Moso bamboo (Phyllostachys edulis) is a crucial species among the 500 varieties of bamboo found in China and plays an important role in providing ecosystem services. However, remote sensing studies on the invasion of Moso bamboo, especially its impact on forest biodiversity, are limited. Therefore, we explored the feasibility of using Sentinel-2 multispectral data and digital elevation data from the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission and random forest (RF) algorithms to monitor changes in forest diversity due to the spread of Moso bamboo. From October to November 2019, researchers conducted field surveys on 100 subtropical forest plots in Zhejiang Province, China. Four biodiversity indices (Margalef, Shannon, Simpson, and Pielou) were calculated from the survey data. Subsequently, after completing 100 epochs of training and testing, we developed the RF prediction model and assessed its performance using three key metrics: coefficient of determination, root mean squared error, and mean absolute error. Our results showed that the RF model has a strong predictive ability for all indices except for the Pilou index, which has an average predictive ability. These results demonstrate the feasibility of using remote sensing to monitor forest diversity changes caused by the spreading of Moso bamboo. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Bamboo invasion into broadleaf forests is a common phenomenon in karst areas; however, the effect of bamboo invasion on soil organic carbon (SOC) in karst areas and the mechanism of the effect are not clear. We selected the study site with broad-leaved forests (BF), mixed forests (MF), and pure bamboo (Indosasa shibataeoides McClure) forests (IF). Furthermore, we sampled the soil from 0 cm to 20 cm and 20 cm to 40 cm layers in the region and investigated the soil properties, organic carbon fractions, and microbial communities. At the same time, we sampled the litterfall layer of different stands and determined the biomass. The results showed that bamboo invasion increased the litterfall biomass per unit area of karst forest, increased the bulk weight of the 0–20 cm soil layer, and lowered the soil pH in the 0–20 cm and 20–40 cm soil layers, bamboo invasion consistently increased the content of soil AN and AK, whereas the content of AP was significantly reduced after bamboo invasion. Both active organic carbon groups (MBC, DOC, and EOC) and passive organic carbon groups (Fe/Al-SOC and Ca-SOC) increased significantly after bamboo invasion. The bamboo invasion increased the diversity of soil microorganisms and bacterial communities; the relative abundance of Actinobacteriota increased in MF and IF, while the relative abundance of Firmicutes decreased in IF. The structure of fungal communities was altered during the bamboo invasion, with an increase in the relative abundance of Mortierellomycota and a decrease in the relative abundance of Basidiomycota at the level of fungal phyla. Partial least squares path modeling analysis identified bamboo invasion enhanced SOC sequestration mainly by increasing litterfall biomass and altering the structure of the fungal community, and the effect of bacteria on SOC was not significant. To investigate the effect of lake water backflowing on the aquatic ecosystem in the estuary, surface water samples in the backflowing and unbackflowing areas were collected from one typical estuary of Lake Taihu, Xitiaoxi River. 16S rRNA sequencing and redundancy analysis were conducted to quantitatively elucidate the correlation between microbial community and water quality parameters. Results indicated lake water backflowing would affect the relative distribution of nitrogen species and increase the concentration of total nitrogen (TN) and nitrate, especially in the outlets of municipal sewage and agricultural drainage. For backflowing areas, more frequent water exchange could lower the seasonal fluctuation of the abundance and diversity of microbial community. RDA results showed crucial water quality parameters that greatly influence bacterial community were total organic carbon (TOC), total dissolved solids (TDS), salinity (SAL), ammonia, nitrate, TN for backflowing areas, and TOC, TDS, SAL, ammonia, TN without nitrate for unbackflowing areas. Verrucomicrobia, Proteobacteria, Microcystis, and Arcobacter were dominant with 27.7%, 15.7%, 30.5%, and 25.7% contribution to the overall water quality in backflowing areas. Chloroflexi, Verrucomicrobia, Flavobacterium, and Nostocaceae were dominant with 25.0%, 18.4%, 22.3%, and 11.4% contribution to the overall water quality in unbackflowing areas. And lake water backflowing might mainly affect the amino acid and carbohydrate metabolism based on the metabolism function prediction. A better understanding of the spatiotemporal changes in water quality parameters and microbial community was obtained from this research to comprehensively assess the effect of lake water backflowing on the estuarine ecosystem. The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has set decarbonisation goals for the shipping industry. As a result, shipowners and operators are preparing to use low- or zero-carbon alternative fuels. The greenhouse gas (GHG) emission performances are fundamental for choosing suitable marine fuels. However, the current regulations adopt tank-to-wake (TTW) emission assessment methods that could misrepresent the total climate impacts of fuels. To better understand the well-to-wake (WTW) GHG emission performances, this work applied the life cycle assessment (LCA) method to a very large crude carrier (VLCC) sailing between the Middle East and China to investigate the emissions. The life cycle GHG emission impacts of using alternative fuels, including liquified natural gas (LNG), methanol, and ammonia, were