As the 2015 revised national curriculum is being implementing in Korea, a teacher's assessment competency has become a point of focus for the potential enhancement of students' self-directed learning. Relevantly, a teacher's competency in student assessment is correlated to his/her individual feedback practices. Although students' self-directed learning affects academic performance and may vary based on their teachers' assessment competency, few studies have investigated the effect of a teacher's assessment competency, specially feedback practices, on student outcomes. Therefore, this study aims to empirically investigate the differential effect of a teacher's assessment competency, particularly focusing on feedback practices (i.e., formative assessment feedback, homework feedback), on Korean students' individual learning times and math achievements. For the analysis, a 3-level hierarchical linear modeling (HLM) is employed using data of middle school students (N = 2942) and math teachers (N = 426) in 207 middle schools of the Gyeonggi Education Panel Study (GEPS). The study revealed that a teacher's formative assessment feedback has a positive differential effect on math performance when controlling for student-, teacher-, and school-level covariates. In addition, the effect of individual learning time on math achievement was significantly dependent on teachers' homework feedback. The study provides newfound empirical evidence that teacher feedback plays a pivotal role in promoting a student's self-directed learning and academic achievement. Based on these findings, the implications of improving a teacher's assessment competency are discussed.

Arynes hold significance for the efficient fusion of (hetero) arenes with diverse substrates, advancing the construction of complex molecular frameworks. Employing multiple equivalents of arynes is particularly effective in the rapid formation of polycyclic cores found in optoelectronic materials and bioactive compounds. However, the inherent reactivity of arynes often leads to side reactions, yielding unanticipated products and underlining the importance of a detailed investigation into the use of multiple arynes to fine-tune their reactivity. This review centers on methodologies and syntheses in organic reactions involving multiple arynes, categorizing based on mechanisms like cycloadditions, σ-bond insertions, nucleophilic additions, and ene reactions, and discusses aryne polymerization. The categorization based on these mechanisms includes two primary approaches: the first entails multiple aryne engagement within a single step while the second approach involves using a single equivalent of aryne sequentially across multiple steps, with both requiring strict reactivity control to ensure precise aryne participation in each respective step. Additionally, the review provides an in-depth analysis of the selection of aryne precursors, organized chronologically and by activation strategy, offering a comprehensive background that supports the main theme of multiple aryne utilization. Solid-state batteries (SSBs) have been widely studied as next-generation lithium-ion batteries (LiBs) for many electronic devices due to their high energy density, stability, nonflammability, and chemical stability compared to LiBs which consist of liquid electrolytes. However, solid electrolytes exhibit poor electrochemical characteristics due to their interfacial properties, and the sintering process, which necessitates high temperatures, is an obstacle to the commercialization of SSBs. Hence, the aim of this study was to improve the interfacial properties of the lithium tantalum phosphate (LTPO) solid electrolyte by adding succinonitrile (SN) on the interface of the LTPO particle to enhance ionic conductivity without the sintering process. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), the Li symmetric cell test, and the galvanostatic cycle test were performed to verify the performance of the SN-containing LTPO composite electrolyte. The LTPO composite solid electrolyte exhibited a high ionic conductivity of 1.93 × 10−4 S/cm at room temperature (RT) compared to the conventional LTPO. Also, it showed good cycle stability, and low interfacial resistance with Li metal, ensuring electrochemical stability. On the basis of our experimental results, the performance of solid electrolytes could be improved by adding SN and lithium salt. In this experimental study, we explore the dynamics of the thermal boundary layer in liquid metal Rayleigh–Bénard convection, covering the parameter ranges of $0.026 \leq$ Prandtl numbers $(Pr) \leq 0.033$ and Rayleigh numbers ($Ra$) up to $2.9\times 10^9$. Our research focuses on characterising the thermal boundary layer near the top plate of a cylindrical convection cell with an aspect ratio of 0.5, distinguishing between two distinct regions: the shear-dominated region around the centre of the top plate and a location near the side wall where the boundary layer is expected to be affected by the impact or ejection of thermal plumes. The dependencies of the boundary layer thickness on $Ra$ at these positions reveal deviating scaling exponents with the difference diminishing as $Ra$ increases. We find stronger fluctuations in the boundary layer and increasing deviation from the Prandtl–Blasius–Pohlhausen profile with increasing $Ra$ , as well as in the measurements outside the centre region. Background: Treatment with potassium‐competitive acid blockers has shown acceptable efficacy in Helicobacter pylori eradication. In regions like Korea, where the clarithromycin resistance rate is high, alternative combinations like non‐bismuth quadruple therapies have shown favorable results. This study compared the outcomes of sequential eradication therapy with new potassium‐competitive acid blocker tegoprazan and conventional esomeprazole‐containing sequential therapy. Materials and Methods: Patients with Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection were consecutively recruited. Patients were allocated to either an esomeprazole‐containing sequential or a tegoprazan‐containing sequential therapy group. Sequential therapy comprised esomeprazole (40 mg) or tegoprazan (50 mg) plus amoxicillin (1000 mg) twice daily for the initial 5 days, followed by esomeprazole (40 mg) or tegoprazan (50 mg) with clarithromycin (500 mg) and metronidazole (500 mg) twice daily for the remaining 5 days. Eradication rate, compliance, and adverse events were recorded. Results: A total of 406 patients with H. pylori infection were enrolled in the trial and analyzed per protocol. Eradication rate by intention‐to‐treat and per‐protocol was 83.8% (95% confidence interval [CI]: 78.7–88.9) for esomeprazole‐containing sequential therapy, and 87.1% (95% CI: 82.5–91.8) for tegoprazan‐containing sequential therapy, with no statistical significance (p = 0.399). Additionally, there was no statistically significant difference in treatment compliance between the two groups. Nausea was more prevalent (23.3%, 27/202) with sequential tegoprazans than with esomeprazole‐containing sequential therapy (14.2%, 29/204; p = 0.022). Conclusion: Tegoprazan‐containing 10‐day sequential eradication treatment demonstrated similar eradication efficacy compared to esomeprazole‐containing treatment, even in regions with high antimicrobial resistance, such as Korea. International students experience significant difficulties as they adjust to the dominant culture in the United States. However, there is a substantial gap between the reported academic and sociological distress these students experience and their help-seeking behaviors. This article reviews international students' distinctive challenges in seeking professional help and proposes guidelines to effectively support these students by enhancing college counselors' multicultural counseling competence.

