The most common domestic violence is spousal violence against women in Turkey. Although spousal violence may seem to be concerning two people in an intimate relationship, it is actually considered as one of the problems that goes beyond the family and affects the peace of the society. Spiritual wellbeing discusses the relationship between the meaning of life, the pleasure or satisfaction one receives from this life, and the values that can be called spiritual. In this respect, it is a type of well-being and includes both spirituality and well-being. Studies show that religious commitment prevents spousal violences; spirituality and religious commitment reduce violence against married women and increase marital satisfaction. This study aims to examine the relationship between married individuals' attitudes towards violence and their spiritual well-being scores. The research was carried out with married participants living in Muratpaşa, Antalya. Married participants did not participate in the study as couples, but as individuals. 269 (56.8%) participants were female and 205 (43.2%) were male, and thus, the data of 474 participants were studied in the research. Intimate Violence Responsibility Scale (IVRS) and Spiritual Well-Being Scale forms and socio-demographic information form were applied to the participants. SPSS 22.0 was used for the statistical analysis of the data obtained from the scales while descriptive statistics T-Test and Anova-Tukey were performed during the evaluation phase. It was determined that the data set showed a normal distribution and parametric tests were used The relationship between dependent and independent variables was tested with Pearson correlation. When the sub-dimensions of attitude towards violence and spiritual well-being are examined in terms of gender variable, the sub-dimension of violence was significantly higher in women while control and abuse sub-dimensions were significantly higher in men. It is observed that gender does not differ between the sub-scores of spiritual well-being. This situation can be evaluated as the factors that create spiritual feelings do not create differences between genders in society as a supra-gender phenomenon. When the sub-dimensions of attitudes towards violence of the participants and their spouses are compared in terms of the age variable, it is seen that the control attitude towards violence of the older age (66 years and over) participants is lower than the younger participants. According to the findings related to education, it was found that those who graduated from high school had significantly less control and abuse mean scores than other education levels. In addition, no significant relationship was found between the education level of high school students and the violence sub-dimension. According to the study, those with a low level of education exhibit more verbal violence than those with a higher education level. It is expected that violence will decrease with the increase in the level of education, but the reason for the contradictory data in the literature may be related to the quality of education. Carrying out new studies on this issue may be useful. According to the research findings, while there was a significant negative relationship between the sub-dimensions of transcendence and violence and the sub-dimensions of control and abuse, a positive relationship was found between harmony with nature, violence, control and abuse. It has been found that spiritual well-being (transcendence) increased, and the scores of attitude towards violence decreased. In this sense, it is suggested that spiritual education programs will be influential in changing the attitudes towards violence. It is suggested that it would be beneficial to include spiritual education in education programs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

DIGITAL technology , *ATTITUDES toward religion , *CHILDHOOD attitudes , *FAMILIES , *PARENT attitudes , *RELIGIOUS behaviors - Abstract
In today's world, the use of technology has created a new area of responsibility for parents. Digital media, which has entered our lives with the development of technology, has also influenced children born into the digital world, as in many areas. It is known that some harmful results occur when digital media is used in an uncontrolled and unconscious way. Digital parenting is a new conceptualization that can be summarized as parents protecting their children in the use of the internet and digital media, acting consciously against situations that may hinder their development and assuming the necessary parental roles. Digital madia use is open to education and discipline, especially for parent and children, due to the problems it causes. Studies on digital parenting are carried out in different areas in our country and the world. However, the subject's religious attitude and behavior aspect has not been examined much with the practices of religious sciences. At this point, parents' religious attitudes about children's use of the internet and digital media is a problem that needs to be investigated. Religion is one of