evaluated and compared with using marine gas oil (MGO). The bunkering site of the VLCC was in Zhoushan port, China. The MGO and LNG were imported from overseas, while methanol and ammonia were produced in China. Four production pathways for methanol and three production pathways for ammonia were examined. The results showed that, compared with MGO, using fossil energy-based methanol and ammonia has no positive effect in terms of annual WTW GHG emissions. The emission reduction effects of fuels ranking from highest to lowest were full solar and battery-based methanol, full solar and battery-based ammonia, and LNG. Because marine ammonia-fuelled engines have not been commercialised, laboratory data were used to evaluate the nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions. The GHG emission reduction potential of ammonia can be exploited more effectively if the N2O emitted from engines is captured and disposed of through after-treatment technologies. This paper discussed three scenarios of N2O emission abatement ratios of 30%, 50%, and 90%. The resulting emission reduction effects showed that using full solar and battery-based ammonia with 90% N2O abatement performs better than using full solar and battery-based methanol. With the continuous development of engineering construction in China, more and more large-section highway tunnels have emerged. Different geological engineering environments determine the diversity of construction plans. The determination of construction plans and the prediction of tunnel deformations have always been the key points of engineering construction. In this paper, we use numerical simulations to determine specific construction parameters in the context of actual highway tunnel projects, and then use deep learning methods to predict deformation during tunnel construction, thus providing guidance for construction. We have found that: (i) Different excavation sequences and excavation depths have different effects on the surrounding rock deformation around the tunnel. The optimal excavation sequence through numerical simulation in this study is symmetrical excavation, and the excavation depth is 2 m. (ii) Numerical simulation based on Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) algorithm is used to predict the tunnel deformation. It is found that the prediction results of the LSTM algorithm are more consistent with the actual monitoring data. (iii) Multi-step prediction is more important for engineering guidance, and three-step prediction can be considered during the process of engineering construction. Background: Autologous osteochondral transplantation (AOT) is a treatment option for large or cystic osteochondral lesions of the talus (OLTs), with promising clinical results. However, donor-site morbidity (DSM) has always been a concern with this procedure. Purpose: To investigate the clinical and radiological outcomes of autograft harvesting from the medial trochlea for OLTs. Study Design: Case series; Level of evidence, 4. Methods: A total of 46 consecutive patients were included after AOT procedures for OLTs, with donor autografts (single or double plugs) harvested from the medial trochlea of the ipsilateral knee. Lysholm scores were collected postoperatively at 12-month intervals to assess clinical outcomes. Postoperative magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was used to assess the donor site using the MOCART (magnetic resonance observation of cartilage repair tissue) score. DSM was evaluated at 12-month intervals. Statistical analysis was performed to compare patients treated with single-plug and double-plug AOT procedures and establish whether there was any correlation between MOCART and Lysholm scores. Results: The mean follow-up period was 98.3 months (range, 67-144 months). The Lysholm scores for all patients were 92.5 ± 6.1 and 99.9 ± 0.2 at the 12-month and final follow-ups, respectively. MRI of the donor sites was taken at an average of 93.8 ± 20.5 (range, 61-141) months postoperatively, and the mean MOCART score was 76.2 ± 4.9. The overall incidence of DSM in this study was 4.3% at 12 months, postoperatively, which decreased to 0% at the 24-month follow-up. There was no significant difference in either the Lysholm score (P =.16) or the MOCART score (P =.83) between the single-plug and double-plug groups at the final follow-up. There were no significant correlations between MOCART and Lysholm scores and patient age, number of grafts, or body mass index. Conclusion: According to the study findings, the DSM of donor autografts harvested from the medial trochlea was low, and the number (single or double) of grafts did not affect the functional outcome. The Yellow River basin (YRB) is China's most critical energy consumption and coal production area. The improvement of carbon emission reduction efficiency in this area is the key for the Chinese government to achieve the 2030 carbon peak and 2060 carbon neutral ("30.60"). Given this, this study first calculates the carbon emission efficiency of YRB from 2005 to 2019 based on the slack-based measured directional distance function (SBM-DDF) model and combined with Malmquist–Luenberger (ML) index and decomposes the carbon emission efficiency of each province. Then, a panel Tobit model with random effect is constructed to measure the influencing factors and their influence degree of carbon emission efficiency of YRB. Finally, the main influencing factors are selected, and policy suggestions on how to improve the carbon emission efficiency of each province are put forward with the help of the coupling coordination degree (CCD) model. The results show that first, the carbon emission efficiency of each province is significantly different, but it shows a fluctuating upward trend on the whole. Second, the reasons for the rise or