Background: Nurses are the heart of any health care team and the perception of their role behavior is crucial for futuristic improvement. Role can be seen in term of role behavior and role expectation. Role behavior refers to the actual roles and responsibilities and how these roles should be played.The Aim of the Study: The current study seeks to explore nurses’ perception about own role behavior versus head nurses and patients perception.Material and Methods: Design: A descriptive comparative design was utilized.Setting: The study was conducted at two hospitals affiliated to Cairo University Hospitals.Sample: Included three hundred and ninety two of the staff nurses from each hospital. Thirty one of the head nurses working in selected units were included. One hundred and fifty of the patients who were admitted during data collection.Tool: Data was collected using questionnaire developed by the investigator consists of two parts: first part was related to participants' socio-demographic data, the second part: Includes items related to the perception of the staff nurses' role behavior.Results: The study revealed that the staff nurses (70% of the staff nurses mean percent) moderately positive perceived their role behavior, the head nurses also (75% of the head nurses mean percent) moderately positive perceived the staff nurses’ role behavior while the patients perception (60.4%) about the staff nurses’ role behavior was low, also there was statistically significance difference between both the staff nurses and the head nurses, the staff nurses and the patients about nurses’ role behavior.Conclusion: It was found discrepancy between the staff nurses’ and the head nurse’ perception, the patients and the staff nurse perception regarding the staff nurses’ role behavior.Recommendation: The study recommended that the nursing syndicate, nurse managers and nurses themselves must actively seeks means to use mass media, for transmitting information about nurses and nursing profession to create positive public's attitude toward nursing. The public image can be changed through provision of high quality nursing care, based on education, well training and nurse good role behaviors. Nursing care standardized procedure must be available in the units to be a base for training and evaluation. Further observational studies must be conducted to explore nurses’ role behavior.

The health system was reorganized in key best companies. They are introduced to the concepts of effectiveness and efficiency that has made quality the primary objective to be pursued in the delivery of health care. The quality is evaluated today starting through the Evidence Based Nursing that represents the extension, in the nursing field, Evidence Based Medicine. In the article we performed a systematic review of meta-analyzes in order to identify critical issues and good practice and see how the EBN in addition to theoretically enrich the discipline to answer the fundamental question underlying assessment using this approach.

The use of standardized nursing languages helps nurses understand patients' needs with precision and speed. This study assessed the knowledge of standardized nursing languages (SNL); how nurses perceive SNL and nurses utilization of SNL. The study adopted a cross sectional research design. Participants were recruited using convenience sampling technique. Data was collected using 5-sectioned self-structured questionnaires whose validity and reliability had been previously ascertained. Data collected was analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 20. Results showed that majority of the nurses that participated in the study are female (83.8%). Only 60.0% of the nurses know the number of steps in nursing process while very few (5.4%) can correctly define what SNLs is. Knowledge of SNLs shows that 26.2% have high knowledge; 44.6% moderate knowledge while 29.2% had low knowledge. Utilization of SNL by nurses showed that Majority (83.8%) of the nurses in the study agreed that utilization of SNL help nurses to deliver quality nursing care; 67.7% of nurses agreed that the use of SNL makes nursing practice unique, 55.4% opined that the use of SNL can be cumbersome while only 24.6% often use nursing process for patients' care. Although, participants in this study agreed that the use of SNL is crucial to quality nursing care, with poor utilization.

Physical Fatigue of nurses in the ICU is a condition that can be a burden or obstacle for nurses in providing quality nursing care for critical patients who are being treated in the ICU. This study identified the incidence of physical fatigue experienced by nurses in intesive care room. The research was conducted by using a survey using a population of nurses in the ICU room at the RSUD Martapura and RSUD Idaman Banjarbaru using cluster sampling. The results showed that most of the nurses at Martapura Hospital experienced moderate psychological fatigue and the majority of Banjarbaru Hospital nurses experienced mild The nurse management.must have right strategy to reduce the workload and prevent fatigue on nurses to increase quality care in ICU.

