Doxorubicin (DOX), an anthracycline group antibiotic, has been extensively employed as a potent chemotherapeutic agent for treating solid and hematopoietic tumors in humans. Amid exposure to diverse stress conditions, living organisms swiftly initiate the synthesis of heat shock proteins (HSPs), a set of highly conserved proteins. Tannic acid (TA) has garnered increasing study attention due to its special chemical properties, health benefits, and wide availability. This study's primary aim is to elucidate the impact of DOX and TA on the expression levels of Hsp90aa1, Hspa1a, Hspa4, and Hspa5 in the spleen tissues of rats. Sprague Dawley rats (Rattus norvegicus, male, 9-10 weeks old, 180 ± 20 g) were randomly divided into 4 groups: control, DOX (30 mg/kg cumulative), TA (50 mg/kg), and DOX + TA (5 mg/kg and 50 mg/kg, respectively). Subsequently, spleen tissues were collected from rats, and complementary DNA libraries were generated after the application process. The quantitative real-time PCR method was used to detect and quantify the mRNA expression changes of the Hsp90aa1, Hspa1a, Hspa4, and Hspa5 genes our results showed that the mRNA expressions of the targeted genes were up-regulated in rat spleen tissues exposed to DOX. However, this increase was remarkably suppressed by TA treatment. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of omega-3 fatty acids on blood biochemical parameters, histological changes in pulmonary artery, cardiomyocytes, and liver, as well as the expression of ACACA, PFK1, and ET-1 genes in broiler chickens under environmental stress (high stoking density). A total of 420 one-day-old male Ross broilers were used in a 2 × 2 factorial arrangements, with 2 levels of environmental stress (without and with stress; 9 and 17 birds/m 2 , respectively) and 2 levels of omega-3 fatty acids (low and high; 0.057 and 0.5% of the diet, respectively) in a completely randomized design comprising 4 treatments and 5 replicates per each. The body weight decreased at d 40 because of environmental stress (P ≤ 0.05). The ascites heart index (AHI) in broilers fed high omega-3 fatty acids diets was lower (P = 0.062) than broiler fed low omega-3 fatty acids diet (0.279 vs. 0.316). Stressed birds showed a higher neutrophil: lymphocyte ratio compared to non-stressed birds (P ≤ 0.05). Broiler chickens receiving high omega-3 fatty acids diets exhibited elevated levels of hematocrit (HCT), hemoglobin (HGB), and lymphocytes (P ≤ 0.05). The neutrophil: lymphocyte ratio, and serum concentration of alanine aminotransferase (ALT), and aspartate aminotransferase (AST) decreased in broilers fed high omega-3 fatty acids diets (P ≤ 0.05). In stressed broilers on a high omega-3 diet, pulmonary artery wall thickness decreased (P ≤ 0.05). Additionally, under stress, myocardial cell diameter, hepatocyte and cell nucleus diameter significantly increased (P ≤ 0.05). Stressed broilers showed an increased relative fold change in PFK1 enzyme activity but reduced ET-1 mRNA expression in the liver compared to stressed birds on a high omega-3 diet (P ≤0.05). Nitrite is a toxic substance found in rearing water that affects shrimp health. The hepatopancreas is an important digestive, immune, and metabolic organ in the shrimp. In this study, shrimps (Litopenaeus vannamei) were separately exposed to 1 and 5 mg/L nitrite stress for 48 h, and the toxicity of nitrite in the hepatopancreas was explored by integrating histology, physiological indicators, energy metabolism, and metabolomics. Nitrite stress induced morphological changes and stress responses in the hepatopancreas. Specifically, physiology-related indices, such as the relative gene expression levels of antioxidants (ROMO1, Nrf2, GPx), endoplasmic reticulum stress (Bip, IRE1 and XBP1), and immune genes (ALF, Pen-3, Lys) were decreased, whereas the gene expression of apoptosis (Casp-3), detoxification (CYP450), and glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase (GOT) activity were increased. The activities of osmotic adjustment-related enzymes (NKA, CMA, and ATPase) also decreased. Energy metabolism-related indices, such as pyruvate and hepatic glycogen contents, increased, whereas glucose, lactic acid, triglyceride, and ATP contents and ATPase activity decreased, and the relative gene expression levels of carbohydrate metabolism (PDH, HK, and LDH) and electron-transport chain genes (CytC, COI and CCO) decreased, and the expressions of lipid metabolism (AMPK, SREBP, and FAS), tricarboxylic acid cycle (MDH, CS, IDH and FH) genes were also disturbed. The metabolic pattern of the hepatopancreas was affected by nitrite stress. Glycine, serine, and threonine metabolism were highly affected, and more functional amino acids varied in the 5 mg/L nitrite stress group. These results reveal the toxic effects of nitrite stress on the stress response, physiology, energy metabolism, and metabolite homeostasis in the hepatopancreas of shrimp. Stenotrophomonas rhizophila JC1 and its extracellular polysaccharides (EPS) have been shown to effectively adsorb heavy metals in previous studies. The fermentation conditions of EPS by S. rhizophila JC1 were optimized using the Box-Behnken design (BBD). The composition, structural characteristics, and heavy metal adsorption capacity of EPS were systematically evaluated. The alleviation mechanism of Pb 2+ stress on alfalfa was investigated through EPS inoculation. The maximum EPS yield reached 0.313 %. EPS consisted of glucose, glucosamine, galactose, and mannose in a molar ratio of 12.20:1:22.29:1.68. EPS also contained four distinct polymers with molecular weights of 623,683.71 Da, 144,072.27 Da, 105,892.21 Da, and 51,094.79 Da. The adsorption processes conformed to the pseudo-second-order model and Langmuir isotherm model. High Pb 2+ concentrations significantly reduced germination percentage, germinative force, root length, fresh weight, and soluble protein, inhibited photosynthesis, exacerbated oxidative stress, and caused damage to the antioxidant system, thereby inhibiting seedling growth. EPS at low concentrations can promote alfalfa seed germination and mitigate Pb 2+ stress by reducing the aforementioned damage. Background: Hericium erinaceus mycelium and its constituents, erinacines A and S, have shown neuroprotective effects in APP/PS1 transgenic mice; however, the precise mechanisms by which they modulate microglial phenotypes remain unclear. Our study is the first to explore the effect of erinacines on microglia morphology and the underlying mechanisms using a novel primary mixed glia cell model and advanced bioinformatic tools. Furthermore, we emphasize the clinical relevance by evaluating erinacines in a metabolically stressed APP/PS1 mouse model, which more accurately reflects the complexities of human Alzheimer's disease (AD), where metabolic syndrome is a common comorbidity., Methods: Rat primary mixed glial cultures were used to simulate the spectrum of microglial phenotypes, particularly the transition from immature to mature states. Microarray sequencing, along with Connectivity Map, ConsensusPathDB, and Gene Set Enrichment Analysis, identified pathways influenced by erinacines. The therapeutic efficacy was further evaluated in metabolically stressed APP/PS1 mice., Results: Erinacines significantly promoted the development of a ramified, neuroprotective microglial phenotype. Bioinformatics revealed potential modulation of microglia via histone deacetylase inhibition, actin filament dynamics, and synaptic structure modification-pathways not previously linked to erinacines in AD. Importantly, erinacines significantly lower fasting blood glucose and insulin levels while reducing amyloid-beta plaque burden, suppressing hyperactivated glial responses, and enhancing neurogenesis in the metabolically stressed APP/PS1 mice., Conclusion: Our findings demonstrate the dual action of erinacines in modulating microglia morphology and phenotype while providing neuroprotection in a model that closely mimic the complexities of human Alzheimer's disease. Cadmium (Cd) is a major environmental pollutant that adversely affects plant growth and productivity, creating a need for effective mitigation strategies. This study aims to evaluate the impact of salicylic acid (SA) priming on the physio-biochemical characteristics of three mung bean varieties (Vigna radiata L.), namely NM-2006, NM-92, and Mash-88, under Cd stress. To achieve this, the mung bean varieties were subjected to Cd stress with and without SA priming, and their growth, chlorophyll content, protein levels, and oxidative stress markers were analyzed. Results showed significant reductions in growth, chlorophyll, and protein contents, alongside increased oxidative stress markers such as hydrogen peroxide and malondialdehyde under Cd stress. Moreover, Cd exposure also led to higher levels of proline, glycine betaine, and total soluble sugars. However, SA priming alleviated these adverse effects by enhancing growth, chlorophyll fluorescence, and protein content while reducing oxidative damage by upregulating the enzymatic antioxidant mechanism. Additionally, SA priming also modulated phytohormone levels, specifically increasing abscisic acid and jasmonic acid