decline of the ML index in different provinces are different. Therefore, the development strategies of different provinces should be formulated from the perspective of accelerating technological progress and improving technical efficiency. Finally, the calculation results of influencing factors and coupling coordination degrees show that provinces with high coupling coordination degrees should focus on developing per capita power consumption and controlling per capita power consumption to consolidate the actual urbanization process and industrial structure adjustment. Provinces with low coupling coordination degrees should focus on maintaining the urbanization process and increasing the development of the tertiary industry. Therefore, to fundamentally reduce carbon emissions in YRB areas, we need to consider implementing differentiated emission reduction schemes based on national strategic objectives and in combination with the development characteristics of various provinces. The resource, environment, and ecological value of drinking reservoirs have received widespread concerns due to the pollution of persistent organic pollutants such as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). Therefore, we comprehensively studied the occurrence, source, distribution, and risk assessment of representative PAHs in Fengshuba Reservoir (FSBR) (large drinking reservoir, China). The total concentrations of 16 USEPA PAHs in the water phase, porewater phase, sediment phase, and soil phase were in ranges of 109.72–393.19 ng/L, 5.75–35.15 μg/L, 364.4–743.71 μg/kg, and 367.81–639.89 μg/kg, respectively. The naphthalene (Nap) was the dominant PAHs in the water phase, while it was Nap and phenanthrene (Phe) in porewater, sediment, and soil phase. The main sources of PAHs in FSBR were biomass combustion. Redundancy analysis indicated that the NTU, NO2-, NH4+, Chl-α, and IC were the dominant factors influencing the PAH distribution in water phase, and the PAHs in sediment phase was affected by T and NO3-. Pseudo-partitioning coefficients indicated that the PAHs in the porewater phase were more likely to migrate to the sediment phase. Risk assessment indicated that the PAHs both in the water and sediment phases were generally in a low-risk state, while the PAHs in the soil phase were in a moderate-risk state, and the Nap was in a high-risk state, and exposure to the PAHs in FSBR through drinking and skin exposure had little impact on consumers' health. Eutrophication of environmental waters and occurrence of harmful cyanobacterial blooms have drawn much attention all over the world. For controlling cyanobacteria overgrowth, biological control methods such as anticyanobacterial process by microorganisms have been recently explored. In this study, a Streptomyces strain named HJC‐D1 is isolated from an eutrophic pond in China, which exhibited anticyanobacterial activity against a representative bloom‐forming cyanobacterium Microcystis aeruginosa. Based on its morphology and 16S rRNA sequence, the isolated strain is identified as Streptomyces sp. Results show that the M. aeruginosa is biodegraded by the isolated strain HJC‐D1, and the Chl a removal efficiency is 53.5 ± 4.3%–62.6 ± 3.3% at the initial Chl a concentration of 0.2713–0.6375 mg L−1. The anticyanobacterial mechanism of Streptomyces sp. on M. aeruginosa is that the growth of cyanobacterial cell is destroyed by the active substances secreted by strain HJC‐D1, and TEM results demonstrate the degradation processes are divided into three steps: cell breakage, organelle release, and cell death. The isolated microorganism may be a potential environment‐friendly strain and provides a possible approach for Microcystis bloom control in lakes and reservoirs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In the Paris Agreement, there are targets set up for 2100 to be well below 2 °C. A more ambitious target of 1.5 °C also appears in the agreement. In order to address whether this target is achievable or not, studies about the 1.5 °C target's emission pathway are essential. Recently a few studies have presented modelling results of the global emission pathway for the 1.5 °C target. This paper presents an analysis for China under the global 1.5 °C pathway and budget, by looking at key options to go beyond the 2 °C target pathway. Similar to the global emission pathway, China's CO2 emissions have to be reduced quickly and reach zero emission between 2050 and 2060. China's energy system needs to make a rapid transition to much greater reduction in fossil fuel use from now on. End-use sectors need to increase electricity use significantly. Power generation will achieve negative emission before 2050. CCS will be widely used, and biomass energy with CCS (BECCS) must be adopted on a large scale by 2040. Airborne bacteria may absorb the substance from the atmospheric particles and play a role in biogeochemical cycling. However, these studies focused on a few culturable bacteria and the samples were usually collected from one site. The metabolic potential of a majority of airborne bacteria on a regional scale and their driving factors remain unknown. In this study, we collected particulates with aerodynamic diameter ≤2.5 μm (PM 2.5) from 8 cities that represent different regions across China and analyzed the samples via high-throughput sequencing of 16S rRNA genes, quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) analysis, and functional database prediction. Based on the FAPROTAX database, 326 (80.69%), 191 (47.28%) and 45 (11.14%) bacterial genera are possible to conduct the pathways of carbon, nitrogen, and sulfur cycles, respectively. The pathway analysis indicated that airborne bacteria may lead to the decrease in organic carbon while the increase in ammonium and sulfate in PM 2.5 samples, all of which