Wide bandgap devices such as gallium nitride (GaN) devices are being widely used due to their low on-resistance and parasitic parameters that can improve system performance compared to Si mosfets. However, these advantages mentioned above can sometimes lead to unexpected behavior in practical systems, such as false triggering oscillation. False triggering oscillation may cause overshoot, electromagnetic interference, shoot-through, and even device damage, which seriously affects the performance of the system. In this paper, an RC snubber circuit is proposed to suppress false triggering oscillation in a half-bridge circuit, and the design method of the RC parameters is proposed. The proposed oscillation suppression method is simpler, easier to implement, and more effective than the active gate driver. In addition, it can provide guidance for oscillation suppression design in high-order systems. First, the double pulse circuit is used as an example to analyze false triggering oscillation and its high-frequency equivalent circuit is obtained. Then, the RC region is established by scrutinizing the characteristic equations via a root locus method. The RC snubber circuit has better oscillation suppression effect when the RC parameters are within the region rather than outside the region. Finally, the RC region designed by the proposed method is verified by simulation and experiment results, and the proposed method indicates a substantial improvement of the switching characteristics of the controlled device at turn-off. Low-voltage enhancement-mode gallium nitride high electron mobility transistors (eGaN HEMTs) are a kind of promising devices to realize high-efficiency and high-power-density conversion because of their fast switching speed, low conduction, and switching losses. Since the reverse conduction loss of eGaN HEMTs accounts for a large part of switching losses, it is of great importance to improve the traditional switching analytical model to predict the reverse conduction loss. In this paper, a complete and accurate switching analytical model of low-voltage eGaN HEMTs is presented, which considers the effects of low-parasitic inductances, nonlinear junction capacitances and nonlinear transconductances. The turn-on and turn-off switching processes are described in detail, and the resulting equations are solved by using mathematical software such as MATLAB to predict the switching waveforms during the switching periods. And an accurate loss calculation method based on the proposed model is proposed including the reverse conduction loss. The accuracy of the proposed model is validated by comparing the predicted switching waveforms and the efficiency of a synchronous buck converter with the experimental results, respectively. Moreover, the proposed model is compared with the traditional model, which proves the advantages of the proposed model. In the end, according to the proposed complete model, the effect of the top switch (TS) gate resistance, the TS drain-source capacitance, power loop inductance, current ripple, the bottom switch (BS) gate resistance, the BS drain-source capacitance, and dead time on the loss breakdown of the synchronous buck converter is explored and some qualitative suggestions are given to improve the conversion efficiency based on these analyzing results. High step-up boost converters with coupled inductor have attracted much attention in the fuel cell or photovoltaic grid-connected generation system, however, there are few literatures elaborated on the construction ideas and derivation methods of them. Accordingly, in order to obtain a clear roadmap on the derivation and inner connection of these converters, a comprehensive review and analysis are presented in this paper. First, the basic boost converter with coupled inductor is regarded as the basic topology, and its merits and demerits are analyzed in detail. Then, in order to address these demerits, various step-up techniques are introduced, such as the rectifier circuit, the active-clamped circuit, the multi-winding coupled inductor, and the voltage doubler rectifier; and numerous new topologies are continuously proposed by combinations and equivalent simplifications. In addition to a detailed synthesis of each topology, a comparative and quantitative analysis among some important converters is presented, and the optimal one is chosen to build a 250 W prototype. Finally, based on comparisons and analysis, the main characteristics and inner connections of these high step-up boost converters with coupled inductor are identified and clarified. This paper presents a multi-period frame transient switching control (MP-TSC) scheme for buck converter with a controlled coupled inductor, aiming at improving the load transient response. The proposed buck converter utilizes a controlled coupled inductor as the output inductor. During a load transient, the coupled inductor is controlled as a small equivalent inductance so as to achieve fast transient regulation. While in the steady state, the coupled inductor behaves as a large inductance to reduce the output current ripple. Furthermore, on the basis of the proposed variable inductance circuit, an MP-TSC control scheme is proposed and implemented in a digital form. With the proposed control scheme, the load transient event is divided into n + 1 sub-periods, and in