PV Module Performance and Reliability ,Performance, Reliability and Sustainability of Photovoltaic Modules and Balance of System Components - Abstract
33rd European Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference and Exhibition; 1694-1697, To estimate long-term reliability of silicon photovoltaic modules within a short period of time, a new accelerated testing based on thermal cycling stress have been developed. Degradation modes induced by the testing or a time to induce a certain amount of degradation was estimated by using only one kind of photovoltaic modules. In this paper, we present results of analysis for several kinds of silicon photovoltaic modules. The analysis was performed for failure modes observed in current-voltage characteristics or electroluminescence images, and microscopic observation of degradation induced by the testing. The results shows the developed testing induces the same failure modes as same as those induced by thermal cycling testing defined for silicon photovoltaic modules in International Electrochemical Commission (IEC) qualification. This indicates that the developed testing is capable of accelerating the thermal cycling testing defined in the IEC qualification and is available for almost all silicon photovoltaic modules of conventional structure.

Background Lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) is the most common histologic subtype of lung cancer and has a high risk of distant metastasis at every disease stage. We aimed to characterize the genomic landscape of LUAD and identify mutation signatures associated with tumor progression. Methods and Findings We performed an integrative genomic analysis, incorporating whole exome sequencing (WES), determination of DNA copy number and DNA methylation, and transcriptome sequencing for 101 LUAD samples from the Environment And Genetics in Lung cancer Etiology (EAGLE) study. We detected driver genes by testing whether the nonsynonymous mutation rate was significantly higher than the background mutation rate and replicated our findings in public datasets with 724 samples. We performed subclonality analysis for mutations based on mutant allele data and copy number alteration data. We also tested the association between mutation signatures and clinical outcomes, including distant metastasis, survival, and tumor grade. We identified and replicated two novel candidate driver genes, POU class 4 homeobox 2 (POU4F2) (mutated in 9 [8.9%] samples) and ZKSCAN1 (mutated in 6 [5.9%] samples), and characterized their major deleterious mutations. ZKSCAN1 was part of a mutually exclusive gene set that included the RTK/RAS/RAF pathway genes BRAF, EGFR, KRAS, MET, and NF1, indicating an important driver role for this gene. Moreover, we observed strong associations between methylation in specific genomic regions and somatic mutation patterns. In the tumor evolution analysis, four driver genes had a significantly lower fraction of subclonal mutations (FSM), including TP53 (p = 0.007), KEAP1 (p = 0.012), STK11 (p = 0.0076), and EGFR (p = 0.0078), suggesting a tumor initiation role for these genes. Subclonal mutations were significantly enriched in APOBEC-related signatures (p < 2.5×10−50). The total number of somatic mutations (p = 0.0039) and the fraction of transitions (p = 5.5×10−4) were associated with increased risk of distant metastasis. Our study’s limitations include a small number of LUAD patients for subgroup analyses and a single-sample design for investigation of subclonality. Conclusions These data provide a genomic characterization of LUAD pathogenesis and progression. The distinct clonal and subclonal mutation signatures suggest possible diverse carcinogenesis pathways for endogenous and exogenous exposures, and may serve as a foundation for more effective treatments for this lethal disease. LUAD’s high heterogeneity emphasizes the need to further study this tumor type and to associate genomic findings with clinical outcomes., Maria Teresa Landi and colleagues report genomic tumor data for a cohort of patients with lung adenocarcinoma, focusing on implications for tumor initiation and distant metastasis., Author Summary Why Was This Study Done? Lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) is the most common histologic subtype of lung cancer and causes more than half a million deaths worldwide annually. Genomic studies of LUAD can shed light on tumor initiation and progression and identify potential targets for treatment. What Did the Researchers Do and Find? We performed an integrative genomic analysis, incorporating whole exome sequencing (WES), DNA copy number and DNA methylation determination, and transcriptome sequencing in 101 LUAD samples. We replicated major findings using public genomic resources and combined all existing genomic data for an overall analysis of 825 LUAD samples. We identified two novel driver genes and characterized the driver events and types of mutations that have a stronger role in tumor initiation versus tumor progression. We found strong associations between DNA methylation and somatic mutation patterns. The total number of somatic mutations and the fraction of C→T transitions were associated with increased risk of distant metastasis. What Do These Findings Mean? We characterized LUAD genomic architecture and linked major genomic features with clinical outcomes. Tobacco smoking-related mutations appear to have a stronger role in tumor initiation, while mutations associated with endogenous processes are more prominent at a later stage of tumor development and are associated with tumor progression. Our findings highlight the complexity and heterogeneity of LUAD. In addition to new driver genes, we found some tumors with no exonic mutations in known lung cancer driver genes. This suggests that there are further drivers (genetic or epigenetic) to be identified, and larger numbers of samples need to be studied to fully capture LUAD genomic characteristics.