are the important components of PM 2.5. Among the 19 environmental factors studied including air pollutants, meteorological factors, and geographical conditions, PM 2.5 concentration manifested the strongest correlations with the functional genes for the transformation of ammonium and sulfate. Moreover, the PM 2.5 concentration rather than the sampling site will drive the distribution of functional genera. Thus, a bi-directional relationship between PM 2.5 and bacterial metabolism is suggested. Our findings shed light on the potential bacterial pathway for the biogeochemical cycling in the atmosphere and the important role of PM 2.5 , offering a new perspective for atmospheric ecology and pollution control. The series hybrid transmission (SHT) and series-parallel hybrid transmission (SPHT) have become an important development direction in the field of hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) in China. The main difference between a SHT and SPHT is that the engine can directly drive the vehicle through the addition of one clutch in the SPHT. The SPHT is thus more complex in structure, but its fuel economy advantages, as compared with the SHT, have remained controversial. Therefore, this study provides a thorough comparison between the SHT and SPHT for different types of vehicles and driving cycles. A global optimal control strategy based on dynamic programming (DP) is developed to evaluate the economic performance of the SHT and SPHT. Particularly, a mode-switching penalty matrix is designed in the control strategy based on the energy consumed during the mode-switching process. To exclude the influence of the configuration parameters and power sources, a large number of simulations are conducted for different parameter combinations. The results show that the SPHT has notable advantages in fuel saving compared with the SHT, especially in high-speed driving cycles for type C vehicles, while there is a negligible difference in the fuel consumption between the two for type A vehicles under urban driving cycles. Under the Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Cycle (WLTC), the SPHT has a fuel saving of approximately 7.2% more than the SHT for type B vehicles. This study employed spatial regression to analyze the determinants of dissolved oxygen (DO) and nutrients in the Qiantang River, China. Determinants of their spatial patterns in 1996 and 2003 as well as their dynamics during this time period were characterized at sub-basin and 500-m riparian buffer scales. Results indicated that the determinants differed by variable and by scale. Built-ups, farmland, water body, population density and gross domestic product were positive indicators for nutrient pollution and hypoxia, while distance to river source and forest were negative indicators. Higher slope variability indicates more DO and nutrients. In addition, built-up increases that were accelerated by population growth and economic development accounted for DO and nutrients dynamics to a large extent. Food, energy, and water (FEW) are interconnected pillars that underpin the security of people's livelihoods. In this paper, we propose a decision-support model to better understand and aid management of regional FEW nexus systems under uncertainty. We apply the model to a case study focusing on fluctuations in water supply, which significantly affect production in the agriculture and energy sectors in Shanxi Province, China. We use a two-stage, stochastic, chance-constrained programming approach to the proposed spatially detailed cost-minimizing FEW nexus model under demand and natural resource (land and water) constraints. This approach translates the target reliability level (i.e., the probability that the devised solution can satisfy all constraints) into a penalty that has to be paid in the case of their non-fulfillment. On this basis, robust decisions (i.e., production options suitable for a broad variation in certainty of water supply) are derived. Using this approach, we estimate the penalties required to achieve given levels of reliability by incentivizing the deployment of water-saving technologies. For example, our model predicts that water storage would become cost-effective if the penalty for exceeding the available water supply were 2.5 times higher than the current price for industrial water; this would enable at least 40% reliability compared to 18% if the penalty were at the current water price level. Taking advantage of the differences in water intensity of crops in different sites, our model optimizes the reservoir location, which allows water withdrawal by agriculture to be reduced by 1.23%. We also evaluate the benefits of incorporating uncertainty and missed opportunity due to a lack of perfect information. In the case study, we show that the benefits of including uncertainty in the form of the two-stage stochastic programming approach appear to be quite significant, reaching 4% of the total solution costs. To realize China's low-carbon development, coal needs to be produced and consumed in a clean and efficient way. In this paper, a multi-regional coal supply model is developed to gain insights into China's coal supply system up to 2050. Regional disparity, coal classification, and the development of clean coal technologies are specified in the model. Based on MESSAGEix, this model takes full consideration of coal mining, preparation, transformation, and transportation processes. Moreover, the effects of non-fossil energy development and carbon price are discussed. With the above framework, the future of China's coal supply system is optimized. Results indicate that: 1) China's national raw coal production will peak in 2030 under the business- as -usual scenario, while it has already peaked under the GREEN and carbon price scenarios, 2) The