The article presents an interview with author and winner of the 2010 Coretta Scott King award Vaunda Micheaux Nelson. Her reaction to winning the award, her research on African American Deputy U.S. Marshal Bass Reeves for her book "Bad News for Outlaws," and her interest in the history of the Western U.S. are discussed. Nelson also discusses her research of Western slang, her childhood in Elizabeth, Pennsylvania, and her work as a youth services librarian.