the most essential elements in life, especially in terms of directing, shaping and giving meaning to individual and family life. The study aims to determine parents' religious attitudes and evaluations regarding their children's use of digital media. In this study, which aims to examine religious attitudes in digital parenting, semi-structured questions were asked to a total of 22 participants, 12 men, 10 women, living in different cities of Turkey, who were reached between December 2020 and January 2023 by purposive sampling method in accordance with the qualitative research design. The data obtained were divided into themes and described by content analysis method. As a result, it has been revealed by the findings that religiously anxious, fatalistic, conscious-controlled and reactionary-prohibitive behaviors occur in digital parenting. In addition, it has been determined that parents, especially those with religious sensitivities, may have religious concerns about their children's internet and social media use, and accordingly their behaviors and attitudes may differ. CONFIRMATORY factor analysis , *STUDENT attitudes , *EXPLORATORY factor analysis , *ATTITUDE (Psychology) , *RELIGIOUS educators , *RELIGIOUS psychology - Abstract
The existence of the psychology of religion emerges from the moment one starts to think about religion. The psychology of religion provides support to religious education and religious educators both in theory and in practice. Individuals who learn the main concepts of the field and the religious lifestyle have the ability to better understand their own feelings, thoughts and behaviors and the feelings, thoughts and behaviors of others. In this context, it can be said that the psychology of religion course is necessary for the theology faculty students, and the knowledge they have gained in the course will contribute their ability to communicate in the jobs they will be assigned and to perform their duties effectively. The main purpose of the psychology of religion course is "to understand and try to explain the religious life of the individual in all its breadth and depth." Achieving this goal for the psychology of religion course is related to the attitudes of the students in theology faculties towards this course. Since it is known that there is a relationship between the attitudes of students towards courses and their academic achievements, students with positive attitudes towards the course are more easily motivated to learn, and those with negative attitudes are less interested in the course. In this context, it is important to investigate the attitudes of theology faculty students towards the psychology of religion course. One of the main reasons for studying attitudes is that it allows behavior to be predicted. The intensity of people's attitudes is attempted to be understood by determining the degree of interest or indifference towards certain things. For this purpose, it is aimed to conduct a scale development study that can be used to determine the attitudes of the theology faculty students towards the psychology of religion course. It is assumed that knowing the attitudes of the theology faculty students towards the psychology of religion course, revealing their negative attitudes, if any, and their reasons will guide the future decisions to make the course more qualified. This study uses the survey method. The study group consists of junior and senior year university students of theology faculties located in different provinces of Turkey. The study group consists of 481 students, of which 354 (73.6%) are female and 127 (26.4%) are male. Following the literature review, a pool of 42 items was created and the number of items was reduced to 39 after receiving an expert opinion. The data collected through the pre-test were loaded into the SPSS 25.0 and made ready for analysis. Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) technique was used for the factor analysis of the scale and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) was used to test the accuracy of the factor structure. After the statistical work performed on the validity of the scale, its KMO value was found to be 0.965. A KMO value above 0.90 is considered "excellent" for the sample size. Bartlett's Test of Sphericity was significant (X2= 11144.785; p<.05), which indicated that the data set had a multivariate normal distribution. When the slope graph was examined, it was observed that three factors with eigenvalues greater than one emerged. Since it was seen that the scale had more than one dimension, it was decided to perform the rotation process. For this, the vertical rotation (varimax rotation) technique was used. Following the repeated rotations, 25 items were found to be gathering under three factors greater than 1. Following the inspection of eigenvalues and variance explanation ratios through factor analysis, it was observed that the scale items were grouped under three factors. The variance percentages of these factors are 34.078, 19.428, and 16.717 respectively. All factors account for 70,223% of the total variance. Factor loading values