amount of coal used in final consumption and transformed into coke decreases, while coal transformed into liquids and SNG increases from 11 Mt in 2015 to 221 Mt in 2050 under the business- as -usual scenario, 3) both non-fossil fuel development and carbon price strategies have a positive effect on coal supply regulation and coal-related GHG emission reduction, 4) carbon price could facilitate the adoption of CCS technology and can effectively reduce coal-related GHG emissions. • A multi-regional coal supply model with four types of raw coal is developed. • Raw coal production in China will peak in 2030 at 3791 Mt under the BAU scenario. • Coal production will be more concentrated in JSMN region and XJ region. • Raw coal output in the GREEN scenario is 9% lower than the BAU scenario in 2050. • Carbon price scenarios have a significant effect on GHG emissions reduction. • Countries in 3-G are an ideal data source for the international scenario research. • Scenarios mined in this paper highly consistent with Euro-NCAP 2025 Roadmap. • Some critical scenario elements are missing in Euro-NCAP 2025 Roadmap. • Some critical information is missing in IGLAD database. Scenario-based testing is crucial for considering the intended functional safety of automated driving vehicles. For the first time, pre-crash scenario mining research was conducted using worldwide accident data obtained from the Initiative for the Global Harmonization of Accident Data (IGLAD). First, data from the IGLAD database were analyzed and divided into four categories based on differences in traffic environments among countries and regions. Second, according to actual accident characteristics, fields and methods of clustering were selected, and 21 typical pre-crash scenarios were obtained using clustering and analysis. Finally, the typical scenarios were analyzed and compared in detail. Four conclusions were drawn as follows: 1. Considerable differences exist in traffic participant types, accident forms, and typical scenarios across countries and regions. 2. The third group of countries (3-G, represented by China and Brazil) in which accidents and pre-crash scenarios are the most representative and diverse is an ideal data source for the international scenario research. 3. The typical scenarios mined through clustering were highly consistent with the new test scenarios added in the Euro-NCAP 2025 Roadmap, but a few typical scenario elements which are critical for safety evaluations were still not covered in Roadmap. 4. Data from the IGLAD database still lacks a few important pieces of information for scenario research, such as obstruction of visual field due to obstacles, and the data representativeness need to be improved, therefore we recommend that IGLAD database adds some new data parameters to fit the further scenario research, and propose distribution requirements of accident data considering scenario elements. Few studies have explored the mental health status of parents of children with burns and the moderating effect of social support on them. A survey was performed with parents of 112 burn-injured children at a burn center in China. Their perceived stress, anxiety, depression, sleep quality, and social support were measured by the Chinese Perceived Stress Scale, Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale, Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, and Perceived Social Support Scale. ➀ The prevalence of anxiety (46.43%), depression (52.67%) and poor sleep quality (43.75%) of parents indicated that they experienced emotional and sleep disorders;➁ The perceived stress was positively correlated with sleep quality, anxiety and depression（P＜0.01), and negatively correlated with perceived social support (p＜0.05); ➂ Social support had a significant moderating effect on their perceived stress and anxiety, depression, but not on their sleep quality. With high social support, parental perceived stress had a significant positive association on anxiety and depression, while with low perceived social support, parental perceived stress had no significant association on anxiety and depression. Parents of burned children had increased stress, obvious symptoms of anxiety and depression, and poor sleep quality. Social support had a significant buffering effect on them under low pressure, and high pressure will hinder the buffering effect of social support on stress. As thallium (Tl) is a highly toxic heavy metal, there are compulsory environmental regulations in many countries on minimizing its release. This research investigated the treatment of real industrial wastewater with low Tl(I) concentration by Fe0-electrocoagulation (Fe0-EC) in a batch aeration-forced pump cycle reactor. The effects of pH (7–12), current density (8.3–33.3 mA/cm2), dissolved oxygen (DO) in wastewater, and initial Tl(I) concentration (66–165 µg/L) on Tl(I) removal efficiency were investigated. The removal efficiency of Tl(I) is pH-dependent, to be exact, it increases significantly with pH rising from 8 to 11. Initial pH of influent and DO concentration were the key operation parameters which strongly affect Tl(I) removal. After the water sample with initial Tl(I) concentration of 115 µg/L was treated for 12 min by a single-step process at pH of 11 and current density of 16.7 mA/cm2, the residual Tl(I) concentration was decreased to beneath the emission limit in China (2 µg/L) with a low energy consumption of 0.82 kWh/m3. By prolonging the operation time, the concentration was further reduced to 0.5 µg/L or even lower. The main composition of the flocculent sludges is iron oxyhydroxide, yet its crystal structure varies dependent on pH value which may result in different Tl(I) removal efficiency. Feroxyhyte nanosheets generate in situ by Fe0-EC, which contributes to the rapid and effective