Abstract Production of peste des petits ruminants (PPR) vaccines in Russia is based on two attenuated virus strains (“45G37/35-k” and “ARRIAH”) of common origin. Here, the identity of the strain PPRV/45G37/35-k was investigated using a full genome, Illumina deep sequencing approach. Phylogenomic analysis showed that PPRV/45G37/35-k belongs to the same lineage as the widely used PPRV vaccine strain Nigeria/75/1 (lineage II). However, 248 nucleotide differences separate the genomes of these vaccine strains, indicating that the PPRV vaccine strains produced in Russia are new strains not yet recognised by the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH). Detailed information on the safety and efficacy of these vaccines should be provided to the WOAH before further national and international distribution.

Abstract. The aim of this study was to test the adaptability of seven (Triticum durum Desf.) genotypes grown under semi-arid conditions. The experiment was carried out at the Agricultural Experimental Station of Setif (Algeria), in a design of random blocks with three replications; the plant material used in this study consisted of seven genotypes (Triticum durum Desf.). At maturity, the following parameters were measured: grain yield; economic yield; above ground biomass; number of spikes per meter square; number of grain per spike; harvest index; thousand kernel weight and plant height. Number of days to heading was accounted from sown date. ANOVA showed that genotype and crop season effect were highly significant with all traits studied. MBB and Boussellem genotypes were the most suitable genotypes; they had good ranking under both crop seasons according to their results for all traits studied. 2016/2017 was the best crop season; it recorded the best values of grain yield and the majority of the traits studied. The interaction genotype X crop season was highly significant for all traits studied.The correlations among traits under both crop season showed that grain yield was significantly correlated with economic yield and number of grains per spike. A high significant correlation was observed between economic yield and above ground biomass under both crop seasons. Number of days to heading was significantly correlated with plant height under both crop seasons.

Durum wheat (Triticum durum Desf.), a crucial crop in the Mediterranean basin, faces challenges due to drought, resulting in substantial yield losses. This study was carried out during the winter (rabi) season of 2020–2021 to determine the influence of grain filling parameters on individual grain weight variation and their relationship to yield components in 3 durum wheat genotypes (Boussellam, Oued El-Bared and GTA-dur) grown at 3 different locations with varying rainfall patterns under a semi-arid condition of Algeria. Samples were collected from each genotype on 9 different dates to assess grain number, dry weight and grain filling parameters. The experimental results revealed significant genotype effects on grain yield, 1000-kernel weight and most grain filling parameters across all 3 locations, except for the parameter SFR (supreme fill rate). Boussellam recorded higher grain yield, kernel weight and maximum final weight parameter (MFW) due to its longer grain filling duration and higher rate of grain filling. Linear regression analysis indicated decrease of 0.001 mg/day in the rate of grain filling led to a loss of 0.9527 mg in the maximum final weight. Correlation analysis highlighted the interdependence between the rate and grain filling duration, which varied across different environments and influenced dry-matter accumulation, ultimately led to higher grain yield.

Although the plants of the genus Euphorbia are largely exploited by therapists in Morocco, the composition and antibacterial activities of propolis from these plants are still unknown. To address this gap, this study aimed to characterize the pollen type, the volatile compounds, and the phenolic and mineral profiles of three Euphorbia propolis samples collected in Morocco and evaluate their antimicrobial activities. The minimum inhibitory concentration of the propolis samples was determined by the microdilution method, and the anti-adherence activity was evaluated by the crystal violet assay. The examination of anti-quorum-sensing proprieties was performed using the biosensor Chromobacterium violaceum CV026. Pollen analysis revealed that Euphorbia resinifera pollen dominated in the P1 sample (58%), while E. officinarum pollen dominated in the P2 and P3 samples (44%). The volatile compounds were primarily composed of monoterpene hydrocarbons, constituting 35% in P1 and 31% in P2, with α-pinene being the major component in both cases, at 16% in P1 and 15% in P2. Calcium (Ca) was the predominant mineral element in both E. resinifera (P1) and E. officinarum (P2 and P3) propolis samples. Higher levels of phenols, flavonoids and dihydroflavonoids were detected in the E. officinarum P2 sample. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) value ranged from 50 to 450 µL/mL against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Euphorbia propolis displayed the ability to inhibit quorum sensing in the biosensor C. violaceum CV026 and disrupted bacterial biofilm formation, including that of resistant bacterial pathogens. In summary, the current study evidences the potential use of E. officinarum propolis (P2 and P3) to combat important features of resistant pathogenic bacteria, such as quorum sensing and biofilm formation.