while decreasing ethylene. Comparative analysis revealed that NM-2006 suffered the most from Cd stress, NM-92 showed a better response to SA priming, and Mash-88 exhibited the least damage and greatest benefit from SA priming. Long-term exposure to high ammonia concentrations could severely impact chicken health. On the other hand, luteolin has been shown to protect against ammonia poisoning. Although phosphorylation is critically involved in toxicity induction, the specific role of phosphorylated proteins in ammonia poisoning remains unclear. Herein, we constructed an in vitro model to study chicken ammonia poisoning and also analyzed the protective effects of luteolin. Specifically, a combined series of organic techniques such as protein extraction, enzyme digestion, modified peptide enrichment, Liquid Chromatography-Tandem Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) analysis, and bioinformatics analysis were employed for a quantitative omics study of phosphorylation modification in three groups of samples. Our findings revealed thousands of Differentially Expressed Proteins (DEPs). The differentially expressed modified proteins were subjected to GO classification, KEGG pathway analysis, cluster analysis, and protein interaction analysis, revealing the detoxification mechanism encompassed mitochondrial maintenance, signal transduction, transcriptional regulation, and cytoskeleton regulation. In the process, mitochondria and Golgi apparatus were the key organelles. Furthermore, the AKT1/FOXO signaling pathway and Heat Shock Proteins (HSPs) were the key core modifiers of the proteins. Cadmium (Cd) is a major soil pollutant that threatens plant growth and human health. The plant ATPase associated with various cellular activities (AAA) SKD1 utilizes ATP hydrolysis energy to mediate cellular responses to environmental stress. However, the role and regulatory mechanisms of SKD1 in plant responses to Cd stress are not well understood. This study has demonstrated that the maize SKD1 gene (ZmSKD1) enhanced tobacco's tolerance to Cd stress. Overexpression of ZmSKD1 in tobacco reduced Cd accumulation and improved Cd tolerance. Moreover, ZmSKD1 overexpression enhanced the antioxidant capacity of tobacco, maintaining reactive oxygen species homeostasis and mitigating oxidative damage under Cd stress. The transcription factor AGL8 directly activated ZmSKD1 transcription, which in turn boosted ATPase activity in tobacco. This activation enhanced vesicle trafficking in root cells and accelerated Cd excretion in transgenic tobacco plants. Concurrently, the AGL8-ZmSKD1 module inhibited the expression of several Cd transport-related genes, thereby reducing Cd uptake by tobacco roots. Emerging challenges in marine environments include nanoplastics (NPs) pollution and coastal hypoxia. Although NPs toxicity in marine organisms is being increasingly documented, the complex interactions between coastal hypoxia and NPs remain largely unexplored. This study investigated the dual effects of polystyrene nanoplastics and different oxygen levels on redox homeostasis and bioenergetics in the marine model organism Mytilus galloprovincialis. Both NPs and hypoxia significantly disrupted redox homeostasis in mussels. Exposure to NPs alone increased electron transport chain activity, whereas exposure to hypoxia alone and co-exposure significantly reduced this activity. Metabolomic analysis showed that NPs primarily affected the pentose phosphate pathway (PPP), tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle, and amino acid metabolism; hypoxia exposure alone disrupted the TCA cycle, pyruvate metabolism, and glycolysis/gluconeogenesis, whereas combined exposure notably altered the TCA cycle, PPP, and sugar interconversion. This suggests that regulating these pathways would help mussels cope with the combined environmental stress. Furthermore, co-exposure severely disrupted redox homeostasis and energy metabolism in mussels, suggesting that hypoxia exacerbates NPs toxicity. Residual concentrations of antibiotics in water can reach ng mL -1 - µg mL -1 levels, which pose high risks to crops during irrigation; however, the interactions between rice and antibiotics, as well as the defense mechanisms of rice at their early growth phase remain unclear. In this study, we investigated the uptake dynamics of a ubiquitously found antibiotic, ciprofloxacin (CIP) at 0.1, 1, 6.5, and 20 µg mL -1 in rice seedlings. We found gradually bioaccumulated CIP induced significant physiological changes including inhibited growth of roots and leaves of rice seedlings, and decreased pigment contents, which can be caused by disrupted homeostasis of reactive oxygen species. Integrating roots transcriptomics, metabolomics, and validation experiments, we found that rice seedlings synthesized more gibberellins to trigger the expression of transcription factors such as group VII ethylene response factors, which induced metabolic reprogramming to yield more fatty acids derivates. These compounds including eicosanoids, isoprenoids, and fatty acids and conjugates can act as signaling molecules, as well as antioxidants and energy sources to achieve rice recovery. This conclusion is supported by the evidence showing that adding gibberellins in rice seedlings culture decreased the accumulated CIP and improved rice growth; whilst, disrupting gibberellin signaling pathway using paclobutrazol as an inhibitor increased uptaken CIP in both roots and leaves with augmenting the antibiotic stress on rice. Herbicides pose a threat to various non-target organisms, including fish. A widely used herbicide, glyphosate, and its main breakdown product, aminomethylphosphonic acid (AMPA), are quite ubiquitous in freshwater systems. The aim of this work was to analyze changes in the relative abundance of hepatic proteins participating in the biotransformation and response to chemical stress in adult zebrafish Danio rerio exposed to environmentally relevant concentrations of glyphosate (100 μg/L), AMPA (100 μg/L), and their mixture (50 μg/L + 50 μg/L) for two weeks. Proteomic analysis showed that the tested concentrations caused dysregulation of various biotransformation proteins, the most upregulated of which in all treatment groups was the Phase I enzyme cyp27a7. While glyphosate had a more pronounced impact on the biotransformation pathways, AMPA showed stronger interference with redox homeostasis. Microplastics/nanoplastics are a top global environmental concern and have stimulated surging research into plant-nanoplastic interactions. Previous studies have examined the responses of plants to nanoplastic stress at various levels. Plant-specialized (secondary) metabolites play crucial roles in plant responses to environmental stress, whereas their roles in response to nanoplastic stress remain unknown. Here, we systematically examined the physiological and biochemical responses of Ginkgo biloba, a species with robust metabolite-driven defenses, to polystyrene nanoplastics (PSNPs). PSNPs negatively affected seedling growth and induced phytotoxicity, oxidative stress, and nuclear damage. Notably, PSNPs caused significant flavonoid accumulation, which enhances plant tolerance and detoxification against PSNP stress. To determine whether this finding is universal in plants, we subjected Arabidopsis, poplar, and tomato to PSNP stress and verified the common response of enhanced flavonoids across these species. To further confirm the role of flavonoids, we employed genetic transformation and staining techniques, validating the importance of flavonoids in mitigating excessive oxidative stress induced by NPs. Matrix analysis of transgenic plants with enhanced flavonoids further demonstrated altered downstream pathways, allocating more energy towards resilience against nanoplastic stress. Melatonin is involved in biological adverse stress response and enhances the ability of yeast to adapt to adverse conditions. This study investigated the mechanism of exogenous melatonin addition to Saccharomyces cerevisiae (S. cerevisiae) under copper stress. The results indicated that the addition of excessive exogenous melatonin (100 mg/L) led to the accumulation of maltose and trehalose in S. cerevisiae, which slowed glucose metabolism and further suppressed the alcoholic fermentation process. The cell morphology, cell wall structure, and the organelle morphology of S. cerevisiae EC1118 under copper stress improved with the addition of 1 μg/mL of melatonin. The results of gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) indicated that melatonin induced more creamy and waxy flavors in the fermentation broth, whereas excessive melatonin led to the production of unpleasant fats with a coconut oil smell. The metabolomics results showed that melatonin promoted the synthesis of Cup1p and increased copper resistance by upregulating the sulfur-containing amino acids methionine and cysteine. Furthermore, lipid peroxidation and DNA damage were alleviated through the upregulation of AFMK, which protected the integrity of the cell membrane, thereby the physiological mechanism of alleviating copper stress was achieved. Overall, moderate amounts of melatonin reduced the contraction of cells