removal of Tl(I), while the speedy oxidation under DO-enriched conditions benefits the feroxyhyte formation. The mechanism of Tl(I) removal by Fe0-EC is attributed to the combination of electrostatic attraction and the formation of inner-sphere complexes. Abstract: Spatial regression, incorporating spatial error or lag dependency, was performed to interpret determinants of hazardous chemicals at full sub-basin scale and at 500m riparian buffer scale in Qiantang River, eastern coastal China. Monitoring data from 41 monitoring stations were collected between 1996 and 2003 and pretreated for 7 variables—petroleum, hexavalent chromium, total cadmium, total lead, total mercury, total cyanide, and volatile phenol. Results showed that primary predictors and the predictive ability of spatial regression differed with variables and scales. Topology, distance to river source, land use/land cover (LULC), population density, and gross domestic product (GDP) can be primary predictors for the pattern of certain hazardous chemical variables in 1996 and 2003. LULC types were good predictors for changes of cyanide and heavy metals, while GDP and population density contributed to petroleum dynamics between 1996 and 2003. This study demonstrated that spatial regression is a promising tool for generating indicators to tackle with hazardous chemical pollution. Abstract: In this study, we investigated the PEG attachment site of mono-PEGylated Endostar, a modified recombinant human endostatin approved in China for lung cancer. N-terminal site-directed mono-PEGylation of Endostar was accomplished using mPEG-propionaldehyde derivatives (Mw=20kDa) under slightly acidic pH conditions (pH 5.5). One-step cation exchange chromatography was used to purify the mono-PEGylated Endostar. Following tryptic digestion, the peptide fragment containing PEG was separated by SDS-PAGE. Barium iodide staining and Western blotting were used to detect the PEG moiety and the N-terminus of Endostar, respectively. The peptide fragment stained by barium iodide showed a positive response to anti-(His) 6 mAb, demonstrating that PEG was located at the N-terminus of Endostar. Abstract: Objectives: This research investigated (1) the attitudes of dental patients toward searching online for dental information and (2) patients attitudes and expectations towards a web-based 3D virtual reality program for clinical dentistry. Methods: A questionnaire survey was conducted in six clinics across two cities in China. Dental patients visiting the six clinics were invited to participate in the study. All subjects browsed a webpage containing the 3D virtual reality dental program. The new media was supplemented as a consultive system for patients into the traditional pattern of seeking dental care procedure. Subjects then completed a questionnaire detailing their attitudes toward their experience with the software. The questionnaire responses were then collected and analyzed. Results: 45% of respondents reported having searched information online before receiving dental care. Respondents held different attitudes towards the online dental information, with a majority reporting a reliance on it but with reservations. Over 50% of respondents held positive attitudes to the web-based virtual reality dental information program, while 21% reported negative views toward the new method. Most respondents reported that the web-based virtual reality program was superior to traditional static web pages, but only as a supplementary material. Respondents also indicated that internet speed may likely be a major determinant to their future usage of such a system. Conclusions: These findings indicate that a considerable portion of respondents conduct their own internet searches for related dental information before seeking professional advice on dental care. Most of the respondents reported positive attitudes towards a web-based virtual reality program for clinical dentistry. However, the current speed of internet connections in China is a major area of concern for the future application and uptake of web-based virtual reality dental software. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Background: Public health emergencies impose unique challenges on pregnant women, affecting their physiological, psychological, and social wellbeing. This study, focusing on the context of the corona virus disease in 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic in China, aims to comprehensively explore the experiences of pregnant women amidst diverse public health crises. Herein, we investigate the health education needs of pregnant Chinese women in regard to public health emergencies to provide a scientific foundation for the development of targeted health education strategies., Objective: The study described in this article aims to explore the health education needs of pregnant Chinese women in the context of public health emergencies specifying the types of emergencies of pandemics and to provide a scientific basis for targeted health education interventions., Methods: Thirteen pregnant women were purposively selected, and the rationale for this sample size lies in the qualitative nature of the study, seeking in-depth insights rather than generalizability. Data collection involved semi-structured interviews, and the Colaizzi, which is a structured qualitative technique used to extract, interpret, and organize significant statements from participant descriptions into themes, providing a comprehensive understanding of their lived experiences., Results: The analysis yielded six prominent themes encompassing the following areas: I. Personal protection and vaccine safety; II. Knowledge of maternal health; III. Knowledge of fetal health; IV. Knowledge of childbirth; V. Knowledge of postpartum recovery; and VI. Knowledge sources