Background: Taohong Siwu Decoction (THSWD) is a classic prescription of traditional Chinese medicine. Recent research has shown that the practical components of THSWD have specific curative effects on various cardiovascular diseases, including hypertension, suggesting THSWD could effectively lower blood pressure (BP) with fewer side effects. However, little information is available regarding the effectiveness of THSWD combined with antihypertensive medicine on hypertension., Objective: This meta-analysis aimed to study the efficacy and safety of THSWD in treating hypertension., Methods: According to the search strategy, 8 databases were searched, including China Knowledge Network (CNKI), Wanfang Database, VIP Database, Pubmed, China Biomedical Literature Database (CBM), web of science, EMBASE and Cochrane Library, for the randomized controlled trial of THSWD on hypertension. 9 RCTs were included and 827 patients were involved. This meta-analysis used RevMan 5.4 to evaluate the articles., Results: This review included 9 RCTs. All studies were THSWD with the antihypertensive drug compared with single antihypertensive western medicine. The total effective rate of THSWD combined with corresponding western medicine was significantly improved (Relative risk = 1.26; 95% CI: 1.16-1.37, P < .00001), which could effectively reduce the systolic BP (MD = -15.28 mm Hg; 95% CI: -20.17 to -10.40, P < .00001=, diastolic BP (MD = -9.70 mm Hg; 95% CI: -12.66 to -6.73, P < .00001), Triglycerides (MD = -1.48, 95%CI: -2.09 to -0.87, P < .00001), total cholesterol (MD = -1.43, 95% CI: -1.63 to -1.24, P < .00001) and low density lipoprotein cholesterol (MD = -0.93, 95% CI: -1.07 to -0.80, P < .00001). Compared with the single routine western medicine group, THSWD combined with the corresponding western medicine increased serum high-density lipoprotein (MD = 0.41, 95% CI: 0.35 to 0.46, P < .00001)., Conclusion: THSWD combined with antihypertensive drugs in treating hypertension was curative in lowering BP, improving blood lipid levels and reducing the incidence of adverse reactions compared to antihypertensive medications treatment. Soy isoflavones possess antioxidative, anti-inflammatory, anti-diabetic and phytoestrogenic properties. Soybean residue contains a fair amount of nutrients such as glycosylated isoflavones, minerals and dietary fibers, and is a substantial waste product produced from soymilk and tofu manufacturing. A solid-state fermentation of soybean residue by Rhizopus oligosporus or co-inoculated with Lactiplantibacillus plantarum improves the availability of isoflavones and GABA content which is attributed to ameliorated hyperglycemic symptoms in STZ-induced hyperglycemic mice. The effortless solid-state fermentation with present microbial manipulation supports an anti-hyperglycemia value-added application of soybean residue for functional food development. Background : Due to an awareness of the food crisis and with a rapidly rising prevalence of diabetes, recycling the substantial fibrous soybean residue disposed from soy industries has received consideration. Methods : Lactiplantibacillus plantarum was previously screened for active glutamate decarboxylase, and β-glucosidase activities were adopted for the fermenting of soybean residue using a traditional tempeh solid-state fermenting process with fungal Rhizopus oligosporus . Fermented soybean residue was chemically analyzed and functionally assessed in in vitro and in vivo hyperglycemic conditions. Results : A 48 h longer solid-state fermentation of the soybean residue co-inoculated with R. oligosporus and L. plantarum showed improved contents of isoflavone aglycones and GABA which were attributed to augmented antioxidative capacity, lowered ROS level, improved blood biochemistry, and better blood glucose homeostasis in STZ-induced hyperglycemic mice. Conclusion : The advantages of a food industrial effortless fermentation process, and a health nutritional endorsing anti-hyperglycemic value-added property offer a practical alternative in recycled soybean residue.

2,3,5,4'-Tetrahydroxystilbene-2-O-β-D-Glucoside (THSG) is the main active ingredient extracted from Polygonum multiflorum Thunb. (PMT), which has been reported to possess extensive pharmacological properties. Nevertheless, the exact role of THSG in pulmonary fibrosis has not been demonstrated yet. The main purpose of this study was to investigate the protective effect of THSG against bleomycin (BLM)-induced lung fibrosis in a murine model, and explore the underlying mechanisms of THSG in transforming growth factor-beta 1 (TGF-β1)-induced fibrogenesis using MRC-5 human lung fibroblast cells. We found that THSG significantly attenuated lung injury by reducing fibrosis and extracellular matrix deposition. THSG treatment significantly downregulated the expression levels of TGF-β1, fibronectin, α-SMA, CTGF, and TGFBR2, however, upregulated the expression levels of antioxidants (SOD-1 and catalase) and LC3B in the lungs of BLM-treated mice. THSG treatment decreased the expression levels of fibronectin, α-SMA, and CTGF in TGF-β1-stimulated MRC-5 cells. Conversely, THSG increased the expression levels of SOD-1 and catalase. Furthermore, treatment of THSG profoundly reduced the TGF-β1-induced generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS). In addition, THSG restored TGF-β1-induced impaired autophagy, accompany by increasing the protein levels of LC3B-II and Beclin 1. Mechanism study indicated that THSG significantly reduced TGF-β1-induced increase of TGFBR2 expression and phosphorylation of Smad2/3, Akt, mTOR, and ERK1/2 in MRC-5 cells. Background: Epidermal growth factor receptor inhibitors (EGFRIs) and tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) are key drugs in targeted cancer therapy. However, they may cause skin toxicity. We previously prepared a modified Huang-Lian-Jie-Du (mHLJD) decoction cream using 10 herbs, which effectively alleviated EGFRI/TKI-induced skin toxicity. In the present study, we identified the reference markers of the mHLJD decoction and investigated the anti-inflammatory and antibacterial effects of the mHLJD decoction extract., Methods: We performed high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) to determine the composition of the mHLJD decoction. Human epidermoid A431 cells were treated with tumor necrosis factor (TNF)- α to induce inflammation; then, the effects of the mHLJD decoction extract on the cytokine expression were determined using a cytokine array and by performing real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR). The antibacterial effects of the extract were examined using disk diffusion and microdilution assays., Results: HPLC results revealed that the mHLJD decoction primarily consisted of geniposide, berberine chloride, baicalin, coptisine, and palmatine. TNF- α treatment increased the expression of certain cytokines, including IL-1 β , IL-8, M-CSF, and TGF- β 2; however, pretreatment with the mHLJD decoction extract reduced their expression. The qPCR results demonstrated a decreased mRNA expression of IL-8, M-CSF, and TGF- β 2. The antibacterial assay revealed that the extract exerted inhibitory effects on Staphylococcus aureus , forming an inhibition zone at the minimum inhibitory concentrations of 3.125 and 6.25 mg/mL; however, the extract exerted no effects on Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Conclusions . We developed an HPLC method to quantify the reference markers of the mHLJD decoction. Nonparametric maximum likelihood estimation encompasses a group of classic methods to estimate distribution-associated functions from potentially censored and truncated data, with extensive applications in survival analysis. These methods, including the Kaplan-Meier estimator and Turnbull's method, often result in overfitting, especially when the sample size is small. We propose an improvement to these methods by applying kernel smoothing to their raw estimates, based on a BIC-type loss function that balances the trade-off between optimizing model fit and controlling model complexity. In the context of a longitudinal study with repeated observations, we detail our proposed smoothing procedure and optimization algorithm. With extensive simulation studies over multiple realistic scenarios, we demonstrate that our smoothing-based procedure provides better overall accuracy in both survival function estimation and individual-level time-to-event prediction (imputation) by reducing overfitting. Our smoothing procedure decreases the bias (discrepancy between the estimated and true simulated survival function) using interval-censored data by up to 48% compared to the raw un-smoothed estimate, with similar improvements of up to 34% and 23% in within-sample and out-of-sample prediction, respectively. Our smoothing algorithm also demonstrates significant overall improvement across all three metrics when compared to a popular semiparametric B-splines estimation method. Finally, we apply our method to real data on censored breast cancer diagnosis, which similarly shows improvement when compared to empirical survival estimates from uncensored data. Oral proficiency is the core element of training courses for English tourist guides. This ability needs to be addressed in training program for English tourist guides. Cooperative learning method is widely used by educators as a teaching method, but rarely used to improve oral proficiency. A quasi-experimental design involving 60 participants was conducted to investigate and examine the effectiveness of cooperative learning method on the oral proficiency of learners in the English tourist guide training program. There were 30 learners in the control group and the experimental group, respectively. The experimental group adopted cooperative learning method, while the control group adopted traditional approach, in both of which pre-test and post-test were conducted. The results of the study showed that the impact of teaching with the cooperative learning method on the oral proficiency of learners of the training program for English tourist guides was higher than that of teaching with the traditional approach. Based on the tropical cyclone track data in the northwest Pacific Ocean from 2015 to 2020, meteorological observation data, and ozone concentration monitoring data in the Pearl River Delta (PRD), the impacts of four tropical cyclones, namely the westbound tropical cyclone (type A), East China Sea tropical cyclone (type B), offshore tropical cyclone (type C), and offshore tropical cyclone (type D), on ozone concentration in the PRD were analyzed. The results showed that:under the influence of the type A tropical cyclone, the risk of regional ozone concentration exceeding the standard exhibited little change. Under the influence of the type B tropical cyclone, the risk of ozone exceeding the standard in the PRD was obviously increased. Under the influence of the type C tropical cyclone, the risk of regional ozone exceeding the standard obviously increased, but the increase was weaker than that of the type B tropical cyclone. The type D tropical cyclone was far away from the Chinese mainland and had little influence on ozone concentration in the PRD. When the type A or type C tropical cyclones occurred, the average daily maximum 8-hour average ozone concentration (MDA8) in the PRD region increased by approximately 5 μg·m -3 , and the ozone MDA8 in some cities may have decreased. When the type B tropical cyclone occurred, the regional ozone MDA8 increased by 19 μg·m -3 on average, and the ozone concentration in all cities increased significantly. Among them, the average increase in ozone MDA8 in Zhuhai and Jiangmen was relatively large, with an increase of greater than 20 μg·m -3 . Generally speaking, the ozone concentration in cities in the western PRD was more affected by tropical cyclones. When the type B tropical cyclone occurred, solar radiation increased, sunshine duration lengthened, cloud cover decreased, air temperature rose, and relative humidity decreased in the PRD, all of which were beneficial to photochemical reactions. Meanwhile, downward flow increased in the boundary layer, and downward flow transported high-concentration ozone to the ground, which promoted the increase in ozone concentration on the ground. When type A or type C tropical cyclones occurred, the change in meteorological conditions was not entirely conducive to the increase in ozone concentration, and in some cases, even adverse meteorological conditions such as rainfall occurred, which led to the risk of regional ozone exceeding the standard being less than that of the type B tropical cyclone. Affected by tropical cyclones, sunshine hours and air temperature in western cities of the PRD increased more than those in eastern cities, which was more conducive to ozone generation.

Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) participate in many pathophysiological processes after traumatic brain injury by mediating neuroinflammation and apoptosis. Homeobox A11 antisense RNA (HOXA11-AS) is a member of the lncRNA family that has been reported to participate in many inflammatory reactions; however, its role in traumatic brain injury remains unclear. In this study, we established rat models of traumatic brain injury using a weight-drop hitting device and injected LV-HOXA11-AS into the right lateral ventricle 2 weeks before modeling. The results revealed that overexpression of HOXA11-AS aggravated neurological deficits in traumatic brain injury rats, increased brain edema and apoptosis, promoted the secretion of proinflammatory factors interleukin-1β, interleukin-6, and tumor necrosis factor α, and promoted the activation of astrocytes and microglia. Microglia were treated with 100 ng/mL lipopolysaccharide for 24 hours to establish in vitro cell models, and then transfected with pcDNA-HOXA11-AS, miR-124-3p mimic, or sh-MDK. The results revealed that HOXA11-AS inhibited miR-124-3p expression and boosted MDK expression and TLR4-nuclear factor-κB pathway activation. Furthermore, lipopolysaccharide enhanced potent microglia-induced inflammatory responses in astrocytes. Forced overexpression of miR-124-3p or downregulating MDK repressed microglial activation and the inflammatory response of astrocytes. However, the miR-124-3p-mediated anti-inflammatory effects were reversed by HOXA11-AS. These findings suggest that HOXA11-AS can aggravate neuroinflammation after traumatic brain injury by modulating the miR-124-3p-MDK axis. This study aimed to explore the psychological mechanisms behind the relationship between kindergarten parental satisfaction and parental loyalty. This study used the parental satisfaction scale, parental trust scale, parental relationship commitment scale, and parental loyalty scale on 923 kindergarten parents. The test was conducted on 923 kindergarten parents. The results of this study showed that parental satisfaction significantly and positively affected parental loyalty. Parental trust was partially mediated between parental satisfaction and parental loyalty. Parental relationship commitment was also partially mediated between parental satisfaction and parental loyalty. Regarding to parental satisfaction and parental loyalty, parental trust and parental relationship commitment had chain mediation effect between parental satisfaction and parental loyalty. Non-ferrous metal smelting activities have always been considered as one of the foremost anthropogenic sources of potentially toxic elements (PTEs). The enrichment factor (EF) and pollution load index (PLI) were used to evaluate the pollution level of soil PTEs; positive matrix factorization (PMF), correlation analysis, and geostatistics were utilized to quantify the sources of soil PTEs; and potential ecological risk (PER) and human health risk (HHR) of different sources from farmland, construction land, and natural land were quantifiably determined via combined PTE sources with PER and HHR assessment models. Taking the smelting area of Daye City as an example, the evaluation results of EF and PLI showed that the soil PTE pollution in the study area was serious, especially Cd and Cu. And four sources were quantitatively allocated as agricultural practices (12.14%), traffic emissions (23.07%), natural sources (33.46%), and industrial activities (31.33%). For PER, industrial activities were the largest contributor to PER, accounting for 55.66%, 56.30%, and 55.36% of farmland, construction land, and natural land, respectively, and Cd was the most dangerous element. In terms of HHR, industrial activities were also the cardinal contributors under the three land use types. Children were exposed to serious non-carcinogenic risks under three land use patterns and slight carcinogenic risk in construction land (1.06E - 04). Significantly, the carcinogenic risk of children in farmland (9.06 × 10 -5 ) was very close to the threshold (1 × 10 -4 ), which requires attention. Both non-carcinogenic and carcinogenic risk for adults were all at acceptable levels. The health risks (carcinogenic and non-carcinogenic risks) of children from four different sources were distinctly higher than those of adults. Resveratrol has been reported to exhibit neuroprotective activities in vitro and in vivo. However, little is known about resveratrol tetramers of hopeaphenol, vitisin A, and vitisin B with the same molecular mass in the improvement of degenerative disorders. In this study, two 95% ethanol extracts (95EE) from stem parts of Vitis thunbergii Sieb. & Zucc. (VT-95EE) and from the root (R) parts of Vitis thunbergii var. taiwaniana (VTT-R-95EE) showed comparable acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibitory activities. It was found that VT-95EE and VTT-R-95EE showed different distribution patterns of identified resveratrol and resveratrol tetramers of hopeaphenol, vitisin A, and vitisin B based on the analyses of HPLC chromatographic profiles. The hopeaphenol, vitisin A, and vitisin B, showed AChE and monoamine oxidase-B inhibitions in a dose-dependent manner, among which vitisin B and vitisin A exhibited much better activities than those of resveratrol, and had neuroprotective activities against methylglyoxal-induced SH-SY5Y cell deaths. The scopolamine-induced amnesiac ICR mice treated with VT-95EE and its ethyl acetate-partitioned fraction (VT-95EE-EA) at doses of 200 and 400 mg/kg, or vitisin A at a dose of 40 mg/kg, but not vitisin B (40 mg/kg), were shown significantly to improve the impaired learning behaviors by passive avoidance tests compared to those in the control without drug treatments ( p < 0.05). Compared to mice in the control group, the brain extracts in the vitisin A-treated mice or donepezil-treated mice showed significant reductions in AChE activities and malondialdehyde levels ( p < 0.05), and elevated the reduced protein expressions of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and BDNF receptor, tropomyosin receptor kinase B (TrkB). These results revealed that vitisin A was the active constituent in the VT-95EE and VTT-95EE, and the VT medicinal plant and that the endemic variety of VTT has potential in developing functional foods for an unmet medical need for neurodegenerative disorders.

