Antidepressant response in adults with major depressive disorder (MDD) is probably influenced by personality dimensions. However, personality dimensions in depression and their association with antidepressant treatment in adolescents are relatively unknown. We sought to investigate whether personality traits (PTs) can influence antidepressant treatment response in adolescents with depression. Eighty-two adolescents with MDD who had completed the 8 weeks of treatment with selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI) were enrolled. The Revised NEO Five-Factor Inventory (NEO-FFI-R) was used to measure their personality at baseline, and the 17-item Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAMD-17) and Children's Depression Rating Scale-Revised (CDRS-R) were used to evaluate depressive symptoms at baseline and 8 weeks. Moreover, logistic regression was performed to investigate the relationship between personality dimensions and antidepressant response. Receiver operating characteristic analyses were employed to determine the accuracy of a PT-based model in predicting the antidepressant response rate. Adolescents with MDD had significantly different PTs at baseline. Multivariable logistic regression analysis showed that extroversion scores were associated with response to antidepressant treatment, the lower the extroversion score, the better the response to antidepressant treatment, after correcting for variables with significant differences and trends or all potential confounding variables. It was also found that the combination of disease duration, extraversion-gregariousness, and agreeableness-trust effectively predicted antidepressant response in adolescents with MDD, with a sensitivity of 79.4 % and specificity of 68.7 %. Personality dysfunction in adolescents is associated with MDD. The volume change behaviour of an unsaturated compacted loess under thermo-hydro-mechanical loads is comprehensively investigated in this experimental research. A new temperature/suction-controlled triaxial apparatus with triple cells was developed. Temperature- and suction-controlled isotropic tests, heating–cooling tests with isotropic net stress and suction control and drying–wetting tests with isotropic net stress and temperature control were conducted on an unsaturated compacted loess from Shaanxi, China. Experimental results show that compressibility indices remain unchanged at various temperatures, but show different variation trends with changes in suction. Both suction hardening and thermal softening were observed. Irreversible volumetric contraction is induced in the compacted loess upon heating–cooling path and becomes more significant at higher isotropic net stresses and higher suctions. Lower over-consolidation ratio prior to heating results in greater irreversible contraction in loess samples. Water-holding capacity of loess samples decreases upon heating, but it is independent of the stress level. The hydraulic hysteresis of samples has no significant change with temperature changes. Slight shrinkage occurs during drying process in loess samples, and collapse can be observed in wetting process. This paper examines how latecomer firms manage to achieve industrial upgrading through strategic coupling with global lead firms in automotive production networks. Drawing upon the example of the Guangzhou Automotive Corporation in southern China, this paper theorizes 'cross‐scalar tension' as a key factor to explain why the four cases of strategic coupling between lead firms, the same domestic firm and state ended in different results, from decoupling to a sustainable coupling with local upgrading. This paper contributes to the pertinent literature by demonstrating that cross‐scalar tension is inherent to the nature of global production networks, and unreconciled tension concerning different corporate strategies on technological transfer, localization and product development could lead to decoupling. Importantly, good coordination and matching on corporate strategies between lead and domestic firms could relieve cross‐scalar tensions, thus fostering local industrial upgrading and sustainable strategic coupling. Mobile colistin resistance (MCR) is the primary mechanism for colistin resistance and has been disseminated worldwide; this has gained substantial attention and led to policy changes for the use of colistin in food animals in many countries. The global spread of mcr was attributed to the high selective pressure of colistin used in livestock, and the acquisition of mcr by low-copy-number and highly conjugative plasmids. The dramatic decrease of mcr after the colistin-banning policy could be associated with the fitness cost mediated by MCR. Besides mediating resistance to both polymyxins and antimicrobial peptides, MCR is thought to enhance the virulence of bacteria and affect the host immune response. To combat colistin-resistant bacteria, MCR inhibitors have been developed based on the structure of MCR, and other strategies targeting mcr -positive plasmids/strains have also been exploited. Colistin is regarded as a last-line drug against serious infections caused by multidrug-resistant Gram-negative bacterial pathogens. In this study, the ReaxFF reactive force field is applied to simulate the melting and annealing behaviors of aluminum (Al) nanoparticles (ANP) by molecular dynamics (MD) simulations. Potential energy, specific heat and FCC lattice number are used to study the thermal behavior of the entire phase transition process. First, the melting and solidification process of 3 nm cubic Al and Al2O3 models under constant-pressure/temperature ensemble (NPT) system was simulated without boundary, and the steady-state simulation was discussed at specific temperature points. The non-boundary simulation proved the effectiveness of the Reaxff reactive force field for ANP phase transition simulations. It is confirmed that the physical properties of Al and Al2O3 could be effectively reflected in the MD simulations. ANP with low oxidation degree cannot be completely ignored in engineering applications. The existence of oxide layer hinders the annealing behavior. Therefore, this study also carried out an additional simulation process of 6 nm ANP and its oxide particles in canonical ensemble (NVT). Those obtained results show that a small amount of oxide layer can greatly change the thermal properties of ANP. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) have been recognized as prevalent contributors to the development of inner retinal injuries including optic neuropathies such as glaucoma, non‐arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy, traumatic optic neuropathy, and Leber hereditary optic neuropathy, among others. This underscores the pivotal significance of oxidative stress in the damage inflicted upon retinal tissue. To combat ROS‐related challenges, this study focuses on creating an injectable and tissue‐adhesive hydrogel with tailored antioxidant properties for retinal applications. GelCA, a gelatin‐modified hydrogel with photo‐crosslinkable and injectable properties, is developed. To enhance its antioxidant capabilities, curcumin‐loaded polydopamine nanoparticles (Cur@PDA NPs) are incorporated into the GelCA matrix, resulting in a multifunctional nanocomposite hydrogel referred to as Cur@PDA@GelCA. This hydrogel exhibits excellent biocompatibility in both in vitro and in vivo assessments, along with enhanced tissue adhesion facilitated by NPs in an in vivo model. Importantly, Cur@PDA@GelCA demonstrates the potential to mitigate oxidative stress when administered via intravitreal injection in retinal injury models such as the optic nerve crush model. These findings underscore its promise in advancing retinal tissue engineering and providing an innovative strategy for acute neuroprotection in the context of inner retinal injuries. With increasing concerns about noise pollution, the pursuit of highly dependable piezoelectric acoustic sensors for real‐time noise monitoring has come to the forefront of scientific research. Lead‐based perovskite piezoelectric films, exemplified by lead zirconate titanate Pb(Zr,Ti)O3 (PZT), surpass traditional piezoelectric materials such as ZnO and AlN in their piezoelectric properties, promising substantial advancements in next‐generation acoustic sensor technologies. However, the toxic nature of lead in PZT materials poses formidable environmental and human health risks. In an unprecedented breakthrough, it presents the pioneering development of an environmentally benign lead‐free piezoelectric Micro‐Electro‐Mechanical System (MEMS) acoustic sensor based on potassium sodium niobate (K,Na)NbO3 (KNN) film. High‐quality <001> textured 3 µm‐thick KNN film is successfully integrated into commercially used Si substrate, rendering exceptional piezoelectricity (transverse piezoelectric coefficients e31* of ≈8.5 C m−2) with satisfactory thermal stability. The atomic‐scale Z‐contrast imaging and piezoresponse force microscopy characterizations reveal that the outstanding piezoresponse originates from the local coexistence of multiple phases and the enhancement of extrinsic piezoelectric contributions from in‐plane polarization anisotropy. Finite element simulation is employed to design the triangular cantilever structure and annular diaphragm structure, each corresponding to different operating bandwidths. The resultant MEMS acoustic sensors stand out with outstanding acoustic performance (the high sensitivity and expansive receiving field of view), which are attributed to the microstructural engineering at multi‐length scales for the excellent piezoelectric properties of KNN film. Genetically modified microorganisms (GMMs) possess significant potential for a wide range of applications; however, their execution in real‐world scenarios, particularly in environments characterized by scarce nutrients and unpredictable conditions, proves daunting. Drawing inspiration from the adaptability of natural seeds, living seed materials that combine a core–shell structure ZIF‐8 and genetically engineered spores are introduced. By genetically modifying the Bacillus subtilis strain to express distinct fluorescent proteins, the visualization of spores within the hollow sphere is facilitated, allowing for differentiation between spore and bacteria states. Importantly, the ZIF‐8 shell exhibits responsiveness to diverse nutrient levels, providing enhanced environmental resistance in comparison to bare spores upon exposure to hypochlorous acid, UV‐C radiation, and even vacuum conditions. Moreover, the potential of living seed materials for living sensors of small molecules is showcased by elucidating that spores can be resuscitated into functional bacteria after release from ZIF‐8 material. This research establishes a novel approach for the general fabrication of Metal‐Organic Frameworks (MOF)‐based living spore hybrid materials, offering environmentally controlled release of living materials across a multitude of applications. Members of Puccinia (Pucciniaceae, Pucciniales) are known as plant pathogens worldwide, which are characterized by their morphology, host association, and molecular data of various genes. In the present study, 10 specimens of Puccinia were collected from four herbaceous plants (Anaphalis hancockii, Anthriscus sylvestris, Halenia elliptica, and Pilea pumila) in China and identified based on morphology and phylogeny. As a result, 10 samples represent four undescribed species of Puccinia, viz., P. apdensia, P. decidua, P. dermatis, and P. lianchengensis, spp. nov. P. apdensia is characterized by its smooth teliospores with thickened apex. P. decidua represents the first Puccinia species inhabiting the host Anaphalis hancockii and is distinguished from the other Puccinia species by its telia and uredinia surrounded by the epidermis. P. dermatis from Halenia elliptica differs from the other Puccinia species on the host genus Halenia by the telia that have epidermis and teliospores with sparsely irregular granulated protrusions. P. lianchengensis is characterized by its teliospore surface with fishnet ornamentation and urediniospores without prominent caps. All of the new species are described and illustrated in this study. Purpose: It is well known that inhibition of Ca2+/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase II (CaMKII) provides cardiac protection in cases of myocardial ischemia–reperfusion injury. However, there are currently no cytoplasm-impermeable drugs that target CaMKII. The aim of this study was to develop curcumin albumin nanoparticles (HSA-CCM NPs) containing AC3-I and investigate their protective effects on hypoxia–reoxygenation (H/R)-induced injuries in adult rat cardiomyocytes and ischemia–reperfusion (I/R) injuries in isolated rat hearts. Methods: HSA-CCM NPs were synthesized using β-ME methods, while the membrane-impermeable peptide AC3-I was covalently linked via a disulfide bond to synthesize AC3-I@HSA-CCM NPs (AC3-I@NPs). Nanoparticle stability and drug release were characterized. To assess the cardiomyocyte uptake of AC3-I@NPs, AC3-I@NPs were incubated with cardiomyocytes under normoxia and hypoxia, respectively. The cardioprotective effect of AC3-I@NPs was determined by using a lactate dehydrogenase kit (LDH) and PI/Hoechst staining. The phosphorylation of phospholamban (p-PLB) was detected by Western blotting in hypoxia–reoxygenation and electric field stimulation models. To further investigate the protective role of AC3-I@NPs against myocardial ischemia–reperfusion injury, we collected coronary effluents and measured creatine kinase (CK) and LDH release in Langendorff rat hearts. Results:AC3-I@NPs were successfully prepared and characterized. Both HSA-CCM NPs and AC3-I@NPs were taken up by cardiomyocytes. AC3-I@NPs protected cardiomyocytes from injury caused by hypoxia–reoxygenation, as demonstrated by decreased cardiomyocyte death and LDH release. AC3-I@NPs reduced p-PLB levels evoked by hypoxia–reoxygenation and electrical field stimulation in adult rat cardiac myocytes. AC3-I@NPs decreased the release of LDH and CK from coronary effluents. Ti 2 AlC can be used as a microwave absorbent due to its good electrical conductivity. However, Ti 2 AlC powders synthesized using conventional solid phase reaction show low reflection loss (RL) and narrow effective absorption width (EAB), which greatly limits its application in the field of microwave absorption. Herein, porous lamellar Ti 2 AlC powders were firstly synthesized in NaCl/KCl molten salt using Ti powders, Al powders, and starch as reaction precursors, and then they were selectively etched with Lewis acid molten salt (CuCl 2) to prepare Ti 2 AlC/Cu/Ti 2 C hybrids. The results indicated that when the mass fraction of porous lamellar Ti 2 AlC powder in paraffin was 40 %, the maximum RL and EAB were −44.15 dB and 2.68 GHz, respectively. After Lewis acid molten salt etching, the RL and EAB of Ti 2 AlC/Cu/Ti 2 C hybrids increased to −54.88 dB and 4.48 GHz, respectively. The improvement of microwave absorption property could be attributed to the enhancement of polarization and conductivity losses caused by the formation of Ti 2 C MXene and copper nanoparticles. For any closed orientable 3‐manifold, there is a volume function defined on the space of all Seifert representations of the fundamental group. The maximum absolute value of this function agrees with the Seifert volume of the manifold due to Brooks and Goldman. For any Seifert representation of a graph manifold, the authors establish an effective formula for computing its volume, and obtain restrictions to the representation as analogous to the Milnor–Wood inequality (about transversely projective foliations on Seifert fiber spaces). It is shown that the Seifert volume of any graph manifold is a rational multiple of π2$\pi ^2$. Among all finite covers of a given nongeometric graph manifold, the supremum ratio of the Seifert volume over the covering degree can be a positive number, and can be infinite. The weather‐resistant steel S355J2W shows potential for use in the bogies of high‐speed trains operating in extremely cold regions. In this study, the mechanical properties and fracture behavior of S355J2W steel and its MAG welding joints were investigated using low‐temperature uniaxial tensile