of health education for pregnant women and their expectations of healthcare providers. Theme I was analyzed with two sub-themes (needs for personal protection knowledge, vaccine safety knowledge needs); Theme II was analyzed with three sub-themes (nutrition and diet, exercise and rest, sexual life); Theme III was analyzed with three sub-themes (medications and hazardous substances, pregnancy check-ups, and fetal movement monitoring); Theme IV was analyzed with three sub-themes (family accompaniment, analgesia in childbirth, and choice of mode of delivery); Theme V was analyzed with one sub-theme (knowledge of postnatal recovery); Theme VI was analyzed with one sub-theme (expectations of Healthcare providers). Sub-themes within each main theme were identified, offering a nuanced understanding of the multifaceted challenges faced by pregnant women during public health emergencies. Objective: Incomplete spinal cord injury (SCI) is the most common spinal cord injury in clinic, however its mechanism is still not fully understood., Design: We constructed the rabbit spinal cord hemisection (SCH) model and used RT-PCR, western blotting, immunohistochemistry, and immunofluorescence experiments to explore the potential mechanism of SCI., Setting: The sham operation (SH) group, the observation (OB, which is the SCH) group, the OB+ substance p (SP) inhibitor group, the OB + NK1R inhibitor group, the OB + NK1R agonist group and the OB + SP inhibitor + NK1R agonist group., Participants: New Zealand white rabbits., Interventions: Use NK1R inhibitors, NK1R agonists, SP inhibitors to treat the SCH model., Outcome Measures: IL-1β, IKKγ, IL-6 and NF-κB., Results: The results showed that nissl bodies, inflammatory cells and SP increased notably in the spinal cord cells of the rabbit SCH model. Airborne bacteria may absorb the substance from the atmospheric particles and play a role in biogeochemical cycling. However, these studies focused on a few culturable bacteria and the samples were usually collected from one site. The metabolic potential of a majority of airborne bacteria on a regional scale and their driving factors remain unknown. In this study, we collected particulates with aerodynamic diameter ≤2.5 μm (PM 2.5 ) from 8 cities that represent different regions across China and analyzed the samples via high-throughput sequencing of 16S rRNA genes, quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) analysis, and functional database prediction. Based on the FAPROTAX database, 326 (80.69%), 191 (47.28%) and 45 (11.14%) bacterial genera are possible to conduct the pathways of carbon, nitrogen, and sulfur cycles, respectively. The pathway analysis indicated that airborne bacteria may lead to the decrease in organic carbon while the increase in ammonium and sulfate in PM 2.5 samples, all of which are the important components of PM 2.5 . Among the 19 environmental factors studied including air pollutants, meteorological factors, and geographical conditions, PM 2.5 concentration manifested the strongest correlations with the functional genes for the transformation of ammonium and sulfate. Moreover, the PM 2.5 concentration rather than the sampling site will drive the distribution of functional genera. Thus, a bi-directional relationship between PM 2.5 and bacterial metabolism is suggested. Our findings shed light on the potential bacterial pathway for the biogeochemical cycling in the atmosphere and the important role of PM 2.5 , offering a new perspective for atmospheric ecology and pollution control., (Copyright © 2021 Elsevier Ltd. Objective: We aimed to investigate the alterations of brain functional connectivity (FC) in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients without clinical evidence of cognitive impairment and microvascular complications (woCIMC-T2DM) using resting-state functional MRI (rs-fMRI) and to determine whether its value was correlated with clinical indicators., Methods: A total of 27 T2DM and 26 healthy controls (HCs) were prospectively examined. Cognitive impairment was excluded using the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) and the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) scales, and microvascular complications were excluded by fundus photography, microalbuminuria, and other indicators. The correlation maps, derived from rs-fMRI with posterior cingulate cortex (PCC) as the seed, were compared between T2DM patients and HCs. Pearson's correlation analysis was performed to determine the relationship between the FC of PCC and the clinical indicators., Results: Compared with HC, woCIMC-T2DM patients showed significantly decreased FCs with PCC (PCC-FCs) in the anterior cingulate cortex (ACC), right superior frontal gyrus, right medial frontal gyrus, and right angular gyrus. Meanwhile, increased PCC-FCs was observed in the right superior temporal gyrus and calcarine fissure (CAL). The FC of PCC-ACC was negatively correlated with glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) and diabetes duration, and the FC of PCC-CAL was significantly positively correlated with HbA1c and diabetes duration., Conclusion: The FC, especially of the PCC with cognitive and visual brain regions, was altered before clinically measurable cognitive impairment and microvascular complications occurred in T2DM patients. In addition, the FC of the PCC with cognitive and visual brain regions was correlated with HbA1c and diabetes duration. Haze pollution is inseparable from the transformation of air pollutants especially the ammonium and sulfate. Chemical and physical processes play important roles in this transformation. However, the role of microbial processes has rarely been studied. In this report, we applied the cultivation-independent metagenomic approach to study airborne microorganisms, investigating