Introduction An increasing number of complex treatment regimens are utilized for the management of multiple myeloma (MM). Treatment schedules include multiple drugs, supportive measures, pathology tests and clinician reviews, however there is no universal scheduling template for Australian use. The Myeloma Specialist Practice Network (M-SPN) of the Haematology Society of Australia and New Zealand (HSANZ) works toward improving quality nursing care and outcomes for individuals with MM. Aim: To develop an online tool for clinicians to create individual MM treatment schedules to be printed and provided to patients to aid understanding, improve adherence and enhance myeloma patient care Method The M-SPN partnered with a health technology platform, myINTERACT to develop and deliver the online tool MyeTxScheduler. A nurse member working group developed content based on Cancer Institute NSW Cancer Treatments Online (eviQ) and real-world clinical experience. Standard MM protocols are included with ability to amend as clinically indicated. Patient identifiers are not included but added after printing. A recent update improved speed, functionality, added new standard protocols and provides links to additional patient information. 3 Haematologists and 2 oncology pharmacists provided content review. Patients provided input on final schedules. Results MyeTxScheduler is distributed through HSANZ membership but available to all clinicians as free download on iOS / Android tablet devices or online populating through the myINTERACT digital platform. 26 standard protocols provide pre-populated MM schedules. Users can amend each item, save, edit and clone schedules. Capacity to add additional drugs and amend notes allows flexibility for real world clinical application. Access MyeTxScheduler at https://rego.interact.technology/myetx/ Conclusion MyeTxScheduler enables clinicians the ability to create individualized treatment schedules to provide to their patients at the point of care, promoting and enhancing quality patient care and nurse understanding of the complex myeloma treatment journey.

Psychiatric nurses should have good communication skills and emotional awareness to provide quality nursing care. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of psychodrama on emotional awareness and communication skills in psychiatric nurses in Istanbul, Turkey. A randomized controlled trial study (pretest-posttest control group design) was conducted with 26 psychiatric nurses in Istanbul. The psychiatric nurses were evaluated in terms of emotional awareness assessed by the Levels of Emotional Awareness Scale and communication skills assessed by the Communication Skills Inventory. Two hours of psychodrama sessions (16 in total) were held once a week under the guidance of a psychodrama therapist and a co-therapist. The control group did not receive any intervention. The experimental group had significantly higher posttest total emotional awareness score and emotional communication skills score than pretest scores. There was no significant difference between the pretest and posttest scores of the control group. Psychodrama can be used to improve the communication skills and emotional awareness of psychiatric nurses.

This is a descriptive study conducted on patients and nurses in Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH), Kathmandu, Nepal to find out perception of quality nursing care. Structured interview questionnaire for patient and self-administered structure questionnaire for nurses were used to collect data. Main components of quality nursing care included nurses’ visit to the patient, understanding the need of patient, communication of nurses, information during admission procedure, and knowledge and competency of nurses. Highest number (60%) of nurses perceived that they visited patient without calling during their duty hour, but highest number (54%) of patients’ perceived nurses visited them only on request. Ninety six percent of nurses perceived that they communicated with the patient in friendly manner whereas, only 60% patients perceived in the same way. Eighty eight percent of nurses perceived that they provided information about daily routine activities in the hospital whereas; only 62% of patients had the same perception. All nurses perceived that they understood patient’ needs whereas; only 60% patients perceived the same. Similarly 88% nurses perceived that they were knowledgeable and competent, whereas 64% patients perceived nurses were knowledgeable and 72% perceived that nurses were competent.

Nursing research is imperative to the nursing profession in order to deliver a safe and quality nursing care. This study aimed to assess the attitude of staff nurses in a private tertiary hospital in Cagayan De Oro City. Specifically, this study determined the staff nurses' attitude towards nursing research and its significant relationship between their demographic profile in terms of interest and environmental support, pay off and benefits, and barriers to conducting research. The study was conducted through survey methodology and convenience sampling with 100 respondents who answered Boothe’s Attitude on Nursing Research. The statistical tools used were mean, standard variation, and one-way ANOVA. The results showed that the highest number among the respondents were females, between the age bracket of 20 to 25 years old, with regular employment status, most nurses were college degree holders and with 1 to 3 years of clinical experience. The test results showed a significant relationship between age in terms of interest and environmental support as well as age in terms of pay off and benefits. Indeed, nurses have generally positive attitude towards conducting research, Therefore, there must be a constant increase of awareness of the importance and the benefits of research. Background: This study will assess the effects of high quality nursing care (HQNC) on psychological outcomes (PCO) in patients with chronic heart failure (CHF). Methods: We will carry out a through search in 7 databases: PUBMED, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, Chinese Biomedical Literature Database, WANGFANG, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure. Eligibility criteria will be randomized controlled trials on assessing effects of HQNC on PCO in patients with CHF. Cochrane risk of bias evaluation will be utilized for methodological quality. Results: This proposed study will summarize a rational synthesis of current evidence for HQNC on PCO in patients with CHF. Conclusion: The results of this study will provide convinced evidence for judging the effects of HQNC on PCO in patients with CHF.