Natural bio-based insulation materials have been the most interesting products for good performance and low carbon emissions, becoming widely recognized for their sustainability in the context of climate change and the environmental impact of the building industry. The main objective of this study is to characterize a new bio-sourced insulation material composed of fibers and an adhesive based on cornstarch. This innovative material is developed from waste of the marine plant called Posidonia oceanica (PO), abundantly found along the Algerian coastline. The research aims to valorize this PO waste by using it as raw material to create this novel material. Four samples with different volumetric adhesive fractions (15%, 20%, 25%, and 30%) were prepared and tested. The collected fractions underwent a series of characterizations to evaluate their properties. The key characteristics studied include density, thermal conductivity, and specific heat. The results obtained for the thermal conductivity of the different composites range between 0.052 and 0.067 W.m−1.K−1. In addition, the findings for thermal diffusivity and specific heat are similar to those reported in the scientific literature. However, the capillary absorption of the material is slightly lower, which indicates that the developed bio-sourced material exhibits interesting thermal performance, justifying its suitability for use in building insulation in Algeria.

As programs to support efficient and sustainable energy sources are expanding, research into the potential applications of the hydrogen vector is accelerating. Proton exchange membrane fuel cells are electrochemical converters that transform the chemical energy of hydrogen into electrical energy. These devices are used today for low- and medium-power stationary applications and for mobility, in trains, cars, bicycles, etc. Proton exchange membrane fuel cells use a polymer membrane as the electrolyte. The role of the membrane is multiple: it must separate gases, be an electronic insulator and a very good ionic conductor. In addition, it must resist free-radical chemical attack and have good mechanical strength. Nafion-type perfluorinated membranes have all these properties: the fluorinated backbone is naturally hydrophobic, but the hydrophilic ionic groups give the material excellent water sorption properties. The water adsorbed in the structure is extremely mobile, acting as a transport medium for the protons generated at the anode. Although it has been studied for a long time and has been the subject of a large number of papers perfluorinated membranes are still the reference membranes today. This article reviews some contributions of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance methods in liquid state to the study of water properties in the structure of Nafion-type perfluorinated membranes.

Abstract. The present study was carried out to select adapted and stable durum wheat (Triticum durum Desf.) genotypes for grain yield and thousand kernel weight using various stability parameters. Based on the graphical distributions between the parametric indices (Wricke’s ecovalence stability index (Wi²), environmental coefficient of variance (CVi), mean variance component (θi )) and the mean grain yield of tested genotypes, the suitable genotype for the tested conditions was Mexicali 75. Further, the cultivars Oued Zenati and Bousselem were the most adapted with the highest TKW. With non-parametric index was classified genotype Mexicali 75 as the most stable with high grain yield. According to PCA analysis the genotype Altar 84 was classified in dynamic stability group with the highest grain yield in addition, cultivars Bousselem and Oued Zenati were classified in dynamic concept with the highest thousand kernel weight. The results of this study confirmed that the parametric and non-parametric methods are the suitable tools to identify the most stable durum wheat (Triticum durum Desf.) under semi-arid conditions.

This paper aims to assess the current and prospective applications of the university and private sector partnerships in higher education in Saudi Arabia. This paper highlights the difficulties and challenges facing Saudi universities to establish sustainable partnerships with the private sector as well as the public sector. It also explores many aspects of the partnerships in an approach to boost and enhance the role of universities within the community, with a special reference to a well-known Saudi university; i.e., King Faisal University. The study highlights how the implementation of community partnerships is affected by historical, cultural, and social obstacles and a misunderstanding of the importance of one party to the other. Data was collected through an online structured questionnaire. 100 academic leaders at King Faisal University participated in this survey. We use Structural Equation Modelling Approach to analyse the data. The results of this study found a statistically significant relationship between the current practices of community partnership and the challenges facing these practices. In addition, the study finds a statistically significant relationship between the mechanisms for developing community partnerships and the current practices of the partnership.