tests, Charpy impact tests, and three‐point bending tests (TPB), which play an important role in the safety and reliability of train operation. The ductility and toughness indices decreased as the temperature decreased from room temperature to −114°C, and the weld is more dangerous and prone to fracture than the base material area. The бs/бb values of WM and HAZ samples slightly increased by 3.7% and 3.8% from 20 to −114°C, respectively. And the ductile–brittle transition temperature (DBTT) of BM, WM, and HAZ were −75.6, −46.1, and −56.6°C, respectively. The fracture micro‐mechanisms were evaluated by analyzing the grain misorientation along the residual cracks using electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The high‐angle grain boundaries (GBs) in the base metal were observed to greatly contribute to stopping or deflecting the crack propagation, thereby improving the low‐temperature toughness. In contrast, the cracks easily penetrate the low‐angle GBs of the weld (which made up 38% of the grain boundaries of the welds), thereby decreasing the lower temperature fracture toughness of the weld. The dislocations of S355J2W steel and the weld metal were investigated by TEM analysis. Aiming at the actual industrial process background that different modes share the same system configurations and control structure, this article proposes a novel structured discriminant Gaussian graph learning for multimode process monitoring. The proposed method considers not only the sparsity of graph model but also the measurement of data variation based on a mismatched graph and the common node support between different graphical structures. The objective function involves two sets of regularization terms: the trace terms for mismatched measurements and the ℓ2,1‐norm imposed on the union of decomposed graph matrices. Due to the introduced mismatched trace terms, the cost of matching the data points and graph models that have inconsistent class labels can be expanded, which brings more discrimination for the graph‐based mode identification. While the common structure extracted by the ℓ2,1‐norm forces the estimated graph models to have structural similarities, thus alleviating the negative influence caused by graph discrimination. Once a relatively accurate and discriminative reference graph model is obtained, the downstream test graph learning and analysis can be conducted online by employing the moving window techniques. By comparing the matched and mismatched graph‐based measurements, the process mode can be identified correctly and stably. To grasp the abnormal process changes, the ℓ2,1‐norm for the row sparsity is again applied to the graph difference matrices, the sensitive monitoring statistics and the fault isolation results can be obtained effectively. All the optimization problems in this paper can be solved using the alternating direction multiplier (ADMM) algorithm. The effectiveness of our proposed approach is illustrated by the application to a real blast furnace iron‐making production process. This article proposes a process monitoring method based on a structured sparse Gaussian graphical model, which is more suitable for real‐world industrial processes with multiple modes. Ovarian cancer is a common, highly lethal tumor. Herein, we reported that S-phase kinase-associated protein 2 (Skp2) is essential for the growth and aerobic glycolysis of ovarian cancer cells. Skp2 was upregulated in ovarian cancer tissues and associated with poor clinical outcomes. Using a customized natural product library screening, we found that xanthohumol inhibited aerobic glycolysis and cell viability of ovarian cancer cells. Xanthohumol facilitated the interaction between E3 ligase Cdh1 and Skp2 and promoted the Ub-K48-linked polyubiquitination of Skp2 and degradation. Cdh1 depletion reversed xanthohumol-induced Skp2 downregulation, enhancing HK2 expression and glycolysis in ovarian cancer cells. Finally, a xenograft tumor model was employed to examine the antitumor efficacy of xanthohumol in vivo. Collectively, we discovered that xanthohumol promotes the binding between Skp2 and Cdh1 to suppress the Skp2/AKT/HK2 signal pathway and exhibits potential antitumor activity for ovarian cancer cells. Arsenic (As) fate in paddy fields has been one of the most significant current issues due to the strong As accumulation potential of rice plants under flooded conditions. However, no attempt was done to explore As methylation and volatilization under non-flooded conditions. Herein, we investigated the effects of water management on As methylation and volatilization in three arsenic-contaminated soils enhanced by biostimulation with straw-derived organic matter and bioaugmentation with genetic engineered Pseudomonas putida KT2440 (GE P. putida). Under flooded conditions, the application of biochar (BC), rice straw (RS) and their combination (BC+RS) increased total As in porewater. However, these effects were greatly attenuated under non-flooded conditions. Compared with RS amendment alone, the combination of GE P. putida and RS further promoted the As methylation and volatilization, and the promotion percentage under non-flooded conditions were significantly higher than that under flooded conditions. The combined GE P. putida and RS showed the highest efficiency in As methylation (88 µg/L) and volatilization (415.4 µg/(kg·year)) in the non-flooded soil with moderate As contamination. Finally, stepwise multiple linear regression analysis presented that methylated As, DOC and pH in porewater were the most important factors contributing to As volatilization. Overall, our findings suggest that combination of bioaugmentation with GE P. putida and biostimulation with RS/BC+RS is a potential strategy for bioremediation of arsenic-contaminated soils by enhancing As methylation and volatilization under non-flooded conditions. AbstractThis article presents a nonlocal higher-order beam theory to treat the transverse free vibration of functionally graded (FG) nanotubes with radial inhomogeneity considering cross-sectional warping. A novel exponential shape function is constructed to model the cross-sectional warping. The suggested beam model does not need the shear correction coefficient but is capable of handling both size-dependent behavior and fulfilling shear-stress-free conditions on the inner and outer surfaces. A governing equation is derived and the frequency equations of free vibration of FG nanotubes are obtained under typical boundary conditions. AbstractThere has been a recent surge in statistical methods for handling the lack of adequate positivity when using inverse probability weights (IPW). However, these nascent developments have raised a number of questions. Thus, we demonstrate the ability of equipoise estimators (overlap, matching, and entropy weights) to handle the lack of positivity. Compared to IPW, the equipoise estimators have been shown to be flexible and easy to interpret. However, promoting their wide use requires that researchers know clearly why, when to apply them and what to expect. In this paper, we provide the rationale to use these estimators to achieve robust results. We specifically look into the impact imbalances in treatment allocation can have on the positivity and, ultimately, on the estimates of the treatment effect. We zero into the typical pitfalls of the IPW estimator and its relationship with the estimators of the average treatment effect on the treated (ATT) and on the controls (ATC). Furthermore, we also compare IPW trimming to the equipoise estimators. We focus particularly on two key points: What fundamentally distinguishes their estimands? When should we expect similar results? Our findings are illustrated through Monte-Carlo simulation studies and a data example on healthcare expenditure. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Comprehensive Summary: Cell‐free expression systems have emerged as a versatile and powerful platform for metabolic engineering, biosynthesis and synthetic biology studies. Nevertheless, successful examples of the synthesis of complex natural products using this system are still limited. Bicyclomycin, a structurally unique and complex diketopiperazine alkaloid, is a clinically promising antibiotic that selectively inhibits the transcription termination factor Rho. Here, we established a modular cell‐free expression system with cascade catalysis for the biosynthesis of bicyclomycin from a chemically synthesized cyclodipeptide. The six cell‐free expressed biosynthetic enzymes, including five iron‐ and α‐ketoglutarate‐dependent dioxygenases and one cytochrome P450 monooxygenase, were active in converting their substrates to the corresponding products. The co‐expressed enzymes in the cell‐free module were able to complete the related partial pathway. In vitro biosynthesis of bicyclomycin was also achieved by reconstituting the entire biosynthetic pathways (i.e., six enzymes) using the modular cell‐free expression system. Objective. Large-scale studies on the characteristics and management of abdominal trauma in megacities in China are lacking. The aim of this study was to analyze and present the clinical patterns and treatment status of abdominal trauma in regional medical centers. Methods. Cases of abdominal trauma treated at seven medical centers in Beijing from 2010 to 2021 were collected. Clinical information about age, sex, injury cause, geographic distribution, abbreviated injury scale/injury severity score (AIS/ISS) value, injury-hospital time, preoperative time, surgically identified organ injuries, type of surgery, causes of reoperation and 90-day mortality was included in this study. Clinical characteristics, treatment methods, and short-term prognoses (90-days survival) were compared between blunt abdominal trauma (BAT) and penetrating abdominal trauma (PAT) cases. Non-normally distributed data are described as medians (IQR), and the Mann‒Whitney U test was performed; qualitative data were analyzed using the X 2 test. Univariate and multivariate survival analyses were performed by the Cox proportional hazards model. Results. A total of 553 patients (86.98% male) with a median age of 36.50 (27.00–48.00) years were included. The BAT group had a significantly higher proportion of serious injury (P = 0.001), lower initial hemoglobin level (P = 0.00 1), and a lower laparoscopy surgery rate (P = 0.044) compared to the PAT group. Additionally, more BAT cases were from the area around Beijing (P = 0.008) and a longer injury-regional hospital time (10.47 (5.18–22.51) hours vs. 7.00 (3.80–15.38) hours, P = 0.001). In the hollow viscus injury subgroup, the BAT group had a significantly longer injury-regional hospital time and preoperative time compared to the PAT group (injury-regional hospital time: 10.23 (6.00–21.59) hours vs. 7.07 (3.99–13.85) hours, P = 0.002 ; preoperative time: 3.02 (2.01–5.58) hours vs. 2.81 (1.85–3.63) hours, P = 0.047). The overall 90-day mortality was 11.9%, and longer injury-regional hospital time (HR: 1.01, 95% CI: 1.00–1.02, P = 0.008), receipt of ICU treatment (HR: 4.69, 95% CI: 2.54–8.65, P = 0.001), and severe ISSs (ISS > 25 vs. ISS < 16, HR: 2.78, 95% CI: 1.38–5.601, P = 0.004) had a worse impact on survival. Conclusion. More patients with BAT were transferred to higher-level hospital, leading to significantly longer prehospital and preoperation time. In the subgroup of hemodynamically stable individuals, more patients with BAT experienced hollow viscus injuries. For those patients, aggressive diagnostic laparoscopic exploration may be beneficial. AbstractArtificial intelligence (AI)-based text-to-image technologies have recently gained considerable attention, but their specific applications for educational purposes remain relatively unexplored. This research aims to bridge this gap by developing a theoretical model that combines constructs from the Expectation Confirmation Model (ECM) with the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) to understand the sustainable use of AI-driven visual synthesis in design ideation. Data was collected via a survey involving 106 vocational university students who were enrolled in a user interface (UI) design course to test the proposed model. The hypotheses analysis demonstrated that confirmation positively influenced perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, and satisfaction. Furthermore, perceived usefulness had a positive impact on satisfaction. Students’ perceptions of the utility, usability, and satisfaction of AI-driven visual synthesis also positively affected their intention to continue using the technology. However, the hypothesis proposing a positive relationship between perceived ease of use and user satisfaction did not find support. A moderation analysis revealed that novice design students were susceptible to effort expectancy, negatively affecting their satisfaction with the technology. These findings offer valuable practical implications for developers, designers, and instructors interested in utilizing AI-driven visual synthesis for educational purposes in UI design. Background: Circulating cell-free DNA (cfDNA) has been widely used as a new liquid-biopsy marker. Dysregulation of cfDNA has been found in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). However, the detailed association between cfDNA and SLE has not been thoroughly studied. Methods: Plasma samples were collected from 88 patients with active SLE and 39 patients with inactive SLE. The cfDNA concentration was determined, and the length and distribution of cfDNA fragments were verified. Results: cfDNA concentrations were significantly higher in patients with active SLE than in patients with inactive SLE (0.4 [0.18–0.897] ng/µL vs 0.249 [0.144–0.431] ng/µL; p =.043). cfDNA fragments were enriched in the ranges of 153–198 bp and 300–599 bp. cfDNA concentrations were associated with the reduction of the anti-double-stranded DNA (dsDNA) antibodies titer (r = −0.301, p =.034). The presence of anti-U1 ribonucleoprotein (p =.012), anti-Sjogren syndrome A (p =.024), anti-dsDNA (p =.0208), and anti-nucleosome antibodies (p =.0382) might associate to the variation of cfDNA concentration. Reduced cfDNA concentration was associated with renal damage in active SLE patients (0.31 [0.11–0.73] ng/µL vs 0.65 [0.27–1.53] ng/µL; p =.009). The Active index, a combination model including cfDNA concentration and other clinical indices, had an area of 0.886 under the receiver operating characteristics curve for distinguishing active SLE. The Active index was positively correlated with the SLE disease activity index score (r = 0.6724, p <.0001). Conclusions: Through systematic stratified analysis and clinical algorithm model, this study found that plasma cfDNA concentration is closely related to SLE disease severity, which has guiding significance for the future clinical application of cfDNA in SLE. Background: Ferroptosis, a newly form of regulated cell death (RCD), is characterized by iron dyshomeostasis and unrestricted lipid peroxidation. Emerging evidence depicts a pivotal role for ferroptosis in driving some pathological processes, especially in cancer. Triggering ferroptosis can suppress tumor growth and induce an anti-tumor immune response, denoting the therapeutic promises for targeting ferroptosis in the management of cancer. As an autophagic phenomenon, ferritinophagy is critical to induce ferroptosis by degradation of ferritin to release intracellular free iron. Recently, a great deal of effort has gone into designing and developing anti-cancer strategies based on targeting ferritinophagy to induce ferroptosis. Conclusion: This review delineates the regulatory mechanism of ferritinophagy firstly and summarizes the role of ferritinophagy-induced ferroptosis in cancer. Moreover, the strategies targeting ferritinophagy to induce ferroptosis are highlighted to unveil the therapeutic value of ferritinophagy as a target to manage cancer. In situ surface wind observation is a critical meteorological data source for various research fields. However, data quality is affected by factors such as surface friction changes, station relocations and anemometer updates. Previous methods to address discontinuities have been insufficient, and processing methods have not always adhered to World