Aims: The effects of subthalamic nucleus (STN)-deep brain stimulation (DBS) on brain topological metrics, functional connectivity (FC), and white matter integrity were studied in levodopa-treated Parkinson's disease (PD) patients before and after DBS., Methods: Clinical assessment, resting-state functional MRI (rs-fMRI), and diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) were performed pre- and post-DBS in 15 PD patients, using a within-subject design. The rs-fMRI identified brain network topological metric and FC changes using graph-theory- and seed-based methods. White matter integrity was determined by DTI and tract-based spatial statistics., Results: Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale III (UPDRS- III) scores were significantly improved by 35.3% (p < 0.01) after DBS in PD patients, compared with pre-DBS patients without medication. Post-DBS PD patients showed a significant decrease in the graph-theory-based degree and cost in the middle temporal gyrus and temporo-occipital part-Right. Changes in FC were seen in four brain regions, and a decrease in white matter integrity was seen in the left anterior corona radiata. The topological metrics changes were correlated with Beck Depression Inventory II (BDI-II) and the FC changes with UPDRS-III scores., Conclusion: STN-DBS modulated graph-theoretical metrics, FC, and white matter integrity. Brain connectivity changes observed with multi-modal imaging were also associated with postoperative clinical improvement. Background: Glioblastoma has a high degree of malignancy and poor prognosis. It is common to have in situ recurrence and intracranial metastasis, while extracranial metastasis is rare, and extracranial multiorgan metastasis is extremely rare. We report a case of glioblastoma with extracranial multiorgan metastasis, which will strengthen clinicians' attention to the extracranial metastasis of glioblastoma and its treatment., Case Summary: A male patient visited our hospital for treatment of dizziness and headache. Magnetic resonance imaging of the brain revealed a space-occupying lesion in the right temporoparietal occipital region. Chest computed tomography and abdominal ultrasound were normal, and no space-occupying lesions were observed in other organs of the body. The patient underwent surgery and diagnosed with glioblastoma. Postoperative concurrent radiotherapy and chemotherapy were completed. During the follow-up, the tumor was found to have metastasized to the scalp and neck, and a second tumor resection was performed. Postoperative follow-up revealed extracranial metastases to multiple extracranial organs including skull, scalp, ribs, spine, liver and lung. His family members refused further treatment, and requested only symptomatic treatment such as pain relief, and the patient died of systemic multiple organ failure. Survival time from diagnosis to death was 13 mo and from extracranial metastasis to death was 6 mo., Conclusion: Glioblastoma extracranial metastasis is extremely rare, clinicians should always pay attention to its existence. Exposure to ionizing radiation can cause cancer, especially in children. In computed tomography (CT), a trade-off exists between the radiation dose and image quality. Few studies have investigated the effect of dose reduction on image quality in pediatric neck CT. We aimed to assess the effect of peak kilovoltage on the radiation dose and image quality in pediatric neck multidetector-row CT. Measurements were made using three phantoms representative of children aged 1, 5, and 10 years, with tube voltages of 80, 100, and 120 kilovoltage peak (kVp); tube current of 10, 40, 80, 120, 150, 200, and 250 mA; and exposure time = 0.5 s (pitch, 0.984:1). Radiation dose estimates were derived from the dose-length product with a 64-multidetector-row CT scanner. Images obtained from the control protocol (120 kVp) were compared with the 80- and 100-kVp protocols. The effective dose (ED) was determined for each protocol and compared with the 120-kVp protocol. Quantitative analysis entailed noise measurements by recording the standard deviation of attenuation for a circular 1-cm2 region of interest placed on homogeneous soft tissue structures in the phantom. The mean noise of the various kVp protocols was compared using the unpaired Student t-test. Reduction of ED was 37.58% and 68.58% for neck CT with 100 kVp and 80 kVp, respectively. The image noise level increased with the decrease in peak kilovoltage. Noise values were higher at 80 kVp at all neck levels, but did not increase at 100 kVp, compared to 120 kVp in the three phantoms. The measured noise difference was the greatest at 80 kVp (absolute increases<2.5 HU). The subjective image quality did not differ among the protocols. A volatile organic compounds(VOCs) emission source classification and accounting system from domestic sources in China was established for the period between 2010 and 2018. Suggestions for the prevention and treatment of VOCs from domestic sources were developed and proposed. The results showed that the total VOCs emission inventory from domestic sources in China in 2018 was 2518 kt. Architectural decoration, asphalt road paving, cooking, and rural household biomass use source were the four largest contributors, accounting for 69.22% of the total emissions. Chemical household products and urban and rural coal use contributed equally, accounting for 10.43% and 9.98%, respectively, whilst car repair accounted for 7.75%. Shandong, Sichuan, Henan, Guangdong, Jiangsu, and Hebei were the six provinces that contributed the most(36.01%). During the 2010-2018 period, China's domestic VOCs emissions increased at a rate of 0.43%, and after reaching a peak in 2013, the emissions began to decline at a rate of 2.23%. The reason for the decline was that, on the one hand, the cleaner energy consumption of residents made a contribution to the gradual reduction of domestic coal and biomass consumption. On the other hand, the gradual saturation of housing construction in some areas, which led to a decrease in the annual construction of the country. It is recommended to promote the comprehensive management of architectural decoration, cooking methods, and car repair, while paying attention to the VOCs emissions from asphalt road paving. Meanwhile, continue to optimize the energy use structure of domestic sources, and promote the pollution control of civil coal and household biomass combustion in accordance with local regulations and multiple measures.

Large-scale smelting activities release large amounts of potentially toxic elements (PTEs) in fine particles. These particles floating in the air eventually settle on leaves, roads, and even indoors. In smelting areas, indoor environments are generally considered relatively safe. However, these areas are not taken seriously and need to be assessed. This paper systematically studied pollution characteristics, main sources and health risks of ten potentially toxic elements, PTEs (Mn, Ni, Cu, Zn, Hg, Cd, As, Cr, Pb, and Tl), of dust samples from different indoor environments in smelting areas using various methods. Therefore, this study analyzed dust samples from 35 indoor environments. The enrichment factors showed that the indoor dust samples were extremely enriched by Cd and Cu and significantly enriched by Hg, Pb, As, and Zn. The result of the spatial distribution showed that the high-value PTEs were mainly distributed near the Cu smeltery. Three sources were quantitatively assigned for these PTEs, and they were industrial smelting and traffic activities (44.40%), coal-fired activities (18.11%), and natural existence (37.49%). Based on the calculation of health risk, the value of THI for children was 7.57, indicating a significant non-carcinogenic risk. For carcinogenic risk, the values of TCR for children and adults were 2.91×10 -2 and 2.97×10 -3 , respectively, which were much higher than the acceptable risk value 1×10 -4 . Combining health risk assessment with source discrimination, we found that the industrial discharges and traffic activities were the most main source of non-cancer and cancer risks. Agricultural waste from the hulls of water caltrop ( Trapa taiwanesis Nakai, TT-hull) was extracted by either steeping them in cold 95% ethanol (C95E), refluxing 95E, refluxing 50E, or refluxing hot water (HW) to obtain C95EE, 95EE, 50EE, and HWE, respectively. These four extracts showed acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibitory activities and free radical scavenging activities, as well as anti-non-enzymatic protein glycation in vitro. Eight compounds were isolated from TT-hull-50EE and were used to plot the chromatographic fingerprints of the TT-hull extracts, among which tellimagrandin-I, tellimagrandin-II, and 1,2,3,6-tetra-galloylglucose showed the strongest AChE inhibitory activities, and they also exhibited anti-amyloid β peptide aggregations. The scopolamine-induced amnesiac ICR mice that were fed with TT-hull-50EE or TT-hull-HWE (100 and 200 mg/kg) or tellimagrandin-II (100 and 200 mg/kg) showed improved learning behavior when evaluated using passive avoidance or water maze evaluation, and they showed significant differences ( p < 0.05) compared to those in the control group. The enriched hydrolysable tannins of the recycled TT-hull may be developed as functional foods for the treatment of degenerative disorders.

