In recent decades, many European governments have passed pension reforms to incentivise participation in private pension plans. However, we still have minimal understanding of whether participation in such plans is concentrated in certain groups or spread uniformly across society, or what their stability over time is. To illuminate the social selectivity of these plans and potential changes in that selectivity over time, we analyse six waves of the Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe (SHARE) in ten European countries: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland. Specifically, we focus on participation gaps in individual and occupational plans of workers across six dimensions: gender, education, age, social class, income, and risk preference. The results indicate large and persistent social divides in participation rates. As expected, rates are significantly higher among workers who are not close to retirement, those with an upper service occupation and those with high income. Importantly, these divides did not shrink significantly over the period considered – 2006 to 2021. Social selectivity is not consistently smaller in contexts of more mature private pension provision, whereas it is consistently smaller in countries with more generous public pensions. The present study investigates the psychometric properties and cut‐off scores of a Swedish version of the Negative Acts Questionnaire, the most frequently used instrument to measure exposure to workplace bullying. Based on a probability sample of the Swedish workforce (n = 1853), we investigate the validity of both the full version (NAQ–R) and the short version (SNAQ). We suggest optimal cut‐offs for the NAQ–R and SNAQ, and for the subscales measuring work‐ and person‐related bullying. Based on the cut‐off scores we provide estimates of prevalence in a Swedish context. The factor structure and psychometric properties are comparable to the Norwegian original and the English versions of the instrument. We also tested the criterion validity using 11 outcome and antecedent variables to bullying, and all provided support for its validity. The identified cut‐off scores differentiate clearly when tested against the 11 variables used to test criterion validity in the study. The results showed that the Swedish version of the NAQ–R, including the SNAQ, is a valid measure of workplace bullying. To our knowledge, this study is the first study presenting statistical cut‐offs for the NAQ‐R subscales as well as investigating both the NAQ‐R and the SNAQ simultaneously. The present study also provides some criticism against and suggestions for improving the NAQ–R, aiming to capture even more of the overall experience of exposure, ability to defend oneself, overall duration, and on‐ and offline exposure. Background: Artificial intelligence (AI) holds significant promise for enhancing the efficiency and safety of medical history-taking and triage within primary care. However, there remains a dearth of knowledge concerning the practical implementation of AI systems for these purposes, particularly in the context of healthcare leadership. This study explores the experiences of healthcare leaders regarding the barriers to implementing an AI application for automating medical history-taking and triage in Swedish primary care, as well as the actions they took to overcome these barriers. Furthermore, the study seeks to provide insights that can inform the development of AI implementation strategies for healthcare. Methods: We adopted an inductive qualitative approach, conducting semi-structured interviews with 13 healthcare leaders representing seven primary care units across three regions in Sweden. The collected data were subsequently analysed utilizing thematic analysis. Our study adhered to the Consolidated Criteria for Reporting Qualitative Research to ensure transparent and comprehensive reporting. Results: The study identified implementation barriers encountered by healthcare leaders across three domains: (1) healthcare professionals, (2) organization, and (3) technology. The first domain involved professional scepticism and resistance, the second involved adapting traditional units for digital care, and the third inadequacies in AI application functionality and system integration. To navigate around these barriers, the leaders took steps to (1) address inexperience and fear and reduce professional scepticism, (2) align implementation with digital maturity and guide patients towards digital care, and (3) refine and improve the AI application and adapt to the current state of AI application development. Conclusion: The study provides valuable empirical insights into the implementation of AI for automating medical history-taking and triage in primary care as experienced by healthcare leaders. It identifies the barriers to this implementation and how healthcare leaders aligned their actions to overcome them. While progress was evident in overcoming professional-related and organizational-related barriers, unresolved technical complexities highlight the importance of AI implementation strategies that consider how leaders handle AI implementation in situ based on practical wisdom and tacit understanding. This article makes a case for the usefulness of the concept of reciprocity for studying integration. Conceptually, the article draws on a wide disciplinary specter of theories on reciprocity and gift-giving. Concerned with the individual and societal effects of the mutual acts of giving, receiving, and reciprocating, such theories allow to visibilize the value(s) that is created and exchanged through reciprocal relations, and highlight the social and cultural embeddedness of reciprocal norms. Empirically, the article draws on fieldwork inquiries into the value landscape of the integration sector in Sweden. Aside from explicit values, such as gender equality, democracy, or nondiscrimination, the importance of acts of giving, receiving, and reciprocating has manifested itself as a strong, albeit implicit value in the material. Prompted by this insight, this article highlights the ideas and expectations of reciprocal relations that the integration workers reflected on. This study investigates prescriptive (how women and men should be) and proscriptive (how women and men should not be) gender stereotypes in Sweden and how these stereotypes relate to self‐ascribed gendered traits. In an online survey with students at three major universities (N = 679) it was found that participants believed that the societal view was that women should be more communal than men, but less dominant and men should be more agentic than women, but less weak. In comparison, self‐ratings only differed for communion, such that women rated themselves as more communal than men (there were no differences in self‐ratings of agency, dominance, or weakness). Thus, prescriptive and proscriptive stereotypes and self‐views differed. Women mainly perceived differences between self‐ratings and prescriptions of communion, whereas men mainly perceived differences between self‐ratings and prescriptions of agency. Moreover, women mainly perceived differences between self‐ratings and proscriptions of dominance, and men mainly perceived differences between self‐ratings and proscriptions of weakness. Hence, both women and men perceive larger gaps between self‐evaluations and societally desired and undesired gender stereotypical traits. Despite the widely-recognized importance of student housing in educational settings, the housing experience of university students remains understudied. This study attempts to assess the residential satisfaction in student housing in Stockholm, Sweden and the indicators which predict residential satisfaction in this context. Moreover, it explores whether residential satisfaction varies between different socio-demographic groups. A list of satisfaction indictors was identified through reviewing literature and a number of semi-structured interviews, thereafter data was collected from a questionnaire survey with simple random sampling. The responses were analysed through descriptive analysis, stepwise regression, t-test and analysis of variance. The