Meteorological Organization (WMO) World Climate Programme guidelines. We analyzed data discontinuity caused by anemometer changes and station relocations in China's daily in situ near-surface (∼ 10 m) wind speed observations and the impact of the processing methods on wind speed trends. By comparing the wind speed discontinuities with the recorded location changes, we identified 90 stations that showed abnormally increasing wind speeds due to relocation. After removing those stations, we followed a standard quality control method recommended by the World Meteorological Organization to improve the data reliability and applied Thiessen polygons to calculate the area-weighted average wind speed. The result shows that China's recent reversal of wind speed was reduced by 41 % after removing the problematic stations, with an increasing trend of 0.017 m s -1 yr -1 (R2 = 0.64, P < 0.05), emphasizing the importance of robust quality control and homogenization protocols in wind trend assessments. In Europe, building transnational networks has become a crucial means for realizing bottom-up Europeanization and implementing the European Union (EU) policy at the grassroots. The value of transnational networks lies in clarifying political exchanges, decision making and policy transfer below the EU level. As a core element of the EU's cultural action, the European Capital of Culture (ECOC) is an important vehicle to promote transnational cooperation. However, whether in theory or practice, transnational networks among ECOC host cities have not received much attention from academia. Based on a qualitative meta-analysis, this study offers a holistic overview of the experiences of the ECOC programme over 40 years. It aims to answer two sets of research questions: (1) What types of transnational networks have been established among ECOCs? How do they operate? What functions do they have, and what are their impacts and limitations? (2) How do these transnational networks reflect the multilayered nature of European governance and the dynamics of Europeanization? Low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) imaging can significantly reduce the radiation dose to a patient. However, a low radiation dose will cause considerable noise and artifacts in the image, seriously impacting the clinical diagnosis. To better solve the problems, we propose an edge protection and global attention mechanism densely connected convolutional network (EP–GAMNet) for LDCT denoising. First, edge information was extracted using the improved eight-directional Prewitt operator and then, passed to each convolutional block through skip connections. Subsequently, a multiscale feature extractor and global attention mechanism were used for feature extraction. The final predicted images were then obtained by the noise reduction module. Further, a compound loss function based on mean squared error and perceptual loss was used to enhance the texture detail and improve the visual quality of the image. Extensive experiments on Mayo and piglet datasets showed the effectiveness of the proposed method in reducing noise/artifacts while preserving edges. The peak-signal-to-noise ratio value of CT images of the AAPM dataset processed by the new model is 33.5712, and the structural similarity (SSIM) value is 0.9244. Moreover, it performed better than some classical methods in terms of objective indicators and subjective effects. The proposed model is robust and can effectively retain edge information and extract effective features from LDCT images. Moreover, it is effective in improving LDCT image quality. This paper presents a new method for the feature screening of ultra-high dimensional data with response missing at random. The distribution function of the missing response is completed by imputation technology, and then the distance correlation between the imputed distribution function of response and the distribution function of covariate is used as an index for feature screening. The proposed method has the following advantages. First, it is a nonparametric model-free method, and can detect the nonlinear relationship between variables. Second, it is robust to covariates with outliers and heavy-tailed distributions. Third, it can deal with multi-dimensional response variables directly. Background: Genetic disorders ascribe to half of cases of congenital hearing loss. Hearing screening is significant in detecting hearing loss (HL) but weak at diagnosis, which can be complemented by genetic screening. Methods: To find a feasible method to accomplish genetic screening and evaluate its advantage when combined with hearing screening, between 1 January 2022, and 10 December 2023, we performed an observational cohort study based on 2488 neonates from the Han population at three hospitals in Jiangsu province. Genetic screening for 20 variants in four common HL‐associated genes by multicolor melting curve analysis (MMCA) and hearing screening were offered concurrently to all participants. Results: In total, 170 (6.8%) of 2488 eligible neonates were detected at least one variant and among them, the proportion of referral was higher (p < 0.05). Genetic screening combined with hearing screening was associated with a 25.0% increase (2 of 8) in discovering cases of diagnosed hearing loss that were missed by hearing screening. Conclusion: This study suggests that genetic screening combined with hearing screening by MMCA is effective at finding potential HL cases and practical to be validated in other places. The homeostasis of the microbiota is essential for human health. In particular, the gut microbiota plays a critical role in the regulation of the immune system. Thus, faecal microbiota transplantation (FMT), a technology that has rapidly developed in the last decade, has specifically been utilised for the treatment of intestinal inflammation and has recently been found to be able to treat tumours in combination with immunotherapy. FMT has become a breakthrough in enhancing the response rate to immunotherapy in cancer patients by altering the composition of the patient's gut microbiota. This review discusses the mechanisms of faecal microorganism effects on tumour development, drug treatment efficacy, and adverse effects and describes the recent clinical research trials on FMT. Moreover, the factors influencing the efficacy and safety of FMT are described. Background: Despite numerous observational studies, the causal relationship between obesity—measured by body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference (WC)—as well as type 2 diabetes (T2D), lifestyle habits, and susceptibility to low back pain (LBP) remains obscure. Methods: This investigation employed two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis to explore causality, using genetic variants linked to relevant factors from genome-wide association studies (GWASs). Specifically, we selected independent genetic variants related to BMI, WC, T2D, smoking, alcohol consumption, and coffee intake from established GWASs, all of which demonstrated genome-wide significance. The comparative data for LBP were derived from a GWAS involving European subjects, under the auspices of the renowned MRC-IEU (Medical Research Council Integrative Epidemiology Unit) consortium. Results: Elevated BMI and WC were associated with odds ratios of 1.002 (95% confidence interval [CI] = 1.001–1.004, p < 0.001) and 1.003 (95% CI = 1.002–1.004, p < 0.001) for LBP per standard deviation (SD) increase, respectively. Regarding smoking initiation and coffee consumption, the odds ratios stood at 1.002 (95% CI = 1.001–1.004, p = 0.001) and 1.004 (95% CI = 1.001–1.008, p = 0.034) for LBP, respectively. However, an augmented log odds ratio for T2D and each SD rise in alcohol consumption frequency revealed no significant causal impact on LBP risk. Conclusion: Our findings indicate a potential causal link between obesity, smoking, and coffee intake in the genesis of LBP, suggesting that mitigating these factors could contribute to LBP prevention. To analyze the damage characteristics of rocks during high-voltage pulse fragmentation (HVPF), two kinds of loads, shockwave and