Rosiglitazone is a synthetic peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR)γ agonist widely used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. Recent studies have demonstrated that rosiglitazone displays anti-inflammatory effects. The present study aimed to investigate whether rosiglitazone alleviates decreases in RAW264.7 cell viability resulting from lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced inflammation, as well as exploring the underlying mechanism. A macrophage inflammatory injury model was established by treating RAW264.7 cells with 100 ng/ml LPS. Cells were divided into LPS and rosiglitazone groups with different concentrations. Cell viability was assessed by performing an MTT assay. The expression of inflammatory cytokines was detected by conducting enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays and reverse transcription-quantitative PCR. Nitric oxidesecretion was assessed using the Griess reagent system. The expression levels of key nuclear factor-κB pathway-associated proteins were detected via western blotting. Rosiglitazone alleviated LPS-induced decrease in RAW264.7 cell viability and inhibited inflammatory cytokine expression in a concentration-dependent manner. Rosiglitazone significantly inhibited LPS-induced upregulation of p65 phosphorylation levels and downregulated IκBα expression levels. However, rosiglitazone-mediated inhibitory effects were reversed by PPARγ knockdown. Our examination of high molecular weight polyphenolic constituents in the leaves of Barringtonia racemosa of the family Lecythidaceae uncovered 5 previously undescribed ellagitannins. One, barringtin M1 (1), among them was a hydrolysable tannin monomer, while remaining 4, barringtins D1 (2), D2 (3), D3 (4), and barricyclin D1 (5), were all dimers. Barricyclin D1 had a first macrocyclic structure formed from casuarictin (6) and tellimagrandin I (7), and the other ellagitannins had structures related to 5. Two additional known phenolics, valoneic acid dilactone (8) and schimawalin A (9), were also isolated from the leaves. Bioactive glass (BG) has been regarded as an excellent candidate for biomedical applications due to its superior properties of bioactivity, biocompatibility, osteoconductivity and biodegradability. Thus, in this study, we aimed to fabricate drug carriers that were capable of loading therapeutic antibiotics while promoting bone regeneration using macroporous BG microspheres, prepared by a spray drying method. Characterizations of particle morphology and specific surface area were carried out via scanning electron microscopy and nitrogen adsorption/desorption isotherm. Evaluations of in vitro bioactivity were performed based on Kokubo's simulated body fluid to confirm the formation of the hydroxyapatite (HA) layer after immersion. In addition, the in vitro drug release behaviors were examined, using tetracycline as the therapeutic antibiotic in pH 7.4 and 5.0 environments. Finally, the results showed that BG microspheres of up to 33 μm could be mass-produced, targeting various therapeutic situations and their resulting bioactivities and drug release behaviors, and related properties were discussed.

This study examined the prevalence of burnout and its association with quality of life (QOL) among psychiatric nurses in China.Ten psychiatric hospitals were included. Burnout and QOL were measured using standardized instruments. Altogether, 1449 nurses completed the assessment. The mean scores of emotional exhaustion (EE), depersonalization (DP) and personal accomplishment (PA) were 11.87 (SD = 6.72), 6.98 (SD = 5.71) and 22.06 (SD = 8.67), respectively. Of the participants, 59.8% (95% CI: 57-62%) experienced burnout; with 23.3% (95% CI: 21-25%) in EE, 14.6% (95% CI: 13-16%) in DP and 45.1% (95% CI: 43-48%) in PA. Psychiatric nurses who reported burnout had lower QOL in social (F (1, 1448)  = 86.20, P < 0.001), physical (F (1, 1448)  = 170.46, P < 0.001), psychological (F (1, 1448)  = 205.63, P < 0.001), and environmental (F (1, 1448)  = 120.24, P < 0.001) domains. Multiple logistic regression analysis revealed that alcohol users (P = 0.04; OR = 1.29, 95%CI: 1.01-1.64 in model 1 and P = 0.03; OR = 1.32, 95%CI: 1.04-1.69 in model 2) were significantly more susceptible to burnout, while senior nurses (P = 0.007; OR = 0.70, 95%CI: 0.53-0.91) and nurses with longer work experience (P = 0.02; OR = 0.70, 95%CI: 0.53-0.91) were less likely to develop burnout. Burnout is common in psychiatric nurses in China. In light of its negative impact on health and QOL, there is an urgent need for regular screening as well as effective preventive measures and interventions to reduce burnout within this at-risk occupational group.

This study aimed to establish the diagnostic reference levels (DRLs) for coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA) and coronary arterial calcium score (CACS) owing to a large variability in patient radiation dose and the lack of dose recommendations in Taiwan. Volume computed tomography dose index (CTDIvol) and dose-length product (DLP) were obtained using CCTAs and the CACS of 445 patients over a 3-y period in a single medical center in Taiwan. CCTAs were performed using routine protocols and 256-detector CT scanners. Electrocardiogram gating was retrospective. The obtained data were analyzed using Prism 6 to determine the 25th, 50th (median) and 75th DRL percentiles for CTDIvol and DLP. These DRL results were compared with existing DRLs from seven countries. The DRLs for CCTA determined from this survey were similar to the existing data from other countries. Background: Heparanase (HPSE) is considered to play an important role in the occurrence, development and carcinogenesis of ulcerative colitis (UC). There are no reports about the detection of HPSE mRNA in feces to predict UC activity and cancerization risk., Aims: To explore the feasibility and effectiveness of fecal epithelial HPSE mRNA in monitoring patients' UC activity and predicting cancer risk., Methods: The clinical part of the study enrolled 20 patients with UC and 20 controls. Meanwhile, a UC-induced carcinogenesis mouse model was established using a combination treatment of dimethylhydrazine and dextran sulfate sodium. Tissue expression of HPSE protein was detected by immunohistochemistry. RT-qPCR was used to detect the expression of HPSE mRNA in colonic mucosa and feces., Results: In the human study, the relative expressions of HPSE mRNA in colonic mucosa and feces were positively correlated with the Mayo score (P < 0.05), and with a significant correlation between feces and colonic mucosa (P < 0.05). In the mouse model, the relative expressions of HPSE mRNA in colonic mucosa and feces in the ulcerative colitis-associated colorectal cancer group was significantly higher than that of the UC group and the normal control group (P < 0.05), and with a significant correlation between feces and colonic mucosa (P < 0.05)., Conclusions: The relative level of HPSE mRNA was positively correlated with UC activity and cancerization. The relative level of HPSE mRNA in feces was correlated with that in colonic mucosa. The detection of HPSE mRNA in feces can be used as a new marker for disease monitoring and cancer risk prediction of UC.

The purpose of this study was to explore the effect of miR-34c on PDGF-BB-induced HAVSMCs phenotypic transformation and proliferation via PDGFR-β/SIRT1 pathway, so as to find a new method for early diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease. HA-VSMCs were treated with platelet-derived growth factor-BB (PDGF-BB) at 0 h, 12 h, 24 h, 48 h or 36 h to explore the optimal time for phenotypic transformation of VSMCs. And then, PDGF-BB-induced HA-VSMCs were transfected with miR-34c mimics/mimics NC and pcDNA3.1-PDGFR-β/pcDNA3.1-NC to observe cell biological behaviour. CCK8 was used to detect cell proliferation activity. Transwell chamber assay was used to detect cell invasion. Early apoptosis was analyzed by flow cytometry. The expression of α-SMA and Smemb was detected by immunofluorescence staining. The expressions of PDGFR-β, IRF9, Acetyl-NF-κB/p65, Acetyl-p53 and CyclinD1 were analyzed by Western blot analysis. The expression of miR-34a, miR-34b and miR-34c was detected by RT-PCR, and the targeting relationship between miR-34c and PDGFR-β was detected by luciferase reporting assay. The results indicated the proliferation and migration of PDGF-BB-induced HA-VSMCs significantly increased, and apoptosis significantly decreased. Besides, α-SMA decreased significantly, while Smemb increased significantly. Furthermore, expressions of PDGFR-β, IRF9, Acetyl-NF-κB/p65, Acetyl-p53 and CyclinD1 increased significantly, and SIRT1 decreased significantly. Experimental results showed that, miR-34c mimics significantly inhibited cell proliferation and migration, and promoted cell apoptosis, and miR-34c inhibitor had the opposite effects. MiR-34c mimics significantly increased α-SMA expression and decreased Smemb expression, while the opposite effects were reflected after transfection with miR-34c inhibitor. Moreover, miR-34c mimics significantly decreased the expressions of PDGFR-β, IRF9, Acetyl-NF-κB/p65, Acetyl-p53 and CyclinD1, and significantly increased the expression of SIRT1, while miR-34c inhibitor had the opposite effects. Luciferase assay confirmed that PDGFR-β was a potential target of miR-34c. Subsequently, PDGF-BB-induced HA-VSMCs were co-transfected with miR-34c mimics and pcDNA3.1-PDGFR-β. The results indicated that PDGFR-β reversed the biological function of miR-34c mimic. The results revealed the potential application value of miR-34c as a marker molecule of phenotypic transformation, providing a potential target for improving phenotypic transformation.