results show that the current occupants are generally satisfied with the student housing in Stockholm. Seven indicators appear to be predictors of satisfaction, among which the strongest ones are kitchen facilities, cleanliness and accessibility to public transport stations. In terms of socio-demographic characteristics, those with a shorter residential duration are found to be more satisfied. Furthermore, studio residents are more satisfied than corridor-room residents. Aim: This study aimed to explore the experiences of being a clinical research nurse (CRN), in Sweden. Design: A qualitative study analysing individual interview data. Methods: Interviews with 10 participants were conducted in April 2017 and repeated with five participants in May 2022. A semi‐structured interview guide was used to cover topics such as experiences of working in a new role and professional challenges related to the role. The transcribed interviews were analysed inductively using qualitative content analysis. Results: The main theme revealed that the CRNs experienced their work role as being like a hub in a wheel, using an ethical compass, but without real power. The six themes identified showed that CRNs worked independently and relied on clinical experiences as nurses but needed more education. They not only had a sense of duty but also too large responsibilities. Furthermore, they viewed their work as valuable and important. However, they needed an accentuated ethical compass and were also affected by power relations that negatively impacted work. Conclusion: Working as a CRN means being in a central position and working independently, which requires diverse skills and competencies. CRNs, however, face and manage complex ethical and practical challenges without real power. They experience huge responsibilities but need education and acknowledgement, indicating a need for improvement. This is an important message to stakeholders and managers about the necessity of taking adequate action to support CRNs who are crucial resources in clinical research. Aim: To describe intensive care nurses' conceptions of participating during the donation after circulatory death (DCD) process in intensive care units in Sweden. Design: A qualitative design with a phenomenographic approach. Methods: In total, 12 semi‐structured interviews were conducted in April 2022 with intensive care nurses from three hospitals. Data were analysed using a phenomenographic approach. Results: Conceptions of participating during the DCD process varied. Four main themes emerged: DCD as a system; Intensive care nurses' role in the situation; Life to death to life; The essence of DCD. Variations emerged regarding what the informants talked about and how they talked about the what. Variations were based on informants' perspective of their role in relation to the structure and the team, and their conceptions of care for patients and their relatives. Conclusion: The findings illustrated success factors and challenges. Knowledge, experience, distinct structure, and relationship with relatives, among other factors, were described as success factors, while a lack of experience, difficulty in prognosing death, and organisational obstacles emerged as challenges. Furthermore, the findings showed that intensive care nurses play an important role in optimising the outcome of the DCD process. Their work related to DCD was conceived as being meaningful to fulfil more peoples' wishes to donate organs. Impact: People on the waiting list for organ transplantation are dying due to a shortage of organs. The implementation of DCD, as a complement to Donation after Brain Death (DBD), contributed to an increase in the number of organ donors, and intensive care nurses play an important role during the DCD process. Previous research manifests the complexity concerning their role. There is a lack of nursing research regarding intensive care nurses' conceptions of what it means to participate in the DCD process, which emphasises the significance of this study. In Sweden, preventive support groups for children exposed to domestic violence, substance abuse or mental illness are provided by local child protection services (CPS). The stigma of parental problems and contact with CPS are barriers to recruiting children. This article investigates how such barriers are experienced and handled by professional support group leaders. The empirical data is drawn from five group interviews with 16 professionals, recruited from a purposive sample of nine local authorities in Sweden. It is found that professionals experience stigma as a barrier to recruiting children, mainly the parents' shame but also their fear of CPS involvement. Professionals describe parents' problems on a 'scale of shamefulness', ranging from divorce to domestic violence, and the barriers vary in strength relative to the shamefulness of the problem. Parents are gatekeepers for their children's participation, so destigmatizing and shame‐reducing strategies, whether on the interpersonal, organizational or structural level, are called for to increase children's access. Social trust is a moral resource with a normatively highly desirable pay-off. Previous research argues that universal welfare state programmes 'make' social trust whereas means-testing programmes 'break' it. Despite its important implications for welfare-state design, comparative longitudinal evidence for this hypothesis is scarce. To test whether within-country changes in social trust are associated with within-country changes in total, means-tested, and non-means tested social protection expenditure, I thus merge country-year specific ESSPROS welfare spending data with cross-country survey data from 30 countries that participated in the 2002–2019 European Social Survey. Results from multilevel regression models show that neither within-country changes in total nor means-tested or non-means tested social protection expenditure predict social trust. Based on insights from the welfare deservingness literature, the second part of my analysis concentrates on welfare spending directed at two different life-course risks, with sickness representing a risk that the public widely considers to be 'deserving' of welfare support, and unemployment acting as an 'undeserving' risk. I find that, within countries over time, means-tested healthcare expenditures predict decreases in social trust, whereas non-means tested healthcare expenditure is associated with increasing social trust. My results thus lend support for the hypothesis that welfare-state selectivity and universality can contribute to the making and breaking of social trust, but only when interventions target life-course risks that the public considers 'deserving' of welfare state support. Background: Continuity of care is viewed as a hallmark of high‐quality care in the primary care context. Measures to evaluate the quality of provider performance are scarce, and it is unclear how the assessments correlate with patients' experiences of care as coherent and interconnected over time, consistent with their preferences and care needs. Aim: To develop and evaluate a patient‐reported experience measure of continuity of care in primary care for patients with complex care needs. Method: The study was conducted in two stages: (1) development of the instrument based on theory and empirical studies and reviewed for content validity (16 patients with complex care needs and 8 experts) and (2) psychometric evaluation regarding factor structure, test–retest reliability, internal consistency reliability, and convergent validity. In all, 324 patients participated in the psychometric evaluation. Results: The Patient Experienced Continuity of care Questionnaire (PECQ) contains 20 items clustered in four dimensions of continuity of care measuring Information (four items), Relation (six items), Management (five items), and Knowledge (five items). Overall, the hypothesized factor structure was indicated. The PECQ also showed satisfactory convergent validity, internal consistency, and stability. Conclusion/Implications: The PECQ is a multidimensional patient experience instrument that can provide information on various dimensions