Few of previous reading studies "comprehensively" examined the contributing factors of students' digital reading literacy. To fill this gap, based upon the ecological perspective, this study aims to investigate which factors from the student, home, and school context are more important in discriminating high-performing digital readers from non-high-performing digital readers. The data of the Progress in International Reading Literacy Study 2016 with 74,692 Grade 4 students from 14 countries and economies was analyzed using the machine learning approach of support vector machine with recursive feature elimination. Results showed that except print reading levels, students' reading self-efficacy, home resources for learning, talking about what have read in class, and the number of books in the home are the most influential contextual factors contributing to the high performance of digital readers. The selected 20 key contextual factors render a high prediction power for discriminating digital readers. Our findings show that, in general, home-related factors have overarching influences on children's digital reading development; at the school level, instruction-related features are more influential than school characteristics.

This study used a consensual qualitative research method to explore academic adaptation experiences of international students (N = 13) from East Asian countries at a U.S. university. The analysis yielded five domains from the data (challenges, feelings, strategies, suggestions, and self-reflections). Implications for college counselors, university administrators, and future research are discussed.

The efficacy of chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy for large B-cell lymphoma (LBCL) is well-established. This study, using the Premier PINC AI Healthcare Database, assessed hospital costs and healthcare resource utilization (HRU) between CAR T-cell therapy and autologous hematopoietic cell transplant (AHCT) for 733 LBCL patients from 01/01/2017-04/30/2021 (166 CAR T and 567 AHCT from 37 US hospital systems. CAR T-cell therapy had higher index costs but lower non-pharmacy costs, shorter hospital stays, lower ICU utilization than AHCT. The CAR T-cell cohort also presented fewer preparatory costs and HRU. At a 180-day follow-up, AHCT had lower hospitalization rates and costs. Overall, despite higher index costs, CAR T-cell therapy has lower non-pharmacy costs and HRU during the index procedure and requires less preparation time with lower preparation HRUs and costs than AHCT. With a rapidly aging global population, comprehending the risks associated with older people's activities of daily living is increasingly important; yet, interdisciplinary analyses remain rare. By providing a bibliometric overview of the capability risks associated with older people's activities of daily living, in order to identify prevailing trends and future directions in the field, the study aims to fill this gap. Using CiteSpace software to analyze data from 928 articles published between 2004 and 2023, the study results demonstrate the growing interest in the capability risks of older people's activities of daily living, with the United States leading in the number of publications, and geriatrics emerging as the dominant discipline. Notably, Institut National de la Sante et de la Recherche Medicale (Inserm) in France emerges as a pivotal contributor in the field. Key research topics encompass risk factors associated with a decline in daily activities and disease-related studies, with emerging trends in cognitive function and instrumental activity research. Future research should prioritize the development of predictive mechanisms for daily living trends, exploration of caregiving solutions, and promotion of interdisciplinary collaboration. This study highlights promising avenues for further research, emphasizing the importance of predictive modeling, innovative caregiving strategies, and interdisciplinary cooperation in addressing capability risks in the activities of daily living of older people. Background: Illicit substance sales facilitated by social media platforms are a growing public health issue given recent increases in overdose deaths, including an alarming rise in cases of fentanyl poisoning. However, little is known about how online users evaluate what features of social media posts convey safety, which can influence their intent to source illicit substances. Objectives: This study adapts conjoint analysis which assessed how attributes of social media posts (i.e., features) influence safety evaluations of mock posts selling illicit substances. 440 participants were recruited online for self-reporting use or purchase of controlled substances or prescription medicines recreationally. The following attributes were tested: drug packaging, drug offerings, profile photo of seller, payment info provided, and use of emojis. Results: Packaging was ranked the most important attribute (Average Importance =43.68, Offering=14.94, Profile=13.86, Payment=14.11, Emoji=13.41), with posts that displayed drugs in pill bottles assessed as the most safe. Attribute levels for advertising multiple drugs, having a blank profile photo, including payment information, and including emojis also ranked higher in perceived safety. Rankings were consistent across tested demographic factors (i.e., gender, age, and income). Survey results show that online pharmacies were most likely to be perceived as safe for purchasing drugs and medications. Additionally, those who were younger in age, had higher income, and identified as female were more likely to purchase from a greater number of platforms. Mesoscale convective systems (MCSs) are crucial components of the hydrological cycle and often produce flash floods. Given their impact, it is important to understand how they will change under a warming climate. This study uses a satellite‐ and radar‐based MCS tracking algorithm on convection‐permitting climate model simulations and examines changes in MCS properties and precipitation structures between historical and future simulations. An underestimation in MCS total precipitation is evident in historical simulation compared to observations, due to model's depiction of MCS precipitation area and summertime occurrence frequency. Under pseudo‐global warming, increases in MCS frequency and total warm season precipitation are observed, most notably in the southern U.S. The precipitation intensity and precipitating area generated by future MCSs also rises and results in an increase in precipitation volume. MCS precipitation structures are further classified into convective core and stratiform regions to understand how change in these structures contributes to future rainfall changes. In a warmer climate, the stratiform region demonstrates minimal change in size, but increases in mean precipitation rate and mean maximum precipitation rate by 15% and 29% are noted, respectively. A more robust future response is observed in the convective core region, with its size, mean precipitation rate and mean maximum precipitation rate increasing significantly by 24%, 37% and 42%, respectively. Finally, by examining the environmental properties of MCS initial condition, future intensification of convective rain may be attributed to a combined effect of substantial increases in atmospheric instability and moisture availability. Plain Language Summary: Thunderstorms that group together and grow to hundreds of kilometers in size and persist for more than a few hours are called mesoscale convective systems. They play an important role in Earth's water cycle and are often responsible for causing flash flooding events. Given their impact, understanding how they will change due to a warming climate is crucial. By analyzing the outputs from climate models, this study reveals future changes in various aspects of mesoscale storms behaviors, such as their frequency and where they occur. In addition, the rainfall patterns from the present and future mesoscale storms are compared. Our findings show that in a warmer climate, these storms will probably occur more frequently and bring more rain, especially in the southern parts of the United States. Individual mesoscale storms are also expected to contain larger rain areas and release heavier rainfall, which would contribute to an overall increase in rain volume. A shift from lighter rain to more moderate/heavy rain during these storms is also noticed, implying a potential rise in intense mesoscale storm events and heightened chances of flash floods in the future. Deciding whose words to trust profoundly impacts children's knowledge acquisition. In evaluating informants' trustworthiness, children are attentive to their social dominance. Previous studies have shown that children's trust preferences may differ across cultures based on the dominance of the informant: children in Western cultures prefer to trust in testimony from dominant informants, whereas