The concentration of six different trace metals [vanadium (V), nickel (Ni), chromium (Cr), lead (Pb), copper (Cu) and cadmium (Cd)] were determined in various fruit and vegetables [peach (Prunus persica L.), plum (Prunus domestica L.), tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.), courgette or marrow (Cucurbita pepo L.) and lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.)] provided by diverse farms. Metal distribution was also separately evaluated, in skin and pulp, where it was possible. Their contributions to human daily intake of trace metals were investigated. Atomic absorption spectrometry was used to determine the concentrations of these metals in the fruit and vegetables. All traces of elements tested in peaches and tomatoes were higher in the skin than in the pulp except for Cd in the peaches; all traces of elements tested in plums and marrows were higher in the pulp than in the skin. The concentrations of Pb and Cd in lettuce were 1.3 and 2.7 times above the permissible levels, respectively. It is concluded that the regular monitoring of food trace metals is very important to prevent diseases that depend on their excessive accumulation in the human food chain., Les traces de six différents métaux [vanadium (V), nickel (Ni), chrome (Cr), plomb (Pb), cuivre (Cu) et le cadmium (Cd)] ont été évaluées dans différents fruits et légumes [pêches (Prunus persica L.), prunes (Prunus domestica L.), tomates (ì Solanum lycopersicum L.), courgettes (Cucurbita pepo L.) et laitues (Lactuca sativa L.)] provenant de diverses exploitations agricoles. La distribution a également été évaluée séparément dans la peau et la pulpe, lorsqu'il a été possible. Leur contribution à l'absorption quotidienne humaine de traces de métaux a été étudiée. La spectrométrie d'absorption atomique a été utilisée pour déterminer les concentrations de ces métaux dans les fruits et légumes. The contents of some nutrients [Phosphorus (P), Potassium (K), Magnesium (Mg), Iron(Fe), Calcium(Ca), Selenium(Se), Zinc(Zn) and Sodium(Na)] and trace metals [Vanadium (V), Nickel (Ni), Chromium (Cr), Lead (Pb), Copper (Cu), Aluminum (Al) and Cadmium (Cd)] were determined in 30 cherry accessions from a farm for collections of Campania Region. Data have highlighted a high nutrient contents in the local accessions and often higher than commercial ones. In particular, it was observed that the Bologna accession showed higher contents of P, Mg, K and Se, and also high concentrations of Ca, Na, Zn, Fe. N2 fixation (ARA), denitrification (acetylene block) and N2O and CH4 emissions were measured throughout the year in a Pinus laricio Poiret forest in Sila Mountains (Southern Italy) on a subacid sandy shallow soil on granite. Both litter and superficial soil layers (0-5 cm) showed similar levels and annual patterns of activities. Soil metabolic activity (CO2 evolution) was very low in the dry period as well as during winter. ARA showed the highest level in the spring (20.5 μmol m-2 3h-1 in May) and lower level in fall and winter. Denitrification was negligible from April to September but reached high values during fall and winter with a peak (2.48 μmol N2O m-2 3 h-1) for litter in December. N2O and CH4 emissions showed a pattern very similar to that observed for denitrification. The data presented are the first ones for mediterranean coniferous forest.

Sono state studiate le caratteristiche anatomiche e fisiologiche connesse con l'adattamento all'aridità di cinque specie del genere Sansevieria. La fo¬tosintesi CAM, riscontrata in tutte le specie studiate, svolge un ruolo es¬senziale nella tolleranza all'aridità. Inoltre in tutte le specie esaminate è risultata molto elevata la resistenza alla perdita dell'acqua, grazie soprat¬tutto al ridotto numero di stomi e all'elevato spessore della cuticola. Sulla base dei risultati sono state riconosciute come importanti strategie nell'adat¬tamento all'aridità 1) la riduzione dell'interfaccia foglia-aria che si manifesta con la tendenza della foglia alla chiusura per saldatura dei margini e con la tendenza alla succulenza; 2) l'orientamento delle foglie parallelo ai raggi incidenti; 3 ) la riduzione del numero delle foglie per pianta. Le specie degli ambienti estremamente aridi presentano tutte e tre le caratteristiche, quelle degli ambienti meno xerici hanno, invece, foglie piatte, numerose e non erette. Tutte le possibili situazioni intermedie si possono riconoscere nelle specie di ambienti moderatamente aridi. Viene presentato uno schema delle possibili relazioni evolutive tra specie del genere Sansevieria con differente grado di adattamento all'aridità.

Decomposition dynamic showed 3 phases: weight loss in phase I (1st wk) was mainly due to leaching; during phase II (1st yr) decomposition rates were high and varied with beech in the beech stand = fir > beech in the beech-fir stand; during phase III decomposition rates were low and there was some absolute increase in the weight of leaves of both species. The kinetics of decomposition of beech leaves (Fagus sylvatica L.) and fir needles (Abies alba) in the forests of M. Taburno (Campania Apennines) were compared in a beech stand and in a beech-fir stand and, within the beech-fir stand, in the Aoo layer and at 1.5 m above the forest floor. Beech leaves decompose at a lower rate in the 1st year but rather faster than fir in later stages of decomposition. N concentration increases linearly with the mass loss of litter. Nitrogen immobilization, expressed as N equivalent (=mg N/g mass loss), is much higher in fir than in beech in the later stages of decomposition; however in the 1st year lower rate of decomposition in beech leaves are related to higher N immobilization compared with fir. -from English summary