Solitary fibrous tumor is a very rare mesenchymal tumor that occurs mostly in the pleura, and there are few reported cases of a presence in the central nervous system, particularly in the cerebellum. In 2016, the WHO classified solitary fibrous tumors into grade I. In this article, we present a case of malignant solitary fibrous tumor recurring 8 years after surgery in a 63-year-old male. Magnetic resonance imaging showed low to intermediate mixed signal intensity on T1W1. Immunohistochemical staining positivity for Vimentin, CD99, CD34 and Bcl-2, it is consistent with the immunohistochemical characteristics of solitary fibrous tumor. We resected the patient's tumor, and the patient was followed up for 3 months with no signs of recurrence. Solitary fibrous tumors are very rare in the central nervous system. Immunohistochemical staining positivity for CD34 and Bcl-2 is strongly expressed in most solitary fibrous tumor. Surgical resection is the preferred treatment. Objective: Poor oral health is common in dementia, but findings of epidemiological studies have been inconsistent. This meta-analysis examined oral health in patients with dementia diagnosed according to standardized diagnostic criteria., Methods: Six international databases (PubMed, EMBASE, PsycINFO, Medline, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science) were searched from their commencement date until 8 November 2018. Oral health was measured by the Remaining Teeth (RT) and Decayed, Missing, and Filled Teeth (DMFT) Index. The mean differences (MD) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) of DMFT Index total and component scores were calculated using a random-effect model., Results: Twenty-four studies were included for analyses. The pooled DMFT Index was 23.48 (95% CI: 22.34, 24.62), while the pooled score for each component was 2.38 (95% CI: 1.56, 3.20) in decayed teeth (DT), 18.39 (95% CI: 15.92, 20.87) in missing teeth (MT), 2.29 (95% CI: 0.62, 3.95) in filled teeth (FT), and 11.59 (95% CI: 9.14, 14.05) in RT. Compared to controls, people with dementia had significantly a higher DMFT Index total score (MD = 3.80, 95% CI: 2.21, 5.39, p < 0.00,001), and significantly lower number of RT (MD = -3.15, 95% CI: -4.23, -2.06, p < 0.00,001). Subgroup analyses revealed that higher DMFT Index score was significantly associated with year of survey (>2010), study design (case-control study), percentage of females (≤54.3), and the Mini Mental State Examination score (≤18.2). Higher MT score was significantly associated with study design (cross-sectional study), and lower FT score was significantly associated with year of survey (>2010)., Conclusions: Oral health was significantly poorer in people with dementia compared with controls. Vitamin K 2 (VK2), found to act to treat hypertension, has been widely used in the food and pharmaceutical industries nowadays. However, the potential targets and molecular mechanisms of VK2 for salt-sensitive hypertension have not been fully investigated. Therefore, the study aimed to investigate the potential molecular mechanisms of VK2 for salt-sensitive hypertension using network pharmacology and 16S rRNA sequencing strategy. The network pharmacology-based findings from KEGG enrichment analysis revealed that VK2-treated salt-sensitive hypertension was mechanically associated with the complement and coagulation cascades, calcium signaling pathway, renin-angiotensin system, etc. A total of 29 different bacteria in an animal experiment after VK2 supplementation were screened and functionally enriched using PICRUSt2. Additionally, 10 signaling pathways were identified in which the renin-angiotensin system was found to be the potential molecular mechanisms with the greatest change in multiple and statistical significance. Moreover, the results of the renin-angiotensin system-related protein expression exhibited VK2-inhibited renin-angiotensin system in salt-induced hypertensive mice, which significantly verified the previous biological and functional prediction analysis. Finally, spearman correlation analysis showed the different bacteria such as Dubosiella, Ileibacterium , etc., had a positive or negative correlation with renin-angiotensin system-related proteins in salt-induced mice. Background: This study aims to investigate the value of radiomics parameters derived from contrast enhanced (CE) MRI in differentiation of hypovascular non-functional pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (hypo-NF-pNETs) and solid pseudopapillary neoplasms of the pancreas (SPNs)., Methods: Fifty-seven SPN patients and twenty-two hypo-NF-pNET patients were enrolled. Radiomics features were extracted from T1WI, arterial, portal and delayed phase of MR images. The enrolled patients were divided into training cohort and validation cohort with the 7:3 ratio. We built four radiomics signatures for the four phases respectively and ROC analysis were used to select the best phase to discriminate SPNs from hypo-NF-pNETs. The chosen radiomics signature and clinical independent risk factors were integrated to construct a clinic-radiomics nomogram., Results: SPNs occurred in younger age groups than hypo-NF-pNETs (P < 0.0001) and showed a clear preponderance in females (P = 0.0185). Age was a significant independent factor for the differentiation of SPNs and hypo-NF-pNETs revealed by logistic regression analysis. With AUC values above 0.900 in both training and validation cohort (0.978 [95% CI, 0.942-1.000] in the training set, 0.907 [95% CI, 0.765-1.000] in the validation set), the radiomics signature of the arterial phase was picked to build a clinic-radiomics nomogram. The nomogram, composed by age and radiomics signature of the arterial phase, showed sufficient performance for discriminating SPNs and hypo-NF-pNETs with AUC values of 0.965 (95% CI, 0.923-1.000) and 0.920 (95% CI, 0.796-1.000) in the training and validation cohorts, respectively. Delong Test did not demonstrate statistical significance between the AUC of the clinic-radiomics nomogram and radiomics signature of arterial phase., Conclusion: CE-MRI-based radiomics approach demonstrated great potential in the differentiation of hypo-NF-pNETs and SPNs.