children in Eastern cultures prefer to trust subordinate informants (Bernard et al., 2016; Charafeddine et al., 2019). We aim to investigate the potential cultural difference in the trust preferences of European American children (in the United States) and Chinese children (in China) from informants of varying levels of dominance, using a more refined method to assess children's trust preferences. We propose that different levels of authoritarianism – advocacies to obey authorities – in Western and Eastern cultures may explain the potential difference in children's selective trust. Specifically, as impacted by societal cultures, Chinese parents may possess a higher level of authoritarianism than European American parents and may place a higher emphasis on obedience in their parenting. Consequently, Chinese children may show stronger trust preferences from subordinate informants over dominant informants than European American children. The aim of this study was to gain an understanding of the evolving landscape of research on the intricate relationship between COVID-19 and livelihoods, while also identifying research gaps and directions. To achieve this aim, a systematic review methodology was adopted, and metadata was developed using VOSviewer and R software. A total of 1988 relevant articles on COVID-19 and livelihoods were collected since the outbreak of the pandemic. However, after applying exclusion criteria and conducting thorough reviews, only 1503 articles were deemed suitable for analysis. The data was analyzed in relation to three phases of COVID-19 impacts: the early stage of COVID, the middle stages during the outbreak, and the post-recovery phase. We examined the distribution of research disciplines, regions, authors, institutions, and keywords across these phases. The findings revealed that coping strategies, food security, public health, mental health, social vulnerability, and regional differences were extensively researched areas in relation to COVID-19 and livelihoods. It was found that the United States had the highest volume of research on COVID-19 and livelihoods. Additionally, the top 1.28% of journals published 18.76% of the literature, with a predominantly focused on the environmental category. This study offers valuable perspectives into the vulnerability caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and its impacts on livelihoods. Furthermore, it provides lessons learned, outlines potential future research pathways to understand the dynamics between environmental factors (like COVID-19) and livelihood stress, and includes a comparison of traditional livelihoods research. Indulgent parenting has been associated with adolescents' psychological well-being problems; however, prior research has primarily relied on adolescents' report of such parenting behavior and its association with their own well-being, often overlooking parents' perceptions of indulgence and their own well-being. In this study, we address this gap in the literature by examining the agreement and disagreement between parents' and adolescents' perceptions of indulgent parenting and the implications for the psychological well-being of both adolescents and their parents. Further, we explore the role of adolescent–parent relationship satisfaction as a potential factor affecting these associations. Our investigation was based on data from 128 parent–adolescent dyads. Utilizing structural equation modeling with double-entry intraclass correlations (ICC_DE), our analyses revealed several main findings: (1) adolescents perceived higher levels of indulgent parenting than their parents did; (2) disagreement in perceived indulgent parenting between parents and adolescents was linked to psychological well-being problems for both adolescents and their parents; and (3) disagreement in perceptions in indulgent parenting had a stronger association with adolescents' well-being problems when adolescents reported greater relationship satisfaction with their parents. These findings provide insights into perceptions of indulgent parenting within parent–adolescent relationships and bring psychological implications for both adolescents and their parents. The parameters of the GR4J-CemaNeige coupling model (GR4neige) are typically treated as constants. However, the maximum capacity of the production store (parX1) exhibits time-varying characteristics due to climate variability and vegetation coverage change. This study employed differentiable parameter learning (dPL) to identify the time-varying parX1 in the GR4neige across 671 catchments within the United States. We built two types of dPL, including static and dynamic parameter networks, to assess the advantages of the time-varying parameter. In the dynamic parameter network, we evaluated the impact of potential evapotranspiration (PET), precipitation (P), temperature (T), soil moisture (SM), and normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) datasets on the performance of dPL. We then compared dPL with the empirical functional method (fm). The results demonstrated that the dynamic parameter network outperformed the static parameter network in streamflow estimation. There were differences in streamflow estimation among the dynamic parameter network driven by various input features. In humid catchments, simultaneously incorporating all five factors, including PET, P, T, SM, and the NDVI, achieved optimal streamflow simulation accuracy. In arid catchments, it was preferable to introduce PET, T, and the NDVI separately for improved performance. dPL significantly outperformed the empirical fm in estimating streamflow and uncalibrated intermediate variables, like evapotranspiration (ET). Both the derived parX1 from dPL and the empirical fm exhibited significant spatiotemporal variation across 671 catchments. Notably, compared to parX1 obtained through the empirical fm, parX1 derived from dPL exhibited a distinct spatial clustering pattern. This study highlights the potential of dPL in enhancing model accuracy and contributes to understanding the spatiotemporal variation characteristics of parX1 under the influence of climate factors, soil conditions, and vegetation change. Background: Prior studies have established a connection between folate intake and cardiovascular disease (CVD). Abdominal aortic calcification (AAC) has been introduced as a good predictor of CVD events, but no previous study has investigated the relationship between dietary folate intake and severe AAC. Therefore, the study aims to explore the association between dietary folate intake and severe AAC in the United States (US) middle-aged and elderly population. Methods: This study employed cross-sectional data from the 2013-2014 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) to examine the relationship between dietary folate intake and severe AAC. Two 24-h dietary recall interviews were conducted to assess dietary folate intake and its sources, while a DXA scan was used to determine the AAC score. To analyze the association between dietary folate intake and severe AAC, a multivariable logistic regression model was applied, and a subgroup analysis was performed. Results: Our analysis utilized data from 2640 participants aged 40 years and above, including 288 individuals diagnosed with severe AAC. After adjusting for confounding factors, we observed an inverted L-shaped association between folate intake and severe AAC. Upon further adjustment for specific confounding factors and covariates, the multivariable-adjusted odds ratios (ORs) and corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for the second, third, and fourth quartiles of folate intake, using the first quartile as the reference, were as follows: 1.24 (0.86-1.79), 0.86 (0.58-1.27), and 0.63 (0.41-0.97), respectively. Subgroup analysis results were consistent with the logistic regression models, indicating concordant findings. Moreover, no significant interaction was observed in the subgroup analyses. Conclusions: The study findings suggest an inverted L-shaped association between dietary folate intake and severe AAC. The main purpose of the current studies was to examine retracted experiences in the general population from various cultural backgrounds. More specifically, in two studies, we examined the details of memory retraction experiences, the reasons for retraction, and the outcomes of retraction in participants from China and other countries, mainly the United States of America. It was found that memory retraction experiences appeared to be quite common. In the sample of Chinese participants (Study 1: N = 1380), 50.58% reported at least one such an experience, whereas in respondents from other countries (Study 2; N = 425), a significantly lower but still substantial prevalence rate of 35% was found. In general, the retracted memories predominantly involved positive events and some respondents experienced pressure during the withdrawal. Social feedback and event