cavity, are determined by optical observation, and the pressure–time characteristics of these two and their mechanism of damage to rocks in mesoscopic view are analyzed. A model of dynamic damage characteristics of brittle rock under multiple loads is established, which includes numerical calculation and discrete element simulation. In the discrete element simulation, the rock is simplified as a circular region without reflection boundary with a certain size of the circular hole inside, and the grains in the region are discretized as rigid spheres with a definite bonding relationship. The shockwave is considered the time-varying pressure loaded to the grains of the circular hole, and the cavity is considered the quasi-static pressure loaded to the grains on both sides of the fracture. The results of the model show that shear cracks and tensile cracks are produced during the shockwave action, but tensile cracks are predominant. The shockwave acts as a preload for the expansion of cracks, and the damage radius is small. Most of the cracks in HVPF are caused by the cavity. A comparison of the numerical calculation results with the discrete element simulation results shows that the model can describe the distribution characteristics of cracks under multiple loads, which lays a foundation for further analysis of the internal mechanism of HVPF. Acid-sensing ion channels (ASICs) are proton-gated cation channels widely expressed in the nervous system. ASIC gating is modulated by divalent cations as well as small molecules; however, the molecular determinants of gating modulation by divalent cations are not well understood. Previously, we identified two small molecules that bind to ASIC1a at a novel site in the acidic pocket and modulate ASIC1 gating in a manner broadly resembling divalent cations, raising the possibility that these small molecules may help to illuminate the molecular determinants of gating modulation by divalent cations. Here, we examined how these two groups of modulators might interact as well as mutational effects on ASIC1a gating and its modulation by divalent cations. Recent magnetospheric observations and three‐dimensional (3D) kinetic simulations have shown that plasma wave activities are significantly enhanced around the reconnection x‐line, implying that the reconnection process is fully 3D. However, how the turbulence affects the local reconnection process has been poorly understood so far. We find by means of large‐scale particle‐in‐cell simulation in 3D system that the local reconnection rate can be significantly enhanced, reaching 0.4, which is much larger than theoretical predictions for two‐dimensional (2D) reconnection. The large reconnection rate is associated with large energy conversion rate and strong electron acceleration. The enhancement of the reconnection rate is caused by local increases of electron momentum transport and pressure gradient force induced by turbulence, which can not occur in 2D system. The result is expected to give better interpretations to in‐situ satellite observations where magnetic reconnection proceeds in 3D system. In this study, we investigate reconnection rate, a physical quantity that measures the speed of magnetic reconnection by using fully kinetic simulation, in which both electrons and ions are particles. We find very fast local reconnection processes in three‐dimensional system that far exceeds expectation. It indicates that magnetic reconnection is a three‐dimensional process. The high reconnection rate comes from the electrons rather than ions. And the main reason is the increasing of electron momentum transport and pressure gradient caused by strong turbulence, leading to a strong magnetic reconnection process in the current sheet. Although the dysregulation of bile acid (BA) composition has been associated with fibrosis progression, its precise roles in liver fibrosis is poorly understood. This study demonstrates that solute carrier family 27 member 5 (SLC27A5), an enzyme involved in BAs metabolism, is substantially downregulated in the liver tissues of patients with cirrhosis and fibrosis mouse models. The downregulation of SLC27A5 depends on RUNX family transcription factor 2 (RUNX2), which serves as a transcriptional repressor. The findings reveal that experimental SLC27A5 knockout (Slc27a5−/−) mice display spontaneous liver fibrosis after 24 months. The loss of SLC27A5 aggravates liver fibrosis induced by carbon tetrachloride (CCI4) and thioacetamide (TAA). Mechanistically, SLC27A5 deficiency results in the accumulation of unconjugated BA, particularly cholic acid (CA), in the liver. This accumulation leads to the activation of hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) by upregulated expression of early growth response protein 3 (EGR3). The re‐expression of hepatic SLC27A5 by an adeno‐associated virus or the reduction of CA levels in the liver using A4250, an apical sodium‐dependent bile acid transporter (ASBT) inhibitor, ameliorates liver fibrosis in Slc27a5−/− mice. In conclusion, SLC27A5 deficiency in mice drives hepatic fibrosis through CA‐induced activation of HSCs, highlighting its significant implications for liver fibrosis treatment. Mesoscale eddies have an impact on the marine environment mainly in two areas, namely, currents and changes in the sound velocity gradient due to temperature and salt stirring. The traditional underwater-related remote sensing acoustic remote sensing model is capable of analyzing the acoustic field under the change in sound velocity gradient, but it is not capable of analyzing the acoustic field under the influence of ocean currents. In order to more effectively analyze the changes in the acoustic field caused by mesoscale eddies, this paper proposes a FEM flow impact model applied to the rapid computation of acoustic remote sensing of mesoscale eddies in the sea area. The algorithm first performs a grid optimization of the sea area model based on vertical sound velocity variations and completes the classification of sound velocity layer junctions. At the same time, we construct the sound velocity gradient environment affected by the mesoscale eddy and then simplify the fluid flow in the mesoscale eddy into a non-viscous and non-rotating velocity potential, and then participate in the solution of the three-dimensional spatial fluctuation equations in the form of time-harmonic in the frequency domain, from which we can obtain the truncated sound pressure as well as the propagation loss, and quickly and completely characterize the acoustic remote sensing of the sea area of the mesoscale eddy. The paper verifies the effectiveness of the algorithm through SW06-contained flow experiments and further proposes an optimization formula for sound velocity inversion. We analyze this using measured data of mesoscale eddy fields in the Bering Sea waters during 2022 and find that eddies have a greater effect on the propagation of the acoustic field along their flow direction. Three-dimensional (3D) hepatocyte models have become a research hotspot for evaluating drug metabolism and hepatotoxicity. Compared to two-dimensional (2D) cultures, 3D cultures are better at mimicking the morphology and microenvironment of hepatocytes in vivo. However, commonly used 3D culture techniques are not suitable for high-throughput drug screening (HTS) due to their high cost, complex handling, and inability to simulate cell–extracellular matrix (ECM) interactions. This article describes a method for rapid and reproducible 3D cell cultures with ECM–cell interactions based on 3D culture instrumentation to provide more efficient HTS. We developed a microsphere preparation based on a high-voltage electrostatic (HVE) field and used sodium alginate- and collagen-based hydrogels as scaffolds for 3D cultures of HepG2 cells. The microsphere-generating device enables the rapid and reproducible preparation of bioactive hydrogel microspheres. This 3D culture system exhibited better cell viability, heterogeneity, and drug-metabolizing activity than 2D and other 3D culture models, and the long-term culture characteristics of this system make it suitable for predicting