each sub-period, the capacitor-charge balance principle is used to determine the switching time sequence. Moreover, the control principle design and transient response index analysis are provided. Furthermore, its feasibility is validated in simulation and experiment with a 12–3.3V low-voltage high-current synchronous buck converter. Experimental results demonstrate that the voltage deviation of the proposed MP-TSC scheme (coupled coefficient of the controlled coupled inductor is 0.52) has improved by more than 79% compared to that with the auxiliary circuit disabled. The junction temperature fluctuation of an insulated-gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) is the most important factor of its aging failure, and smoothing the fluctuation is an effective way to improve the life of an IGBT. The existing methods for smoothing the fluctuation by active junction temperature control are not yet ready wide application, and exploring the different approaches to active junction temperature control is a hot topic. This paper presents a method of active junction temperature control that shifts the turn-off trajectory of an IGBT to adjust the IGBT turn-off loss for smoothing the junction temperature. The relationship between parameters of the adjusting circuit and turn-off loss is analyzed. On the basis of this analysis, a method of estimating the smoothing ability for the proposed active junction temperature control is deduced. Using an IGBT installed in a 1.2-MW direct-drive wind power converter as an example, the evaluation result shows that the proposed method can completely smooth the junction temperature fluctuation caused by a 40% rated load fluctuation. The use of chemical fungicides is costly and potentially harmful to the environment. The trend towards the environmentally-friendly pesticides has led to the search for new antifungal agents from various sources, including Chinese medicinal herbs. This study aimed to confirm the antifungal potential of selected Chinese medicinal herbs, under in vitro and greenhouse conditions, against Verticillium dahliae, the causal agent of Verticillium wilt of cotton. Preliminary screening of 26 medicinal herbs for antifungal potential showed varied responses, reducing the radial colony growth of V. dahliae, and fungicidal potential. The strongest efficacy was observed for extracts from Prunus mume and Rhus chinensis, followed by Coptis chinensis, Cortex phellodendri chinensis (dried bark of Phellodendron chinense) and Curcuma longa. The efficacy of the four most effective herbs (R. chinensis, P. mume, C. chinensis and C. phellodendri chinensis) under greenhouse conditions correlated with in vitro tests. However, Prunus mume and Rhus chinensis gave the greatest reduction in severity of Verticillium wilt. The greatest improvements in plant height, fresh weight and number of leaves were obtained with P. mume and R. chinensis, followed by C. chinensis and C. phellodendri chinensis. Greatest improvements in plant growth resulted from P. mume and R. chinensis. Alternative control with Chinese medicinal herbs showing the greatest antifungal potential could provide economical, safe and non-hazardous tools for management of Verticillium wilt and increased cotton quality from sustainable production. IGBT power module is the key component of the power electronic converter, but it has the lowest reliability. The junction temperature is the crucial factor which affects power module’s reliability. To some extent, the power handling capability of the converter depends on the thermal stress of the power module. Thermal management is an effective method to improve the reliability of power device, as well as enhance the power capability. For this purpose, this paper introduces the reliability design to the power converter’s traditional compensation controller design for the first time. A new concept of generalized dual-loop controller, which includes temperature control loop and electric power control loop, is proposed. The reliability and stability of the system are both considered, with the help of the hybrid controller, the power converter can operate steadily with higher reliability. The novelty of this paper is to improve the thermal control method of carrier frequency adjustment through experimental implementation during the full life cycle of the converter. The target is to control the temperature variation to be almost a constant value as well as extend the lifetime of the converter. IR sensor is used to measure the chip temperature of the unpackaged IGBT module. The temperature variation and the average temperature are all considered in thermal management, from the reliability improvement point of view. • The relationship between the operating points, solar irradiance and cell temperature is analyzed. • A multivariable small signal admittance model considering the solar irradiance and cell temperature is built. • In order to analyze the PV system stability with the model, a novel stability analysis method is proposed. The method can obtain the system stability under all operating points at a time, whereas current analysis methods do not. • More accurate stability results are obtained due to consideration of PV cell temperature. In recent years, solar photovoltaic (PV) power technology has been applied widely. The interaction between the PV