The therapeutic relationship constitutes the central axis of mental health nursing. The clinical practice environment has been empirically related to the quality of care. However, the relationship between the two constructs is unknown in the setting of mental health units. We aimed to examine whether the practice environment and nurses' characteristics influence the therapeutic relationship in mental health units. Through a cross-sectional design, data were collected via an online form completed by nurses in 18 mental health units. Linear regression was used to examine the relationship between the clinical practice environment and the therapeutic relationship. Questionnaires were completed by 198 participants. The mean age was 33.8 (SD 9.1) years, 71.7% were women, and only 20.2% had a specialist qualification in mental health. The therapeutic relationship was better when there was a more favourable practice environment (B: 3.111; 95% CI: 1.46-4.75). The most influential environment-related factor was the nursing foundations for quality of care (B: 2.124; 95% CI: 0.17-4.07). The factors associated with a high-quality therapeutic relationship were a more favourable practice environment and the presence of more foundations for quality nursing care, coupled with higher academic attainment and longer nursing experience. Institutions should take into account the importance of the nursing practice environment in mental health units. Aspects related to the quality of nursing foundations, such as training, the use of nursing language and taxonomy, and the existence of a common nursing philosophy, are influential for a high-quality therapeutic relationship.

Nursing reforms in Nigeria took a quantum leap in 2018 with the alignment of nursing education with the mainstream of tertiary education in the country. Year 2023 has been scheduled for full implementation of the reform. The ultimate goal of reforms in nursing education is delivery of quality nursing care. This review was undertaken to highlight the critical roles of nursing leaders in Nigeria towards ensuring that the reforms in nursing education translate to quality nursing practice. The six critical roles discussed in the paper are expected to stimulate necessary activities towards maximizing the gains of nursing education reforms in the interest of the citizens.

Purpose This study aimed to perform a concept analysis of quality nursing care. Methods Walker and Avant's concept analysis method was used to carry out this study. Results The defining attributes identified were as follows: caring, the nurse-patient relationship, and patient needs. Antecedents included patient characteristics, individual factors (age, education, knowledge, competence, and experience), job position, and environmental factors. The consequences of quality nursing care have significant influence on both patients and nurses. Conclusion The findings can aid researchers in obtaining a better understanding of quality nursing care, and stakeholders can consider the factors related to quality nursing care and its consequences to improve the nursing process.

Higher cognitive skills are essential competencies for nurses joining the technologically and increasingly complex health care environment to provide safe and effective nursing care. Educators and clinical facilitators have recognised that newly qualified nurses do not meet the expectations for entry level clinical judgement and are held accountable for finding adequate learning experiences as preparation for such practice demands. An explorative and descriptive qualitative design was followed in this study to reach an understanding of clinical judgement in the clinical nursing environment from the perspective of professional nurses. Eleven professional nurses (n = 11) working at primary health care clinics, public and private hospitals participated voluntarily. Data was collected by means of the “World Cafe” method, incorporating a combination of techniques such as interviewing, discussions, drawings, narratives and reflection. The focus was on professional nurses' knowledge of the meaning of clinical judgement and factors influencing the development of clinical judgement in the clinical environment. Qualitative thematic content analysis principles were applied during data analysis. The findings were integrated with the relevant literature to culminate in conclusions that should add to the knowledge base of clinical judgement as an essential skill for improving autonomous and accountable nursing care.Keywords: Clinical nursing environment, Cognitive reasoning skills, Quality nursing care, Nursing student