plausibility were the two main reasons for the withdrawal. Compared to recollection scores, belief scores decreased significantly after withdrawal, and some respondents even formed nonbelieved memories. After retracting the memories, most respondents felt they gained benefits (e.g., they had resolved a psychological problem that had bothered them for years). Informed by the goodness-of-fit model, goal theories, and literature on support gaps, this study examines the associations between congruence/discrepancies in parent-adolescent expectations of the adolescent's educational and career goals and adolescents' perceived overparenting. Data were collected through a survey of 122 parent-adolescent dyads from four high schools in the U.S. Results from second-order polynomial regression with response surface analysis indicated that parental high educational or career goal expectation alone was not necessarily related to adolescents' perception of overparenting. Rather, adolescents' perception of overparenting depended on the congruence/discrepancies in parents' and adolescents' expectations. Compared to parent-adolescent congruence in high or low expectations, either direction of expectation discrepancies—either parents' expectation exceeds adolescents' expectation, or adolescents' expectation exceeds their parents—was more likely to be associated with adolescents' perception of overparenting. Parenting intervention and educational programs should acknowledge that discrepancies in parents' and adolescents' educational and career goals could potentially contribute to parental overparenting. Background: In the United States, the National Alzheimer's Coordinating Center (NACC) and the Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI) are two major data sharing resources for Alzheimer's Disease (AD) research. NACC and ADNI strive to make their data more FAIR (findable, interoperable, accessible and reusable) for the broader research community. However, there is limited work harmonizing and supporting cross-cohort interoperability of the two resources. Method: In this paper, we leverage an ontology-based approach to harmonize data elements in the two resources and develop a web-based query system to search patient cohorts across the two resources. We first mapped data elements across NACC and ADNI, and performed value harmonization for the mapped data elements with inconsistent permissible values. Then we built an Alzheimer's Disease Data Element Ontology (ADEO) to model the mapped data elements in NACC and ADNI. We further developed a prototype cross-cohort query system to search patient cohorts across NACC and ADNI. Results: After manual review, we found 172 mappings between NACC and ADNI. These 172 mappings were further used to construct common concepts in ADEO. Our data element mapping and harmonization resulted in five files storing common concepts, variables in NACC and ADNI, mappings between variables and common concepts, permissible values of categorical type data elements, and coding inconsistency harmonization, respectively. Our cross-cohort query system consists of three core architectural elements: a web-based interface, an advanced query engine, and a backend MongoDB database. Conclusions: In this work, ADEO has been specifically designed to facilitate data harmonization and cross-cohort query of NACC and ADNI data resources. Although our prototype cross-cohort query system was developed for exploring NACC and ADNI, its backend and frontend framework has been designed and implemented to be generally applicable to other domains for querying patient cohorts from multiple heterogeneous data sources. Background: The multimorbidity of Atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) and many other chronic conditions is becoming common. This study aimed to assess multimorbidity distribution in ASCVD among adults in the United States from 1999 to 2018. Methods: This cross-sectional survey from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 1999–2018 using stratified multistage probability design. Among the 53,083 survey respondents during the study period, 5,729 US adults aged ≥ 20 years with ASCVD. Joinpoint regression was used to assess the statistical significance of prevalence trends in the prevalence of ASCVD stratified by multimorbidity. The Apriori association rule mining algorithm was used to identify common multimorbidity association patterns in ASCVD patients. Results: Overall, 5,729 of 53,083 individuals had ASCVD, and the prevalence showed a slow declining trend (biannual percentage change = -0.81%, p = 0.035, average 7.71%). The prevalence of ASCVD significantly decreased in populations without dyslipidemia, diabetes mellitus (DM), hypertension, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and arthritis (all groups, p < 0.05). Additionally, 65.6% of ASCVD patients had at least four of the 12 selected chronic conditions, with four and five being the most common numbers of conditions (17.9% and 17.7%, respectively). The five most common chronic conditions were (in order) dyslipidemia, hypertension, arthritis, chronic kidney disease, and DM. The coexistence of hypertension and dyslipidemia had the highest support in association rules (support = 0.63), while the coexistence of dyslipidemia, hypertension, metabolic syndrome, and DM had the highest lift (lift = 1.82). Conclusions: During the 20-year survey period, there was a significant decrease in the overall prevalence of ASCVD. However, this reduction was primarily observed in individuals without dyslipidemia, DM, hypertension, asthma, COPD, and arthritis. Among populations with any of the evaluated chronic conditions, the prevalence of ASCVD remained unchanged. Most of ASCVD patients had four or more concurrent chronic conditions. Diurnal precipitation is a fundamental mode of variability that climate models have difficulty in accurately simulating. Here the diurnal cycle of precipitation (DCP) in participating climate models from the Global Energy and Water Exchanges' DCP project is evaluated over the tropics and central United States. Common model biases such as excessive precipitation over the tropics, too frequent light‐to‐moderate rain, and the failure to capture propagating convection in the central United States still exist. Over the central United States, the issues of too weak rainfall intensity in climate runs is well improved in their hindcast runs with initial conditions from numerical weather prediction analyses. But the improvement is minimal over the central Amazon. Incorporating the role of the large‐scale environment in convective triggering processes helps resolve the phase‐locking issue in many models where precipitation often incorrectly peaks near noon due to maximum insolation over land. Allowing air parcels to be lifted above the boundary layer improves the simulation of nocturnal precipitation which is often associated with the propagation of mesoscale systems. Including convective memory in cumulus parameterizations acts to suppress light‐to‐moderate rain and promote intense rainfall; however, it also weakens the diurnal variability. Simply increasing model resolution (with cumulus parameterizations still used) cannot fully resolve the biases of low‐resolution climate models in DCP. The hierarchy modeling framework from this study is useful for identifying the missing physics in models and testing new development of model convective processes over different convective regimes. Background: In ageing societies such as the United States, evaluating the incidence and survival rates of cancer in older adults is essential. This study aimed to analyse the incidence and survival rates of cancer in individuals aged 55 years or older in the United States. Methods: This retrospective study (1975–2019) was conducted using combined registry data from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database. Data from the 9, 12, and 17 Registries (Nov 2021 Sub) datasets were used. Results: In 2019, the incidence of cancer in individuals older than 55 years and the overall population was 1322.8 and 382.1 per 100,000 population, respectively. From 2000 to 2019, the incidence of cancer in individuals older than 55 years showed a decreasing trend, whereas their five-year survival rates showed an increasing trend. The incidence of cancer in the 75–79 and 80–84 year age groups was the highest among all age groups. Conclusions: The incidence of colon cancer declined significantly, whereas that of intrahepatic bile duct cancer increased considerably. These trends may be due to increased screening for cancers with high incidence rates and improved control of the risk factors for cancer. Rapid development of targeted therapy and immunotherapy combined with early tumour detection may be an important reason for the improved survival rates. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