Natural products are an important source of new drugs. Some of them may be used directly in clinical settings without further structural modification. One of these directly used natural products is puerarin (Pue), which protects cardiomyocytes against oxidative stress and high glucose stress. Although Pue has been used in clinics for many years, its direct binding targets involved in the protection of cardiomyocytes are not yet fully understood. Here, we reported that Pue could prevent cardiomyocytes from apoptosis under H 2 O 2 and high glucose conditions. Based on affinity-based protein profiling methods, we synthesized an active Pue probe (Pue-DA) with a photosensitive crosslinker to initiate a biological orthogonal reaction. Because of the steric hindrance of Pue-DA, two conformational isomers (syn and anti) unequivocally existed in the probe, and these transformed into one isomer when the probe was heated at 60 °C. We confirmed that the alkylation was on the 7-position phenol group of Pue. Mass spectroscopy revealed that Pue-DA can bind with three proteins, namely CHAF1B, UBE2C, and UBE2T. Finally, cellular thermal shift assay showed that Pue has the ability to stabilize CHAF1B stabilization. The knock-down of CHAF1B reduced the protective effect of Pue on cardiomyocytes. To make pollution evaluation of potentially hazardous elements in the soil more accurately, the regional geochemical baseline concentrations of eight potentially hazardous elements (Cr, Ni, Cu, Zn, As, Cd, Hg, and Pb) were established in Huilai County using cumulative frequency distribution curves. Then, the pollution load index and enrichment factor were applied to estimate the contamination levels, based on these geochemical baseline concentrations. The results suggested that topsoil was moderately polluted by potentially hazardous elements, while Cd pollution in the construction land and As pollution in the farmland was relatively severe. The possible sources of eight potentially hazardous elements were analyzed by correlation analysis, geostatistics and positive matrix factorization. Four sources have been determined and apportioned, namely industrial activities, natural sources, agricultural practices, and traffic emissions. Combining the health risk assessment with the source profiles, the health risks quantified from four sources were estimated under farmland, construction land, and woodland. The results showed that agricultural practices were the most main source of non-cancer and cancer risks under woodland and farmland for adults; industrial activities were the most main source of non-cancer and cancer risks under construction land for adults. Children's health risks, both carcinogenic risk and non-carcinogenic risk, were greater than adults, and the health risk trends of adults and children showed similarities. Therefore, agricultural practices under woodland and farmland should be controlled and managed as a priority, while industrial activities should be given priority to control and management under construction land., (Copyright © 2020 The Authors. Based on the monitoring data of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Pearl River Delta Regional (PRD) Air Quality Monitoring Network from 2006 to 2019, the ozone trend in RRD was analyzed using the Mann-Kendall test method, Sen's slope method, and the Pettitt change point test. The results show that:① the average ozone concentration in the PRD has increased significantly from 2006 to 2019 ( P <0.05), with an average growth rate of 0.80 μg·(m 3 ·a) -1 . After 2016, the rate of ozone increase has accelerated. ② The average annual ozone concentration in the central PRD increased significantly, while in the peripheral areas of the PRD, this is not obvious. Ozone increases significantly in summer but not in other seasons.③ From 2006 to 2019, the concentration of NO 2 in the central PRD decreased remarkably, so the titration effect weakened and resulted in an increase in the ozone concentration. The concentration of NO 2 in the marginal areas of the PRD has little change, so the ozone concentration in these areas has little change. ④ With the changes of VOCs and NO 2 concentrations, the chemical sensitivity of O 3 production in the PRD is changing. The VOC-limited regimes are continuously decreasing, and the mixed NO x -VOC-limited regimes and NO x -limited regimes are increasing. In order to deal with regional ozone pollution, the cooperative control of VOCs and NO x needs to strengthen.

Architectural decoration is an important anthropogenic emission source of VOCs in China, and there are few studies on the emission of VOCs from architectural adhesives. In this study, the VOCs content level and emission factors of various architectural adhesives were measured and then, a VOC emission inventory of architectural adhesives in China from 2013 to 2017 was established by a top-down emission factor method. Results showed that the comprehensive VOCs emission factor of architectural adhesives was 97.0 kg·t -1 , of which 543 kg·t -1 was from solvent-based architectural adhesives, 45 kg·t -1 was from water-based architectural adhesives, and 63 kg·t -1 was from bulk architectural adhesives. The VOCs emissions from architectural adhesives were 165 kt, 181 kt, 188 kt, 201 kt, and 219 kt from 2013 to 2017 in China. The contribution of VOCs emission of various disparate architectural adhesives was 25.5%, 23.6%, and 50.9% for water-based, bulk, and solvent-based types, respectively. Shandong, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Sichuan, Guangdong, Henan, Yunnan, and Fujian provinces contributed significant amounts, with a total emission of 120 kt in 2017, accounting for nearly 55% of the total VOCs emission for architectural adhesives.

Although the rate of cigarette smoking is high in schizophrenia patients, the prevalence of smoking cessation in this group is reportedly low. This meta-analysis aimed to examine the prevalence of cessation among schizophrenia patients worldwide. A systematic literature search in PubMed, PsycINFO, Medline, EMBASE, Cochrane Library and Web of Science was performed from their inception date until 15 November 2018. Studies that reported prevalence of smoking cessation were synthesized using a random-effects model. Fourteen studies were included. The pooled prevalence of smoking cessation among schizophrenia patients was 14.0 % (95 % CI: 9.2-18.8 %; I 2  = 97.3 %). Compared with schizophrenia patients, both healthy controls (OR = 0.45, 95 % CI:0.38-0.54, p < 0.001) and controls with other psychiatric disorders (OR = 0.79, 95 % CI:0.63-0.99, p = 0.004) had significantly higher prevalence of cessation. Subgroup and meta-regression analyses found that year of survey (after 2005), duration of smoking cessation (<6 months), outpatient setting and poor study quality were significantly associated with higher prevalence of smoking cessation. This meta-analysis found that the prevalence of smoking cessation was significantly lower among schizophrenia patients compared to healthy control and those with other psychiatric disorders. Better understanding of the barriers to smoking cessation and more effective measures for quitting smoking should be developed for patients with schizophrenia., (Copyright © 2020. Objective: Insomnia is a major health challenge in the general population, but the results of the gender differences in the epidemiology of insomnia have been mixed. This is a meta-analysis to examine the gender difference in the prevalence of insomnia among the general population. Methods: Two reviewers independently searched relevant publications in PubMed, EMBASE, PsycINFO, Web of Science from their inception to 16 April 2019. Studies that reported the gender-based prevalence of insomnia according to the international diagnostic criteria were included for analyses using the random-effects model. Results: Eventually 13 articles were included in the meta-analysis. The pooled prevalence of insomnia in the general population was 22.0% [ n = 22,980, 95% confidence interval (CI): 17.0-28.0%], and females had a significantly higher prevalence of insomnia compared with males (OR = 1.58, 95% CI: 1.35, 1.85, Z = 5.63, p < 0.0001). Subgroup analyses showed that greater gender difference was associated with the use of case-control study design and consecutive sampling method. Meta-regression analyses also revealed that higher proportion of females and better study quality were significantly associated with greater gender difference. Conclusions: This meta-analysis found that the prevalence of insomnia in females was significantly higher than males in the included studies. Activating transcription factor 4 (ATF4), which regulates genes associated with endoplasmic reticulum stress, apoptosis, autophagy, the gut microbiome, and metabolism, has been implicated in many diseases. However, its mechanistic role in hypertension remains unclear. In the present study, we investigated its role in salt-sensitive hypertensive mice. Wild-type (WT) C57BL/6J mice were used to establish Atf4 knockout (KO) and overexpression mice using CRISPR-Cas9 and lentiviral overexpression vectors. Then, fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) from Atf4 ± mice and vitamin K 2 (VK2) supplementation were separately carried out in high-salt-diet (8% NaCl)-induced mice for 4 weeks. We found that Atf4 KO inhibited and Atf4 overexpression enhanced the increase in blood pressure and endothelial dysfunction induced by high salt intake in mice, while regulating the gut microbiota composition and VK2 expression. It was further verified that ATF4 is involved in the regulation of salt-sensitive hypertension and vascular endothelial function, which is achieved through association with gut microbiota and may be related to VK2 and different bacteria such as Dubosiella . In addition, we found that VK2 supplementation prevents the development of salt-sensitive hypertension and maintains vascular endothelial function; moreover, VK2 supplementation increases the abundance of intestinal Dubosiella and downregulates the relative expression of Atf4 in the thoracic aorta of mice. We conclude that ATF4 plays an important role in regulating gut microbiota and VK2 production, providing new insights into the association between ATF4 and development of salt-induced hypertension in mice, meanwhile contributing to the development for a new preventive strategy of hypertension., (Copyright © 2020 Liu, Tao, Liang, Tu, Xiao and Chen.)

An industrial volatile organic compounds (VOCs) emission inventory was developed in China in 2018. It was based on the emission factors method, using a revised and updated source classification system and emission factors of key industrial sources. Results showed that the total industrial VOCs emission in China in 2018 reached as high as 12698 kt. Processes using products containing VOCs were the largest contributors, accounting for 59% of the total emission. The industrial coating industry, printing, the basic organic chemical industry, gasoline storage and transport, and the oil refinery industry were the five largest emitters, accounting for 54% of the total emission. Guangdong, Shandong, Zhejiang, and Jiangsu were the four largest emission contributors, contributing to 41% of the total emission. Hainan, Ningxia, Tibet, Heilongjiang, and Xinjiang showed the largest VOCs emission intensities, with more than 80 t·(100 million yuan) -1 . Processes using products containing VOCs were the main emission contributors in most provinces. The uncertainty for the total industrial VOCs emission in 2018, based on a Monte Carlo simulation, was[-32%, 48%] at the 95% confidence interval.