Background and aimsSelf-reported questionnaires are useful for estimating the health-related quality of life (HR-QoL), impact of interventions, and prognosis. To our knowledge, no HR-QoL questionnaire has been developed for cardiac amyloidosis (CA). This study aimed to validate Amylo-AFFECT-QOL questionnaire to assess HR-QoL and its prognostic value in CA.MethodsA self-reported questionnaire, “Amylo-AFFECT” had been designed and validated for CA symptoms evaluation and screening by physicians. It was adapted here to assess HR-QoL (Amylo-AFFECT-QOL) and its prognostic value in CA. To validate the theoretical model, internal consistency and convergent validity were assessed, particularly correlations between Amylo-AFFECT-QOL and the HR-QoL Minnesota Living Heart Failure (MLHF) questionnaire.ResultsAmylo-AFFECT-QOL was completed by 515 patients, 425 of whom (82.5%) had CA. Wild-type and hereditary transthyretin amyloidosis (ATTRwt and ATTRv) and immunoglobulin light-chain amyloidosis (AL) were diagnosed in 47.8, 14.7, and 18.8% of cases, respectively. The best HR-QoL evaluation was obtained with five dimensions: “Heart failure,” “Vascular dysautonomia,” “Neuropathy,” “Ear, gastrointestinal, and urinary dysautonomia,” and “Skin or mucosal involvement.” The global Amylo-AFFECT-QOL and MLHF scores showed significant positive correlations (rs = 0.72, p < 0.05). Patients with a final diagnosis of CA had a global Amylo-AFFECT-QOL score significantly higher than the control group composed by patients with other diagnoses (22.2 ± 13.6 vs. 16.2 ± 13.8, respectively, p-value < 0.01). According to the Amylo-AFFECT-QOL global results, ATTRv patients’ QoL was more affected than AL patients’ QoL or ATTRwt patients’ QoL. Patients with a higher HR-QoL score had a greater risk of death or heart transplant after 1 year of follow-up (log-rank < 0.01).ConclusionAmylo-AFFECT-QOL demonstrates good psychometric properties and is useful for quantifying HR-QoL and estimating CA prognosis. Its use may help to improve overall management of patients with CA.

This study revisits the taxonomic classification of the genus Nocardiopsis through the application of advanced genome-based methodologies, representing a notable advancement beyond traditional approaches that primarily rely on 16S rRNA gene sequences and phenotypic traits. The advent of Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) and sophisticated bioinformatic tools has enabled a more precise framework for prokaryotic classification. However, many recognized species still lack complete genome sequences. In this study, we employed overall genome-related indices (OGRI), particularly Average Nucleotide Identity (ANI) and digital DNA-DNA hybridization (dDDH), to reassess the phylogenetic relationships within the genus. Comparative analyses of complete 16S rRNA sequences demonstrated high genetic similarity between N. umidischolae 66/93 T and N. tropica VKMAc-1457 T (99.61% similarity), as well as between N. rhodophaea JCM15313T and N. rosea JCM15314T (100% identity). The dDDH, ANI%, FastANI%, ANIm, and ANIb values further supported these results, with 73.2%, 96.94%, 96.15%, 97.19%, and 96.74% for the former pair, and 93.6%, 99.13%, 99.97%, 99.98%, and 99.27% for the latter pair, respectively. All values surpassed the species delineation thresholds of 70% for dDDH and 95–96% for ANI. Consequently, we propose reclassifying N. umidischolae as a heterotypic synonym of N. tropica, and N. rosea as a heterotypic synonym of N. rhodophaea, in accordance with the International Code of Nomenclature of Prokaryotes (ICNP). This study aims to evaluate the in silico genomic characteristics of five species of the genus Planotetraspora: P. kaengkrachanensis, P. mira, P. phitsanulokensis, P. silvatica, and P. thailandica, with a view to their application in therapeutic research. The 16S rRNA comparison indicated that these species were phylogenetically distinct. Pairwise comparisons of digital DNA-DNA hybridization (dDDH) and OrthoANI values between these studied type strains indicated that dDDH values were below 62.5%, while OrthoANI values were lower than 95.3%, suggesting that the five species represent distinct genomospecies. These results were consistent with the phylogenomic study based on core genes and the pangenome analysis of these five species within the genus Planotetraspora. However, the genome annotation showed some differences between these species, such as variations in the number of subsystem category distributions across whole genomes (ranging between 1979 and 2024). Additionally, the number of CAZYme (Carbohydrate-Active enZYme) genes ranged between 298 and 325, highlighting the potential of these bacteria for therapeutic research applications. The in silico physico-chemical characteristics of cellulases from Planotetraspora species were analyzed. Their 3D structure was modeled, refined, and validated. A molecular docking analysis of this cellulase protein structural model was conducted with cellobiose, cellotetraose, laminaribiose, carboxymethyl cellulose, glucose, and xylose ligand. Our study revealed significant interaction between the Planotetraspora cellulase and cellotetraose substrate, evidenced by stable binding energies. This suggests that this bacterial enzyme holds great potential for utilizing cellotetraose as a substrate in various applications. In arid and semi-arid areas, drought is an important abiotic factor that limits Durum wheat production. Identifying genotypes tolerant to drought is a challenge for plant breeders. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of direct and indirect selection on Durum wheat under rain-fed conditions in the high plains of Sétif, Algeria. Four parental varieties (Ofanto, MBB, Mrb5, Waha), three crosses (Ofanto/MBB, Ofanto/Mrb5, Ofanto/Waha) representing the F5, F6, and F7 populations, and one cultivar (Bousselm, control) were cultivated. Pheno-morpho-physiological traits were measured at the heading stage and yield and its components at grain maturity. Our results showed that the response to direct selection was reflected in a significant increase in grain yield, economic yield, and number of spikes, suggesting that grain yield may be improved using one of these characteristics as the selection criterion. Selection by canopy temperature was affected by a significant decrease in the drought susceptibility index (-11.3 %), making it possible to obtain abiotic stress-resistant lines. The study of the relationships between F5, F6, and F7 populations has shown that grain yield, economic yield, and plant height correlate with each generation, indicating no effect of genotype-environment interaction, unlike others. Late selection revealed eight meaningful lines (L1, L8, L14, L28, L32, L35, L36, and L40) in the selection process, maintaining high production throughout different cropping seasons. These successful lines were selected based on traits related to productivity: Gr.YLD, Ec.YLD, NS. These characters provide the same information as breeding programs, according to our results.