of the items were between 0.627 and 0.792. Considering the items with the highest loading values under the emerging factors, the factors were named as "Attaching importance/value", "Showing interest/fondness", and "Disapproval/Avoidance". The Cronbach Alpha internal consistency coefficient of the scale was found as α=0.97. To determine whether the scale distinguishes between the participants who demonstrated the measured behavior and who did not, the averages of lower 27% and upper 27% group scores were analyzed with independent samples t-test. After the statistical operations, the independent samples t-test results between the average item scores of the groups were observed to be varying between 18.291 and 43.252 and were statistically significant (p<.01) for all items. Analyses were performed on the correlations among the sub-factors of the scale and significant positive correlations were found between dimensions including Attaching importance/value and Showing interest/fondness (r=0.76;p<0.000), Attaching importance/value and Disapproval/Avoidance (r=0.58; p<0.000), and "Showing interest/fondness" and Disapproval/Avoidance (r=0.64; p<.000). Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) was performed to confirm the emerging structure of the scale. According to the analyzes, the fit indices of the scale were χ2/df= 2.7; NFI= .98; NNFI= .98; IFI= .98; RFI= .98; CFI= .98; RMR= .04 values indicate "perfect fit", while GFI= .85 and RMSEA= .07 values indicate "acceptable fit". When the results of the EFA and CFA were evaluated as a whole, it was concluded that the "Attitude Scale towards the Psychology of Religion Course" (ASTPRC) is a valid and reliable scale that can be used to measure attitudes towards the psychology of religion course. RANDOM effects model , *ATTITUDES toward religion , *GENDER , *FAITH , *PUBLICATION bias , *ATTITUDE (Psychology) , *RELIGIOUS psychology - Abstract
In the research, the impact of the gender on religiosity with reference to graduate thesis conducted in Turkey has been tried to put forward by the meta-analysis. For this purpose, the database of the Council of Higher Education National Thesis Center was first scanned. The screening was performed using the key words "dindarlık", "dini inanç", "dini yönelim", "dini motivasyon", "dini tutum" "religiosity", "religious belief", "religios oriention", "religional motivations" and "religious attitudes". As a result of the last screening process carried out on February 24, 2020, 1790 graduate theses containing keywords were reached. Subsequently, the studies were handled according to the criteria determined by the researchers. It was seen that 168 studies had appropriate data for metaanalysis. However, since 9 of the studies included two different data, each data was included in the study as a different study. Thus, the number of studies included in the study was 177. 131 of the studies are master's thesis, 36 of them are doctoral thesis and one is specialty thesis in medicine. The research sample consists of a total of 83460 people, 42494 women (50.9%), 40966 men (49.1%). The effect size (Cohen d,) in the study was calculated using the publication bias and heterogeneity test The Comprehensive Meta-Analysis Software V.2 (CMA V.2) package program. As a result of the meta-analysis made in the random effects model; according to the classification of Thalheimer and Cook (2002), it has been observed that gender has an insignificant level significant effect on religiousness in favor of women (d= .064, p<.05). The research results were discussed within the framework of the relevant literature and recommendations were presented. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

RELIGIOUS psychology , *RELIGIOUSNESS , *GULEN movement - Abstract
Turkish measures of religiosity are mainly developed in sociology and psychology of religion and trace back to the 1960s. The first attempts in measuring religiosity in Turkey are weak in terms of statistical analysis and scientific soundness. By the 1980s Turkish measures increase in quantity and quality but show poor originality. Most are adaptations of Western-Christianity religiosity scales and are based on multi-dimensionality of religiosity and religious orientation. Authentic religiosity measures, within a framework special to Turkish culture and religion, i.e. Islam, are underrepresented. Therefore, religiosity studies in Turkey indicate theoretical, methodological and authenticity problems. However, the latest studies are promising. After a brief introduction of the fields of psychology and sociology of religion in Turkey, this study provides a critical overview of religiosity measures in Turkey along with an introduction of some in detail, and gives insights into the challenges of conducting religiosity studies in the Turkish context. VALUE orientations , *LOGISTIC regression analysis , *HEDONISM , *IMMIGRANTS , *TURKS , *BICULTURALISM , *RELIGIOUS psychology , *TURKISH Cypriots - Abstract