Background: Clinical examination is a crucial part of nursing training programmes for assessing nursing student competencies which ultimately lead to the delivery of quality nursing care. Two methods of clinical assessment have been identified [Traditional Practical Examination (TPE) and Objective Structured Clinical Examination(OSCE)] in nursing and allied professions globally. Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (N&MCN) had always used TPE for all clinical examinations in nursing but adopted OSCE two decades ago for only midwifery examination while the examination in general nursing still remains TPE. There is dearth of literature on the perception of these two methods in Nigeria hence this study. This will help to determine best preferred method for clinical assessment among nursing students in Nigeria. Methods: The study utilised one-group quasi experimental design. Two Hospital-based and two University-based nursing schools randomly selected in South-west Nigeria participated in the study. Purposive sampling technique was used to select 187 nursing students out of which 157 participated in the study. T-test, ANOVA and chi-square were used to analyze the data at 0.05level of significance. Results: Significant difference existed between the mean scores of the two practical examinations: TPE 59.31+2.92, OSCE 64.59+5.15, t=3.29, p=0.002. OSCE was perceived to be more objective compared to TPE, p=0.000, consume less time p=0.010, assessed wider range of learned materials, p=0.000, less destabilizing during practical session, p=0.001, less stressful p=0.002. Perception on which method demands more preparation showed no significant difference between OSCE and TPE, p=0.097. Lastly, 56.8% of participants preferred OSCE to TPE, p=0.001. Conclusion: OSCE is perceived to be a better method than TPE. It is recommended that OSCE should be adopted as method of practical examination for nursing training programmes in Nigeria.

Contents: Medication administration is an integral part of delivering quality nursing care. The nurse intern should follow the specific guidelines to enhance their medication administration safety. Aim: The study aims to assess the nurse intern's medication administration safety performance. Methods: The study conducted at Ain Shams University Hospitals using the descriptive design on 90 nurse interns by using three tools, namely, medication administration knowledge questionnaire, the observational checklist for nurse interns' safety performance, and Medication Administration safety Attitude Rating Scale. Results: Findings of the study revealed that the minority of nurse interns (4.3%) had satisfactory total knowledge, 39% had adequate total practice, and around two-thirds of them (62.6%) had a positive attitude. Conclusion: It is concluding that the nurse interns had unsatisfactory knowledge of medication administration safety, and their related practices are mostly inadequate, although the attitude tends to be high. The study recommended that nurse internship programs should emphasize medication administration safety knowledge and practice with more focus on identified gaps and deficiencies. Further research is proposed to assess the effect of training strategies on the nurse intern's medication administration safety.

Introduction: Telemonitoring improves quality nursing care, its make decisions quickly and accurately based on the signs and symptoms of patients who are monitored everyday. The use of telemonitoring also has the potential to increase nurse productivity, where documentation time is reduced so that nurses have more time doing patient care activities. Purpose: Provide an overview and ideas of the benefits of telemonitoring in various diseases that facilitate observation and save nurses' time in improving the quality nursing care through literature review.Discussion: Results of review from 10 selected journals, concluded that the use of telemonitoring at home and hospitals in various disease mostly feasible to apply, although in some studies there are no significant differences between telemonitoring and without telemonitoring. Topic Significance & Study Purpose/Background/Rationale Fluctuating patient census often requires inpatient nurses to float to other units in the hospital. When nurses float to unfamiliar units, it increases stress, anxiety and frustration which can negatively impact quality of care and patient safety. Methods, Intervention, & Analysis Due to concerns voiced by nurses on the hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT) inpatient unit at an academic medical center, a unique collaboration was initiated between the inpatient HSCT unit and the outpatient HSCT clinic. Nurses from the HSCT inpatient unit floated either to a unit in the hospital or to the outpatient HSCT clinic. Staffing assignments were reviewed from January to September of 2019 to identify the frequency of floating in the HSCT inpatient nurse. Surveys regarding floating were constructed and emailed to HSCT inpatient and outpatient nurses and collected for 2 weeks. Findings & Interpretation Inpatient HSCT nurses floated 89 times (65 times to outpatient HSCT clinic, 6 times to different units during day shift, and 18 times to different units during night shift) during the assessment period. Inpatient nurses preferred to float to the outpatient HSCT clinic due to familiar patient population and the feeling of competence and confidence in providing quality nursing care for these patients. Inpatient nurses also experienced less distress with floating to the HSCT outpatient clinic. The outpatient clinic nurses reported that benefits of having HSCT inpatient nurses include familiarity with the HSCT patient population and improved continuity of care. Outpatient nurses added that because inpatient HSCT nurses are familiar with the processes of HSCT, they tend to need less help which takes less time away from patient care. Discussion & Implications When nurses are floated to an environment where they feel competent, the nurses' perception of stress, anxiety and frustration are greatly decreased. Due to the frequency of floating to the outpatient HSCT clinic, the importance of a more structured orientation to the clinic was discussed with leadership. Next steps would include reviewing the safety data over the trial timeframe to explore the number of safety events and developing a more systematic orientation to increase inpatient HSCT nurse competence in the outpatient clinic.