Abstract Aims Cardiac amyloidosis (CA) has a poor prognosis which is aggravated by diagnostic delay. Amyloidosis extracardiac and cardiac events (AECE and ACE) may help improve CA diagnosis and typing. The aim of this study was to compare AECE and ACE between different CA types and assess their relationship with survival. Methods and results This retrospective cohort study conducted in France from June 2008 to May 2019, at the Henry Mondor Hospital. This cohort included 983 patients with CA. Mean age at inclusion was 73.1 ± 11.4 years, 726 (75.1%) were male and the mean body mass index was 24.5 ± 4.1 kg/m2. Among them, 321 had immunoglobulin light chain (AL) amyloidosis, 434 had wild‐type transthyretin (ATTRwt), and 212 had hereditary transthyretin (ATTRv). Abstract Aim Due to improved therapy in childhood, many patients with congenital heart disease reach adulthood and are termed adults with congenital heart disease (ACHD). ACHD often develop heart failure (HF) as a consequence of initial palliative surgery or complex anatomy and subsequently require advanced HF therapy. ACHD are usually excluded from trials evaluating heart failure therapies, and in this context, more data about heart failure trajectories in ACHD are needed to guide the management of ACHD suffering from HF. Methods and results The pAtients pResenTing with cOngenital heaRt dIseAse Register (ARTORIA‐R) will collect data from ACHD evaluated or listed for heart or heart‐combined organ transplantation from 16 countries in Europe and the Asia/Pacific region. We plan retrospective collection of data from 1989–2020 and will include patients prospectively. Additional organizations and hospitals in charge of transplantation of ACHD will be asked in the future to contribute data to the register. The primary outcome is the combined endpoint of delisting due to clinical worsening or death on the waiting list. The secondary outcome is delisting due to clinical improvement while on the waiting list. All‐cause mortality following transplantation will also be assessed. The data will be entered into an electronic database with access to the investigators participating in the register. All variables of the register reflect key components important for listing of the patients or assessing current HF treatment. Conclusion The ARTORIA‐R will provide robust information on current management and outcomes of adults with congenital heart disease suffering from advanced heart failure.

Porous silicon is a material used in integrated optics with few studies on its structuration impact on the polarization in the near infra-red spectral range. In this letter, we report experimental results from optical characterizations around the wavelength of 1550 nm and for different input polarization in porous silicon ridge waveguides. We highlight filtering of light polarization that attenuates transverse electric mode in passive porous silicon ridge waveguides.