generator and the grid, however, may cause the stability issue and oscillation in practical applications. Hence it is very important to analyze the stability of grid-connected PV system. Due to the fluctuation of solar irradiance, the operating characteristics of the grid-connected system alter, and the grid-connected system shows different stability at the altered operating points. Therefore, it is vital to analyze the grid-connected PV system stability at all operating points in the entire operation range. The impedance-based analysis method is a useful tool for stability analysis of the system. However, since the operating point of the system often alters continuously, it is difficult to use conventional impedance/admittance model to characterize the system performance. To overcome this drawback, this paper attempts to incorporate the solar irradiance into the conventional PV generator admittance model and develops a multivariable small signal admittance model for PV generator. Moreover, the PV cell temperature influence is also considered in the model. Further, a new analysis method is proposed to enable the stability analysis. Cotton fuzz fibers, like Arabidopsis trichomes, are elongated unicells. It is postulated that a transcriptional complex of GLABRA1 (GL1), GLABRA3 (GL3), and TRANSPARENT TESTAGLABRA1 (TTG1) might be in existence in Arabidopsis as evidenced by their physical interaction in yeast, and the complex regulates expression of GLABRA2 ( GL2) controlling trichome cell differentiation; it is also assumed that TRIPTYCHON (TRY) and CAPRICE (CPC) counteract the complex formation in neighboring cells. Here, the homologs GaMYB23 (a homolog of GL1), GaDEL65 (a homolog of GL3), GaTTG1, GaCPC and GaTRY were identified in Gossypium arboreum. We show that GaMYB23 can bind to and activate the promoters of GaCPC, GaGL2 and GaTRY, and that GaMYB23, GaTRY and GaTTG1 could interact with GaDEL65 in yeast and in planta. In situ analysis showed that GaMYB23, GaGL2, GaDEL65, and GaTRY were predominantly expressed in fuzz fiber, but GaTRY proteins were primarily found in undeveloped epidermal cells. A G. arboreum fuzzless mutant with consistently high level GaMYB23 transcript has lost the detectable GaMYB23-promoter of GaGL2 complex, corresponding to sharply reduced transcription of GaGL2. Our results support that cotton homologs to the genetic molecules regulating Arabidopsis trichome differentiation interacted in the epidermis of ovules and the redundant GaMYB23 serves as a negative regulator in fuzz-fiber patterning. Abstract: In this study, a comparative proteomic analysis was employed to identify fuzz fiber initiation-related proteins in wild-type diploid cotton (Gossypium arboreum L.) and its fuzzless mutant. Temporal changes in global proteomes were examined using 2-DE at five developmental time points for fuzz fiber initiation, and 71 differentially expressed protein species were identified by MS, 45 of which were preferentially accumulated in the wild-type. These proteins were assigned to several functional categories, mainly in cell response/signal transduction, redox homeostasis, protein metabolism and energy/carbohydrate metabolism. It was remarkable that more than ten key proteins with high-abundance were involved in gibberellic acid (GA) signaling and ROS scavenging, and increasing concentrations of active GAs and H2O2 were also detected approximately 5dpa in wild type ovules. Furthermore, in vivo GA and H2O2 treatments of ovules inside young bolls showed that these compounds can synergistically promote fuzz fiber initiation. Our findings not only described a dynamic protein network supporting fuzz initiation in diploid cotton fiber ovules, but also deepened our understanding of the molecular basis of cotton fiber initiation. Biological significance: Our study reported the identification of differentially expressed proteins in wild-type diploid cotton (G. arboreum L.) and its fuzzless mutant by comparative proteomic approach. In total, 71 protein species related to fuzz initiation were identified by MS. These proteins were assigned to several functional categories, mainly in energy/carbohydrate metabolism, protein metabolism, signal transduction, redox homeostasis etc. Importantly, a number of key proteins were found to be associated with GA signaling and ROS scavenging. In consistence with these findings, we detected the increase of GAs and H2O2 concentrations during fiber initiation, and our in vivo ovule experiments with GA and H2O2 injection and following microscopy observation of fuzz fiber initiation supported promoting effects of GA and H2O2 on cotton fiber initiation. These findings depicted a dynamic protein network supporting cotton fiber initiation in diploid cotton ovules. Our study is of major significance for understanding the molecular mechanisms controlling fuzz initiation and also provides a solid basis for further functional research of single nodes of this network in relation to cotton fiber initiation. With 1 figure and 8 tables Abstract The genetic effects and heterosis of the colour and quality of brown fibres were analysed in this paper through the complete 5 × 5 diallel crossing among two brown cotton cultivars and three white cotton cultivars in upland cotton ( Gossypium hirsutum). Parents and F1 were arranged in a randomized block design in three