A Care bundle is a group of three to five evidence-based interventions which, when performed together, have a better outcome than if performed individually. Care bundles can be used to ensure the delivery of the minimum standard of care. It is a set of interventions that, when used together, significantly improve patient outcomes. Multidisciplinary teams work together to deliver the best possible care supported by evidence-based research and practices, with the ultimate outcome of improving patient care. The steps of the care bundle are carefully selected, well-established practices that are packaged together and scientifically supported. The focus of the bundle is on how to deliver the best care using a clear-cut method to provide the best possible outcome for patient.

The future of the nursing profession foresees challenges such as downsizing, changing skill mixes, and higher acuity patients (LeDuc & Kotzer, 2009; World Health Organization, 2013). Nursing students must be adequately prepared to handle such challenges by understanding their own values, the values of their colleagues, and the values of the collective nursing profession (Hahn, 2011; Hamlin & Gillespie, 2011; LeDuc & Kotzer, 2009). Yet, given the fact that nursing is now highly diversified by generational cohorts, each of whom have their own unique set of values and understanding, relating to fellow nurses and working collaboratively is more difficult than ever (Mangold, 2007). Recognizing generational differences as a potential barrier to quality nursing care and a cause of workplace conflict, educators in the profession have begun to tailor courses and teaching styles to meet the distinct needs of generationally diverse classes and work settings (Faithfull-Byrne, Thompson, Convey, Cross, & Moss, 2015; Hamlin & Gillespie, 2011; Mangold, 2007). To aide in this process, the professional development workshop proposed here will provide educators with an opportunity to learn more about generational diversity and offer strategies to maximize learning for all generations in the nursing field.

The objective of the scoping review is to locate and describe the international literature relating to Nursing Sensitive Indicators (NSIs) and their use in evaluating geriatric care. Specifically the review question is: What definitions and key concepts of NSIs are identified in the current literature that are relevant in evaluating nursing care of the older person?Findings from the review will inform future research and health care responses to support the provision of quality nursing care to the older person.

This thesis deals with the influence of the difference between the theory and practice of the nursing care on the quality of care. Quality nursing care is the fundamental goal of the contemporary nursing care. The aim of the thesis is to find out the extent and means of providing a quality care under the current conditions. A method of qualitative research survey with the semi-structured interview was used to carry out the aim of this thesis. The research question is aimed at determining in what way and to what extent a quality care can be provided under the current circumstances. The research sample consists of qualified nurses and health care assistants working in the hospital. The questions, which respondents were asked, were focused on e.g. an education, importance of practice, communication, ethical code etc. Dialogues were recorded and transcribed. They were analysed by the pencil - paper method. The results of the survey showed that in the context of quality nursing care, the education is important to a certain extent and the nurse experience has an important role as well. By practice, the nurse gains more experience and skills to implement to her nursing care. Another important factor influencing the quality of nursing care and creating the difference between theory and experience is mostly the transfer of theoretical knowledge into practice. The nurse's work is often compromised by the impossibility of transferring the acquired theoretical knowledge into practice. The research has shown that quality nursing care is provided to a certain extent. The level of the provided care affects many other factors, apart from those mentioned above, e.g. a compliance level with the Code of Ethics, non-utilization and ignorance of the conceptual models, sufficient amount of material on providing the nursing care, quality of communication between a nurse and a patient and an adherence to patients' rights. The thesis is created as an informational source especially for the medical professions pointing to the difference between the theory and the practice which needs to be addressed.

