Abstract

Abstract: The crystalline state of terbium-containing yttria is one of the important candidates for uses to ultraviolet- and electron-excited green phosphors. To increase the intensity of green emission, structural design of the polycrystalline Y2O3:Tb was carried out using a chemical-vapor-deposition technique operated under atmospheric pressure. The green luminescence intensity was strongly dependent upon the concentration of Tb. The intensity of the photoluminescence at 542nm obtained from 〈100〉 oriented Y2O3:Tb whiskers was higher than that obtained from the uniform Y2O3:Tb polycrystalline film with random orientation. Abstract

Abstract: Y2O3:Eu red phosphor powder was synthesized with powders of metal–ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) complexes as a starting material. The compositional analysis of each metal–EDTA complexes particle and Y2O3:Eu particle was performed using a particle analyzer. In this study, first, the particles of a mixture of Y– and Eu–EDTA complexes were obtained by a spray drying method from solution consisting of Y– and Eu–EDTA·NH4. Then, the metal–EDTA complex powder was fired in obtaining the Y2O3:Eu red phosphor. The metal composition of each particle was scattered for the powder of the metal–EDTA mixture, while it became narrow for the Y2O3:Eu powder. The intensity of cathodoluminescence obtained from the Y2O3:Eu powder increased with increasing the fired temperature. In addition, the maximum intensity was obtained from the sample with x=0.12 for Y2−x O3:Eu x . [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

118. Structure modification of hydrogenated carbon nitride films by high-energy HE 2+ Irradiation.

Abstract

It is well known that amorphous carbon and related films consist of nano-sized carbon clusters. With the incorporation of hydrogen into these films, the hydrogen termination limits the cluster size and decreases the bond strength among clusters. In this study, dehydrogenation from amorphous hydrogenated carbon nitride films was accomplished using 3.75 MeV-He 2+ irradiation. The hydrogen atoms forming methyl and ethylene groups were mainly removed from the film during the irradiation procedure. With the progress of dehydrogenation from methyl and ethylene groups, the degree of order of the atomic configuration became large, resulting in an increase of the cluster size. The mechanical properties of amorphous films were improved due to cluster growth. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]

119. New Violet Phosphor Sr7Al12O25:Eu2+Synthesized from Sr--Al--O:Eu Powder Mounted on Polycrystalline Alumina

Abstract

A new violet phosphor was synthesized by sintering under the reduction condition from the Sr--Al--O:Eu powder oxidized from an ethylenediaminetetraacetic (EDTA) complex on a polycrystalline alumina plate. The crystalline phase of violet phosphor was determined to be Sr7Al12O25by the change in the crystallinity of the product with a change in the composition of the raw material. The emission wavelength of the phosphor was 410 nm for Sr7Al12O25:Eu2+. For the composition of $\text{Sr}:\text{Al}:\text{Eu}= 6.86:8:0.14$ in the EDTA complex with sintering at 1400 \circC, Sr7Al12O25:Eu2+was obtained only in the crystalline phase of Sr7Al12O25and exhibited the highest emission intensity of 410 nm in our experiment. The sintering temperature at sintering and composition of metals in the EDTA complex affected the emission wavelength change from 410 to 460 nm because of change in crystallinity. These changes indicate that the emission color in the range from violet to green is controlled by composition change or sintering temperature.

120. Hardness and Structure of a-CNxFilms Synthesized by Chemical Vapor Deposition

Abstract

Mechanically hard a-CNxfilms were synthesized using a combination of ion bombardment and the chemical vapor deposition process using the dissociative excitation reaction of BrCN with Ar metastable atoms. Nanoindentation tests disclosed that the indentation hardness, Young's modulus and elastic recovery increased with increasing ion-accelerating voltage. Moreover, the degree of flow among clusters decreased in the ion-bombarded sample. The D (disordered)-band absorption on an infrared absorption spectrum was replaced by a C-N absorption assigned to the tertiary aromatic amine. These results suggest that the internal and external structures of the carbon nitride cluster change from the two-dimensional order to the three-dimensional order of C-N. The structure of hard a-CNxis clearly distinguishable from nitrogen-containing diamond-like carbon.
