The article discusses the discouragement of public intellectuals in the U.S. The author declares that public intellectuals have good reason to be discouraged because they are taken less seriously by other intellectuals. Although they play a crucial role in the circulation, production and identity of knowledge, reduction of their discourse shows a sign of lack of respect for them. The author argues that the relationship of intellectuals to the academic and public-private sectors should be changed.
