The article presents a study on the knowledge and attitudes of Mexican mothers regarding the non-acceptance of the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine for their daughters. The study reveals that lack of information and misinformation are key factors contributing to the non-acceptance of the vaccine. Additionally, misconceptions, lack of knowledge about HPV and the vaccine, and structural factors were identified as barriers to vaccination. The importance of nursing interventions with relevant and impactful information to promote healthy behavior in mothers and their families is highlighted. [Extracted from the article]

Introduction: Public instances use indigenous languages in communications about COVID-19; but the availability of such materials is still very limited and sometimes are not accessible enough. Objective: To generate health communications according to the reality of the most numerous indigenous group in Mexico, the maya. Methodology: We conformed a multidisciplinary working team, and to identify the necessities of information, we performed a search for official materials and a survey in Mayan communities. We generated and adjusted the communications considering linguistic and sociocultural conditions. Results: All products were spoken in maya because the majority of maya speakers do not read in their language. We generated three videos and a podcast series of six episodes, in digital format and for traditional radio. They include general health information and topics with limited coverage in maya language. Conclusion: With our communication materials, we expect to contribute to equity in information about COVID-19 and to make more visible the importance of maya language in health messages. Aim. Adolescent pregnancy is a problem in Latin America that requires the implementation of effective interventions. This study describes the adaptation process of Computer Assisted Motivational Intervention (CAMI) for increasing contraceptive use and reducing subsequent pregnancies in the context of adolescent mothers in Northern Mexico. Methods. The McKleroy Intervention Adaptation Model was applied: 1) assessment of the local context; 2) evaluation of the intervention with experts; 3) preparation of the content, activities and materials; 4) pilot testing of the adapted version; and 5) implementation, with an exploratory and descriptive design. Results. The CAMI-Spa version was obtained with modifications and a favorable trend in scores on contraceptive variables (pretest vs. posttest) as attitude [120.67(SD ± 12.36) vs. 138.40(SD ± 7.20)], knowledge [28.00(SD ± 8.76) vs 44.00(SD ± 8.49)], processes of change [78.67(SD ± 20.83) vs 108.60(SD ± 9.21)] and self-efficacy [43.00(SD ± 10.37) vs 56.80(SD ± 17.38)]. Conclusion. The use of an intervention adaptation model allowed for the adjustment of the intervention to the context of Mexican adolescent mothers without affecting its key components, which could ensure the effect on increased contraceptive use. Objectives. Mexico's 2018 Report Card evaluates the opportunities available for Mexican children and youth to reach healthy levels of physical activity, sleep, and sedentary behavior. Methods. The Report Card is a surveillance system that gathers data from national surveys, censuses, government documents, websites, grey literature, and published studies to evaluate 16 indicators in four categories: Daily Behaviors; Physical Fitness; Settings and Sources of Influence; and Strategies and Investments. Data were compared to established benchmarks. Each indicator was assigned a grade from 1 - 10 (< 6 is a failing grade) or "incomplete" if data was insufficient/unavailable. Results. Daily Behavior grades were: Overall Physical Activity, 4; Organized Sport Participation, 5; Active Play, 3; Active Transportation, 5; Sleep, 7; and Sedentary Behavior, 3. Physical Fitness, received a 7. Settings and Sources of Influence grades were: Family and Peers, incomplete; School, 3; and Community and Environment, 4. Strategies and Investments were: Government Strategies, 6; and Non-Government Organizations, 2. Conclusion. Low grades in 11 of the 16 indicators indicate that schools, families, communities, and government need to work together to improve physical activity opportunities for children and youth in Mexico. Objective. To assess the informational, educational and instrumental environments among Mexican healthcare settings for their potential to promote physical activity (PA). Materials and methods. The Environmental Physical Activity Assessment Tool for Healthcare Settings (EPATHS) was developed to assess the PA environments of 40 clinics/ hospitals representing the three Mexican healthcare systems in Guadalajara. The EPATHS assessed the presence and quality of PA enhancing features in the informational (e.g. signage), educational (e.g. pamphlets), and instrumental (e.g. stairs) environments of included clinics/hospitals. Results. 28 (70%) clinics/hospitals had more than one floor with stairs; 60% of these had elevators. Nearly 90% of stairs were visible, accessible and clean compared to fewer than 30% of elevators. Outdoor spaces were observed in just over half (55%) of clinics/ hospitals, and most (70%) were of good quality. Only 25% clinics/hospitals had educational PA materials. Conclusions. Introduction: Malnutrition, in the early stages, is crucial to affectations on growth and development; it is considered, that lack of knowledge is the main trigger. Objective: To assess the impact of an educational intervention program toward changing knowledge, attitudes and practices about nutrition for children aged less than 10 years. Materials and Methods: Evaluation study, quantitative model, using the Precede-proceed metodology. The design was quasi-experimental, type pretest - posttest, without control group; it was developed with 18 mothers from La Colorada (Tunja, Boyacá); intervention used methodological approaches based on learning to doing, using elements of social communication, through theoretical and practical activities of community participation. Results: At the onset of the process, was found prevalence of chronic malnutrition was 33.3%, 22.2% had overall malnutrition; possible risk factors associated with malnutrition: mother's age since 21 to 25 years (p = .025); being single (p = .02); low intake of foods as vegetables (p = .029), milk or derivates (p = .001), fat (p = .006). The educational program favored positively and significant changes regarding nutrition knowledge (p <.01), attitudes (p = .001) and practices with increased consumption of protein (p = 0.014). Discussion: Current results