MBA, North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, 2018 The South African Nursing profession is experiencing a crisis – this is the opinion of various academics as well as politicians. Addressing the crisis is not necessarily always within the ability of nursing personnel, but rather various stakeholders on provincial and national level. Guided by the research question “What currently prevents basic quality nursing care in Government hospital institutions?” a scientific investigation was undertaken. The main goal was to investigate obstacles that hinder nursing personnel to deliver basic quality patient care in these institutions. Two district hospitals were identified in the eastern parts of Gauteng. The objectives set out for this study were: • to determine whether adequate staffing is available to render nursing care; • to evaluate whether current nurses experience job satisfaction at the institution; • to determine whether nursing staff have access to necessary resources to deliver quality nursing care; and • to evaluate whether nursing staff receive the necessary support and supervision from relevant superiors while performing nursing duties. A quantitative approach was applied with a descriptive non-experimental design. The population comprised all the nursing staff available at the time of data collection working in five different units, as selected by the researcher, in the two district hospitals. Data collection was done using a structured questionnaire. Ethical clearance was obtained from the North-West University and informed consent from the participants was also obtained. From a population of 115, the final sample of nursing staff was N=50; all members were initially invited to participate. The questionnaires were collected by the researcher personally and it was analysed with the support of a statistician from the North-West University. The data was expressed in tables and frequencies. Comparisons between variables were made using cross-tabulations with a Cramer’s V and phi coefficient. The reliability of the Likert scale questionnaire was determined through the - ii - calculation of a Cronbach alpha for sections of the instrument and an average of 0.7 was achieved. This indicated a high reliability of the data. The following recommendations were made according to the four research questions after an in-depth study was undertaken to identify key issues regarding obstacles that hinder the quality of basic nursing care. When these key issues are addressed, it might be the start of a positive change in the way nursing staff perceive the quality of nursing care they have to render in terms of adequate staff provision, increasing job satisfaction that nurses are experiencing currently in these institutions, which has a direct effect on their ability to deliver quality nursing care. Furthermore, the role that nursing management plays in nurses’ ability to deliver quality care was investigated, as well as, lastly, the availability of equipment and consumables that nurses need to render proper patient care. Research utilization is the implementation of research-based findings in practice clinical setting to provide services to consumers. It is the critical way to strengthen the discipline and practice of nursing to provide quality nursing care to consumers of nursing that may be individual, family or community but different factors/barriers preventing the nurses to implement the research finding into the practice. The aims of this article are firstly to introduce about research utilization among nurses, secondly to present barriers of research utilization to nurses and lastly to discuss the ways of promoting research utilization among nurses in developed and developing countries like Nepal. For these purposes, different electronic and database literatures related to research utilization among nurses are searched, reviewed and presented here to by giving meaningful organization and presentation. This article presents progress in development of research utilization in developed and developing countries, barriers of research utilization including valid scale to measure barriers of research utilization and ways of promoting research utilization among nurses. Most common barriers that prevent nurses from implementing research findings include not having enough time; lack of institutional or financial support; insufficient support from colleagues; shortage of personnel and resources; not able to understand research reports; lack of knowledge; and the dependence of nurses on doctors and managers in making changes in clinical practice. Background The concept of quality nursing care in a dementia specific unit is perceived as being subject to the interpretation of individuals, nurses and healthcare organisations. As the number of dementia diagnoses increases, understanding what constitutes quality nursing care within dementia specific care units is vital to inform policy makers and healthcare organisations globally. Efforts to identify quality nursing care and improve dementia care within dementia specific care units, may significantly reduce the financial and emotional burden of care-giving and improve the quality of life for individuals living with dementia. This scoping review aimed to examine current literature to gain an understanding of what constitutes quality nursing care in a dementia specific care unit. Design and methods Five electronic databases (CINAHL, MEDLINE, ProQuest, Social Sciences Citation Index and Ovid) were used to search for articles published in English between 2011 and 2016 focusing on a definition of quality nursing care within dementia specific care units. Findings: Twenty journal articles were identified. From these articles, two content themes were identified: Challenges in the provision of quality nursing care in dementia specific care units, and Standardised approach to quality nursing care in a dementia specific care unit. The articles contained the following research designs, controlled pre-test and post-test design ( n = 1), focus group interviews ( n = 1), cross sectional survey ( n = 6), semi structured interviews ( n = 3), narrative review ( n = 1), survey ( n = 2), literature review ( n = 3), systematic review ( n = 1), and prospective longitudinal cohort study ( n = 2). Conclusions The concept of quality nursing care in a dementia specific unit remains subject to the interpretation of individuals, nurses and healthcare organisations, with current literature unable to provide a clear definition. Further research into what constitutes quality nursing care in dementia specific care units is recommended.