This study aims to reveal the role of value orientations regarding the differentiation between the two groups living in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and described as Turkish Cypriot and Turkish Immigrant. The concept of Turkish Cypriot is used to describe the descendants of the Turks who were sent to the island during the Ottoman period and who are currently residing in the TRNC; the concept of Turkish Immigrant is used to describe the TRNC citizens migrated to the island from Turkey after the 1974 Cyprus Peace Operation. The population of the study is TRNC citizens and the sample consists of 337 people (165 Turkish Cypriots (49%) and 172 Turkish Immigrants (51%)) selected by simple random method. Schwartz Values Scale was applied to the participants in order to determine their value orientations. The applied scale is the version of the original scale which has been changed to 11 value groups by adding religiosity variable. As a result of the logistic regression analysis, it was found that all value orientations together predicted whether the participants were Turkish Cypriot or Turkish Immigrant. On the other hand, when value orientations were taken individually, only religiosity, stimulation and hedonism values significantly predicted being Turkish Cypriot or Turkish Immigrant. Accordingly, 68.2% of the participants were correctly predicted to join the groups. Value orientations predicted membership to the Turkish Immigrant group (73.3%) at a higher rate than membership to the Turkish Cypriot group (63.0%). 126 out of 172 Turkish Immigrants and 104 out of 165 Turkish Cypriots were correctly predicted to be members of their own group. Emerging research findings are discussed and interpreted in the context of the relevant literature. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

ATTITUDES toward religion , *AGGRESSION (Psychology) , *STUDENT volunteers , *FAITH , *INVECTIVE , *HOSTILITY - Abstract
Various situations that individual encounters in his / her daily Ufe create positive emotions while others cause stress and anxiety. In the literature, such negative moods that affect an individual's emotional, cognitive, physical, behavioral and relational aspects are defined as anxiety. The state of anxiety that affects a large part of society has become widespread today. In parallel studies on anxiety have increased in recent years. There is still a need to investigate the effects of religion on anxiety, including feelings of restlessness, anxiety, fear, irritability, and sadness, because religion and religiosity is an effective factor in many areas of an individual's life, from the world of thought to the world of emotion, from attitudes to various behaviors. One of the negative situations in social Ufe is aggressive behavior. Aggressive behavior, on the other hand, includes all behaviors directed to harm another living being, although it is classified in various ways. Aggression has a very broad form of expression- In the literature, aggression is evaluated in five dimensions as physical indirect, anger, verbal and hostility. In all religions and cultures, aggressive expressions are not welcome because they harm society. Religion and religiosity bring provisions aiming to control the aggressive behaviors of the individual Abroad, religion / religiosity and although more research on the relationship between aggression investigating the relationship between these two cases in Turkey is not so prevalent in the study. The aim of this research is to examine the relationships and interactions between trait anxiety, aggression and religiosity. The purpose of this study is to examine whether religious beliefs and attitudes and continuous anxiety have an effect on the aggressive tendencies of university students. In addition, the effects of gender on religiosity, persistent anxiety and aggression tendencies were discussed in this study. Four hundred-fifteen volunteer students from different universities and faculties participated in the study in the 2017-2018 academic year. After the data set was checked, the final sample consisted of 398 participants. In addition to personal traits, STAI Form TX-2, Motivational Religiosity Scale (MMRI) and Buss-Perry Aggression Scale (BPSO) were used. After the factor analysis of the STAI FORM TX-2, 4 expressions were scattered or ambiguous and 16 expressions remained in the excluded scale. The scale was named as Continuous Anxiety Scale-16. As a result of the analysis, the KMO value of the scale was found to be 833 (p =, 000) and internal consistency was 791. Motivational Religiosity Scale (MMRI) -18: As a result of factor analysis, 18 of the 20 questions were collected under three dimensions, explaining 74% of the total variance, and the internal consistency of the KMO was 961 (p =, 000) and 964, respectively. Buss-Perry Aggression Scale (BPSO): In this study, a 5-point Likert-type scale consisting of 29 items was used. The analysis showed that 10 items were deactivated and the remaining 19 items were collected in 5 sub-dimensions. KMO value of the scale was found to be 857 and the variance explained was 58,346% (p =, 000). The alpha value, which expresses the internal consistency of the scale, was found to be 813. The participants received