A bacterial strain, designated S8-55T, was isolated from moraine samples collected from the north slope of Mount Everest at an altitude of 5 500 m above sea level. The purpose of this study was to describe a novel species and its characteristics, through genome sequencing and analysis of the relationship between the members of the genus Paracoccus , and explore the antioxidant capacity of strain S8-55T. The polyphasic study confirmed the affiliation of strain S8-55T with the genus Paracoccus . Strain S8-55T was aerobic, Gram-negative and oxidase- and catalase positive. Cells were orange-pigmented, ellipsoid and had no spore formation, no flagella and no motility. Strain S8-55T grow at 10–37 °C, pH 7–11 and without NaCl. Ubiquinone 10 was its predominant respiratory menaquinone. The polar lipids of strain S8-55T were diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylcholine, an unidentified phospholipid, an unidentified aminolipid and three unidentified lipids. Its major fatty acids were summed feature 8 (C18 : 1 ω7c and/or C18 : 1 ω6c). The G+C content was 64.3 mol%. The phylogenetic analysis based on the 16S rRNA sequence showed that strain S8-55T was closely related to Paracoccus angustae E6T (97.9 %), Paracoccus aerius 011410T (97.9 %) and Paracoccus hibisci THG-T2.8T (97.8 %). The average nucleotide identity values among strain S8-55T and P. angustae CCTCC AB 2015056T, P. aerius KCTC 42845T and P. hibisci CCTCC AB 2016181T were 84.1, 84.5 and 76.3 %, respectively. The genome of strain S8-55T contained antioxidant genes such as oxyR, recD, katE, recD and rpoH. Based on its morphological, physiological and chemical taxonomic characteristics, strain S8-55T (=JCM 35 227T=GDMCC 1.3026T) should be classified as a novel species of the genus Paracoccus with the proposed name Paracoccus everestensis sp. nov.

Damage to adobe constructions might occur due to a long wall and a lack of effective restraint in the middle of the wall, causing it to collapse under an earthquake. Aiming at these problems, a technology for improving the seismic performance of a modified adobe-brick-masonry composite wall with a wooden-construction center column is proposed. It uses modified mud, a wooden center column, steel-wire mesh, and nylon ropes to reinforce the wall. On this basis, four specimens of composite wall and one specimen of modified adobe wall were subjected to proposed quasistatic, cyclic in-plane loading tests to study their failure modes and seismic performance indicators. The results show that the failure modes of all walls were shear failure. The difference is that the modified adobe wall had horizontal cracks in the middle, whereas the composite walls were largely intact. Moreover, the composite walls relied on the modified mud to improve the seismic bearing capacity of each wall. They relied on the center column and the tie materials to form a second line of defense that would increase the wall ductility and collapse residual area. As a result, the phenomenon that caused wall damage and stiffness degradation was lessened.

The use of ytterbium(II) reagent as both nucleophilic reagent and single-electron transfer reagent in the reaction of isatin derivatives with ytterbium(II) reagent is reported. From a synthetic point of view, a general, efficient, and experimentally simple one-pot method for the preparation of 3-substituted 2-oxindoles was developed.

Toxic metals and metalloids (TMMs) in soil can be accumulated in crops, which poses potential risks to human health. In this paper, 55 topsoil and 23 crop samples, collected in Qilihe, China, were selected to study the contamination, risk, and plant accumulation of TMMs in soil-crop system. TMM concentrations in soil samples were all below the permissible limits, but Hg and Cd exhibited the potential ecological risk due to their slight accumulation in soil. There was slight Hg pollution in 2 samples of Lanzhou lily (Lilium davidii), and 1 sample of radish (Raphanus sativus), Chinese cabbage (Brassica pekinensis), and welsh onions (Allium fistulosum) due to Hg's strong bio-accumulation, but there was no risk to human health. The TMM accumulation in leaf crops was large, followed in tuber and seed crops. Available potassium, cation exchange capacity, soil organic matter, and available phosphate were the main factors associated with TMM accumulation in crops among the selected soil properties. This study shows the current contamination situation and the predominant influencing factors associated with the accumulation of TMMs in 24 crops, which provides the emphasis and direction of relative policies in land use and crop plantation.