First measurements of cross sections for isolated prompt photon production in deep inelastic ep scattering have been made using the ZEUS detector at the HERA electron-proton collider using an integrated luminosity of 121 pb^-1. A signal for isolated photons in the transverse energy and rapidity ranges 5 < E_T^gamma < 10 GeV and -0.7 < eta^gamma < 0.9 was observed for virtualities of the exchanged photon of Q^2 > 35 GeV^2. Cross sections are presented for inclusive prompt photons and for those accompanied by a single jet in the range E_T^jet \geq 6 GeV and -1.5 \leq eta^jet < 1.8. Calculations at order alpha^3alpha_s describe the data reasonably well., 16 pages, 5 figures

- Abstract
Background: Daprodustat (GSK1278863) is an oral hypoxia-inducible factor prolyl hydroxylase inhibitor being developed for treatment of anemia associated with chronic kidney disease (CKD). The effect of daprodustat in Japanese CKD patients with anemia has not been previously investigated. Methods: We evaluated the relationship between daprodustat dose and hemoglobin response in Japanese patients on hemodialysis (HD) with anemia in a 4-week, phase II, double-blind, placebo-controlled study. After interrupting their erythropoiesis-stimulating agent for between 2 and 8 weeks, subjects with hemoglobin 8.5-10.5 g/dL were randomized to placebo or daprodustat 4, 6, 8, or 10 mg orally once daily. Hemoglobin, erythropoietin (EPO), and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) levels during therapy were evaluated. Results: Eighty-six of 97 randomized subjects completed the study. Mean baseline hemoglobin ranged from 9.68 to 9.92 g/dL across groups. After 4-week administration, mean hemoglobin changes were -0.28, -0.01, 0.54, and 0.97 g/dL in the 4, 6, 8, and 10 mg groups, respectively, as compared to -1.41 g/dL for placebo. Dose-dependent increase in plasma EPO concentration were observed up to 8 mg, with the 10 mg dose responses being similar to 8 mg. Plasma VEGF concentrations were minimally changed, even though 5 subjects treated with 6-10 mg reached EPO >500 mIU/mL. Conclusion: Daprodustat 4-10 mg once-daily produced dose-dependent increase in hemoglobin relative to placebo in Japanese HD subjects. The doses evaluated in the study have moderately increased endogenous EPO without changes in circulating VEGF levels.

The ZEUS detector has been used to study dissociation of virtual photons in events with a leading proton, γp → Xp, in ep collisions at HERA. The data cover photon virtualities in two ranges, 0.03 1.5 GeV, where MX is the mass of the hadronic final state, X. Events were required to have a leading proton, detected in the ZEUS leading proton spectrometer, carrying at least 90% of the incoming proton energy. The cross section is presented as a function of t, the squared four-momentum transfer at the proton vertex, Φ, the azimuthal angle between the positron scattering plane and the proton scattering plane, and Q. The data are presented in terms of the diffractive structure function, F D(3) 2 . A next-to-leading-order QCD fit to the higher-Q data set and to previously published diffractive charm production data is presented. The ZEUS Collaboration S. Chekanov, M. Derrick, J.H. Loizides, S. Cross sections for e^+p charged current deep inelastic scattering at a centre-of-mass energy of 318 GeV have been determined with an integrated luminosity of 60.9pb^-1 collected with the ZEUS detector at HERA. The differential cross sections dsigma/dQ^2, dsigma/dx and dsigma/dy for Q^2>200 GeV^2 are presented. In addition, d^2sigma/dxdQ^2 has been measured in the kinematic range 280 GeV^2 < Q^2 < 17000 GeV^2 and 0.008 < x < 0.42. The predictions of the Standard Model agree well with the measured cross sections. The mass of the W boson propagator is determined to be M_W=78.9 +/- 2.0 (stat.) +/- 1.8 (syst.) +2.0 -1.8 (PDF) GeV from a fit to dsigma/dQ^2. The chiral structure of the Standard Model is also investigated in terms of the (1-y)^2 dependence of the the double-differential cross section. The structure-function F_2^CC has been extracted by combining the measurements presented here with previous ZEUS results from e^-p scattering, extending the measurement obtained in a neutrino-nucleus scattering experiment to a significantly higher Q^2 region., 35 pages, 8 figures (eps), accepted by European Phys. Inclusive event-shape variables have been measured in the current region of the Breit frame for neutral current deep inelastic ep scattering using an integrated luminosity of 45.0 pb^-1 collected with the ZEUS detector at HERA. The variables studied included thrust, jet broadening and invariant jet mass. The kinematic range covered was 10 < Q^2 < 20,480 GeV^2 and 6.10^-4 < x < 0.6, where Q^2 is the virtuality of the exchanged boson and x is the Bjorken variable. The Q dependence of the shape variables has been used in conjunction with NLO perturbative calculations and the Dokshitzer-Webber non-perturbative corrections (`power corrections') to investigate the validity of this approach., 7+25 pages, 6 figures