Objective : Poor sleep quality is common in nursing staff. This meta-analysis aimed to examine the pooled prevalence of poor sleep quality in nursing staff. Methods : A systematic search in PubMed, EMBASE, PsycINFO, and Web of Science databases was performed. Studies that reported sleep quality measured by the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) were synthesized using a random-effects model. Results : Fifty-three studies were analyzed. The pooled prevalence of poor sleep quality was 61.0% (95% CI: 55.8-66.1%). The pooled total PSQI score was 7.13 ± 0.18 (95% CI: 6.78-7.50). The pooled component scores were 1.47 ± 0.20 (95% CI of mean score: 1.08-1.85) in sleep latency, 0.91 ± 0.15 (95% CI of mean score: 0.61-1.21) in sleep duration, 1.59 ± 0.13 (95% CI of mean score: 1.35-1.84) in overall sleep disturbances, 0.33 ± 0.18 (95% CI of mean score: 0-0.67) in sleeping medication, 1.21 ± 1.20 (95% CI of mean score: 0.83-1.60) in daytime dysfunction, 1.39 ± 0.14 (95% CI of mean score: 1.11-1.67) in subjective sleep quality, and 0.66 ± 0.11 (95% CI of mean score: 0.44-0.87) in habitual sleep efficiency. Subgroup and meta-regression analyses found that PSQI cutoff values, mean age, body mass index (BMI), sample size, study quality, and work experience moderated the prevalence of poor sleep quality. Conclusions : Poor sleep quality appears to be common in nursing staff. Considering its negative impact on health, effective measures should be taken to improve poor sleep quality in this population. Longitudinal studies should be conducted to examine the contributing factors of nurses' poor sleep quality.

Acne is a common skin condition observed in adolescents. Nutmeg ( Myristica fragrans Houtt) (MF) is a well-known traditional Chinese medicine; its major toxic components, safrole and myristicin, are rich in essential oils. Essential oils of MF (MFO) were extracted by hydrodistillation; the residue was extracted using 50% methanol (MFE-M). The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of MFE-M against Cutibacterium acnes and Staphylococcus aureus was 0.64 mg. Four compounds were obtained from MFE-M: myristicin ( 1 ), (+)- erythro -Δ 8' -7 S ,8 R - dihydroxy-3,3,5'-trimethoxy-8- O -4'-neolignan ( 2 ), (+)- erythro- Δ 8' -7-hydroxy-3,4,3',5'-tetramethoxy 8- O -4-neolignan ( 3 ), and e rythro -Δ 8' -7-acetoxy-3,4,3',5'-tetramethoxy-8- O -4'-neolignan ( 4 ). Compound 2 exerted the strongest antimicrobial activity, with MICs of 6.25 and 3.12 μg/mL against C. acnes and S. aureus , respectively. Moreover, 2 inhibited NO, PGE 2 , iNOS, and COX-2 levels in RAW 264.7 cells induced by LPS or heat-killed C. acnes ; NO production at 50% inhibitory concentrations (IC 50 ) was 11.07 and 11.53 μg/mL, respectively. Myristicin and safrole content was higher in MFO than in MFE-M. MFO and MFE-M caused no skin irritation after a single topical application in Wistar rats. MFE-M, with low safrole and myristicin content, did not cause skin irritation and exhibited an anti-acne effect; moreover, 2 was identified as the active substance. Therefore, MFE-M could be employed to develop anti-acne compounds for use in cosmetics.

Brassinosteroids (BRs) play important roles in regulating plant reproductive processes. BR signaling or BR biosynthesis null mutants do not produce seeds under natural conditions, but the molecular mechanism underlying this infertility is poorly understood. In this study, we report that outer integument growth and embryo sac development were impaired in the ovules of the Arabidopsis thaliana BR receptor null mutant bri1-116. Gene expression and RNA-seq analyses showed that the expression of INNER NO OUTER (INO), an essential regulator of outer integument growth, was significantly reduced in the bri1-116 mutant. Increased INO expression due to overexpression or increased transcriptional activity of BRASSINAZOLE-RESISTANT 1 (BZR1) in the mutant alleviated the outer integument growth defect in bri1-116 ovules, suggesting that BRs regulate outer integument growth partially via BZR1-mediated transcriptional regulation of INO. Meanwhile, INO expression in bzr-h, a null mutant for all BZR1 family genes, was barely detectable; and the outer integument of bzr-h ovules had much more severe growth defects than those of the bri1-116 mutant. Together, our findings establish a new role for BRs in regulating ovule development and suggest that BZR1 family transcription factors might regulate outer integument growth through both BRI1-dependent and BRI1-independent pathways., (© 2020 Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences.)

Resveratrol is one of the most well-known drugs used in the treatment of aging. However, the potential mechanisms of resveratrol on intestinal aging have not yet been fully investigated. Herein, we aimed to further explore the pharmacological mechanisms of resveratrol as a therapy for intestinal aging. We performed network construction and enrichment analysis via network pharmacology. Then a further animal experimental validation containing 20 female C57BL/6J (wild type, WT) and 16 female ATF4 +/- (knock down, KD) naturally aging mice and oral supplementary resveratrol (44 mg/kg/day) for 30 days were conducted. The expression of superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), catalase (CAT), linear alkylethoxylate (AE), and malondialdehyde (MDA) were measured by ELISA, the observation of pathological changes and apoptosis in intestinal tissue were performed by HE, PAS, and TUNEL staining, the ATF4/Chop/Bcl-2/Bax signaling pathway-related proteins and mRNAs expression were measured by western blotting and real-time PCR. The network pharmacology showed 132 targets of resveratrol on aging. The enrichment analysis showed resveratrol antiaging involved mainly included protein heterodimerization activity, apoptosis, etc. Then ATF4/Chop/Bcl-2/Bax signaling pathway in biological process of apoptosis was selected to verify the potential mechanisms. Animal studies showed resveratrol upregulated the relative expression of SOD, GSH-Px, CAT, AE, whereas it downregulated the relative expression of MDA in intestine compared with the control group. There was also higher relative expression of SOD, GSH-Px, CAT, AE, and lower relative expression of MDA in KD mice than that in WT mice. Moreover, there was higher relative expression of SOD, GSH-Px, CAT, AE, and lower relative expression of MDA in KD mice than that in WT mice after resveratrol treatment. Decreased ATF4, Chop, Bax but increased Bcl-2 proteins and mRNAs expression were determined after resveratrol treatment compared with the control group; lower ATF4, Chop, Bax but higher Bcl-2 proteins and mRNAs expression were found in KD mice than that in WT mice. Additionally, lower relative proteins and mRNAs expression of ATF4, Chop, Bax and higher relative expression of Bcl-2 in KD mice than that in WT mice after resveratrol treatment. Objective: Burnout is common in mental health nurses because of work-related stress. Burnout has a negative impact on nurses' health and work performance. The prevalence of high burnout in mental health nurses has been inconclusive across studies. This meta-analysis aimed to estimate the pooled prevalence of high burnout in mental health nurses in China., Methods: Electronic databases (PubMed, EMBASE, PsycINFO, Web of Science, CNKI, WanFang and SinoMed) were independently and systematically searched from their commencement date up to 14 May 2018. Studies that reported the prevalence of any of the 3 burnout dimensions (high Emotional Exhaustion (EE), Depersonalization (DP), and low Personal Accomplishment (PA)) as measured by the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) were included and analyzed using the random-effects model., Results: A total of 19 studies were included in this meta-analysis. The pooled prevalence of high EE was 28.1% (95% CI: 20.4-35.8%), DP was 25.4% (18.1-32.6%) and low PA was 39.7% (28.3-51.1%). Subgroup analyses found that short working experience, use of MBI-Human Services Survey (HSS), and younger age had moderating effects on prevalence of high burnout., Conclusions: Burnout is common in mental health nurses in China. Digital media is ubiquitous and produced in ever-growing quantities. This necessitates a constant evolution of compression techniques, especially for video, in order to maintain efficient storage and transmission. In this work, we aim at exploiting non-local redundancies in video data that remain difficult to erase for conventional video codecs We design convolutional neural networks with a particular emphasis on low memory and computational footprint. The parameters of those networks are trained on the fly, at encoding time, to predict the residual signal from the decoded video signal. After the training process has converged, the parameters are compressed and signalled as part of the code of the underlying video codec. The method can be applied to any existing video codec to increase coding gains while its low computational footprint allows for an application under resource-constrained conditions. Building on top of High Efficiency Video Coding, we achieve coding gains similar to those of pretrained denoising CNNs while only requiring about 1% of their computational complexity Through extensive experiments, we provide insights into the effectiveness of our network design decisions. In addition, we demonstrate that our algorithm delivers stable performance under conditions met in practical video compression: our algorithm performs without significant performance loss on very long random access segments (up to 256 frames) and with moderate performance drops can even be applied to single frames in high-resolution low delay settings.