Many rivers across the globe are regulated by dams, resulting in a strong alteration of the plant community composition of the drawdown zone. But, how these changes happen along the drawdown zone is less understood. In this study, a multivariate analysis was used to explore plant composition and similarity along the drawdown zone of the Three Gorges Dam Reservoir (TGDR), China. The dominant plant species, species richness, indicator species, and growth form were compared among the upstream, midstream, and downstream of the TGDR. Moreover, variation partitioning was used to determine the relative importance of environmental factors and spatial factors. Results showed that only a few species contributed the most to the community composition of the study area, and there was an extreme similarity in the plant community composition across the three different river segments. Furthermore, the results of the linear regression model demonstrated a steady declining trend in species richness along the drawdown zone, with the lowest species richness in the downstream segment. In addition, variation partitioning revealed 11% and 8% of the species composition change under environmental and spatial factors, respectively. Our results suggested that the dam impoundment led to the convergence of species composition along the drawdown zone of the TGDR, and environmental filtering and dispersal limitation played an imperative role in shaping species composition. The study highlighted the importance of restoration activities in overcoming the barriers of seed dispersal and seedling establishment in the degraded drawdown zone ecosystem of the TGDR.

A reasonable assessment of the value of ecosystem services is an effective measure to maintain the normal operation of the ecosystem and adjust the balance between economic development and the ecological environment. With the help of the related concepts of ecosystem services, this paper establishes an evaluation framework system and adopts the widely used and comprehensive evaluation method of equivalent factors, which is a rapid accounting tool used for the evaluation of ecosystem services. The value of agricultural ecosystem services was estimated from 2008 to 2017 in a typical arid-semiarid region, and nine ecosystem service functions were analyzed. Our research showed that from 2008 to 2017 the value of agricultural ecological services in Gansu Province increased annually, and the annual growth rate in 2012 was the highest (15%). The results showed that the selection of appropriate methods could quickly and effectively evaluate the value of agricultural ecosystem services. In-depth research on the function and value of agroecological services could better promote the sustainable development of agroecosystems and maintain the balance and integrity of ecological service functions. Evaluation of the balance and integrity of agricultural ecosystem ecological service functions in arid semi-arid regions will provide recommendations for land use and sustainable development and ecological environment protection in these regions. Highlights • Agricultural ecosystem services have changed in an arid and semiarid region of China in recent decades. • We reflect the results of China's ecological progress. • This study provides advice on agricultural development of other developing countries.

Seedlessness is one of the most important breeding goals for table grapes; thus, understanding the molecular genetic regulation of seed development and abortion is critical for the development of seedless cultivars. In the present study, we characterized VvMADS39, a class E MADS-box gene of grapevine (Vitis vinifera) orthologous to Arabidopsis SEP2. Heterologous overexpression of VvMADS39 in tomato reduced the fruit and seed size and seed number. Targeted mutagenesis of the homologous SlMADS39 in tomato induced various floral and fruit defects. It could reasonable to suppose that active VvMADS39 expression in "Thompson Seedless" may restrict cellular expansion, resulting in the development of smaller fruits and seeds, VvMADS39 may play a role in the regulation of ovule development in grapevine and contributes to seedless fruit formation. In contrast, VvMADS39 suppression in "Red Globe" was associated with enhanced histone H3 lysine 27 trimethylation in the promoter region of VvMADS39, allowing normal ovule and fruit development; Meanwhile, VvMADS39 interacts with VvAGAMOUS, and the activity of the VvMADS39-VvAGAMOUS dimer to induce integument development requires the activation and maintenance of VvINO expression. The synergistic cooperation between VvMADS39 and related proteins plays an important role in maintaining floral meristem characteristics, and fruit and ovule development.

Summary Triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) are able to convert low-frequency biomechanical motions into characteristically high-voltage and low-current electrical signals via a coupling of contact electrification and electrostatic induction. Resulting from a unique working principle, TENGs hold a collection of compelling features, including light weight, structural simplicity, cost-effectiveness, biocompatibility, and a wide range of soft materials choices. Electrical signals generated from human body motions via TENGs could be used as sustainable power sources, active biomonitors, and electrical stimulation therapeutics for bioengineering. Here we comprehensively reviewed the advancements in using TENGs for on-body energy, sensing, and therapeutic applications to build up a body area network (BAN) for personalized health care. We concluded our review with a discussion of the challenges and problems of leveraging triboelectric nanogenerators for bioengineering.

Unilateral absence of a pulmonary artery (UAPA) is a rare congenital anomaly. The occurrence of lung cancer in association with UAPA is even rarer, and clinical experience is very limited. This report aims to describe a case of unilateral absence of the right pulmonary artery that was associated with primary carcinoma of the contralateral lung. Both ipsilateral and contralateral lung cancer operations in patients with UAPA are extremely rare, with limited clinical experience. This article provides insights into the operative tolerability and outcomes after lung surgery in patients with UAPA, with an analysis of the operation strategy based on digital preoperative planning and surgical simulation with three-dimensional (3D) visualization, which may enable lung cancer surgery to be performed safely.