OPERATIONS, PERFORMANCE AND RELIABILITY OF PHOTOVOLTAICS (FROM CELLS TO SYSTEMS) ,PV Modules - Abstract
31st European Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference and Exhibition; 2515-2520, A new acceleration testing method “Highly Accelerated Thermal Cycling (HATC) test” has been developed in order to evaluate the long-term reliability of PV modules with shorter test period than normal thermal cycling test of IEC61215. For further degradation acceleration, the temperature difference (T) dependence of the degradation for thermal cycling test was examined and verified. The T conditions were 165°C (HATC), 125°C (IEC TC) and 90°C respectively. The results show that the degradation was accelerated under larger T condition. The dominant degradation mode caused by both HATC and IEC TC was same, which is the increase in series resistance due to solder bonds degradation of interconnector. The Eyring model was employed to estimate the acceleration factor () of HATC (T=165°C) compared to normal IEC TC (T=125°C) showing approximately a difference of 2.3 times, which means the degradation of HATC 200 cycles is equivalent to the normal IEC TC 460 cycles. The experimental results are reported mainly focusing on the change of photo/dark IV using IV analysis technique.

OPERATIONS, PERFORMANCE AND RELIABILITY OF PHOTOVOLTAICS (FROM CELLS TO SYSTEMS) ,PV Modules - Abstract
31st European Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference and Exhibition; 1911-1914, We have developed a highly accelerated thermal cycling (HATC) test. As previously reported, we have improved a thermal cycling (TC) test to shorten testing time by increasing the number of TC per unit time in addition to light irradiation. In this study, we investigated further enhancement of stress to reduce testing time for the TC test. From an analysis by using the Eyring model, we found that the temperature difference, T, largely affects the acceleration of TC testing. An effect of T was confirmed by performing an HATC test with T of 165oC. The result showed that the HATC test degraded a PV module nearly five times faster than by the simple repetition of a TC test in accordance with International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) qualifications. No acceleration effect was confirmed through examination of light irradiation stress.

Recent evidence from several relatively small nested case-control studies in prospective cohorts shows an association between longer telomere length measured phenotypically in peripheral white blood cell (WBC) DNA and increased lung cancer risk. We sought to further explore this relationship by examining a panel of seven telomere-length associated genetic variants in a large study of 5,457 never-smoking female Asian lung cancer cases and 4,493 never-smoking female Asian controls using data from a previously reported genome-wide association study. Using a group of 1,536 individuals with phenotypically measured telomere length in WBCs in the prospective Shanghai Women's Health study, we demonstrated the utility of a genetic risk score (GRS) of seven telomere-length associated variants to predict telomere length in an Asian population. We then found that GRSs used as instrumental variables to predict longer telomere length were associated with increased lung cancer risk (OR = 1.51 (95% CI = 1.34-1.69) for upper vs. lower quartile of the weighted GRS, p value = 4.54 × 10(-14) ) even after removing rs2736100 (p value = 4.81 × 10(-3) ), a SNP in the TERT locus robustly associated with lung cancer risk in prior association studies. Stratified analyses suggested the effect of the telomere-associated GRS is strongest among younger individuals. We found no difference in GRS effect between adenocarcinoma and squamous cell subtypes. Our results indicate that a genetic background that favors longer telomere length may increase lung cancer risk, which is consistent with earlier prospective studies relating longer telomere length with increased lung cancer risk.