The association between lung and intestine has already been reported, but the differences in community structures or functions between lung and intestine bacteria yet need to explore. To explore the differences in community structures or functions, the lung tissues and fecal contents in rats were collected and analyzed through 16S rRNA sequencing. It was found that intestine bacteria was more abundant and diverse than lung bacteria. In intestine bacteria, Firmicutes and Bacteroides were identified as major phyla while Lactobacillus was among the most abundant genus. However, in lung the major identified phylum was Proteobacteria and genus Pseudomonas was most prominent genus. On the other hand, in contrast the lung bacteria was more concentrated in cytoskeleton and function in energy production and conversion. While, intestine bacteria were enriched in RNA processing, modification chromatin structure, dynamics and amino acid metabolism. Starch is the major storage carbohydrate in plants and functions in buffering carbon and energy availability for plant fitness with challenging environmental conditions. The timing and extent of starch degradation appear to be determined by diverse hormonal and environmental signals; however, our understanding of the regulation of starch metabolism is fragmentary. Here, we demonstrate that the phytohormone brassinosteroid (BR) and redox signal hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ) induce the breakdown of starch in guard cells, which promotes stomatal opening. The BR-insensitive mutant bri1-116 accumulated high levels of starch in guard cells, impairing stomatal opening in response to light. The gain-of-function mutant bzr1-1D suppressed the starch excess phenotype of bri1-116 , thereby promoting stomatal opening. BRASSINAZOLE-RESISTANT1 (BZR1) interacts with the basic leucine zipper transcription factor G-BOX BINDING FACTOR2 (GBF2) to promote the expression of β-AMYLASE1 ( BAM1 ), which is responsible for starch degradation in guard cells. H 2 O 2 induces BZR1 oxidation, enhancing the interaction between BZR1 and GBF2 to increase BAM1 transcription. Mutations in BAM1 lead to starch accumulation and reduce the effects of BR and H 2 O 2 on stomatal opening. BACKGROUND TaohongSiwu decoction (THSWT), a traditional herbal formula, has been used to treat cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases such as essential hypertension (EH) in China. However, the pharmacological mechanism is not clear. To investigate the mechanisms of THSWT in the treatment of EH, we performed compounds, targets prediction and network analysis using a network pharmacology method. MATERIAL AND METHODS We selected chemical constituents and targets of THSWT according to TCMSP and UniProtKB databases and collected therapeutic targets on EH from Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man (OMIM), Drugbank and DisGeNET databases. The protein-protein interaction (PPI) was analyzed by using String database. Then network was constructed by using Cytoscape&#95;v3.7.1, and the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway enrichment was performed by using Database for Annotation, Visualization and Integrated Discovery (DAVID) software. RESULTS The results of our network pharmacology research showed that the THSWT, composed of 6 Chinese herbs, contained 15 compounds, and 23 genes regulated the main signaling pathways related to EH. Moreover, the PPI network based on targets of THSWT on EH revealed the interaction relationship between targets. These core compounds were 6 of the 15 disease-related compounds in the network, kaempferol, quercetin, luteolin, Myricanone, beta-sitosterol, baicalein, and the core genes contained ADRB2, CALM1, HMOX1, JUN, PPARG, and VEGFA, which were regulated by more than 3 compounds and significantly associated with Calcium signaling pathway, cGMP-PKG signaling pathway, cAMP signaling pathway, PI3K-Akt signaling pathway, Rap1 signaling pathway, and Ras signaling pathway. CONCLUSIONS This network pharmacological study can reveal potential mechanisms of multi-target and multi-component THSWT in the treatment of EH, provide a scientific basis for studying the mechanism.

Endophytic microorganisms absorb nutrients and prevent pathogen damage, supporting healthy plant growth. However, the relationship between endophytic bacteria and berberine synthesis in the medicinal plant Coptis teeta Wall. remains unclear. Herein, we explored the community composition of endophytic bacteria related to berberine in roots, stems, and leaves of wild-type and cultivated C. teeta . Endophytic bacterial communities were analyzed by 16S rRNA sequencing, and berberine content in roots was analyzed by high-performance liquid chromatography. Proteobacteria, Actinobacteria, and Bacteroidetes were the major phyla, and Mycobacterium , Salmonella , Nocardioides , Burkholderia-Paraburkholderia , and Rhizobium were the dominant genera in root, stem, and leaf tissues. Root berberine content was positively correlated with total N, total P, total K, and available K in rhizosphere soil. In addition, root berberine content was positively correlated with Microbacterium and norank&#95;f&#95;7B-8 , whereas soil total K was positively correlated with Microbacterium and Burkholderia-Paraburkholderia in roots. Our results demonstrated a clear correlation between dominant endophytic bacteria and berberine synthesis in C. teeta . Objective: To investigate the breakthrough incidence of invasive fungal disease(IFD) and side effects of posaconazole as primary prophylaxis during induction chemotherapy for acute myeloid leukemia(AML). Methods: A total of 206 newly diagnosed AML patients admitted to our department during January 2016 and December 2018 were enrolled in the study. Exclusive criteria were as followings including patients diagnosed as acute promyelocytic leukemia; those who received intravenous antifungal therapy after admission or had history of IFD one month before induction chemotherapy, or those with functional insufficiency of vital organs and those older than 65. Forty-seven patients received posaconazole (posaconazole group), 61 cases received voriconazole (voriconazole group) and 98 cases did not receive any prophylaxis (control group) during induction chemotherapy. Prophylactic efficacy and safety between posaconazole and voriconazole were compared. Results: During induction chemotherapy, five possible cases of IFD occurred in posaconazole group (10.6%); while 11 cases (18.0%) were in voriconazole group including 7 possible, 3 probable and 1 proven. Thirty-five cases (35.7%) in control group were diagnosed as IFD including 19 possible, 11 probable and 5 proven ones. The incidences of IFD in posaconazole and voriconazole group were significantly lower than that in control group ( P< 0.05). The difference of posaconazole group and voriconazole group was not significant ( P> 0.05). The reported adverse events in posaconazole group were significantly lower than those in voriconazole group [12.8%(6/47) vs. 32.8%(20/61), P< 0.05]. Conclusions: Posaconazole and voriconazole decrease IFD as primary prophylaxis during induction chemotherapy in patients with AML. The prophylactic effect of IFD with posaconazole is similar as voriconazole, but posaconazole shows better safety.

Gigantochloa verticillata is produced in Mengla and Jinghong, Yunnan Province, China, and cultivated in Hong Kong. Vietnam, Thailand, India, Indonesia, and Malaysia are distributed and cultivated. We determined the complete chloroplast genome sequence for G. verticillata using Illumina sequencing data. The complete chloroplast sequence is 139,489 bp, including large single-copy (LSC) region of 83,062 bp, small single-copy (SSC) region of 12,877 bp, and a pair of invert repeats (IR) regions of 21,775 bp. Plastid genome contain 132 genes, 85 protein-coding genes, 39 tRNA genes, and 8 rRNA genes.