useful for driving quality improvement strategies in the primary care context for patients with complex care needs. The three closely related COVID-19 outcomes of incidence, intensive care (IC) admission and death, are commonly modelled separately leading to biased estimation of the parameters and relatively poor forecasts. This paper presents a joint spatiotemporal model of the three outcomes based on weekly data that is used for risk prediction and identification of hotspots. The paper applies a pure spatiotemporal model consisting of structured and unstructured spatial and temporal effects and their interaction capturing the effects of the unobserved covariates. The pure spatiotemporal model limits the data requirements to the three outcomes and the population at risk per spatiotemporal unit. The empirical study for the 21 Swedish regions for the period 1 January 2020–4 May 2021 confirms that the joint model predictions outperform the separate model predictions. The fifteen-week-ahead spatiotemporal forecasts (5 May–11 August 2021) show a significant decline in the relative risk of COVID-19 incidence, IC admission, death and number of hotspots. Adolescents' school performance is influenced by several factors and meaningful leisure time, especially organized activities, has great potential to impact academic results. Therefore, this study aimed to gain a greater understanding of how community actors perceive meaningful leisure time and how they work to create meaningful leisure time with the intention of increasing the chances for more adolescents completing upper secondary school. Semistructured interviews with 14 informants, representing nine different community actors in a middle-sized city in Sweden, were conducted and analysed using content analysis. Results suggest that meaningful leisure time positively impacts adolescents' mental health through social relations, support, and guidance. Leisure is believed to have spillover effects on reducing stress, manage school demands and performance. Nevertheless, leisure time activities and school performance must be balanced with time and effort. Community actors work proactively with availability, individual approaches, and offering activities to create meaning. From a societal perspective, places to hang out with supportive adults, in particular structured activities, should be regarded as a social investment in adolescents' health and prospects, especially in deprived areas where fewer activities are available. This paper investigates the evolution of gender equality in Sweden during a phase characterized by industrialization, urbanization, and demographic transition. To this end, we build a database with quantitative indicators to construct a spatial Historical Gender Gap Index. We find that after a period of stagnation, Sweden made significant progress in closing the gender gap from the 1940s onward to reach the high level of gender equality that it is now famous for. The empirical exploration of the relationship between gender equality and economic development reveals that regions displaying higher gender equality performed economically better than less gender-equal regions. Understanding the development of behavioral and mental health issues among adolescents, particularly those from immigrant families, is a key area of concern. Many prior studies have focused on the role of societal (country-of-destination) language skills, but we know less about the role played by the use of the heritage language in families. We examined this latter relationship with a focus on changes in heritage language use and internalizing and externalizing problems, and how family relations moderate this relationship. We used the first two waves (2010/2011 and 2011/2012) of the Children of Immigrants Longitudinal Survey in Four European Countries (CILS4EU) data collected from Germany (n = 1614; Mage = 14.8 years, 50% female), the Netherlands (n = 1203; Mage = 14.7 years, 54% female), Sweden (n = 1794; Mage = 14.2 years, 53% female), and England (n = 1359; Mage = 14.6 years, 50% female). Our results suggest that increased use of heritage language is associated with fewer externalizing problems only in families with greater family cohesion and parental warmth (in Germany and the U.K.) and with fewer internalizing problems only in families with higher parental monitoring (in the Netherlands and Sweden). Good family relations are thus an important precondition for increased heritage language use to lead to improved behavioral and mental health for children of immigrants. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article aims to investigate the significance of leadership in the successful adoption of Six Sigma. It explores which leadership styles and attributes are more conducive to successful implementation, as not all Six Sigma efforts have been entirely successful. The objective of this research is to identify the key elements of leadership styles that contribute to the achievement of Six Sigma programs in the automobile industry, based on a study conducted by various authors. According to the study, approximately 60% of corporate Six Sigma initiatives fail due to assumptions and incorrect leadership attributes. The research utilized a research survey with a Likert scale questionnaire distributed to 2325 prospective participants, with 573 responses primarily from Germany, the United Kingdom, and Sweden. The study employed exploratory research approaches and a mixed‐method research design to analyze the impact of leadership style on the success of Six Sigma deployment. The findings identified two essential key elements of leadership style through various SEM methods (EFA and CFA): (1) Leadership support for Six Sigma as a long‐term improvement strategy is crucial for sustained growth. (2) Leadership commitment to the organization's suppliers and maintaining quality to ensure defect‐free products. The practical implications of this study can be adopted by institutions, practitioners, and researchers to incorporate these leadership traits for sustainable Six Sigma implementation. This study makes an original contribution to the assessment of leadership styles in the European automobile industry, utilizing a mixed‐method research design along with descriptive statistics. Introduction: Immigrant family caregivers are increasing worldwide, likewise the number of older people with dementia. Caring for a person with dementia is demanding, with the carer's own life put on hold. Immigrant family caregivers have been less studied. Therefore, the aim of this study was to explore immigrant family caregivers' experiences of living with an older person with dementia. Method: A qualitative approach was chosen, consisting of open‐ended interviews analysed using qualitative content analysis. The ethical principles of the Helsinki Declaration were applied in the study, which was duly approved by a regional ethics review board. Results: The content analysis resulted in three main categories: (i) the diverse roles of a family caregiver; (ii) the impact of language and culture on daily life and (iii) wish for support from society. Conclusions: Living with a person with dementia is demanding and burdensome and the consequences of working without any rest may increase social isolation and impair quality of life. Immigrants and country‐born family caregivers living with a person with dementia seem to have similar care experiences, but immigrant family caregivers seem to receive help rather late due to a lack of information about the services available, language barriers and to financial reasons. A wish for support earlier on in the caring process was expressed, likewise for care services in the participants' native language. The various Finnish associations and peer support were important sources of information about support services. Together with culturally adjusted care services, these could contribute to better access to care, to quality and to equal care. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In Sweden, local authorities are encouraged to cooperate with civil society to promote resilience to violent extremism. However, some (mostly Muslim) organisations are approached with suspicion and sometimes accused of not subscribing to basic democratic principles. Along with cooperation and resilience, suspicion seems to be a recurrent and global theme in the relationship between the prevention of violent and hateful extremism (VHE) and civil society. This paper builds on empirical research by the author and others, which examined how NGOs and FBOs operating within Sweden conducted and were challenged by preventive work. The paper compares results from the Swedish study against findings from international humanitarian-development NGOs via a scoping study to examine the similar and different dynamics around cooperation, resilience, and suspicion in prevention of VHE. Children's language background relates to their neurocognitive development. Knowledge of this relationship is important as bilingualism is common. However, research regarding language background in relation to performance on cognitive tests such as the WPPSI‐IV and NEPSY‐II is scarce. The present study compared WPPSI‐IV and NEPSY‐II performances between 5‐ and 6‐year‐old Swedish‐speaking monolingual (n = 45) and Swedish‐Finnish‐speaking simultaneous bilingual (n = 34) children in Finland. The participants were gathered by stratified sampling and were assessed with the Swedish versions of the tests. In profile analyses, a significant monolingual advantage was found in some WPPSI‐IV subtests and indexes requiring expressive vocabulary (Vocabulary, Similarities, Picture Naming, and Vocabulary Acquisition Index) and visuospatial skills (Object Assembly and Visual Spatial Index). No group differences were found between mono‐ and bilingual children in receptive language, visual memory, or fluid intelligence. Additionally, no differences were found on the Full Scale IQ. The performance on the WPPSI‐IV Similarities subtest improved in a subgroup of bilinguals when answers in both Swedish and Finnish were accounted for, instead of accepting only answers in Swedish. No significant differences were found between mono‐ and bilinguals on the language and memory tasks of NEPSY‐II. These findings highlight the importance of considering the child's language background when assessing expressive language in young children, as well as the benefits of assessing bilinguals in both of their languages. Background. Dementia not only has a negative effect on a person's well-being, but it also affects the well-being of their relatives. In this study, we examined how relatives perceive the well-being of people with dementia who live in nursing homes and how nursing staff contribute to the well-being of the residents they care for. Method. A qualitative study with a phenomenographic approach was applied. Ten individual semistructured interviews were conducted, five in Sweden and five in Hungary. In this study, the COREQ checklist for qualitative studies was followed. Results. The perceptions relatives had of what constituted well-being resulted in five categories of factors that could impact negatively or positively on a person's well-being: "Nursing care is adapted to the needs of the person with dementia," "Nursing is carried out by a sustainable care team," "The social needs of the person with dementia are met," "The person with dementia participates in meaningful activities," and "The person with dementia shows signs of feeling well." Conclusion. From relatives'' perspective, well-being can be created for people with dementia if nursing is person-centred and managers allow staff more time to socialize with the person with dementia. Relatives are essential cooperative partners in person-centred dementia care. Relevance to clinical practice. Person-centred care is essential. Relatives, nurses, and managers are important partners in making it possible. Competence in dementia and knowledge of values and ethics are needed to provide autonomy and well-being. Aim: This qualitative study aimed to explore the experience of being family caregivers of patients treated for oesophageal cancer 2 years after treatment. To better understand the family caregiver's situation, a conceptual model was used in the analysis. The results of the study can guide future interventions to support family caregivers of patients treated for oesophageal cancer. Design: A qualitative descriptive study using semi‐structured telephone interviews. An abductive approach was used in the analysis to reach deeper knowledge about the family caregivers' experiences and to better understand deeper patterns. Methods: A qualitative study was conducted and included 13 family caregivers of patients surgically treated for oesophageal cancer in Sweden in 2018 who participated in a population‐based nationwide cohort study. Individual telephone interviews were held in 2020, 2 years after the patients' surgery. The analysis of the interviews started with an inductive approach using thematic analysis. Thereafter, a deductive approach was used to interpret the findings in relation to the conceptual model, The Cancer Family Caregiving Experience. Results: The most essential/evident stress factors for the family caregivers were distress regarding the patients' nutrition, fear of tumour recurrence and worry about the future. In addition, a transition was experienced, going from a family member to a caregiver, and the many psychosocial aspects of this transition were highlighted during the disease trajectory. Conclusion: Despite, the long‐term survival of the patient, family caregivers were still struggling with psychosocial consequences because of the patient's cancer diagnosis and treatment. Furthermore, there is a need to improve supportive interventions for family caregivers during the whole disease trajectory. Impact The current study includes comprehensive information about the family caregivers' experiences when caring for a patient treated for oesophageal cancer. Family caregivers struggle with the psychosocial consequences of the patient's cancer and worry about tumour recurrence even 2 years after surgery. These findings can be useful in the development of supportive interventions, which may facilitate life for family caregivers. This archival study was the first in Sweden, and the first outside of the US and the UK, to apply the (Kelly et al., Psychology, Public Policy, and Law, 9, 165–178, 2013) taxonomy of interrogation methods framework to repeated police interrogations of adult suspects in high‐stakes crimes. Audio/video recordings (N = 19) were collected from the Swedish Police Authority of repeated interrogations of three suspects in three criminal cases. The interaction between interrogators and suspects were scored according to the taxonomy framework (Kelly et al., Psychology, Public Policy, and Law, 9, 165–178, 2013; Kelly et al., Law and Human Behavior, 40, 295–309, 2016). First, there was an association between the use of different domains. Rapport and relationship building was moderately and negatively associated with confrontation/competition and presentation of evidence. Moreover, confrontation/competition was moderately and positively related to emotion provocation and presentation of evidence. Second, changes were observed during the interrogations. Presentation of evidence was lower in the beginning than in the middle block. Suspect cooperation was higher in the beginning than both the middle and end blocks. Third, an ordered logistic regression showed that rapport and relationship building were associated with increased suspect cooperation, and confrontation/competition and presentation of evidence were associated with decreased cooperation. The study's results are mostly in line with other taxonomy studies on high‐stakes crimes from the US and the UK. This study examines disabled people's everyday experience of social exclusion in relation to the rapid growth of digital technologies in everyday practices. It highlights the relationships between the growing theoretical apparatus on how society changes with new digital technologies, and theories about how this might lead to new disabling barriers in the everyday lives of disabled people. To better understand disabled people's everyday experiences of social exclusion in the digital