PURPOSE: Pancreatic cancer currently holds the position of third deadliest cancer in the United States and the 5-year survival rate is among the lowest for major cancers at just 12%. Thus, continued research efforts to better understand the clinical and molecular underpinnings of pancreatic cancer are critical to developing both early detection methodologies as well as improved therapeutic options. This study introduces Pancreatic Cancer Action Network's (PanCAN's) SPARK, a cloud-based data and analytics platform that integrates patient health data from the PanCAN's research initiatives and aims to accelerate pancreatic cancer research by making real-world patient health data and analysis tools easier to access and use. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The SPARK platform integrates clinical, molecular, multiomic, imaging, and patient-reported data generated from PanCAN's research initiatives. The platform is built on a cloud-based infrastructure powered by Velsera. Cohort exploration and browser capabilities are built using Velsera ARIA, a specialized product for leveraging clinicogenomic data to build cohorts, query variant information, and drive downstream association analyses. Data science and analytic capabilities are also built into the platform allowing researchers to perform simple to complex analysis. RESULTS: Version 1 of the SPARK platform was released to pilot users, who represented diverse end users, including molecular biologists, clinicians, and bioinformaticians. Included in the pilot release of SPARK are deidentified clinical (including treatment and outcomes data), molecular, multiomic, and whole-slide pathology images for over 600 patients enrolled in PanCAN's Know Your Tumor molecular profiling service. CONCLUSION: The pilot release of the SPARK platform introduces qualified researchers to PanCAN real-world patient health data and analytical resources in a centralized location. Abstract. Problem definition: Online retailers have to provide customers with an estimate of how fast an order can be delivered before they decide to make the purchase. Retailers can strategically adjust this delivery speed promise online without changing offline infrastructure, and doing so may fundamentally impact business outcomes. It can influence consumers' purchasing decisions and postpurchase experiences, often in the opposite direction. On one hand, an aggressive (i.e., faster) delivery estimate could ensure that more customers meet their deadlines and thus, may increase their purchases ex ante. On the other hand, an aggressive estimate tends to overpromise, potentially leading to a longer than expected wait time, which can lower customer satisfaction and increase product returns ex post. In this research, we estimate the causal effect of retailers' delivery speed promise on customer behaviors and business performance. Methodology/results: Collaborating with Collage.com, an online retailer that sells customized photo products across the United States, we exogenously varied the disclosed delivery speed estimates online while keeping the physical delivery speed unchanged. Using the difference-in-differences identification strategy, we find that a faster promise increases sales and profits, but it also increases product returns and reduces customer retention. In addition, we propose a data-driven model that uses the estimated parameters to optimize delivery promises to maximize customer lifetime value. Managerial implications: Our findings provide managerial insights and a data-driven policy that retailers can leverage to optimize and customize their delivery promises. Funding: T. Objective: In this study, researchers aimed to extend the current literature by examining the patterns of indulgent parenting of both mothers and fathers and their associations with adolescents' basic psychological needs satisfaction, self‐control, and self‐efficacy. Background: Indulgent parenting could be harmful for the development of psychological needs satisfaction and cognitive abilities when adolescents seek autonomy and gain emotional regulatory skills. Yet research is limited on investigating the patterns of indulgent parenting and their relationships to adolescents' psychological development. Method: The sample consisted of 268 adolescents in Grades 9 to 11 from several high schools in a southeastern region of the United States. Participants took an online survey about their perceptions of parental indulgent parenting, their psychological development, and demographic information. Results: Results from multivariate mixture modeling suggested four distinct classes of perceived maternal and paternal indulgence. Further, these classes demonstrated differential associations with adolescents' basic psychological needs satisfaction, self‐control, and self‐efficacy. Conclusion: The findings revealed different patterns of perceived indulgent parenting practices. Further, these findings also highlighted the negative role of perceived behavioral indulgence on adolescents' psychological development. We use source-encoded waveform inversion to image Earth's Northern Hemisphere. The encoding method is based on measurements of Laplace coefficients of stationary wavefields. By assigning to each event a unique frequency, we compute Fréchet derivatives for all events simultaneously based on one 'super' forward and one 'super' adjoint simulation for a small fraction of the computational cost of classical waveform inversion with the same data set. No cross-talk noise is introduced in the process, and the method does not require all events to be recorded by all stations. Starting from global model GLAD_M25, we performed 100 conjugate gradient iterations using a data set consisting of 786 earthquakes recorded by 9846 stations. Synthetic inversion tests show that we achieve good convergence based on this data set, and we see a consistent misfit reduction during the inversion. The new model, named SE100, has much higher spatial resolution than GLAD_M25, revealing details of the Yellowstone and Iceland hotspots, subduction beneath the Western United States and the upper mantle structure beneath the Arctic Ocean. Background: Although aspirin is increasingly utilized to reduce the event of severe perioperative complications, the effect of long-term aspirin use (L-AU) on perioperative complications in patients undergoing shoulder arthroplasty (SA) has not been well studied. The goal of the present study is to identify the influence of L-AU on perioperative complications in individuals undergoing SA. Methods: We selected data from the National Inpatient Sample database between 2010 and 2019, to identify adult patients with SA. Patients were subsequently categorized into L-AU and whole non-L-AU cohorts according to the presence of aspirin use. The demographic and comorbidity characteristics were matched using propensity score matching (PSM). The Pearson chi-square test, Wilcoxon rank test and logistic regression were utilized to assess the association of L-AU with perioperative complications. Results: From 2010 to 2019, a total of 162,418 SA patients satisfied the inclusion criteria, with 22,659 (13.95%) using aspirin on a long-term basis. The vast majority of the patients with pre-existing L-AU were aged 65–74 years, female, White and had Medicare insurance. L-AU before surgery was linked to increased risks of perioperative complications, such as blood transfusion (adjusted odds ratio [aOR]: 1.339), genitourinary disease (aOR: 1.349), acute renal failure (aOR: 1.292), acute myocardial infarction (aOR: 1.494), higher total charge (L-AU vs. the whole non-L-AU vs. matched non-L-AU: $66,727.15 vs. $59,697.08 vs. $59,926.32), and prolonged hospitalization stay (LOS) (aOR: 0.837). However, L-AU was considered a protective factor of acute cerebrovascular disease (aOR: 0.722) and stroke (aOR: 0.725). Conclusions: Our study is based on the largest open-access all-payer inpatient database, revealing a noteworthy finding of aspirin's protective and adverse impact on different postoperative complications in the US population, such as acute cardiovascular disease, and stroke, etc. Further studies assessing the optimum preoperative aspirin duration and dosage to meet the best benefit quantity for patients with planned joint arthroplasties are suggested. INTRODUCTION: As e-cigarette marketing strategies diversify, it is important to examine exposure to and impact of e-cigarette advertisements and non-advertising content (e.g. on social media) via multiple media channels among adults in different regulatory contexts. METHODS: Using 2021 cross-sectional data among 2222 adults in the US (n=1128) and Israel (n=1094), multivariable regression examined past-month e-cigarette advertisement and non-advertising content exposure in relation to past-month e-cigarette use (logistic regression), as well as use intentions and risk perceptions (linear regressions), controlling for sociodemographics and tobacco use. RESULTS: Overall, 20.3% reported past-month e-cigarette use (15.5% US, 25.2% Israel), 46.1% any advertisement exposure (28.7% digital media, 25.2% traditional media, 16.8% retail settings), and 34.1% any non-advertising exposure (19.4% social media, 13.6% websites, 12.3% movie/television/theater, 5.8% radio/podcasts). Exposure to digital media advertisements (AOR=1.95; 95% CI: 1.42-2.66), traditional media advertisements (AOR=2.00; 95% CI=1.49-2.68), and social media non-advertising (AOR=1.72; 95% CI: 1.25-2.36) correlated with e-cigarette use. Exposure to traditional media advertisements (β = 0.23; 95% CI: 0.08-0.38) and social media non-advertising (β = 0.26; 95% CI: 0.09-0.43) correlated with use intentions. Exposure to digital media advertisements (β = -0.32; 95% CI: -0.57 - -0.08), retail setting advertisements (β = -0.30; 95% CI: -0.58 - -0.03), and radio/podcast non-advertising (β = -0.44; 95% CI: -0.84 - -0.03) correlated with lower perceived addictiveness. Radio/podcast non-advertising exposure (β = -0.50; 95% CI: -0.84 - -0.16) correlated with lower perceived harm. However, retail setting advertisement exposure was associated with e-cigarette non-use (AOR=0.61; 95% CI: 0.42-0.87), and traditional media advertisement (β = 0.38; 95% CI: 0.15-0.61) and social media non-advertising exposure (β = 0.40; 95% CI: 0.14-0.66) correlated with greater perceived addictiveness. The proportion of highways in infrastructure investment is growing and playing a significant role. It has many advantages in all aspects of social life and has become a timely subject of recent research. However, the existing literature lacks a systematic review of the current research status of highway investment. Thus, this study aims to conduct a scientometric analysis of the existing literature on highway investment to provide an overview of its current state of research. Using the Web of Science Core Collection database, this study conducted searches and screenings of 614 documents related to highway investment from 2013 to 2023. Subsequently, VOSviewer software was employed to perform a visual analysis of source journals, authors, countries/regions, article citations, and keywords. The results reveal that Transportation Research Record is identified as the most influential journal in the field of highway investment. Bullock, Darcy M. has published the greatest number of articles. In addition, the United States has published the largest number of studies and contributed significantly to the advancement of highway investment. Benjamin Faber has received the highest number of citations and normalized citations. Through co-occurring keywords analysis, keywords such as "risk", "influence", "investment decision", and "infrastructure investment" receive more attention. The findings of this research can contribute to providing researchers and scholars with a more comprehensive understanding of the current research status of highway investment and its key issues. During virus outbreaks in the recent past, web behavior mining, modeling, and analysis have served as means to examine, explore, interpret, assess, and forecast the worldwide perception, readiness, reactions, and response linked to these virus outbreaks. The recent outbreak of the Marburg Virus disease (MVD), the high fatality rate of MVD, and the conspiracy theory linking the FEMA alert signal in the United States on 4 October 2023 with MVD and a zombie outbreak, resulted in a diverse range of reactions in the general public which has transpired in a surge in web behavior in this context. This resulted in "Marburg Virus" featuring in the list of the top trending topics on Twitter on 3 October 2023, and "Emergency Alert System" and "Zombie" featuring in the list of top trending topics on Twitter on 4 October 2023. No prior work in this field has mined and analyzed the emerging trends in web behavior in this context. The work presented in this paper aims to address this research gap and makes multiple scientific contributions to this field. First, it presents the results of performing time-series forecasting of the search interests related to MVD emerging from 216 different regions on a global scale using ARIMA, LSTM, and Autocorrelation. The results of this analysis present the optimal model for forecasting web behavior related to MVD in each of these regions. Second, the correlation between search interests related to MVD and search interests related to zombies was investigated. The findings show that there were several regions where there was a statistically significant correlation between MVD-related searches and zombie-related searches on Google on 4 October 2023. Finally, the correlation between zombie-related searches in the United States and other regions was investigated. The atrium space represents one of the most energy-intensive areas within buildings. This is especially evident in college teaching buildings, where the inclusion of atriums often leads to increased energy consumption, primarily due to enhancements in lighting and thermal comfort. To address this issue, this study investigates atriums in cold regions within college teaching buildings and establishes four distinct atrium models for such buildings through typological abstraction and evolution. This study utilizes the Grasshopper (Ladybug Tools; developed by Robert McNeel & Assoc, Inc. in the United States.) parametric performance simulation platform to simulate daylight comfort and energy consumption within the atriums. Range analysis is subsequently applied to assess the impact of variables on energy consumption, and variables with the least influence are eliminated. Subsequently, the Octopus plug-in is employed to conduct multi-objective optimization for the four atrium types, resulting in the attainment of a Pareto-optimized solution set. Following optimization, the energy efficiency rates for the four atrium types are determined as 10.3%, 17.6%, 37.2%, and 30.5%, respectively, while the daylight comfort rates experience enhancements of 4.4%, 10.4%, 44.7%, and 34%, respectively. Background Campylobacter is the most common cause of bacterial diarrhea in the United States; resistance to macrolides and fluoroquinolones limits treatment options. We examined the epidemiology of US Campylobacter infections and changes in resistance over time. Methods The Foodborne Diseases Active Surveillance Network receives information on laboratory-confirmed Campylobacter cases from 10 US sites, and the National Antimicrobial Resistance Monitoring System receives a subset of isolates from these cases for antimicrobial susceptibility testing. We estimated trends in incidence of Campylobacter infection, adjusting for sex, age, and surveillance changes attributable to culture-independent diagnostic tests. We compared percentages of isolates resistant to erythromycin or ciprofloxacin during 2005–2016 with 2017–2018 and used multivariable logistic regression to examine the association of international travel with resistance. Results Adjusted Campylobacter incidence remained stable or decreased for all groups analyzed since 2012. Among 2449 linked records in 2017–2018, the median patient age was 40.2 years (interquartile range, 21.6–57.8 years), 54.8% of patients were male, 17.2% were hospitalized, and 0.2% died. The percentage of resistant infections increased from 24.5% in 2005–2016 to 29.7% in 2017–2018 for ciprofloxacin (P <.001) and from 2.6% to 3.3% for erythromycin (P =.04). Persons with recent international travel had higher odds than nontravelers of having isolates resistant to ciprofloxacin (adjusted odds ratio [aOR] varied from 1.7 to 10.6 by race/ethnicity) and erythromycin (aOR = 1.7; 95% confidence interval, 1.3–2.1). Conclusions Campylobacter incidence has remained stable or decreased, whereas resistance to antimicrobials recommended for treatment has increased. Background: The growing interest suggests that the widespread application of radiomics has facilitated the development of neurological disease diagnosis, prognosis, and classification. The application of artificial intelligence methods in radiomics has increasingly achieved outstanding prediction results in recent years. However, there are few studies that have systematically analyzed this field through bibliometrics. Our destination is to study the visual relationships of publications to identify the trends and hotspots in radiomics research and encourage more researchers to participate in radiomics studies. Methods: Publications in radiomics in the field of neurological disease research can be retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection. Analysis of relevant countries, institutions, journals, authors, keywords, and references is conducted using Microsoft Excel 2019, VOSviewer, and CiteSpace V. We analyze the research status and hot trends through burst detection. Results: On October 23, 2022, 746 records of studies on the application of radiomics in the diagnosis of neurological disorders were retrieved and published from 2011 to 