While archives and special collections continue to welcome unique and valuable resources, small academic libraries can struggle with how to manage donation offers intended for their main collections. There is a need to be selective considering falling print circulation, workload increases for library personnel, and space restrictions. Additionally, limited collections funds needed for more current and higher-demand resources can be strained by the higher processing costs of donated materials. These pressures are compounded by prospective donors seeking a home for items they no longer want, a perception that small academic libraries need all donations, and a lack of understanding about the qualifications and expertise of academic library workers. Clearly communicated and regularly reviewed guidelines can help discourage unwanted donations in ways that lessen alienating our patrons. This article provides a content analysis of donations webpages from small academic libraries in Canada to identify trends and provide support for libraries reviewing their own policies and procedures in an effort to manage donor expectations. The University of Manitoba's Neil John Maclean Health Sciences Library is a recognized leader in Indigenous and circumpolar health for establishing the Aboriginal Health Collection in 1997, the first discrete collection of materials on the health of Indigenous peoples located in an academic health sciences library in Canada. This article describes the history, development, and scope of what is now known as the Indigenous Health Collection. In June 2015, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada (TRC) issued the calls to action as part of its mandate to gather information and document the history of Indian Residential Schools and their legacy for all Canadians. The ninety-four calls to action provide clear guidance to governments, institutions, and people to initiate changes to address the legacy in a spirit of true reconciliation. The Neil John Maclean Health Sciences Library was uniquely positioned to respond to the TRC calls to action. The enduring legacy of the residential schools and other discriminatory government policies is one that continues to impact the health status of many people in Canada who identify as Indigenous, First Nations, Metis, Inuit, or Aboriginal. The Indigenous Health Collection includes materials on the health, wellness, and lived experience of Indigenous peoples, the determinants that impact health, and publications documenting community-based and academic research and knowledge. This article provides an example of how an academic health sciences library used the seven TRC calls to action related to health as a framework to assess the resources and collections relied on by educators and students in the health professions. Abstract: The University of Ottawa, Canada, adopted a concurrent pilot project strategy for implementing a US and UK book approval plan. This meant that two vendors were simultaneously piloted for the services they could provide, and this allowed for a direct comparison between vendors. Timelines and objectives were determined. At the end of the process, a single vendor was selected as the provider for approval books in the humanities, social sciences, and health sciences. The process was time-consuming but proved an excellent learning experience in understanding vendor systems and capabilities. It allowed library staff to compare vendors in a tangible manner, and to make well-informed decisions on vendor approval plans. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

The article focuses on the deaccessioning strategy employed by the Glenbow Museum, a large museum in Canada, to ensure continuous operation. As part of the technique, the Glenbow Museum will deaccession and sell selected items from its international collections in order to create a Collections Endowment Fund, which will be protected against inflation and kept intact for future building of the collections. Information on the collections of the museum is presented.

This article focuses on a survey conducted to gather evidence for the elimination of a Reference Collection at the John W. Scott Health Sciences Library at the University of Alberta in Edmonton. Investigators conducted a literature search that determined titles on the shelf that are present or missing and titles that have been re-shelved for a 12-month period. The outcome of the effort is detailed.