Abstract Background Circulating miRNAs (c-miRNAs) are found in most, if not all, biological fluids and are becoming well-established non-invasive biomarkers of many human pathologies. However, their features in non-pathological contexts and whether their expression profiles reflect normal life history events have received little attention, especially in non-mammalian species. The aim of the present study was to investigate the potential of c-miRNAs to serve as biomarkers of reproductive and metabolic states in fish. Results The blood plasma was sampled throughout the reproductive cycle of female rainbow trout subjected to two different feeding regimes that triggered contrasting metabolic states. In addition, ovarian fluid was sampled at ovulation, and all samples were subjected to small RNA-seq analysis, leading to the establishment of a comprehensive miRNA repertoire (i.e., miRNAome) and enabling subsequent comparative analyses to a panel of RNA-seq libraries from a wide variety of tissues and organs. We showed that biological fluid miRNAomes are complex and encompass a high proportion of the overall rainbow trout miRNAome. While sharing a high proportion of common miRNAs, the blood plasma and ovarian fluid miRNAomes exhibited strong fluid-specific signatures. We further revealed that the blood plasma miRNAome significantly changed depending on metabolic and reproductive states. We subsequently identified three evolutionarily conserved muscle-specific miRNAs or myomiRs (miR-1-1/2-3p, miR-133a-1/2-3p, and miR-206-3p) that accumulated in the blood plasma in response to high feeding rates, making these myomiRs strong candidate biomarkers of active myogenesis. We also identified miR-202-5p as a candidate biomarker for reproductive success that could be used to predict ovulation and/or egg quality. Conclusions Together, these promising results reveal the high potential of c-miRNAs, including evolutionarily conserved myomiRs, as physiologically relevant biomarker candidates and pave the way for the use of c-miRNAs for non-invasive phenotyping in various fish species.

Anaerobic digestion (AD) or methanization is a biological process that allows the treatment of organic wastes and the production of renewable energy as biogas. This research describes assessment and optimization of dates pedicels rich in organic components under the conditions of mesophiles in co-digestion in association with the cattle manure and sludge of the wastewater treatment plant (WWTP). To realize this objectives, we investigated the impact of substrate load (date pedicel) on the co-digestion anaerobic of date pedicels and the sludge in wastewater treatment plants. The different parameters of the digester stability such as the pH, VFA, CAT, ammoniacal nitrogen, and the volume of biogas produced were followed. The results show that by increasing the mass of the pedicels and therefore the percentage of the substrate in the reactor, from 0.5 to 1% (W/V), the volume of produced biogas increases by five times. However, an increase in the percentage of the substrate introduced into the digester from 1 to 2% resulted in a slight decrease in the volume of biogas produced. The use of fresh cattle manure as inoculum shown a significant improvement (40%) in the production of biogas, which can be attributed to the nature of the inoculum. Indeed, cattle manure fresh is more adapted for the fermentation of lignocellulosic materials unlike sludge of wastewater treatment plants which may contain toxic substances that limit their use in AD. HIGHLIGHTS Pedicels of dates mixed with cattle manure and sludge from the waste water treatment plant (WWTP) were effective feedstocks for biogas production.; Production optima of biogas are 1395 mL for WWTP and 1953.4 mL for cattle manure.; Load maximum admissible in a digester depends on the nature of the substrate.; Use of fresh cattle manure as the inoculum is more adapted for the fermentation of lignocellulosic materials.;

Background. Heart transplantation in cardiac amyloidosis (CA) patients is possible and generally considered for transplantation if other organs are not affected. In this study, we aimed to describe and assess outcome in patients following heart transplantations at our CA referral center. Methods. We assessed all CA patients that had heart transplantations at our center between 2005 and 2018. Patients with New York Heart Association status 3 out of 4, with poor short-term prognosis due to heart failure, despite treatment, and without multiple myeloma, systemic disease, severe neuropathic/digestive comorbidities, cancer, or worsening infections were eligible for transplantation. Hearts were transplanted by bicaval technique. Standard induction and immunosuppressive therapies were used. Survival outcome of CA patients after transplantation was compared with recipients with nonamyloid pathologies in France. Results. Between 2005 and 2018, 23 CA patients had heart transplants: 17 (74%) had light chain (light chain amyloidosis [AL]) and 6 (26%) had hereditary transthyretin (hereditary transthyretin amyloidosis [ATTRv]) CA. Also, 13 (57%) were male, and the mean age at diagnosis was 56.5 y (range, 47.7–62.8). Among AL patients, 13 had heart-only and 5 had heart-kidney transplantations. Among ATTRv patients, 1 had heart-only and 5 had heart-liver transplantations. The 1-y survival rate after transplantation was 78%, 70% with AL, and 100% with ATTRv. At 2 y, 74% were alive: 65% with AL and 100% with ATTRv. Conclusion. After heart transplantation, French CA and nonamyloid patients have similar survival outcomes. Among CA patients, ATTRv patients have better prognosis than those with AL, possibly due to the combined heart-liver transplantation. Selected CA patients should be considered for heart transplantations.