Elsinoë ampelina is an ascomycetous fungus that causes grape anthracnose, a potentially devastating disease worldwide. In this study, a dual RNA-seq analysis was used to simultaneously monitor the fungal genes related to pathogenesis and grape genes related to defense during the interaction at 2, 3, 4, and 5 days postinoculation. Consistent with their potential roles in pathogenicity, genes for carbohydrate-active enzymes, secondary metabolite synthesis, pathogen-host interaction, and those encoding secreted proteins are upregulated during infection. Based on Agrobacterium tumefaciens–mediated transient assays in Nicotiana benthamiana, we further showed that eight and nine candidate effectors, respectively, suppressed BAX- and INF1-mediated programmed cell death. The host response was characterized by the induction of multiple defense systems against E. ampelina, including synthesis of phenylpropanoids, stilbenes, and terpenoid biosynthesis, cell-wall modifications, regulation by phytohormones, and expression of defense-related genes. Together, these findings offer new insights into molecular mechanisms underlying the grape–E. ampelina interaction. [Formula: see text] Copyright © 2021 The Author(s). The structural properties such as high specific surface area, good electrical conductivity, rich-defects of the catalyst surface guarantee outstanding catalytic performance and durability of oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) electrocatalysts. It is still a challenging task to construct ORR catalysts with excellent performance. Herein, we have reported column-like MoS2/rGO with defect-rich ultrathin nanosheets prepared by a convenient solvothermal method. The structure and composition of MoS2/rGO are systematically investigated. MoS2/rGO shows a remarkable electrocatalytic performance, which is characterized by an outstanding onset potential of 0.97 V, a half-wave potential of 0.83 V, noticeable methanol tolerance, and durability of 93.7% current retention, superior to commercial Pt/C. The ORR process occurring on MoS2/rGO is a typical four electron pathway. Therefore, this study achieves the design of a low-cost, highly efficient and stable nonprecious metal ORR electrocatalyst in alkaline media.

Ovarian cancer is the first leading cause of death in gynecological cancers. The continuous survival and metastasis of cancer cells are the main causes of death and poor prognosis in patients with ovarian cancer. Berberine is an effective component extracted from the rhizomes of coptis chinensis and phellodendron chinensis. In our study, we aim to explore the molecular mechanism underlying the regulation of proliferation, migration and invasion by berberine in ovarian cancer cells. CCK8 assay was used for detection of proliferative capacity of SKOV3 and 3AO cells. Wound healing assay was used to estimate cell migration and transwell assay was used to assess cell invasion. The mRNA expression of miR-145 and MMP16 were examined by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). The protein level of MMP16 was detected by western blot analysis. In addition, luciferase reporter assays were used to demonstrate MMP16 was a target of miR-145. The results demonstrated berberine inhibited proliferation, migration and invasion, promoted miR-145 expression, and decreased MMP16 expression in SKOV3 and 3AO cells. MMP16 was a target of miR-145. Moreover, downregulation of MMP16 contributed to the inhibition of proliferation, migration and invasion by berberine. Together, our results revealed that berberine inhibited proliferation, migration and invasion through miR-145/MMP16 in SKOV3 and 3AO cells, highlighting the potentiality of berberine to be used as a therapeutic agent for ovarian cancer.

The emerging moisture-driven energy generation (MEG) technology opens up new possibilities for humidity-responsive materials, devices, and interdisciplinary opportunities in fields like information security. However, such potential remains untapped. Here, an original MEG structure with a hygroionic energy-conversion route by selective coating of ionic hygroscopic hydrogels on a carbon black surface is reported. The hygroionic route features a process in which the scavenged energy is stored in the electrical double layers formed at the interfaces between the ionic hydrogel and the carbon nanoparticles. The resultant electrical field developed across the hydrogel-coated wet carbon and the rest of the dry carbon area is thus durably lasted. Based on this unique structure, hygroelectronic information interfaces (HEII) for humidity-regulated information encryption and display are put forward by devising hydrogel patterns on a carbon platform. Further by tuning the hygroscopicity of the ionic hydrogels and incorporating encoding methods (e.g., Morse code), it is demonstrated that the HEII platform is programmable to carry different information in certain humidity ranges. Unlike those conventional anti-counterfeiting methods that optically reveal the hidden information once the required stimulus is provided, the new HEII serves as a hierarchical solution for high-security encryption and display.