2023. Approximately half of them were written by scholars in the United States, and most were published in Frontiers in Oncology, European Radiology, Cancer, and SCIENTIFIC REPORTS. Although China ranks first in the number of publications, the United States is the driving force in the field and enjoys a good academic reputation. NORBERT GALLDIKS and JIE TIAN published the most relevant articles, while GILLIES RJ was cited the most. RADIOLOGY is a representative and influential journal in the field. "Glioma" is a current attractive research hotspot. Keywords such as "machine learning," "brain metastasis," and "gene mutations" have recently appeared at the research frontier. Conclusion: Most of the studies focus on clinical trial outcomes, such as the diagnosis, prediction, and prognosis of neurological disorders. The radiomics biomarkers and multi-omics studies of neurological disorders may soon become a hot topic and should be closely monitored, particularly the relationship between tumor-related non-invasive imaging biomarkers and the intrinsic micro- environment of tumors. Suicide ranks among the 10 leading causes of death, with rates increasing among middle-aged adults. Anger is associated with suicide risk, but few studies have investigated this association in a primarily middle-aged sample. The present study investigated the association between state or trait anger and suicidal ideation among a national sample of 1255 middle-aged adults. Participants (M = 54.5, SD = 11.7; range = 34–84) were from the Midlife in the United States (MIDUS) Biomarker sub-project (2004–2009). In a multivariate model including age, sex, depression symptoms, angry temperament, and externalized anger, only angry temperament significantly predicted suicidal ideation independent of depression symptoms (OR = 1.13, p =.04). The associations between anger subscales and suicidal ideation were not moderated by gender or depression symptoms and were not mediated by interpersonal difficulties. Among middle-aged adults, angry temperament is associated with risk of suicidal ideation, irrespective of gender or depression symptoms. Antipsychotic drugs are still widely prescribed to control various severe neuropsychiatric symptoms in the elderly and dementia patients although they are off-label use in the United States. However, clinical practice shows greater side effects and lower efficacy of antipsychotics for this vulnerable population and the mechanisms surrounding this aged-related sensitivity are not well understood. Our previous studies have shown that aginginduced epigenetic alterations may be involved in the increasing severity of typical antipsychotic haloperidol induced side effects in aged mice. Still, it is unknown if similar epigenetic mechanisms extend to atypical antipsychotics, which are most often prescribed to dementia patients combined with severe neuropsychiatric symptoms. In this study, we report that atypical antipsychotic risperidone also causes increased motor side effect behaviors in aged mice and 5xFAD mice. Histone deacetylase (HDAC) inhibitor Valproic Acid and Entinostat can mitigate the risperidone induced motor side effects. We further showed besides D2R, reduced expression of 5-HT2A, one of the primary atypical antipsychotic targets in the striatum of aged mice that are also mitigated by HDAC inhibitors. Finally, we demonstrate that specific histone acetylation mark H3K27 is hypoacetylated at the 5htr2a and Drd2 promoters in aged mice and can be reversed with HDAC inhibitors. Our work here establishes evidence for a mechanism where aging reduces expression of 5-HT2A and D2R, the key atypical antipsychotic drug targets through epigenetic alteration. The study examines the role that perceptions or impressions of learning environments and assessments play in students' performance on a large-scale standardized test. Hierarchical linear modeling (HLM) was used to test aspects of the Learning Errors and Formative Feedback model to determine how much variation in students' performance was explained by students' and school principals' perceptions of learning environments and assessments. Results from sequential HLM testing indicated that students' but not principals' perceptions explained a significant, although modest, amount of the total variation in students' test performance. These results suggest that when students perceive learning environments to be safe and valuable, and positive assessment activities to be taking place, they tend to perform better on standardized tests than when they perceive learning environments and assessment activities otherwise. These findings provide a rationale for investigating the variables that can help improve students' perceptions in order to enhance their test performance.

The current study aimed to investigate Chinese immigrants' sleep quality and associations between the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic's impact and racism and sleep disruption using a cross-sectional online survey. A total of 507 Chinese immigrants were recruited via social network sites. The Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) was used to assess sleep quality. The pandemic's impact and racism were measured using questions developed for this study. More than 42% of participants reported poor sleep quality. Those who reported having been affected by the pandemic had poorer subjective sleep quality, longer sleep latency, and greater daytime dysfunction. Those who experienced racist incidents were more likely to use sleep medication and exhibit poor subjective sleep quality, long sleep latency, short sleep duration, and daytime dysfunction. Chinese immigrants' sleep health warrants particular consideration by health care professionals. Timely, effective interventions, such as relaxation techniques and online psychoeducation, need to be delivered in the Chinese community. Positive family relationships are important for child well-being. However, family relationships are unique for youth in out-of-home child welfare placements because they involve both biological and foster parents. The aim of this study was to test the interactive association between current caregiver involvement and contact with biological parents on youths' externalising symptoms using a sample representative of youth in out-of-home child welfare placements in the United States. Findings supported a significant interaction between current caregiver involvement and the amount of biological parent contact on youths' externalising symptoms, such that there was a more pronounced buffering effect of high caregiver involvement on youth externalising symptoms when there was more frequent youth contact with biological parents. Results can be used to support education initiatives about the importance of visitation for caseworkers and parents, and interventions aimed at promoting positive biological family and foster parent relationships focused on the best interests of the child. Objective: The current study examined the sex- and age-specific structure and comorbidity of lifetime anxiety disorders among U.S. adolescents. Method: The sample consisted of 2,539 adolescents (1,505 females and 1,034 males) from the National Comorbidity Survey-Adolescent Supplement who met criteria for "Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders" (4th ed., text rev. ["DSM-IV-TR"]) lifetime anxiety disorders (American Psychiatric Association, 2000). Adolescents ranged in age from 13 to 18 years (M = 15.2 years, SE = 0.08 years) and were 39% non-White. Multiple-group latent class analysis was conducted by adolescent sex and age to identify subgroups of adolescents with similar anxiety disorder profiles. Developmental and clinical correlates of empirically derived classes were also examined to assess the nomological validity of identified subgroups. Results: A 7-class solution provided the best fit to the data, with classes defined primarily by one rather than multiple anxiety disorders. Results also indicated that classes displayed similar diagnostic profiles across age, but varied by sex. Classes characterized by multiple anxiety disorders were consistently associated with a greater degree of persistence, clinical severity, impairment, and comorbidity with other "DSM-IV-TR" psychiatric disorders. Conclusions: The presentation of lifetime anxiety disorders among adolescents and the observation of unique correlates of specific classes provide initial evidence for the utility of individual "DSM-IV-TR" anxiety disorder categories. Although findings of the present study should be considered preliminary, results emphasize the potential value of early intervention and gender-specific conceptualization and treatment of anxiety disorders. The purpose of this study was to test the Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II) for factorial invariance across Turkish and U.S. college student samples. The results indicated that (a) a two-factor model has an adequate fit