age, it brings together insights from two different fields: digital technology, mainly in digital social science and digital humanities; and disability studies, with a focus on the digital divide. The study draws on empirical observations, photographs and interviews with adults with various disabilities in Sweden, and analyses their everyday experiences with the help of a theoretical framework. To improve participation, it is critical to understand disabling barriers in a digital society. By bringing together digital technology and disability studies, it is possible to understand day-to-day contexts where there is potential for the digital divide to grow, especially for disabled people. Digital technologies designed for use in day-to-day life need to be more inclusive, and the barriers they create for individuals need to be understood before they are implemented. Digital technologies can construct disabling barriers in mundane contexts, even in some non-digital contexts where there is digital technology in the back-end, as for example, the internet of things. The concepts glass escalator and glass ceiling have been widely used in studies of gender and organisations. In this paper we propose a novel metaphor to describe and analyse gender segregation and discrimination, that of a glass funnel. This concept does not relate to men and women as groups in the sense of fixed collective entities, but rather shows how taken-for-granted distinctions between men and women are reiterated and promote men in a way that downgrades women. However, as gender intersects with other power structures, both men and women can be propelled downwards through the funnelling motion made up of a market-oriented devaluation of the healthcare profession. Through an empirical investigation of the community of practice and gender regime of an upper secondary healthcare education programme in Sweden, we develop the glass funnel concept, an analytical tool aiming to open up for intersectional analyses of healthcare education and work. The objective of the empirical research is to compare the revenues of the Romanian and Swedish state budgets in the period 2006-2021. In the course of the research, I thoroughly analyse the three main income groups: fiscal incomes, social security contributions and non-fiscal incomes, as well as the presentation of the main groups of fiscal incomes. This article elaborates on how sense of belonging is constructed over the life course of individuals by mapping out the affective and material dimensions of belonging in a translocal context. Specifically, it focuses on Turkish-born women who migrated to Sweden in their early to mid-adulthood and have lived in Sweden for 40 years on average. It asks how they make sense of their belonging as they age in Sweden and aims to shed light on the complex and fluid nature of translocal subjectivities. The empirical material consists of 20 in-depth semi-structured interviews with women aged 60 to 78. The analysis shows that belonging is informed by interconnected affective and material dimensions as individuals change and re-negotiate their situated life stories. Background: Swedish social policy enables ageing in place with support from home‐based care services despite high age and/or declining health. Aim: This study aims to describe the daily life experiences behind the decision to apply for a nursing home placement in older adults ageing in place. Materials and Methods: A qualitative design was chosen, and 11 semi‐structured interviews were conducted and analysed using inductive qualitative content analysis. Results: The participants described a feeling of dependence in which they had to ignore their personal privacy when receiving home‐based care. They reached a turning point when ageing in place was, for several reasons, no longer considered an acceptable option. This influenced their choice to apply to a nursing home where they expected that they could maintain control over their lives. Discussion and Conclusion: The results indicate that when enhancing ageing in place it is important to enable older adults to receive support to maintain autonomy in daily activities and to have the opportunity to age in the right place. Introduction: Needs within healthcare are changing and nurses require new skills and knowledge in global nursing. Student exchange programs in global contexts provide an opportunity to develop the necessary skills. Objective: The aim of this study was to describe Tanzanian nursing students' experiences of student exchange in Sweden. Methods: A qualitative design was used for this empirical study. Semistructured interviews were conducted with six Tanzanian nursing students who had participated in student exchange in Sweden. The participants were recruited by purposeful sampling. Inductive reasoning and qualitative content analysis were applied. Results: Four main themes were formed; new roles, experience a new culture, establish new competencies, and global work ambitions. The findings revealed that the students experienced new approaches in Sweden, giving them new competencies and understanding. Furthermore, they increased their global perspectives on nursing and interest in working with global health issues, but they also experienced challenges in the new environment. Conclusion: The present study showed that Tanzanian nursing students benefitted from their student exchange, both personally, as well as for their future careers as nurses. There is a trend worldwide to induce pregnant women earlier. However, few studies have focused on women's experiences. The aim was to gain a deeper understanding of women's lived experiences of induction of labour in late- and post-term pregnancy. Phenomenology with a reflective lifeworld approach was chosen as the method. Twelve women participating in a larger study in which women were randomized to either induction of labour in week 41 or to expectant management until week 42, were interviewed one to three months after giving birth. The essence is described as follows: labour becomes another journey than the intended one. The women adapted to this new journey by seeing the advantages and handing themselves over to the healthcare system, but at the same time something about giving birth could be lost. The result is further described by its four constituents: planning the unplannable, being a guest at the labour ward, someone else controlling the labour, and overshadowed by how it turned out. Induced labour presents a challenge to maternity personnel to support the birthing woman's normal progress, not to rush her through labour, and to involve her in the process. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Migrating women, have an overall increased risk of adverse outcomes and poorer health during pregnancy and childbirth. In addition, they do not participate in planned antenatal care to the same extent as natives. These disparities among migrants and native pregnant women point to the need for interventions to improve equal health and care during pregnancy and childbirth. This study aimed to explore the experiences of participating in a lifestyle intervention, named "Dancing for birth," focusing on integration and physical activity, from the perspectives of the participating pregnant women, midwives, and cultural interpreter doulas. Qualitative interviews were conducted from March 2019 to December 2020, with ten women who participated in a lifestyle intervention in Sweden: four pregnant women, three midwives, and three cultural interpreter doulas. Thematic analysis was used to analyse the data. The lifestyle intervention "Dancing for birth" provided positive shared Health-promoting experiences among the participants with social inclusivness and a commitment to supporting each other. This seemed to encourage the sense of strength as a woman- a strengthboth for the individual woman and as a kind of women´s power. Interventions targeting physical activity, social inclusiveness, and health literacy are of utmost importance in promoting positive pregnancy experiences and equal healthcare during pregnancy. To explore communication and engagement in everyday situations between persons with young-onset dementia (YOD) living in a nursing home (NH) and the caregivers. The study draws on ethnographic methods aligned with participatory design. Three residents with YOD living in a NH and eight staff members were recruited. A narrative approach was used for data collection and analysis. Three narrative vignettes were developed representing everyday situations in which communication and engagement was enacted among residents and caregiver staff: (a) waiting for something to happen, (b) tensions about everyday communication, and (c) negotiating a combined living + working environment. The findings stress a paradoxical tension rooted in the NH as residence and workplace as well as place of calm and place of boredom. The everyday situations are interpreted differently from the perspective of the residents and staff. The identified paradox of planned and spontaneous situations influences communication and engagement in everyday life, and the potentiality for active engagement embedded in contexts of units for residents with YOD. The degree to which everyday activities and encounters are redefined and renegotiated is an important part of caregiving practices in NH settings for residents with YOD. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Scholarly discussion suggests prevalent, overconfident use of attachment classifications in child protection (CP) investigations but no systematic research has examined actual prevalence, the methods used to derive such classifications, or their interpretations. We aimed to cover this gap using survey data from a nationally representative sample of Swedish CP workers (N = 191). Three key findings emerged. First, the vast majority formed an opinion about young children's attachment quality in all or most investigations. Second, most did not employ systematic assessments, and none employed well-validated attachment methods. Third, there was overconfidence in the perceived implications of attachment classifications. For example, many believed that insecure attachment is a valid indicator of insufficient care. Our findings illustrate a wide researcher-practitioner gap. This gap is presumably due to inherent difficulties translating group-based research to the level of the individual, poor dissemination of attachment theory and research, and infrastructural pressures adversely influencing the quality of CP investigations. The aim of this study was to describe and compare family members' experiences of approach in encounters with healthcare professionals and possible feelings of alienation in the professional care within four care contexts: the care of older people, psychiatric care, palliative care and diabetes care. The design was an explorative cross‐sectional survey study. Data were collected in Sweden using the Family Involvement and Alienation Questionnaire‐Revised (FIAQ‐R). It measures family members' experiences of the healthcare professionals' approach and the family members' feeling of alienation from the provision of professional care. A total of 1047 questionnaires were distributed to family members using convenient sampling method, of which 294 were included. Data were analysed using rank‐based, non‐parametric statistical methods. The results indicated that most respondents experienced a positive actual approach from the healthcare professionals. Many participants rated the importance of approach at a higher level than their actual experience. Participants in the context of diabetes care reported a more negative actual approach from the healthcare professionals than did participants in the other contexts and considered the healthcare professionals' approach towards them as being less important. The results for the entire group indicated that the participants felt a low level of alienation from the professional care. Participants in the context of the care of older people reported significantly lower level of feeling of being alienated than did participants in the contexts of psychiatric care and diabetes care. The differences between participants in diabetes care and other care contexts can possibly be explained by a more fully implemented self‐care approach among the patients in diabetes care than in the other care contexts. Even though the results are quite positive, it is still important that nurses consider a family‐centred approach to better adapt to the needs of both the family members and the patients. Background: Studies have reported on the important role of the clinical research nurse in clinical studies. Yet, there is no international consensus about the role's competencies and tasks. Furthermore, the literature offers a little description of the career pathway from a ward‐based registered nurse to a clinical research nurse. More knowledge about this specific role could benefit the nursing profession as well as increase the quality of clinical research. Aim: The aim of the study was to explore Swedish registered nurses' experiences transitioning into the clinical research nurse role. Design: The study had a qualitative design. Data were collected via semi‐structured interviews. Inductive qualitative content analysis was employed. Methods: Ten participants (i.e., clinical research nurses) were interviewed in the spring of 2017. A semi‐structured interview guide was used to address the transition into the clinical research nurse role, experience working in a new role, experience of ethical dilemmas and experience of organizational and professional issues related to the role. The interviews were analysed inductively using qualitative content analysis. Results: The registered nurses described experiencing reality shock when they became clinical research nurses; that is, it was a challenging and transforming experience. The main theme, a challenging transition, was developed from the four subthemes highlighting that it defied their previous nursing role. They experienced an unclear professional identity, extended professional mandate, increased professional status and growing ethical consciousness in their new role. Conclusion: The results highlight that registered nurses who became clinical research nurses had needs that were both distinct from and overlapped with those of their former professional role as registered nurses. To avoid reality shocks, the development of clear competence pathways for nurses to become clinical research nurses, including introduction, mentorship and continued support, is necessary. Making their professional title more homogeneous, nationally and internationally, would facilitate role identification and comparisons in research. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: The aim of this paper is to empirically describe and analyze factors deemed to be relevant for the successful provision of coordinated paediatric oncology care by physicians and nurses involved. Design/methodology/approach: A qualitative case study primarily consisting of interviews. Findings: The paper's findings indicate that certain factors (i.e. distinct mission, clear treatment protocols and support from external stakeholders) relevant for the provision of coordinated paediatric oncology care have not received sufficient attention in previous research. In addition, emphasis is placed on the necessity of facilitating constructive working relationships and a bottom-up perspective when pursuing improved care coordination. Originality/value: The factors described and analyzed may act as insights for how paediatric oncology might be improved in terms of care coordination and thus facilitate care integration. In recent years, Swedish sick insurance has become more restrictive. In this article, we analyse how people not being granted payments, despite being seriously ill, are affected. Scholarship on identity formation and sickness stress the importance of constructing narratives in order to come to terms with one's situation. Our analysis of 30 qualitative interviews with people diagnosed with ME/CFS shows that workfare politics conditions such identity formation and often prevents it from taking place. Interviewees describe extreme stress as a result of their contacts with the Social Insurance Agency (SIA), which results in a perpetual crisis that is renewed with each new denied application. In particular, the sense of not having a future means that it is hard to construct narratives to make sense of one's situation. To escape the perpetual crisis, some people have politicised their situation, constructing a narrative about themselves as suffering from oppressive politics. Others have escaped by not applying for sick insurance or other social insurances. But generally speaking, the most common effect of being denied sick insurance is an ongoing crisis that leads to deteriorating health. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The building performance simulation (BPS) based on physical models is a popular method to estimate the expected energy-savings of energy-efficient building retrofitting. However, many buildings, especially the older building constructed several decades ago, do not have full access to complete information for a BPS method. Incomplete information generally comes from the information that is missing, such as the U-value of part building components, due to incomplete documentation or component deterioration over time. It also comes from the case-specific incomplete information due to different documentation systems. Motivated by the available big data of real-life building performance datasets (BPDs), a data-driven approach is proposed to support the decision-making of building retrofitting selections under incomplete information conditions. The data-driven approach constructed a Performance Modelling with Data Imputation (PMDI) with integrated backpropagation neural networks, fuzzy C-means clustering, principal component analysis, and trimmed scores regression. An empirical study was conducted on real-life buildings in Sweden, and the results validated that the PMDI method can model the performance ranges of energy-efficient retrofitting for family house buildings with more than 90% confidence. For a target building in Stockholm, the suggested retrofitting measure is expected to save energy by 12,017~17,292 KWh/year. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Political parties are widely recognised as indispensable actors in democratic systems. One way to illustrate the actions and role of political parties is to explicate various party functions that may be carried out in a political system. The aim of this paper is to explore the relationships between the organisation of party education and five specific party functions in Sweden. The empirical material consists of interviews with party officials from all eight parties that were represented in the national parliament during 2018–2022 as well as a mapping of educational content, structure, and activities from various parties. This material has been analysed in relation to five concrete party functions and a theoretical approach that highlights interactions and relationships occurring on different levels in apolitical system. The results demonstrate that there are different relationships between party education and party functions which may generate implications that are important both for the agency of a party but also to the broader political landscape. Research on healthcare chaplaincy-identity over the years has to a large extent, been both theory-driven and less pronounced in the field of chaplaincy. While this research has contributed important insights, it has also called for empirical/qualitative research, which can add to the growing need for research that complements and nuances theoretical frameworks and suggestions. This article presents an in-depth narrative identity analysis of a hospital chaplain who has served two decades within the healthcare context. The rationale for this case was to specifically explore how a full-time position as a hospital chaplain, coupled with extensive experience within a secularized context organized around medical expertise and other important social and spiritual factors, forged a specific chaplain character, which consisted of six overarching core features or identity markers. The findings from this case study broadens existing knowledge, while also confirming existing theoretical positions. Future research is warranted, in order to display potential additional core features of hospital chaplains, explore contextual identity markers associated to other contexts, and to employ these core features in top-down research or as deductive categories in qualitative research. The design of deep foundations in areas with significant background creep deformation is a challenge. In Sweden, mainly empirical methods have been used in the design of deep foundations. Generally, the predictions have been highly inaccurate, in particular with regards to the long-term deformations. Therefore, a stepwise approach is proposed, which stems from the concept of performance based design. It is shown that with the proposed approach, it is for the first time possible to perform representative back analyses of the long-term response of deep foundations in an environment with ongoing settlements. This is achieved with simplified 2D finite-element analyses using a commercially available creep model. Design assumptions and simplifications are defined based on careful back analysis of relevant case studies in the area that can be found in literature. Society needs to find new ways to utilise its resources in the best possible way in order to enable satisfactory services for its citizens in the long term. This is particularly important in sparsely populated areas, and in cities and municipalities with a declining population. This study contributes to this field by analysing a project for collaboration between the rescue service and the home-care service that has been introduced in a number of Swedish municipalities. The collaboration is intended to ensure welfare and safety for citizens, to guarantee a more efficient use of municipal resources, and to contribute to improved emergency management and civil protection. The rescue service and the home-care service are two clearly gender-coded occupations that also operate on gender-coded work places and places of work. An overarching aim has therefore been to study gendered obstacles and possibilities of the collaboration. In our analysis of the empirical data – interviews with persons involved in the collaboration – place emerged as an important aspect of the collaboration processes, and is therefore elaborated in this article to contribute with knowledge of how conceptions and gender-coding of places and occupations affect sustainable and well-functioning collaboration processes. The results show that collaboration processes between municipal services are complex and challenge ideals of the organisation, content and responsibility of work and who should perform certain work tasks. Notions of gender and gender differences are reproduced through the collaboration, which affect the efforts of municipalities to ensure welfare and safety for citizens. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aims: To describe nurse anesthetists' attitudes towards the importance of parental presence during their child's anaesthesia induction and to explore associating factors. Design: A cross‐sectional design. Methods: Nurse anesthetists from 55 Swedish hospitals were asked to participate (n = 1,285). A total of 809 completed the questionnaire, Families' Importance in Nursing Care‐Nurses' Attitudes (FINC‐NA) during 2018. Data were analysed by descriptive statistics and multiple linear regression analysis. Results: Nurse anesthetists generally had a positive attitude towards the importance of parental presence. They reported a more positive attitude in family as a resource in nursing care (median = 40) followed by family as a conversational partner (median = 25), family not as a burden (median = 17) and family as its own resource (median = 13). Multiple linear regression analyses showed that working in a district hospital, working only with children, having routines/memorandum about parental presence, being a woman, allowing both parents to be present in their child's anaesthesia and greater experience of children's anesthesia, were associated with a more positive attitude. Conclusion: This nationwide survey contributes important knowledge for understanding nurse anesthetists' attitudes and the result shows that nurse anesthetists generally have a positive attitude towards the importance of parents. Areas of improvement were, however, identified; the nurses tend to not value family as its own resource and family as a conversational partner highly. Impact: Nurse anesthetists have a crucial role in children's anesthesia care since the quality of parental presence experience depends on a positive attitude from the nurses. Parental involvement is important to establish a child‐centered anaesthesia care, which should be highlighted in the education of nurse anesthetists. In this empirical study, we analyse how five-year-old children are socialised into particular interpretive practices indicative of a literate mind. The data come from translation activities where children with their teacher listen to and then talk about how to understand the lyrics to a popular children's song. The setting is a Finnish–Swedish immersion programme, where Finnish-speaking children are immersed in Swedish. Three such activities were audio recorded. These are analysed according to the principles of Interaction Analysis, that is, how participants sequentially respond to each other's communicative actions. Theoretically, the study is informed by a sociocultural perspective, highlighting how intramental function, such as reasoning and problem-solving, are contingent on intermental communication. How participating children are introduced to literate distinctions and concepts of interpreting text is therefore premised to be critical to their emerging literate interpretive skills. The results highlight how the children are constantly challenged and supported by the teacher in a zone of proximal development where their abilities to interpret the lyrics discussed are stretched. Background: No studies explore the career core of successful scientific leaders in nursing, a context where role models and career support would be desirable. To achieve a successful academic career, there is a need for an in-depth understanding of how successful scientific leaders in healthcare think in order to guide junior researchers through their early careers. Aim: To explore the main concern of successful scientific leaders in nursing and their mind-set, motivators and strategies for dealing with it. Methods: A strategic group of 24 scientific leaders in nursing (professors and associate professors) in the United States (US) (n=12) and Sweden (n=12) was interviewed. The transcribed text was analysed using grounded theory. Results: The core category, fulfilment, summarizes a process where the generated grounded theory is presented through four main categories: create, struggle, interact and maintain, illustrating how the informants dealt with fulfilment, which was their main concern. The theoretical link between the strategies is professional dedication through reflection, characterized by a will to go beyond themselves to be clinically useful and implement their research. Conclusion: Successful scientific leaders in nursing construct a foundation for professional fulfilment by doing good for patients and improving the healthcare system maintaining being creative and interacting with others, all of which involve a great deal of struggle. This article addresses the relationship between highly skilled international mobility and knowledge by focussing on knowledge transfer work. Empirically, this study is based on interviews of professionals in the Swedish medical field who returned to Sweden after a period of work in other countries. The medical field harbours many transnationally valid competences and standardised lines of work, but even in this field, knowledge transfer is a process requiring effort, skills, negotiation, translation and adjustment to the specific organisational and cultural contexts. The studied professionals' knowledge transfer work showed a spectrum, ranging from smooth, almost friction-free transfers to the ones where much translation and transformation was required, depending on the context and the professional's status in the workplace. The professionals also developed and made use of knowledge transfer skills, such as the ability to observe, analyse and adjust to cultural differences between workplaces, healthcare systems or academic systems, as well as the ability to translate knowledge to make it relevant and viable in the specific context. Background: Lately, greater focus has been given to the mental health of nonbirthing parents postpartum. However, mothers, but not nonbirthing parents, are routinely screened for postpartum depression, and until recently, nonbirthing parents have not been given the same opportunity as mothers to discuss their parental role without the other parent present. To strengthen the parental role, a separate parental interview with the nonbirthing parent began to be offered as part of the Swedish Child Health Service's (CHS) general programme. Aim: This study aimed to explore CHS nurses' experiences of performing parental interviews with nonbirthing parents. Methods: Content analysis was used when analysing data from six research interviews, of which half were focus group interviews. In total, 11 CHS nurses were interviewed. Results: Child Health Service nurses reported that although the interview with the nonbirthing parent was a positive experience and that a more family‐oriented perspective was something many of them had been longing for, they could also feel that it demanded a lot from them, including things they had perhaps not previously considered. CHS nurses reported difficulties with having such close contact with both parents, and they also described feeling worried about the information that could come up in a standardised conversation and the knowledge provided. Conclusion: There are both possibilities and challenges in widening the responsibilities of the CHS nurse to include the nonbirthing parent by offering a postpartum interview. Implications: This study provides information to healthcare professionals about the importance of providing proper guidance and education when broadening the duties and responsibilities for CHS nurses to include nonbirthing parents in mental health screening. This paper presents an overview of the landscape of immigration and integration policies in Sweden and Norway. The study sheds light over differences and similarities between these countries, based on an analysis of official government documents in the period 2010-2018. Empirically, a variety of topics concerned with immigration and integration policies are analyzed, how immigration influences the welfare state, integration issues, policy plans, and different integration measures. Furthermore, the study explores how problems are defined, the source of the problem, who is responsible, and what are the kinds of solutions that are suggested. The findings show that although there are many similarities, some distinct differences are observed in the framing of immigration and integration policies. Not only do the countries focus on different topics but they also have different evaluations of problems and solutions. This article explores supervision conferences in RE teacher education in Sweden. Two discourses that are often articulated in supervision conferences are 'representation' and 'safe space'. These are investigated and presented as necessary components for becoming a competent teacher of upper secondary school RE in Sweden. The empirical material consists of observations of six RE supervision trialogues and interviews with the participants – student teachers, upper secondary school supervisors and university-based teacher educators. Based on the analysis of the empirical material, representation and safe space emerge as essential 'RE teacher knowledge'. Furthermore, the antagonism between representation and safe space that emerges in the supervision trialogues is explored and highlighted. By way of conclusion, the presented discursive struggle is reflected on as a battle over power within the supervision triad. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