Seromucinous carcinoma of the ovary was a newly defined category in the revised 2014 World Health Organization Classification of Tumors of Female Reproductive Organs. It was defined as a carcinoma composed of predominantly of serous and endocervical-type mucinous epithelium. Foci containing clear cells, and areas of endometrioid and squamous differentiation are not uncommon. It is a rare entity with morphologic and immunophenotypic features overlapping other types of ovarian carcinoma. There are different opinions as to whether it is a distinct entity or a histologic variant of well-established entities. Subsequent, to the writing of this manuscript the WHO 2020 reclassified this tumor as a type of endometrioid carcinoma. Here we present a case of seromucinous carcinoma of bilateral ovaries that had variable differentiation and morphology at different sites. Tumor in the fallopian tubes, ovarian surfaces, omentum, and peritoneal surfaces displayed predominant features of low-grade serous carcinoma, while the tumor in the ovaries had predominant mucinous carcinoma morphology with a confluent/expansile growth pattern. The mucosal involvement of the fallopian tubes morphologically mimicked serous tubal intraepithelial carcinoma.

As a front runner to substitute for Pt as oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) catalysts, the N species in N-doped carbon materials have an important effect on their ORR activity. Herein, we report a nitrogen-doped graphene sheets (NrGO) rich in graphitic-N prepared through a thermal pyrolysis process of a mixture of polyaniline and graphene oxide. The electrochemical result of this novel graphitic N-rich NrGO exhibits excellent catalytic performance for oxygen reduction reaction with onset potential of 0.99 V and half-wave potential of 0.84 V. The transferred electron number of the oxygen reduction reaction process is 3.92, indicating a typical 4 electron path. This new NrGO sheet catalyst also exhibits outstanding durability and methanol resistance superior to Pt/C. This paper can provide a basis for the research of the effect of nitrogen species on their ORR catalytic activity in N-doped carbon materials.

Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is the most aggressive form of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.We applied morphoproteomics to a tissue microarray of DLBCL cases to uncover commonalities in its biology with therapeutic implications. Morphoproteomic analysis of 9 individual cases of classic DLBCL included immunohistochemical probes to detect silent mating type information regulation 2 homolog 1 (SIRT1), enhancer of Zeste homolog 2 (EZH2) and C-X-C chemokine receptor 4 (CXCR4) and their cellular compartmentalization by bright field microscopy.We detected the expression of SIRT1 in the majority (50%) of the tumoral nuclei of 8 of 9 cases of DLBCL and of EZH2 expression in the majority (50%) of the tumoral nuclei in 9 of the 9 cases; and the expression of the tumoral stem cell marker, CXCR4 in the cytoplasmic and/or plasmalemmal compartment at50% of the tumor cells in all 9 cases of DLBCL. The morphoproteomic findings of SIRT1 and EZH2 expression in DLBCL, for the most part, parallel the morphoproteomic findings in B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia. This concordance has pharmacogenomic and therapeutic implications. Similarly, the fact that EZH2 can enhance the expression of tumoral stem cell marker, CXCR4 implies that there is a block in differentiation in DLBCL.By targeting the Sirt1, EZH2 and CXCR4 pathways using relatively non-toxic adjuvant therapeutic agents such as metformin, melatonin, curcumin, sulforaphane, vitamin D3 and plerixafor, we should be able to target the biology of DLBCL.

SWI/SNF-related, matrix-associated, actin-dependent regulator of chromatin, subfamily A, member 4 (SMARCA4/BRG1)-deficient undifferentiated uterine sarcoma (SDUS) is a recently described uterine sarcoma. It is characterized by predominantly rhabdoid or large epithelioid cells with abundant cytoplasm and varying components of small and spindle cells, resembling the 'large cell variant' of small cell carcinoma of the ovary, hypercalcemic type (SCCOHT). In addition, SMARCA4-inactivating mutations have been described as the driver mutations in SDUS. However, undifferentiated endometrial carcinoma (UDEC) and dedifferentiated endometrial carcinoma (DDEC) may show some clinical and morphological overlaps with SDUS, and about 20% of reported UDEC/DDEC cases also have loss expression of SMARCA4. SDUS is a very aggressive disease and universally lethal in all reported cases. Differentiating SDUS from UDEC/DDEC is relevant for the prognosis, pathogenesis, and possible targeted therapies for the disease. In this study, we compared the clinical, morphological, immunohistochemical, and molecular characteristics of 10 tumors including 2 SDUS, 2 SCCOHT, 1 uterine carcinoma with neuroendocrine differentiation (UDEC?), and 5 UDEC/DDEC. All 5 UDEC/DDEC cases showed strong and diffuse nuclear positivity for SOX2, while all SCCOHT and SDUS cases were completely negative. We concluded that SOX2 could be a useful marker for the differential diagnosis between SDUS and UDEC/DDEC.