locations. The results showed that the inheritability for all the traits has exceeded 50%, with significant dominance effect at the 0.01 level. The additive effect of fibre colour, lint percentage, elongation and strength was also significant at the 0.01 level, reaching 85.6%, 29.7%, 16.1% and 19.1%, respectively. The ratio of residual variance of lint percentage and fibre qualities was 29.5 - 45.9%, that of colour was only 1.1%. Fibre colour had significant negative correlation with lint percentage, fibre length, uniformity, elongation and strength. The mid-parent heterosis of fibre colour was negative, which was −0.7%; those of lint percentage, fibre length, uniformity and strength were 3.5%, 4.2%, 1.7% and 2.6%, respectively, reaching the significant level. The simple correlation coefficient between heterosis of fibre length and strength and SSR genetic distance was 0.718 and 0.724, respectively, with a significant level. For the heterosis utilizing, the fibre quality of F1 could be predicted via the mean value of the fibre qualities of parents or the SSR genetic difference among varieties (lines). Selection among the early hybrid generations was suggested. Regional planning could be applied to improve lint percentage and fibre qualities by taking advantage of environmental variation. The impact of alien DNA fragments on plant genome has been studied in many species. However, little is known about the introgression lines of Gossypium. To study the consequences of introgression in Gossypium, we investigated ∼2000 genomic and ∼800 epigenetic sites in three typical cotton introgression lines, as well as their cultivar ( Gossypium hirsutum) and wild parents ( Gossypium bickii), by amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP) and methylation-sensitive amplified polymorphism (MSAP). The results demonstrate that an average of 0.5% of exotic DNA segments from wild cotton is transmitted into the genome of each introgression line, with the addition of other forms of genetic variation. In total, an average of 0.7% of genetic variation sites is identified in introgression lines. Simultaneously, the overall cytosine methylation level in each introgression line is very close to that of the upland cotton parent (an average of 22.6%). Further dividing patterns reveal that both hypomethylation and hypermethylation occurred in introgression lines in comparison with the upland cotton parent. Sequencing of nine methylation polymorphism fragments showed that most (7 of 9) of the methylation alternations occurred in the noncoding sequences. The molecular evidence of introgression from wild cotton into introgression lines in our study is identified by AFLP. Moreover, the causes of petal variation in introgression lines are discussed. Abstract: The CBL/CIPK signaling system mediates a variety of responses to environmental stimuli in plants. In this work, we identified four CBL genes from Gossypium hirsutum, two of which (designated GhCBL2 and GhCBL3) showed preferential expression in the elongating fiber cells. Moreover, the expression patterns of these two CBL genes coincided with that of a putative CBL-interacting protein kinase gene (GhCIPK1) that we isolated in a previous study. Yeast two-hybrid assay indicated that among the four CBLs, GhCIPK1 interacted selectively with GhCBL2 and GhCBL3. The co-expression and interactions of these proteins suggest that they are components of the same signaling pathway. These findings strengthen our previous prediction that CBL/CIPK signaling plays a critical role in the regulation of cotton fiber elongation. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

• Early sowing of spring maize increased grain yield in NCP. • Adjusting sowing date of spring maize did not mitigate against the heat stress. • Heat stress did not lower kernel number or yield without drought. Heat stress due to increases in temperature reduces grain number and yield of spring maize in the North China Plain (NCP). To mitigate heat stress, previous research recommended that postponing the sowing date of spring maize to late May in the NCP. However, other field experiment indicated that early sowing could achieve high grain yield. To resolve the discrepancy in previous studies, a two-year sowing date experiment was conducted from 4 April to 13 June with 14-day interval without drought stress. It was found that high grain yields were obtained in early sowing dates (early and mid- April) in both years. The grain yield and kernel number had no significant relationships with the heat stress in the crucial period bracketing silking, when kernel number is determined (15 days pre- and post- silking). Moreover, the historical meteorological data elucidated that high temperature continued from mid-June to early-August, which contained the silking window of different sowing dates. Additionally, the heat stress risk around silking (>33°C) for different sowing dates was high throughout the past 30 years (>23%), except for 13 June (7%). Moreover, the simulated yields under full irrigation also indicated that adjusting the sowing date to late May did not increase grain yield. We concluded that adjusting sowing date did not mitigate the heat stress around silking, and other factors, such as drought, overcast and rainy stress, influenced the grain number and yield of spring maize in the NCP.