the highest score in the "religious belief and tendency to help" subscale (M = 4.38). In general, in the subscales where a mean score was obtained above the average of the scale (M = 2.5), finally, M = 3.86 average was obtained from the responsibility dimension in the second place. The participants were as follows in terms of their aggression orientations. The participants obtained the highest average from the "verbal aggression" subscale (5.83). Sub-scales of "scepticism and intellectual hostility" (4,95), "emotional-cognitive hostility" (3,72), "physical aggression" (3,65) and "emotional reactive anger" (3,55) follow. The mean scale obtained by the participants from the verbal aggression and skepticism-intellectual hostility was above the average (M = 4,5). According to the results of the t-test analysis conducted to determine the difference between gender groups in terms of religiosity attitudes, it was found that women's religiosity scale obtained a higher average than the relationship with God, the source of power and trust. The difference was statistically significant (p =, 014). Further, the gender variable leads to a difference from the "unhappy and dissatisfaction" and "fatigue and avoidance" dimensions of the trait anxiety scale. While the average of males was high in the unhappy and dissatisfaction subscale, the women scored high in the fatigue and avoidance subscale. The t-test analysis revealed that the gender variable caused a difference in the aggression scale. The averages obtained from "physical aggression", "emotional hostility" and "anger" subscales are in favor of men. In other words, men tend to have more aggressive thoughts and behaviors than women. According to the results of the regression analysis conducted to determine the relationships and interactions between the variables, it was understood that continuous anxiety was positively correlated with "emotional hostility", "emotional-reactive anger" and "skeptical and intellectual hostility" subscales. Explain anxiety accounts for about 37% of the change in the emotional cognitive hostility dimension of aggression. Define anxiety accounts for approximately 30% of the change in the emotional-reactive anger dimension of aggression and 14% of the change in the sceptical and intellectual hostility dimension. According to the results of regression analysis, the two dimensions of religiosity and aggression subscales have entered into relationship and interaction. The "relationship with God" subscale of religiosity entered into relationships and interactions with other dimensions of aggression except for the "skeptical and intellectual hostility" dimension, while the "religious belief and solidarity" subscale of religiosity only interacted and interacted with the "emotional-reactive anger" dimension of aggression. The negative (-) value of the relationship indicates that the increase in religiosity can lead to a decrease in aggressive behavior. According to the findings, the relationship between religiosity and God; It can be explain about 15% of the change in the physical aggression subscale, about 11% of the change in the emotional-cognitive hostility subscale, about 18% of the change in the emotional-reactive anger dimension, and about 15% of the change in the verbal aggression dimension. The religious belief and solidarity dimension of religiosity explains about 16% of the change in the emotional reactive anger dimension of aggression. The results of this study are limited to the sample group, the time of the study and the ability of the scales to measure. It is thought that the results of this paper can contribute to the literature and can shed light on the further studies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study examines the association between mystical experience, as captured by the Francis–Louden Mystical Orientation Scale, and psychological health, as captured by the Eysenckian three-dimensional model of personality, among 329 students attending a state university in Turkey. The data reported no significant association between mystical orientation and psychoticism scores, and a small but significant positive association between mystical orientation and neuroticism scores, after controlling for sex differences. This finding suggests that there may be a small inverse association between mystical experience and psychological health among students in Turkey. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]

Based upon Lucian of Samosata's account of Alexander of Abonuteichos, who is the founder of the Glycon cult in second century Asia Minor, I argue that Alexander likely is a malignant narcissist. I construct this argument by summarizing Alexander's behaviors, and then showing how those behaviors seemingly relate to modern psychiatric descriptions of narcissists. As such, Alexander's behaviors have parallels with several modern cult leaders. Moreover, Alexander's attempts to kill his critics suggests that he is a particular type of narcissist—a malignant narcissist—making him a dangerous and vengeful personality. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