caused by copper stress and promoted the production of flavor substances. To investigate the regulatory mechanisms and pathways of visfatin under immune stress injury in weaned piglets, we established a lipopolysaccharide-induced immune stress model in weaned piglets to study how visfatin affects peripheral immune organs and intestinal function. The results revealed that visfatin improved the inflammatory response in immune-stressed weaned piglets by reducing the levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines interleukin-1β, interleukin-6 and monocyte chemoattractant protein-1, as well as decreasing the neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio. Visfatin ameliorated oxidative stress in piglets by promoting the expression of superoxide dismutase and glutathione peroxidase. It also enhanced cell proliferation in peripheral immune organs (spleen and mesenteric lymph nodes) and suppressed cell apoptosis in these organs through the death receptor apoptosis pathway, thereby improving the immune function of weaned piglets under immune stress. Moreover, it alleviated intestinal villi damage, increased the abundance of beneficial bacteria, and elevated the levels of short-chain fatty acids, thus preserving the intestinal barrier's integrity and the balance of intestinal microbiota. Heavy metal contamination, particularly from cadmium (Cd) and lead (Pb), poses significant risks to soil and water resources and leads to severe damage in plants. This study investigated the physiological and molecular mechanisms of the responses of tomato ( Solanum lycopersicum L.) seedlings to Cd and Pb stress by applying 50 mg/L Cd, 100 mg/L Pb, and a combination of 50 mg/L Cd + 100 mg/L Pb. The goal was to understand how these heavy metals impact the growth, antioxidant systems, and secondary metabolic pathways in tomato seedlings. The results showed that compared with the control, Cd + Pb stress significantly increased the content of soluble sugar by 37.40% and 33.46% on days 5 and 15, respectively, and the content of proline by 77.91% to 93.91% during the entire period in tomato seedlings. It also elevated electrical leakage by 110.52% on day 15, maintained the levels of malondialdehyde close to the control, enhanced the activities of superoxide dismutase by 33.32% on day 10 and 11.22% on day 15, peroxidase by 42.15% on day 10, and catalase by 90.78% on day 10. Additionally, it reduced the contents of hydrogen peroxide by 15.47% to 29.64% and the rate of formation of superoxide anions by 26.34% to 53.47% during the entire period of treatment. The transcriptomic analysis revealed a significant differential expression of the genes involved in pathways, such as phenylalanine, glutathione, arginine and proline, and nitrogen metabolism. These genes included PALs , HDCs , GGCT , ODC1 , LAPs , SMS , and SAMDC . Notably, transcription factors, such as ERF109 , ARF9 , GRF3 , GRF4 , GRF7 , and GRF9 , were also significantly regulated. The study concluded that Cd and Pb stress enhanced the osmoregulatory and antioxidant defense systems in tomato seedlings, which may contribute to their tolerance to heavy metal stress. Intervertebral disc degeneration (IVDD) is a common cause of low back pain. Procyanidin C1 (PCC1) has been demonstrated to exert a protective effect on nucleus pulposus (NP) cells, and therefore, plays a critical role in the prevention and therapy of IVDD. Clarifying the pathophysiological characteristics and molecular mechanisms of IVDD may be helpful in establishing novel preventive and therapeutic strategies. This study aimed to investigate the probable mechanisms underlying the protection against acidic pH stress induced human NP cell injury. In vitro, acidic pH stress induced degeneration, mitochondrial dynamics imbalance, mitophagy, and mitochondria-mediated apoptosis in NP cells, all of which were ameliorated by PCC1. Autophagy inhibition partially eliminated the protective effects of PCC1 on mitochondrial homeostasis in NP cells. Background: Glycyrrhiza , a perennial herbaceous medicinal plant, is extensively utilized in the pharmaceutical industry. The growth of Glycyrrhiza is frequently constrained by soil phosphorus availability, as a significant portion of arable land in China suffers from phosphorus deficiency., Method: This study utilized Ural Glycyrrhiza uralensis Fisch as the subject and examined the application of GR24, a synthetic strigolactone, under three phosphorus conditions: none (P1), low (P2), and high (P3). The research aimed to ascertain the optimal concentration of GR24 for promoting licorice growth and development, thereby providing a theoretical foundation for its agricultural management., Results: The optimal GR24 concentration for P3 and P2 conditions was identified as G3 (10 µM), which enhanced growth metrics, chlorophyll a and b levels, while also boosting antioxidant enzyme activities in licorice. Specifically under P3, significant increases in liquiritigenin and glycyrrhizic acid levels were observed. Under P2, increases were noted in isoliquiritigenin, liquiritigenin, and liquiritin levels. Transcriptome analysis revealed differential gene, with 137 and 270 genes up-regulated and 77 and 294 genes down-regulated in the P3 and P2 treatments, respectively. GO functional enrichment identified 132 and 436 differentially expressed genes for P3 and P2 respectively, while KEGG pathways were predominantly enriched in plant-pathogen interactions and phenylpropanoid biosynthesis. Application of GR24 in P1 conditions did not significantly affect growth indices but did enhance glycyrrhetic acid, isoliquiritin, and liquiritin accumulation. Key Message: GmABCI5 and GmABCI13 enhance Al tolerance through regulating the composition of root cell wall, and in this process, GmABCI5 and GmABCI13 may act in the form of a complex. Aluminum (Al) toxicity is a major factor limiting plant growth in acidic soils. ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporters are involved in plant tolerance to various environmental stresses. However, there are few reports on the ABC transporters implicated in soybean tolerance to Al toxicity. Here, we reported that two genes, GmABCI5 and GmABCI13, were involved in Al tolerance in soybean (Glycine max). GmABCI5 and GmABCI13 encode a nucleotide-binding domain and a transmembrane domain of a bacterial-type ABC transporter, respectively. The expression of both GmABCI5 and GmABCI13 was mainly induced by Al in the roots. GmABCI5 was localized at the plasma membrane and also in the cytoplasm and nucleus, while GmABCI13 was only localized at the plasma membrane. Furthermore, GmABCI5 could physically interact with GmABCI13. Overexpression of GmABCI5 or GmABCI13 in Arabidopsis reduced Al accumulation in roots and enhanced Al tolerance. However, expression of GmABCI5 and/or GmABCI13 in yeast cells did not affect Al uptake. Under Al stress, transgenic Arabidopsis lines expressing GmABCI5 or GmABCI13 had lower Al content in root cell walls than wild-type plants. Further analysis showed that Al content in cell wall fractions (pectin and hemicellulose 1) of transgenic lines was significantly lower than that of wild-type plants, which was coincident with the changes of pectin and hemicellulose 1 content under Al stress. Sugarcane molasses is an ideal economical raw material for ethanol production because of its wide availability, low cost and nutrient content. However, benzoic acid compounds with toxic effects on yeast cells are commonly found in sugarcane molasses. At present, the molecular mechanism of the toxic effects of benzoic acid on Saccharomyces cerevisiae has not been elucidated. Here, the toxic effect of exogenous benzoic acid on S. cerevisiae GJ2008 cells was studied, and the genes differentially expressed in S. cerevisiae GJ2008 after 1.2 g/L benzoic acid stress were identified via Illumina RNA-Seq technology. The results indicated that benzoic acid significantly inhibited yeast cell growth, prolonged their rapid growth period, and ultimately reduced their biomass. During ethanol fermentation using 250 g/L sucrose under 1.2 g/L benzoic acid stress, several adverse effects were observed, such as high residual sugar content, low ethanol concentration and low fermentation efficiency. In addition, the cell morphology was damaged, the cell membrane permeability increased, intracellular nucleic acid and protein leakage increased, and the malondialdehyde content significantly increased. Moreover, the cells protected themselves by significantly increasing the intracellular glycerol content. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy proved that benzoic acid could reduce the degree of unsaturation and increase cell membrane permeability by changing the yeast cell wall and cell membrane composition, leading to cell damage and even death. Transcriptomic analysis revealed that under benzoic acid stress, the expression of genes associated with sucrose and starch metabolism, thiamine metabolism, the glycolysis pathway, fructose and mannose metabolism, galactose metabolism and ABC transporters was significantly downregulated. The expression of genes related to ribosomes, lipid metabolism, ribosome biosynthesis, nucleic acid metabolism, arginine and proline metabolism, RNA polymerase, metabolism related to cofactor synthesis, and biosynthesis of valine, leucine, and isoleucine was significantly upregulated. These results indicated that benzoic acid inhibited glycolysis and reduced sugar absorption and utilization and ATP energy supply in yeast cells. In response to stress, genes related to the ribosome bioanabolic pathway were upregulated to promote protein synthesis. On the other hand, the expression of ELO1, SUR4, FEN1 and ERG1 was upregulated, which led to extension of long-chain fatty acids and accumulation of ergosterol to maintain cell membrane structure. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) are essential modulators of epigenetic modifications under abiotic stress. However, the mutual regulation mechanism of the two under cadmium (Cd) stress is unclear. In this work, we investigated this issue using Cd-stressed pakchoi seedlings treated with six epi-modification inhibitors (5-AC, RG108, TSA, CUDC101, AT13148, and H89) as experimental materials. The experimental data showed that Cd stress caused ROS accumulation and chromatin decondensation. Addition of low concentrations of epi-modification inhibitors increased histone acetylation modification levels, and effectively attenuated cell cycle arrest and DNA damage caused by Cd-induced ROS accumulation, where histone acetylation modification levels were co-regulated by histone acetyltransferase and deacetyltransferase gene transcription. Moreover, the addition of the antioxidant Thi enhanced this mitigating effect. Also, TSA addition at high concentrations could also increase Cd-induced ROS accumulation. This work studied the effects of C. longa extract as a dietary supplement for Macrobrachium rosenbergii. Shrimp juvenile (n = 960, initial average weight 0.06 ± 0.042 g and initial stocking density 0.4 animals/L) received diets with different concentrations of turmeric extract (0.05, 0.2, 1%) for 60 days, and zootechnical (weight gain, specific growth rate, initial and final condition factor) and metabolic (activities of digestive enzymes, amino acid metabolism enzymes, and energy metabolism enzymes) parameters were evaluated. A transport simulation (TS) test was conducted and, in challenged animals, survival and antioxidant status were studied. Phenolic compound content and in vitro antioxidant potential of the turmeric extract were evaluated. Turmeric extract (0.05%) significantly increased weight gain and the activity of digestive enzymes. An increase in citrate synthase activity for all concentrations of turmeric was also observed. The glutamate dehydrogenase activity in the 0.05% group was also increased by turmeric extract. The in vitro antioxidant activity of the turmeric extract was like butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT), a common antioxidant, and the total phenolic content was 0.98 ± 0.02 mmolAG/g. In animals from the TS test, turmeric extract promoted a dose-dependent increase in animal survival. Furthermore, turmeric supplementation increased the activity of the enzymes catalase, glutathione reductase, glutathione peroxidase, glutathione S-transferase, and it reduced glutathione (GSH) content. A reduction in the levels of lipid peroxidation (TBARS) and protein carbonyl was also observed in the hepatopancreas of all experimental groups. The addition of low concentrations of turmeric extract to the diet of M. rosenbergii juvenile presents great potential for application in commercial shrimp farming, since the extract (at concentrations as low as 0.05 to 1%) increased weight gain and improved the physiological and metabolic conditions of the animals, improving the use of nutrients and consequently the animals' responses to stressful conditions, such as transport., Competing Interests: Declarations. With the increasing concern on heavy metal contamination in agriculture and other environmental settings, unraveling the mechanisms of cadmium (Cd) tolerance and response in plants has become highly important. Ongoing plant Cd research over the years has focused on strategic and relevant aspects, including molecular, biochemical, and physiological processes. From this perspective, phosphoproteomics appears to be an innovative and powerful approach to investigating plant responses to Cd stress. Here, we summarize progress in plant Cd research across different plant species regarding large-scale phosphoproteomic investigations. Some studies revealed major proteins participating in detoxification, stress signaling, and metabolism, along with their regulation through phosphorylation, which modulates the plant's defense against Cd. However, many pathways remain unexplored. Expanding these studies will help our ability to alleviate Cd stress and provide further information concerning involved mechanisms. Our purpose is to inspire researchers to further explore the use of phosphoproteomics in unraveling such complex mechanisms of Cd tolerance and response across various plant species, with the ultimate aim of enhancing strategies for mitigating Cd stress in agriculture and polluted environments.

Purpose: This study aimed to compare the impact of remimazolam-based versus propofol-based intravenous anesthesia on surgical stress and post-operative immune function in patients undergoing gastric radical surgery., Patients and Methods: Sixty-eight patients aged 50 to 80 undergoing gastric radical surgery were randomly assigned to the remimazolam group (group R) or the propofol group (group P), receiving remimazolam or propofol-based intravenous anesthesia, respectively. The primary outcome measured was peri-operative serum stress indicators and lymphocyte subtypes. Secondary outcomes included hemodynamic vitals, recovery quality, postoperative pain profiles and potential adverse effects., Results: The demographic and surgical characteristics of the 60 analyzed patients were comparable. The absolute counts of CD3+CD4+ and CD3+CD8+ cell decreased significantly on POD1 compared with baseline. On POD3, the numbers of CD3+CD4+ cells in group R were lower than baseline and Group P, whereas the CD3+CD8+ cell counts in both groups were lower than baseline, with group R higher than group P. The CD3-CD16+CD56+ cell numbers in both groups on POD1 and POD3 decreased significantly compared to baseline with group P lower than group R on POD3. The serum levels of IL-1β, IL-6, TNF-α, ACTH and COR rose sharply 2 hours after the beginning of surgery compared to baseline. Notably, all these parameters in group R were higher than those in group P. Additionally, blood pressure and intra-operative vasoactive drug frequency in group R were higher than that in group P. No significant differences in recovery quality, postoperative pain profiles, and potential adverse effects were observed., Conclusion: Remimazolam-based intravenous anesthesia might favour the recovery of cellular immune function in early postoperative period compared to propofol. Cadmium (Cd) can harm the yield and quality of vegetables, threatening food safety. Essential microelements such as iron are crucial for plant growth and can help alleviate heavy metal stress. Recently, nanoparticles have been studied as eco-friendly solutions for mitigating heavy metal stress in plants. In the present study, iron nanoparticles (FeNPs) at 0, 100, and 300 mg/L were applied as soil drenches and foliar sprays to tomato plants under cadmium stress. A comparison was made between the application methods of FeNPs by evaluating the growth parameters of tomato plants, including shoot length (SL), root length (RL), number of branches (NB), number of leaves per plant (NL), and leaf area (LA), as well as by assessing biochemical and antioxidant enzyme parameters. In the Cd stress treatment, the protein content decreased by 24.71%, and the phenolic and flavonoid content of the tomato plants also decreased due to cadmium stress, with levels decreasing from 16.07 to 6.9 µg and from 0.36 to 0.16 µg, respectively. Compared with the soil drench, 100 mg/L FeNPs significantly improved the parameters of Cd-stressed plants when used as a foliar spray, leading to increases in shoot length, root length, fruit weight, number of fruits, number of leaves, and number of branches by 42%, 66%, 24%, 66%, 173%, and 45%, respectively. Tomato plants treated with this spray presented increased carotenoid and lycopene contents. FeNP foliar spray also reduced Cd accumulation in plant tissues. Wheat can tolerate a mild water deficit, but prolonged drought causes a number of detrimental physiological changes resulting in a substantial decrease in productivity. The present study evaluates the potential of the natural plant growth regulator melatonin to alleviate the negative effects of moderate drought in two Bulgarian winter wheat cultivars at the early vegetative stage. Melatonin doses of 75 µM were root-supplemented 24 h before or after the stress period. The levels of several biometric parameters, osmolyte content and stress indicators as well as the expression of genes coding for key enzymes of the proline biosynthesis pathway were analyzed in leaves at the end of the drought stress and after two and four days of recovery. Applied alone, melatonin did not exert significant effects on most of the monitored parameters. Water deprivation negatively affected seedlings' fresh weight and water content and increased the stress markers and osmolyte levels. These were accompanied by a high accumulation of TaP5CS and TaP5CR transcripts coding for the enzymes Δ-pyrroline-5-carboxylate synthase and Δ-pyrroline-5-carboxylate reductase, respectively. The effect of melatonin in reducing drought stress was similar whether applied before or after exposure, though slightly more effective when used as a pre-treatment.

