113. Investigation on the optimal ultra-precision machining of nitriding mold steel by in-situ laser assisted diamond cutting

Abstract

S136 (STAVAX ESR) mold steel is an advanced material for the optical mold industry. The precisely machined surface quality is essential for guaranteeing the excellent performance of molds. Diamond cutting is a high-efficiency machining technique in optical mold manufacturing. However, the chemical wear of diamond tool is a huge challenge in precisely machining steel mold due to the reaction between atoms C and Fe. In this study, the hybrid machining technique which combined the in-situ laser assisted diamond cutting (LADC) and plasma nitriding was used to machine S136 mold steel. Furthermore, the impact of the various machining conditions on the machined workpiece surface roughness Sa was comprehensively investigated by the Taguchi method (TM) and Response surface methodology (RSM). The experimental results of material characterization indicated that a 90 μm nitride layer was generated on the workpiece surface by plasma nitriding. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) results demonstrated that the feed rate and laser power had an important impact on the machined surface roughness Sa. According to the RSM, a precise mathematical model was developed which is explored by experimental investigations. The results showed that the optimal machining parameter combination by RSM generated the better surface quality of 6.393 nm in in-situ LADC of nitriding steel. This study provides a reference for mold steel ultra-precision machining technique and parameter optimization method for surface integrity.

Abstract

In the modern business environment, there is growing number of companies placing weight on sustainability-related issues, such as waste management, local communities, use of resources etc. At the same time such stakeholders as investors, consumers, employees and communities are increasingly interested in understanding company’s efforts and progresses in the area of sustainability. With that respect, sustainability reporting emerging as a very important tool, which allows companies to increase transparency and accountability of their businesses, while also helps them to improve sustainability performance. This study has been base on the leading sports and utility transportation company, named Thule. The purpose of this study was to identify if there was a need for Thule in sustainability reporting and how the perspective report might look like. In order to achieve these goals, we conducted online survey, phone and personal interviews among 21 different size, business sector and location companies all around the world. Based on the conducted research and considering the current trends, perspective benefits and Thule’s future plans, we identified the set of reasons for Thule to start the reporting on its sustainability performance. The research also allowed us, to suggest a general view of how the perspective report could look like, as well as to give some general suggestions on what sort of perspective challenges Thule might be faced with when starting the reporting. In addition, the companies experience that has been collected during the study combined with the suggestions from 3 professional consultants, allowed us to define some general aspects of the reporting process and consequently, to give some general recommendations on the process of organization of the reporting. 123. Lund University Website Evaluation: Focus on homepage and English research pages

Abstract

The present universities have their own websites to achieve academic goals, and for this reason, the process of maintaining a high quality and effective website is vital for a university to strengthen its unpredictable creativity and entrepreneurialism. The aim of this study was to develop and validate university website usability, quality and performance, especially focuses on English homepage and research pages. In addition, we will develop a model of how to evaluate university website. Specific objectives were to identify major usability issues and provide a foundation for future development work. The web evaluation methods adopted during the study fall into three major classes: usability testing, user feedback and usage data. Results indicated that English information on website is incomplete, layout and design of the English homepage need to be improved, and the quality of the English research pages varied dramatically. Some web pages were of high standard, enabling quick access to current research and reinforcing the university’s brand as a high quality university conducting world’s leading research. Other web pages were a usability disaster, giving poor user satisfaction and negatively affecting the credibility of the university. The study recommends making an improvement in content, design, layout and new technology, it is necessary to work closely with the faculties and institutes on a ‘case by case’ basis, and finally to improve site performance.

Abstract

Using the center of figure method and center of mass method, precipitation and heavy precipitation processes caused by No. 9 typhoon " Muifa" in 2011 were analyzed based on helicity, and the mechanism of typhoon rainfall was interpreted from the relation between helicity and energy. The results showed that horizontal helicity checked the diffusion of nonlinear energy and maintained the development of the system. Precipitation mainly appeared on the southeast of vertical helicity, while heavy precipitation mainly occurred on its southwest. Compared with the center of figure method, the center of mass method had good results, especially for heavy precipitation. Vertical helicity at 700 hPa reflected system deviation in rainfall regions well and had the best correction effect on rainfall intensity and regions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The dynamical motion of a classical particle in a potential taken as the sum of harmonic oscillator and time-independent or time-dependent multipolar Legendre function was investigated. Starting from various initial conditions, with increasing strength of the Legendre potential, which broke down the rotational invariance of the system, the dynamical behavior of the particle changed from regular to chaotic type. Meanwhile the local curvature of the potential surface may change from positive to zero, and negative sign. This negative curvature was demonstrated to be responsible for the local instability of a trajectory. Only via the mechanism of chaotic particle motion could the time-dependent potential permanently exchange energy with the particle. Contrasting this phenomenon with properties of independent particle model of nucleus with spherical or deformed shape would shed light on the foundation of significant property of the corresponding quantum system and the mechanism of the energy dissipation during nuclear reaction process.