When introducing new words in a second language (L2), presenting vocabulary with concurrent gestures might facilitate learners' recollection of new words. Previous research has suggested that this gestural advantage might hold only for gestures that overlap with the semantics of the words. Dual coding theory predicts that learners should learn input better when multiple sensory routes act as aids to retrieval. Our research replicated and extended previous studies examining the limits of gestures in learning L2 vocabulary. A within-participant design directly compared the effects of pairing low idiosyncratic gestures (gestures traditionally iconic with word meanings) versus high idiosyncratic gestures (gestures that likely need to be idiosyncratically paired with word meanings) with L2 vocabulary presentation, relative to using no gestures. Results supported dual coding theory: All gestures were helpful if they were not confusable with other to-be-learned words and if the number of words presented was limited.

Single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) has emerged as a versatile tool in biology, enabling comprehensive genomic-level characterization of individual cells. Currently, most scRNA-seq methods generate barcoded cDNAs by capturing the polyA tails of mRNAs, which exclude many non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs), especially those transcribed by RNA polymerase III (Pol III). Although previously thought to be expressed constitutively, Pol III-transcribed ncRNAs are expressed variably in healthy and disease states and play important roles therein, necessitating their profiling at the single-cell level. In this study, we developed a measurement protocol for nc886 as a model case and initial step for scRNA-seq for Pol III-transcribed ncRNAs. Specifically, we spiked in an oligo-tagged nc886-specific primer during the polyA tail capture process for the 5'scRNA-seq. We then produced sequencing libraries for standard 5' gene expression and oligo-tagged nc886 separately, to accommodate different cDNA sizes and ensure undisturbed transcriptome analysis. We applied this protocol in three cell lines that express high, low, and zero levels of nc886. Our results show that the identification of oligo tags exhibited limited target specificity, and sequencing reads of nc886 enabled the correction of non-specific priming. These findings suggest that gene-specific primers (GSPs) can be employed to capture RNAs lacking a polyA tail, with subsequent sequence verification ensuring accurate gene expression counting. Moreover, we embarked on an analysis of differentially expressed genes in cell line sub-clusters with differential nc886 expression, demonstrating variations in gene expression phenotypes. The purpose of the current study is to validate the Counseling Competencies Scale Revised (CCS-R). We used convenience sampling to recruit counselors and counselors-in-training (N = 156). Specifically, we had 130 female (83.3%) and 26 male (16.7%) participants, and the mean age was 33.16 (SD = 11.18), ranging from 20 to 62 years old. We used correlational analyses, ANOVA, and confirmatory factor analysis to understand the characteristics of the sample and assess the psychometrics of the CCS-R-K. Results showed the validity and reliability of the data, including the acceptable model fits and high alpha reliability coefficient values. We also found that the scores of the CCS-R-K were positively related to participants' years of clinical experience and educational levels. The CCS-R-K can be used as a measurement tool to objectively and comprehensively evaluate Korean counselors' competency in counselor education, contributing to cultivating counselors with the professional competencies required by our society.