General anesthesia (GA) is an indispensable procedure necessary for safely and compassionately administering a significant number of surgical procedures and invasive diagnostic tests. However, the undesired stress response associated with GA causes delayed recovery and even increased morbidity in the clinic. Here, a core hypothalamic ensemble, corticotropin-releasing hormone neurons in the paraventricular nucleus of the hypothalamus (PVH CRH neurons), is discovered to play a role in regulating sevoflurane GA. Chemogenetic activation of these neurons delay the induction of and accelerated emergence from sevoflurane GA, whereas chemogenetic inhibition of PVH CRH neurons accelerates induction and delays awakening. Moreover, optogenetic stimulation of PVH CRH neurons induce rapid cortical activation during both the steady and deep sevoflurane GA state with burst-suppression oscillations. Interestingly, chemogenetic inhibition of PVH CRH neurons relieve the sevoflurane GA-elicited stress response (e.g., excessive self-grooming and elevated corticosterone level). Lipid remodeling is crucial for various cellular activities and the stress tolerance of plants; however, little is known about the lipid dynamics induced by the heavy metal cadmium (Cd). In this study, we investigated the phospholipid profiles in rice (Oryza sativa) under Cd exposure. We observed a significant decline in the total amounts of phosphatidylcholine and phosphatidylserine, contrasted with an elevation in phosphatidic acid (PA) due to Cd stress. Additionally, Cd stress prompted the activation of phospholipase D (PLD) and induced the expression of PLDα1. OsPLDα1 knockout mutants (Ospldα1) showed increased sensitivity to Cd, characterized by a heightened accumulation of hydrogen peroxide in roots and diminished PA production following Cd treatment. Conversely, PLDα1-overexpressing (OsPLDα1-OE) lines demonstrated enhanced tolerance to Cd, with suppressed transcription of the respiratory burst oxidase homolog (Rboh) genes. The transcription levels of genes associated with Cd uptake and transport were accordingly modulated in Ospldα1 and OsPLDα1-OE plants relative to the wild-type. Animal care committees remain ambiguous on the need for anesthetics during experimental procedures on invertebrate taxa due to long-standing questioning of their sentience and pain perception. When used, anesthetizing procedures for invertebrates have commonly been adapted from those developed for vertebrates, under the largely unverified assumption that they afford the same benefits. The present study formally tested the efficacy of four common anesthetics of aquatic invertebrates (ethanol, MgCl 2 , clove oil, MS-222) using behavioural (reaction to physical contact and presence of a predator), physiological (respiration rate), cellular (coelomocytes), and hormonal (cortisol) biomarkers in the holothuroid Cucumaria frondosa (Echinodermata). While subjects recovered from exposures to all anesthetics tested, their responses differed markedly. Ethanol did not immobilize the individuals and concurrently increased their respiration rate, and cellular and hormonal stress markers. MgCl 2 and clove oil reduced the behavioural and physiological responses, and decreased the cellular markers, but increased the cortisol levels. Only MS-222 fully immobilized the treated individuals and decreased their respiration rate, both during exposure and throughout ulterior interactions with a predator, while keeping coelomocyte counts and cortisol concentrations at baseline levels. The effects of foliar application of sodium nitroprusside (SNP), magnesium sulfate (MgSO 4 ) and magnesium oxide nanoparticles (MgO-NPs) on the growth, physiology, and gas exchange parameters of two varieties of spinach (Spinacia oleracea L.) under cadmium (Cd) stress were examined. The experiment was arranged in a completely randomized design with 72 pots. Two varieties of S. oleracea (Desi Palak & Lahori Palak) were used. Two concentrations of Cd (0 µM and 150 µM) in the form of cadmium chloride (CdCl 2 ) were used. Two levels of SNP (0 ppm and 100 ppm) and two levels for each form of Mg i.e. MgSO 4 and MgO-NPs (0 and 200 ppm) were foliar sprayed on plants in control and Cd stress. Both varieties behaved similarly under Cd stress and caused reductions in growth, physiology, gas exchange, water content parameters and inorganic ion uptake. However, the biochemical parameters like relative membrane permeability (RMP), malondialdehyde (MDA), and hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ) contents were increased. However, all foliar spray treatments increased growth, physiological and gas exchange parameters, water content and inorganic ion uptake. However, this reduced the MDA, RMP, and H 2 O 2 contents. Desi Palak showed the more positive results under foliar application of MgO-NPs. However, Lahori palak showed more positive results under the SNP + MgO-NP treatment. S-nitrosoglutathione reductase (GSNOR) is involved in the response to cadmium (Cd) exposure. In this study, the plants of mutant (gsnor1-3) with lossing-function of- and over-expression (GSNOR OE 5) of GSNOR were used to clear the role of GSNOR in Cd tolerance. GSNOR activity increased through upregulating the expression of the AtGSNOR gene and protein in Arabidopsis thaliana under Cd stress, which attenuated Cd tolerance. Oxidative damage was more serious in GSNOR OE 5 and was alleviated in gsnor1-3 under Cd stress, compared with Col-0. Induction of GSNOR facilitated H 2 O 2 accumulation but inhibited catalase (CAT) activity in shoots under Cd stress. This phenotype was eliminated by 3-amino-1,2,4-triazole (3-AT), a CAT inhibitor. In addition, the expressions of AtCAT1 and AtCAT2 were down-regulated with increasing GSNOR activity under Cd stress. This suggested that GSNOR was involved in the accumulation of hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ) through regulating CAT expression and activity under Cd exposure. Furthermore, Cd tolerance and CAT activity were improved by spraying S-nitrosoglutathione (GSNO) onto the surface of the leaves. The in vitro activity of CAT increased with GSNO concentration until a GSNO/CAT ratio of 2 was reached. Thus, CAT activity was relative to GSNOR through regulating the expression and S-nitrosylation level of proteins. Consumption of a high-fat diet is accompanied by the risks of obesity and early onset of age-associated complications for which dietary interventions are imperative to combat. α-lipoic acid has been shown to hinder diet-induced obesity and induce lifespan-extending efficacy in model organisms. In this study, α-lipoic acid was investigated for its efficacy in improving lifespan and stress resistance in the Canton-S strain of Drosophila melanogaster fed with a high-fat diet. Furthermore, as mating status significantly impacts survival in fruit flies, flies were reared in two experimental groups-group one, in which males and females were bred together, and group two, in which males and females were bred separately. In group one, α-lipoic acid improved the mean lifespan, reduced the fecundity of females, and reduced the mean body weight of flies at a dose range of 2-2.5 mM, respectively. In group two, α-lipoic acid improved the mean lifespan, reduced the fecundity of females, and reduced the mean body weight of flies at a dose range of 1-2.5 mM, respectively. Improved climbing efficiency was observed with α-lipoic acid at the dose range of 1.5-2.5 mM in flies of group one and 1-2.5 mM in flies of group two, respectively. Administration of α-lipoic acid improved resistance to oxidative stress in only female flies of group one at 2.5 mM, whereas in group two, both male and female flies exhibited enhanced resistance to oxidative stress with α-lipoic acid at a dose range of 2-2.5 mM, respectively. Male and female flies of only group one showed improved resistance to heat shock stress with α-lipoic acid at a dose range of 2-2.5 mM. Only female flies of group two exhibited a slight improvement in recovery time following cold shock with α-lipoic acid only at 2.5 mM. No significant change in resistance to starvation stress was observed with any dose of α-lipoic acid in either group of flies. To summarize, data from this study suggested a probable dose and gender-dependent efficacy of α-lipoic acid in flies fed with a high-fat diet, which was significantly influenced by the mating status of flies due to varied rearing conditions., (© 2024. In this study, we identified a transcription factor, OsSGL (Oryza sativa Stress tolerance and Grain Length), which acts as a negative regulator in salt stress, controlling