for both samples, thus providing evidence of configural invariance, and (b) there is a metric invariance but "no" sufficient evidence of scalar invariance across the two groups of students. Testing for differential item functioning (DIF) was also conducted to further investigate the measurement variance of the BDI-II at the item level. Objective: To present estimates of the lifetime prevalence of "DSM-IV" mental disorders with and without severe impairment, their comorbidity across broad classes of disorder, and their sociodemographic correlates. Method: The National Comorbidity Survey-Adolescent Supplement NCS-A is a nationally representative face-to-face survey of 10,123 adolescents aged 13 to 18 years in the continental United States. "DSM-IV" mental disorders were assessed using a modified version of the fully structured World Health Organization Composite International Diagnostic Interview. Results: Anxiety disorders were the most common condition (31.9%), followed by behavior disorders (19.1%), mood disorders (14.3%), and substance use disorders (11.4%), with approximately 40% of participants with one class of disorder also meeting criteria for another class of lifetime disorder. The overall prevalence of disorders with severe impairment and/or distress was 22.2% (11.2% with mood disorders, 8.3% with anxiety disorders, and 9.6% behavior disorders). The median age of onset for disorder classes was earliest for anxiety (6 years), followed by 11 years for behavior, 13 years for mood, and 15 years for substance use disorders. Conclusions: These findings provide the first prevalence data on a broad range of mental disorders in a nationally representative sample of U.S. adolescents. Approximately one in every four to five youth in the U.S. meets criteria for a mental disorder with severe impairment across their lifetime. The likelihood that common mental disorders in adults first emerge in childhood and adolescence highlights the need for a transition from the common focus on treatment of U.S. youth to that of prevention and early intervention. Despite tobacco marketing diversification, limited research has examined use profiles across countries, particularly in relation to consumer values (e.g. appeal of innovation, conscientiousness). Using 2021 data, latent class analysis assessed past-month use of seven tobacco products (cigarettes, electronic cigarettes [e-cigarettes], heated tobacco products, cigars, hookah, pipe, smokeless) among adults reporting past-month use in the United States (US n = 382) and Israel (n = 561). Multivariable multinomial regression examined consumer values and sociodemographics in relation to country-specific class membership. US classes included: primarily cigarette 58.1%; e-cigarette–no cigarette 17.5%; primarily cigar 14.9%; and poly-product 9.9%. Higher innovation correlated with e-cigarette–no cigarette and poly-product (vs. primarily cigarette) use. Other correlates included being: younger with e-cigarette–no cigarette; male, Black, and more educated with primarily cigar; and Black and Asian (vs. White) with poly-product. Israel classes included: primarily cigarette 39.0%; moderate poly-product 40.3%; high poly-product 13.4%; and hookah 7.3%. Lower conscientiousness correlated with moderate poly-product (vs. primarily cigarette) use; higher innovation correlated with high poly-product; lower innovation correlated with hookah. Other correlates included being: younger, male, and more educated with moderate poly-product; male and sexual minority with high poly-product; and Arab with hookah. It is estimated that 50,000–60,000 pregnant people in the United States (US) experience severe maternal morbidity (SMM). SMM includes life-threatening conditions, such as acute myocardial infarction, acute renal failure, amniotic fluid embolism, disseminated intravascular coagulation, or sepsis. Prior research has identified both rising rates through 2014 and wide racial disparities in SMM. While reducing maternal death and SMM has been a global goal for the past several decades, limited progress has been made in the US in achieving this goal. Our objectives were to examine SMM trends from 1998–2018 to identify factors contributing to the persistent and rising rates of SMM by race/ethnicity and describe the Black non-Hispanic/White non-Hispanic rate ratio for each SMM condition. We used a population-based data system that links delivery records to their corresponding hospital discharge records to identify SMM rates (excluding transfusion) per 10, 000 deliveries and examined the trends by race/ethnicity. We then conducted stratified analyses separately for Black and White birthing people. While the rates of SMM during the same periods steadily increased for all racial/ethnic groups, Black birthing people experienced the greatest absolute increase compared to any other race/ethnic group going from 69.4 in 1998–2000 to 173.7 per 10,000 deliveries in 2016–2018. In addition, we found that Black birthing people had higher rates for every individual condition compared to White birthing people, with rate ratios ranging from a low of 1.11 for heart failure during surgery to a high of 102.4 for sickle cell anemia. Obesity was not significantly associated with SMM among Black birthing people but was associated with SMM among White birthing people [aRR 1.18 (95% CI: 1.02, 1.36)]. An unbiased understanding of how SMM has affected different race/ethnicity groups is key to improving maternal health and preventing SMM and mortality among Black birthing people. But which approach is the most cost-effective remains uncertain. Objectives: This study aims to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of first-line strategies in aHCC patients from the perspective of Chinese and US payers. Design: A network meta-analysis (NMA) and cost-effectiveness study. Data sources and methods: A NMA was conducted to collect all first-line strategies with aHCC from 1 October 1 2018 until 1 January 2022. The relevant randomized controlled trial literature in PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Library for the last 3 years were searched. The abstracts of meetings of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, European Society of Medical Oncology, and American Association for Cancer Research were also reviewed. A Markov model that included three states was developed. One-way sensitivity and probabilistic sensitivity analysis were performed to investigate the uncertainty of the economic evaluation. Scenario analysis was conducted to explore the economic benefits of treatment strategies in low-income populations. Results: Base-case analysis in China included 1712 patients showed that atezolizumab combined with bevacizumab, sintilimab combined with bevacizumab, lenvatinib (LEVA), and sorafenib (SORA) added 0.46, 1.25, 0.77, and −1.08 quality-adjusted life-years (QALYs), respectively, compared with donafenib, resulting in an incremental cost-effective ratio of $85607.88, $12109.27, and $1651.47 per QALY at a willingness-to-pay (WTP) of $11101.70/QALY. In the United States, only the incremental cost-effectiveness ratios (ICERs) of SORA was higher that were lower than the WTP threshold ($69375/QALY), and LEVA was the most cost-effective strategy with the ICERs were 25022.13/QALY. Conclusion: The NMA and cost-effectiveness analysis revealed that LEVA is the favorite choice in the first-line treatment of Chinese aHCC patients and US payers' perspective when the WTP was $11101.70/QALY in China and $69375.0/QALY in the United States. Purpose: This study was conducted to characterize the gender disparities within academic pain management departments in the United States, specifically focusing on its relation to research and academic leadership. This will allow for targeted improvements in efforts made to reduce gender gaps within academic pain medicine.  Methods: This is a retrospective, cross-sectional analysis study evaluating pain management faculty of various positions at academic institutions across the United States. We utilized publicly available data on faculty positions and sex to analyze research impact, H-index, number of publications and citations through bibliometric and linear regression analysis.  Results: Our analysis found that female faculty had significantly less research output to male faculty. The three research measurement indices used in this study including H-index, number of publications, and number of citations were significantly lower in females than in males among associate and full professor faculty ranking. Multivariable analysis did not display any significant disparities of research output at the division director and department chair level.  