Background: The quality of nursing care rendered today is markedly reducing and the amount of time spent with patients listening to and explaining issues concerning their conditions is gradually diminishing. The therapeutic touch and the listening ear of the nurse are no longer accessible to the patient. Understanding what non-technical skills are and their relevance for healthcare practitioners has become a new area of consideration. Although recent literature has highlighted the necessity of introducing soft skills training and assessment within medical education, nursing education is yet to fully embrace this skills training.Objectives: The aim of this study was to explore nursing students’ understanding of the concept of soft skills and to acquire their perception on the need for soft skills training to promote quality nursing care.Methods: A quantitative research design with descriptive and explorative strategies was used. One hundred and ten nursing students were sampled after permission to conduct the study was requested and obtained from the University of KwaZulu-Natal Ethics Committee.Results: The results indicated that a majority (68.8%) of respondents understood the concept of soft skills and agreed with the definition of ‘soft skills’. They furthermore agreed that soft skills should be part of the training that student nurses receive during their professional training.Conclusion: The study revealed that there is a need for nursing students to be educated in soft skills and that this will enhance their job performances in the clinical environment and improve the way in which they communicate with their clients.

Background: Hospitals are facing difficulties to providing a consistent level of quality nursing care in a fastchanging health environment due to the shortage of experienced nurses which is a critical global issue. A number of nurses were quitting their profession to continue career in another profession in clinical and non-clinical fields. Factors that cause these problems were not investigated in Ethiopia yet. This study aims to assess the level of intention to stay in the nursing profession and its predictors among nurses working in Jimma Zone public Hospitals.Methods: Institution based cross-sectional study was conducted on 317 nurses. Structured self-administered questionnaires were used to collect data. Data were entered and cleaned by using Epi-data version 3.1 then exported to IBM SPSS version 20 for analysis. Independent sample t-test, one-way ANOVA, and linear regression were done to see mean difference and association of variables. P-value of less than 0.05 was taken as statistically significant.Result: The overall level of intention to stay is 57.75% of which 133 (42%) of them had low, 95 (30%) of them have moderate and the rest 89 (28.1%) have a high level of intention to stay in the profession. Organizational and professional commitment, working hospital, job satisfaction, organizational factor, and job-related stress were identified as predictors of intention of nurses to stay in their profession.Conclusion: The overall level of intention to stay is low. Only less than one-third of nurses have high intention to stay in their profession in this study. Improving this level of intention needs collaborative intervention in related factors which are a big homework for managers on health sectors of Jimma zone public Hospitals.

The journey to excellence in healthcare is a path that requires a constantly cultivated environment. Paying attention to and adapting this environment is key to sustaining competency and consistency, 2 important factors in delivery of safe, quality nursing care. For the new graduate registered nurse (RN), ensuring a nurturing environment for transition from academia to practice is essential if sustainability of excellence in healthcare is to be achieved—the goal of hospitals and nursing practices across the United States.

Caring behaviour is central to all health care organizations and their employees. Nurses spend considerable time with patients and they are ethically bound to provide quality nursing care, regardless of their patients’ social class, gender or ethnic background. To improve patients’ experience of care, it is important that nurses are aware of factors – both within themselves and in their working environment – that might influence their attitude and behaviour. The purpose of this study was to describe and assess factors contributing to nurses’ negative behaviour at a public health facility in Namibia. A quantitative, non-experimental, explorative and descriptive design was used. Simple random sampling was used to select 64 nurses. A pre-tested questionnaire was used to collect data, which were then analysed with the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS), version 23, using descriptive statistics. The study results showed a strong association of nurses’ negative behaviour to management’s reluctance to address the nurses’ negative behaviour, 85.9% (55) and patients’ behaviour and cultural practices 73.4% (47). The study recommended that rewarding nurses who display acceptable behaviour would be one of the cost effective strategy to motivate nurses who display professional behaviour.

Quality nursing care is something that the patient wants and it is promised by the nurse. However, at this time there are still many complaints of the community, the patient's family and patients on the quality of services provided by the nurse. This study aims to see differences in the relationship of work culture with the quality of nursing service in Muhammad Sani Karimun hospital as a public hospital and Bakti Timah Karimun hospital as a privat hospital in 2018. Design of this research is Comparative design. Samples were taken stratified random sampling with total of 60 nurses for Muhammad Sani Karimun hospital and 60 nurses for Bakti Timah hospital. The result of statistical test at Muhammad Sani Karimun hospital shows there is a relationship of work culture of nurse (p value = 0, 006). Likewise in Bakti Timah hospital found a relationship of work culture nurse (p value = 0, 005) with quality service nursing. Furthermore Mann Whitney test obtained service quality variables (p value = 0.006) has a difference between Muhammad Sani Karimun hospital and Bakti Timah Karimun hospital. However, for nurse work culture variable (p value = 0, 570) there is no difference. This research is expected to be an input for the related hospitals so as to improve the quality of nursing service in particular.

