance spectra (DRS) analysis techniques. It was revealed that the Cu species were highly dispersed inside the ordered ZrSBA-15 framework with platelet morphology, rather than aggregation outside the surface, leading to excellent adsorption capacity for thiophene (up to 9.35 mg/g at 50 °C). The adsorption kinetics and isotherm data can be well described by the pseudo-second-order kinetics model and the Langmuir isotherm, respectively. Spent adsorbent can be regenerated by simple heating treatment in N 2 at 500 °C, without obvious losing of thiophene adsorption capacity even after eight cycles. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

With formate as ligand, one discrete dragonfly-like 3d-4f cluster showing beautiful pyramidal metal skeleton, [GdCu4(HCOO)5(μ3-OH)4(NO3)2(H2O)7](H2O) ( 1Gd), was obtained by a self-assembly reaction of Gd(NO3)3, Cu(NO3)2, and formate ligand. The two nitrates could be treated as the 'wings' of the 'dragonfly', and the formate with a free oxygen atom could be regarded as the 'tail'. When using perchlorate instead of nitrate, two series of 1D compounds based on the similar pyramidal [ LnCu4] unit, linear {[GdCu4(HCOO)5(μ3-[OH)4(H2O)8](ClO4)2(H2O)2} n ( 2Gd) and zigzag {[ LnCu4Na2(HCOO)4(μ3-OH)4(H2O)9(ClO4)5](H2O)2} n [ Ln = Gd, ( 3Gd); Dy, ( 3Dy)] were synthesized by controlling the formate amount. They used μ5-η1:η4 formate or [Na2(ClO4)4]2- unit as connectors to link the neighboring [ LnCu4] units together, respectively. Four transition metal complexes with Schiff base and 1,10-phenanthroline, [Cu(L)(phen)]2·C2H5OH (1), [Zn(L)(phen)]2·C2H5OH (2), [Ni(L)(phen)]2·C2H5OH (3), and [Co(L)(phen)]2·C2H5OH (4) (H2L = 1-((2-hydroxynaphthalen-1-yl)methylene)thiosemicarbazide; phen = 1,10-phenanthroline) were synthesized and characterized by physico-chemical methods.