Discussion: As in many areas of medicine, there continues to be a significant gender disparity in academic pain management departments, particularly with regard to leadership positions and research impact within the field. Our study found that female pain physicians had a significantly less research output based on the three variables of H indices, number of publications, and number of citations compared to their male counterparts. This has been shown to have the impact on discrepancies in female faculty ranking. Interestingly, these variables were not significantly different between male and female faculty members of the same level of leadership except for program director. There are various contributory reasons for these disparities, including implicit biases, lack of mentorship, and familial obligations. Aims Prediction of mitral (MR) and tricuspid (TR) regurgitation progression on transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) is needed to personalize valvular surveillance intervals and prognostication. Methods and results Structured TTE report data at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, 26 January 2000–31 December 2017, were used to determine time to progression (≥1+ increase in severity). TTE predictors of progression were used to create a progression score, externally validated at Massachusetts General Hospital, 1 January 2002–31 December 2019. In the derivation sample (MR, N = 34 933; TR, N = 27 526), only 5379 (15.4%) individuals with MR and 3630 (13.2%) with TR had progression during a median interquartile range) 9.0 (4.1–13.4) years of follow-up. Despite wide inter-individual variability in progression rates, a score based solely on demographics and TTE variables identified individuals with a five- to six-fold higher rate of MR/TR progression over 10 years (high- vs. low-score tertile, rate of progression; MR 20.1% vs. 3.3%; TR 21.2% vs. 4.4%). Compared to those in the lowest score tertile, those in the highest tertile of progression had a four-fold increased risk of mortality. On external validation, the score demonstrated similar performance to other algorithms commonly in use. Conclusion Four-fifths of individuals had no progression of MR or TR over two decades. Despite wide interindividual variability in progression rates, a score, based solely on TTE parameters, identified individuals with a five- to six-fold higher rate of MR/TR progression. Compared to the lowest tertile, individuals in the highest score tertile had a four-fold increased risk of mortality. Background: The application of Kinesio Taping (KT) on the lower extremity of stroke patients can improve the quality of somatosensory information by activating lower extremity muscles involved in postural control. Gait analysis and surface electromyography (SEMG) are valuable in assessing the motor ability of the lower extremities. Objective: This study aimed to investigate the effects of KT therapy on gait and SEMG in stroke patients with hemiplegia. Methods: Twenty-one stroke patients were included in the study. KT was applied to the lower extremities of the hemiplegic side. Quantitative gait parameters were measured by a gait analysis system (IDEEA, by MiniSun, United States) and activation of the lower extremity muscles were evaluated by the SEMG (Trigno™ Wireless Systems, Delsys Inc., United States) before and after taping. Step length, stride length, pulling acceleration, swing power, ground impact, and energy expenditure were used to evaluate when patients walk as usual. SEMG signals were collected from the anterior bilateral tibialis (TA) and the lateral gastrocnemius (LG). The root mean square (RMS) value was used to assess muscle activity. SEMG signals were examined before and after KT treatment in three different locomotor conditions of the patients: walking at a natural speed, walking with a weight of 5 kg, dualtasking walking (walking + calculation task) while carrying a weight of 5 kg. The calculation task was to ask the patients to calculate the result of subtracting 7 from 100 and continuing to subtract 7 from the resulting numbers. Comparisons between two normally distributed samples (before and after KT treatment) were evaluated using the two-tailed, paired Student’s t-test. Results: Stride length (0.89 ± 0.19 vs. 0.96 ± 0.23; p = 0.029), pulling acceleration (0.40 ± 0.21 vs. 1.11 ± 0.74; p = 0.005), and swing power (0.42 ± 0.24 vs. 1.14 ± 0.72; p = 0.004) improved in the hemiplegia side after KT treatment. The RMS value of TA SEMG signals in the limbs on the hemiplegia side decreased after KT treatment during dual-tasking walking carrying a weight of 5 kg (3.65 ± 1.31 vs. 2.93 ± 0.95; p = 0.030). In the context of green aviation, as an internationally recognized solution, hydrogen energy is lauded as the "ultimate energy source of the 21st century", with zero emissions at the source. Developed economies with aviation industries, such as Europe and the United States, have announced hydrogen energy aviation development plans successively. The study and development of high-energy hydrogen fuel cells and hydrogen energy power systems have become some of the future aviation research focal points. As a crucial component of hydrogen energy storage and delivery, the design and development of a safe, lightweight, and efficient hydrogen storage structure have drawn increasing consideration. Using a hydrogen-powered Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) as the subject of this article, the crash characteristics of the UAV's hydrogen storage structure are investigated in detail. The main research findings are summarized as follows: (1) A series of crash characteristics analyses of the hydrogen storage structure of a hydrogen-powered UAV were conducted, and the Finite Element Analysis (FEA) response of the structure under different impact angles, internal pressures, and impact speeds was obtained and analyzed. (2) When the deformation of the hydrogen storage structure exceeds 50 mm, and the strain exceeds 0.8, an initial crack will appear at this part of the hydrogen storage structure. The emergency release valve should respond immediately to release the gas inside the tank to avoid further damage. We sought to determine which Salmonella serotypes cause illness related to the Thanksgiving holiday in the United States and to foods disproportionately eaten then (e.g., turkey). Aim: Bibliometric analysis of the nursing literature can provide insights into the current state and dynamics of the nursing profession. This study aimed to assess global nursing‐related research activity from 2009 to 2020. Method: The corpus of nursing papers was harvested from the Web of Science Core Collection database. The bibliometric indicators and VOSviewer mapping of the retrieved papers were presented. Results: The search found 109,782 papers, and 39.0% of papers reported funded studies. Publication numbers were increasing. The USA was the most prolific country in literature production and international collaboration in nursing studies. International cooperation in nursing research was dominated by developed regions. Among the 20 most cited articles, 75% were published in first quartile journals, and review papers received a higher number of citations than original research articles. Author keyword analysis identified 'quality of life', 'mental health', 'nursing students' education' and 'adolescent' as common nursing focus topics. Conclusions: The publication trend of nursing papers was positive. However, several problems were associated with nursing research activity, including low research funding, regionally centred research activity and inactivity of developing regions in terms of international collaborations, which need to be addressed by policy makers, nursing managers and scholars. Background: Case-control studies are commonly used to explore factors associated with enteric bacterial diseases. Control of confounding is challenging due to a large number of exposures of interest and the low frequencies of many of them.Methods: We evaluated nearest-neighbors matching in a case-control study (originally 1:1 matched, published in 2004) of sporadic Campylobacter infections that included information on 433 exposures in 2632 subjects during 1998-1999. We performed multiple imputations of missing data (m = 100) and calculated Gower distances between cases and controls using all possible confounders for each exposure in each dataset. We matched each case with ≤20 controls within a data-determined distance. We calculated odds ratios and population attributable fractions (PAFs).Results: Examination of pairwise correlation between exposures found very strong associations for 1046 pairs of exposures. More than 100 exposures were associated with campylobacteriosis, including nearly all risk factors identified using the previously published approach that included only 16 exposures and some less studied, rare exposures such as consumption of chicken liver and raw clams. Consumption of chicken and nonpoultry meat had the highest PAFs (62% and 59%, respectively).Conclusions: Nearest-neighbors matching appear to provide an improved ability to examine rare exposures and better control for numerous highly associated confounders.