long-term liver toxicity. This system improves the overall applicability of HepG2 spheroids in safety assessment studies, and this simple and controllable high-throughput-compatible method shows potential for use in drug toxicity screening assays and mechanistic studies. Background: MYB transcription factors are splay a vital role in plant biology, with previous research highlighting the significant impact of the R2R3-MYB-like transcription factor MYB5 on seed mucilage biosynthesis, trichome branching, and seed coat development. However, there is a dearth of studies investigating its role in the regulation of proanthocyanidin (PA) biosynthesis. Results: In this study, a total of 51 MYB5 homologous genes were identified across 31 species belonging to the Brassicaceae family, with particular emphasis on Brassica napus for subsequent investigation. Through phylogenetic analysis, these genes were categorized into four distinct subclasses. Protein sequence similarity and identity analysis demonstrated a high degree of conservation of MYB5 among species within the Brassicaceae family. Additionally, the examination of selection pressure revealed that MYB5 predominantly underwent purifying selection during its evolutionary history, as indicated by the Ka/Ks values of all MYB5 homologous gene pairs being less than one. Notably, we observed a higher rate of non-synonymous mutations in orthologous genes compared to paralogous genes, and the Ka/Ks value displayed a stronger correlation with Ka. In B. napus, an examination of expression patterns in five tissues revealed that MYB5 exhibited particularly high expression in the black seed coat. The findings from the WGCNA demonstrated a robust correlation between MYB5 and BAN(ANR) associated with PA biosynthesis in the black seed coat, providing further evidence of their close association and co-expression. Furthermore, the results obtained from of the analysis of protein interaction networks offer supplementary support for the proposition that MYB5 possesses the capability to interact with transcriptional regulatory proteins, specifically TT8 and TT2, alongside catalytic enzymes implicated in the synthesis of PAs, thereby making a contribution to the biosynthesis of PAs. These findings imply a plausible and significant correlation between the nuique expression pattern of MYB5 and the pigmentation of rapeseed coats. Nevertheless, additional research endeavors are imperative to authenticate and substantiate these findings. AbstractThe study aimed to investigate the dynamic characteristics of the cervical spine and determine the effect of the material properties of the cervical spinal components on it. A finite element model of the head-cervical spine was developed based on CT scan data, and the first six orders of modes (e.g. flexion-extension, lateral bending, and vertical, etc.) were verified by experimental and simulation studies. The material sensitivity study was conducted by varying elasticity modulus of cervical hard tissues (cortical bone, cancellous bone, endplates, and posterior elements) and soft tissues (intervertebral disc and ligaments). The results showed that increasing the elastic modulus of ligaments by 4 times increased the natural frequency by 77%, while increasing that of cancellous bone by 4 times only increased the natural frequency by 6%. In the axial mode, the cervical spine had not only axial deformation but also anterior-posterior deformation, with the largest deformation located at the intervertebral disc C6-C7. Decreasing the elastic modulus of a component in soft tissues by 80% increased modal displacement by up to 62%. The material properties of the intervertebral discs and ligaments had opposite effects on the modal displacement and deformation of the cervical spine. Low cervical discs were more susceptible to injury in a vertical vibration environment. Cervical spine dynamics were more sensitive to soft tissue material properties than to hard tissue material properties. Background: Preeclampsia (PE) is a pregnancy-specific disorder with complex pathogenesis. Cuproptosis is a novel identified form of programmed cell death, however, the link between cuproptosis and clinical outcomes in PE is still not fully understood. In this study, we searched for cuproptosis-related genes (CRGs) in the placental tissues of normal and PE patients to clarify the importance of cuproptosis in the development of PE and provide potential predictive indicators for the occurrence of PE. Methods: Using RNA sequencing data in the GEO database, we conducted functional enrichment analysis of Gene Ontology (GO), Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) and Gene Set Enrichment Analysis (GSEA), supported by linear regression model and operating characteristic curve (ROC) curve analysis, and summarized the role of CRGs in preeclampsia. Results: A total of 2831 differentially expressed genes related to PE were screened through multiple database analyses. After further intersection with 19 reported CRGs, 5 CRGs have been closely associated with the pathogenesis of PE, including NFE2L2, PDHA1, PDHB, DLD and GLS. NFE2L2 was identified as a key central gene. Pearson correlation analysis showed that CRGs could be related to several maternal and fetal outcome factors, including the highest pregnancy blood pressure, placenta weight, umbilical blood flow pulsatility index (PI), and neonatal weight. Linear regression equation revealed that the expression of NFE2L2 is negatively correlated with the highest pregnancy blood pressure and umbilical blood flow PI but positively correlated with placental weight and neonatal weight. QRT-PCR showed that the expression of these CRGs was significantly lower in placental tissues. Background: Cytokines have been presumed to play an important role in the pathophysiology of functional dyspepsia (FD). Electroacupuncture (EA) has been used for FD treatment; however, its mechanisms remain largely unknown. This study aimed to (1) compare the plasma levels of cytokines, including tumor necrosis factor (TNF)‐α, interleukin (IL)‐1β, IL‐6, and IL‐10, in "FD" rats with normal control rats; (2) investigate whether EA, using chronically implanted electrodes, could inhibit the release of these cytokines; and (3) explore the correlation of cytokine levels with plasma norepinephrine (NE) levels and gastric emptying (GE). Methods: A rodent model of FD was established via neonatal treatment with intragastric iodoacetamide. After 8 weeks, the rats were implanted with electrodes at acupoint ST36 for EA. The plasma levels of cytokines and NE were measured using enzyme‐linked immunosorbent assay. We explored the correlations of cytokine levels with NE levels and GE. Key Results: (i) "FD" rats demonstrated increased levels of TNF‐α, IL‐1β, and IL‐6 (p < 0.05 each) compared with the control rats. (ii) EA significantly decreased the plasma levels of TNF‐α, IL‐1β, and IL‐6 in "FD" rats (p < 0.05 each) compared with sham EA. (iii) The plasma levels of NE were positively correlated with those of IL‐6 (r = 0.86, p < 0.05) and IL‐1β (r = 0.81, p < 0.05), whereas NE levels and GE were negatively correlated with IL‐10 levels (r = −0.870, p < 0.05 and r = −0.791, p < 0.05, respectively). Remote sensing technology is widely used to obtain evapotranspiration (ETa), but whether it can distinguish the differences in farmland energy balance components and ETa under different irrigation methods has not been studied. We used Landsat 8 data as the primary dataset to drive the METRIC model and inverted the surface parameters and ETa of the Shiyang River Basin from 2014 to 2018. After improving the METRIC model using Ta obtained by the regression method instead of interpolation to calculate the net radiation flux (Rn), R2 was improved from 0.45 to 0.53, and the RMSE was reduced from 61 W/m2 to 51 W/m2. The ETa estimation results on satellite overpass days performed well, with R2 equal to 0.93 and RMSE equal to 0.48 mm when compared with the Eddy covariance method (EC) observations. Subsequently, the different growth stages and daily average ETa estimates of maize were compared with three observations (water