allow us to infer that is required of prompt and productive interventions, based on pedagogical and methodological partnerships to overcoming seen limitations. Conclusions: Beneficial impact expressed in quantitative changes in knowledge, attitudes and practices that could result in some degree of acceptance of the program by participating mothers. Objective. To describe the process of capacity building of an elementary school in Mexico City to promote healthy diet, physical activity and obesity preventive measures, within the Health Promoting School (HPS) initiative, underpinned by a human functioning approach. Materials and methods. The project of HPS had a methodological design of participatory action research, which was adapted and integrated to a participatory method of planning-action-evaluation with a model of collaborative and group learning; thus narrative was defined as a strategy. Results. The participation of children in the process contributed to the development of a set of capabilities related to school performance, socialization, coexistence, diet, physical activity and others related to health in general. Conclusions. The HPS enhances the development of individual and collective capacities of school-aged children that allows them to achieve favorable performances for their health, including diet and physical activity. Objective. This study explored the intervention effect of the "Nutrition on the Go" strategy on the prevalence of overweight and obesity (OW+O), according to the role played by different patterns. Materials and methods. Pattern Groups (PG) were determined based on schools' food availability and other variables at individual level: nutrition knowledge, physical activity, socioeconomic level and self-efficacy, using an ecological approach. The PG classification was achieved using Ward's cluster method. Results. The prevalence of OW+O was higher in PG1 (intermediate food availability and high socioeconomic index [SEI]) compared to PG 2 (high availability of food and lower SEI) and PG 3 (low availability of food and medium SEI) with a lower prevalence (p<0.001). The PG-intervention interaction showed differences for PG 3 (p=0.066), the stage-PG interaction showed differences between PGs 1 and 3 (p=0.014) and between PGs 2 and 3 (p=0.055). Conclusions. Objective. To evaluate the results of the training provided by the National Public Health Institute (INSP per its abbreviation in Spanish) in health promotion to institutional staff of local health services during 2007 and 2008. Materials and methods. A non-experimental evaluative research with comparison group was conducted, in which quantitative and qualitative methods were used. Results. In states intervened a better conceptualization of health promotion, social participation and components of the Health Promotion Operating Model was observed; participatory action research was the basic strategy to work in the community and management showed a tendency to be more participatory and inclusive. Conclusion. A better conceptualization of health promotion has allowed health personnel develop more sustainable work processes in the community and has driven the search for consent and participatory management. Objective: to evaluate by means of the development of an index the protection and health promotion in Mexico. Methods: an ecological study with data from the 32 Mexican states was carried out; seven representative indicators of protection and health promotion proposed by the World Health Organization were selected and collected through the Mexican health system and the Pan American Health Organization, and a main components analysis was performed (varimax rotation). (Results: The states of Coahuila, Nayarit, Colima, Nuevo León, Tamaulipas and Tabasco obtained the highest position within the health protection and promotion index in Mexico. While Oaxaca, Chiapas, Quintana Roo, Puebla, Guerrero and Yucatan showed the lowest health protection and promotion index. Conclusions: the estimate of an index like the one proposed for the set of states in Mexico will approach the current knowledge of the regional inequality that exists in health and social opportunities and, also, will help understand and analyze the situation in which the country subsists and to clarify important aspects of this approach conceptual framework which is equity in health. Background: Ocular trauma is one of the leading causes of decreased visual acuity and monocular blindness in the pediatric population. Since its occurrence is potentially preventable, it is essential to understand its demographic characteristics and risk factors to alert and implement prevention and health promotion programs., Methods: We conducted a retrospective study in which we reviewed 187 clinical records of patients ≤ 15 years old with the diagnosis of severe ocular trauma admitted in 2017 to the Hospital Civil de Guadalajara. We analyzed demographic variables, circumstances of the event, type of treatment, and the evolution of visual acuity and complications., Results: In total, 187 patients and 188 eyes were included; the average age was 6.99 ± 4.1 years. Children of 2 to 5 years of age (41%) were the most affected, and a higher occurrence was observed in males (73%). Open ocular trauma was the most common type of injury (72.7%) caused by sharp objects (45.4%). Most injuries occurred at home (78.1%), without adult supervision (48.1%), and during leisure time (74.9%). Most events were accidental (80.4%), although 12.3% were direct aggression. Surgery was required in 179 patients, in whom corneal injury repair (43.2%) was the most commonly used procedure. Final visual acuity was quantified in 132 eyes, and visual acuity < 20/200 was found in 18.1%. Loss of 4.2% of the eyeballs was recorded., Conclusions: The highest proportion of cases was identified in male patients ≤5 years old, unsupervised by an adult. Many eye injuries are preventable, so it is necessary to implement socio-educational programs in alliance with pediatric organizations that alert the severity of the problem and promote safe environments., (Copyright: © 2022 Permanyer.)

Objective. To present the results of the nutritional component of a Health Promoting School (HPS) project, on the nutritional status of children in an elementary school. Materials and methods. An HPS intervention was designed using children's narrative and participatory action research methodology. Body mass index was utilized to assess nutritional status. Results. In school children the prevalence of excess weight (overweight plus obesity) decreased significantly (p<0.001) after the intervention. Conclusions.