In order to improve the interactive sharing ability of the medical information system and improve the adaptability of the medical file access and management, a big data analysis algorithm designed for the intelligent sensor information system interaction platform is proposed. Using the information collection, statistics, and summary in the archives, adopt the statistical method analysis, optimize the medical archives intelligent sensor information adaptive scheduling and access algorithm, establish the medical information interactive sharing database, design the medical information system interactive sharing platform under the B/S structure system, query and update the database management of the sharing platform, and complete the software development of the medical archives intelligent sensor information embedded interactive sharing platform. Simulation results show the recall rate of 0.82 to 1, much higher than the other two comparison methods, with better data mining performance. Therefore, the intelligent sensor medical information system interaction platform based on big data analysis can improve the science and standardization of the medical business.

Background Histone modification genes (HMs) play potential roles in plant growth and development via influencing gene expression and chromatin structure. However, limited information is available about HMs genes in grapes (Vitis vinifera L.). Results Here, we described detailed genome-wide identification of HMs gene families in grapevine. We identified 117 HMs genes in grapevine and classified these genes into 11 subfamilies based on conserved domains and phylogenetic relationships with Arabidopsis. We described the genes in terms of their chromosomal locations and exon-intron distribution. Further, we investigated the evolutionary history, gene ontology (GO) analysis, and syntenic relationships between grapes and Arabidopsis. According to results 21% HMs genes are the result of duplication (tandem and segmental) events and all the duplicated genes have negative mode of selection. GO analysis predicted the presence of HMs proteins in cytoplasm, nucleus, and intracellular organelles. According to seed development expression profiling, many HMs grapevine genes were differentially expressed in seeded and seedless cultivars, suggesting their roles in seed development. Moreover, we checked the response of HMs genes against powdery mildew infection at different time points. Results have suggested the involvement of some genes in disease resistance regulation mechanism. Furthermore, the expression profiles of HMs genes were analyzed in response to different plant hormones (Abscisic acid, Jasmonic acid, Salicylic acid, and Ethylene) at different time points. All of the genes showed differential expression against one or more hormones. Conclusion VvHMs genes might have potential roles in grapevine including seed development, disease resistance, and hormonal signaling pathways. Our study provides first detailed genome-wide identification and expression profiling of HMs genes in grapevine.

The carbon–carbon double bond formation via neodymium-mediated Barbier-type reaction of ketones and allyl halides in the presence of diethyl phosphite is reported for the first time. The reaction is highly α-regioselective and was conveniently carried out under mild conditions in a one-pot fashion. From a synthetic point of view, a series of conjugated alkenes were obtained in moderate to good yields in this one-pot reaction with feasible reaction conditions.

As an excellent candidate for lightweight structural materials and nonmetal electrical conductors, carbon nanotube reinforced carbon matrix (CNT/C) composites have potential use in technologies employed in aerospace, military, and defense endeavors, where the combinations of light weight, high strength, and excellent conductivity are required. Both polymer infiltration pyrolysis (PIP) and chemical vapor infiltration (CVI) methods have been widely studied for CNT/C composite fabrications with diverse focuses and various modifications. Progress has been reported to optimize the performance of CNT/C composites from broad aspects, including matrix densification, CNT alignment, microstructure control, and interface engineering, etc. Recent approaches, such as using resistance heating for PIP or CVI, contribute to the development of CNT/C composites. To deliver a timely and up-to-date overview of CNT/C composites, we have reviewed the most recent trends in fabrication processes, summarized the mechanical reinforcement mechanism, and discussed the electrical and thermal properties, as well as relevant case studies for high-temperature applications. Conclusions and perspectives addressing future routes for performance optimization are also presented. Hence, this review serves as a rundown of recent advances in CNT/C composites and will be a valuable resource to aid future developments in this field.

Deblurring is a vital image pre-processing procedure to improve the quality of images. It is a classical ill-posed problem. A new blind deblurring method based on image sparsity prior is proposed here. The proposed image sparsity prior combines patch-wise minimal and maximal pixels of latent image, and improves gradually the image sparsity during deblurring. An algorithm that is different with half quadratics splitting algorithm is applied under the maximum a posterior (MAP) framework. Experiment results demonstrate that the proposed method can keep more subtle texture and sharpened edges, reduce the artefacts in visual, and the corresponding evaluated indexes perform favourably against it of the state-of-the-art methods on synthesized, natural and remote sensing images (RSI) quantitatively.