ABA synthesis. OsSGL-overexpressing and mutant materials exhibited sensitivity and tolerance to salt stress, respectively. Notably, under salt treatment, several ABA-related genes, including the ABA synthesis enzyme OsNCED3 and the ABA response gene OsRAB21, were bound by OsSGL, leading to the inhibition of their transcription. Additionally, we found that a key enzyme involved in glycolysis, OsGAPC1, interacted with OsSGL and enhanced the inhibitory effect of OsSGL on OsNCED3. Upon salt stress, OsGAPC1 underwent acetylation and then translocated from the nucleus to the cytoplasm, partially alleviating the inhibitory effect of OsSGL on OsNCED3. Identification of the OsGAPC1-OsSGL module revealed a negative regulatory mechanism involved in the response of rice to salt stress. Black tea is believed to strengthen the ability of the body to defend itself against external stimuli. Here, by examining Caenorhabditis elegans (C. elegans) locomotor behavior over a short period after UV stress, we found that feeding black tea extract (BTE) caused worms to enter a superior stress-induced sleep (SIS) state, which potentially boosting organismal recovery. BTE enhances SIS through KIN-29 mediated epidermal growth factor signaling and modulation of sleep by specific interneurons ALA and RIS. It also inhibits lipid degradation during sleep. These functions were also observed when theaflavins (TFs) were fed. The dynamics of heart rate variability (HRV) during acute stress was studied in male nonlinear rats that received single injection of serotonin (200 μg/kg) or dopamine (60 μg/kg), regular (4-fold) injections of central serotonin receptor blockers (ketanserin and granisetron, 0.1 mg/kg each) or central dopamine receptor blockers (0.1 mg/kg SCH-23390 and 10 mg/kg sulpiride), as well as a combination of central receptor blockers with the administration of serotonin or dopamine, respectively. During stress against the background of serotonin receptors blockade, a weak tachycardia, low stress index, high rhythm variability, especially in the low-frequency range were recorded; against the background of dopamine receptors blockade, increased reactivity to stress at high HR, an initial increase in the stress index, and a decrease in rhythm variability, followed by an increase in the proportion of very low frequency waves in the spectrum were revealed. Serotonin and dopamine, by stimulating peripheral receptors, predominantly weakened stress-induced changes in HRV (especially serotonin), but in combination with blockade of the corresponding central receptors contributed to maintaining tachycardia, reduced rhythm variability, and potentiated the effects of blockers in relation to stress induced changes in the wave structure of the HRV spectrum. Histone modifications (HMs) play various roles in growth, development, and resistance to abiotic stress. However, HMs have been systematically identified in a few plants, and identification of HMs in medicinal plants is very rare. Aquilaria sinensis is a typical stress-induced medicinal plant, in which HMs remain unexplored. We conducted a comprehensive study to identify HMs and obtained 123 HMs. To conduct evolutionary analysis, we constructed phylogenetic trees and analyzed gene structures. To conduct functional analysis, we performed promoter, GO, and KEGG analyses and ortholog analyses against AtHMs. Based on the expression profiles of different tissues and different layers of Agar-Wit, some HMs of A. sinensis (AsHMs) were predicted to be involved in the formation of agarwood, and their response to MeJA and NaCl stress was tested by qRT-PCR analysis. By analyzing the enrichment of H3K4me3, H3K27me3, and H4K5ac in the promoter regions of two key sesquiterpene synthase genes, AsTPS13/18, we hypothesized that AsHMs play important roles in the synthesis of agarwood sesquiterpenes. We confirmed this hypothesis by conducting RNAi transgenic interference experiments. This study provided valuable information and important biological theories for studying epigenetic regulation in the formation of agarwood. Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) arise from incomplete combustion of oil, coal, and gasoline, with lipophilic properties facilitating their widespread distribution and persistence. Due to their biochemical attributes, PAHs can accumulate in animal tissues, potentially causing mutagenic and carcinogenic effects. Since the industrial revolution, PAH concentrations in the environment have risen, with lakes showing levels from 0.159 to 33,090 μg/kg sediment. Despite acute toxicity studies showing adverse effects on freshwater organisms, the long-term impacts and synergistic interactions with other pollutants remain largely unexplored. This study investigates the impact of phenanthrene (PHE), a prominent PAH found in aquatic environments, on Daphnia magna, a species of significant ecological importance in freshwater ecosystems globally, being both a sentinel species for chemical pollution and a keystone organism in freshwater aquatic ecosystems. Leveraging the dormancy of D. magna, which spans decades or even centuries, we exposed strains with diverse histories of chemical contaminant exposure to environmentally relevant concentrations of PHE. Initially, acute exposure experiments were conducted in accordance with OECD guidelines across 16 Daphnia strains, revealing substantial variation in acute toxic responses, with strains naïve to chemical pollutants showing the lowest toxicity. Utilizing the median effect concentration EC10 derived from acute exposures, we assessed the impacts of chronic PHE exposure on life history traits and ecological endpoints of the 16 strains. To elucidate how historical exposure to other environmental stressors may modulate the toxicity of PHE, temporal populations of D. magna resurrected from a lake with a well-documented century-spanning history of environmental impact were utilized. Our findings demonstrate that PHE exposure induces developmental failure, delays sexual maturation, and reduces adult size in Daphnia. Populations of Daphnia historically exposed to chemical stress exhibited significantly greater fitness impacts compared to naïve populations. The mechanisms of action for the platinum compounds cisplatin and oxaliplatin have yet to be fully elucidated, despite the worldwide use of these drugs. Recent studies suggest that the two compounds may be working through different mechanisms, with cisplatin inducing cell death via the DNA damage response (DDR) and oxaliplatin utilizing a nucleolar stress-based cell death pathway. While cisplatin-induced DDR has been subject to much research, the mechanisms for oxaliplatin's influence on the nucleolus are not well understood. Prior work has outlined structural parameters for Pt(II) derivatives capable of nucleolar stress induction. In this work, we gain insight into the nucleolar stress response induced by these Pt(II) derivatives by investigating potential correlations between this unique pathway and DDR. Key findings from this study indicate that Pt(II)-induced nucleolar stress occurs when DDR is inhibited and works independently of the ATM/ATR-dependent DDR pathway. We also determine that Pt(II)-induced stress may be linked to the G 1 cell cycle phase, as cisplatin can induce nucleolar stress when cell cycle inhibition occurs at the G 1 /S checkpoint. Finally, we compare Pt(II)-induced nucleolar stress with other small-molecule nucleolar stress-inducing compounds Actinomycin D, BMH-21, and CX-5461 and find that Pt(II) compounds cause irreversible nucleolar stress, whereas the reversibility of nucleolar stress induced by small-molecules varies. Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of dietary supplementation of arginine (ARG) or guanidinoacetic acid (GAA), with or without phenylalanine (PHE), on the ascites susceptibility in the cold-stressed broilers fed canola meal (CM)-based diet., Method: A total of 450 one-day-old male broiler chicks were randomly allocated to 30 floor pens with 6 replications for each of the 5 treatments. The dietary treatments were as follows: CM-based diet (control), CM-based diet + 2.57 g/kg ARG, CM-based diet + 1.8 g/kg GAA, CM-based diet + 2.57 g/kg ARG + 1.5 g/kg PHE and CM-based diet + 1.8 g/kg GAA + 1.5 g/kg PHE. The groups experienced cold stress induction starting at 32°C on day one, with gradual reductions to 15°C on days 21. The temperature was then held at 15°C for the remainder of the experiment., Results: The supplements ARG + PHE and GAA + PHE resulted in improved feed conversion ratios (FCR) when compared to the control group. In comparison with the control group, supplementation of ARG and ARG + PHE decreased the ascites mortality by increasing the plasma nitric oxide level (NO), blood O 2 partial pressure, blood O 2 saturation (SO 2 ), and decreasing the blood CO 2 partial pressure (PCO 2 ) and right ventricle to total ventricle (RV:TV) ratio. Supplementation of GAA and GAA + PHE also declined ascites mortality by reducing blood PCO 2 while increasing blood SO 2 and plasma NO levels. Although plasma corticosterone level and RV:TV ratio were similar between the GAA and control groups, adding GAA + PHE significantly