Dijet production has been studied in neutral current deep inelastic e+p scattering for 470 < Q**2 < 20000 GeV**2 with the ZEUS detector at HERA using an integrated luminosity of 38.4 pb**{-1}. Dijet differential cross sections are presented in a kinematic region where both theoretical and experimental uncertainties are small. Next-to-leading-order (NLO) QCD calculations describe the measured differential cross sections well. A QCD analysis of the measured dijet fraction as a function of Q**2 allows both a precise determination of alpha_s(M_Z) and a test of the energy-scale dependence of the strong coupling constant. A detailed analysis provides an improved estimate of the uncertainties of the NLO QCD cross sections arising from the parton distribution functions of the proton. The value of alpha_s(M_Z), as determined from the QCD fit, is alpha_s(M_Z) = 0.1166 +- 0.0019 (stat.) {+ 0.0024}_{-0.0033} (exp.)} {+ 0.0057}_{- 0.0044} (th.)., 32 pages including 5 figures and 23 tables. - Abstract
The introduction of new therapies against particular genetic mutations in non-small-cell lung cancer is a promising avenue for improving patient survival, but the target population is small. There is a need to discover new potential actionable genetic lesions, to which end, non-conventional cancer pathways, such as RNA editing, are worth exploring. Herein we show that the adenosine-toinosine editing enzyme ADAR1 undergoes gene amplification in non-small cancer cell lines and primary tumors in association with higher levels of the corresponding mRNA and protein. From a growth and invasion standpoint, the depletion of ADAR1 expression in amplified cells reduces their tumorigenic potential in cell culture and mouse models, whereas its overexpression has the opposite effects. From a functional perspective, ADAR1 overexpression enhances the editing frequencies of target transcripts such as NEIL1 and miR-381. In the clinical setting, patients with early-stage lung cancer, but harboring ADAR1 gene amplification, have poor outcomes. Overall, our results indicate a role for ADAR1 as a lung cancer oncogene undergoing gene amplification-associated activation that affects downstream RNA editing patterns and patient prognosis.

A search for QCD-instanton-induced events in deep inelastic ep scattering has been performed with the ZEUS detector at the HERA collider, using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 38 pb^{-1}. A kinematic range defined by cuts on the photon virtuality, Q^2 > 120 GeV^2, and on the Bjorken scaling variable, x > 10^{-3}, has been investigated. The QCD-instanton induced events were modelled by the Monte Carlo generator QCDINS. A background-independent, conservative 95% confidence level upper limit for the instanton cross section of 26 pb is obtained, to be compared with the theoretically expected value of 8.9 pb., 27 pages, 1 table, 6 figures

PV System Reliability and Availability ,PV SYSTEMS - Abstract
28th European Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference and Exhibition; 3709-3713, Aiming to reduce the implementation and maintenance costs of a large-scale photovoltaic (PV) power plant, we developed a sensor-less fault-diagnosis architecture. The key feature of this technique is that it calculates the number of faulty modules in a PV array by using only measured DC voltage and current of a PV inverter. In this work, we experimentally demonstrated that the developed fault-diagnosis architecture can determine the number of fault modules in a large-scale PV power plant without extra sensors.

COMPONENTS FOR PV SYSTEMS ,Balance of System Components - Abstract
28th European Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference and Exhibition; 3424-3427, We developed a new method of maximum power point tracking, which can calculate new operation voltage corresponding to the maximum power point after an abrupt change in solar irradiance. The method is deduced based on a photovoltaic model with appropriate approximation. The new operation voltage is calculated only using a ratio of current before and after an abrupt change in solar irradiance without any additional hardware. We confirmed that the method can get to the maximum power point from several to fifteen times faster than a conventional hillclimbing method.

The cross sections for inelastic photoproduction of J/ψ and ψ′ mesons have been measured in ep collisions with the ZEUS detector at HERA, using an integrated luminosity of 468 pb−1 collected in the period 1996–2007. The ψ′ to J/ψ cross section ratio was measured in the range 0.55 0.9 and 60 190 GeV as a function of W, z and p T . Here W denotes the photon-proton centre-of-mass energy, z is the fraction of the incident photon energy carried by the meson and p T is the transverse momentum of the meson with respect to the beam axis. The J/ψ cross sections were measured for 0.1 0.9, 60 240 GeV and p T > 1 GeV. Theoretical predictions within the non-relativistic QCD framework including NLO colour-singlet and colour-octet contributions were compared to the data, as were predictions based on the k T -factorisation approach.