the potential microbial-catalyzed transformation of ammonium and sulfate in PM 2.5 samples. Functional genes predict that airborne microorganisms have the potential to catalyze ammonium formation but not ammonium oxidation since no ammoxidation genes were identified. We also found that the frequency of sulfate-forming genes was 1.56 times of those for sulfate-reducing genes. It was speculated that microbial metabolisms in the atmosphere could contribute to the accumulation of ammonium and sulfate. With the increase of PM 2.5 concentration, the frequency of functional genes and the relative abundance of genera which involved in nitrogen and sulfur metabolisms increased. That suggested air pollution was conducive to the microbial-mediated formation of ammonium and sulfate. Microorganisms are ubiquitous in the atmosphere, where they can disperse for a long distance. However, it remains poorly understood how these airborne microorganisms vary and which factors influence the microbial distribution in different anthropogenic activity regions. To explore the regional differences of bacteria and fungi in airborne particles, PM 2.5 and PM 10 samples were collected in the urban and rural areas of Hangzhou. The bacterial and fungal communities in the urban atmosphere was more similar to each other than those in the rural atmosphere. Analyses conducted by the concentration weighted trajectory model demonstrated that the local environment contributed more to the similarity of airborne bacteria and fungi compared with the atmospheric transport. The concentrations of local air pollutants (PM 2.5 , PM 10 , NO 2 , SO 2 and CO) were positively correlated with the similarity of the bacterial and fungal communities. Additionally, the concentrations of these air pollutants in the urban site were about 1.5 times than those in the rural site. This implicated that anthropogenic activity, which is the essential cause of air pollutants, influenced the similarity of airborne bacteria and fungi in the urban area. To better understand the relationship between the environmental variables and microbial communities of activated sludge, we took winter samples from different biological treatment units (anaerobic, oxic, etc) from the WWTP's of a number of Chinese cities. Differences in influent organic components and activated sludge microbial communities were identified by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry and high-throughput sequencing technology, respectively. Liquid nitrogen grinding pretreatment of samples was found to aid in the obtaining of a more bio-diversified sample. Influent type and dissolved oxygen concentration influenced the activated sludge microbial community structure. Nitrospira, Caldilineaceae and Anaerolineaceae were highly related to domestic wastewater treatment systems, whereas Thauera was the most abundant putative refractory aromatic hydrocarbon decomposer found in industrial wastewater treatment systems. Within the influent composition, we speculate that Thauera, Macellibacteroides and Desulfomicrobium are the key functional genera of the anaerobic environment of the textile dyeing industry wastewater treatment systems, whilst Thauera and Thiobacillus are key functional microbes in fine chemical wastewater treatment systems.

Continuous chemical pollution is one of the most serious environmental problems in the Jiaojiang Estuary of the East Sea (China). This chemical pollution has significantly changed the estuarine environmental conditions and may have profoundly influenced the distribution of anammox bacterial communities in this estuary. Here, we investigated the influence of chemical pollution on the community composition, diversity and abundance of anammox bacteria in Jiaojiang estuarine sediments. Phylogenetic analysis of 16S rRNA genes showed that the majority of anammox bacterial sequences retrieved from the estuarine intertidal sediments were associated with Kuenenia. In contrast, different anammox communities composed of Brocadia, Kuenenia, Scalindua and Jettenia were found in the estuarine subtidal sediments. Redundancy analysis (RDA) indicated that the sediment nitrobenzene and organic content had significant impacts on the distribution of anammox communities in the intertidal sediments. Pearson correlation analysis showed that the diversity of anammox bacteria in the intertidal sediments was positively correlated with the organic content. In contrast, RDA results showed that the nitrobenzene content, NO(3)(-) concentration and salinity significantly influenced the distribution of anammox communities in the subtidal sediments. The diversity and relative abundance of anammox bacteria in the subtidal sediments were positively correlated with NO(3)(-) concentration.

Qiantang River, a subwatershed of the Yangzi River, in China, is one of the main rivers in Zhejiang province. Because the Qiantang River is polluted as a result of urbanization and industrialization, its biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) concentration is increasing gradually, so that it is necessary to use versatile water quality models to assess the BOD concentration and make policies for pollution control. The QUAL2K model was applied to evaluate the spatial distribution of BOD in the Qiantang River. It was calibrated and validated using the data between 2000 and 2004 as a low-flow condition. Wastewater quantity, curtailed 25%, and a BOD level below 30.0 mg/L were simulated using this model. It was found that wastewater treatment is an effective method to reduce BOD content in the Qiantang River during a low-flow period. Also, the results suggest that BOD total maximum daily loads should be established to control pollution effectively. The QUAL2K model can provide the basic knowledge for water quality assessment in this area.