reduced both compared to the control group., Conclusion: In summary, supplementing cold-stressed broiler chicken diets with 2.57 g/kg ARG may alleviate hypertension. Additionally, 1.8 g/kg GAA proves to be an effective substitute for dietary ARG in low-ARG diets, alleviating adverse effects from cold stress. Chromium (Cr) contamination in agricultural soils, largely due to industrial activities, poses a significant threat to plant growth and productivity. This study examines the effects of Cr stress at concentrations of 100 and 200 mg of K 2 Cr 2 O 7 per kg soil on rapeseed (Brassica napus) roots and evaluates the mitigating potential of biochar. Biochar, produced through both slow and fast pyrolysis and applied at 30 g per kg soil, was investigated for its ability to neutralize Cr toxicity. Our findings indicate that Cr stress significantly decreased the growth and physiological functions of rapeseed roots. However, biochar application improved soil pH, cation exchange capacity, and the uptake of essential nutrients such as nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, and magnesium. Additionally, biochar enhanced the production of osmotic regulators like glycine betaine and soluble proteins, as well as indole acetic acid, promoting better root growth and water uptake under Cr stress. Notably, biochar reduced Cr availability and absorption in rapeseed roots, leading to lower levels of stress-related hormones such as abscisic acid, salicylic acid, and jasmonic acid. Among the biochars tested, slow pyrolysis biochar was more effective than fast pyrolysis biochar in mitigating Cr toxicity. Excessive cadmium (Cd) content in soil poses serious hazard to the survival and development of various organisms. Potentilla sericea, characterized by strong resistance and high utility value, is an excellent choice for urban ecological greening. Plant MYB transcription factors can participate in respondind to a variety of abiotic stresses such as heavy metals and salinity. In this study, PsMYB62 was transformed into tobacco by leaf disc infestation to obtain PsMYB62 overexpressing tobacco lines, and its mechanism in response to Cd stress was further investigated. The results showed that with Cd treatment, PsMYB62 overexpressing tobacco exhibited significantly higher net photosynthetic rate, stomatal conductance, transpiration rate, intercellular CO 2 concentration, chlorophyll content, as well as enhanced activities of superoxide dismutase, peroxidase, catalase, and glutathione reductase enzymes, along with increased levels of reduced glutathione, proline, and soluble protein compared to the control. Conversely, levels of O 2 - and H 2 O 2 , and malondialdehyde were markedly lower than those in the control(P<0.05). Moreover, the aboveground Cd content was notably higher in the control than in the transgenic lines, whereas the control was much lower than the transgenic lines in the belowground fraction, with Cd subcellular distribution ratios ranking as follows: cell wall fraction > soluble fraction > organelle fraction (P<0.05). The expression of NtHMA3, NtYSL, NtPDR4 and NtPDR5B were much lower in transgenic lines compared to the control, while NtNAS3, NtSOD, and NtGSH2 exhibited significantly higher expression. With global climate change, the frequent occurrence of intense rainfall and aggravation of waterlogging disasters have severely threatened the plant growth and fruit quality of grapevines, which are commercially important fruit crops worldwide. There is accordingly an imperative to clarify the responses of grapevine to waterlogging and to propose appropriate remedial measures. Strigolactone (SL) is a phytohormone associated with plant abiotic stress tolerance, while, its function in plant responses to waterlogging stress remain undetermined. In this study, systematic analyses of the morphology, physiology, and transcriptome changes in grapevine leaves and roots under post-waterlogging and GR24 (a synthetic analog of SL) treatments were performed. Morphological and physiological changes in grapevines in response to post-waterlogging stress, including leaf wilting and yellowing, leaf senescence, photosynthesis inhibition, and increased anti-oxidative systems, could be alleviated by the application of GR24. Moreover, transcriptome analysis revealed that the primary gene functions induced by post-waterlogging stress changed over time; however, they were consistently associated with carbohydrate metabolism. The GR24-induced leaf genes were closely associated with carbohydrate metabolism, photosynthesis, antioxidant systems, and hormone signal transduction, which were considered vital aspects that were influenced by GR24 in grapevine to induce post-waterlogging tolerance. Concerning the roots, an enhancement of microtubules and cytoskeleton for cell construction in GR24 application was proposed to facilitate root system recovery after waterlogging. Plants often experience variations in light intensity, referred to as light stress, that negatively impact important aspects of plant growth and development, including photosynthesis and antioxidant system. The photosynthetic machinery is susceptible to these disturbances, especially photosystem II and its reaction centers. We aimed to evaluate the role of brassinosteriod in plants under both high and low light conditions by examining various physiological parameters such as photosynthetic efficiency, pigment levels, and enzymatic activity of various antioxidant enzymes in one month old tomato plants. We investigated various chlorophyll fluorescence parameters under low light (LL) and high light (HL) conditions and the associated gene expression related to photosynthesis, including plastocyanin, ferredoxin, and photosystem II oxygen-evolving enhancer protein 3 (PsbQ). Our results indicate that exogenous brassinosteroid application considerably increased tolerance to both high and low light stress in 4-week-old tomato as treated plants displayed enhanced photosynthesis, reduced oxidative damage, and increased antioxidant enzyme activity in comparison to control plants. Furthermore, brassinosteroid treatment enhanced the expression of genes associated with antioxidant pathways, which significantly contributed to the recovery of chlorophyll fluorescence parameters crucial for plant growth and development. Our results provide valuable insights into how brassinosteroid reduces light-induced stress in tomato plants.

Background: Punica granatum L., commonly known as pomegranate, is renowned for its health benefits, primarily associated with the consumption of its fruit and seeds. However, its non-edible parts, including leaves, have been used in traditional medicine as a remedy with anti-inflammatory and anti-diabetic properties. Considering the abundance of bioactive compounds, predominantly flavonols, flavones, and tannins P. granatum leaf (PGL) extract holds potential as health-promoting agent. Yet, its effect on longevity and healthspan remains largely unexplored., Purpose: Our study aims to explore the potential of PGL extract to enhance healthspan and ameliorate age-related frailty in Caenorhabditis elegans. Additionally, we seek to elucidate its effect on the molecular signaling networks associated with stress resistance and longevity., Methods: After characterizing the extract metabolite profile by NMR spectroscopy, phenotypic and stress analyses were performed. In order to establish the molecular mechanism of action, the involvement of signaling pathways key to longevity were investigated by means of real-time quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR) and the use of transgenic strains (MIR13, MAH240, LD1, and OH16024). In addition, the effect of PGL on metabolism and lipid accumulation, as well as mitochondrial homeostasis, was examined., Results: The PGL extract supplementation significantly enhanced stress resistance and extended the lifespan of C. elegans. Additionally, it improved locomotion, as well as metabolic and mitochondrial functions, indicating an overall improvement in health. The molecular mechanisms highlight the coordinated regulation of stress response, metabolic homeostasis, and longevity signaling pathways. Objective: This study aimed to investigate the potential reduction of cardiovascular stress response caused by suspension laryngoscopic surgery through the application of lidocaine spray on the larynx and trachea., Methods: A total of 68 patients scheduled for elective suspension laryngoscopic surgery were randomly assigned to either the lidocaine group (Group L, n = 34) or the control group (Group C, n = 33). In Group L, patients received a sprayed lidocaine dose of 2 mg/kg on the larynx and trachea after anesthesia induction, prior to intubation. In Group C, equal volumes of saline solution were administered. MAP and HR were recorded at various time points: before anesthesia (T0), 1-minute after intubation (T1), 1 and 3 min after suspension laryngoscopy (T2 and T3), at the end of the operation (T4), and at 1, 5, and 30 min after extubation (T5, T6, and T7). Arterial blood glucose, epinephrine, and norepinephrine levels were measured at T0, T2, T5, and T7. The occurrence of severe cough and sore throat at T6 