Red blood cell distribution width (RDW) indicates the heterogeneity in the size of circulating red blood cells. Increasing studies showed that RDW may be a diagnostic and prognostic marker in various tumors. To investigate the value of RDW as a biomarker in the diagnosis and prognosis of colorectal cancer (CRC), we evaluated 783 newly diagnosed CRC patients, 463 colorectal adenomas (CA) patients, and 331 healthy controls from June 2015 to October 2017 at Fujian Medical University Union Hospital. We found that RDW levels were significantly higher in CRC groups compared with both the CA and healthy control groups (P<0.001). Receiver-operating characteristic (ROC) analysis showed that the area under the ROC curve (AUC) for RDW, CEA, and CA19-9 was 0.643, 0.742, and 0.629 in discriminating CRC patients from healthy controls, respectively. When RDW cut-off value of 13.95 was applied, we distinguished CRC patients from healthy controls with a sensitivity of 41% and a specificity of 94%. Moreover, combined detection of RDW, CEA, and CA19-9 appeared to be a better diagnostic performance with a sensitivity of 56% and a specificity of 99%. However, RDW had little diagnostic value in the differential diagnosis between CRC patients and CA patients. More importantly, RDW levels were significantly associated with TNM stage, pT stage, pM stage, and tumor size among CRC patients. • In this work, We used the pseudoviruses and euvirus neutralization assay to evaluate the value of anti-SARS-CoV-2 antibody tests in a population of 10776 close contacts in the Delta variant epidemic of Fujian. And the results showed that neutralizing antibodies detected by Wantai bio. or Yahuilong bio. can get the level of 0.93 or 0.82 in correlation with euvirus neutralization assay. The findings of this study demonstrate that the detections of antibodies have profound value in the diagnosis of COVID-19. Nucleic acid detection represents limitations due to its false-negative rate and technical complexity in the COVID-19 pandemic. Anti-severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) antibody tests are widely spread all over the world presently. However, there is no report on the effectiveness of anti-SARS-CoV-2 antibody testing methods in China. We gathered 10776 serum samples from close contacts of the SARS-CoV-2 infections in Fujian of China and used 2 chemiluminescence immunoassays (Wantai Bio., Yahuilong Bio.) and 2 lateral flow immunoassays (Lizhu Bio. and Dongfang Bio.) to perform the anti-SARS-CoV-2 antibody tests in China. The 4 antibody tests have great diagnostic value for infected or uninfected, especially in the neutralizing antibodies tests, the AUC can reach 0.939 (Wantai Bio.) and 0.916 (Yahuilong Bio.). Furthermore, we used pseudoviruses and euvirus neutralization assay to validate the effectiveness of these antibody test, the results of pseudoviruses neutralization assay or euvirus neutralization assay shows a considerable correlation with the 4 antibody detection respectively, particularly in euvirus neutralization assay, neutralizing antibodies detected by Wantai Bio. or Yahuilong Bio., the correlation can get the level of 0.93 or 0.82. Background: There is a serious public health concern regarding the emergence of carbapenem-resistant Escherichia coli (CREC). The purpose of this study is to identify the molecular characterization and risk factors of CREC in Fujian province, China., Methods: A total of 48 CREC isolates were collected from various clinical samples. The strains were identified using matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF/MS). Susceptibility to antibiotics was determined by the standard broth microdilution method. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was used to screen common drug resistance genes. Multilocus sequence typing (MLST) was used to type isolates. RT-qPCR was used to detect gene expression of acrA, acrB, and tolC. Conjugation assays were used to analyze the transferability of plasmids carrying mcr-1 or bla NDM . Risk factors for CREC infection were identified by logistic regression analysis., Results: 48 CREC strains were collected, with 81.25% producing carbapenemase (CP-CREC), and 18.75% were not producing carbapenemase (no-CP-CREC). They belonged to 21 sequence type (STs) and five unknown STs. Perianal swabs were the main sample type, with 25 patients found to have hematological malignancies. All isolates of CP-CREC were found to contain bla NDM (bla NDM-5 (n = 32), bla NDM-1 (n = 5), bla NDM-4 (n = 1), and bla NDM-13 (n = 1)), among which one isolate co-existence bla NDM-5 and bla OXA-48 . Two bla NDM -positive strains, specifically bla NDM-5 and bla NDM-4 , were found to co-habor mcr-1 with ST617. Conjugation assays confirmed that bla NDM-1 , bla NDM-13 , and most bla NDM-5 (68.75%, 22/32) could be transferred between E. coli strains. Four of the 9 non-CP-CREC isolates had deletions in ompC and ompF with bla CTX-M production, while the other five showed high expression of acrA, acrB, and tolC. Antibiotics usage, antifungal treatment, detection of other pathogens (prior to CREC infection), and respiratory disease were identified as independent risk factors for CREC infection. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve for the scoring system was 0.937. Youden's index, with sensitivity and specificity of 0.96 and 0.78, was maximal when 2 points were scored., Conclusions: In CP-CREC, carbapenem resistance is caused primarily by multiple types of bla NDM , while non-CP-CREC is caused by loss of porin protein or high expression of efflux pumps coupled with carrying bla CTX-M . CREC isolates were highly diverse in terms of ST, with a total of 21 STs identified. Here, we first describe a clinical strain of CREC from China both mcr-1 and bla NDM -4 with ST617. This study aimed to investigate the frequency and features of diffuse alveolar hemorrhage (DAH) in Chinese patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and evaluate the association of DAH with the features. A total of 943 patients with SLE were categorized into two groups: 896 patients without DAH and 47 patients with DAH. The demographic data, clinical and laboratory findings, and SLE disease activity index 2000 of all patients were statistically analyzed. The DAH frequency in patients with SLE was 4.98%, and the mortality rate of DAH was 42.55%. The clinical features with statistical differences between the two groups were analyzed by multivariate logistic regression, and the results suggested that shorter disease duration [odds ratio (OR): 0.972, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.946, 0.998], younger age (OR: 0.867, 95% CI 0.764, 0.984), moderate (OR: 25.949, 95% CI 3.316, 203.065) or severe (OR: 24.904, 95% CI 2.675, 231.859) anemia, abnormally elevated levels of urine protein (OR: 10.839, 95% CI 1.351, 86.938) and serum creatinine (OR: 14.534, 95% CI 5.012, 42.142), interstitial lung disease (OR: 6.569, 95% CI 2.053, 21.021), and infection (OR: 8.890, 95% CI 3.580, 22.077) were independent risk factors for the occurrence of DAH in patients with SLE.