This study aimed to explore the practical effect and reasonable evaluation methods of specialized high quality nursing care in operating room. Stratified random sampling was used to select 93 nurses from the operating rooms of two affiliated hospitals of Kunming Medical University in Yunnan Province. A set of “Specialized High Quality Nursing Care Items in Operating Room” was implemented in the operating rooms of the two hospitals simultaneously. The “Task Performance and Contextual Performance Scale” was used to measure and collect data of nurses in operating room before and after the implementation of the items. After the “Specialized High Quality Nursing Care Items in Operating Room” was implemented, the task performance total score and dimension scores of patient care, nursing information provision and specialized nursing skills were (58.59±1.77), (19.27±1.16), (19.50±1.11), (19.80±0.70), respectively, higher than the respective scores (37.21±1.92), (5.55±0.70), (13.78±1.12), (17.87±0.98) before the implementation, and the differences were statistically significant (t=−82.48 to −15.15, P

Background and Objectives: Nursing licensure examination is considered a gold standard is fast becoming a minimum standard in clinical practice in the nursing profession. A comprehensive literature review facilitates the aggregation of diverse literature from a variety of contexts pertaining to nursing students’ academic performance and its relation to success in nursing licensure examination. This review investigates nursing students’ academic performance and its relation to success in nursing licensure examination. Methods: CINAHL, Medline, Web of Science, ProQuest— Nursing and Allied Health Database, PubMed, and Science Direct Taylor & Francis databases were searched. Results: All studies (n=15) were conducted in the United States. Two major themes were derived from the synthesis of the findings: (i) Nursing academic courses and their grades, (ii) Different types of test-taking assessment skills strategies. Conclusion: Nursing academic courses and their grades and different types of test-taking assessment skills strategies are significantly associated with the success of the nursing licensure examination. Conclusion: More research could deliver further suggestion for nursing programs to develop actions regarding different types of test-taking assessment skills strategies and academic progression policies. This could encourage graduates to pass the nursing licensure examination and improved safe quality nursing care. This review highlights the student’s factors in success for NLE and increasing current effective actions for enhancing NLE readiness.

The patient expects to receive high quality nursing care, delivered promptly and efficiently by nurses who appear to be satisfied with their workload .This study aims at measuring nurses’ workload at trauma and post operative intensive care units. Methods: the subjects consisted of the total number of admitted patients, 112 patients at trauma ICU and 111 patients at post operative ICU and total number of nurses was 68 at trauma ICU and 23 at post operative ICU. Data collected for the period of 3 months by observation of nursing care given to all admitted patients at the selected sites for 24 hours from admission to discharge and Results: Trauma ICU patients and(nursing care given to the patient take about two thirds of 24 hours daily), post operative ICU patients had a workload. Conclusions and Recommendations: As NAS is a new workload measurement system at Assiut University Hospital and almost at Egypt it should be significantly used routinely to identify nurses' workload and to quantify staffing for effective use of nursing resource so: it is important to applying (NAS) to retain staff, and avoid waste of time and Inform staff with patient care results.

Patient's satisfaction has emerged as a central focus of health-care delivery during the last decades, and nursing care became one significant component of patient's satisfaction. The purpose of this study is to examine patients' satisfaction with quality of nursing care provided in Saudi Arabia. Cross-sectional descriptive correctional design was used to recruit 100 patients from one regional hospital in Saudi Arabia. Data collected using structured interview from patients related to six dimensions of nursing care. Patients had a high level of satisfaction with nursing care provided (86% agreement rate). Language (56% disagreement rate), discharge information (56% disagreement rate) and availability (20% disagreement rate) have been identified with the lowest rates of patients satisfaction. Nursing leaders and health-care administrators need to maintain quality nursing care and develop strategies for improving nursing care emphasizing language as barrier and strategies of information dissemination.