and T7 after extubation was compared between the two groups., Results: At T0 and T1, there were no statistically significant differences in mean arterial pressures, heart rate, and blood catecholamine levels between the two groups. However, from T2 to T7, the blood pressure and heart rate in Group L were lower compared to Group C, with significant differences observed at T2‒T6 (p < 0.05). Group L also showed less elevation in blood glucose at T2, T5, and T7 (p < 0.05). The changes in epinephrine and norepinephrine levels between the two groups were statistically significant at T2 and T5 (p < 0.05)., Conclusions: Administering lidocaine spray on the larynx and trachea during intubation for suspension laryngoscopic surgery can effectively alleviate the stress response. Giving nanocurcumin, which functions as an anti-inflammatory and antioxidant, is expected to reduce cortisol levels which increase during pregnancy., Aim: This study aims to determine the effect of stress during pregnancy on pregnant mice, namely IL-6 expression and fetal body weight., Methods: This study used 25 mice that were given 5 treatment groups, K(-) with no treatment, K(+) with an induced disturbance of 135 dB for 40 minutes with a continuous pattern, P1, P2, and P3 were given a disturbance of 135 dB for 40 minutes. With a continuous pattern and nanocurcumin doses of 14 mg/kg BW, 21 mg/kgBW, and 24.5 mg/kgBW. IL-6 expression in placental organs was measured using immunohistochemistry and fetal body weight was weighed using a digital balance. Data were analyzed using the Kruskal Wallis test and continued with the Parwise Comparison test., Results: The results of analysis of IL-6 expression in the placenta showed no significant difference in the P3 group compared to the negative control group. The results of fetal weight analysis showed no significant difference in groups P2 and P3 with the negative control group., Conclusion: The conclusion of this study is the administration of nanocurcumin in group P3 has been proven to increase IL-6 to a level comparable to the negative control group ( p < 0.05). Aluminum toxicity poses a significant threat to plant growth, especially in acidic soils. Heavy metal ATPases (HMAs) are crucial for transporting heavy metal ions across plant cell membranes, yet their role in Al 3+ transport remains unexplored. This study identified eight HmHMA genes in the genome of Hydrangea macrophylla, categorizing them into two major clades based on phylogenetic relationships. These genes were found unevenly distributed across six chromosomes. Detailed analysis of their physicochemical properties, collinearity, and gene structure was conducted. RNA-seq and qRT-PCR analyses revealed that specific HmHMA genes, notably HmHMA2, were predominantly expressed in roots and flowers under Al 3+ stress, indicating their potential role in Al 3+ tolerance. HmHMA2 showed significant expression in roots, especially under Al 3+ stress conditions, and when expressed in yeast cells, it conferred resistance to aluminum and zinc but increased sensitivity to cadmium. Overexpression of HmHMA2 in hydrangea leaf discs significantly improved Al 3+ tolerance, reduced oxidative stress markers like hydrogen peroxide and malondialdehyde, and enhanced antioxidant enzyme activity such as SOD, POD and CAT compared to controls. Seashore paspalum (Paspalum vaginatum) is a warm-season and perennial turfgrass and is known for its cadmium (Cd)-stress tolerance. Here, a Phosphoproteomics analysis was performed to examine the key proteins relating to Cd tolerance in seashore paspalum. Fructose 1,6-biphosphate aldolase, PvFBA1, was identified for its phosphorylated state after exposure to Cd stress. Specifically, the phosphorylation of PvFBA1 was enhanced in several metabolic pathways, including pentose phosphate pathway (PPP), carbon fixation and biosynthesis of amino acids under Cd stress. By transforming PvFBA1 into Arabidopsis, the PvFBA1-OE plants exhibited longer roots, greater FBA activity and higher soluble sugar content than WT under 100 µM CdCl 2 treatment. By expressing the PvFBA1 in yeast, a serine 50 phosphorylation site was identified as functional site. By microscale thermophoresis experiment, we indicted that PvFBA1can bind Cd directly enhancing its phosphorylation level to alleviate the damage of Cd. Here, the mechanism of stress responses under the exposure of norfloxacin (NF) and drought (D) individually and in combination (DNF) were explored on rice (Oryza sativa) cultivar Hanyou73 through proteomics and metabolomic analysis. All treatments adversely affected chlorophyll fluorescence kinetics, antioxidant enzyme activities, rice grain composition and yield. The results showed that in DNF the antibiotic was accumulated 627% more than NF treatment in rice grains while in leaves there was no significant difference under both treatments. The proteomic revealed that differentially expressed identified proteins were involved in carbohydrate metabolism, amino acid metabolism, photosynthesis and mRNA binding. However, the metabolomics results showed that the abundance of metabolites related to RNA biosynthesis and amino acid metabolism were more affected. The disruptions caused in rice plant under DNF treatment become more severe, this makes it more susceptible than individual D and NF treatment. This study aimed to assess the in vitro and in vivo disinfectant potential of peracetic acid (PAA) (1 mg/L) and hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ) (20 mg/L) on the physicochemical and microbiological water quality parameters of fish aquaria, the microbial density of Nile tilapia muscular tissue, fish hepatic cortisol levels, and antioxidant biomarkers. In vitro, PAA and H 2 O 2 reduced A. hydrophila colony viability by 5 log units after 30 and 5 min of contact time, respectively. PAA and H 2 O 2 were added to aquaria water twice a week for the three-week experiment. Increased fish escape reflexes were observed only in the PAA group, which returned to normal within 10 min. No mortalities were reported in either the PAA or H 2 O 2 groups. An in vivo experimental challenge with a pathogenic strain of A. hydrophila revealed a 20% reduction in mortality in the PAA group, with no mortalities in the H 2 O 2 group. Cortisol levels and antioxidant markers were measured to assess the impact of PAA and H 2 O 2 on fish health. Cortisol levels in the PAA and H 2 O 2 groups were significantly higher than in the control group after disinfectant exposure, but they progressively returned to normal. A significant reduction in superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT) activity, along with considerably higher glutathione peroxidase (GPx) and malondialdehyde (MDA) enzymatic activity, was observed in the PAA and H 2 O 2 groups compared to the control group. A substantial increase in total antioxidant capacity (TAC) was recorded in the PAA group. Physicochemical analyses revealed reduced pH and increased dissolved oxygen levels in the PAA and H 2 O 2 groups. Microbiological analyses showed a significant reduction in bacterial density in water by 64% and 76% after 30 min of exposure to PAA and H 2 O 2 , respectively, with a non-significant increase in microbial count after bacterial challenge. Additionally, aerobic bacterial count, Aeromonas spp., and psychotropic bacterial count in fish muscle showed a significant reduction in the H 2 O 2 group compared to the PAA and control groups before and after infection. The study concludes that regular application of PAA and H 2 O 2 can temporarily reduce bacterial load in aquaria and fish muscle, regulate stress responses, and improve fish health by reducing A. hydrophila-induced infections and improving survival., (© 2024. Saccharina japonica is one of the most productive aquatic plants in the world, widely used in food, feed, medicine, and other industries. Predominantly inhabiting temperate marine environments in mid- to high-latitude regions of the Northern Hemisphere, the growth of S. japonica is significantly limited by high-temperature stress. Abscisic acid (ABA) plays an important role in plant growth and development and stress responses. However, the role of ABA on high-temperature stress tolerance in S. japonica still needs to be further elucidated. Here, we found that exogenous ABA significantly alleviated disease and decay in S. japonica under high-temperature stress while also increasing the relative growth rate, chlorophyll fluorescence parameters, photosynthetic pigment, and osmotic substance content. Meanwhile, exogenous ABA enhanced the activity of protective enzymes and up-regulated the transcript levels of antioxidant-related genes, thereby reducing oxidative damage. Most importantly, we observed a significant increase in ABA content and the transcript levels of key genes involved in ABA synthesis in S. japonica under high-temperature stress, which were further amplified by the addition of exogenous ABA. In conclusion, this study provides evidence that ABA can moderate the detrimental effects of high-temperature stress and provides a theoretical basis for the screening of S. japonica germplasm resources and the cultivation of new stress-resistant varieties.
