The article presents a study on the outbreaks of spironucleosis in farmed Atlantic salmon, Salmo salar, in northern Norway. It says that the outbreaks were from smolts that came from the same farm after it was found that an outbreak of systemic spirnucleosis in farmed Arctic char showed that the parasite from the gall bladder of wild Arctic char was genetically different from those causing systemic disease in farmed fish through electron microscopy. It explains that through molecular methods, Spironucleus salmonicida, a diplomonad flagellate that causes systemic infections in farmed salmonids, are also present in wild salmonids who serve as reservoir hosts of the diplomonad flagellate.

The article discusses about the impact of the contraction of pathogen Mycobacterium salmonphilum in burbot, a fish species common in Norway. The pathogen can cause the disease piscine mycobacteriosis, known as fish tuberculosis, on salmonid fish species. Results of the study show that sampled numbers of burbot from lakes Mjøsa and Losna in Norway from 2005 to 2008 had a fish tuberculosis prevalence of 18.6 and 3.3 percent, respectively, wherein the factors that are connected with the infection include skin ulceration, acid-fast bacilli, and cataract.

The article discusses findings of research that shows how cardiomyopathy syndrome (CMS) in Atlantic salmon can be transmitted under experimental conditions. Inducing the histopathological lesions on Atlantic salmon was done through injections of tissue homogenate from fish diagnosed with CMS. Outbreaks of CMS among Atlantic salmon was first discovered in Norway in 1985, and is characterized by the inflammation and necrosis of endocardium and spongy myocardium in the atrium ventricle. The study demonstrates that injecting tissue homogenate is sufficient to develop the cardiac lesions that are common to CMS regardless of the age or size of the fish.