balance, WB; Bowen ratio and energy balance method, BREB; and EC). The daily estimates of ETa correlate well with the observations of BREB (R2BI = 0.82, R2DI = 0.92; RMSEBI = 0.46 mm/day, RMSEDI = 0.32 mm/day) and EC (R2BI = 0.85, R2DI = 0.92; RMSEBI = 0.45 mm/day, RMSEDI = 0.34 mm/day), and the estimation for drip irrigation was found to be better than for border irrigation. The total accuracy of the ETa estimation on the five-year overpass day of maize farmland reached R2 = 0.93 and RMSE = 0.48 mm. With sufficient remote sensing data, the 4-year average ETa of maize was 31 mm lower for DI than for BI, and the mean value of ETa obtained from the three observation methods was 40 mm. In rare diseases, there are many unanswered questions that are critical to clinical development. Among them, one important question is how to choose primary endpoints that translate into meaningful improvement of health outcomes for patients while maximizing trial probability of success at the same time. A natural history study is often recommended by regulatory agencies. Following this traditional approach has dampened enthusiasm for many drug developers because it entails much higher cost and longer timeline. We propose to use an innovative design that allows adaptation on primary endpoint(s) so that learning about disease endpoints can be done within the pivotal trial itself through a subset of patients (i.e., informational cohort). The overall Family Wise Error Rate (FWER) will be controlled through the use of combination test following partition testing principle. A case example in patients with Pompe disease is used to show that the proposed innovative design maintains robust power across treatment effect scenarios while traditional fixed design bears the high risk of failure due to incorrect endpoint selection. Even if multiple endpoints can be included as primary, the proposed innovative design can still improve power over traditional designs by optimizing alpha allocations in cases with differential treatment effects. The maritime route connecting the Chinese continent and the Japanese archipelago facilitated a significant exchange of commercial goods and sociocultural knowledge throughout the Southern Song dynasty. Within this context, Japanese pilgrim monks traveling along this route acted as key conduits for the transmission of Buddhist teachings. Their journeys profoundly influenced the establishment and development of new Buddhist monasteries in Japan. Focusing on biographical accounts that portray the experiences of these pilgrim monks during their twelfth- and thirteenth-century sea voyages, this paper aims to explore how these accounts drew on intertextual links with existing Buddhist records to fulfill the compilers' intentions. Specifically, this paper examines the structure and sources of biographical accounts detailing miraculous encounters between pilgrim monks and Buddhist deities during perilous situations at sea. By interpreting the role of these deities in the corpus of Buddhist literature and within Japanese Buddhist monasteries founded by pilgrim monks, this paper argues that the increasing emphasis on pilgrim monks' attainment of divine protection in their biographical records suggests a growing concern for reinforcing the authority of their dharma lineages. Moreover, the composition and reception of these miraculous accounts reflected the changing religious needs and reshaped strategies for promoting specific Buddhist sects in subsequent periods. The replacement of an Atomic Force Microscope (AFM) probe is inevitable due to blunting or contamination of its tip during usage. The fabrication of AFM probes is a complex and costly process, and the mechanical properties of these probes need to be calibrated due to material defects before use, making this procedure intricate. Taking inspiration from the Wollaston probe, we have developed a T-shaped tungsten probe and installed it into a home-made scanning probe microscope. The normal stiffness coefficient of this probe can be determined by gradually eroding the tip and altering the probe mass, resulting in a change in resonance frequency. We assess the reliability of this probe by comparing its scanning topography with that of a commercially available AFM. Furthermore, we investigate the wear resistance of the probe and demonstrate the effectiveness of re-corrosion sharpening after passivation, which yields scanning results equivalent to those obtained with a new probe. [Display omitted] Nickel- and iron-containing layered double hydroxides (NiFe-LDHs) are prospective electrocatalysts for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER), but they suffer from poor electrical conductivity and inaccessible active sites. Herein, we employ a facile and efficient quenching strategy to modify the morphology and surface characteristics of NiFe-LDHs by rapid cooling in a series of salt solutions. After quenching in a SnCl 4 solution, the modified NiFe-LDHs exhibit a low overpotential of 204 mV at a current density of 10 mA·cm−2 and Tafel slope of 58.0 mV·dec–1 in a 1.0 M KOH solution. The improvement in the oxygen-evolution performance is ascribed to the morphology transformation from agglomerated NiFe-LDHs flowers into dispersed two-dimensional NiFe-LDHs nanosheets, which offers more active sites for the OER. Metal atoms are also introduced to the surface of NiFe-LDHs nanosheets during quenching, thereby changing the chemical coordination environment between Ni and Fe and improving their conductivity. Considering the diversity of LDHs and salt solutions, this quenching strategy may provide a sophisticated approach to preparing stable non-noble-metal electrocatalysts for the OER. A new phenolic compound oleiphenol (1), and a new dihydrochalcone oleifechalcone (2) along with seven known compounds (3-9) were isolated from the fruit shell of Camellia oleifera Abel. The planar structures of compounds 1 and 2 were determined on the basis of extensive spectroscopic analyses (IR, UV, NMR, and HR-ESI-MS) and comparison with literature data. The absolute configurations of the new structures were determined by ECD calculations and chemical methods. Berberine has been demonstrated to alleviate cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury, but its neuroprotective mechanism has yet to be understood. Studies have indicated that ischemic neuronal damage was frequently driven by autophagic/lysosomal dysfunction, which could be restored by boosting transcription factor EB (TFEB) nuclear translocation. Therefore, this study investigated the pharmacological effects of berberine on TFEB-regulated autophagic/lysosomal signaling in neurons after cerebral stroke. A rat model of ischemic stroke and a neuronal ischemia model in HT22 cells were prepared using middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) and oxygen-glucose deprivation (OGD), respectively. Berberine was pre-administered at a dose of 100 mg/kg/d for three days in rats and 90 μ M in HT22 neurons for 12 h. 24 h after MCAO and 2 h after OGD, the penumbral tissues and OGD neurons were obtained to detect nuclear and cytoplasmic TFEB, and the key proteins in the autophagic/lysosomal pathway were examined using western blot and immunofluorescence, respectively. Meanwhile, neuron survival, infarct volume, and neurological deficits were assessed to evaluate the therapeutic efficacy. The results showed that berberine prominently facilitated TFEB nuclear translocation, as indicated by increased nuclear expression in penumbral neurons as well as in OGD HT22 cells. Consequently, both autophagic activity and lysosomal capacity were simultaneously augmented to alleviate the ischemic injury. However, berberine-conferred neuroprotection could be greatly counteracted by lysosomal inhibitor Bafilomycin A1 (Baf-A1). Meanwhile, autophagy inhibitor 3-Methyladenine (3-MA) also slightly neutralized the pharmacological effect of berberine on ameliorating autophagic/lysosomal dysfunction. Our study suggests that berberine-induced neuroprotection against ischemic stroke is elicited by enhancing autophagic flux via facilitation of TFEB nuclear translocation in neurons.
