Abstract

Researchers from Islamic Azad University in Tehran, Iran have developed a simple colorimetric method using gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) for the simultaneous determination of tamsulosin and dutasteride in pharmaceutical formulations. The aggregation of citrate-capped AuNPs resulted in a color change from red to gray, and the absorbance shifted from 524 to 674 nm. The method was validated and found to have good linearity and low limits of detection and quantitation. Neural network and fuzzy inference system models were used for simultaneous estimation, and the results were compared to high-performance liquid chromatography. Abstract

Studies on the blood of patients with prostate cancer using Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS) and corona protein size changes have shown that this test is highly specific and sensitive, but this method has not been studied in Iran, and therefore this study intends to perform this procedure using gold nanoparticles in prostate cancer detection. Blood samples of 60 male subjects aged 40–90 years were collected from 20 healthy, 20 benign and 20 prostate cancer patients. Optical scattering changes were measured by the level of gold nanoparticles mixed with these sera, and the responses were compared with the PSA index (Prostate Specific Antigen) of the subjects. Results of D2/D1 ratio analysis were performed using SPSS statistical software R. No significant differences were found in the size of the corona protein structure between the three groups of males with cancer, males with benign tumor, and healthy males. No correlation was found between the light scattering concentration and PSA serum level Due to changes in ambient temperature, prolonged test duration or high IgG levels in apparently healthy individuals, this test is not feasible in Iran. Performing this test requires advanced equipment to maintain the same temperature that do not exist in Iran. DLS also has major limitations for prostate cancer detection, so it cannot be a simple and accurate method for the early detection of prostate cancer, and it is suggested that other methods be used to diagnose. Abstract

Background and Objectives: According to Islamic doctrines, the use of gold for men has been banned. In general, any advised subject in Islam is useful for the body and what has definitely forbidden for a man is definitely harmful for him although its reasons have not been exactly specified. However, Muslims believe that there is certainly a sound reason behind this prohibition. This issue was studied in vitro on fertile men in the city of Babol by means of gold Nano particles. Methods: A total seminal fluid from 20 healthy individual volunteers from the city of Babol whose fertility had been approved was examined for the gold content through atomic absorption at the wavelength of 242.8nm with Hollow gold cathode lamp. Prior to analyzing all the collected samples, they were put into a mixture of thick citrate and per chloric acids at a ratio of 1 to 6. Results: In the samples studied, the amount of gold in the semen was found to be in the range of 0.32 to 1.92 µg/ml with a mean value 0.89 µg/ml and the standard deviation of 0.61µg/ml. Conclusion: In the present study, the existing gold in the full seminal fluid was estimated after complete digestion. (oxidation of organic materials; so the amount of identified gold and the plasma levels of semen were separated like sperm). Therefore, the hypothesis of the presence of gold in sperm seems to be true. Due to the scarcity of articles in this regard and the previous studies, it seems that more studies are needed in order to shed light on the role of the gold on men's fertility. From the viewpoint of Islam, this study proved the presence of gold in seminal fluid. In addition, the decrease in sperm movement after the influx of gold shows the forbiddance of old for men. Abstract

The aim of our study was to examine the different concentrations of AuNPs as a new antimicrobial substance to control the pathogenic activity. The extracellular synthesis of AuNPs performed by using Phoma sp. as an endophytic fungus. Endophytic fungus was isolated from vascular tissue of peach trees (Prunus persica) from Baft, located in Kerman province, Iran. The UltraViolet-Visible Spectroscopy (UV–Vis spectroscopy) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy provided the absorbance peak at 526 nm, while the X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy images released the formation of spherical AuNPs with sizes in the range of 10–100 nm. The findings of inhibition zone test of Au nanoparticles (AuNPs) showed a desirable antifungal and antibacterial activity against phytopathogens including Rhizoctonia solani AG1-IA (AG1-IA has been identified as the dominant anastomosis group) and Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae. The highest inhibition level against sclerotia formation was 93% for AuNPs at a concentration of 80 μg/mL. Application of endophytic fungus biomass for synthesis of AuNPs is relatively inexpensive, single step and environmentally friendly. In vitro study of the antifungal activity of AuNPs at concentrations of 10, 20, 40 and 80 μg/mL was conducted against rice fungal pathogen R. solani to reduce sclerotia formation. The experimental data revealed that the Inhibition rate (RH) for sclerotia formation was (15, 33, 74 and 93%), respectively, for their corresponding AuNPs concentrations (10, 20, 40 and 80 μg/mL). Our findings obviously indicated that the RH strongly depend on AuNPs rates, and enhance upon an increase in AuNPs rates.
